विद्वान्मूर्खप्रगल्भेन मृदुस्तीक्ष्णेन भारत। आक्रुश्यमानः सदसि कथं कुर्यादरिंदम ॥१२-११५-१॥
vidvān mūrkha-pragalbhena mṛdu-stīkṣṇena bhārata। ākruśyamānaḥ sadasi kathaṃ kuryād ariṃdama ॥12-115-1॥

(O Bhārata, how should a wise person, being reviled in the assembly by an impudent fool or by a gentle-severe person, act, O subduer of foes?)
O Bhārata, when a wise person is insulted in the assembly by an arrogant fool or by someone who is gentle yet harsh, how should he respond, O subduer of enemies?

श्रूयतां पृथिवीपाल यथैषोऽर्थोऽनुगीयते। सदा सुचेताः सहते नरस्येहाल्पचेतसः ॥१२-११५-२॥
śrūyatāṃ pṛthivīpāla yathaiṣo'rtho'nugīyate। sadā sucetāḥ sahate narasyehālpacetasaḥ ॥12-115-2॥
[श्रूयताम् (śrūyatām) - let it be heard; पृथिवीपाल (pṛthivīpāla) - O protector of the earth; यथा (yathā) - as; एषः (eṣaḥ) - this; अर्थः (arthaḥ) - meaning; अनुगीयते (anugīyate) - is sung after; सदा (sadā) - always; सुचेताः (sucetāḥ) - the wise; सहते (sahate) - endures; नरस्य (narasya) - of a man; इह (iha) - here; अल्पचेतसः (alpacetasaḥ) - of little understanding;]
(Let it be heard, O protector of the earth, as this meaning is sung after. Always, the wise endures here the (results) of a man of little understanding.)
O king, listen as this meaning is recited: The wise always endures here the consequences of a man of little understanding.
अरुष्यन्क्रुश्यमानस्य सुकृतं नाम विन्दति। दुष्कृतं चात्मनो मर्षी रुष्यत्येवापमार्ष्टि वै ॥१२-११५-३॥
aruṣyan kruśyamānasya sukṛtaṃ nāma vindati। duṣkṛtaṃ cātmanaḥ marṣī ruṣyaty evāpamārṣṭi vai ॥12-115-3॥
[अरुष्यन् (aruṣyan) - not becoming angry; क्रुश्यमानस्य (kruśyamānasya) - of one being tormented; सुकृतं (sukṛtam) - good deed; नाम (nāma) - indeed; विन्दति (vindati) - finds; दुष्कृतं (duṣkṛtam) - bad deed; च (ca) - and; आत्मनः (ātmanaḥ) - of oneself; मर्षी (marṣī) - the patient one; रुष्यति (ruṣyati) - becomes angry; एव (eva) - indeed; अपमार्ष्टि (apamārṣṭi) - removes; वै (vai) - indeed;]
(Not becoming angry, one who is being tormented indeed finds good deeds; and the patient one, even if he becomes angry at his own bad deed, indeed removes it.)
One who does not become angry while being tormented attains merit; and even if a patient person becomes angry at his own misdeed, he indeed removes it.
टिट्टिभं तमुपेक्षेत वाशमानमिवातुरम्। लोकविद्वेषमापन्नो निष्फलं प्रतिपद्यते ॥१२-११५-४॥
ṭiṭṭibhaṃ tam upekṣeta vāśamānam ivāturam। lokavidveṣam āpanno niṣphalaṃ pratipadyate ॥12-115-4॥
[टिट्टिभम् (ṭiṭṭibham) - lapwing; (a type of bird); तम् (tam) - him; (that one); उपेक्षेत (upekṣeta) - should disregard; (should neglect); वाशमानम् (vāśamānam) - crying out; (uttering sound); इव (iva) - like; (as if); आतुरम् (āturam) - distressed; (afflicted); लोकविद्वेषम् (lokavidveṣam) - enmity of people; (hatred by the world); आपन्नः (āpannaḥ) - having obtained; (having fallen into); निष्फलम् (niṣphalam) - fruitless; (without result); प्रतिपद्यते (pratipadyate) - attains; (obtains);]
(One should disregard him like a lapwing crying out in distress; having obtained the enmity of people, one attains fruitlessness.)
One who is hated by the world, like a distressed lapwing crying out, is ignored and achieves nothing fruitful.
इति स श्लाघते नित्यं तेन पापेन कर्मणा। इदमुक्तो मया कश्चित्संमतो जनसंसदि ॥ स तत्र व्रीडितः शुष्को मृतकल्पोऽवतिष्ठति ॥१२-११५-५॥
iti sa ślāghate nityaṃ tena pāpena karmaṇā। idamukto mayā kaścit saṃmato janasaṃsadi ॥ sa tatra vrīḍitaḥ śuṣko mṛtakalpo'vatiṣṭhati ॥12-115-5॥
[इति (iti) - thus; सः (saḥ) - he; श्लाघते (ślāghate) - praises; नित्यं (nityaṃ) - always; तेन (tena) - by that; पापेन (pāpena) - by the sinful; कर्मणा (karmaṇā) - by action; इदम् (idam) - this; उक्तः (uktaḥ) - spoken; मया (mayā) - by me; कश्चित् (kaścit) - someone; संमतः (saṃmataḥ) - approved; जनसंसदि (janasaṃsadi) - in the assembly of people; सः (saḥ) - he; तत्र (tatra) - there; व्रीडितः (vrīḍitaḥ) - ashamed; शुष्कः (śuṣkaḥ) - dried up; मृतकल्पः (mṛtakalpaḥ) - like dead; अवतिष्ठति (avatiṣṭhati) - remains;]
(Thus he always praises by that sinful action. This was spoken by me, someone approved in the assembly of people. He there, ashamed, dried up, like dead, remains.)
Thus he always boasts of that sinful deed. This was said by me, someone respected in the public assembly. There, he stands, ashamed, dried up, as if dead.
श्लाघन्नश्लाघनीयेन कर्मणा निरपत्रपः। उपेक्षितव्यो दान्तेन तादृशः पुरुषाधमः ॥१२-११५-६॥
ślāghannaślāghanīyena karmaṇā nirapatrapaḥ। upekṣitavyo dāntena tādṛśaḥ puruṣādhamaḥ ॥12-115-6॥
[श्लाघन् (ślāghan) - praising; अश्लाघनीयेन (aślāghanīyena) - by what is not to be praised; कर्मणा (karmaṇā) - by action; निरपत्रपः (nirapatrapaḥ) - shameless; उपेक्षितव्यः (upekṣitavyaḥ) - to be disregarded; दान्तेन (dāntena) - by the self-restrained; तादृशः (tādṛśaḥ) - such; पुरुषाधमः (puruṣādhamaḥ) - the lowest of men;]
(Praising by what is not to be praised, by action, shameless; to be disregarded by the self-restrained, such the lowest of men.)
A shameless person who praises himself for actions that are not worthy of praise is to be disregarded by the self-restrained; such a one is the lowest among men.
यद्यद्ब्रूयादल्पमतिस्तत्तदस्य सहेत्सदा। प्राकृतो हि प्रशंसन्वा निन्दन्वा किं करिष्यति ॥ वने काक इवाबुद्धिर्वाशमानो निरर्थकम् ॥१२-११५-७॥
yadyad brūyād alpamatiḥ tat-tad asya sahet sadā। prākṛtaḥ hi praśaṁsan vā nindan vā kiṁ kariṣyati॥ vane kāka iva abuddhiḥ vā āśamānaḥ nirarthakam॥ 12-115-7॥
[यद्यत् (yadyat) - whatever; ब्रूयात् (brūyāt) - might say; अल्पमतिः (alpamatiḥ) - one of little intellect; तत्तत् (tattat) - that (very) thing; अस्य (asya) - of him; सहेत् (sahet) - should endure; सदा (sadā) - always; प्राकृतः (prākṛtaḥ) - an ordinary person; हि (hi) - indeed; प्रशंसन् (praśaṁsan) - praising; वा (vā) - or; निन्दन् (nindan) - criticizing; वा (vā) - or; किम् (kim) - what; करिष्यति (kariṣyati) - will do; वने (vane) - in the forest; काकः (kākaḥ) - a crow; इव (iva) - like; अबुद्धिः (abuddhiḥ) - one without understanding; वा (vā) - or; आशमानः (āśamānaḥ) - hoping; निरर्थकम् (nirarthakam) - uselessly;]
(Whatever a person of little intellect might say, that very thing of his should always be endured. For what will an ordinary person, whether praising or criticizing, do? In the forest, a crow, or one without understanding, or one hoping, acts uselessly.)
Whatever a person of little intellect says should always be tolerated; for what can an ordinary person, whether he praises or criticizes, actually do? In the forest, a crow, or a fool, or one who merely hopes, acts to no purpose.
यदि वाग्भिः प्रयोगः स्यात्प्रयोगे पापकर्मणः। वागेवार्थो भवेत्तस्य न ह्येवार्थो जिघांसतः ॥१२-११५-८॥
yadi vāgbhiḥ prayogaḥ syāt prayoge pāpakarmaṇaḥ। vāgevārtho bhavettasya na hy evārtho jighāṁsataḥ॥12-115-8॥
[यदि (yadi) - if; वाग्भिः (vāgbhiḥ) - by words; प्रयोगः (prayogaḥ) - application; स्यात् (syāt) - would be; प्रयोगे (prayoge) - in application; पापकर्मणः (pāpakarmaṇaḥ) - of one who does evil deeds; वागेव (vāg-eva) - word only; अर्थः (arthaḥ) - meaning; भवेत् (bhavet) - would be; तस्य (tasya) - of him; न (na) - not; हि (hi) - indeed; एव (eva) - only; अर्थः (arthaḥ) - meaning; जिघांसतः (jighāṁsataḥ) - of one who desires to harm;]
(If there would be application by words, in the application of one who does evil deeds, the meaning would be only of the word for him; indeed, there is not the meaning for one who desires to harm.)
If words are used by one who acts with evil intent, then for him, the meaning is only in the words; truly, there is no real meaning for one who seeks to harm.
निषेकं विपरीतं स आचष्टे वृत्तचेष्टया। मयूर इव कौपीनं नृत्यन्संदर्शयन्निव ॥१२-११५-९॥
niṣekaṃ viparītaṃ sa ācaṣṭe vṛttaceṣṭayā। mayūra iva kaupīnaṃ nṛtyansandarśayanniva ॥12-115-9॥
[निषेकम् (niṣekam) - emission; (of semen); विपरीतम् (viparītam) - reverse; contrary; सः (saḥ) - he; आचष्टे (ācaṣṭe) - describes; speaks; वृत्तचेष्टया (vṛttaceṣṭayā) - with circular movement; मयूरः (mayūraḥ) - peacock; इव (iva) - like; as if; कौपीनम् (kaupīnam) - loincloth; नृत्यन् (nṛtyan) - dancing; संदर्शयन् (sandarśayan) - showing; displaying; इव (iva) - as if; like;]

[यस्य (yasya) - of whom; अवाच्यम् (avācyam) - unspeakable; न (na) - not; लोके (loke) - in the world; अस्ति (asti) - exists; न (na) - not; अकार्यं (akāryam) - improper act; वा (vā) - or; अपि (api) - even; किञ्चन (kiñcana) - anything; वाचम् (vācam) - speech; तेन (tena) - by him; न (na) - not; संदध्यात् (saṃdadhyāt) - should utter; शुचिः (śuciḥ) - a pure person; सङ्क्लिष्टकर्मणा (saṅkliṣṭakarmaṇā) - with impure actions;]
(Of whom there is nothing unspeakable nor any improper act in the world, such a pure person should not utter speech with impure actions.)
A pure person, for whom there is nothing unspeakable or improper in the world, should not speak words with impure actions.
प्रत्यक्षं गुणवादी यः परोक्षं तु विनिन्दकः। स मानवः श्ववल्लोके नष्टलोकपरायणः ॥१२-११५-११॥
pratyakṣaṃ guṇavādī yaḥ parokṣaṃ tu vinindakāḥ। sa mānavaḥ śvavalloke naṣṭalokaparāyaṇaḥ ॥12-115-11॥
[प्रत्यक्षं (pratyakṣam) - directly; गुणवादी (guṇavādī) - one who speaks of virtues; यः (yaḥ) - who; परोक्षं (parokṣam) - indirectly; तु (tu) - but; विनिन्दकः (vinindakāḥ) - criticizer; स (sa) - he; मानवः (mānavaḥ) - man; श्ववल्लोके (śvavalloke) - in the world of dogs; नष्टलोकपरायणः (naṣṭalokaparāyaṇaḥ) - one whose devotion to the world is lost;]
(He who speaks of virtues directly, but criticizes indirectly, that man, in the world of dogs, is one whose devotion to the world is lost.)
A person who praises virtues to one's face but criticizes behind the back is, in the world of men, like one whose connection to society is lost, akin to living among dogs.
तादृग्जनशतस्यापि यद्ददाति जुहोति च। परोक्षेणापवादेन तन्नाशयति स क्षणात् ॥१२-११५-१२॥
tādṛg-jana-śatasya-api yad dadāti juhoti ca| parokṣeṇa-apavādena tat nāśayati sa kṣaṇāt ॥12-115-12॥
[तादृक् (tādṛk) - such; जन (jana) - person; शतस्य (śatasya) - of a hundred; अपि (api) - even; यत् (yat) - which; ददाति (dadāti) - gives; जुहोति (juhoti) - offers (sacrificially); च (ca) - and; परोक्षेण (parokṣeṇa) - by secrecy; अपवादेन (apavādena) - by slander; तत् (tat) - that; नाशयति (nāśayati) - destroys; सः (saḥ) - he; क्षणात् (kṣaṇāt) - in an instant;]
(Even of such a hundred persons, whatever he gives and offers, by secrecy and by slander, he destroys that in an instant.)
Whatever a person of such kind gives or offers, even if it is to a hundred people, if he destroys it by secrecy and slander, he loses it instantly.
तस्मात्प्राज्ञो नरः सद्यस्तादृशं पापचेतसम्। वर्जयेत्साधुभिर्वर्ज्यं सारमेयामिषं यथा ॥१२-११५-१३॥
tasmāt prājño naraḥ sadyas tādṛśaṃ pāpacetasam। varjayet sādhubhir varjyaṃ sārameyāmiṣaṃ yathā ॥12-115-13॥
[तस्मात् (tasmāt) - therefore; प्राज्ञः (prājñaḥ) - wise man; नरः (naraḥ) - man; सद्यः (sadyaḥ) - immediately; तादृशम् (tādṛśam) - such; पापचेतसम् (pāpacetasam) - of evil-minded; वर्जयेत् (varjayet) - should avoid; साधुभिः (sādhubhiḥ) - by the virtuous; वर्ज्यम् (varjyam) - to be avoided; सारमेयामिषम् (sārameyāmiṣam) - dog's flesh; यथा (yathā) - just as;]
(Therefore, a wise man should immediately avoid such an evil-minded person, just as the virtuous avoid dog’s flesh.)
Therefore, a wise person should at once shun someone of such evil mind, just as the virtuous avoid dog’s flesh.
परिवादं ब्रुवाणो हि दुरात्मा वै महात्मने। प्रकाशयति दोषान्स्वान्सर्पः फणमिवोच्छ्रितम् ॥१२-११५-१४॥
parivādaṃ bruvāṇo hi durātmā vai mahātmane। prakāśayati doṣān svān sarpaḥ phaṇam iva ucchritam ॥12-115-14॥
[परिवादं (parivādam) - slander; ब्रुवाणः (bruvāṇaḥ) - speaking; हि (hi) - indeed; दुरात्मा (durātmā) - wicked-souled; वै (vai) - truly; महात्मने (mahātmane) - to the great-souled; प्रकाशयति (prakāśayati) - reveals; दोषान् (doṣān) - faults; स्वान् (svān) - his own; सर्पः (sarpaḥ) - serpent; फणम् (phaṇam) - hood; इव (iva) - like; उच्छ्रितम् (ucchritam) - raised;]
(Indeed, the wicked-souled, speaking slander to the great-souled, reveals his own faults, like a serpent its raised hood.)
When a wicked person slanders a great soul, he only reveals his own faults, just as a serpent displays its raised hood.
तं स्वकर्माणि कुर्वाणं प्रतिकर्तुं य इच्छति। भस्मकूट इवाबुद्धिः खरो रजसि मज्जति ॥१२-११५-१५॥
taṃ svakarmāṇi kurvāṇaṃ pratikartuṃ ya icchati। bhasmakūṭa ivābuddhiḥ kharo rajasi majjati ॥12-115-15॥
[तं (taṃ) - him; स्वकर्माणि (svakarmāṇi) - one's own actions; कुर्वाणं (kurvāṇam) - doing; प्रतिकर्तुं (pratikartum) - to counteract; यः (yaḥ) - who; इच्छति (icchati) - desires; भस्मकूट (bhasmakūṭa) - heap of ashes; इव (iva) - like; अबुद्धिः (abuddhiḥ) - unintelligent; खरः (kharaḥ) - donkey; रजसि (rajasi) - in dust; मज्जति (majjati) - sinks;]
(He who desires to counteract him who is performing his own actions, like an unintelligent donkey sinks in dust, sinks like a heap of ashes.)
One who wishes to oppose a person engaged in his own duties, like a foolish donkey, sinks in the dust just as a heap of ashes does.
मनुष्यशालावृकमप्रशान्तं; जनापवादे सततं निविष्टम्। मातङ्गमुन्मत्तमिवोन्नदन्तं; त्यजेत तं श्वानमिवातिरौद्रम् ॥१२-११५-१६॥
manuṣyaśālā-vṛkam-apraśāntam; janāpavāde satataṃ niviṣṭam। mātaṅgam-unmattam-iva-un-nadantam; tyajet taṃ śvānam-iva-atiraudram ॥12-115-16॥
[मनुष्यशाला (manuṣyaśālā) - human dwelling; वृकम् (vṛkam) - wolf; अप्रशान्तं (apraśāntam) - not pacified; जन (jana) - people; अपवादे (apavāde) - in slander; सततम् (satatam) - always; निविष्टम् (niviṣṭam) - settled; मातङ्गम् (mātaṅgam) - elephant; उन्मत्तम् (unmattam) - mad; इव (iva) - like; उन्नदन्तम् (un-nadantam) - roaring; त्यजेत् (tyajet) - should abandon; तम् (tam) - him; श्वानम् (śvānam) - dog; इव (iva) - like; अतिरौद्रम् (atiraudram) - very fierce;]
(A wolf not pacified in a human dwelling, always settled in the slander of people, an elephant mad and roaring—one should abandon him like a very fierce dog.)
One should abandon a person who, like a wolf in a human dwelling, is never at peace, who is always involved in slandering people, and who, like a mad elephant, roars uncontrollably—just as one would abandon a very fierce dog.
अधीरजुष्टे पथि वर्तमानं; दमादपेतं विनयाच्च पापम्। अरिव्रतं नित्यमभूतिकामं; धिगस्तु तं पापमतिं मनुष्यम् ॥१२-११५-१७॥
adhīrajuṣṭe pathi vartamānaṃ; damādapetaṃ vinayācca pāpam। arivrataṃ nityamabhūtikāmaṃ; dhigastu taṃ pāpamatim manuṣyam ॥12-115-17॥
[अधीरजुष्टे (adhīrajuṣṭe) - joined with the unsteady; पथि (pathi) - on the path; वर्तमानं (vartamānam) - existing; दमात् (damāt) - from self-restraint; अपेतं (apetaṃ) - departed; विनयात् (vinayāt) - from humility; च (ca) - and; पापम् (pāpam) - evil; अरिव्रतं (arivrataṃ) - having the conduct of an enemy; नित्यम् (nityam) - always; अभूतिकामं (abhūtikāmaṃ) - desiring misfortune; धिक् (dhik) - condemnation; अस्तु (astu) - let there be; तं (taṃ) - that; पापमतिं (pāpamatiṃ) - evil-minded; मनुष्यम् (manuṣyam) - man;]
(Existing on the path joined with the unsteady, evil departed from self-restraint and from humility; always having the conduct of an enemy, desiring misfortune; let there be condemnation for that evil-minded man.)
Let there be condemnation for that evil-minded man who, existing on the path joined with the unsteady, has evil departed from self-restraint and humility, always has the conduct of an enemy, and desires misfortune.
प्रत्युच्यमानस्तु हि भूय एभिर्निशाम्य मा भूस्त्वमथार्तरूपः। उच्चस्य नीचेन हि सम्प्रयोगं विगर्हयन्ति स्थिरबुद्धयो ये ॥१२-११५-१८॥
pratyucyamānas tu hi bhūya ebhir niśāmya mā bhūs tvam athārta-rūpaḥ। uccasya nīcena hi samprayogaṃ vigarhayanti sthira-buddhayo ye॥12-115-18॥
[प्रत्युच्यमानः (pratyucyamānaḥ) - being addressed in return; तु (tu) - but; हि (hi) - indeed; भूयः (bhūyaḥ) - again; एभिः (ebhiḥ) - by these; निशाम्य (niśāmya) - having heard; मा (mā) - do not; भूः (bhūḥ) - be; त्वम् (tvam) - you; अथ (atha) - then; अर्तरूपः (arta-rūpaḥ) - in the form of distress; उच्चस्य (uccasya) - of the high; नीचेन (nīcena) - with the low; हि (hi) - indeed; सम्प्रयोगं (samprayogam) - association; विगर्हयन्ति (vigarhayanti) - they censure; स्थिरबुद्धयः (sthira-buddhayaḥ) - those of steady intellect; ये (ye) - who;]
(Being addressed in return, but indeed again by these, having heard, do not be you then in the form of distress. The association of the high with the low, indeed, those of steady intellect who censure.)
But when you are addressed again by these, do not become distressed. Those of steady intellect censure the association of the high with the low.
क्रुद्धो दशार्धेन हि ताडयेद्वा; स पांसुभिर्वापकिरेत्तुषैर्वा। विवृत्य दन्तांश्च विभीषयेद्वा; सिद्धं हि मूर्खे कुपिते नृशंसे ॥१२-११५-१९॥
kruddho daśārdhena hi tāḍayed vā; sa pāṃsubhir vāpakirettuṣair vā. vivṛtya dantāṃś ca vibhīṣayed vā; siddhaṃ hi mūrkhe kupite nṛśaṃse ॥12-115-19॥
[क्रुद्धः (kruddhaḥ) - angry; दशार्धेन (daśārdhena) - with a tenth part; हि (hi) - indeed; ताडयेत् (tāḍayet) - should strike; वा (vā) - or; सः (saḥ) - he; पांसुभिः (pāṃsubhiḥ) - with dust; वा (vā) - or; अपकिरेत् (apakiret) - should sprinkle; तुषैः (tuṣaiḥ) - with husks; वा (vā) - or; विवृत्य (vivṛtya) - having opened; दन्तान् (dantān) - teeth; च (ca) - and; विभीषयेत् (vibhīṣayet) - should terrify; वा (vā) - or; सिद्धम् (siddham) - accomplished; हि (hi) - indeed; मूर्खे (mūrkhe) - with a fool; कुपिते (kupite) - when enraged; नृशंसे (nṛśaṃse) - with a cruel person;]
(Angry, with a tenth part indeed should strike or; he with dust or should sprinkle with husks or; having opened teeth and should terrify or; accomplished indeed with a fool, when enraged, with a cruel person.)
If angry, one may strike with a tenth part, or sprinkle with dust or husks, or terrify by baring the teeth; indeed, this is effective with a fool who is enraged and cruel.
विगर्हणां परमदुरात्मना कृतां; सहेत यः संसदि दुर्जनान्नरः। पठेदिदं चापि निदर्शनं सदा; न वाङ्मयं स लभति किञ्चिदप्रियम् ॥१२-११५-२०॥
vigarhaṇāṃ paramadurātmanā kṛtāṃ; saheta yaḥ saṃsadi durjanān naraḥ। paṭhed idaṃ cāpi nidarśanaṃ sadā; na vāṅmayaṃ sa labhati kiñcid apriyam ॥12-115-20॥
[विगर्हणाम् (vigarhaṇām) - reproach; परमदुरात्मना (paramadurātmanā) - by a most wicked person; कृताम् (kṛtām) - done; सहेत (saheta) - endures; यः (yaḥ) - who; संसदि (saṃsadi) - in an assembly; दुर्जनात् (durjanāt) - from a wicked person; नरः (naraḥ) - man; पठेत् (paṭhet) - recites; इदं (idaṃ) - this; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; निदर्शनम् (nidarśanam) - example; सदा (sadā) - always; न (na) - not; वाङ्मयम् (vāṅmayam) - speech; सः (saḥ) - he; लभति (labhati) - obtains; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - any; अप्रियम् (apriyam) - unpleasant;]
(A man who endures reproach done by a most wicked person in an assembly, and always recites this example also, he does not obtain any unpleasant speech.)
Whoever, in an assembly, endures reproach inflicted by a most wicked person, and always recites this example, never receives any unpleasant speech.
