Pancharatra-core: After the departure of Keshava, Duryodhana ordered his army to prepare and camp at Kurukshetra.
janamejaya uvāca॥
Janamejaya spoke:
yudhiṣṭhiraṃ sahānīkamupayāntaṃ yuyutsayā। saṃniviṣṭaṃ kurukṣetre vāsudevena pālitam ॥5-150-1॥
Yudhishthira, along with his army, approached Kurukshetra with the intent to fight and was settled there under the protection of Vasudeva.
virāṭadrupadābhyāṃ ca saputrābhyāṃ samanvitam। kekayairvṛṣṇibhiścaiva pārthivaiḥ śataśo vṛtam ॥5-150-2॥
Virata and Drupada, along with their sons, were accompanied by the Kekayas, Vrishnis, and surrounded by hundreds of kings.
mahendram iva cādityair abhiguptaṃ mahārathaiḥ। śrutvā duryodhano rājā kiṃ kāryaṃ pratyapadyata ॥5-150-3॥
Upon hearing that Duryodhana, the king, was protected by the Ādityas and great charioteers like Mahendra, what action did he decide to take?
etadicchāmyahaṃ śrotuṃ vistareṇa tapodhana। sambhrame tumule tasmin yadāsīt kurujāṅgale ॥5-150-4॥
I wish to hear in detail, O sage, about the events that transpired during the tumultuous times in Kurujangala.
vyathayeyur hi devānāṃ senām api samāgame। pāṇḍavā vāsudevaś ca virāṭadrupadau tathā ॥5-150-5॥
In the assembly, the Pandavas, along with Vasudeva, Virata, and Drupada, would cause even the army of the gods to be agitated.
dhṛṣṭadyumnaśca pāñcālyaḥ śikhaṇḍī ca mahārathaḥ। yuyudhānaśca vikrānto devairapi durāsadaḥ ॥5-150-6॥
Dhṛṣṭadyumna, the son of Pāñcāla, and Śikhaṇḍī, the great chariot-warrior, along with the valiant Yuyudhāna, are formidable even to the gods.
etadicchāmyahaṃ śrotuṃ vistareṇa tapodhana। kurūṇāṃ pāṇḍavānāṃ ca yadyadāsīdviceṣṭitam ॥5-150-7॥
I wish to hear in detail, O sage, about all the activities of the Kurus and the Pandavas.
vaiśampāyana uvāca॥
Vaiśampāyana spoke:
pratiyāte tu dāśārhe rājā duryodhanastadā। karṇaṃ duḥśāsanaṃ caiva śakuniṃ cābravīdidam ॥5-150-8॥
After the departure of the Daśārha, King Duryodhana addressed Karna, Duhshasana, and Shakuni.
akṛtenaiva kāryeṇa gataḥ pārthānadhokṣajaḥ। sa enānmanyunāviṣṭo dhruvaṃ vakṣyatya(saṃśayam) ॥5-150-9॥
The transcendental Lord, having left the task unfinished, has gone to the sons of Pritha. Overcome with anger, he will undoubtedly express his thoughts.
iṣṭo hi vāsudevasya pāṇḍavairmama vigrahaḥ। bhīmasenārjunau caiva dāśārhasya mate sthitau ॥5-150-10॥
The Pāṇḍavas, indeed, desire conflict with me, which is supported by Vāsudeva. Bhīmasena and Arjuna are aligned with the views of Dāśārha.
ajātaśatrurapyadya bhīmārjunavaśānugaḥ। nikṛtaśca mayā pūrvaṃ saha sarvaiḥ sahodaraiḥ ॥5-150-11॥
Today, even Ajatashatru is under the influence of Bhima and Arjuna, having been previously deceived by me along with all the brothers.
virāṭadrupadau caiva kṛtavairau mayā saha। tau ca senāpraṇetārau vāsudevavaśānugau ॥5-150-12॥
Virata and Drupada, who had enmity with me, were the leaders of the army under the influence of Vasudeva.
bhavitā vigrahaḥ so'yaṃ tumulo lomaharṣaṇaḥ। tasmātsāṅgrāmikaṃ sarvaṃ kārayadhvamatandritāḥ ॥5-150-13॥
There will be a fierce and terrifying conflict. Therefore, prepare everything related to battle without delay.
śibirāṇi kurukṣetre kriyantāṃ vasudhādhipāḥ। suparyāptāvakāśāni durādeyāni śatrubhiḥ ॥5-150-14॥
O rulers of the earth, establish the camps in Kurukshetra with enough space so that they are not easily accessible to enemies.
āsannajalakāṣṭhāni śataśo'tha sahasraśaḥ। acchedyāhāramārgāṇi ratnoccayacitāni ca ॥ vividhāyudhapūrṇāni patākādhvajavanti ca ॥5-150-15॥
Near the water, there are logs by the hundreds and thousands, unbreakable paths for food, heaps of gems piled up, and various weapons filled with flags and banners.
samāśca teṣāṃ panthānaḥ kriyantāṃ nagarādbahiḥ। prayāṇaṃ ghuṣyatām adya śvobhūta iti māciram ॥5-150-16॥
Let the paths be leveled outside the city and announce the departure today, not tomorrow, to avoid any delay.
te tatheti pratijñāya śvobhūte cakrire tathā। hṛṣṭarūpā mahātmāno vināśāya mahīkṣitām ॥5-150-17॥
The great souls, joyful in their demeanor, promised to act the next day for the destruction of the rulers.
tataste pārthivāḥ sarve tacchrutvā rājaśāsanam। āsanebhyo mahārhebhya udatiṣṭhannamarṣitāḥ ॥5-150-18॥
Upon hearing the royal decree, all the kings rose from their esteemed seats, filled with indignation.
bāhūn parighasaṅkāśān saṃspṛśantaḥ śanaiḥ śanaiḥ। kāñcanāṅgadadīptāṃś ca candanāgarubhūṣitān ॥5-150-19॥
They slowly touched their arms, which were like iron clubs, adorned with golden armlets and decorated with sandalwood paste.
uṣṇīṣāṇi niyacchantaḥ puṇḍarīkanibhaiḥ karaiḥ। antarīyottarīyāṇi bhūṣaṇāni ca sarvaśaḥ ॥5-150-20॥
They adjusted their turbans with hands that resembled lotuses, and arranged their lower and upper garments and ornaments all over.
te rathān rathinaḥ śreṣṭhā hayāṁś ca hayakovidāḥ। sajjayanti sma nāgāṁś ca nāgaśikṣāsu niṣṭhitāḥ ॥5-150-21॥
The best charioteers and horse experts were indeed preparing the chariots, horses, and elephants, all skilled in their respective trainings.
atha varmāṇi citrāṇi kāñcanāni bahūni ca। vividhāni ca śastrāṇi cakruḥ sajjāni sarvaśaḥ ॥5-150-22॥
Then they prepared various golden armors and many different weapons, making everything ready.
padātayaśca puruṣāḥ śastrāṇi vividhāni ca। upajahruḥ śarīreṣu hemacitrāṇyanekaśaḥ ॥5-150-23॥
The foot-soldiers and men brought various weapons and adorned their bodies with numerous golden ornaments.
tadutsava ivodagraṃ samprahṛṣṭanarāvṛtam. nagaraṃ dhārtarāṣṭrasya bhāratāsītsamākulam ॥5-150-24॥
The city of Dhritarashtra was bustling like a grand festival, filled with joyful men, O Bharata.
janaughasalilāvarto rathanāgāśvamīnavān। śaṅkhadundubhinirghoṣaḥ kośasañcayaratnavān ॥5-150-25॥
A whirlpool of water teeming with people, filled with chariots, elephants, horses, and fish. The sound of conches and drums echoes, and it possesses a treasury filled with collected gems.
citrābharaṇavarmormiḥ śastranirmalaphenavān। prāsādamālādrivṛto rathyāpaṇamahāhradaḥ ॥5-150-26॥
The scene is a vibrant and dynamic depiction of a place where the waves of colorful ornaments and armor are frothy with pure weapons. It is surrounded by a garland of palaces and mountains, creating a vast lake-like area filled with streets and bustling markets.
yodhacandrodayodbhūtaḥ kururājamahārṇavaḥ। adṛśyata tadā rājaṃścandrodaya ivārṇavaḥ ॥5-150-27॥
The rise of the warrior was as magnificent as the moon emerging from the ocean, O king. It was a sight to behold, like the moonrise over the vast ocean.
