Karika 55
तत्र जरामरणकृतं दुःखं प्राप्नोति चेतनः पुरुषः। लिङ्गस्याविनिवृत्तेस्तस्माद्दुःखं स्वभावेन ॥५५॥
tatra jarāmaraṇakr̥taṁ duḥkhaṁ prāpnōti cētanaḥ puruṣaḥ। liṅgasyāvinivr̥ttēstasmādduḥkhaṁ svabhāvēna ॥55॥
[तत्र जरा मरण कृतं दुःखं प्राप्नोति चेतनः पुरुषः। लिङ्गस्य अविनि वृत्तेः तस्मात् दुःखं स्वभावेन॥
tatra = there is; jarā = decay / old age; maraṇa = death; kr̥taṁ = created by / due to; duḥkhaṁ = sorrow; prāpnōti = obtains; cētanaḥ = the spirit / being; puruṣaḥ = purusha; liṅgasya = from the physical body; avini vr̥ttēḥ = till it ceases; tasmāt = born from it; duḥkhaṁ = sorrow; svabhāvēna = but natural;]
There the spirit purusha obtains sorrow due to old age and death. Till the physical body ceases sorrow born from it is but natural.
