नाहं वृष्णिप्रवीरेण मधुभिश्चैव मातुल। विहीनां पृथिवीं द्रष्टुं शक्तश्चिरमिह प्रभो ॥१६-८-२॥

राजा च भीमसेनश्च सहदेवश्च पाण्डवः। नकुलो याज्ञसेनी च षडेकमनसो वयम् ॥१६-८-३॥
rājā ca bhīmasenaś ca sahadevaś ca pāṇḍavaḥ। nakulo yājñasenī ca ṣaḍ ekamanaso vayam ॥16-8-3॥

राज्ञः सङ्क्रमणे चापि कालोऽयं वर्तते ध्रुवम्। तमिमं विद्धि सम्प्राप्तं कालं कालविदां वर ॥१६-८-४॥
rājñaḥ saṅkramaṇe cāpi kālo'yaṁ vartate dhruvam. tamimaṁ viddhi samprāptaṁ kālaṁ kālavidāṁ vara ॥16-8-4॥

सर्वथा वृष्णिदारांस्तु बालवृद्धांस्तथैव च। नयिष्ये परिगृह्याहमिन्द्रप्रस्थमरिंदम ॥१६-८-५॥
sarvathā vṛṣṇidārāṃstu bālavṛddhāṃstathaiva ca। nayiṣye parigṛhyāhamindraprasthamariṃdama ॥16-8-5॥

इत्युक्त्वा दारुकमिदं वाक्यमाह धनञ्जयः। अमात्यान्वृष्णिवीराणां द्रष्टुमिच्छामि माचिरम् ॥१६-८-६॥

तमासनगतं तत्र सर्वाः प्रकृतयस्तथा। ब्राह्मणा नैगमाश्चैव परिवार्योपतस्थिरे ॥१६-८-८॥
tam āsanagatam tatra sarvāḥ prakṛtayaḥ tathā| brāhmaṇāḥ naigamāḥ ca eva parivārya upatastire ॥16-8-8॥

तान्दीनमनसः सर्वान्निभृतान्गतचेतसः। उवाचेदं वचः पार्थः स्वयं दीनतरस्तदा ॥१६-८-९॥
tān dīnamānasaḥ sarvān nibhṛtān gata-cetasaḥ। uvāca idaṃ vacaḥ pārthaḥ svayam dīnataraḥ tadā ॥16-8-9॥
[तान् (tān) - them; दीनमनसः (dīnamānasaḥ) - downcast in mind; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; निभृतान् (nibhṛtān) - modest; गतचेतसः (gata-cetasaḥ) - their minds gone; उवाच (uvāca) - said; इदं (idaṃ) - this; वचः (vacaḥ) - speech; पार्थः (pārthaḥ) - Pārtha (Arjuna); स्वयम् (svayam) - himself; दीनतरः (dīnataraḥ) - even more dejected; तदा (tadā) - at that time;]

Seeing them all, with downcast minds, modest and inattentive, Pārtha (Arjuna), himself even more dejected at that time, spoke these words. (16-8-9)
शक्रप्रस्थमहं नेष्ये वृष्ण्यन्धकजनं स्वयम्। इदं तु नगरं सर्वं समुद्रः प्लावयिष्यति ॥१६-८-१०॥
śakraprastham ahaṃ neṣye vṛṣṇy-andhaka-janaṃ svayam। idaṃ tu nagaraṃ sarvaṃ samudraḥ plāvayiṣyati ॥16-8-10॥
[शक्रप्रस्थम् (śakraprastham) - to Śakraprastha; अहम् (ahaṃ) - I; नेष्ये (neṣye) - shall lead; वृष्ण्यन्धकजनम् (vṛṣṇy-andhaka-janam) - the Vṛṣṇi and Andhaka people; स्वयम् (svayam) - myself; इदं (idaṃ) - this; तु (tu) - but; नगरेम् (nagaraṃ) - city; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; समुद्रः (samudraḥ) - the ocean; प्लावयिष्यति (plāvayiṣyati) - will flood;]
(To Śakraprastha I myself shall lead the Vṛṣṇi and Andhaka people. But this entire city the ocean will flood. (16-8-10))

सज्जीकुरुत यानानि रत्नानि विविधानि च। वज्रोऽयं भवतां राजा शक्रप्रस्थे भविष्यति ॥१६-८-११॥
sajjīkuruta yānāni ratnāni vividhāni ca। vajro'yaṃ bhavatāṃ rājā śakraprasthe bhaviṣyati॥16-8-11॥

सप्तमे दिवसे चैव रवौ विमल उद्गते। बहिर्वत्स्यामहे सर्वे सज्जीभवत माचिरम् ॥१६-८-१२॥
saptame divase caiva ravau vimala udgate। bahir vatsyāmahe sarve sajjībhavata māciram ॥16-8-12॥

śvobhūte'tha tataḥ śaurir-vasudevaḥ pratāpavān| yuktvātmānaṃ mahātejā jagāma gatim-uttamām ॥16-8-15॥

(When the next day had come, then thereafter the descendant of Shura, Vasudeva, powerful, having absorbed his self, of great splendor, he went the supreme path.)

प्रकीर्णमूर्धजाः सर्वा विमुक्ताभरणस्रजः। उरांसि पाणिभिर्घ्नन्त्यो व्यलपन्करुणं स्त्रियः ॥१६-८-१७॥
prakīrṇamūrdhajāḥ sarvā vimuktābharaṇasrajaḥ. urāṃsi pāṇibhir ghnantyo vyalapan karuṇaṃ striyaḥ ॥16-8-17॥

तं देवकी च भद्रा च रोहिणी मदिरा तथा। अन्वारोढुं व्यवसिता भर्तारं योषितां वराः ॥१६-८-१८॥
taṃ devakī ca bhadrā ca rohiṇī madirā tathā। anvāroḍhuṃ vyavasitā bhartāraṃ yoṣitāṃ varāḥ॥16-8-18॥

तमन्वयुस्तत्र तत्र दुःखशोकसमाहताः। द्वारकावासिनः पौराः सर्व एव नरर्षभ ॥१६-८-२०॥
tam anvayus tatra tatra duḥkha-śoka-samāhatāḥ। dvārakā-vāsinaḥ paurāḥ sarva eva nararṣabha ॥16-8-20॥

O best of men, the citizens, all the inhabitants of Dvārakā, afflicted by pain and sorrow, followed him here and there. (16-8-20)
तस्याश्वमेधिकं छत्रं दीप्यमानाश्च पावकाः। पुरस्तात्तस्य यानस्य याजकाश्च ततो ययुः ॥१६-८-२१॥
tasyāśvamedhikaṃ chatraṃ dīpyamānāś ca pāvakāḥ. purastāt tasya yānasya yājakāś ca tato yayuḥ॥16-8-21॥

His umbrella related to the horse-sacrifice and the shining fires, and in front of his chariot the priests went. (16-8-21)
अनुजग्मुश्च तं वीरं देव्यस्ता वै स्वलङ्कृताः। स्त्रीसहस्रैः परिवृता वधूभिश्च सहस्रशः ॥१६-८-२२॥
anujagmuś ca taṃ vīraṃ devyās tā vai svalakṣitāḥ। strī-sahasraiḥ parivṛtā vadhūbhiś ca sahasraśaḥ ॥16-8-22॥

(And followed him—the hero—the queens, they indeed splendidly adorned, surrounded by thousands of women and by brides in thousands.)
Splendidly adorned, the queens followed that hero, surrounded by thousands of women and brides in their thousands. (16-8-22)
यस्तु देशः प्रियस्तस्य जीवतोऽभून्महात्मनः। तत्रैनमुपसङ्कल्प्य पितृमेधं प्रचक्रिरे ॥१६-८-२३॥
yastu deśaḥ priyastasya jīvato'bhūnmahātmanaḥ। tatra enam upasaṅkalpya pitṛmedhaṃ pracakrire ॥16-8-23॥

(But the region which was dear to him while living, of the great-souled one, there him having prepared, the funeral rite they performed.)
But the place that was dear to him during his lifetime, there they prepared and performed his funeral rite for the great-souled one. (16-8-23)
तं चिताग्निगतं वीरं शूरपुत्रं वराङ्गनाः। ततोऽन्वारुरुहुः पत्न्यश्चतस्रः पतिलोकगाः ॥१६-८-२४॥
taṃ citāgnigataṃ vīraṃ śūraputraṃ varāṅganāḥ। tato'nvāruruhuḥ patnyaś catasraḥ patilokagāḥ॥16-8-24॥

The noble women, the four wives, ascended after him—the heroic son of Śūra—into the funeral fire, going to the world of their husband. (16-8-24)
तं वै चतसृभिः स्त्रीभिरन्वितं पाण्डुनन्दनः। अदाहयच्चन्दनैश्च गन्धैरुच्चावचैरपि ॥१६-८-२५॥
taṁ vai catasṛbhiḥ strībhiḥ anvitaṁ pāṇḍunandanaḥ। adāhayat candanaiś ca gandhair uccāvacair api ॥16-8-25॥

(Him indeed, with four women accompanied, the son of Pāṇḍu set fire (to) with sandalwoods and perfumes, various also.)
The son of Pāṇḍu set fire to him, accompanied by four women, using sandalwood and various perfumes. (16-8-25)
ततः प्रादुरभूच्छब्दः समिद्धस्य विभावसोः। सामगानां च निर्घोषो नराणां रुदतामपि ॥१६-८-२६॥
tataḥ prādurabhūcchabdaḥ samiddhasya vibhāvasoḥ। sāmagānāṃ ca nirghoṣo narāṇāṃ rudatāmapi॥16-8-26॥

(Then arose sound of the kindled fire; and the resounding of the Sāma songs, and the sound of the men also who were weeping.)
Then there arose the sound of the blazing fire, and the chant of the Sāma hymns, and also the wailing of the men. (16-8-26)
ततो वज्रप्रधानास्ते वृष्णिवीरकुमारकाः। सर्व एवोदकं चक्रुः स्त्रियश्चैव महात्मनः ॥१६-८-२७॥
tato vajrapradhānās te vṛṣṇivīra-kumārakāḥ। sarva eva udakaṃ cakruḥ striyaś caiva mahātmanaḥ॥16-8-27॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; वज्रप्रधानाः (vajrapradhānāḥ) - led by Vajra; chief among them being Vajra; ते (te) - they; वृष्णिवीरकुमारकाः (vṛṣṇivīra-kumārakāḥ) - the sons of the heroic men of the Vṛṣṇi (clan); सर्वे (sarve) - all; एव (eva) - indeed; उदकं (udakaṃ) - oblation of water; चक्रुः (cakruḥ) - they performed; स्त्रियः (striyaḥ) - the women; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - also; महात्मनः (mahātmanaḥ) - for the great-souled ones;]
(Then, Vajra-pradhāna, they, the sons of the heroic Vṛṣṇis, all indeed performed water oblation; and the women also for the great-souled ones.)
Then, led by Vajra, all the young sons of the heroic Vṛṣṇi clan, together with the women, performed the water oblation for the great-souled ones. (16-8-27)
अलुप्तधर्मस्तं धर्मं कारयित्वा स फल्गुनः। जगाम वृष्णयो यत्र विनष्टा भरतर्षभ ॥१६-८-२८॥
aluptadharmas taṃ dharmaṃ kārayitvā sa phalgunaḥ। jagāma vṛṣṇayo yatra vinaṣṭā bharatarṣabha ॥16-8-28॥
[अलुप्तधर्मः (aluptadharmaḥ) - one whose dharma is not lost; तं (taṃ) - that; धर्मं (dharmaṃ) - dharma; कारयित्वा (kārayitvā) - having caused to be performed; स (sa) - he; फल्गुनः (phalgunaḥ) - Phalguna (Arjuna); जगाम (jagāma) - went; वृष्णयः (vṛṣṇayaḥ) - the Vṛṣṇis; यत्र (yatra) - where; विनष्टाः (vinaṣṭāḥ) - destroyed; भरतर्षभ (bharatarṣabha) - O bull of the Bharatas;]
(One whose dharma is not lost, having caused that dharma to be performed, he, Phalguna, went where the Vṛṣṇis were destroyed, O bull of the Bharatas.)
Phalguna, whose dharma was uncorrupted, having ensured that righteous duty was performed, went to where the Vṛṣṇis were destroyed, O best of the Bharatas. (16-8-28)
स तान्दृष्ट्वा निपतितान्कदने भृशदुःखितः। बभूवातीव कौरव्यः प्राप्तकालं चकार च ॥१६-८-२९॥
sa tān dṛṣṭvā nipatitān kadane bhṛśaduḥkhitaḥ। babhūvāṭīva kauravyaḥ prāptakālaṃ cakāra ca ॥16-8-29॥
[स (sa) - he; तान् (tān) - them; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; निपतितान् (nipatitān) - fallen down; कदने (kadane) - in the slaughter; भृशदुःखितः (bhṛśaduḥkhitaḥ) - greatly afflicted with pain; बभूव (babhūva) - became; अतीव (atīva) - exceedingly; कौरव्यः (kauravyaḥ) - the descendant of Kuru; प्राप्तकालम् (prāptakālam) - the suitable time; चकार (cakāra) - he did; च (ca) - and;]
(He, having seen them fallen down in the slaughter, greatly afflicted with pain, became exceedingly the Kaurava; the suitable time he did and.)
Having seen them fallen in the battle, the Kaurava became exceedingly afflicted with pain and acted at the proper time. (16-8-29)
यथाप्रधानतश्चैव चक्रे सर्वाः क्रियास्तदा। ये हता ब्रह्मशापेन मुसलैरेरकोद्भवैः ॥१६-८-३०॥
yathā-pradhānatāś-caiva cakre sarvāḥ kriyās-tadā। ye hatā brahma-śāpena musalaiḥ erakodbhavaiḥ॥ 16-8-30॥
[यथा (yathā) - as; in accordance; प्रधानतः (pradhānatāḥ) - priority; accordance with rank; in order of importance; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; certainly; चक्रे (cakre) - performed; did; सर्वाः (sarvāḥ) - all; क्रियाः (kriyāḥ) - acts; rites; ceremonies; तदा (tadā) - then; at that time; ये (ye) - those who; हता (hatāḥ) - were slain; ब्रह्मशापेन (brahma-śāpena) - by the curse of Brahma; मुसलैः (musalaiḥ) - with clubs; एरकोद्भवैः (erakodbhavaiḥ) - originating from eraka grass; born from 'eraka' (reed) plant;]
(As in accordance with rank, and indeed, he performed all the rites at that time—those who were slain by the curse of Brahma, with clubs born from eraka grass.)
He performed all the rites at that time for those who were killed by the curse of Brahma, with clubs that had sprung from the eraka grass. (16-8-30)
ततः शरीरे रामस्य वासुदेवस्य चोभयोः। अन्विष्य दाहयामास पुरुषैराप्तकारिभिः ॥१६-८-३१॥
tataḥ śarīre rāmasya vāsudevasya cobhayoḥ। anviṣya dāhayāmāsa puruṣair āptakāribhiḥ॥16-8-31॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; शरीरे (śarīre) - bodies; रामस्य (rāmasya) - of Rāma; वासुदेवस्य (vāsudevasya) - of Vāsudeva; च (ca) - and; उभयोः (ubhayoḥ) - of both; अन्विष्य (anviṣya) - having searched out; दाहयामास (dāhayāmāsa) - caused to be burned; पुरुषैः (puruṣaiḥ) - by men; आप्तकारिभिः (āptakāribhiḥ) - by those who accomplish what is entrusted;]
(Then the bodies of Rāma and of Vāsudeva, of both, having searched out, caused to be burned by men who accomplish entrusted tasks.)
Then, after searching out the bodies of both Rāma and Vāsudeva, men who fulfilled their duties caused them to be cremated. (16-8-31)
स तेषां विधिवत्कृत्वा प्रेतकार्याणि पाण्डवः। सप्तमे दिवसे प्रायाद्रथमारुह्य सत्वरः ॥ अश्वयुक्तै रथैश्चापि गोखरोष्ट्रयुतैरपि ॥१६-८-३२॥
sa teṣāṃ vidhivat kṛtvā pretakāryāṇi pāṇḍavaḥ। saptame divase prāyād ratham āruhya satvaraḥ॥ aśvayuktai rathaiś cāpi gokharoṣṭrayutair api॥16-8-32॥
[स (sa) - he; तेषां (teṣām) - of them; विधिवत् (vidhivat) - according to rule; कृत्वा (kṛtvā) - having performed; प्रेतकार्याणि (pretakāryāṇi) - rites for the deceased; पाण्डवः (pāṇḍavaḥ) - the Pāṇḍava; सप्तमे (saptame) - on the seventh; दिवसे (divase) - day; प्रायात् (prāyāt) - departed; रथम् (ratham) - chariot; आरुह्य (āruhya) - having mounted; सत्वरः (satvaraḥ) - quickly; अश्वयुक्तैः (aśvayuktaiḥ) - with horse-yoked; रथैः (rathaiḥ) - by chariots; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; गोकरोष्ट्रयुक्तैः (gokharoṣṭrayuktaiḥ) - with cow, donkey, and camel-yoked; अपि (api) - also;]
(He, of them, according to rule, having performed the rites for the deceased, the Pāṇḍava, on the seventh day, departed, having mounted the chariot quickly; with horse-yoked chariots and also with cow, donkey, and camel-yoked [vehicles] also.)
The Pāṇḍava, having performed the funeral rites for them according to the rule, departed on the seventh day, quickly mounting the chariot; with horse-yoked chariots, and also with vehicles yoked with cows, donkeys, and camels. (16-8-32)
स्त्रियस्ता वृष्णिवीराणां रुदत्यः शोककर्शिताः। अनुजग्मुर्महात्मानं पाण्डुपुत्रं धनञ्जयम् ॥१६-८-३३॥
striyastā vṛṣṇivīrāṇāṃ rudatyaḥ śokakarśitāḥ। anujagmurmahātmānaṃ pāṇḍuputraṃ dhanañjayam ॥16-8-33॥

भृत्यास्त्वन्धकवृष्णीनां सादिनो रथिनश्च ये। वीरहीनं वृद्धबालं पौरजानपदास्तथा ॥ ययुस्ते परिवार्याथ कलत्रं पार्थशासनात् ॥१६-८-३४॥
bhṛtyās tv andhakavṛṣṇīnām sārdino rathinaś ca ye. vīrahīnaṃ vṛddhabālaṃ paura-jānapadās tathā ॥ yayus te parivāryātha kalatraṃ pārthaśāsanāt ॥16-8-34॥
[भृत्याः (bhṛtyāḥ) - servants; तु (tu) - but; अन्धकवृष्णीनां (andhakavṛṣṇīnām) - of the Andhakas and Vṛṣṇis; सादिनः (sārdinaḥ) - those with horses; रथिनः (rathinaḥ) - charioteers; च (ca) - and; ये (ye) - who; वीरहीनं (vīrahīnam) - bereft of warriors; वृद्धबालं (vṛddhabālam) - the old and children; पौर (paura) - citizens; जानपदाः (jānapadāḥ) - countryfolk; तथा (tathā) - and so also; ययुः (yayuḥ) - set out; ते (te) - they; परिवार्य (parivārya) - surrounding; अथ (atha) - then; कलत्रं (kalatraṃ) - wives; पार्थशासनात् (pārthaśāsanāt) - by the command of Pārtha (Arjuna);]
(Servants but of the Andhakas and Vṛṣṇis, those with horses, charioteers and those who; bereft of warriors, the old and children, citizens, and countryfolk also; they set out, surrounding then the wives, by the command of Pārtha.)
But the servants of the Andhakas and Vṛṣṇis, the horsemen and charioteers, and those without warriors, the old and children, the townsmen and countryfolk also—these, then, surrounded the women and departed at the command of Pārtha (Arjuna). (16-8-34)
कुञ्जरैश्च गजारोहा ययुः शैलनिभैस्तथा। सपादरक्षैः संयुक्ताः सोत्तरायुधिका ययुः ॥१६-८-३५॥
kuñjaraiś ca gajārohā yayuḥ śailanibhaiḥ tathā। sapādarakṣaiḥ saṁyuktāḥ sottarāyudhikā yayuḥ ॥16-8-35॥
[कुञ्जरैः (kuñjaraiḥ) - with elephants; च (ca) - and; गजारोहा (gajārohā) - elephant riders; ययुः (yayuḥ) - they went; शैलनिभैः (śailanibhaiḥ) - mountain-like; तथा (tathā) - thus; सपादरक्षैः (sapādarakṣaiḥ) - with foot soldiers; संयुक्ताः (saṁyuktāḥ) - joined; स (sa) - with; उत्तरायुधिका (uttarāyudhikā) - those bearing excellent weapons; ययुः (yayuḥ) - they went;]
(And with elephants, the elephant riders went, thus with mountain-like (ones). Together with foot soldiers, joined with those bearing excellent weapons, they went.)
The elephant riders mounted on elephants, which resembled mountains, went forth; together with foot soldiers and those equipped with excellent weapons, they advanced. (16-8-35)
पुत्राश्चान्धकवृष्णीनां सर्वे पार्थमनुव्रताः। ब्राह्मणाः क्षत्रिया वैश्याः शूद्राश्चैव महाधनाः ॥१६-८-३६॥
putrāś cāndhaka-vṛṣṇīnām sarve pārtha-manuvratāḥ। brāhmaṇāḥ kṣatriyā vaiśyāḥ śūdrāś caiva mahādhanāḥ॥16-8-36॥

(Sons and of the Andhakas and Vṛṣṇis, all devoted to Pārtha; Brāhmaṇas, Kṣatriyas, Vaiśyas, and Śūdras indeed, greatly wealthy.)
All the sons of the Andhakas and Vṛṣṇis were devoted to Pārtha; and the Brāhmaṇas, Kṣatriyas, Vaiśyas, and Śūdras also were greatly wealthy. (16-8-36)
दश षट्च सहस्राणि वासुदेवावरोधनम्। पुरस्कृत्य ययुर्वज्रं पौत्रं कृष्णस्य धीमतः ॥१६-८-३७॥
daśa ṣaṭ ca sahasrāṇi vāsudevāvarodhanam। puraskṛtya yayur vajraṃ pautraṃ kṛṣṇasya dhīmataḥ ॥16-8-37॥

(Ten and six thousands of the womenfolk of Vāsudeva, placing at the front Vajra, the grandson of wise Kṛṣṇa, went.)
Sixteen thousand women of Vāsudeva, having placed at the front Vajra—the grandson of wise Kṛṣṇa—departed. (16-8-37)
बहूनि च सहस्राणि प्रयुतान्यर्बुदानि च। भोजवृष्ण्यन्धकस्त्रीणां हतनाथानि निर्ययुः ॥१६-८-३८॥
bahūni ca sahasrāṇi prayutāni arbūdāni ca। bhoja-vṛṣṇy-andhaka-strīṇāṃ hata-nāthāni niryayuḥ ॥16-8-38॥

(Many and thousands, tens of millions, and hundreds of millions, of the women of the Bhojas, Vṛṣṇis, and Andhakas whose protectors were killed, went forth.)
Countless (many thousands, tens and hundreds of millions) of the women of the Bhoja, Vṛṣṇi, and Andhaka clans, whose protectors had been killed, departed. (16-8-38)
तत्सागरसमप्रख्यं वृष्णिचक्रं महर्द्धिमत्। उवाह रथिनां श्रेष्ठः पार्थः परपुरञ्जयः ॥१६-८-३९॥
tatsāgarasamaprakhyaṃ vṛṣṇicakraṃ maharddhimat| uvāha rathināṃ śreṣṭhaḥ pārthaḥ parapurañjayaḥ ||16-8-39||
[तत् (tat) - that; सागरसमप्रख्यम् (sāgara-sama-prakhyam) - having the appearance like the ocean; वृष्णिचक्रम् (vṛṣṇi-cakram) - Vṛṣṇi's chariot; महार्द्धिमत् (mahā-ṛddhimat) - greatly resplendent; उवाह (uvāha) - drove; रथिनाम् (rathinām) - of charioteers; श्रेष्ठः (śreṣṭhaḥ) - the foremost; पार्थः (pārthaḥ) - Pārtha (Arjuna); परपुरञ्जयः (para-purañjayaḥ) - conqueror of foreign cities;]
(That, with the appearance like the ocean, Vṛṣṇi's chariot, greatly resplendent, drove the foremost of charioteers, Pārtha, the conqueror of enemy cities.)
That greatly resplendent Vṛṣṇi chariot, appearing like the ocean, was driven by Arjuna, the foremost charioteer and conqueror of enemy cities. (16-8-39)
निर्याते तु जने तस्मिन्सागरो मकरालयः। द्वारकां रत्नसम्पूर्णां जलेनाप्लावयत्तदा ॥१६-८-४०॥
niryāte tu jane tasmin sāgaro makarālayaḥ। dvārakāṃ ratnasampūrṇāṃ jalenāplāvayattadā॥16-8-40॥
[निर्याते (niryāte) - having gone out; (from niḥ-√yā) ; तु (tu) - but; जने (jane) - people; तस्मिन् (tasmin) - in that; सागरः (sāgaraḥ) - ocean; मकरालयः (makarālayaḥ) - abode of makara (crocodiles or sea-creatures); द्वारकाम् (dvārakām) - Dvārakā (proper noun); रत्नसम्पूर्णाम् (ratnasampūrṇām) - filled with jewels; जलेन (jalena) - with water; अप्लावयत् (aplāvayat) - inundated, flooded; तदा (tadā) - then;]
(Having gone out but people in that, the ocean, abode of makara, Dvārakā filled with jewels, with water, inundated then.)
But when the people had gone out from there, then the ocean, abode of makaras, flooded Dvārakā, which was filled with jewels, with water. (16-8-40)
तदद्भुतमभिप्रेक्ष्य द्वारकावासिनो जनाः। तूर्णात्तूर्णतरं जग्मुरहो दैवमिति ब्रुवन् ॥१६-८-४१॥
tad adbhutam abhiprekṣya dvārakā-vāsino janāḥ। tūrṇāt tūrṇataraṃ jagmur aho daivam iti bruvan ॥16-8-41॥
[तत् (tad) - that; अद्भुतम् (adbhutam) - wonderful (thing); अभिप्रेक्ष्य (abhiprekṣya) - having seen; द्वारका-वासिनः (dvārakā-vāsinaḥ) - the Dvārakā-inhabitants; जनाः (janāḥ) - people; तूर्णात् (tūrṇāt) - quickly; तूर्णतरम् (tūrṇataram) - even more quickly; जग्मुः (jagmuh) - went; अहो (aho) - oh!; दैवम् (daivam) - destiny; इति (iti) - thus; ब्रुवन् (bruvan) - saying;]
(That wonderful (thing), having seen, the Dvārakā-inhabitants people quickly even more quickly went, "Oh! Destiny!" thus saying.)
Having seen that wonderful event, the people dwelling in Dvārakā went even more quickly, exclaiming, "Oh! Destiny!" (16-8-41)
काननेषु च रम्येषु पर्वतेषु नदीषु च। निवसन्नानयामास वृष्णिदारान्धनञ्जयः ॥१६-८-४२॥
kānaneṣu ca ramyeṣu parvateṣu nadīṣu ca। nivasannānayāmāsa vṛṣṇidārāndhanañjayaḥ॥16-8-42॥
[काननेषु (kānaneṣu) - in the forests; च (ca) - and; रम्येषु (ramyeṣu) - in the delightful (places); पर्वतेषु (parvateṣu) - in the mountains; नदीषु (nadīṣu) - in the rivers; च (ca) - and; निवसन् (nivasan) - dwelling; आनयामास (ānayāmāsa) - he led; वृष्णिदारान् (vṛṣṇidārān) - the wives of the Vṛṣṇis; धनञ्जयः (dhanañjayaḥ) - Dhanañjaya (Arjuna);]
(In the forests and in the delightful (places), in the mountains and in the rivers, dwelling, Dhanañjaya led the wives of the Vṛṣṇis.)
Dhanañjaya (Arjuna), dwelling in forests, delightful places, mountains, and along rivers, led the wives of the Vṛṣṇis. (16-8-42)
स पञ्चनदमासाद्य धीमानतिसमृद्धिमत्। देशे गोपशुधान्याढ्ये निवासमकरोत्प्रभुः ॥१६-८-४३॥
sa pañcanadam āsādya dhīmān ati-samṛddhimat। deśe gopa-śu-dhānya-āḍhye nivāsam akarot prabhuḥ ॥16-8-43॥
[स (sa) - he; पञ्चनदम् (pañcanadam) - Pañcanada (name of a place); आसाद्य (āsādya) - having reached; धीमान् (dhīmān) - intelligent; अतिसमृद्धिमत् (ati-samṛddhimat) - endowed with great prosperity; देशे (deśe) - in the country; गोप-शु-धान्य-आढ्ये (gopa-śu-dhānya-āḍhye) - abounding in cowherds, cattle, and grain; निवासम् (nivāsam) - dwelling; अकरोत् (akarot) - made; प्रभुः (prabhuḥ) - the Lord;]
(He having reached Pañcanada—intelligent, endowed with great prosperity—in the country abounding in cowherds, cattle, and grain, the Lord made his dwelling.)
Having reached Pañcanada, the wise and exceedingly prosperous Lord made his dwelling in a land rich in cowherds, cattle, and grain. (16-8-43)
ततो लोभः समभवद्दस्यूनां निहतेश्वराः। दृष्ट्वा स्त्रियो नीयमानाः पार्थेनैकेन भारत ॥१६-८-४४॥
tato lobhaḥ samabhavad dasyūnāṃ nihateśvarāḥ. dṛṣṭvā striyo nīyamānāḥ pārthenāikena bhārata ॥16-8-44॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; लोभः (lobhaḥ) - greed; समभवत् (samabhavat) - arose; दस्यूनां (dasyūnām) - of the robbers; निहतेश्वराः (nihateśvarāḥ) - whose leaders had been slain; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; स्त्रियः (striyaḥ) - women; नीयमानाः (nīyamānāḥ) - being led away; पार्थेन (pārthena) - by Pārtha (Arjuna); एकेन (ekena) - alone; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata;]
(Then greed arose among the robbers, whose leaders had been slain, having seen the women being led away by Pārtha alone, O Bhārata.)
Then, O Bhārata, seeing the women being led away by Pārtha (Arjuna) alone, greed arose among the robbers whose leaders had been slain. (16-8-44)
ततस्ते पापकर्माणो लोभोपहतचेतसः। आभीरा मन्त्रयामासुः समेत्याशुभदर्शनाः ॥१६-८-४५॥
tataste pāpakarmāṇo lobhopahatacetasaḥ। ābhīrā mantrayāmāsuḥ sametyāśubhadarśanāḥ ॥16-8-45॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; ते (te) - they; पापकर्माणः (pāpakarmāṇaḥ) - of evil actions; लोभोपहतचेतसः (lobhopahatacetasaḥ) - whose minds were overcome by greed; आभीराः (ābhīrāḥ) - the Ābhīras; मन्त्रयामासुः (mantrayāmāsuḥ) - counseled; समेत्य (sametya) - having assembled; अशुभदर्शनाः (aśubhadarśanāḥ) - having inauspicious sight;]
(Then they of evil actions, whose minds were overcome by greed, the Ābhīras, counseled, having assembled, having inauspicious sight.)
Then the Ābhīras, whose minds were overcome by greed and who performed evil deeds, gathered together and held counsel, being of inauspicious appearance. (16-8-45)
अयमेकोऽर्जुनो योद्धा वृद्धबालं हतेश्वरम्। नयत्यस्मानतिक्रम्य योधाश्चेमे हतौजसः ॥१६-८-४६॥
ayam-eko'juno yoddhā vṛddha-bālaṃ hateśvaram। nayatyasmānatikramya yodhāś-ceme hataujasaḥ ॥16-8-46॥
[अयम् (ayam) - this; एकः (ekaḥ) - one; single; अर्जुनः (arjunaḥ) - Arjuna; योद्धा (yoddhā) - warrior; वृद्धबालम् (vṛddha-bālam) - old and young; हतेश्वरम् (hateśvaram) - with the lords killed; (i.e., whose leaders are slain); नयति (nayati) - leads; brings; अस्मान् (asmān) - us; अतिक्रम्य (atikramya) - having surpassed; overstepping; योधाः (yodhāḥ) - warriors; च (ca) - and; इमे (ime) - these; हतौजसः (hataujasaḥ) - whose strength is destroyed; (of slain vigor);]
(This one Arjuna, the warrior, having old and young whose leaders are slain, having surpassed, leads us; and these warriors here (are) of destroyed strength.)
This Arjuna alone, the warrior, having surpassed us, leads both old and young whose leaders have been slain; and these remaining warriors here are without strength. (16-8-46)
ततो यष्टिप्रहरणा दस्यवस्ते सहस्रशः। अभ्यधावन्त वृष्णीनां तं जनं लोप्त्रहारिणः ॥१६-८-४७॥
tato yaṣṭipraharaṇā dasyavaste sahasraśaḥ। abhyadhāvanta vṛṣṇīnāṃ taṃ janaṃ loptrahāriṇaḥ॥16-8-47॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; after that; यष्टि-प्रहरणाः (yaṣṭi-praharaṇāḥ) - rod-armed; bearing clubs; दस्यवः (dasyavaḥ) - robbers; marauders; ते (te) - they; सहस्रशः (sahasraśaḥ) - in thousands; by thousands; अभ्यधावन्त (abhyadhāvanta) - ran towards; rushed; वृष्णीनाम् (vṛṣṇīnām) - of the Vṛṣṇis; तम् (tam) - that; जनम् (janam) - crowd; people; लोप्त्र-हारिणः (loptra-hāriṇaḥ) - bearing hoes; holding agricultural tools;]
(Then rod-armed robbers, in thousands, they rushed at the Vṛṣṇis’ that crowd, bearing hoes.)
Then thousands of rod-armed robbers, bearing hoes, rushed toward that crowd of the Vṛṣṇis. (16-8-47)
महता सिंहनादेन द्रावयन्तः पृथग्जनम्। अभिपेतुर्धनार्थं ते कालपर्यायचोदिताः ॥१६-८-४८॥
mahatā siṃhanādena drāvayantaḥ pṛthagjanam। abhipetur dhanārthaṃ te kālaparyāyacoditāḥ॥16-8-48॥
[महता (mahatā) - with great (by great; by powerful); सिंहनादेन (siṃhanādena) - with lion's roar; by the roaring of a lion; द्रावयन्तः (drāvayantaḥ) - driving away; causing to flee; पृथग्जनम् (pṛthagjanam) - separate people; other people; अभिपेतुः (abhipetūḥ) - attacked; rushed upon; धनार्थं (dhanārtham) - for the sake of wealth; ते (te) - they; कालपर्यायचोदिताः (kālaparyāyacoditāḥ) - urged on by the succession of time; prompted by the course of time;]
(With a great lion's roar, driving away other people, they attacked for the sake of wealth, urged on by the succession of time.)
With a great lion's roar, driving away others, they attacked for the sake of wealth, being prompted by the progression of time. (16-8-48)
ततो निवृत्तः कौन्तेयः सहसा सपदानुगः। उवाच तान्महाबाहुरर्जुनः प्रहसन्निव ॥१६-८-४९॥
tato nivṛttaḥ kaunteyaḥ sahasā sapadānugaḥ। uvāca tān mahābāhur arjunaḥ prahasann iva ॥16-8-49॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; निवृत्तः (nivṛttaḥ) - turned back; कौन्तेयः (kaunteyaḥ) - the son of Kuntī; सहसा (sahasā) - suddenly; सपदानुगः (sapadānugaḥ) - with attendants; उवाच (uvāca) - said; तान् (tān) - to them; महाबाहुः (mahābāhuḥ) - mighty-armed; अर्जुनः (arjunaḥ) - Arjuna; प्रहसन्निव (prahasann iva) - as if smiling;]
(Then turned back the son of Kuntī, suddenly with attendants. Mighty-armed Arjuna said to them as if smiling.)
Then, the son of Kuntī, suddenly turning back with his attendants, mighty-armed Arjuna, as if smiling, spoke to them. (16-8-49)
निवर्तध्वमधर्मज्ञा यदि स्थ न मुमूर्षवः। नेदानीं शरनिर्भिन्नाः शोचध्वं निहता मया ॥१६-८-५०॥
nivartadhvam adharmajñā yadi stha na mumūrṣavaḥ। nedānīṁ śaranirbhinnaāḥ śocadhvaṁ nihatā mayā॥16-8-50॥
[निवर्तध्वम् (nivartadhvam) - turn back; (2nd pl. imperative); अधर्मज्ञाः (adharmajñāḥ) - knowers of unrighteousness; (vocative plural); यदि (yadi) - if; (particle); स्थ (stha) - you are; (2nd pl. present); न (na) - not; (particle); मुमूर्षवः (mumūrṣavaḥ) - desirous of dying; (nominative plural); न (na) - not; (particle); इदानीम् (idānīm) - now; (adverb); शरनिर्भिन्नाः (śaranirbhinnaāḥ) - pierced (nirbhinnaāḥ) by arrows (śara); (nominative plural); शोचध्वम् (śocadhvam) - grieve; (2nd pl. imperative); निहताः (nihatāḥ) - killed; (nominative plural); मया (mayā) - by me; (instrumental singular);]
(Turn back, O knowers of unrighteousness, if you are not desirous of dying; do not now, pierced by arrows, grieve, (having been) killed by me.)
Turn back, you who know unrighteousness, if you do not wish to die; do not grieve now, having been killed and pierced by my arrows. (16-8-50)
तथोक्तास्तेन वीरेण कदर्थीकृत्य तद्वचः। अभिपेतुर्जनं मूढा वार्यमाणाः पुनः पुनः ॥१६-८-५१॥
tathokta-stena vīreṇa kadarthīkṛtya tad-vacaḥ. abhipetur janaṃ mūḍhā vāryamāṇāḥ punaḥ punaḥ ॥16-8-51॥
[तथा उक्ताः (tathā uktāḥ) - thus addressed; तेन (tena) - by him; वीरेण (vīreṇa) - by the hero; कदर्थीकृत्य (kadarthīkṛtya) - disregarding; तद् वचः (tad vacaḥ) - his words; अभिपेतुः (abhipetuḥ) - they approached; जनं (janaṃ) - the people; मूढाः (mūḍhāḥ) - deluded; वार्यमाणाः (vāryamāṇāḥ) - being checked; पुनः पुनः (punaḥ punaḥ) - again and again;]
(Thus addressed by him, by the hero, having disregarded his words, deluded (people) being checked again and again, approached the people.)
Though thus addressed by the hero and repeatedly checked, the deluded ones disregarded his words and again and again approached the people. (16-8-51)
ततोऽर्जुनो धनुर्दिव्यं गाण्डीवमजरं महत्। आरोपयितुमारेभे यत्नादिव कथञ्चन ॥१६-८-५२॥
tato 'rjuno dhanur divyaṁ gāṇḍīvam ajaraṁ mahat। āropayitum ārebhe yatnād iva kathaṁcana ॥16-8-52॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; अर्जुनः (arjunaḥ) - Arjuna; धनुः (dhanuḥ) - bow; दिव्यं (divyam) - divine; गाण्डीवम् (gāṇḍīvam) - Gāṇḍīva; अजरं (ajaram) - undecaying; महत् (mahat) - great; आरोपयितुम् (āropayitum) - to string (the bow); आरेभे (ārebhe) - he undertook; यत्नात् (yatnāt) - with effort; इव (iva) - as if; कथञ्चन (kathaṁcana) - with difficulty;]
(Then Arjuna, the bow divine Gāṇḍīva undecaying great, to string (the bow), undertook with effort, as if with difficulty.)
Then Arjuna endeavored with great effort, as if with difficulty, to string the mighty, undecaying divine bow, Gāṇḍīva. (16-8-52)
चकार सज्यं कृच्छ्रेण सम्भ्रमे तुमुले सति। चिन्तयामास चास्त्राणि न च सस्मार तान्यपि ॥१६-८-५३॥
cakāra sajyaṃ kṛcchreṇa sambhrame tumule sati। cintayāmāsa cāstrāṇi na ca sasmāra tānyapi॥16-8-53॥
[चकार (cakāra) - he did; (from √kṛ, to do); सज्यं (sajyaṃ) - readying (the bow); कृच्छ्रेण (kṛcchreṇa) - with difficulty; सम्भ्रमे (sambhrame) - in confusion; तुमुले (tumule) - in tumult; सति (sati) - when prevailing; चिन्तयामास (cintayāmāsa) - he pondered; (from √cint, to think); च (ca) - and; अस्त्राणि (astrāṇi) - the missiles; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; सस्मार (sasmāra) - he remembered; तानि (tāni) - those; अपि (api) - even;]
(He did readying (the bow) with difficulty, in confusion, when tumult was prevailing. He pondered the missiles and did not remember even those.)
With difficulty, in the midst of confusion and tumult, he made the bow ready. He thought about the missiles but could not remember even those. (16-8-53)
वैकृत्यं तन्महद्दृष्ट्वा भुजवीर्ये तथा युधि। दिव्यानां च महास्त्राणां विनाशाद्व्रीडितोऽभवत् ॥१६-८-५४॥
vaikṛtyaṃ tan-mahad-dṛṣṭvā bhuja-vīrye tathā yudhi। divyānāṃ ca mahāstrāṇāṃ vināśād vrīḍito ’bhavat॥16-8-54॥
[वैकृत्यं (vaikṛtyam) - distortion; तत् (tat) - that; महत् (mahat) - great; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; भुजवीर्ये (bhuja-vīrye) - in arm might; तथा (tathā) - also; युधि (yudhi) - in battle; दिव्यानां (divyānām) - of divine; च (ca) - and; महास्त्राणां (mahāstrāṇām) - of great weapons; विनाशात् (vināśāt) - from destruction; व्रीडितः (vrīḍitaḥ) - ashamed; अभवत् (abhavat) - became;]
(Having seen that great distortion in arm might also in battle, and from the destruction of the divine great weapons, he became ashamed.)
When he saw that great distortion of strength in his arms in battle, and also the destruction of the divine great weapons, he became ashamed. (16-8-54)
वृष्णियोधाश्च ते सर्वे गजाश्वरथयायिनः। न शेकुरावर्तयितुं ह्रियमाणं च तं जनम् ॥१६-८-५५॥
vṛṣṇiyodhāś ca te sarve gajāśvarathayāyinaḥ. na śekur āvartayituṁ hriyamāṇaṁ ca taṁ janam ॥16-8-55॥
[वृष्णियोधाः (vṛṣṇiyodhāḥ) - warriors of the Vṛṣṇis; च (ca) - and; ते (te) - those; सर्वे (sarve) - all; गजाश्वरथयायिनः (gajāśvarathayāyinaḥ) - riders of elephants, horses, and chariots; न (na) - not; शेकुः (śekuḥ) - were able; आवर्तयितुम् (āvartayitum) - to turn back; ह्रियमाणम् (hriyamāṇam) - being carried away; च (ca) - and; तम् (tam) - that; जनम् (janam) - people;]
(The warriors of the Vṛṣṇis and all those riders of elephants, horses, and chariots were not able to turn back that people being carried away.)
The Vṛṣṇi warriors, including all those riding elephants, horses, and chariots, could not turn back the people who were being carried away. (16-8-55)
कलत्रस्य बहुत्वात्तु सम्पतत्सु ततस्ततः। प्रयत्नमकरोत्पार्थो जनस्य परिरक्षणे ॥१६-८-५६॥
kalatrasya bahutvāttu sampatatṣu tatastataḥ। prayatnamakarot pārtho janasya parirakṣaṇe ॥16-8-56॥
[कलत्रस्य (kalatrasya) - of the wives; बहुत्वात् (bahutvāt) - because of multiplicity; तु (tu) - but; सम्पतत्सु (sampatatṣu) - in those coming (arising, occurring) events; ततस्ततः (tatastataḥ) - here and there, in various places; प्रयत्नम् (prayatnam) - effort; अकरोत् (akarot) - he made; पार्थः (pārthaḥ) - Pārtha (son of Pṛthā, i.e., Arjuna); जनस्य (janasya) - of the people; परिरक्षणे (parirakṣaṇe) - in the protection;]
(Of the wives, because of multiplicity, but in those arising events here and there, effort he made Pārtha of the people in the protection.)
But because there were many wives and in the manifold incidents that arose, Pārtha (Arjuna) made efforts here and there for the protection of the people. (16-8-56)
मिषतां सर्वयोधानां ततस्ताः प्रमदोत्तमाः। समन्ततोऽवकृष्यन्त कामाच्चान्याः प्रवव्रजुः ॥१६-८-५७॥
miṣatāṃ sarvayodhānāṃ tatastāḥ pramadottamāḥ। samantato'vakṛṣyanta kāmāccānyāḥ pravavrajuḥ॥16-8-57॥
[मिषताम् (miṣatām) - while (they all) watched (from miṣ—'to see', genitive plural); सर्वयोधानाम् (sarvayodhānām) - of all warriors; ततः (tataḥ) - then; ताः (tāḥ) - those (feminine, the women); प्रमदोत्तमाः (pramadottamāḥ) - most excellent women; समन्ततः (samantataḥ) - on all sides; अवकृष्यन्त (avakṛṣyanta) - were dragged away; कामात् (kāmāt) - from desire; च (ca) - and; अन्याः (anyāḥ) - others (feminine, women); प्रवव्रजुः (pravavrajuḥ) - departed;]
(While all the warriors watched, then those most excellent women were dragged away on all sides, and others departed out of desire.)
Then, as all the warriors looked on, those foremost women were dragged away from all sides, and others left of their own desire. (16-8-57)
ततो गाण्डीवनिर्मुक्तैः शरैः पार्थो धनञ्जयः। जघान दस्यून्सोद्वेगो वृष्णिभृत्यैः सह प्रभुः ॥१६-८-५८॥
tato gāṇḍīva-nirmuktaiḥ śaraiḥ pārtho dhanañjayaḥ। jaghāna dasyūn sodvego vṛṣṇibhr̥tyaiḥ saha prabhuḥ ॥16-8-58॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - thereafter; गाण्डीवनिर्मुक्तैः (gāṇḍīva-nirmuktaiḥ) - by those released from the Gāṇḍīva (bow); शरैः (śaraiḥ) - with arrows; पार्थः (pārthaḥ) - Pārtha (Arjuna); धनञ्जयः (dhanañjayaḥ) - Dhanañjaya (another name of Arjuna); जघान (jaghāna) - killed; दस्यून् (dasyūn) - robbers; स-उद्वेगः (sa-udvegaḥ) - without agitation; वृष्णिभृत्यैः (vṛṣṇibhr̥tyaiḥ) - with the Vṛṣṇi servants; सह (saha) - together with; प्रभुः (prabhuḥ) - the lord;]
(Thereafter, by arrows released from the Gāṇḍīva, Pārtha, Dhanañjaya, killed the robbers, without agitation, together with the Vṛṣṇi servants, the lord.)
Then, Pārtha, Dhanañjaya (Arjuna), the lord, together with the Vṛṣṇi attendants, calmly killed the robbers with arrows released from the Gāṇḍīva. (16-8-58)
क्षणेन तस्य ते राजन्क्षयं जग्मुरजिह्मगाः। अक्षया हि पुरा भूत्वा क्षीणाः क्षतजभोजनाः ॥१६-८-५९॥
kṣaṇena tasya te rājan kṣayaṃ jagmur ajihmagāḥ। akṣayā hi purā bhūtvā kṣīṇāḥ kṣataja-bhojanāḥ॥16-8-59॥

(In a moment, O king, those straight-going (missiles) met destruction; indeed, having formerly become imperishable, they (now) exhausted, feeding on blood.)

(But while Pārtha was watching, indeed, the noble women of the Vṛṣṇis and Andhakas — those barbarians, having taken (them), departed from all sides, O Janamejaya.)
But, O Janamejaya, even as Pārtha looked on, the noble women of the Vṛṣṇis and Andhakas were carried off from all sides by the barbarians.
धनञ्जयस्तु दैवं तन्मनसाचिन्तयत्प्रभुः। दुःखशोकसमाविष्टो निःश्वासपरमोऽभवत् ॥१६-८-६२॥
dhanañjayastu daivaṃ tanmanasācintayatprabhuḥ। duḥkhaśokasamāviṣṭo niḥśvāsaparamobhavat ॥16-8-62॥

(Dhanañjaya but fate with that mind he thought, the lord; overcome by pain and grief, absorbed in sighing, he became.)
But Dhanañjaya (Arjuna), the lord, thought upon fate with his mind. Overcome by pain and grief, he became wholly absorbed in sighing. (16-8-62)
अस्त्राणां च प्रणाशेन बाहुवीर्यस्य सङ्क्षयात्। धनुषश्चाविधेयत्वाच्छराणां सङ्क्षयेण च ॥१६-८-६३॥

(Those dwelling in Dvārakā, who indeed were men, followed Pārtha (Arjuna); as was fitting, having distributed (them), Jaya (Yudhiṣṭhira) gave them (food) in the stronghold.)
