(Then the battle was extremely frightening to the eyes and ears, O king, terrible and wonderful, and spectacular all around.)

सर्वेषां तत्र भूतानां लोमहर्षो व्यजायत। तद्दृष्ट्वा समरे कर्म कर्णशैनेययोर्नृप ॥८-४२-१७॥

etasminnantare drauṇirabhyayātsumahābalam। pārṣataṃ śatrudamanaṃ śatruvīryāsunāśanam ॥8-42-18॥

(Aśvatthāmā, angry, spoke from a distance to Arjuna: "Stop, stop, O slayer of a Brahmin, today you will not escape alive from me.")

इत्युक्त्वा सुभृशं वीरः शीघ्रकृन्निशितैः शरैः। पार्षतं छादयामास घोररूपैः सुतेजनैः ॥ यतमानं परं शक्त्या यतमानो महारथः ॥८-४२-२०॥

(Then the powerful son of Droṇa said, hastening to the nearby Dhṛṣṭadyumna, "O great king, lord of men, I will send you to death from the lowly Pāñcālas.")

(The sin which was committed by you by killing Droṇa before, today it will indeed fall upon you as unskilled so.)

यदि तावन्मया द्रोणो निहतो ब्राह्मणब्रुवः। त्वामिदानीं कथं युद्धे न हनिष्यामि विक्रमात् ॥८-४२-२७॥

एतस्मिन्नेव काले तु माधवोऽर्जुनमब्रवीत्। पश्य पार्थ यथा द्रौणिः पार्षतस्य वधं प्रति ॥ यत्नं करोति विपुलं हन्याच्चैनमसंशयम् ॥८-४२-४०॥

At that moment, Madhava spoke to Arjuna, "Look, O Partha, how Drona's son is making a great effort to kill the son of Prishata, and he will surely succeed."
तं मोचय महाबाहो पार्षतं शत्रुतापनम्। द्रौणेरास्यमनुप्राप्तं मृत्योरास्यगतं यथा ॥८-४२-४१॥

(He, the valiant son of Drona, ascended the chariot, afflicted by the terrible arrows of Dhananjaya. Taking the best bow, he pierced Partha with arrows.)
