ततस्ते क्षत्रिया राजन्समाजह्रुः समन्ततः। भक्ष्यानुच्चावचांस्तत्र वारिकुम्भांश्च शीतलान् ॥६-११६-११॥
tataste kṣatriyā rājansamājahruḥ samantataḥ। bhakṣyān uccāvacāṃs tatra vārikumbhāṃś ca śītalān ॥6-116-11॥

Upon seeing what was brought near, Bhishma, the son of Shantanu, remarked: "Dear one, today I am unable to partake in any human pleasures."
उपभोक्तुं मनुष्येभ्यः शरशय्यागतो ह्यहम्। प्रतीक्षमाणस्तिष्ठामि निवृत्तिं शशिसूर्ययोः ॥६-११६-१३॥
upabhoktuṃ manuṣyebhyaḥ śaraśayyāgato hyaham। pratīkṣamāṇastiṣṭhāmi nivṛttiṃ śaśisūryayoḥ ॥6-116-13॥

(I have indeed come to the bed of arrows to enjoy from humans. I stand waiting for the end of the moon and the sun.)

अथोपेत्य महाबाहुरभिवाद्य पितामहम्। अतिष्ठत्प्राञ्जलिः प्रह्वः किं करोमीति चाब्रवीत् ॥६-११६-१५॥

(Then, the mighty-armed, having approached and saluted the grandsire, stood with folded hands, humble, and said, "What shall I do?")

Upon seeing the Pāṇḍava standing respectfully before him, the virtuous Bhīṣma, pleased, spoke to Dhanañjaya.
दह्यतेऽदः शरीरं मे संस्यूतोऽस्मि महेषुभिः। मर्माणि परिदूयन्ते वदनं मम शुष्यति ॥६-११६-१७॥
dahyate'daḥ śarīraṃ me saṃsyūto'smi maheṣubhiḥ। marmāṇi paridūyante vadanaṃ mama śuṣyati ॥6-116-17॥

अर्जुनस्तु तथेत्युक्त्वा रथमारुह्य वीर्यवान्। अधिज्यं बलवत्कृत्वा गाण्डीवं व्याक्षिपद्धनुः ॥६-११६-१९॥
arjunastu tathetyuktvā rathamāruhya vīryavān। adhijyaṃ balavatkṛtvā gāṇḍīvaṃ vyākṣipaddhanuḥ ॥6-116-19॥

(His bowstring's twang was like the thunder of a thunderbolt. All beings and all kings were terrified upon hearing it.)
