nivṛtte bhīmasene ca pāṇḍave ca yudhiṣṭhire। vadhyamāne bale cāpi māmake pāṇḍusṛñjayaiḥ ॥8-44-1॥

द्रवमाणे बलौघे च निराक्रन्दे मुहुर्मुहुः। किमकुर्वन्त कुरवस्तन्ममाचक्ष्व सञ्जय ॥८-४४-२॥

व्यवस्थाप्य महाबाहुस्तव पुत्रस्य वाहिनीम्। प्रत्युद्ययौ तदा कर्णः पाण्डवान्युद्धदुर्मदान् ॥८-४४-५॥

(Then Satyaki pierced him with sharp arrows. And, O great king, he struck the charioteer with only three. Then quickly sent his horses to the abode of Yama with arrows.)

युधामन्युः कृपं विद्ध्वा धनुरस्याशु चिच्छिदे। अथान्यद्धनुरादाय कृपः शस्त्रभृतां वरः ॥८-४४-५०॥

uttamaujāstu hārdikyaṃ śarairbhīmaparākramam। chādayāmāsa sahasā megho vṛṣṭyā yathācalam ॥8-44-52॥
[उत्तमौजाः (uttamaujāḥ) - Uttamaujas; तु (tu) - but; हार्दिक्यम् (hārdikyam) - Hārdikya; शरैः (śaraiḥ) - with arrows; भीमपराक्रमम् (bhīmaparākramam) - of mighty valor; छादयामास (chādayāmāsa) - covered; सहसा (sahasā) - suddenly; मेघः (meghaḥ) - cloud; वृष्ट्या (vṛṣṭyā) - with rain; यथा (yathā) - as; अचलम् (acalam) - a mountain;]
(But Uttamaujas, with arrows, covered Hārdikya of mighty valor suddenly, as a cloud covers a mountain with rain.)

tadyuddhaṃ sumahaccāsīdghorarūpaṃ parantapa। yādṛśaṃ na mayā yuddhaṃ dṛṣṭapūrvaṃ viśāṃ pate ॥8-44-53॥
[तत् (tat) - that; युद्धम् (yuddham) - battle; सुमहत् (sumahat) - very great; आसीत् (āsīt) - was; घोररूपम् (ghorarūpam) - terrible form; परन्तप (parantapa) - O scorcher of foes; यादृशम् (yādṛśam) - like which; न (na) - not; मया (mayā) - by me; युद्धम् (yuddham) - battle; दृष्टपूर्वम् (dṛṣṭapūrvam) - seen before; विशाम् (viśām) - of men; पते (pate) - O lord;]
(That battle was very great and terrible in form, O scorcher of foes, like which battle has not been seen before by me, O lord of men.)

कृतवर्मा ततो राजन्नुत्तमौजसमाहवे। हृदि विव्याध स तदा रथोपस्थ उपाविशत् ॥८-४४-५४॥
