ततः काव्यो भृगुश्रेष्ठः समन्युरुपगम्य ह। वृषपर्वाणमासीनमित्युवाचाविचारयन् ॥०१-७५-१॥
tataḥ kāvyo bhṛguśreṣṭhaḥ samanyurupagamya ha। vṛṣaparvāṇamāsīnamityuvācāvicārayan ॥01-75-1॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; काव्यः (kāvyaḥ) - Kāvya, the descendant of Kavi; भृगुश्रेष्ठः (bhṛgu-śreṣṭhaḥ) - the best among the Bhṛgus; समन्युः (sa-manyuḥ) - with anger, angry; उपगम्य (upagamya) - having approached; ह (ha) - indeed; वृषपर्वाणम् (vṛṣaparvāṇam) - Vṛṣaparvan; आसीनम् (āsīnam) - seated; इति (iti) - thus; उवाच (uvāca) - said; अविचारयन् (avicārayan) - not deliberating, not reflecting;]
(Then Kāvya, the best of the Bhṛgus, angry, having approached indeed Vṛṣaparvan seated, thus spoke, not deliberating.)
Then Kāvya, the foremost of the Bhṛgus, angrily approached Vṛṣaparvan as he sat and, without deliberation, spoke thus. (01-75-1)
नाधर्मश्चरितो राजन्सद्यः फलति गौरिव। पुत्रेषु वा नप्तृषु वा न चेदात्मनि पश्यति ॥ फलत्येव ध्रुवं पापं गुरुभुक्तमिवोदरे ॥०१-७५-२॥
nādharmaścarito rājansadyaḥ phalati gauriva। putreṣu vā naptṛṣu vā na cedātmani paśyati ॥ phalatyeva dhruvaṃ pāpaṃ gurubhuktamivodare ॥01-75-2॥
[न (na) - not; अधर्मः (adharmaḥ) - unrighteousness; चरितः (caritaḥ) - practiced; राजन् (rājan) - O king; सद्यः (sadyaḥ) - immediately; फलति (phalati) - bears fruit; गौः (gauḥ) - a cow; इव (iva) - like; पुत्रेषु (putreṣu) - in sons; वा (vā) - or; नप्तृषु (naptṛṣu) - in grandsons; वा (vā) - or; न (na) - not; चेत् (cet) - if; आत्मनि (ātmani) - in oneself; पश्यति (paśyati) - sees; फलति (phalati) - bears fruit; एव (eva) - indeed; ध्रुवम् (dhruvam) - certainly; पापम् (pāpam) - evil; गुरु (guru) - heavy; भुक्तम् (bhuktam) - eaten; इव (iva) - like; उदरे (udare) - in the belly;]
(Performed unrighteousness, O king, does not immediately bear fruit, like a cow. In sons or in grandsons, or, if not, in himself he sees it. Evil surely bears fruit, like a heavy eaten thing in the belly. (01-75-2))
Unrighteousness that has been committed, O king, does not bear fruit at once, just as a cow does not immediately yield its result. If one does not see it in oneself, one sees it in one's sons or grandsons. Evil surely bears fruit, like heavy food eaten in the belly. (01-75-2)
यदघातयथा विप्रं कचमाङ्गिरसं तदा। अपापशीलं धर्मज्ञं शुश्रूषुं मद्गृहे रतम् ॥०१-७५-३॥
yadaghātayathā vipraṃ kacamāṅgirasaṃ tadā। apāpaśīlaṃ dharmajñaṃ śuśrūṣuṃ madgṛhe ratam ॥01-75-3॥
[यत् (yat) - when; अघातयथा (aghātayathā) - you killed; विप्रम् (vipram) - the Brahmin; कचम् (kacam) - Kaca; आङ्गिरसम् (āṅgirasam) - descendant of Aṅgiras; तदा (tadā) - then; अ-पाप-शीलम् (a-pāpa-śīlam) - of sinless conduct; धर्म-ज्ञम् (dharma-jñam) - knower of dharma; शुश्रूषुम् (śuśrūṣum) - desirous of service; मद् (mad) - my; गृहे (gṛhe) - in the house; रतम् (ratam) - engaged;]
(When you killed the Brahmin Kaca, the Āṅgirasa, then, of sinless conduct, a knower of dharma, desirous of service, engaged in my house.)
When you killed the Brahmin Kaca, the descendant of Aṅgiras, who was of sinless conduct, knew dharma, desired to serve, and was engaged in my house. (01-75-3)
वधादनर्हतस्तस्य वधाच्च दुहितुर्मम। वृषपर्वन्निबोधेदं त्यक्ष्यामि त्वां सबान्धवम् ॥ स्थातुं त्वद्विषये राजन्न शक्ष्यामि त्वया सह ॥०१-७५-४॥
vadhādanarhatastasya vadhācca duhiturmama। vṛṣaparvannibodhedaṃ tyakṣyāmi tvāṃ sabāndhavam ॥ sthātuṃ tvadviṣaye rājanna śakṣyāmi tvayā saha ॥01-75-4॥
[वधात् (vadhāt) - from killing; अनर्हतः (anarhataḥ) - of one not deserving; तस्य (tasya) - of that one; वधात् (vadhāt) - from killing; च (ca) - and; दुहितुः (duhituḥ) - of daughter; मम (mama) - my; वृषपर्वन् (vṛṣaparvan) - O Vṛṣaparvan; निबोध (nibodha) - know; इदम् (idam) - this; त्यक्ष्यामि (tyakṣyāmi) - I shall abandon; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; स (sa) - together with; बान्धवम् (bāndhavam) - kinsmen; स्थातुम् (sthātum) - to stay; त्वत् (tvat) - your; विषये (viṣaye) - in the domain; राजन् (rājan) - O king; न (na) - not; शक्ष्यामि (śakṣyāmi) - I shall be able; त्वया (tvayā) - with you; सह (saha) - together;]
(From the killing of that one not deserving of killing, and from the killing of my daughter, O Vṛṣaparvan, know this: I shall abandon you together with your kinsmen. To stay in your domain, O king, I shall not be able, with you.)
Because of the killing of that one who did not deserve to be killed, and because of the killing of my daughter, O Vṛṣaparvan, understand this: I will abandon you along with your kinsmen. O king, I will not be able to remain in your realm with you. (01-75-4)
अहो मामभिजानासि दैत्य मिथ्याप्रलापिनम्। यथेममात्मनो दोषं न नियच्छस्युपेक्षसे ॥०१-७५-५॥
aho māmabhijānāsi daitya mithyāpralāpinam। yathemamātmano doṣaṁ na niyacchasyupekṣase ॥01-75-5॥
[अहो (aho) - ah; alas; माम् (mām) - me; अभिजानासि (abhijānāsi) - you recognize; you know distinctly; दैत्य (daitya) - O descendant of Diti; O demon; मिथ्या (mithyā) - falsely; wrongly; प्रलापिनम् (pralāpinam) - one who prattles; speaker; यथा (yathā) - since; as; इमम् (imam) - this; आत्मनः (ātmanaḥ) - of yourself; one's own; दोषम् (doṣam) - fault; defect; न (na) - not; नियच्छसि (niyacchasi) - you restrain; you control; उपेक्षसे (upekṣase) - you disregard; you overlook;]
(Ah, me you recognize, O Daitya, as a false-prattler, since this fault of your own you do not restrain and overlook.)
Ah, O Daitya, you recognize me as a false speaker, since you do not restrain this fault of your own but overlook it. (01-75-5)
वृषपर्वोवाच॥

नाधर्मं न मृषावादं त्वयि जानामि भार्गव। त्वयि धर्मश्च सत्यं च तत्प्रसीदतु नो भवान् ॥०१-७५-६॥
nādharmaṃ na mṛṣāvādaṃ tvayi jānāmi bhārgava। tvayi dharmaśca satyaṃ ca tatprasīdatu no bhavān ॥01-75-6॥
[न अधर्मम् (na adharmam) - not unrighteousness; न (na) - not; मृषा वादम् (mṛṣā vādam) - false speech; त्वयि (tvayi) - in you; जानामि (jānāmi) - I know; भार्गव (bhārgava) - O descendant of Bhṛgu; त्वयि (tvayi) - in you; धर्मः च (dharmaḥ ca) - righteousness and; सत्यम् (satyam) - truth; च (ca) - and; तत् प्रसीदतु (tat prasīdatu) - therefore may he be gracious; नः (naḥ) - to us; भवान् (bhavān) - Your Honor;]
(I do not know unrighteousness, nor false speech, in you, O Bhārgava; in you are righteousness and truth; therefore may Your Honor be gracious to us.)
I know neither unrighteousness nor falsehood in you, O Bhārgava. In you are righteousness and truth; therefore may Your Honor be gracious to us. (01-75-6)
यद्यस्मानपहाय त्वमितो गच्छसि भार्गव। समुद्रं सम्प्रवेक्ष्यामो नान्यदस्ति परायणम् ॥०१-७५-७॥
yadyasmānapahāya tvamito gacchasi bhārgava। samudraṃ sampravekṣyāmo nānyadasti parāyaṇam ॥01-75-7॥
[यदि (yadi) - if; अस्मान् (asmān) - us; अपहाय (apahāya) - having abandoned; त्वम् (tvam) - you; इतः (itaḥ) - from here; गच्छसि (gacchasi) - you go; भार्गव (bhārgava) - O descendant of Bhṛgu; समुद्रम् (samudram) - the ocean; सम्प्रवेक्ष्यामः (sampravekṣyāmaḥ) - we shall enter completely; न (na) - not; अन्यत् (anyat) - another; अस्ति (asti) - exists; परायणम् (parāyaṇam) - refuge;]
(If, abandoning us, you go from here, O Bhargava, we shall enter the ocean; not another refuge exists.)
If you abandon us and go from here, O Bhargava, we shall enter the ocean; there is no other refuge. (01-75-7)

samudraṃ praviśadhvaṃ vā diśo vā dravatāsurāḥ। duhitur nāpriyaṃ soḍhuṃ śakto'haṃ dayitā hi me ॥01-75-8॥
[समुद्रम् (samudram) - ocean; प्रविशध्वम् (praviśadhvam) - enter; वा (vā) - or; दिशः (diśaḥ) - directions; वा (vā) - or; द्रवत (dravata) - run; असुराः (asurāḥ) - O Asuras; दुहितुः (duhituḥ) - of the daughter; न (na) - not; अप्रियम् (apriyam) - unpleasant thing; सोढुम् (soḍhum) - to endure; शक्तः (śaktaḥ) - able; अहम् (aham) - I; दयिता (dayitā) - beloved; हि (hi) - indeed; मे (me) - to me;]
(Enter the ocean, or run to the directions, O Asuras. I am not able to endure my daughter’s unpleasant thing, for she is dear to me. (01-75-8))
Enter the ocean, or flee to the quarters, O Asuras. I cannot bear anything unpleasant to my daughter, for she is dear to me. (01-75-8)
प्रसाद्यतां देवयानी जीवितं ह्यत्र मे स्थितम्। योगक्षेमकरस्तेऽहमिन्द्रस्येव बृहस्पतिः ॥०१-७५-९॥
prasādyatāṃ devayānī jīvitaṃ hyatra me sthitam। yogakṣemakaraste’hamindrasyeva bṛhaspatiḥ ॥01-75-9॥
[प्रसाद्यताम् (prasādyatām) - let be propitiated; देवयानी (devayānī) - Devayānī; जीवितम् (jīvitam) - life; हि (hi) - indeed; अत्र (atra) - here; मे (me) - my; स्थितम् (sthitam) - situated; योगक्षेमकरः (yogakṣemakaraḥ) - maker of acquisition and preservation; ते (te) - for you; अहम् (aham) - I; इन्द्रस्य (indrasya) - of Indra; इव (iva) - like; बृहस्पतिः (bṛhaspatiḥ) - Bṛhaspati;]
(Let Devayānī be propitiated; for my life here is situated. I am the maker of acquisition and preservation for you, like Bṛhaspati for Indra.)
Please let Devayānī be appeased, for my life depends on this. I shall secure your welfare, just as Bṛhaspati does for Indra. (01-75-9)

yatkiñcidasurendrāṇāṁ vidyate vasu bhārgava। bhuvi hastigavāśvaṁ vā tasya tvaṁ mama ceśvaraḥ ॥01-75-10॥
[यत् (yat) - whatever; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - anything at all; असुर (asura) - of the Asuras; इन्द्राणाम् (indrāṇām) - of the lords; विद्यते (vidyate) - exists; वसु (vasu) - wealth; भार्गव (bhārgava) - O descendant of Bhṛgu; भुवि (bhuvi) - on earth; हस्ति (hasti) - elephant; गव (gava) - cow; अश्वम् (aśvam) - horse; वा (vā) - or; तस्य (tasya) - of that; त्वम् (tvam) - you; मम (mama) - of me; च (ca) - and; ईश्वरः (īśvaraḥ) - lord;]
(Whatever wealth of the lords of the Asuras exists, O Bhārgava, on earth, or elephant-cow-horse wealth, of that you are the lord, and also of me.)
Whatever wealth of the lords of the Asuras exists on earth, O Bhārgava, whether elephants, cattle, or horses, you are the lord of that, and of me as well.

yatkiñcidasti draviṇaṃ daityendrāṇāṃ mahāsura। tasyeśvaro'smi yadi te devayānī prasādyatām ॥01-75-11॥
[यत् (yat) - whatever; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - anything, any; अस्ति (asti) - there is; द्रविणम् (draviṇam) - wealth, substance; दैत्य-इन्द्राणाम् (daitya-indrāṇām) - of the lords of the Daityas; महासुर (mahāsura) - O great Asura; तस्य (tasya) - of that; ईश्वरः (īśvaraḥ) - master, lord; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; यदि (yadi) - if; ते (te) - to you, for you; देवयानी (devayānī) - Devayānī; प्रसाद्यताम् (prasādyatām) - let her be appeased, let her be propitiated;]
(Whatever any wealth there is of the Daitya-lords, O great Asura, of that I am the master; if it is acceptable to you, let Devayānī be propitiated.)
Whatever wealth belongs to the lords of the Daityas, O great Asura, I am the master of it. If it pleases you, let Devayānī be appeased. (01-75-11)

[यदि (yadi) - if; त्वम् (tvam) - you; ईश्वरः (īśvaraḥ) - lord, master; तात (tāta) - dear one; राज्ञः (rājñaḥ) - of the king; वित्तस्य (vittasya) - of wealth; भार्गव (bhārgava) - O descendant of Bhṛgu; न (na) - not; अभिजानामि (abhijānāmi) - I know, I recognize; तत् (tat) - that; ते (te) - of you, your; अहम् (aham) - I; राजा (rājā) - the king; तु (tu) - but; वदतु (vadatu) - let him speak; स्वयम् (svayam) - himself;]
(If you are the lord, dear one, of the king's wealth, O Bhārgava, I do not know that of yours; but let the king himself speak. (01-75-12))
If you are the master of the king's wealth, dear Bhārgava, I do not recognize that authority of yours; let the king himself speak. (01-75-12)

yaṃ kāmamabhikāmāsi devayāni śucismite। tatte'haṃ sampradāsyāmi yadi cedapi durlabham ॥01-75-13॥
[यम् (yam) - which; कामम् (kāmam) - desire; अभिकामासि (abhikāmāsi) - you desire intensely; देवयानि (devayāni) - O Devayānī; शुचि (śuci) - pure; स्मिते (smite) - O smiling one; तत् (tat) - that; ते (te) - to you; अहम् (aham) - I; सम् (sam) - fully; प्र (pra) - forth; दास्यामि (dāsyāmi) - shall give; यदि (yadi) - if; चेत् (cet) - indeed; अपि (api) - even; दुर्लभम् (durlabham) - hard to obtain;]
(Which desire you desire, O Devayānī, O pure-smiling one, that to you I shall fully bestow, if indeed even hard to obtain.)
O Devayānī, pure-smiling one, whatever desire you long for, I shall grant it to you, even if it is difficult to obtain. (01-75-13)

दासीं कन्यासहस्रेण शर्मिष्ठामभिकामये। अनु मां तत्र गच्छेत्सा यत्र दास्यति मे पिता ॥०१-७५-१४॥
dāsīṁ kanyāsahasreṇa śarmiṣṭhāmabhikāmaye। anu māṁ tatra gacchetsā yatra dāsyati me pitā ॥01-75-14॥
[दासीम् (dāsīm) - female servant; कन्या-सहस्रेण (kanyā-sahasreṇa) - with a thousand maidens; शर्मिष्ठाम् (śarmiṣṭhām) - Śarmiṣṭhā; अभिकामये (abhikāmaye) - I desire; अनु (anu) - after; माम् (mām) - me; तत्र (tatra) - there; गच्छेत् (gacchet) - should go; सा (sā) - she; यत्र (yatra) - wherever; दास्यति (dāsyati) - will give; मे (me) - me; पिता (pitā) - father;]
(Śarmiṣṭhā as a female servant, with a thousand maidens, I desire. After me there she should go, wherever my father will give me. (01-75-14))
I desire Śarmiṣṭhā as my maidservant, along with a thousand maidens. Wherever my father gives me, she should follow me there. (01-75-14)

uttiṣṭha he saṅgrahītri śarmiṣṭhāṃ śīghramānaya। yaṃ ca kāmayate kāmaṃ devayānī karotu tam ॥01-75-15॥
[उत्तिष्ठ (uttiṣṭha) - arise; हे (he) - O; सङ्ग्रहीत्रि (saṅgrahītri) - O female gatherer, O attendant; शर्मिष्ठाम् (śarmiṣṭhām) - Śarmiṣṭhā; शीघ्रम् (śīghram) - quickly; आनय (ānaya) - bring; यम् (yam) - which; च (ca) - and; कामयते (kāmayate) - desires; कामम् (kāmam) - desire, desired object; देवयानी (devayānī) - Devayānī; करोतु (karotu) - may she do; तम् (tam) - that;]
(Arise, O gatherer-attendant, quickly bring Śarmiṣṭhā. And which desire Devayānī desires, may she do that. (01-75-15))
Arise, O attendant, and quickly bring Śarmiṣṭhā. Let Devayānī do whatever she desires. (01-75-15)

tato dhātrī tatra gatvā śarmiṣṭhāṃ vākyam abravīt। uttiṣṭha bhadre śarmiṣṭhe jñātīnāṃ sukham āvaha ॥01-75-16॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; धात्री (dhātrī) - nurse; तत्र (tatra) - there; गत्वा (gatvā) - having gone; शर्मिष्ठाम् (śarmiṣṭhām) - Śarmiṣṭhā; वाक्यम् (vākyam) - speech; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - spoke; उत्तिष्ठ (uttiṣṭha) - rise; भद्रे (bhadre) - O auspicious one; शर्मिष्ठे (śarmiṣṭhe) - O Śarmiṣṭhā; ज्ञातीनाम् (jñātīnām) - of the kinsmen; सुखम् (sukham) - happiness; आवह (āvaha) - bring;]
(Then the nurse, having gone there, spoke a word to Śarmiṣṭhā: "Rise, O gracious one, O Śarmiṣṭhā, bring happiness to the kinsmen.")
Then the nurse went there and spoke to Śarmiṣṭhā: "Rise, noble Śarmiṣṭhā, and bring happiness to your kinsmen." (01-75-16)
त्यजति ब्राह्मणः शिष्यान्देवयान्या प्रचोदितः। सा यं कामयते कामं स कार्योऽद्य त्वयानघे ॥०१-७५-१७॥
tyajati brāhmaṇaḥ śiṣyāndevayānyā pracoditaḥ। sā yaṃ kāmayate kāmaṃ sa kāryo'dya tvayānaghe ॥01-75-17॥
[त्यजति (tyajati) - abandons; ब्राह्मणः (brāhmaṇaḥ) - the Brāhmaṇa; शिष्यान् (śiṣyān) - disciples; देवयान्या (devayānyā) - by Devayānī; प्रचोदितः (pracoditaḥ) - impelled; सा (sā) - she; यम् (yam) - which; कामयते (kāmayate) - desires; कामम् (kāmam) - desire; सः (saḥ) - that; कार्यः (kāryaḥ) - is to be done; अद्य (adya) - today; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; अनघे (anaghe) - O blameless one;]
(The Brāhmaṇa abandons the disciples, impelled by Devayānī. That desire which she desires, that is to be done today by you, O blameless one. (01-75-17))
Impelled by Devayānī, the Brāhmaṇa abandons his disciples. The desire that she longs for must be fulfilled by you today, O blameless one. (01-75-17)
शर्मिष्ठोवाच॥

सा यं कामयते कामं करवाण्यहमद्य तम्। मा त्वेवापगमच्छुक्रो देवयानी च मत्कृते ॥०१-७५-१८॥
sā yaṃ kāmayate kāmaṃ karavāṇyahamadya tam। mā tvevāpagamacchukro devayānī ca matkṛte ॥01-75-18॥
[सा (sā) - she; यम् (yam) - which; कामयते (kāmayate) - desires; कामम् (kāmam) - desire; करवाणि (karavāṇi) - I shall do; अहम् (aham) - I; अद्य (adya) - today; तम् (tam) - that; मा (mā) - may not; तु (tu) - but; एव (eva) - indeed; अपगमत् (apagamat) - depart; शुक्रः (śukraḥ) - Śukra; देवयानी (devayānī) - Devayānī; च (ca) - and; मत्कृते (matkṛte) - on account of me;]
(She, which desire she desires, I shall do that today. But indeed may Śukra and Devayānī not depart on account of me. (01-75-18))
I will do today whatever desire she wishes; but Śukra and Devayānī must not depart because of me. (01-75-18)

tataḥ kanyāsahasreṇa vṛtā śibikayā tadā। piturniyogāttvaritā niścakrāma purottamāt ॥01-75-19॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; thereafter; कन्या-सहस्रेण (kanyā-sahasreṇa) - with a thousand maidens; वृता (vṛtā) - surrounded; accompanied; शिबिकया (śibikayā) - by a palanquin; in a palanquin; तदा (tadā) - then; at that time; पितुः (pituḥ) - of the father; नियोगात् (niyogāt) - from the command; by the order; त्वरिता (tvaritā) - hastened; hurried; निश्चक्राम (niścakrāma) - went out; departed; पुर-उत्तमात् (pura-uttamāt) - from the best city; from the excellent city;]
(Then, surrounded by a thousand maidens, then by a palanquin, hastened by the command of her father, she went out from the best city. (01-75-19))

(I, with a thousand maidens, am your maidservant, an attendant. Following you, there I shall go, where your father will give you. (01-75-20))

stuvato duhitā te'haṁ bandinaḥ pratigṛhṇataḥ। stūyamānasya duhitā kathaṁ dāsī bhaviṣyasi ॥01-75-21॥
[स्तुवतः (stuvataḥ) - of one praising; दुहिता (duhitā) - daughter; ते (te) - your; अहम् (aham) - I; बन्दिनः (bandinaḥ) - of a bard; प्रतिगृह्णतः (pratigṛhṇataḥ) - of one accepting; स्तूयमानस्य (stūyamānasya) - of one being praised; दुहिता (duhitā) - daughter; कथम् (katham) - how; दासी (dāsī) - female servant; भविष्यसि (bhaviṣyasi) - you will become;]
(Of one praising, daughter, your I am, of a bard accepting; of one being praised, as daughter, how will you become a slave?)
I am your daughter, of a bard who praises and accepts gifts; you are the daughter of one who is praised. How will you become a slave? (01-75-21)

[प्रतिश्रुते (pratiśrute) - when promised; दासभावे (dāsabhāve) - in the state of servitude; दुहित्रा (duhitrā) - by the daughter; वृषपर्वणः (vṛṣaparvaṇaḥ) - of Vṛṣaparvan; देवयानी (devayānī) - Devayānī; नृपश्रेष्ठ (nṛpaśreṣṭha) - O best of kings; पितरम् (pitaram) - father; वाक्यम् (vākyam) - a statement; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - spoke;]

[प्रविशामि (praviśāmi) - I enter; पुरम् (puram) - the city; तात (tāta) - O dear one; तुष्टा (tuṣṭā) - satisfied; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; द्विज-सत्तम (dvija-sattama) - O best of the twice-born; अमोघम् (amogham) - unfailing; तव (tava) - your; विज्ञानम् (vijñānam) - knowledge; अस्ति (asti) - is; विद्या-बलम् (vidyā-balam) - the power of knowledge; च (ca) - and; ते (te) - of you;]
(I enter the city, O dear one; I am satisfied, O best of the twice-born. Your knowledge is unfailing, and the power of knowledge is yours. (01-75-24))
I shall enter the city, dear one; I am pleased, O best of the twice-born. Your knowledge is unfailing, and you possess the power of learning. (01-75-24)
एवमुक्तो दुहित्रा स द्विजश्रेष्ठो महायशाः। प्रविवेश पुरं हृष्टः पूजितः सर्वदानवैः ॥०१-७५-२५॥

(Thus addressed by his daughter, he, the best of the twice-born, greatly renowned, entered the city, delighted, honored by all the Dānavas. (01-75-25))
