Vaisesika Sūtra 9.1.11

ātmany ātma-manasoḥ saṁyoga-viśeṣāt ātma pratyakṣam ॥11॥

Due to a special conjunction of the Ātmā and the mind within ourselves, the Ātmā is perceptible.
