Vaisesika Sūtras

Vaisesika Sūtra 6.2.01

दृष्टादृष्टप्रयोजनानां दृष्टाभावे प्रयोजनमभ्युदयाय ॥१॥

dṛṣṭādṛṣṭaprayojanānāṃ dṛṣṭābhāve prayojanamabhyudayāya ॥1॥

[दृष्ट (dṛṣṭa) - seen; अदृष्ट (adṛṣṭa) - unseen; प्रयोजनानां (prayojanānāṃ) - of purposes; दृष्ट (dṛṣṭa) - seen; अभावे (abhāve) - in the absence; प्रयोजनम् (prayojanam) - purpose; अभ्युदयाय (abhyudayāya) - for long term benevolence;]

Among the seen and unseen purposes, in the absence of the seen, the (unseen) purpose is benevolence (abhyudayā).
