(Then, as the wise king of gods was pondering the means of Nahusha's destruction together with the guardians of the world, there appeared the revered ascetic Agastya.)

(He said to the worshipful Indra, "Fortunately, you indeed grow by the destruction of Viśvarūpa and the killing of Vṛtrāsura.")

adharme sampravṛttastvaṃ dharmaṃ na pratipadyase। pramāṇametadasmākaṃ pūrvaṃ proktaṃ maharṣibhiḥ ॥5-17-10॥
[अधर्मे (adharme) - in unrighteousness; सम्प्रवृत्तः (sampravṛttaḥ) - engaged; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; धर्मं (dharmaṃ) - righteousness; न (na) - not; प्रतिपद्यसे (pratipadyase) - attain; प्रमाणम् (pramāṇam) - proof; एतत् (etat) - this; अस्माकं (asmākaṃ) - our; पूर्वं (pūrvaṃ) - before; प्रोक्तं (proktaṃ) - spoken; महर्षिभिः (maharṣibhiḥ) - by great sages;]
(You are engaged in unrighteousness and do not attain righteousness. This is the proof spoken by our great sages before.)

(And also you, foolish, having made the sages, who are like Brahma and difficult to approach, as vehicles, drive them, by that deprived of splendor from heaven.)

(Destruction of sin fallen, depleted of merit on earth. For ten thousand years, assuming the form of a great serpent, you will wander. When completed, you will again attain heaven.)
