ततः प्रभाते राजेन्द्र सूर्ये विमल उद्गते। भार्गवस्य मया सार्धं पुनर्युद्धमवर्तत ॥५-१८३-१॥
tataḥ prabhāte rājendra sūrye vimala udgate। bhārgavasya mayā sārdhaṃ punaryuddhamavartata ॥5-183-1॥

(Then, standing on the confused chariot, Rama, the best of attackers, showered arrow showers on me like Indra on the mountain.)
Then, as the chariot was in disarray, Rama, the greatest among warriors, stood firm and unleashed a torrent of arrows upon me, akin to how Indra would rain upon a mountain.
तेन सूतो मम सुहृच्छरवर्षेण ताडितः। निपपात रथोपस्थे मनो मम विषादयन् ॥५-१८३-३॥

(Then the charioteer, afflicted by Rama's arrow, left his life-breaths. After a moment, as if in fear, O king, it entered me then.)

(Then, O king, as the charioteer was killed, Rama, with a distracted mind, sent my arrows, equal to death, throwing them.)

(Then, Bhārgava, with a strong bow, having drawn deeply, struck me, distressed and afflicted by the charioteer, with an arrow.)

स मे जत्र्वन्तरे राजन्निपत्य रुधिराशनः। मयैव सह राजेन्द्र जगाम वसुधातलम् ॥५-१८३-८॥

(Thinking that I was killed, Rama then, O best of Bharatas, roared loudly like a cloud and rejoiced again and again.)

(Then I saw the fallen royal lion; eight Brahmins, sun-like and fire-like. They stood surrounding me all around, embracing with their arms in the midst of the battlefield.)

(Protected by them, the sages, I did not touch the ground. Indeed, I am situated in the sky by them, the sages, as if by relatives. As if sleeping in the sky and sprinkled by drops of water.)

(Then the brāhmaṇas, O king, said, embracing me, "Do not fear," thus, together all (said), "Well-being to you," thus, and repeatedly.)

(Then, satisfied by their words, I suddenly arose. I saw the best mother of rivers seated in a chariot.)

हयाश्च मे सङ्गृहीतास्तया वै; महानद्या संयति कौरवेन्द्र। पादौ जनन्याः प्रतिपूज्य चाहं; तथार्ष्टिषेणं रथमभ्यरोहम् ॥५-१८३-१६॥

(Then I, O best of the Bharatas, released a swift and mighty arrow in battle at Rama, piercing his heart.)

(Then, oppressed by the speed of arrows, Rama went to the earth on his knees, having abandoned his bow, under the influence of delusion.)
