शृणु कौन्तेय रामस्य मया यावत्परिश्रुतम्। महर्षीणां कथयतां कारणं तस्य जन्म च ॥१२-४९-१॥
śṛṇu kaunteya rāmasya mayā yāvatpariśrutam। maharṣīṇāṃ kathayatāṃ kāraṇaṃ tasya janma ca ॥12-49-1॥
[शृणु (śṛṇu) - hear; कौन्तेय (kaunteya) - O son of Kunti; रामस्य (rāmasya) - of Rāma; मया (mayā) - by me; यावत् (yāvat) - as much as; परिश्रुतम् (pariśrutam) - has been heard; महर्षीणाम् (maharṣīṇām) - of the great sages; कथयताम् (kathayatām) - as they narrate; कारणम् (kāraṇam) - cause; तस्य (tasya) - of him; जन्म (janma) - birth; च (ca) - and;]
(Hear, O son of Kunti, as much as has been heard by me of Rāma, as narrated by the great sages, the cause and birth of him.)
O son of Kunti, listen to what I have heard about Rāma, as told by the great sages—the reason and the story of his birth.
यथा च जामदग्न्येन कोटिशः क्षत्रिया हताः। उद्भूता राजवंशेषु ये भूयो भारते हताः ॥१२-४९-२॥
yathā ca jāmadagnyena koṭiśaḥ kṣatriyā hatāḥ। udbhūtā rājavaṃśeṣu ye bhūyo bhārate hatāḥ ॥12-49-2॥
[यथा (yathā) - just as; in the manner; as; in which manner; च (ca) - and; जामदग्न्येन (jāmadagnyena) - by Jāmadagnya (Paraśurāma); कोटिशः (koṭiśaḥ) - in crores; by the crore; क्षत्रियाः (kṣatriyāḥ) - Kṣatriyas; warriors; हताः (hatāḥ) - were slain; killed; उद्भूता (udbhūtā) - arisen; born; राजवंशेषु (rājavaṃśeṣu) - in royal dynasties; ये (ye) - who; भूयः (bhūyaḥ) - again; भारते (bhārate) - in Bhārata (India); हताः (hatāḥ) - were slain; killed;]
(Just as, and, by Jāmadagnya, in crores, Kṣatriyas, were slain; arisen, in royal dynasties, who, again, in Bhārata, were slain.)
Just as Jāmadagnya (Paraśurāma) slew crores of Kṣatriyas, those who were born again in royal dynasties in Bhārata were again slain.
जह्नोरजह्नुस्तनयो बल्लवस्तस्य चात्मजः। कुशिको नाम धर्मज्ञस्तस्य पुत्रो महीपतिः ॥१२-४९-३॥
jahnorajahnustanayo ballavastasya cātmajaḥ। kuśiko nāma dharmajñastasya putro mahīpatiḥ ॥12-49-3॥
[जह्नोः (jahnoḥ) - of Jahnu; अजह्नुः (ajahnuḥ) - Ajahnu; तनयः (tanayaḥ) - son; बल्लवः (ballavaḥ) - Ballava; तस्य (tasya) - his; च (ca) - and; आत्मजः (ātmajaḥ) - son; कुशिकः (kuśikaḥ) - Kuśika; नाम (nāma) - by name; धर्मज्ञः (dharmajñaḥ) - knower of dharma; तस्य (tasya) - his; पुत्रः (putraḥ) - son; महीपतिः (mahīpatiḥ) - king;]
(Of Jahnu, Ajahnu (was) the son; Ballava (was) his son and Kuśika by name, knower of dharma, (was) his son, the king.)
Ajahnu was the son of Jahnu; Ballava was his son, and Kuśika, known as a knower of dharma, was his son, the king.
उग्रं तपः समातिष्ठत्सहस्राक्षसमो भुवि। पुत्रं लभेयमजितं त्रिलोकेश्वरमित्युत ॥१२-४९-४॥
ugraṃ tapaḥ samātiṣṭhatsahasrākṣasamo bhuvi। putraṃ labheyamajitaṃ trilokeśvaramityuta ॥12-49-4॥
[उग्रं (ugram) - intense; तपः (tapaḥ) - austerity; समातिष्ठत् (samātiṣṭhat) - undertook; सहस्राक्षसमः (sahasrākṣasamaḥ) - equal to Indra; भुवि (bhuvi) - on earth; पुत्रं (putram) - son; लभेयम् (labheyam) - may I obtain; अजितम् (ajitam) - unconquered; त्रिलोकेश्वरम् (trilokeśvaram) - lord of the three worlds; इति (iti) - thus; उत (uta) - indeed;]
(Intense austerity he undertook, equal to Indra on earth. A son may I obtain, unconquered, lord of the three worlds, thus indeed.)
He performed intense austerities on earth, equal to Indra, desiring to obtain a son who would be unconquered and the lord of the three worlds, thus indeed.
तमुग्रतपसं दृष्ट्वा सहस्राक्षः पुरंदरः। समर्थः पुत्रजनने स्वयमेवैत्य भारत ॥१२-४९-५॥
tamugratapasaṃ dṛṣṭvā sahasrākṣaḥ puraṃdaraḥ। samarthaḥ putrajanane svayamevaitya bhārata ॥12-49-5॥
[तम् (tam) - him; उग्रतपसं (ugratapasaṃ) - having severe austerity; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; सहस्राक्षः (sahasrākṣaḥ) - the thousand-eyed; पुरंदरः (puraṃdaraḥ) - Purandara (Indra); समर्थः (samarthaḥ) - capable; पुत्रजनने (putrajanane) - in producing a son; स्वयम् (svayam) - himself; एव (eva) - indeed; इत्य (ity) - having gone; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata;]
(Having seen him engaged in severe austerity, the thousand-eyed Purandara (Indra), himself capable in producing a son, indeed went, O Bhārata.)
O Bhārata, seeing him performing severe austerities, Indra, the thousand-eyed Purandara, himself, capable of granting a son, went there.
पुत्रत्वमगमद्राजंस्तस्य लोकेश्वरेश्वरः। गाधिर्नामाभवत्पुत्रः कौशिकः पाकशासनः ॥१२-४९-६॥
putratvam agamad rājaṃs tasya lokeśvareśvaraḥ। gādhir nāmābhavat putraḥ kauśikaḥ pākaśāsanaḥ ॥12-49-6॥
[पुत्रत्वम् (putratvam) - state of being a son; अगमत् (agamat) - attained; राजन् (rājan) - O king; तस्य (tasya) - his; लोकेश्वर-ईश्वरः (lokeśvara-īśvaraḥ) - the lord of lords of the world; गाधिः (gādhiḥ) - Gādhi; नाम (nāma) - by name; अभवत् (abhavat) - became; पुत्रः (putraḥ) - son; कौशिकः (kauśikaḥ) - Kauśika; पाकशासनः (pākaśāsanaḥ) - Indra (slayer of Pāka);]
(O king, the lord of lords of the world attained the state of being a son; Gādhi by name became his son, Kauśika, Indra (slayer of Pāka).)

तस्य कन्याभवद्राजन्नाम्ना सत्यवती प्रभो। तां गाधिः कविपुत्राय सोर्चीकाय ददौ प्रभुः ॥१२-४९-७॥
tasya kanyābhavad rājannāmnā satyavatī prabho। tāṃ gādhiḥ kaviputrāya so ṛcīkāya dadau prabhuḥ ॥12-49-7॥
[तस्य (tasya) - of him; कन्या (kanyā) - daughter; अभवत् (abhavat) - became; राजन् (rājan) - O king; नाम्ना (nāmnā) - by name; सत्यवती (satyavatī) - Satyavati; प्रभो (prabho) - O lord; ताम् (tām) - her; गाधिः (gādhiḥ) - Gadhi; कविपुत्राय (kaviputrāya) - to the son of the sage; सः (saḥ) - he; ऋचीकाय (ṛcīkāya) - to Rcika; ददौ (dadau) - gave; प्रभुः (prabhuḥ) - the lord;]
(Of him, a daughter was born, O king, by name Satyavati, O lord. Her, Gadhi gave to the son of the sage, to Rcika, he (the lord) gave.)
O king, he had a daughter named Satyavati, O lord. Gadhi gave her to Rcika, the son of the sage.
ततः प्रीतस्तु कौन्तेय भार्गवः कुरुनन्दन। पुत्रार्थे श्रपयामास चरुं गाधेस्तथैव च ॥१२-४९-८॥
tataḥ prītastu kaunteya bhārgavaḥ kurunandana। putrārthe śrapayāmāsa caruṃ gādhe-stathaiva ca ॥12-49-8॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; प्रीतः (prītaḥ) - pleased; तु (tu) - but; कौन्तेय (kaunteya) - O son of Kunti; भार्गवः (bhārgavaḥ) - the descendant of Bhṛgu; कुरुनन्दन (kurunandana) - O delight of the Kurus; पुत्रार्थे (putrārthe) - for the sake of a son; श्रपयामास (śrapayāmāsa) - caused to be offered; चरुं (caruṃ) - sacrificial oblation; गाधेः (gādheḥ) - of Gādhi; तथैव (tathaiva) - in the same way; च (ca) - and;]
(Then, pleased but, O son of Kunti, the descendant of Bhṛgu, O delight of the Kurus, for the sake of a son, caused to be offered the sacrificial oblation of Gādhi, in the same way and.)
Then, O son of Kunti, O delight of the Kurus, the descendant of Bhṛgu, being pleased, caused the sacrificial oblation of Gādhi to be offered for the sake of a son, in the same way.
आहूय चाह तां भार्यामृचीको भार्गवस्तदा। उपयोज्यश्चरुरयं त्वया मात्राप्ययं तव ॥१२-४९-९॥
āhūya ca aha tāṃ bhāryām ṛcīkaḥ bhārgavaḥ tadā। upayojyaḥ ca arur ayam tvayā mātrā api ayam tava ॥12-49-9॥
[आहूय (āhūya) - having called; च (ca) - and; अह (aha) - said; तां (tāṃ) - her; भार्याम् (bhāryām) - wife; ऋचीकः (ṛcīkaḥ) - Ṛcīka; भार्गवः (bhārgavaḥ) - descendant of Bhṛgu; तदा (tadā) - then; उपयोज्यः (upayojyaḥ) - to be administered; च (ca) - and; अरुः (aruḥ) - offering; अयम् (ayam) - this; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; मात्रा (mātrā) - by (your) mother; अपि (api) - also; अयम् (ayam) - this; तव (tava) - your;]
(Having called and said to her wife, Ṛcīka, the descendant of Bhṛgu, then (said): "This offering is to be administered by you, and this (other) by your mother also.")
Ṛcīka, the Bhārgava, having called his wife, said: "This offering should be administered by you, and this one by your mother as well."
तस्या जनिष्यते पुत्रो दीप्तिमान्क्षत्रियर्षभः। अजय्यः क्षत्रियैर्लोके क्षत्रियर्षभसूदनः ॥१२-४९-१०॥
tasyā janiṣyate putro dīptimān kṣatriyarṣabhaḥ। ajayyaḥ kṣatriyair loke kṣatriyarṣabhasūdanaḥ ॥12-49-10॥
[तस्या (tasyā) - of her; जनिष्यते (janiṣyate) - will be born; पुत्रः (putraḥ) - son; दीप्तिमान् (dīptimān) - brilliant; क्षत्रियर्षभः (kṣatriyarṣabhaḥ) - bull among kṣatriyas; अजय्यः (ajayyaḥ) - invincible; क्षत्रियैः (kṣatriyaiḥ) - by kṣatriyas; लोके (loke) - in the world; क्षत्रियर्षभसूदनः (kṣatriyarṣabhasūdanaḥ) - destroyer of the bull among kṣatriyas;]
(Of her will be born a son, brilliant, a bull among kṣatriyas; invincible by kṣatriyas in the world, destroyer of the bull among kṣatriyas.)
A brilliant son will be born to her, a foremost among kṣatriyas; he will be invincible to kṣatriyas in the world, and will be the destroyer of the foremost among kṣatriyas.
तवापि पुत्रं कल्याणि धृतिमन्तं तपोन्वितम्। शमात्मकं द्विजश्रेष्ठं चरुरेष विधास्यति ॥१२-४९-११॥
tavāpi putraṃ kalyāṇi dhṛtimantaṃ taponvitam। śamātmakaṃ dvijaśreṣṭhaṃ carureṣa vidhāsyati ॥12-49-11॥
[तवापि (tavāpi) - your also; पुत्रं (putraṃ) - son; कल्याणि (kalyāṇi) - O auspicious one; धृतिमन्तं (dhṛtimantam) - steadfast; तपोन्वितम् (taponvitam) - endowed with austerity; शमात्मकं (śamātmakaṃ) - of tranquil nature; द्विजश्रेष्ठं (dvijaśreṣṭham) - best among the twice-born; चरुः (caruḥ) - oblation; एष (eṣa) - this; विधास्यति (vidhāsyati) - will offer;]
(Your also son, O auspicious one, steadfast, endowed with austerity, of tranquil nature, best among the twice-born, this oblation will offer.)
O auspicious one, your son, who is steadfast, endowed with austerity, tranquil in nature, and the best among the twice-born, will offer this oblation.
इत्येवमुक्त्वा तां भार्यामृचीको भृगुनन्दनः। तपस्यभिरतो धीमाञ्जगामारण्यमेव ह ॥१२-४९-१२॥
ityevamuktvā tāṃ bhāryām ṛcīko bhṛgunandanaḥ। tapasyabhirato dhīmāñ jagāmāraṇyameva ha ॥12-49-12॥
[इति (iti) - thus; एवम् (evam) - in this manner; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having spoken; ताम् (tām) - her; भार्याम् (bhāryām) - wife; ऋचीकः (ṛcīkaḥ) - Ṛcīka; भृगुनन्दनः (bhṛgunandanaḥ) - descendant of Bhṛgu; तपस्य (tapasy) - in austerities; अभिरतः (abhirataḥ) - engaged; धीमान् (dhīmān) - wise; जगाम (jagāma) - went; अरण्यम् (araṇyam) - to the forest; एव (eva) - indeed; ह (ha) - certainly;]
(Thus, having spoken in this manner to his wife, Ṛcīka, the descendant of Bhṛgu, wise and engaged in austerities, indeed went to the forest.)
Having thus spoken to his wife, Ṛcīka, the wise descendant of Bhṛgu, devoted to austerities, certainly went to the forest.
एतस्मिन्नेव काले तु तीर्थयात्रापरो नृपः। गाधिः सदारः सम्प्राप्त ऋचीकस्याश्रमं प्रति ॥१२-४९-१३॥
etasminneva kāle tu tīrthayātrāparo nṛpaḥ। gādhiḥ sadāraḥ samprāpta ṛcīkasya āśramaṃ prati ॥12-49-13॥
[एतस्मिन् (etasmin) - in this; एव (eva) - indeed; काले (kāle) - time; तु (tu) - but; तीर्थयात्रापरः (tīrthayātrāparaḥ) - engaged in pilgrimage; नृपः (nṛpaḥ) - king; गाधिः (gādhiḥ) - Gādhi; सदारः (sadāraḥ) - with wife; सम्प्राप्त (samprāpta) - arrived; ऋचीकस्य (ṛcīkasya) - of Ṛcīka; आश्रमं (āśramaṃ) - hermitage; प्रति (prati) - towards;]
(But at this very time, the king Gādhi, engaged in pilgrimage, with his wife, arrived at the hermitage of Ṛcīka.)

चरुद्वयं गृहीत्वा तु राजन्सत्यवती तदा। भर्तुर्वाक्यादथाव्यग्रा मात्रे हृष्टा न्यवेदयत् ॥१२-४९-१४॥
carudvayaṃ gṛhītvā tu rājan satyavatī tadā। bhartur vākyād athāvyagrā mātre hṛṣṭā nyavedayat ॥12-49-14॥
[चरुद्वयं (carudvayam) - two offerings; गृहीत्वा (gṛhītvā) - having taken; तु (tu) - but; राजन् (rājan) - O king; सत्यवती (satyavatī) - Satyavati; तदा (tadā) - then; भर्तुः (bhartuḥ) - of her husband; वाक्यात् (vākyāt) - from the words; अथ (atha) - then; अव्यग्रा (avyagrā) - unagitated; मात्रे (mātre) - to (her) mother; हृष्टा (hṛṣṭā) - joyful; न्यवेदयत् (nyavedayat) - she reported;]
(Having taken the two offerings, but then, O king, Satyavati, from her husband's words, then unagitated, joyful, reported to her mother.)
O king, Satyavati, taking the two offerings as instructed by her husband, calmly and joyfully reported it to her mother.
माता तु तस्याः कौन्तेय दुहित्रे स्वं चरुं ददौ। तस्याश्चरुमथाज्ञातमात्मसंस्थं चकार ह ॥१२-४९-१५॥
mātā tu tasyāḥ kaunteya duhitre svaṃ caruṃ dadau। tasyāś carum athājñātam ātmasaṃsthaṃ cakāra ha ॥12-49-15॥
[माता (mātā) - mother; तु (tu) - but; तस्याः (tasyāḥ) - her; कौन्तेय (kaunteya) - O son of Kunti; दुहित्रे (duhitre) - to (her) daughter; स्वं (svaṃ) - her own; चरुं (caruṃ) - sacrificial oblation; ददौ (dadau) - gave; तस्याः (tasyāḥ) - her; चरुम् (carum) - oblation; अथ (atha) - then; अज्ञातम् (ajñātam) - unknown; आत्मसंस्थं (ātmasaṃstham) - placed in herself; चकार (cakāra) - did; ह (ha) - indeed;]
(Mother but her, O son of Kunti, to (her) daughter, her own oblation gave. Her oblation then unknown, placed in herself, did indeed.)
But the mother, O son of Kunti, gave her own oblation to her daughter. Then she made that oblation, unknown to others, established in herself.
अथ सत्यवती गर्भं क्षत्रियान्तकरं तदा। धारयामास दीप्तेन वपुषा घोरदर्शनम् ॥१२-४९-१६॥
atha satyavatī garbhaṃ kṣatriyāntakaraṃ tadā। dhārayāmāsa dīptena vapuṣā ghoradarśanam ॥12-49-16॥
[अथ (atha) - then; सत्यवती (satyavatī) - Satyavati; गर्भं (garbhaṃ) - embryo; क्षत्रियान्तकरं (kṣatriyāntakaram) - destroyer of Kṣatriyas; तदा (tadā) - at that time; धारयामास (dhārayāmāsa) - bore; दीप्तेन (dīptena) - brilliant; वपुषा (vapuṣā) - with form; घोरदर्शनम् (ghoradarśanam) - terrible to behold;]
(Then Satyavati at that time bore the embryo, the destroyer of Kṣatriyas, with a brilliant and terrible-to-behold form.)
Then Satyavati bore the embryo, who was destined to destroy the Kṣatriyas, and whose form was brilliant and terrifying to behold.
तामृचीकस्तदा दृष्ट्वा ध्यानयोगेन वै ततः। अब्रवीद्राजशार्दूल स्वां भार्यां वरवर्णिनीम् ॥१२-४९-१७॥
tām ṛcīkas tadā dṛṣṭvā dhyānayogena vai tataḥ। abravīd rājaśārdūla svāṃ bhāryāṃ varavarṇinīm ॥12-49-17॥
[ताम् (tām) - her; ऋचीकः (ṛcīkaḥ) - Ṛcīka; तदा (tadā) - then; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; ध्यानयोगेन (dhyānayogena) - by means of meditation-yoga; वै (vai) - indeed; ततः (tataḥ) - thereupon; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; राजशार्दूल (rājaśārdūla) - O tiger among kings; स्वाम् (svām) - his own; भार्याम् (bhāryām) - wife; वरवर्णिनीम् (varavarṇinīm) - of excellent complexion;]
(Her, Ṛcīka then having seen by means of meditation-yoga indeed thereupon said, O tiger among kings, his own wife of excellent complexion.)
Ṛcīka, having seen her through meditation, then said to his own wife of excellent complexion, "O tiger among kings."
मात्रासि व्यंसिता भद्रे चरुव्यत्यासहेतुना। जनिष्यते हि ते पुत्रः क्रूरकर्मा महाबलः ॥१२-४९-१८॥
mātrāsi vyaṃsitā bhadre caruvyatyāsahetunā। janiṣyate hi te putraḥ krūrakarmā mahābalaḥ ॥12-49-18॥
[मात्रा (mātrā) - by the mother; असि (asi) - you are; व्यंसिता (vyaṃsitā) - deformed; भद्रे (bhadre) - O auspicious one; चरु (caru) - offering; व्यत्यास (vyatyāsa) - exchange; हेतुना (hetunā) - by the cause; जनिष्यते (janiṣyate) - will be born; हि (hi) - indeed; ते (te) - your; पुत्रः (putraḥ) - son; क्रूरकर्मा (krūrakarmā) - of cruel deeds; महाबलः (mahābalaḥ) - of great strength;]
(By the mother you are deformed, O auspicious one, by the cause of the exchange of the offering; indeed, your son of cruel deeds and great strength will be born.)
O auspicious one, because you have been deformed by your mother due to the exchange of the offering, indeed, a son of great strength and cruel deeds will be born to you.
जनिष्यते हि ते भ्राता ब्रह्मभूतस्तपोधनः। विश्वं हि ब्रह्म तपसा मया तत्र समर्पितम् ॥१२-४९-१९॥
janiṣyate hi te bhrātā brahmabhūta tapodhanaḥ। viśvaṃ hi brahma tapasā mayā tatra samarpitam ॥12-49-19॥
[जनिष्यते (janiṣyate) - will be born; हि (hi) - indeed; ते (te) - your; भ्राता (bhrātā) - brother; ब्रह्मभूतः (brahmabhūtaḥ) - having become Brahman; तपोधनः (tapodhanaḥ) - rich in austerity; विश्वम् (viśvam) - the universe; हि (hi) - indeed; ब्रह्म (brahma) - Brahman; तपसा (tapasā) - by austerity; मया (mayā) - by me; तत्र (tatra) - there; समर्पितम् (samarpitam) - has been offered;]
(Your brother, indeed, will be born, having become Brahman, rich in austerity. Indeed, the universe, Brahman, by austerity, by me, there, has been offered.)
Indeed, your brother, endowed with austerity and having attained the state of Brahman, will be born. Truly, the entire universe as Brahman has been offered there by me through austerity.
सैवमुक्ता महाभागा भर्त्रा सत्यवती तदा। पपात शिरसा तस्मै वेपन्ती चाब्रवीदिदम् ॥१२-४९-२०॥
saivamuktā mahābhāgā bhartrā satyavatī tadā। papāta śirasā tasmai vepantī cābravīdidam ॥12-49-20॥
[सा (sā) - she; एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्ता (uktā) - addressed; महाभागा (mahābhāgā) - greatly fortunate; भर्त्रा (bhartrā) - by her husband; सत्यवती (satyavatī) - Satyavati; तदा (tadā) - then; पपात (papāta) - fell; शिरसा (śirasā) - with (her) head; तस्मै (tasmai) - to him; वेपन्ती (vepantī) - trembling; च (ca) - and; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; इदम् (idam) - this;]
(She, thus addressed, the greatly fortunate Satyavati, by her husband, then fell with her head to him, trembling, and said this.)
Thus addressed by her husband, the greatly fortunate Satyavati then fell at his feet, trembling, and said this.
नार्होऽसि भगवन्नद्य वक्तुमेवंविधं वचः। ब्राह्मणापसदं पुत्रं प्राप्स्यसीति महामुने ॥१२-४९-२१॥
nārho'si bhagavannadya vaktumevaṃvidhaṃ vacaḥ। brāhmaṇāpasadaṃ putraṃ prāpsyasīti mahāmune ॥12-49-21॥

eteṣāṃ pitaraś caiva tathaiva ca pitāmahāḥ। madarthaṃ nihatā yuddhe rāmeṇākliṣṭakarmaṇā ॥12-49-76॥

[एवं (evaṃ) - thus; ब्रुवन् (bruvan) - speaking; एव (eva) - indeed; यदुप्रवीरः (yadupravīraḥ) - the foremost of the Yadus; युधिष्ठिरम् (yudhiṣṭhiram) - Yudhishthira; धर्मभृताम् (dharmabhṛtām) - of the upholders of dharma; वरिष्ठम् (variṣṭham) - the most eminent; रथेन (rathena) - by the chariot; तेन (tena) - by that; आशु (āśu) - swiftly; ययौ (yayau) - he went; यथा (yathā) - as; अर्कः (arkaḥ) - the sun; विशन् (viśan) - entering; प्रभाभिः (prabhābhiḥ) - with rays; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the Blessed Lord; त्रिलोकम् (trilokam) - the three worlds;]
(Thus, indeed speaking, the foremost of the Yadus, to Yudhishthira, the most eminent of the upholders of dharma, by that chariot swiftly went, as the sun, entering with rays, the Blessed Lord, the three worlds.)
Thus speaking, the foremost of the Yadus swiftly departed in that chariot to Yudhishthira, the most eminent among the upholders of dharma, just as the Blessed Lord, like the sun, enters the three worlds with his rays.
