(Having heard that curse from the presence of his mother, the best of serpents, Vasuki, thought, "How might this curse not come to be?")

(Some serpents there said, "We, having become the best of the twice-born, beg Janamejaya that your sacrifice may not be.")

(Having gone, some serpent will bite that one, he will die. In that killed sacrificer, the sacrifice will not be.)
