Drupada put in great effort among all his people. Then he excelled in writing, arts, and archery, becoming Drona's disciple, O king.
Then, his mother, the beautiful queen, urged the king for their daughter's marriage, treating her like a son.
Then Pārṣata, upon seeing the girl who had reached her youth, thought of her as a woman and, along with his wife, became worried.
Drupada spoke:
This girl of mine has reached her youth, which only increases sorrow. I have kept her hidden, as per the words of Śūlapāṇi.
O great queen, that will never be false. Why would the creator of the three worlds ever act falsely?

The wife spoke:
If it pleases you, O king, I will speak; listen to my words. After hearing them, you may now proceed with your task, O son of Pṛṣata.
"O king, let his marriage be conducted properly according to the rules. I am convinced that this statement will come true."

Then the couple, having decided on that matter, chose the daughter of the king of Dasharna.
Then King Drupada, known as the lion among kings, after observing all the royal families, chose the daughter of the Daśārṇa king as the bride for Śikhaṇḍin.
King Hiraṇyavarman, known as the Daśārṇa, gave his daughter to Śikhaṇḍin.
Hiranyavarma, the invincible and great-minded king, ruled the land of Dasharnas with great might and wisdom.
After the marriage was performed, the girl, who was Śikhaṇḍinī, reached her youth, O best of kings.
Śikhaṇḍī, having married, returned to Kampilya. For some time, she was unaware that the girl was actually a woman.
Hiranyavarman's daughter, realizing that she was indeed Shikhandini, informed the nurses and friends in embarrassment. She was the daughter of the Panchala king, known as Shikhandini.
Then, O tiger among kings, the nurses from the Dāśārṇa region were overwhelmed with extreme distress and sorrow, and they indeed sent a message.
The messengers of the lord of the Daśārṇa reported everything about the deception as it happened, and the king became angry.
Shikhandi, O great king, in the lineage of kings, then lived joyfully, engaged in activities, not really liking the state of being a woman.
After a few days, upon hearing the news, O best of the Bharatas, King Hiranyavarma was deeply distressed by anger.
Then, the king of the Daśārṇa, in a fit of intense anger, dispatched a messenger to Drupada's residence.
Then, the messenger of Kāñcanavarman approached Drupada and, after ensuring privacy, spoke to him in seclusion.
The king of Dasharna addressed you, O king, with these words: "O sinless one, deceived and angered by attachment, by you."
O king, you indeed disrespect me by your ill-advised decision to ask for my daughter for your own daughter, driven by delusion.
Today, you shall face the consequences of your deceit, wicked-minded one. I will elevate you along with your ministers and friends. Remain steadfast.
