Pancharatra-Core: Bhishma continues his description of the Kaurava army.
भीष्म उवाच॥
Bhishma said:
सुदक्षिणस्तु काम्बोजो रथ एकगुणो मतः। तवार्थसिद्धिमाकाङ्क्षन्योत्स्यते समरे परैः ॥५-१६३-१॥
Sudakshina, the Kamboja prince, known for his unique chariot, will fight alongside others in battle, aiming to achieve your objectives.
एतस्य रथसिंहस्य तवार्थे राजसत्तम। पराक्रमं यथेन्द्रस्य द्रक्ष्यन्ति कुरवो युधि ॥५-१६३-२॥
The Kurus will witness the mighty valor of this chariot-warrior for your cause, O noble king, akin to that of Indra in the battlefield.
एतस्य रथवंशो हि तिग्मवेगप्रहारिणाम्। काम्बोजानां महाराज शलभानामिवायतिः ॥५-१६३-३॥
O great king, the lineage of these chariots, known for their swift and fierce attacks, is comparable to the spread of the Kambojas and locusts.
नीलो माहिष्मतीवासी नीलवर्मधरस्तव। रथवंशेन शत्रूणां कदनं वै करिष्यति ॥५-१६३-४॥
Nila, who resides in Mahishmati and wears blue armor, will surely bring about the destruction of your enemies with his chariot lineage.
कृतवैरः पुरा चैव सहदेवेन पार्थिवः। योत्स्यते सततं राजंस्तवार्थे कुरुसत्तम ॥५-१६३-५॥
The king, who once had enmity with Sahadeva, will now always fight for your cause, O best of the Kurus.
विन्दानुविन्दावावन्त्यौ समेतौ रथसत्तमौ। कृतिनौ समरे तात दृढवीर्यपराक्रमौ ॥५-१६३-६॥
O dear, Vindha and Anuvindha, the princes of Avanti, are together as excellent charioteers, skilled in battle with firm strength and valor.
एतौ तौ पुरुषव्याघ्रौ रिपुसैन्यं प्रधक्ष्यतः। गदाप्रासासिनाराचैस्तोमरैश्च भुजच्युतैः ॥५-१६३-७॥
These two warriors, like tigers among men, will destroy the enemy army with weapons such as maces, spears, swords, arrows, and javelins thrown with great force.
युद्धाभिकामौ समरे क्रीडन्ताविव यूथपौ। यूथमध्ये महाराज विचरन्तौ कृतान्तवत् ॥५-१६३-८॥
O great king, they wandered in the battlefield, eager for battle, like two leaders playing amidst the troops, resembling death itself.
त्रिगर्ता भ्रातरः पञ्च रथोदारा मता मम। कृतवैराश्च पार्थेन विराटनगरे तदा ॥५-१६३-९॥
The five Trigarta brothers, known for their great chariot skills, were considered by me to have had enmity with Arjuna in the city of Virata at that time.
मकरा इव राजेन्द्र समुद्धततरङ्गिणीम्। गङ्गां विक्षोभयिष्यन्ति पार्थानां युधि वाहिनीम् ॥५-१६३-१०॥

ते रथाः पञ्च राजेन्द्र येषां सत्यरथो मुखम्। एते योत्स्यन्ति समरे संस्मरन्तः पुरा कृतम् ॥५-१६३-११॥
These are the five chariots, O King, led by Satyaratha. They will engage in battle, recalling the deeds of the past.
व्यलीकं पाण्डवेयेन भीमसेनानुजेन ह। दिशो विजयता राजञ्श्वेतवाहेन भारत ॥५-१६३-१२॥
Indeed, there was deception by Bhimasena's younger brother, the son of Pandu. The directions were conquered by Arjuna, the one with white horses, O King Bharata.
ते हनिष्यन्ति पार्थानां समासाद्य महारथान्। वरान्वरान्महेष्वासान्क्षत्रियाणां धुरन्धराः ॥५-१६३-१३॥
They will defeat the great charioteers of the Pandavas, having confronted the excellent archers, the leaders among warriors.
लक्ष्मणस्तव पुत्रस्तु तथा दुःशासनस्य च। उभौ तौ पुरुषव्याघ्रौ सङ्ग्रामेष्वनिवर्तिनौ ॥५-१६३-१४॥
Lakshmana, your son, and Duhshasana's son, both of them were like tigers among men, never retreating in battles.
तरुणौ सुकुमारौ च राजपुत्रौ तरस्विनौ। युद्धानां च विशेषज्ञौ प्रणेतारौ च सर्वशः ॥५-१६३-१५॥
The young and delicate princes, skilled and energetic, are leaders and experts in battles in every aspect.
रथौ तौ रथशार्दूल मतौ मे रथसत्तमौ। क्षत्रधर्मरतौ वीरौ महत्कर्म करिष्यतः ॥५-१६३-१६॥
Those two chariots, regarded as the best by me, are like tigers among charioteers, devoted to the warrior's duty, and are heroes who will accomplish great deeds.
दण्डधारो महाराज रथ एको नरर्षभः। योत्स्यते समरं प्राप्य स्वेन सैन्येन पालितः ॥५-१६३-१७॥
The great king, a formidable warrior, will engage in battle with his chariot, protected by his own army, showcasing his prowess as a leader among men.
बृहद्बलस्तथा राजा कौसल्यो रथसत्तमः। रथो मम मतस्तात दृढवेगपराक्रमः ॥५-१६३-१८॥
Brihadbala, the king of Kausalya, is also considered the best among charioteers. In my opinion, dear, his chariot is unmatched in speed and valor.
एष योत्स्यति सङ्ग्रामे स्वां चमूं सम्प्रहर्षयन्। उग्रायुधो महेष्वासो धार्तराष्ट्रहिते रतः ॥५-१६३-१९॥
This warrior, a fierce and skilled archer, will enter the battle, uplifting his own troops, dedicated to the cause of Dhritarashtra's sons.
कृपः शारद्वतो राजन्रथयूथपयूथपः। प्रियान्प्राणान्परित्यज्य प्रधक्ष्यति रिपूंस्तव ॥५-१६३-२०॥
Kṛpa, the son of Śaradvat and chief among the chariot warriors, O king, will sacrifice his dear life to destroy your enemies.
गौतमस्य महर्षेर्य आचार्यस्य शरद्वतः। कार्त्तिकेय इवाजेयः शरस्तम्बात्सुतोऽभवत् ॥५-१६३-२१॥
The son of the great sage Gautama, who was the teacher of Sharadvata, became invincible like Kartikeya, emerging from the arrow-pillar.
एष सेनां बहुविधां विविधायुधकार्मुकाम्। अग्निवत्समरे तात चरिष्यति विमर्दयन् ॥५-१६३-२२॥
This formidable army, equipped with a variety of weapons and bows, will advance like a blazing fire in battle, dear one, crushing everything in its path.
