Pancharatra and Core: Arjuna thanks Krishna for his assuring words and then indulges in his own self-boosting, preparing mentally to face Karna.

स केशवस्य बीभत्सुः श्रुत्वा भारत भाषितम्। विशोकः सम्प्रहृष्टश्च क्षणेन समपद्यत ॥८-५२-१॥
sa keśavasya bībhatsuḥ śrutvā bhārata bhāṣitam। viśokaḥ samprahṛṣṭaśca kṣaṇena samapadyata ॥8-52-1॥
[स (sa) - he; केशवस्य (keśavasya) - of Keshava; बीभत्सुः (bībhatsuḥ) - Bibhatsu; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; भारत (bhārata) - O Bharata; भाषितम् (bhāṣitam) - speech; विशोकः (viśokaḥ) - free from sorrow; सम्प्रहृष्टः (samprahṛṣṭaḥ) - delighted; च (ca) - and; क्षणेन (kṣaṇena) - in a moment; समपद्यत (samapadyata) - became.;]
(He, having heard the speech of Keshava, O Bharata, Bibhatsu became free from sorrow and delighted in a moment.)
Upon hearing Keshava's words, Bibhatsu, O Bharata, was instantly relieved of sorrow and filled with joy.
ततो ज्यामनुमृज्याशु व्याक्षिपद्गाण्डिवं धनुः। दध्रे कर्णविनाशाय केशवं चाभ्यभाषत ॥८-५२-२॥
tato jyāmanumṛjyāśu vyākṣipadgāṇḍivaṃ dhanuḥ। dadhre karṇavināśāya keśavaṃ cābhyabhāṣata ॥8-52-2॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; ज्याम् (jyām) - bowstring; अनुमृज्य (anumṛjya) - having cleaned; आशु (āśu) - quickly; व्याक्षिपत् (vyākṣipat) - stretched; गाण्डिवम् (gāṇḍivam) - Gandiva; धनुः (dhanuḥ) - bow; दध्रे (dadhre) - held; कर्ण (karṇa) - Karna; विनाशाय (vināśāya) - for destruction; केशवम् (keśavam) - to Keshava; च (ca) - and; अभ्यभाषत (abhyabhāṣata) - spoke;]
(Then, having quickly cleaned the bowstring, he stretched the Gandiva bow, held it for the destruction of Karna, and spoke to Keshava.)
Then, after swiftly cleaning the bowstring, he stretched the Gandiva bow, prepared it for Karna's destruction, and addressed Keshava.
त्वया नाथेन गोविन्द ध्रुव एष जयो मम। प्रसन्नो यस्य मेऽद्य त्वं भूतभव्यभवत्प्रभुः ॥८-५२-३॥

(By you, O Lord Govinda, this victory of mine is certain. You, who are pleased with me today, are the lord of past, future, and present.)
With you as my protector, O Govinda, my victory is assured. You, who are gracious to me today, are the master of all times: past, present, and future.
त्वत्सहायो ह्यहं कृष्ण त्रीँल्लोकान्वै समागतान्। प्रापयेयं परं लोकं किमु कर्णं महारणे ॥८-५२-४॥
tvatsahāyo hyahaṃ kṛṣṇa trīṁllokān vai samāgatān। prāpayeyaṃ paraṃ lokaṃ kimu karṇaṃ mahāraṇe ॥8-52-4॥
[त्वत् (tvat) - your; सहायः (sahāyaḥ) - helper; हि (hi) - indeed; अहम् (aham) - I; कृष्ण (kṛṣṇa) - Krishna; त्रीँल्लोकान् (trīṁllokān) - three worlds; वै (vai) - indeed; समागतान् (samāgatān) - assembled; प्रापयेयम् (prāpayeyam) - would deliver; परम् (param) - supreme; लोकम् (lokam) - world; किमु (kimu) - what to say of; कर्णम् (karṇam) - Karna; महारणे (mahāraṇe) - in the great battle;]
(With your help, indeed, I, Krishna, would deliver the three assembled worlds to the supreme world; what to say of Karna in the great battle.)
With your assistance, Krishna, I could deliver the three worlds that have assembled to the supreme realm; let alone Karna in the great battle.
पश्यामि द्रवतीं सेनां पाञ्चालानां जनार्दन। पश्यामि कर्णं समरे विचरन्तमभीतवत् ॥८-५२-५॥
paśyāmi dravatīṃ senāṃ pāñcālānāṃ janārdana। paśyāmi karṇaṃ samare vicarantamabhītavat ॥8-52-5॥
[पश्यामि (paśyāmi) - I see; द्रवतीं (dravatīṃ) - fleeing; सेनां (senāṃ) - army; पाञ्चालानां (pāñcālānāṃ) - of the Pāñcālas; जनार्दन (janārdana) - O Janardana; पश्यामि (paśyāmi) - I see; कर्णं (karṇaṃ) - Karna; समरे (samare) - in the battle; विचरन्तमभीतवत् (vicarantamabhītavat) - moving fearlessly;]
(I see the fleeing army of the Pāñcālas, O Janardana. I see Karna moving fearlessly in the battle.)
I observe the Pāñcālas' army retreating, O Janardana, and Karna fearlessly maneuvering in the battlefield.
भार्गवास्त्रं च पश्यामि विचरन्तं समन्ततः। सृष्टं कर्णेन वार्ष्णेय शक्रेणेव महाशनिम् ॥८-५२-६॥
bhārgavāstraṃ ca paśyāmi vicarantaṃ samantataḥ। sṛṣṭaṃ karṇena vārṣṇeya śakreṇeva mahāśanim ॥8-52-6॥

अयं खलु स सङ्ग्रामो यत्र कृष्ण मया कृतम्। कथयिष्यन्ति भूतानि यावद्भूमिर्धरिष्यति ॥८-५२-७॥

[अयम् (ayam) - this; खलु (khalu) - indeed; सः (saḥ) - that; सङ्ग्रामः (saṅgrāmaḥ) - battle; यत्र (yatra) - where; कृष्णः (kṛṣṇaḥ) - Krishna; मया (mayā) - by me; कृतम् (kṛtam) - done; कथयिष्यन्ति (kathayiṣyanti) - will tell; भूतानि (bhūtāni) - beings; यावत् (yāvat) - as long as; भूमिः (bhūmiḥ) - earth; धरिष्यति (dhariṣyati) - will hold;]
(This indeed is the battle where Krishna, by me, was done. Beings will tell as long as the earth will hold.)
This is indeed the battle where Krishna and I fought. Beings will speak of it as long as the earth endures.
अद्य कृष्ण विकर्णा मे कर्णं नेष्यन्ति मृत्यवे। गाण्डीवमुक्ताः क्षिण्वन्तो मम हस्तप्रचोदिताः ॥८-५२-८॥
adya kṛṣṇa vikarṇā me karṇaṃ neṣyanti mṛtyave। gāṇḍīvamuktāḥ kṣiṇvanto mama hastapracoditāḥ ॥8-52-8॥
[अद्य (adya) - today; कृष्ण (kṛṣṇa) - O Krishna; विकर्णाः (vikarṇāḥ) - the sons of Vikarna; मे (me) - my; कर्णम् (karṇam) - Karna; नेष्यन्ति (neṣyanti) - will lead; मृत्यवे (mṛtyave) - to death; गाण्डीवमुक्ताः (gāṇḍīvamuktāḥ) - released from the Gandiva bow; क्षिण्वन्तः (kṣiṇvantaḥ) - destroying; मम (mama) - my; हस्तप्रचोदिताः (hastapracoditāḥ) - driven by my hands;]

(Today, King Dhritarashtra will reflect on his own intelligence by which Duryodhana, unworthy of the kingdom, was anointed in the kingdom.)

(Today, from the kingdom, from happiness, and indeed from prosperity, from the nation, and also from the city, from the sons, and O mighty-armed one, Dhritarashtra will be separated.)

(Today, Duryodhana, the king, will become hopeless from life, with Karna slain. Krishna, I speak the truth to you.)

अद्य दृष्ट्वा मया कर्णं शरैर्विशकलीकृतम्। स्मरतां तव वाक्यानि शमं प्रति जनेश्वरः ॥८-५२-१२॥

अद्यासौ सौबलः कृष्ण ग्लहं जानातु वै शरान्। दुरोदरं च गाण्डीवं मण्डलं च रथं मम ॥८-५२-१३॥

(Those who are like eunuch sesame seeds there will become sesame seeds today. When Vaikartana Karna, the son of a charioteer and a wicked soul, is killed.)
Today, those who are like impotent sesame seeds will indeed become sesame seeds there, as the wicked Karna, the son of a charioteer, is slain.
अहं वः पाण्डुपुत्रेभ्यस्त्रास्यामीति यदब्रवीत्। अनृतं तत्करिष्यन्ति मामका निशिताः शराः ॥८-५२-१७॥
ahaṁ vaḥ pāṇḍuputrebhyastrāsyāmīti yadabravīt। anṛtaṁ tatkariṣyanti māmakā niśitāḥ śarāḥ ॥8-52-17॥
[अहम् (aham) - I; वः (vaḥ) - you; पाण्डुपुत्रेभ्यः (pāṇḍuputrebhyaḥ) - to the sons of Pandu; त्रास्यामि (trāsyāmi) - will cause fear; इति (iti) - thus; यत् (yat) - which; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - he said; अनृतम् (anṛtam) - false; तत् (tat) - that; करिष्यन्ति (kariṣyanti) - will make; मामकाः (māmakāḥ) - my; निशिताः (niśitāḥ) - sharp; शराः (śarāḥ) - arrows;]
(I will cause fear to you, the sons of Pandu, thus he said: My sharp arrows will make that false.)
He declared that he would instill fear in the sons of Pandu. However, my sharp arrows will prove that statement false.
हन्ताहं पाण्डवान्सर्वान्सपुत्रानिति योऽब्रवीत्। तमद्य कर्णं हन्तास्मि मिषतां सर्वधन्विनाम् ॥८-५२-१८॥
hantāhaṃ pāṇḍavānsarvānsaputrāniti yo'bravīt। tamadya karṇaṃ hantāsmi miṣatāṃ sarvadhanvinām ॥8-52-18॥
[हन्ता (hantā) - killer; अहम् (aham) - I; पाण्डवान् (pāṇḍavān) - Pāṇḍavas; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; सपुत्रान् (saputrān) - with sons; इति (iti) - thus; यः (yaḥ) - who; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; तम् (tam) - him; अद्य (adya) - today; कर्णम् (karṇam) - Karṇa; हन्तास्मि (hantāsmi) - I will kill; मिषताम् (miṣatām) - in the presence; सर्वधन्विनाम् (sarvadhanvinām) - of all archers;]
(I am the killer of all the Pāṇḍavas with their sons, thus he said: Today I will kill Karṇa in the presence of all archers.)
