ततो गर्भः समभवत्पृथायाः पृथिवीपते। शुक्ले दशोत्तरे पक्षे तारापतिरिवाम्बरे ॥०३-२९२-१॥
tato garbhaḥ samabhavat-pṛthāyāḥ pṛthivīpate। śukle daśottare pakṣe tārāpatir-ivāmbare ॥03-292-1॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; गर्भः (garbhaḥ) - embryo; समभवत् (samabhavat) - arose; was born; पृथायाः (pṛthāyāḥ) - of Pṛthā (Kuntī); पृथिवीपते (pṛthivīpate) - O lord of the earth; शुक्ले (śukle) - bright; दशोत्तरे (daśottare) - in the tenth and after (i.e., after ten); पक्षे (pakṣe) - fortnight; तारापतिरिव (tārāpatir-iva) - like the lord of stars; अम्बरे (ambare) - in the sky;]
(Then embryo arose of Pṛthā, O lord of the earth. In the bright fortnight, after the tenth (day), like the lord of stars in the sky.)
Then, O lord of the earth, an embryo arose in Pṛthā; in the bright fortnight, after the tenth day, like the lord of the stars in the sky. (03-292-1)
सा बान्धवभयाद्बाला तं गर्भं विनिगूहती। धारयामास सुश्रोणी न चैनां बुबुधे जनः ॥०३-२९२-२॥
sā bāndhava-bhayād bālā taṃ garbhaṃ vinigūhatī। dhārayām āsa su-śroṇī na ca enāṃ bubudhe janaḥ॥03-292-2॥
[सा (sā) - she; बान्धवभयात् (bāndhava-bhayāt) - from fear of relatives; बाला (bālā) - the young woman; तम् (tam) - that; गर्भम् (garbham) - pregnancy; विनिगूहती (vinigūhatī) - concealing; धारयामास (dhārayām āsa) - did carry; सुश्रोणी (suśroṇī) - having beautiful hips; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; एनाम् (enām) - her; बुबुधे (bubudhe) - (anyone) noticed; जनः (janaḥ) - people;]
(She, from fear of relatives, the young woman, that pregnancy concealing, did carry, having beautiful hips, not and her (anyone) noticed, people.)
She, the young woman with beautiful hips, out of fear of her relatives, concealed her pregnancy and carried it; and no one among the people noticed her. (03-292-2)
न हि तां वेद नार्यन्या काचिद्धात्रेयिकामृते। कन्यापुरगतां बालां निपुणां परिरक्षणे ॥०३-२९२-३॥
na hi tāṃ veda nāry anyā kācid dhātreyikām ṛte. kanyāpuragatāṃ bālāṃ nipuṇāṃ parirakṣaṇe ॥03-292-3॥
[न (na) - not; हि (hi) - indeed; तां (tāṃ) - her; वेद (veda) - knows; नार्यन्या (nāry anyā) - any other woman; काचित् (kācit) - someone; anyone; धात्रेयिकाम् (dhātreyikām) - the nurse (daughter of nurse); ऋते (ṛte) - except; कन्यापुरगताम् (kanyā-puragatām) - gone to the maiden’s house; बालाम् (bālām) - young girl; निपुणाम् (nipuṇām) - skilled; परिरक्षणे (parirakṣaṇe) - in protection;]
(Not indeed her knows any other woman someone (except) the nurse, gone to the maiden’s house, the young girl, skilled in protection.)
Indeed, no other woman except for the nurse knows her—the young girl who has gone to the maiden's house, skilled in protection. (03-292-3)
ततः कालेन सा गर्भं सुषुवे वरवर्णिनी। कन्यैव तस्य देवस्य प्रसादादमरप्रभम् ॥०३-२९२-४॥
tataḥ kālena sā garbhaṃ suṣuve varavarṇinī। kanyaiva tasya devasya prasādādamaraprabham ॥03-292-4॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; कालेन (kālena) - by time; सा (sā) - she; गर्भं (garbhaṃ) - embryo; offspring; सुषुवे (suṣuve) - gave birth (to); वरवर्णिनी (varavarṇinī) - of excellent complexion; कन्या (kanyā) - maiden; एव (eva) - indeed; तस्य (tasya) - of that; देवस्य (devasya) - of the god; प्रसादात् (prasādāt) - by the grace; अमरप्रभम् (amaraprabham) - having the splendor of immortals;]
(Then by time she an offspring gave birth to, of excellent complexion. A maiden indeed, by the grace of that god, having the splendor of immortals.)
Then, in due course, she of excellent complexion gave birth to a child. This was a maiden who, by the grace of that god, possessed the radiance of the immortals. (03-292-4)
तथैव बद्धकवचं कनकोज्ज्वलकुण्डलम्। हर्यक्षं वृषभस्कन्धं यथास्य पितरं तथा ॥०३-२९२-५॥
tathaiva baddhakavacaṃ kanakojjvalakuṇḍalam। haryakṣaṃ vṛṣabhaskandhaṃ yathāsya pitaraṃ tathā॥03-292-5॥
[तथैव (tathaiva) - just so; in the same manner; बद्धकवचम् (baddhakavacam) - with fastened armor; कनकोज्ज्वलकुण्डलम् (kanakojjvalakuṇḍalam) - with golden shining earrings; हर्यक्षम् (haryakṣam) - having a lion as vehicle; वृषभस्कन्धम् (vṛṣabhaskandham) - with the bull as support (shoulder); यथा (yathā) - just as; अस्य (asya) - his; पितरम् (pitaram) - father; तथा (tathā) - so; in the same way;]
(Just so, with fastened armor, with golden shining earrings, having a lion as vehicle, with the bull as support, just as his father, so (was he).)
He was exactly like his father: wearing fastened armor, adorned with golden shining earrings, having a lion for his vehicle, and the bull as his support. (03-292-5)
जातमात्रं च तं गर्भं धात्र्या संमन्त्र्य भामिनी। मञ्जूषायामवदधे स्वास्तीर्णायां समन्ततः ॥०३-२९२-६॥
jātamātraṃ ca taṃ garbhaṃ dhātryā sanmantrya bhāminī। mañjūṣāyām avadadhe svāstīrṇāyāṃ samantataḥ ॥03-292-6॥
[जातमात्रं (jātamātram) - just born; just emerged; च (ca) - and; तं (tam) - that; गर्भं (garbham) - embryo; fetus; धात्र्या (dhātryā) - by the nurse; by the wet-nurse; संमन्त्र्य (sanmantrya) - having spoken appropriately; after advising; भामिनी (bhāminī) - the splendid lady; the woman; मञ्जूषायाम् (mañjūṣāyām) - in the chest; in the box; अवदधे (avadadhe) - placed; put; स्वास्तीर्णायाम् (svāstīrṇāyām) - on the well-spread (bed); समन्ततः (samantataḥ) - all around; on all sides;]
(Just born, and that embryo by the nurse, having spoken appropriately, the splendid lady in the chest placed, on the well-spread bed all around.)
The nurse, after due consultation, placed the just-born child, as directed by the noble lady, into the chest lined with soft bedding on all sides. (03-292-6)
मधूच्छिष्टस्थितायां सा सुखायां रुदती तथा। श्लक्ष्णायां सुपिधानायामश्वनद्यामवासृजत् ॥०३-२९२-७॥
madhūcchiṣṭasthitāyāṃ sā sukhāyāṃ rudatī tathā| ślakṣṇāyāṃ supidhānāyām aśvanadyām avāsṛjat॥03-292-7॥
[मधूच्छिष्टस्थितायां (madhūcchiṣṭasthitāyām) - in the place of honey-leavings; सा (sā) - she; सुखायां (sukhāyām) - on the comfortable (place); रुदती (rudatī) - weeping; तथा (tathā) - thus; श्लक्ष्णायां (ślakṣṇāyām) - on the smooth (surface); सुपिधानायाम् (supidhānāyām) - well-covered; अश्वनद्याम् (aśvanadyām) - on the river named Aśvanadī; अवासृजत् (avāsṛjat) - she released;]
(In the place of honey-leavings she, on the comfortable (place), weeping thus, on the smooth, well-covered, on the river Aśvanadī, she released.)
She, weeping thus, released (it) in the spot of honey-leavings, on the smooth, well-covered, comfortable place by the river Aśvanadī. (03-292-7)
जानती चाप्यकर्तव्यं कन्याया गर्भधारणम्। पुत्रस्नेहेन राजेन्द्र करुणं पर्यदेवयत् ॥०३-२९२-८॥
jānati cāpy-akartavyaṃ kanyāyā garbhadhāraṇam। putrasnehenā rājendra karuṇaṃ paryadevayat ॥03-292-8॥
[जानती (jānati) - knowing; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; अकर्तव्यम् (akartavyam) - not to be done; कन्याया (kanyāyāḥ) - by a maiden; गर्भधारणम् (garbhadhāraṇam) - bearing of a womb (conception); पुत्रस्नेहेन (putrasnehenā) - by affection for her son; राजेन्द्र (rājendra) - O king; करुणम् (karuṇam) - piteously; पऱ्यदेवयत् (paryadevayat) - lamented;]
(Knowing also that conception is not to be done by a maiden, yet by affection for her son, O king, piteously she lamented.)
Though she knew that conception by a maiden is not proper, out of affection for her son, O king, she lamented piteously. (03-292-8)
समुत्सृजन्ती मञ्जूषामश्वनद्यास्तदा जले। उवाच रुदती कुन्ती यानि वाक्यानि तच्छृणु ॥०३-२९२-९॥
samutsṛjantī mañjūṣām aśvanadyās tadā jale। uvāca rudatī kuntī yāni vākyāni tac chṛṇu ॥03-292-9॥
[समुत्सृजन्ती (samutsṛjantī) - releasing together; casting away; मञ्जूषाम् (mañjūṣām) - the box; अश्वनद्याः (aśvanadyāḥ) - of the Ashvanadi (river); तदा (tadā) - then; जले (jale) - in the water; उवाच (uvāca) - said; रुदती (rudatī) - crying; कुन्ती (kuntī) - Kunti; यानि (yāni) - which; what; वाक्यानि (vākyāni) - words; तत् (tat) - those; शृणु (śṛṇu) - hear;]
(Releasing the box into the water of the Ashvanadi then, crying, Kunti said those words — hear what they were.)
As she released the box into the water of the Ashvanadi River, Kunti, weeping, spoke these words — hear them now. (03-292-9)
स्वस्ति तेऽस्त्वान्तरिक्षेभ्यः पार्थिवेभ्यश्च पुत्रक। दिव्येभ्यश्चैव भूतेभ्यस्तथा तोयचराश्च ये ॥०३-२९२-१०॥
svasti te'stvāntarikṣebhyaḥ pārthivebhyaś ca putraka। divyebhyaś caiva bhūtebhyas tathā toyacarāś ca ye ॥03-292-10॥
[स्वस्ति (svasti) - well-being; ते (te) - to you; अस्तु (astu) - may it be; अन्तरिक्षेभ्यः (antarīkṣebhyaḥ) - from the beings of the mid-space; पार्थिवेभ्यः (pārthivebhyaḥ) - from the earthly (beings); च (ca) - and; पुत्रक (putraka) - O son; दिव्येभ्यः (divyebhyaḥ) - from the heavenly (beings); च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; भूतेभ्यः (bhūtebhyaḥ) - from the beings (all creatures); तथा (tathā) - and also; तोयचराः (toyacarāḥ) - those who move in water; च (ca) - and; ये (ye) - who;]
(Well-being to you may there be from the beings of the mid-space, from the earthly (beings), and, O son, from the heavenly (beings), and indeed also from the beings, and also those who move in water and who.)
O son, may well-being be to you from the beings of the mid-space, the earthly beings, the heavenly beings, from all beings, and from those who move in water. (03-292-10)
शिवास्ते सन्तु पन्थानो मा च ते परिपन्थिनः। आगमाश्च तथा पुत्र भवन्त्वद्रोहचेतसः ॥०३-२९२-११॥
śivās te santu panthāno mā ca te paripanthinaḥ। āgamāś ca tathā putra bhavantu adroha-cetasaḥ ॥03-292-11॥
[शिवाः (śivāḥ) - auspicious; beneficent; ते (te) - for you; सन्तु (santu) - may there be; पन्थानः (panthānaḥ) - paths; मा (mā) - not; च (ca) - and; ते (te) - to you; परिपन्थिनः (paripanthinaḥ) - obstacles; adversaries; आगमाः (āgamāḥ) - arrivals; comings; च (ca) - and; तथा (tathā) - likewise; as well; पुत्र (putra) - son; भवन्तु (bhavantu) - may they be; अद्रोहचेतसः (adroha-cetasaḥ) - of minds without malice;]
(Auspicious for you may be paths, and let there not be obstacles for you. Comings also likewise, son, may they be of minds without malice.)
May auspicious paths be yours, and may you have no adversaries; likewise, son, may those who come to you have minds free from malice. (03-292-11)
पातु त्वां वरुणो राजा सलिले सलिलेश्वरः। अन्तरिक्षेऽन्तरिक्षस्थः पवनः सर्वगस्तथा ॥०३-२९२-१२॥
pātu tvāṃ varuṇo rājā salile salileśvaraḥ। antarikṣe'ntarikṣasthaḥ pavanaḥ sarvagastathā ॥03-292-12॥
[पातु (pātu) - may protect; (optative of √pā – to protect); त्वां (tvāṃ) - you; वरुणः (varuṇaḥ) - Varuṇa; (Vedic deity of waters); राजा (rājā) - king; सलिले (salile) - in the water; सलिलेश्वरः (salileśvaraḥ) - lord of waters; अन्तरिक्षे (antarikṣe) - in the sky; in the atmosphere; अन्तरिक्षस्थः (antarikṣasthaḥ) - abiding in the sky; पवनः (pavanaḥ) - wind; सर्वगः (sarvagaḥ) - all-pervading; तथा (tathā) - thus; in the same way;]
(May Varuṇa the king, lord of waters, protect you in the water. In the sky, may Pavana, the wind who dwells in the atmosphere and is all-pervading, (protect you) thus.)
May Varuṇa the king, lord of the waters, protect you in water; and in the sky, may Pavana, the wind who abides in the atmosphere and is all-pervading, protect you likewise. (03-292-12)
पिता त्वां पातु सर्वत्र तपनस्तपतां वरः। येन दत्तोऽसि मे पुत्र दिव्येन विधिना किल ॥०३-२९२-१३॥
pitā tvāṃ pātu sarvatra tapanas tapatāṃ varaḥ। yena datto'si me putra divyena vidhinā kila ॥03-292-13॥
[पिता (pitā) - father; त्वां (tvāṃ) - you; पातु (pātu) - may he protect; सर्वत्र (sarvatra) - everywhere; तपनः (tapanas) - the Sun; तपतां (tapatāṃ) - of those who burn; वरः (varaḥ) - best; येन (yena) - by whom; दत्तः (dattaḥ) - (you were) given; असि (asi) - are; मे (me) - to me; पुत्र (putra) - son; दिव्येन (divyena) - by divine; विधिना (vidhinā) - by method; किल (kila) - indeed;]
(Father, may he protect you everywhere, the Sun, the best of those who burn; by whom you were given to me, O son, by a divine method indeed.)
May your father, the Sun, the foremost of those who shine, protect you everywhere; by whom you were indeed given to me, O son, in accordance with a divine ordinance. (03-292-13)
आदित्या वसवो रुद्राः साध्या विश्वे च देवताः। मरुतश्च सहेन्द्रेण दिशश्च सदिगीश्वराः ॥०३-२९२-१४॥
ādityā vasavo rudrāḥ sādhyā viśve ca devatāḥ. marutaś ca sahendreṇa diśaś ca sadigīśvarāḥ ॥03-292-14॥
[आदित्या (ādityā) - the Ādityas; वसवः (vasavaḥ) - the Vasus; रुद्राः (rudrāḥ) - the Rudras; साध्याः (sādhyāḥ) - the Sādhyas; विश्वे (viśve) - all; च (ca) - and; देवताः (devatāḥ) - the deities; मरुतः (marutaḥ) - the Maruts; च (ca) - and; सह (saha) - together with; इन्द्रेण (indreṇa) - with Indra; दिशः (diśaḥ) - the directions; च (ca) - and; सदिग् (sadig) - with each direction; ईश्वराः (īśvarāḥ) - the lords;]
(Ādityas, Vasus, Rudras, Sādhyas, all the deities, Maruts and with Indra, the directions and the lords of each direction.)
The Ādityas, Vasus, Rudras, Sādhyas, all the gods, the Maruts along with Indra, the directions and their lords (the guardians of the quarters). (03-292-14)
रक्षन्तु त्वां सुराः सर्वे समेषु विषमेषु च। वेत्स्यामि त्वां विदेशेऽपि कवचेनोपसूचितम् ॥०३-२९२-१५॥
rakṣantu tvāṃ surāḥ sarve sameṣu viṣameṣu ca। vetsyāmi tvāṃ videśe'pi kavacenopasūcitam ॥03-292-15॥
[रक्षन्तु (rakṣantu) - may protect; त्वां (tvāṃ) - you; सुराः (surāḥ) - gods; सर्वे (sarve) - all; समेषु (sameṣu) - in equal situations; विषमेषु (viṣameṣu) - in difficult (unequal) situations; च (ca) - and; वेत्स्यामि (vetsyāmi) - I will know; त्वां (tvāṃ) - you; विदेशे (videśe) - in a foreign place; अपि (api) - even; कवचेन (kavacena) - by (means of) armor; उपसूचितम् (upasūcitam) - communicated/hinted;]
(May all the gods protect you in equal situations and in difficult situations and I will know you even in a foreign place, communicated (to me) by the armor.)
May all the gods protect you in both favorable and unfavorable situations, and I will recognize you even in a foreign land through the sign given by the armor. (03-292-15)
धन्यस्ते पुत्र जनको देवो भानुर्विभावसुः। यस्त्वां द्रक्ष्यति दिव्येन चक्षुषा वाहिनीगतम् ॥०३-२९२-१६॥
dhanyas te putra janako devo bhānur vibhāvasuḥ। yas tvāṃ drakṣyati divyena cakṣuṣā vāhinī-gatam॥03-292-16॥
[धन्यः (dhanyaḥ) - blessed;”},{;]
(Blessed is your father, O son; the god Bhānu, Vibhāvasu; who will behold you, entered into (the) army, with (his) divine eye.)
Blessed is your father, O son; the god Bhānu, Vibhāvasu. Whoever beholds you in the army with divine sight is indeed fortunate. (03-292-16)
धन्या सा प्रमदा या त्वां पुत्रत्वे कल्पयिष्यति। यस्यास्त्वं तृषितः पुत्र स्तनं पास्यसि देवज ॥०३-२९२-१७॥
dhanyā sā pramadā yā tvāṃ putratve kalpayiṣyati। yasyāstvāṃ tṛṣitaḥ putra stanaṃ pāsyasi devaja ॥03-292-17॥
[धन्या (dhanyā) - fortunate; blessed; सा (sā) - she; प्रमदा (pramadā) - woman; या (yā) - who; त्वां (tvām) - you; पुत्रत्वे (putratve) - in sonship; as a son; कल्पयिष्यति (kalpayiṣyati) - will consider; will make; यस्याः (yasyāḥ) - whose; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; तृषितः (tṛṣitaḥ) - thirsty; desiring; पुत्र (putra) - son; स्तनं (stanaṃ) - breast; पास्यसि (pāsyasi) - will drink; देवज (devaja) - O divine-born;]
(Fortunate she woman who you in sonship will consider. Whose you thirsty son breast will drink, O divine-born.)
Fortunate is that woman who will accept you as her son. O divine-born, whose breast you will drink as a thirsty child.
को नु स्वप्नस्तया दृष्टो या त्वामादित्यवर्चसम्। दिव्यवर्मसमायुक्तं दिव्यकुण्डलभूषितम् ॥०३-२९२-१८॥
ko nu svapnas tayā dṛṣṭo yā tvām ādityavarcasam। divyavarmasamāyuktaṃ divyakuṇḍalabhūṣitam॥03-292-18॥
[को (ko) - who; नु (nu) - indeed; स्वप्नः (svapnaḥ) - dream; तया (tayā) - by her; दृष्टः (dṛṣṭaḥ) - seen; या (yā) - who; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; आदित्यवर्चसम् (ādityavarcasam) - having the brilliance of the sun; दिव्यवर्मसमायुक्तम् (divyavarmasamāyuktam) - endowed with divine armor; दिव्यकुण्डलभूषितम् (divyakuṇḍalabhūṣitam) - adorned with divine earrings;]
(Who indeed is the dream seen by her, who (saw) you, having the brilliance of the sun, endowed with divine armor, adorned with divine earrings?)
Who indeed is the dream that she saw, in which you appeared brilliant like the sun, endowed with divine armor and adorned with divine earrings? (03-292-18)
पद्मायतविशालाक्षं पद्मताम्रतलोज्ज्वलम्। सुललाटं सुकेशान्तं पुत्रत्वे कल्पयिष्यति ॥०३-२९२-१९॥
padmāyata-viśālākṣaṃ padma-tāmra-talojjvalam. sulalāṭaṃ sukeśāntaṃ putratve kalpayiṣyati ॥03-292-19॥
[पद्मायत (padmāyata) - with eyes shaped like a lotus; विशालाक्षं (viśālākṣam) - large-eyed; पद्मताम्रतल (padma-tāmra-tala) - having lotus-copper (red) soles; उज्ज्वलम् (ujjvalam) - brilliant; सुललाटं (sulalāṭam) - with a lovely forehead; सुकेशान्तं (sukeśāntam) - with beautiful hair ending (hairline); पुत्रत्वे (putratve) - in the condition of a son; कल्पयिष्यति (kalpayiṣyati) - will constitute;]
(With lotus-shaped large eyes, brilliant with lotus-copper soles, with a lovely forehead, with a beautiful hairline, in sonship will constitute.)
He will constitute (someone) with large lotus-shaped eyes, soles brilliant like lotus-copper, a lovely forehead, and a beautiful hairline as a son. (03-292-19)
धन्या द्रक्ष्यन्ति पुत्र त्वां भूमौ संसर्पमाणकम्। अव्यक्तकलवाक्यानि वदन्तं रेणुगुण्ठितम् ॥०३-२९२-२०॥
dhanyā drakṣyanti putra tvāṃ bhūmau saṃsarpamāṇakam। avyaktakalavākyāni vadantaṃ reṇuguṇṭhitam॥03-292-20॥
[धन्या (dhanyā) - fortunate (ones); द्रक्ष्यन्ति (drakṣyanti) - will see; पुत्र (putra) - son; त्वां (tvāṃ) - you; भूमौ (bhūmau) - on the ground; संसर्पमाणकम् (saṃsarpamāṇakam) - crawling about; अव्यक्तकलवाक्यानि (avyaktakalavākyāni) - indistinct babblings; वदन्तं (vadantam) - uttering; रेणुगुण्ठितम् (reṇuguṇṭhitam) - covered with dust;]
(Fortunate (ones) will see, son, you, on the ground, crawling about, indistinct babblings, uttering, covered with dust.)
Fortunate people, my son, will see you crawling about on the ground, covered with dust, uttering indistinct babblings. (03-292-20)
धन्या द्रक्ष्यन्ति पुत्र त्वां पुनर्यौवनगे मुखे। हिमवद्वनसम्भूतं सिंहं केसरिणं यथा ॥०३-२९२-२१॥
dhanyā drakṣyanti putra tvāṃ punaryauvanage mukhe. himavad-vanasambhūtaṃ siṃhaṃ kesariṇaṃ yathā ॥03-292-21॥
[धन्या (dhanyā) - fortunate ones; द्रक्ष्यन्ति (drakṣyanti) - will see; पुत्र (putra) - son; त्वां (tvāṃ) - you; पुन:यौवनगे (punar-yauvanage) - in again youthful; मुखे (mukhe) - in the face; हिमवद्वनसम्भूतं (himavad-vana-sambhūtaṃ) - born in the Himalayan forest; सिंहं (siṃhaṃ) - lion; केसरिणं (kesariṇam) - lion (with mane); यथा (yathā) - like;]
(Fortunate ones will see you, son, in again youthful face, like a lion with mane born in the Himalayan forest.)
Fortunate people, my son, will see you again in your youthful appearance, just as a lion with a mane is seen, born in the Himalayan forest. (03-292-21)
एवं बहुविधं राजन्विलप्य करुणं पृथा। अवासृजत मञ्जूषामश्वनद्यास्तदा जले ॥०३-२९२-२२॥
evaṁ bahuvidhaṁ rājan vilapya karuṇaṁ pṛthā। avāsṛjata mañjūṣām aśvanadyās tadā jale ॥03-292-22॥
[एवं (evaṁ) - thus; बहुविधं (bahuvidhaṁ) - of many kinds; राजन् (rājan) - O king; विलप्य (vilapya) - having lamented; करुणं (karuṇam) - piteously; पृथा (pṛthā) - Pṛthā; अवासृजत (avāsṛjata) - released; मञ्जूषाम् (mañjūṣām) - the box; अश्वनद्याः (aśvanadyāḥ) - of Aśvanadī; तदा (tadā) - then; जले (jale) - in the water;]
(Thus, of many kinds, O king, having lamented piteously, Pṛthā released the box of Aśvanadī then in the water.)
O king, thus having lamented in many ways with deep sorrow, Pṛthā then released the box into the water of the Aśvanadī river. (03-292-22)
रुदती पुत्रशोकार्ता निशीथे कमलेक्षणा। धात्र्या सह पृथा राजन्पुत्रदर्शनलालसा ॥०३-२९२-२३॥
rudatī putraśokārtā niśīthe kamalekṣaṇā। dhātryā saha pṛthā rājan putradarśanalālasā ॥03-292-23॥
[रुदती (rudatī) - weeping; पुत्रशोकार्ता (putraśokārtā) - afflicted by grief for her son; निशीथे (niśīthe) - at midnight; कमलेक्षणा (kamalekṣaṇā) - lotus-eyed; धात्र्या (dhātryā) - with (her) nurse; सह (saha) - together with; पृथा (pṛthā) - Pṛthā; राजन् (rājan) - O king; पुत्रदर्शनलालसा (putradarśanalālasā) - longing to see her son;]

विसर्जयित्वा मञ्जूषां सम्बोधनभयात्पितुः। विवेश राजभवनं पुनः शोकातुरा ततः ॥०३-२९२-२४॥
visarjayitvā mañjūṣāṁ saṁbodhanabhayātpituḥ। viveśa rājabhavanaṁ punaḥ śokāturā tataḥ॥03-292-24॥
[विसर्जयित्वा (visarjayitvā) - having put away; (having) dismissed; मञ्जूषां (mañjūṣām) - box; casket; सम्बोधनभयात्पितुः (saṁbodhanabhayāt-pituḥ) - from fear of addressing (her) father; विवेश (viveśa) - she entered; राजभवनं (rājabhavanam) - the royal palace; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; शोकातुरा (śokāturā) - afflicted by grief; ततः (tataḥ) - then;]
(Having put away the box, from fear of addressing her father, she entered the royal palace again, then afflicted by grief.)
Because of the fear of addressing her father, she put away the casket and then, afflicted with grief, she again entered the royal palace. (03-292-24)
मञ्जूषा त्वश्वनद्याः सा ययौ चर्मण्वतीं नदीम्। चर्मण्वत्याश्च यमुनां ततो गङ्गां जगाम ह ॥०३-२९२-२५॥
mañjūṣā tvaśvanadyāḥ sā yayau carmaṇvatīṃ nadīm. carmaṇvatyāśca yamunāṃ tato gaṅgāṃ jagāma ha ॥03-292-25॥
[मञ्जूषा (mañjūṣā) - box; त् (t) - but; अश्वनद्याः (aśvanadyāḥ) - from Aśvanadī (the river named Aśvanadī); सा (sā) - she; ययौ (yayau) - went; चर्मण्वतीं (carmaṇvatīṃ) - to Carmaṇvatī (the river Carmaṇvatī); नदीम् (nadīm) - river; चर्मण्वत्याः (carmaṇvatyāḥ) - from Carmaṇvatī; च (ca) - and; यमुनां (yamunāṃ) - to Yamunā (the river Yamunā); ततः (tataḥ) - then; गङ्गां (gaṅgāṃ) - to Gaṅgā (the river Gaṅgā); जगाम (jagāma) - (she) went; ह (ha) - indeed;]
(The box, indeed, from Aśvanadī, she went to the Carmaṇvatī river; from Carmaṇvatī, and to the Yamunā, then to the Gaṅgā indeed she went.)
The box, having departed from the Aśvanadī river, went to the Carmaṇvatī river; from Carmaṇvatī to the Yamunā, then to the Gaṅgā indeed she went. (03-292-25)
गङ्गायाः सूतविषयं चम्पामभ्याययौ पुरीम्। स मञ्जूषागतो गर्भस्तरङ्गैरुह्यमानकः ॥०३-२९२-२६॥
gaṅgāyāḥ sūtaviṣayaṃ campām abhyāyayau purīm। sa mañjūṣā-gato garbhaḥ taraṅgaiḥ uhyamānakaḥ ॥03-292-26॥
[गङ्गायाः (gaṅgāyāḥ) - of Gaṅgā; सूतविषयं (sūtaviṣayam) - the territory of Sūta; चम्पाम् (campām) - Campā; अभ्याययौ (abhyāyayau) - approached; पुरीम् (purīm) - city; स (sa) - he; मञ्जूषा-गतः (mañjūṣā-gataḥ) - gone into the box; गर्भः (garbhaḥ) - the embryo; तरङ्गैः (taraṅgaiḥ) - by waves; उह्यमानकः (uhyamānakaḥ) - being carried;]
(Of Gaṅgā, the territory of Sūta, Campā city he approached. He, gone into the box, the embryo, by waves being carried.)
He, who was an embryo placed in a box, being carried by the waves of the Gaṅgā, approached the city of Campā in the territory of the Sūtas. (03-292-26)
अमृतादुत्थितं दिव्यं तत्तु वर्म सकुण्डलम्। धारयामास तं गर्भं दैवं च विधिनिर्मितम् ॥०३-२९२-२७॥
amṛtād utthitaṃ divyaṃ tat tu varma sakuṇḍalam। dhārayāmāsa taṃ garbhaṃ daivaṃ ca vidhinirmitam॥03-292-27॥
[अमृतात् (amṛtāt) - from nectar; उत्थितम् (utthitam) - risen; दिव्यम् (divyam) - divine; तत् (tat) - that; तु (tu) - but; वर्म (varma) - armor; सकुण्डलम् (sakuṇḍalam) - with earrings; धारयामास (dhārayāmāsa) - he/she/it bore; तम् (tam) - that; गर्भम् (garbham) - embryo; दैवम् (daivam) - divine; च (ca) - and; विधिनिर्मितम् (vidhinirmitam) - created by Vidhi (the divine law or Brahmā);]
(From nectar risen, divine, that but armor with earrings; he/she/it bore that embryo, divine and created by Vidhi.)
That divine armor with earrings, arisen from nectar—he bore that embryo, which was divine and created by Vidhi (Brahmā). (3-292-27)
