Kṛṣṇa said.
मूर्ध्ना निपत्य नियतस्तेजःसंनिचये ततः। परमं हर्षमागम्य भगवन्तमथाब्रुवम् ॥१३-१६-१॥
mūrdhnā nipatya niyataḥ tejaḥ-saṃnicaye tataḥ। paramaṃ harṣam āgamya bhagavantam athābruvam ॥13-16-1॥
[मूर्ध्ना (mūrdhnā) - with the head; (ablative of mūrdhan, head); निपत्य (nipatya) - having bowed down; (absolutive of ni-√pat, to fall down); नियतः (niyataḥ) - controlled; (past participle of ni-√yam, to restrain); तेजःसंनिचये (tejaḥ-saṃnicaye) - in the mass of brilliance; (locative of tejas, brilliance + saṃnicaya, collection); ततः (tataḥ) - then; (ablative of tat, that); परमं (paramaṃ) - supreme; (accusative of parama, highest); हर्षम् (harṣam) - joy; (accusative of harṣa, joy); आगम्य (āgamya) - having attained; (absolutive of ā-√gam, to come to); भगवन्तम् (bhagavantam) - the Blessed One; (accusative of bhagavat, blessed, venerable); अथ (atha) - then; (indeclinable); अब्रुवम् (abravam) - I spoke; (1st person singular aorist of √brū, to speak);]
(With the head having bowed down, controlled, in the mass of brilliance, then, supreme joy having attained, the Blessed One then I spoke.)
Having bowed my head in the mass of brilliance, with self-control, and having attained supreme joy, I then spoke to the Blessed One. (13-16-1)
धर्मे दृढत्वं युधि शत्रुघातं; यशस्तथाग्र्यं परमं बलं च। योगप्रियत्वं तव संनिकर्षं; वृणे सुतानां च शतं शतानि ॥१३-१६-२॥
dharme dṛḍhatvaṃ yudhi śatrughātaṃ; yaśas tathāgryaṃ paramaṃ balaṃ ca. yogapriyattvaṃ tava saṃnikarṣaṃ; vṛṇe sutānāṃ ca śataṃ śatāni ॥13-16-2॥
[धर्मे (dharme) - in dharma; दृढत्वं (dṛḍhatvaṃ) - firmness; युधि (yudhi) - in battle; शत्रुघातं (śatrughātaṃ) - slaying of enemies; यशः (yaśaḥ) - fame; तथा (tathā) - and also; अग्र्यं (agryaṃ) - excellent; परमं (paramaṃ) - supreme; बलं (balaṃ) - strength; च (ca) - and; योगप्रियत्वं (yogapriyattvaṃ) - fondness for union; तव (tava) - your; सन्निकर्षं (saṃnikarṣaṃ) - closeness; वृणे (vṛṇe) - I choose; सुतानां (sutānāṃ) - of sons; च (ca) - and; शतं (śataṃ) - a hundred; शतानि (śatāni) - hundreds;]
(In dharma, firmness; in battle, slaying of enemies; fame and also excellence, supreme strength and; fondness for union, your closeness; I choose, of sons and a hundred, hundreds.)
I choose firmness in dharma, the slaying of enemies in battle, fame and supreme strength, fondness for union, your closeness, and hundreds upon hundreds of sons. (13-16-2)
एवमस्त्विति तद्वाक्यं मयोक्तः प्राह शङ्करः। ततो मां जगतो माता धरणी सर्वपावनी। उवाचोमा प्रणिहिता शर्वाणी तपसां निधिः ॥१३-१६-४॥
evam astv iti tad vākyam mayoktaḥ prāha śaṅkaraḥ। tato māṃ jagato mātā dharaṇī sarvapāvanī। uvāco mā praṇihitā śarvāṇī tapasāṃ nidhiḥ ॥13-16-4॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; अस्तु (astu) - let it be; इति (iti) - so; thus; तत् (tat) - that; वाक्यम् (vākyam) - statement; मया (mayā) - by me; उक्तः (uktaḥ) - spoken; प्राह (prāha) - said; शङ्करः (śaṅkaraḥ) - Śaṅkara; ततः (tataḥ) - then; माम् (mām) - me; जगतः (jagataḥ) - of the world; माता (mātā) - mother; धरणी (dharaṇī) - Earth; सर्वपावनी (sarvapāvanī) - all-purifying; उवाच (uvāca) - said; उमा (umā) - Umā; प्रणिहिता (praṇihitā) - attentive; शर्वाणी (śarvāṇī) - consort of Śarva (Śiva); तपसाम् (tapasām) - of austerities; निधिः (nidhiḥ) - treasure;]
(Thus let it be, so that statement spoken by me Śaṅkara said. Then to me, the mother of the world, Earth, all-purifying, said; Umā, attentive, Śarvāṇī, treasure of austerities.)
Śaṅkara said, "So be it," to that statement spoken by me. Then the mother of the world, the all-purifying Earth, spoke to me; Umā, the attentive consort of Śiva, the treasure of austerities. (13-16-4)
दत्तो भगवता पुत्रः साम्बो नाम तवानघ। मत्तोऽप्यष्टौ वरानिष्टान्गृहाण त्वं ददामि ते ॥ प्रणम्य शिरसा सा च मयोक्ता पाण्डुनन्दन ॥१३-१६-५॥
datto bhagavatā putraḥ sāmbho nāma tavānagha। matto'py aṣṭau varāniṣṭān gṛhāṇa tvaṃ dadāmi te ॥ praṇamya śirasā sā ca mayoktā pāṇḍunandana ॥13-16-5॥
[दत्तः (dattaḥ) - given; भगवता (bhagavatā) - by the blessed one; पुत्रः (putraḥ) - son; साम्बः (sāmbhaḥ) - Sāmba; नाम (nāma) - named; तव (tava) - your; अनघ (anagha) - O sinless one; मत्तः (mattaḥ) - from me; अपि (api) - also; अष्टौ (aṣṭau) - eight; वरान् (varān) - boons; इष्टान् (iṣṭān) - desired; गृहाण (gṛhāṇa) - accept; त्वम् (tvam) - you; ददामि (dadāmi) - I give; ते (te) - to you; प्रणम्य (praṇamya) - having bowed; शिरसा (śirasā) - with (her) head; सा (sā) - she; च (ca) - and; मया (mayā) - by me; उक्ता (uktā) - addressed; पाण्डुनन्दन (pāṇḍunandana) - O descendant of Pāṇḍu;]
(Given by the blessed one, a son Sāmba named, your O sinless one. From me also eight desired boons accept you, I give to you. Having bowed with (her) head, she and by me addressed, O descendant of Pāṇḍu. (13-16-5))
O sinless one, the blessed one has given you a son named Sāmba. Also, accept from me eight desired boons that I grant you. Having bowed her head, she was addressed by me, O descendant of Pāṇḍu. (13-16-5)
द्विजेष्वकोपं पितृतः प्रसादं; शतं सुतानामुपभोगं परं च। कुले प्रीतिं मातृतश्च प्रसादं; शमप्राप्तिं प्रवृणे चापि दाक्ष्यम् ॥१३-१६-६॥
dvijeṣvakopaṃ pitṛtaḥ prasādaṃ; śataṃ sutānāmupabhogaṃ paraṃ ca। kule prītiṃ mātṛtaśca prasādaṃ; śamaprāptiṃ pravṛṇe cāpi dākṣyam ॥13-16-6॥
[द्विजेषु (dvijeṣu) - in twice-borns; अकोपं (akopaṃ) - absence of anger; पितृतः (pitṛtaḥ) - from father; प्रसादं (prasādaṃ) - grace; शतं (śataṃ) - hundred; सुतानाम् (sutānām) - of sons; उपभोगं (upabhogaṃ) - enjoyment; परं (paraṃ) - supreme; च (ca) - and; कुले (kule) - in family; प्रीतिं (prītiṃ) - affection; मातृतः (mātṛtaḥ) - from mother; च (ca) - and; प्रसादं (prasādaṃ) - grace; शमप्राप्तिं (śamaprāptiṃ) - attainment of tranquility; प्रवृणे (pravṛṇe) - I choose; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; दाक्ष्यम् (dākṣyam) - skill;]
(In twice-borns, absence of anger; from father, grace; hundred of sons, enjoyment, supreme and; in family, affection; from mother, and, grace; attainment of tranquility, I choose, and also, skill. (13-16-6))
I choose absence of anger among the twice-born, grace from the father, the supreme enjoyment of a hundred sons, affection in the family, grace from the mother, attainment of tranquility, and also skill. (13-16-6)

The goddess said.
एवं भविष्यत्यमरप्रभाव; नाहं मृषा जातु वदे कदाचित्। भार्यासहस्राणि च षोडशैव; तासु प्रियत्वं च तथाक्षयत्वम् ॥१३-१६-७॥
evaṃ bhaviṣyaty amaraprabhāva; nāhaṃ mṛṣā jātu vade kadācit. bhāryāsahasrāṇi ca ṣoḍaśaiva; tāsu priyatvaṃ ca tathākṣayatvam ॥13-16-7॥
[एवं (evaṃ) - thus; भविष्यति (bhaviṣyati) - will be; अमरप्रभाव (amaraprabhāva) - immortal-power; न (na) - not; अहम् (aham) - I; मृषा (mṛṣā) - falsehood; जातु (jātu) - ever; वदे (vade) - speak; कदाचित् (kadācit) - at any time; भार्यासहस्राणि (bhāryāsahasrāṇi) - wife-thousands; च (ca) - and; षोडश (ṣoḍaśa) - sixteen; एव (eva) - indeed; तासु (tāsu) - among them; प्रियत्वं (priyatvaṃ) - dearness; च (ca) - and; तथा (tathā) - also; अक्षयत्वम् (akṣayatvam) - imperishability;]
(Thus it will be, immortal-power; not I falsehood ever speak at any time. Wife-thousands and sixteen indeed; among them dearness and also imperishability. (13-16-7))
Thus it shall be by the power of the immortals; I never speak falsehood at any time. There will be sixteen thousand wives, and among them, dearness and imperishability. (13-16-7)
प्रीतिं चाग्र्यां बान्धवानां सकाशा; द्ददामि ते वपुषः काम्यतां च। भोक्ष्यन्ते वै सप्ततिर्वै शतानि; गृहे तुभ्यमतिथीनां च नित्यम् ॥१३-१६-८॥
prītiṃ cāgryāṃ bāndhavānāṃ sakāśā; ddadāmi te vapuṣaḥ kāmyatāṃ ca. bhokṣyante vai saptatirvai śatāni; gṛhe tubhyamatithīnāṃ ca nityam ॥13-16-8॥
[प्रीतिं (prītiṃ) - affection; च (ca) - and; आग्र्यां (āgryāṃ) - supreme; बान्धवानां (bāndhavānāṃ) - of relatives; सकाशात् (sakāśāt) - from the presence; ददामि (dadāmi) - I give; ते (te) - to you; वपुषः (vapuṣaḥ) - of the body; काम्यतां (kāmyatāṃ) - desirability; च (ca) - and; भोक्ष्यन्ते (bhokṣyante) - will enjoy; वै (vai) - indeed; सप्ततिः (saptatiḥ) - seventy; वै (vai) - indeed; शतानि (śatāni) - hundreds; गृहे (gṛhe) - in the house; तुभ्यम् (tubhyam) - for you; अतिथीनां (atithīnām) - of guests; च (ca) - and; नित्यम् (nityam) - always;]
(Affection and supreme (affection) of relatives from the presence I give to you, and desirability of the body. Seventy hundreds indeed will enjoy in the house for you of guests and always.)
I grant you affection and the highest regard from your relatives, as well as desirability of form. Seventy hundred guests will always enjoy in your house. (13-16-8)
वासुदेव उवाच॥
vāsudeva uvāca॥
[वासुदेव (vāsudeva) - Vāsudeva; उवाच (uvāca) - said;]

Vāsudeva said.
एवं दत्त्वा वरान्देवो मम देवी च भारत। अन्तर्हितः क्षणे तस्मिन्सगणो भीमपूर्वज ॥१३-१६-९॥
evaṃ dattvā varān devo mama devī ca bhārata। antarhitaḥ kṣaṇe tasmin sagaṇo bhīmapūrvaja ॥13-16-9॥
[एवं (evaṃ) - thus; दत्त्वा (dattvā) - having given; वरान् (varān) - boons; देवः (devaḥ) - the god; मम (mama) - my; देवी (devī) - goddess; च (ca) - and; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata; अन्तर्हितः (antarhitaḥ) - disappeared; क्षणे (kṣaṇe) - in a moment; तस्मिन् (tasmin) - in that; सगणः (sagaṇaḥ) - with his attendants; भीमपूर्वजः (bhīmapūrvajaḥ) - the elder brother of Bhīma;]
(Thus having given the boons, the god, my goddess also, O Bhārata, disappeared in that moment with his attendants, the elder brother of Bhīma.)
O Bhārata, thus, after granting the boons, the god and my goddess disappeared in that very moment along with his attendants, the elder brother of Bhīma. (13-16-9)
एतदत्यद्भुतं सर्वं ब्राह्मणायातितेजसे। उपमन्यवे मया कृत्स्नमाख्यातं कौरवोत्तम ॥१३-१६-१०॥
etad atyadbhutaṃ sarvaṃ brāhmaṇāyātitejase। upamanyave mayā kṛtsnam ākhyātaṃ kauravottama ॥13-16-10॥
[एतत् (etat) - this; अत्यद्भुतं (atyadbhutam) - very wonderful; सर्वं (sarvam) - all; ब्राह्मणाय (brāhmaṇāya) - to the brāhmaṇa; अतितेजसे (atitejase) - of great brilliance; उपमन्यवे (upamanyave) - to Upamanyu; मया (mayā) - by me; कृत्स्नम् (kṛtsnam) - entirely; आख्यातम् (ākhyātam) - has been told; कौरवोत्तम (kauravottama) - O best of the Kauravas;]
(This very wonderful all to the brāhmaṇa of great brilliance, to Upamanyu, by me entirely has been told, O best of the Kauravas.)
O best of the Kauravas, I have told all this very wonderful account to the brāhmaṇa of great brilliance, Upamanyu. (13-16-10)
नमस्कृत्वा तु स प्राह देवदेवाय सुव्रत। नास्ति शर्वसमो दाने नास्ति शर्वसमो रणे ॥ नास्ति शर्वसमो देवो नास्ति शर्वसमा गतिः ॥१३-१६-११॥
namaskṛtvā tu sa prāha devadevāya suvrata। nāsti śarvasamo dāne nāsti śarvasamo raṇe ॥ nāsti śarvasamo devo nāsti śarvasamā gatiḥ ॥13-16-11॥
[नमस्कृत्वा (namaskṛtvā) - having bowed; तु (tu) - but; स (sa) - he; प्राह (prāha) - said; देवदेवाय (devadevāya) - to the god of gods; सुव्रत (suvrata) - O virtuous one; नास्ति (nāsti) - there is not; शर्वसमः (śarvasamaḥ) - equal to Śarva (Śiva); दाने (dāne) - in giving; नास्ति (nāsti) - there is not; शर्वसमः (śarvasamaḥ) - equal to Śarva (Śiva); रणे (raṇe) - in battle; नास्ति (nāsti) - there is not; शर्वसमः (śarvasamaḥ) - equal to Śarva (Śiva); देवः (devaḥ) - god; नास्ति (nāsti) - there is not; शर्वसमा (śarvasamā) - equal to Śarva (Śiva); गतिः (gatiḥ) - refuge;]
(Having bowed, but he said to the god of gods, O virtuous one, there is not equal to Śarva in giving, there is not equal to Śarva in battle. There is not god equal to Śarva, there is not refuge equal to Śarva. (13-16-11))
After bowing, he spoke to the god of gods, "O virtuous one, there is none equal to Śarva (Śiva) in giving, none equal to Śarva in battle. There is no god equal to Śarva, nor any refuge equal to Śarva." (13-16-11)
ऋषिरासीत्कृते तात तण्डिरित्येव विश्रुतः। दश वर्षसहस्राणि तेन देवः समाधिना ॥ आराधितोऽभूद्भक्तेन तस्योदर्कं निशामय ॥१३-१६-१२॥
ṛṣir āsīt kṛte tāta taṇḍir ityeva viśrutaḥ। daśa varṣasahasrāṇi tena devaḥ samādhinā ॥ ārādhito'bhūd bhaktena tasyodarkaṃ niśāmaya ॥13-16-12॥
[ऋषिः (ṛṣiḥ) - sage; आसीत् (āsīt) - was; कृते (kṛte) - in the Kṛta (Satya) Yuga; तात (tāta) - O dear one; तण्डिः (taṇḍiḥ) - Taṇḍi (name); इति (iti) - thus; एव (eva) - indeed; विश्रुतः (viśrutaḥ) - well-known; दश (daśa) - ten; वर्ष (varṣa) - years; सहस्राणि (sahasrāṇi) - thousands; तेन (tena) - by him; देवः (devaḥ) - the god; समाधिना (samādhinā) - by meditation; आराधितः (ārādhitaḥ) - worshipped; अभूत् (abhūt) - became; भक्तेन (bhaktena) - by the devotee; तस्य (tasya) - his; उदर्कं (udarkaṃ) - result; निशामय (niśāmaya) - observe;]
(The sage was in the Kṛta Yuga, O dear one, indeed well-known as Taṇḍi thus. For ten thousand years, by him, the god was worshipped by meditation. By the devotee, he became worshipped. Observe his result.)
O dear one, in the Kṛta Yuga, the sage known as Taṇḍi was renowned. For ten thousand years, he worshipped the god through meditation. See the result of his devotion. (13-16-12)
स दृष्टवान्महादेवमस्तौषीच्च स्तवैर्विभुम्। पवित्राणां पवित्रस्त्वं गतिर्गतिमतां वर ॥ अत्युग्रं तेजसां तेजस्तपसां परमं तपः ॥१३-१६-१३॥
sa dṛṣṭavān mahādevam astauṣīc ca stavair vibhum। pavitrāṇāṃ pavitras tvaṃ gatir gatimatāṃ vara॥ atyugraṃ tejasāṃ tejas tapasāṃ paramaṃ tapaḥ॥13-16-13॥
[स (sa) - he; दृष्टवान् (dṛṣṭavān) - having seen; महादेवम् (mahādevam) - Mahadeva; अस्तौषीत् (astauṣīt) - praised; च (ca) - and; स्तवैः (stavaiḥ) - with hymns; विभुम् (vibhum) - the all-pervading; पवित्राणां (pavitrāṇām) - of the pure; पवित्रः (pavitraḥ) - the purest; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; गतिः (gatiḥ) - the goal; गतिमताम् (gatimatām) - of those who have a goal; वर (vara) - the best; अत्युग्रं (atyugram) - most intense; तेजसाम् (tejasām) - of energies; तेजः (tejaḥ) - the energy; तपसाम् (tapasām) - of austerities; परमं (paramam) - supreme; तपः (tapaḥ) - austerity;]
(He, having seen Mahadeva, praised and with hymns the all-pervading. Of the pure, you are the purest, the goal, the best of those who have a goal. Most intense of energies, the energy, of austerities, the supreme austerity. (13-16-13))
Having seen Mahadeva, he praised the all-pervading Lord with hymns. You are the purest among the pure, the supreme goal, the best among those who seek the goal. You are the most intense energy among energies, the supreme austerity among austerities. (13-16-13)
विश्वावसुहिरण्याक्षपुरुहूतनमस्कृत। भूरिकल्याणद विभो पुरुसत्य नमोऽस्तु ते ॥१३-१६-१४॥
viśvāvasuhiraṇyākṣapuruhūtanamaskṛta। bhūrikalyāṇada vibho purusatya namo'stu te ॥13-16-14॥
[विश्वावसु (viśvāvasu) - Viśvāvasu; (name of a celestial musician); हिरण्याक्ष (hiraṇyākṣa) - Hiraṇyākṣa; (name of a demon); पुरुहूत (puruhūta) - Indra; (literally: much-invoked); नमस्कृत (namaskṛta) - saluted; भूरि (bhūri) - abundant; कल्याणद (kalyāṇada) - giver of auspiciousness; विभो (vibho) - O Lord; पुरुसत्य (purusatya) - truly among men; नमः (namaḥ) - salutation; अस्तु (astu) - let it be; ते (te) - to you;]
(Viśvāvasu, Hiraṇyākṣa, Indra saluted; abundant giver of auspiciousness, O Lord, truly among men, salutation let it be to you;)
Saluted by Viśvāvasu, Hiraṇyākṣa, and Indra, O Lord, bestower of abundant auspiciousness, truly among men, my salutations be to you. (13-16-14)
जातीमरणभीरूणां यतीनां यततां विभो। निर्वाणद सहस्रांशो नमस्तेऽस्तु सुखाश्रय ॥१३-१६-१५॥
jātīmaraṇabhīrūṇāṃ yatīnām yatatāṃ vibho। nirvāṇada sahasrāṃśo namaste'stu sukhāśraya ॥13-16-15॥
[जाती (jāti) - birth; मरण (maraṇa) - death; भीरूणां (bhīrūṇām) - of the fearful; यतीनां (yatīnām) - of ascetics; यततां (yatatām) - of those striving; विभो (vibho) - O Lord; निर्वाणद (nirvāṇada) - giver of liberation; सहस्रांशो (sahasrāṃśa) - thousand-rayed; नमः (namaḥ) - salutation; ते (te) - to you; अस्तु (astu) - may it be; सुखाश्रय (sukhāśraya) - abode of happiness;]
(Of those fearful of birth and death, of ascetics, of those striving, O Lord, giver of liberation, thousand-rayed, salutation to you, may it be, abode of happiness.)
O Lord, who is the thousand-rayed giver of liberation, the refuge of happiness, to you salutations from the ascetics and those striving who fear birth and death. May it be so. (13-16-15)
ब्रह्मा शतक्रतुर्विष्णुर्विश्वेदेवा महर्षयः। न विदुस्त्वां तु तत्त्वेन कुतो वेत्स्यामहे वयम् ॥१३-१६-१६॥
brahmā śatakraturviṣṇurviśvedevā maharṣayaḥ। na vidustvāṃ tu tattvena kuto vetsyāmahe vayam ॥13-16-16॥
[ब्रह्मा (brahmā) - Brahmā; शतक्रतु: (śatakratuḥ) - Indra; विष्णु: (viṣṇuḥ) - Viṣṇu; विश्वेदेवा (viśvedevā) - all the gods; महर्षयः (maharṣayaḥ) - great sages; न (na) - not; विदु: (viduḥ) - know; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; तु (tu) - but; तत्त्वेन (tattvena) - in reality; कुत: (kutaḥ) - how; वेत्स्यामहे (vetsyāmahe) - could we know; वयम् (vayam) - we;]
(Brahmā, Indra, Viṣṇu, all the gods, great sages, not know you but in reality; how could we know we.)
Brahmā, Indra, Viṣṇu, all the gods, and the great sages do not know you in reality; so how could we possibly know you? (13-16-16)
त्वत्तः प्रवर्तते कालस्त्वयि कालश्च लीयते। कालाख्यः पुरुषाख्यश्च ब्रह्माख्यश्च त्वमेव हि ॥१३-१६-१७॥
tvattaḥ pravartate kālas tvayi kālaś ca līyate। kālākhyaḥ puruṣākhyaś ca brahmākhyaś ca tvam eva hi ॥13-16-17॥
[त्वत्तः (tvattaḥ) - from you; प्रवर्तते (pravartate) - proceeds; कालः (kālaḥ) - time; त्वयि (tvayi) - in you; कालः (kālaḥ) - time; च (ca) - and; लीयते (līyate) - merges; कालाख्यः (kālākhyaḥ) - named time; पुरुषाख्यः (puruṣākhyaḥ) - named puruṣa; च (ca) - and; ब्रह्माख्यः (brahmākhyaḥ) - named brahma; च (ca) - and; त्वम् (tvam) - you; एव (eva) - indeed; हि (hi) - certainly;]
(From you proceeds time; in you time also merges; named time, named puruṣa, and named brahma, you indeed certainly.)
Time originates from you and merges back into you; you are indeed called Time, Puruṣa, and Brahma. (13-16-17)
तनवस्ते स्मृतास्तिस्रः पुराणज्ञैः सुरर्षिभिः। अधिपौरुषमध्यात्ममधिभूताधिदैवतम् ॥ अधिलोक्याधिविज्ञानमधियज्ञस्त्वमेव हि ॥१३-१६-१८॥
tanavas te smṛtās tisraḥ purāṇajñaiḥ surarṣibhiḥ। adhipauruṣamadhyātmam adhibhūtādhidaivatam ॥ adhilokyādhivijñānam adhiyajñas tvam eva hi ॥13-16-18॥

(Your forms are remembered as three by those who know the Purāṇas and by divine sages: relating to the supreme person, relating to the self, relating to beings, relating to the gods, relating to the worlds, relating to knowledge, relating to sacrifice; you indeed certainly.)
Your forms are remembered as three by the knowers of the Purāṇas and by divine sages: as the supreme person, the self, the beings, the gods, the worlds, knowledge, and sacrifice; you alone are indeed all these. (13-16-18)
त्वां विदित्वात्मदेहस्थं दुर्विदं दैवतैरपि। विद्वांसो यान्ति निर्मुक्ताः परं भावमनामयम् ॥१३-१६-१९॥
tvāṃ viditvātmadehasthaṃ durvidaṃ daivatairapi। vidvāṃso yānti nirmuktāḥ paraṃ bhāvamanāmayam ॥13-16-19॥

(Having known you, situated in the body as the self, difficult to know even by the gods, the wise, liberated, go to the supreme state free from affliction.)
The wise, having realized you as the self within the body—who are difficult even for the gods to know—become liberated and attain the supreme, untroubled state. (13-16-19)
अनिच्छतस्तव विभो जन्ममृत्युरनेकतः। द्वारं त्वं स्वर्गमोक्षाणामाक्षेप्ता त्वं ददासि च ॥१३-१६-२०॥
anicchatas tava vibho janma-mṛtyur anekataḥ। dvāraṃ tvaṃ svarga-mokṣāṇām ākṣeptā tvaṃ dadāsi ca ॥13-16-20॥
[अनिच्छत: (anichchhataḥ) (anicchataḥ) - of the unwilling; तव (tava) (tava) - your; विभो (vibho) (vibho) - O Lord; जन्म (janma) (janma) - birth; मृत्युः (mṛtyuḥ) (mṛtyuḥ) - death; अनेकतः (anekataḥ) (anekataḥ) - in many ways; द्वारम् (dvāram) (dvāram) - door; त्वम् (tvam) (tvam) - you; स्वर्ग (svarga) (svarga) - heaven; मोक्षाणाम् (mokṣāṇām) (mokṣāṇām) - of liberations; आक्षेप्ता (ākṣeptā) (ākṣeptā) - one who opens; त्वम् (tvam) (tvam) - you; ददासि (dadāsi) (dadāsi) - give; च (ca) (ca) - and;]
(Of the unwilling, your, O Lord, birth, death, in many ways. Door, you, of heavens and liberations, opener, you, give and.)
O Lord, for those unwilling, birth and death occur in many ways. You are the door and the opener to heaven and liberation; you also grant them. (13-16-20)
त्वमेव मोक्षः स्वर्गश्च कामः क्रोधस्त्वमेव हि। सत्त्वं रजस्तमश्चैव अधश्चोर्ध्वं त्वमेव हि ॥१३-१६-२१॥
tvam eva mokṣaḥ svargaś ca kāmaḥ krodhas tvam eva hi। sattvaṃ rajas tamaś caiva adhaś cordhvaṃ tvam eva hi ॥13-16-21॥

(You indeed are liberation, heaven and desire, anger, you indeed certainly. Purity, passion, darkness and indeed, below and above, you indeed certainly.)
You alone are liberation, heaven, desire, and anger; you alone are purity, passion, and darkness; you are both below and above, you alone indeed. (13-16-21)
ब्रह्मा विष्णुश्च रुद्रश्च स्कन्देन्द्रौ सविता यमः। वरुणेन्दू मनुर्धाता विधाता त्वं धनेश्वरः ॥१३-१६-२२॥
brahmā viṣṇuś ca rudraś ca skandendrāu savitā yamaḥ। varuṇendū manur dhātā vidhātā tvaṃ dhaneśvaraḥ ॥13-16-22॥

You are Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Rudra, Skanda, Indra, Savitṛ, Yama, Varuṇa, Indu (the Moon), Manu, Dhātṛ, Vidhātṛ, and the lord of wealth (Kubera). (13-16-22)
भूर्वायुर्ज्योतिरापश्च वाग्बुद्धिस्त्वं मतिर्मनः। कर्म सत्यानृते चोभे त्वमेवास्ति च नास्ति च ॥१३-१६-२३॥
bhūrvāyurjyotirāpaśca vāgbuddhistvaṃ matirmanaḥ। karma satyānṛte cobhe tvamevāsti ca nāsti ca ॥13-16-23॥
[भूः (bhūḥ) - earth; वायुः (vāyuḥ) - air; ज्योतिः (jyotiḥ) - light; आपः (āpaḥ) - waters; च (ca) - and; वाक् (vāk) - speech; बुद्धिः (buddhiḥ) - intellect; त्वम् (tvam) - you; मतिः (matiḥ) - understanding; मनः (manaḥ) - mind; कर्म (karma) - action; सत्य (satya) - truth; अनृते (anṛte) - untruth; च (ca) - and; उभे (ubhe) - both; त्वम् (tvam) - you; एव (eva) - indeed; अस्ति (asti) - is; च (ca) - and; नास्ति (nāsti) - is not; च (ca) - and;]
(Earth, air, light, waters, and speech, intellect, you, understanding, mind; action, truth, untruth, and both, you indeed are, and is, and is not.)
You are earth, air, light, waters, speech, intellect, understanding, and mind; you are action, truth and untruth, both existence and non-existence. (13-16-23)
इन्द्रियाणीन्द्रियार्थाश्च तत्परं प्रकृतेर्ध्रुवम्। विश्वाविश्वपरो भावश्चिन्त्याचिन्त्यस्त्वमेव हि ॥१३-१६-२४॥
indriyāṇīndriyārthāś ca tat paraṃ prakṛter dhruvam। viśvāviśvaparo bhāvaś cintyācintyās tvam eva hi ॥13-16-24॥
[इन्द्रियाणि (indriyāṇi) - senses; इन्द्रियार्थाः (indriyārthāḥ) - objects of the senses; च (ca) - and; तत् (tat) - that; परम् (param) - supreme; प्रकृतेः (prakṛteḥ) - of nature; ध्रुवम् (dhruvam) - eternal; विश्व (viśva) - all; अविश्व (aviśva) - not all; परः (paraḥ) - transcendent; भावः (bhāvaḥ) - state; चिन्त्य (cintya) - thinkable; अचिन्त्य (acintya) - unthinkable; त्वम् (tvam) - you; एव (eva) - indeed; हि (hi) - certainly;]
(Senses, objects of the senses and that supreme, of nature eternal; all, not all, transcendent state, thinkable, unthinkable, you indeed certainly.)
You are indeed the senses, the objects of the senses, and that which is supreme and eternal beyond nature; you are the state that is all and not all, transcendent, thinkable and unthinkable. (13-16-24)
यच्चैतत्परमं ब्रह्म यच्च तत्परमं पदम्। या गतिः साङ्ख्ययोगानां स भवान्नात्र संशयः ॥१३-१६-२५॥
yaccaitat paramaṃ brahma yac ca tat paramaṃ padam। yā gatiḥ sāṅkhyayogānāṃ sa bhavān nātra saṃśayaḥ ॥13-16-25॥
[यत् (yat) - which; च (ca) - and; एतत् (etat) - this; परमं (paramaṃ) - supreme; ब्रह्म (brahma) - Brahman; यत् (yat) - which; च (ca) - and; तत् (tat) - that; परमं (paramaṃ) - supreme; पदम् (padam) - state; या (yā) - which; गतिः (gatiḥ) - goal; साङ्ख्ययोगानां (sāṅkhyayogānāṃ) - of Sāṅkhya and Yoga; स (sa) - that; भवान् (bhavān) - you; न (na) - not; अत्र (atra) - here; संशयः (saṃśayaḥ) - doubt;]
(Which and this supreme Brahman, which and that supreme state; which goal of Sāṅkhya and Yoga, that you, not here doubt.)
That which is called the supreme Brahman, and that which is the supreme state; the goal attained by Sāṅkhya and Yoga, that is you—there is no doubt about this here. (13-16-25)
नूनमद्य कृतार्थाः स्म नूनं प्राप्ताः सतां गतिम्। यां गतिं प्राप्नुवन्तीह ज्ञाननिर्मलबुद्धयः ॥१३-१६-२६॥
nūnam adya kṛtārthāḥ sma nūnaṃ prāptāḥ satāṃ gatim। yāṃ gatiṃ prāpnuvantīha jñāna-nirmala-buddhayaḥ ॥13-16-26॥
[नूनम् (nūnam) - certainly; अद्य (adya) - today; कृतार्थाः (kṛtārthāḥ) - those who have accomplished their purpose; स्म (sma) - indeed; नूनम् (nūnam) - certainly; प्राप्ताः (prāptāḥ) - have attained; सताम् (satām) - of the good; गतिम् (gatim) - the path; याम् (yām) - which; गतिम् (gatim) - path; प्राप्नुवन्ति (prāpnuvanti) - attain; इह (iha) - here; ज्ञाननिर्मलबुद्धयः (jñāna-nirmala-buddhayaḥ) - those whose intellect is purified by knowledge;]
(Certainly today those who have accomplished their purpose indeed have attained the path of the good, which path here those whose intellect is purified by knowledge attain.)
Certainly, today we have truly fulfilled our purpose, for we have attained the path of the virtuous, the very path here attained by those whose intellects are purified by knowledge. (13-16-26)
अहो मूढाः स्म सुचिरमिमं कालमचेतसः। यन्न विद्मः परं देवं शाश्वतं यं विदुर्बुधाः ॥१३-१६-२७॥
aho mūḍhāḥ sma suciram imaṃ kālam acetasaḥ। yan na vidmaḥ paraṃ devaṃ śāśvataṃ yaṃ vidur budhāḥ ॥13-16-27॥
[अहो (aho) - alas; मूढाः (mūḍhāḥ) - fools; स्म (sma) - indeed; सुचिरम् (suciram) - for a long time; इमं (imaṃ) - this; कालम् (kālam) - time; अचेतसः (acetasaḥ) - unconscious; unaware; यत् (yat) - which; न (na) - not; विद्मः (vidmaḥ) - we know; परम् (param) - supreme; देवम् (devam) - divine; god; शाश्वतम् (śāśvatam) - eternal; यम् (yam) - whom; विदुः (viduḥ) - know; बुधाः (budhāḥ) - the wise; sages;]
(Alas; fools; indeed; for a long time; this; time; unconscious; which; not; we know; supreme; divine; eternal; whom; know; the wise;)
Alas, we have indeed been fools, unconscious for a long time in this time, not knowing that supreme, eternal divine whom the wise know. (13-16-27)
सोऽयमासादितः साक्षाद्बहुभिर्जन्मभिर्मया। भक्तानुग्रहकृद्देवो यं ज्ञात्वामृतमश्नुते ॥१३-१६-२८॥
so'ayam āsāditaḥ sākṣād bahubhir janmabhir mayā। bhaktānugrahakṛd devo yaṃ jñātvāmṛtam aśnute ॥13-16-28॥
[सः (saḥ) - he; अयम् (ayam) - this; आसादितः (āsāditaḥ) - attained; साक्षात् (sākṣāt) - directly; बहुभिः (bahubhiḥ) - by many; जन्मभिः (janmabhiḥ) - births; मया (mayā) - by me; भक्त (bhakta) - devoted; अनुग्रह (anugraha) - favor; कृत् (kṛt) - doing; देवः (devaḥ) - god; यम् (yam) - whom; ज्ञात्वा (jñātvā) - having known; अमृतम् (amṛtam) - immortality; अश्नुते (aśnute) - attains;]
(He this attained directly by many births by me; devoted favor doing god whom having known immortality attains;)
He, having been directly attained by me after many births, is the god who bestows favor upon devotees; knowing whom, one attains immortality. (13-16-28)
देवासुरमनुष्याणां यच्च गुह्यं सनातनम्। गुहायां निहितं ब्रह्म दुर्विज्ञेयं सुरैरपि ॥१३-१६-२९॥
devāsuramanuṣyāṇāṃ yac ca guhyaṃ sanātanam। guhāyāṃ nihitaṃ brahma durvijñeyaṃ surair api ॥13-16-29॥
[देव (deva) - god; असुर (asura) - demon; मनुष्याणां (manuṣyāṇām) - of humans; यत् (yat) - which; च (ca) - and; गुह्यं (guhyaṃ) - secret; सनातनम् (sanātanam) - eternal; गुहायाम् (guhāyām) - in the cave; निहितम् (nihitam) - placed; ब्रह्म (brahma) - Brahman; दुर्विज्ञेयम् (durvijñeyam) - difficult to comprehend; सुरैः (suraiḥ) - by the gods; अपि (api) - even;]
(Of gods, demons, and humans, which and secret eternal; in the cave placed Brahman difficult to comprehend even by the gods.)
That eternal secret, which is hidden in the cave and is difficult to comprehend even by the gods, demons, and humans, is Brahman. (13-16-29)
स एष भगवान्देवः सर्वकृत्सर्वतोमुखः। सर्वात्मा सर्वदर्शी च सर्वगः सर्ववेदिता ॥१३-१६-३०॥
sa eṣa bhagavān devaḥ sarvakṛt sarvatomukhaḥ। sarvātmā sarvadarśī ca sarvagaḥ sarvavedita ॥13-16-30॥
[स (sa) - he; एष (eṣa) - this; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the glorious one; देवः (devaḥ) - god; सर्वकृत् (sarvakṛt) - all-doer; सर्वतोमुखः (sarvatomukhaḥ) - having faces everywhere; सर्वात्मा (sarvātmā) - the self of all; सर्वदर्शी (sarvadarśī) - all-seeing; च (ca) - and; सर्वगः (sarvagaḥ) - all-pervading; सर्ववेदिता (sarvavedita) - all-knower;]
(He this glorious one god all-doer having faces everywhere, the self of all, all-seeing and all-pervading, all-knower.)
He, this glorious God, is the doer of all, faces all directions, is the self of all, sees everything, is all-pervading, and the knower of all. (13-16-30)
प्राणकृत्प्राणभृत्प्राणी प्राणदः प्राणिनां गतिः। देहकृद्देहभृद्देही देहभुग्देहिनां गतिः ॥१३-१६-३१॥
prāṇakṛt-prāṇabhṛt-prāṇī prāṇadaḥ prāṇināṃ gatiḥ। dehakṛt-dehabhṛt-dehī dehabhug-dehināṃ gatiḥ ॥13-16-31॥
[प्राणकृत् (prāṇakṛt) - creator of prāṇa; प्राणभृत् (prāṇabhṛt) - sustainer of prāṇa; प्राणी (prāṇī) - living being; प्राणदः (prāṇadaḥ) - giver of prāṇa; प्राणिनाम् (prāṇinām) - of living beings; गतिः (gatiḥ) - goal; देहकृत् (dehakṛt) - creator of the body; देहभृत् (dehabhṛt) - sustainer of the body; देही (dehī) - embodied one; देहभुक् (dehabhuk) - enjoyer of the body; देहिनाम् (dehinām) - of embodied beings; गतिः (gatiḥ) - goal;]
(creator of prāṇa; sustainer of prāṇa; living being; giver of prāṇa; of living beings; goal; creator of the body; sustainer of the body; embodied one; enjoyer of the body; of embodied beings; goal; (13-16-31))
He is the creator of prāṇa, sustainer of prāṇa, the living being, the giver of prāṇa, the goal of living beings; the creator of the body, sustainer of the body, the embodied one, enjoyer of the body, and the goal of embodied beings. (13-16-31)
अध्यात्मगतिनिष्ठानां ध्यानिनामात्मवेदिनाम्। अपुनर्मारकामानां या गतिः सोऽयमीश्वरः ॥१३-१६-३२॥
adhyātmagatiniṣṭhānāṃ dhyāninām ātmavedinām। apunar mārakāmānāṃ yā gatiḥ so'yam īśvaraḥ ॥13-16-32॥
[अध्यात्म (adhyātma) - pertaining to the self; गति (gati) - path; निष्ठानाम् (niṣṭhānām) - of those established; ध्यानिनाम् (dhyāninām) - of meditators; आत्मवेदिनाम् (ātmavedinām) - of knowers of the self; अपुनः (apunaḥ) - not again; मारकामानाम् (mārakāmānām) - of those desiring death; या (yā) - which; गतिः (gatiḥ) - path; सः (saḥ) - he; अयम् (ayam) - this; ईश्वरः (īśvaraḥ) - lord;]
(Of those established in the path of the self, of meditators, of knowers of the self; not again of those desiring death, which path; he this lord.)
This Lord is the path which is not again for those desiring death, for those established in the path of the self, for meditators, and for knowers of the self. (13-16-32)
अयं च सर्वभूतानां शुभाशुभगतिप्रदः। अयं च जन्ममरणे विदध्यात्सर्वजन्तुषु ॥१३-१६-३३॥
ayaṃ ca sarvabhūtānāṃ śubhāśubhagatipradaḥ। ayaṃ ca janmamaraṇe vidadhyātsarvajantuṣu ॥13-16-33॥
[अयं (ayaṃ) - this; च (ca) - and; सर्वभूतानां (sarvabhūtānāṃ) - of all beings; शुभाशुभगतिप्रदः (śubhāśubhagatipradaḥ) - giver of the course to auspicious and inauspicious (states); अयं (ayaṃ) - this; च (ca) - and; जन्ममरणे (janmamaraṇe) - in birth and death; विदध्यात् (vidadhyāt) - would arrange; सर्वजन्तुषु (sarvajantuṣu) - among all creatures;]
(This and (he is) the giver of the course to auspicious and inauspicious (states) of all beings. This and (he) would arrange birth and death among all creatures. (13-16-33))
He is the one who grants all beings their auspicious and inauspicious destinies. He also arranges birth and death for all creatures. (13-16-33)
अयं च सिद्धिकामानामृषीणां सिद्धिदः प्रभुः। अयं च मोक्षकामानां द्विजानां मोक्षदः प्रभुः ॥१३-१६-३४॥
ayaṃ ca siddhikāmānām ṛṣīṇāṃ siddhidaḥ prabhuḥ। ayaṃ ca mokṣakāmānāṃ dvijānāṃ mokṣadaḥ prabhuḥ ॥13-16-34॥
[अयं (ayaṃ) - this; च (ca) - and; सिद्धिकामानाम् (siddhikāmānām) - of those desiring accomplishment; ऋषीणाम् (ṛṣīṇām) - of the sages; सिद्धिदः (siddhidaḥ) - giver of accomplishment; प्रभुः (prabhuḥ) - lord; अयं (ayaṃ) - this; च (ca) - and; मोक्षकामानाम् (mokṣakāmānām) - of those desiring liberation; द्विजानाम् (dvijānām) - of the twice-born; मोक्षदः (mokṣadaḥ) - giver of liberation; प्रभुः (prabhuḥ) - lord;]
(This and of those desiring accomplishment, of the sages, giver of accomplishment, lord; this and of those desiring liberation, of the twice-born, giver of liberation, lord.)
He is the lord who grants accomplishment to sages desiring success, and he is also the lord who grants liberation to twice-born desiring liberation. (13-16-34)
भूराद्यान्सर्वभुवनानुत्पाद्य सदिवौकसः। विभर्ति देवस्तनुभिरष्टाभिश्च ददाति च ॥१३-१६-३५॥
bhūrādyān sarvabhuvanān utpādya sadivaukasah। vibharti devas tanubhir aṣṭābhiś ca dadāti ca ॥13-16-35॥
[भूः (bhūḥ) - earth; आद्यन् (ādyān) - beginning with; सर्वभुवनान् (sarvabhuvanān) - all worlds; उत्पाद्य (utpādya) - having produced; स (sa) - he; दिवौकसः (divaukasah) - with the gods; विभर्ति (vibharti) - supports; देवः (devaḥ) - the god; तनुभिः (tanubhiḥ) - with bodies; अष्टाभिः (aṣṭābhiḥ) - eight; च (ca) - and; ददाति (dadāti) - gives; च (ca) - and;]
(Having produced all worlds beginning with the earth, he, with the gods, the god supports (them) with eight bodies and also gives (them).)
Having created all the worlds starting from the earth, the god, together with the gods, supports them with eight bodies and also bestows them. (13-16-35)
अतः प्रवर्तते सर्वमस्मिन्सर्वं प्रतिष्ठितम्। अस्मिंश्च प्रलयं याति अयमेकः सनातनः ॥१३-१६-३६॥
ataḥ pravartate sarvamasmin sarvaṃ pratiṣṭhitam। asmiṃś ca pralayaṃ yāti ayam ekaḥ sanātanaḥ ॥13-16-36॥

(From this proceeds all; in this all is established; in this and dissolution goes; this one eternal.)
From this, everything arises; in this, all is established; into this, all dissolves; this one is eternal. (13-16-36)
अयं स सत्यकामानां सत्यलोकः परः सताम्। अपवर्गश्च मुक्तानां कैवल्यं चात्मवादिनाम् ॥१३-१६-३७॥
ayaṃ sa satyakāmānāṃ satyalokaḥ paraḥ satām। apavargaś ca muktānāṃ kaivalyaṃ cātmavādinām ॥13-16-37॥

This is the supreme world of truth for those whose desire is truth, the highest realm for the virtuous; it is liberation for the liberated, and absolute oneness for those who speak of the Self. (13-16-37)
अयं ब्रह्मादिभिः सिद्धैर्गुहायां गोपितः प्रभुः। देवासुरमनुष्याणां न प्रकाशो भवेदिति ॥१३-१६-३८॥
ayaṃ brahmādibhiḥ siddhair guhāyāṃ gopitaḥ prabhuḥ। devāsuramanuṣyāṇāṃ na prakāśo bhaved iti ॥13-16-38॥
[अयम् (ayam) - this; ब्रह्मादिभिः (brahmādibhiḥ) - by Brahmā and others; सिद्धैः (siddhaiḥ) - by accomplished ones; गुहायाम् (guhāyām) - in the cave; गोपितः (gopitaḥ) - hidden; प्रभुः (prabhuḥ) - the Lord; देव (deva) - of the gods; असुर (asura) - of the demons; मनुष्याणाम् (manuṣyāṇām) - of men; न (na) - not; प्रकाशः (prakāśaḥ) - manifestation; भवेत् (bhavet) - should be; इति (iti) - thus;]
(This (is) hidden by Brahmā and others, by the accomplished ones, in the cave, the Lord; for gods, demons, and men, there should not be manifestation, thus.)
This Lord has been hidden in the cave by Brahmā and other accomplished beings, so that there should be no manifestation to gods, demons, or men. (13-16-38)
तं त्वां देवासुरनरास्तत्त्वेन न विदुर्भवम्। मोहिताः खल्वनेनैव हृच्छयेन प्रवेशिताः ॥१३-१६-३९॥
taṁ tvāṁ devāsuranarās tattvena na vidur bhavam। mohitāḥ khalv anenaiva hṛcchayena praveśitāḥ ॥13-16-39॥

(That you gods, demons, and men in reality not know your being. Deluded indeed by this only, by desire of the heart, (they are) entered.)
Gods, demons, and men do not truly know your real nature. Indeed, deluded by this very desire of the heart, they have been led astray. (13-16-39)
ये चैनं सम्प्रपद्यन्ते भक्तियोगेन भारत। तेषामेवात्मनात्मानं दर्शयत्येष हृच्छयः ॥१३-१६-४०॥
ye cai naṃ samprapadyante bhaktiyogena bhārata। teṣāmevātmana ātmānaṃ darśayatyeṣa hṛcchayaḥ ॥13-16-40॥

(Who and this (one) approach (him) by the yoga of devotion, O Bhārata; of them indeed, to the self, the self this (one) shows, desire of the heart.)
O Bhārata, those who approach him through the yoga of devotion, to them alone this desire of the heart reveals the self to the self. (13-16-40)
यं ज्ञात्वा न पुनर्जन्म मरणं चापि विद्यते। यं विदित्वा परं वेद्यं वेदितव्यं न विद्यते ॥१३-१६-४१॥
yaṃ jñātvā na punarjanma maraṇaṃ cāpi vidyate। yaṃ viditvā paraṃ vedyaṃ veditavyaṃ na vidyate ॥13-16-41॥

(Which having known, neither rebirth nor death also exists; which having realized, the supreme to be known, nothing else to be understood exists. (13-16-41))
By knowing which, there is neither rebirth nor death; and by realizing which, the supreme object of knowledge, nothing else remains to be known. (13-16-41)
यं लब्ध्वा परमं लाभं मन्यते नाधिकं पुनः। प्राणसूक्ष्मां परां प्राप्तिमागच्छत्यक्षयावहाम् ॥१३-१६-४२॥
yaṃ labdhvā paramaṃ lābhaṃ manyate nādhikaṃ punaḥ। prāṇasūkṣmāṃ parāṃ prāptim āgacchat akṣayāvahām ॥13-16-42॥

(Which having obtained the supreme gain, thinks not greater again; subtle of life-breath, supreme attainment, having attained, bringing the imperishable.)
Having attained that which is the supreme gain, one does not consider anything greater again; having reached the supreme, subtle attainment of the vital force, which brings the imperishable. (13-16-42)
यं साङ्ख्या गुणतत्त्वज्ञाः साङ्ख्यशास्त्रविशारदाः। सूक्ष्मज्ञानरताः पूर्वं ज्ञात्वा मुच्यन्ति बन्धनैः ॥१३-१६-४३॥
yaṃ sāṅkhyā guṇatattvajñāḥ sāṅkhyaśāstraviśāradāḥ। sūkṣmajñānaratāḥ pūrvaṃ jñātvā mucyanti bandhanaiḥ ॥13-16-43॥
[यं (yaṃ) - whom; साङ्ख्या (sāṅkhyā) - followers of Sāṅkhya; गुणतत्त्वज्ञाः (guṇatattvajñāḥ) - knowers of the principle of guṇas; साङ्ख्यशास्त्रविशारदाः (sāṅkhyaśāstraviśāradāḥ) - experts in the science of Sāṅkhya; सूक्ष्मज्ञानरताः (sūkṣmajñānaratāḥ) - delighted in subtle knowledge; पूर्वं (pūrvaṃ) - before; ज्ञात्वा (jñātvā) - having known; मुच्यन्ति (mucyanti) - are released; बन्धनैः (bandhanaiḥ) - from bonds;]
(Whom the followers of Sāṅkhya, knowers of the principle of guṇas, experts in the science of Sāṅkhya, delighted in subtle knowledge, having known before, are released from bonds.)
Those whom the followers of Sāṅkhya, who are experts in the science of Sāṅkhya and knowers of the principles of the guṇas, and who delight in subtle knowledge, having known beforehand, are freed from bondage. (13-16-43)
यं च वेदविदो वेद्यं वेदान्तेषु प्रतिष्ठितम्। प्राणायामपरा नित्यं यं विशन्ति जपन्ति च ॥१३-१६-४४॥
yaṃ ca vedavido vedyaṃ vedānteṣu pratiṣṭhitam। prāṇāyāmaparā nityaṃ yaṃ viśanti japanti ca ॥13-16-44॥

(Whom and the knowers of the Veda (regard as) to be known, established in the Vedāntas; those devoted to prāṇāyāma always, whom enter, recite and;)
That whom the knowers of the Veda declare as the object to be known, established in the Vedāntas, whom those devoted to prāṇāyāma always enter and recite— (13-16-44)
अयं स देवयानानामादित्यो द्वारमुच्यते। अयं च पितृयानानां चन्द्रमा द्वारमुच्यते ॥१३-१६-४५॥
ayaṃ sa devayānānām ādityo dvāram ucyate। ayaṃ ca pitṛyānānāṃ candramā dvāram ucyate ॥13-16-45॥

This sun is called the door of the paths of the gods; and this moon is called the door of the paths of the ancestors. (13-16-45)
एष कालगतिश्चित्रा संवत्सरयुगादिषु। भावाभावौ तदात्वे च अयने दक्षिणोत्तरे ॥१३-१६-४६॥
eṣa kālagatiś citrā saṃvatsarayugādiṣu। bhāvābhāvau tadātve ca ayane dakṣiṇottare ॥13-16-46॥
[एष (eṣa) - this; कालगतिः (kālagatiḥ) - the movement of time; चित्रा (citrā) - varied; संवत्सरयुगादिषु (saṃvatsarayugādiṣu) - in years, yugas, etc.; भावाभावौ (bhāvābhāvau) - existence and non-existence; तदात्वे (tadātve) - at that time; च (ca) - and; अयने (ayane) - in the solstices; दक्षिणोत्तरे (dakṣiṇottare) - southern and northern;]
(This movement of time is varied in years, yugas, etc.; existence and non-existence at that time and in the solstices, southern and northern.)
This movement of time is diverse in years, yugas, and so on; existence and non-existence occur at those times and during the southern and northern solstices. (13-16-46)
एवं प्रजापतिः पूर्वमाराध्य बहुभिः स्तवैः। वरयामास पुत्रत्वे नीललोहितसञ्ज्ञितम् ॥१३-१६-४७॥
evaṃ prajāpatiḥ pūrvam ārādhya bahubhiḥ stavaiḥ। varayāmāsa putratve nīlalo-hita-saṃjñitam ॥13-16-47॥

ऋग्भिर्यमनुशंसन्ति तन्त्रे कर्मणि बह्वृचः। यजुर्भिर्यं त्रिधा वेद्यं जुह्वत्यध्वर्यवोऽध्वरे ॥१३-१६-४८॥
ṛgbhir yam anuśaṁsanti tantre karmaṇi bahvṛcaḥ। yajurbhir yaṁ tridhā vedyaṁ juhvaty adhvaryavo 'dhvare ॥13-16-48॥

(Whom by the Ṛg (hymns) the Bahvṛcas praise repeatedly in the ritual system, in the action; whom by the Yajus (formulas) the Adhvaryus offer (oblation) in the sacrifice as to be known in three ways.)
He whom the Bahvṛcas praise with Ṛg hymns in the ritual system and action, whom the Adhvaryus offer oblations to with Yajus formulas in the sacrifice as the one to be known in three ways. (13-16-48)
सामभिर्यं च गायन्ति सामगाः शुद्धबुद्धयः। यज्ञस्य परमा योनिः पतिश्चायं परः स्मृतः ॥१३-१६-४९॥
sāmabhiryaṃ ca gāyanti sāmagāḥ śuddhabuddhayaḥ। yajñasya paramā yoniḥ patiś cāyaṃ paraḥ smṛtaḥ ॥13-16-49॥

(With Sāma hymns whom and sing singers of Sāma pure-minded ones; of the sacrifice supreme source lord and this supreme is remembered.)
The pure-minded singers of Sāma sing of Him with Sāma hymns; He is remembered as the supreme source and lord of the sacrifice, and this one is regarded as the highest. (13-16-49)
रात्र्यहःश्रोत्रनयनः पक्षमासशिरोभुजः। ऋतुवीर्यस्तपोधैर्यो ह्यब्दगुह्योरुपादवान् ॥१३-१६-५०॥
rātryahaḥśrotranayanaḥ pakṣamāśaśirobhujaḥ। ṛtuvīryastapodhairyo hyabdaguhyorupādavān ॥13-16-50॥

(night, day, ear, eye, fortnight, month, head, arm, season, strength, austerity, fortitude, indeed, year, secret part, thigh, having feet.)
He has night as his form, day as his form, ears, eyes, fortnights, months, head, arms, seasons, strength, austerity, fortitude, indeed, years, secret parts, thighs, and feet. (13-16-50)
मृत्युर्यमो हुताशश्च कालः संहारवेगवान्। कालस्य परमा योनिः कालश्चायं सनातनः ॥१३-१६-५१॥
mṛtyur yamo hutāśaś ca kālaḥ saṃhāravegavān। kālasya paramā yoniḥ kālaś cāyaṃ sanātanaḥ ॥13-16-51॥

चन्द्रादित्यौ सनक्षत्रौ सग्रहौ सह वायुना। ध्रुवः सप्तर्षयश्चैव भुवनाः सप्त एव च ॥१३-१६-५२॥
candrādityau sanakṣatrau sagrahau saha vāyunā। dhruvaḥ saptarṣayaścaiva bhuvanāḥ sapta eva ca ॥13-16-52॥

प्रधानं महदव्यक्तं विशेषान्तं सवैकृतम्। ब्रह्मादि स्तम्बपर्यन्तं भूतादि सदसच्च यत् ॥१३-१६-५३॥
pradhānaṃ mahadavyaktaṃ viśeṣāntaṃ savaikṛtam। brahmādi stambaparyantaṃ bhūtādi sadasacca yat ॥13-16-53॥

अष्टौ प्रकृतयश्चैव प्रकृतिभ्यश्च यत्परम्। अस्य देवस्य यद्भागं कृत्स्नं सम्परिवर्तते ॥१३-१६-५४॥
aṣṭau prakṛtayaś caiva prakṛtibhyaś ca yat param। asya devasya yad bhāgaṃ kṛtsnaṃ samparivartate ॥13-16-54॥

(Eight natures and indeed from the natures that which is beyond; of this god, whichever portion entirely completely revolves.)
There are eight natures, and beyond these natures, whatever is superior; the entire portion of this god completely revolves. (13-16-54)
एतत्परममानन्दं यत्तच्छाश्वतमेव च। एषा गतिर्विरक्तानामेष भावः परः सताम् ॥१३-१६-५५॥
etat paramam ānandaṃ yat tac chāśvatam eva ca। eṣā gatir viraktānām eṣa bhāvaḥ paraḥ satām ॥13-16-55॥

एतत्पदमनुद्विग्नमेतद्ब्रह्म सनातनम्। शास्त्रवेदाङ्गविदुषामेतद्ध्यानं परं पदम् ॥१३-१६-५६॥

(This state undisturbed, this Brahman eternal. Of the learned in scripture and Vedāṅga, this meditation is the supreme state.)
This undisturbed state is the eternal Brahman. For those learned in the scriptures and Vedāṅgas, this meditation is the supreme state. (13-16-56)
इयं सा परमा काष्ठा इयं सा परमा कला। इयं सा परमा सिद्धिरियं सा परमा गतिः ॥१३-१६-५७॥
iyaṃ sā paramā kāṣṭhā iyaṃ sā paramā kalā। iyaṃ sā paramā siddhir iyaṃ sā paramā gatiḥ ॥13-16-57॥

She is this supreme limit, she is this supreme part, she is this supreme accomplishment, she is this supreme path. (13-16-57)
इयं सा परमा शान्तिरियं सा निर्वृतिः परा। यं प्राप्य कृतकृत्याः स्म इत्यमन्यन्त वेधसः ॥१३-१६-५८॥
iyaṃ sā paramā śāntiriyaṃ sā nirvṛtiḥ parā। yaṃ prāpya kṛtakṛtyāḥ sma ityamanyanta vedhasaḥ ॥13-16-58॥

(This she is the supreme peace; this she is the supreme liberation. Which, having attained, those who have accomplished their purpose indeed thus thought the sages.)
This is the supreme peace; this is the highest liberation. Having attained this, the sages considered themselves as having fulfilled their purpose. (13-16-58)
इयं तुष्टिरियं सिद्धिरियं श्रुतिरियं स्मृतिः। अध्यात्मगतिनिष्ठानां विदुषां प्राप्तिरव्यया ॥१३-१६-५९॥
iyaṃ tuṣṭir iyaṃ siddhir iyaṃ śrutir iyaṃ smṛtiḥ। adhyātmagati-niṣṭhānāṃ viduṣāṃ prāptir avyayā ॥13-16-59॥
[इयं (iyaṃ) - this (feminine); तुष्टिः (tuṣṭiḥ) - contentment; इयं (iyaṃ) - this (feminine); सिद्धिः (siddhiḥ) - attainment; इयं (iyaṃ) - this (feminine); श्रुतिः (śrutiḥ) - hearing (scripture); इयं (iyaṃ) - this (feminine); स्मृतिः (smṛtiḥ) - memory (tradition); अध्यात्मगतिनिष्ठानाम् (adhyātmagati-niṣṭhānām) - of those established in the course of the self; विदुषाम् (viduṣām) - of the wise; प्राप्तिः (prāptiḥ) - attainment; अव्यया (avyayā) - imperishable;]
(This is contentment; this is attainment; this is hearing (scripture); this is memory (tradition); of those established in the course of the self, of the wise, the attainment is imperishable.)
This contentment, this accomplishment, this hearing, this memory—these are the imperishable attainments of the wise who are established in the path of the self. (13-16-59)
यजतां यज्ञकामानां यज्ञैर्विपुलदक्षिणैः। या गतिर्दैवतैर्दिव्या सा गतिस्त्वं सनातन ॥१३-१६-६०॥
yajatāṃ yajñakāmānāṃ yajñairvipuladakṣiṇaiḥ। yā gatirdaivatairdivyā sā gatistvaṃ sanātana ॥13-16-60॥
[यजताम् (yajatām) - of those who sacrifice; यज्ञकामानाम् (yajñakāmānām) - of those desiring sacrifice; यज्ञैः (yajñaiḥ) - by sacrifices; विपुलदक्षिणैः (vipuladakṣiṇaiḥ) - with abundant gifts; या (yā) - which; गतिः (gatiḥ) - goal; दैवतैः (daivataiḥ) - by the deities; दिव्या (divyā) - divine; सा (sā) - that; गतिः (gatiḥ) - goal; त्वम् (tvam) - you; सनातन (sanātana) - eternal;]
(Of those who sacrifice, of those desiring sacrifice, by sacrifices with abundant gifts, which goal by the deities divine, that goal you eternal.)
You are the eternal goal, the divine destination attained by the gods through sacrifices with abundant gifts, sought by those who perform and desire sacrifice. (13-16-60)
जप्यहोमव्रतैः कृच्छ्रैर्नियमैर्देहपातनैः। तप्यतां या गतिर्देव वैराजे सा गतिर्भवान् ॥१३-१६-६१॥
japyahomavrataiḥ kṛcchrairniyamairdehapātanaiḥ। tapyatāṃ yā gatirdeva vairāje sā gatirbhavān ॥13-16-61॥
[जप्य (japya) - to be muttered; होम (homa) - sacrificial offering; व्रतैः (vrataiḥ) - by vows; कृच्छ्रैः (kṛcchraiḥ) - by austerities; नियमैः (niyamaiḥ) - by restraints; देहपातनैः (dehapātanaiḥ) - by mortifications of the body; तप्यतां (tapyatāṃ) - of those who practice austerities; या (yā) - which; गतिः (gatiḥ) - state; देव (deva) - O divine one; वैराजे (vairāje) - in the Viraja (fire or world); सा (sā) - that; गतिः (gatiḥ) - state; भवान् (bhavān) - you;]
(By muttered prayers, sacrificial offerings, vows, austerities, restraints, mortifications of the body, of those who practice austerities, which state, O divine one, in the Viraja, that state, you.)
O divine one, the state which is attained in the Viraja by those who practice austerities through muttered prayers, sacrificial offerings, vows, severe penances, restraints, and mortifications of the body, that very state is yours. (13-16-61)
कर्मन्यासकृतानां च विरक्तानां ततस्ततः। या गतिर्ब्रह्मभवने सा गतिस्त्वं सनातन ॥१३-१६-६२॥
karmanyāsakṛtānāṃ ca viraktānāṃ tatas tataḥ। yā gatir brahmabhavane sā gatis tvaṃ sanātana ॥13-16-62॥
[कर्मन्यासकृतानां (karmanyāsakṛtānāṃ) - of those who have performed the renunciation of actions; च (ca) - and; विरक्तानां (viraktānāṃ) - of the dispassionate; ततः (tataḥ) - from there; ततः (tataḥ) - from there; या (yā) - which; गतिः (gatiḥ) - state; ब्रह्मभवने (brahmabhavane) - in the abode of Brahman; सा (sā) - that; गतिः (gatiḥ) - state; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; सनातन (sanātana) - eternal;]
(Of those who have performed the renunciation of actions and of the dispassionate, from there and from there, which state in the abode of Brahman, that state you (are), eternal.)
You are the eternal state that is attained in the abode of Brahman by those who have renounced actions and by the dispassionate. (13-16-62)
अपुनर्मारकामानां वैराग्ये वर्ततां परे। विकृतीनां लयानां च सा गतिस्त्वं सनातन ॥१३-१६-६३॥
apunarmārakāmānāṃ vairāgye vartatāṃ pare। vikṛtīnāṃ layānāṃ ca sā gatistvaṃ sanātana ॥13-16-63॥
[अपुनर्मारकामानां (apunarmārakāmānāṃ) - of those who do not again have desire for objects; वैराग्ये (vairāgye) - in dispassion; वर्ततां (vartatām) - of those who abide; परे (pare) - in the Supreme; विकृतीनां (vikṛtīnāṃ) - of modifications; लयानां (layānāṃ) - of dissolutions; च (ca) - and; सा (sā) - she; गतिः (gatiḥ) - the goal; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; सनातन (sanātana) - eternal;]
(Of those who do not again have desire for objects, in dispassion, of those who abide in the Supreme; of modifications, of dissolutions, and she the goal you eternal.)
You are the eternal goal for those who, having no renewed desire for objects, abide in dispassion in the Supreme; you are also the goal for the dissolutions of modifications. (13-16-63)
ज्ञानविज्ञाननिष्ठानां निरुपाख्या निरञ्जना। कैवल्या या गतिर्देव परमा सा गतिर्भवान् ॥१३-१६-६४॥
jñānavijñānaniṣṭhānāṃ nirupākhyā nirañjanā। kaivalyā yā gatirdeva paramā sā gatirbhavān ॥13-16-64॥
[ज्ञान (jñāna) - knowledge; विज्ञान (vijñāna) - discernment; निष्ठानां (niṣṭhānāṃ) - of those established; निरुपाख्या (nirupākhyā) - indescribable; निरञ्जना (nirañjanā) - stainless; कैवल्या (kaivalyā) - of liberation; या (yā) - which; गतिः (gatiḥ) - state; देव (deva) - O divine one; परमा (paramā) - supreme; सा (sā) - that; गतिः (gatiḥ) - state; भवान् (bhavān) - you;]
(Of those established in knowledge and discernment, indescribable, stainless; the state of liberation which, O divine one, is supreme, that state is you.)
O divine one, you are the supreme state of liberation, which is indescribable and stainless, and is attained by those established in knowledge and discernment. (13-16-64)
वेदशास्त्रपुराणोक्ताः पञ्चैता गतयः स्मृताः। त्वत्प्रसादाद्धि लभ्यन्ते न लभ्यन्तेऽन्यथा विभो ॥१३-१६-६५॥
vedaśāstrapurāṇoktāḥ pañcaitā gatayaḥ smṛtāḥ। tvatprasādād dhi labhyante na labhyante'nyathā vibho ॥13-16-65॥
[वेद (veda) - Veda; शास्त्र (śāstra) - treatise; पुराण (purāṇa) - Purāṇa; उक्ताः (uktāḥ) - spoken; पञ्च (pañca) - five; एता (etā) - these; गतयः (gatayaḥ) - paths; स्मृताः (smṛtāḥ) - are remembered; त्वत् (tvat) - your; प्रसादात् (prasādāt) - from grace; हि (hi) - indeed; लभ्यन्ते (labhyante) - are obtained; न (na) - not; लभ्यन्ते (labhyante) - are obtained; अन्यथा (anyathā) - otherwise; विभो (vibho) - O Lord;]
(The five paths spoken of in the Vedas, treatises, and Purāṇas are remembered; indeed, they are obtained by your grace, O Lord, not otherwise are they obtained.)
The five paths described in the Vedas, treatises, and Purāṇas are known to exist; O Lord, they are attained only by your grace and not by any other means. (13-16-65)
इति तण्डिस्तपोयोगात्तुष्टावेशानमव्ययम्। जगौ च परमं ब्रह्म यत्पुरा लोककृज्जगौ ॥१३-१६-६६॥
iti ṭaṇḍis tapoyogāt tuṣṭāveśānam avyayam। jagau ca paramaṃ brahma yat purā lokakṛj jagau ॥13-16-66॥
[इति (iti) - thus; तण्डिः (ṭaṇḍiḥ) - Ṭaṇḍi (the sage); तपः (tapaḥ) - austerity; योगात् (yogāt) - from union; तुष्टाव (tuṣṭāva) - praised; ईशानम् (īśānam) - the Lord; अव्ययम् (avyayam) - imperishable; जगौ (jagau) - sang; च (ca) - and; परमम् (paramam) - supreme; ब्रह्म (brahma) - Brahman; यत् (yat) - which; पुरा (purā) - formerly; लोककृत् (lokakṛt) - creator of the worlds; जगौ (jagau) - sang;]
(Thus Ṭaṇḍi, from austerity and union, praised the imperishable Lord; and sang the supreme Brahman which formerly the creator of the worlds sang. (13-16-66))
Thus, Ṭaṇḍi, through austerity and union, praised the imperishable Lord and sang of the supreme Brahman, which the creator of the worlds had sung in ancient times. (13-16-66)
ब्रह्मा शतक्रतुर्विष्णुर्विश्वेदेवा महर्षयः। न विदुस्त्वामिति ततस्तुष्टः प्रोवाच तं शिवः ॥१३-१६-६७॥
brahmā śatakraturviṣṇurviśvedevā maharṣayaḥ। na vidustvāmiti tatastuṣṭaḥ provāca taṃ śivaḥ ॥13-16-67॥
[ब्रह्मा (brahmā) - Brahmā; शतक्रतु: (śatakratuḥ) - Indra; विष्णु: (viṣṇuḥ) - Viṣṇu; विश्वेदेवा: (viśvedevāḥ) - all the gods; महर्षय: (maharṣayaḥ) - great sages; न (na) - not; विदु: (viduḥ) - knew; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; इति (iti) - thus; तत: (tataḥ) - then; तुष्ट: (tuṣṭaḥ) - pleased; प्रोवाच (provāca) - spoke; तम् (tam) - to him; शिव: (śivaḥ) - Śiva;]
(Brahmā, Indra, Viṣṇu, all the gods, great sages, did not know you, thus; then, pleased, Śiva spoke to him.)

अक्षयश्चाव्ययश्चैव भविता दुःखवर्जितः। यशस्वी तेजसा युक्तो दिव्यज्ञानसमन्वितः ॥१३-१६-६८॥
akṣayaś cāvyayaś caiva bhavitā duḥkhavarjitaḥ। yaśasvī tejasā yukto divyajñānasamanvitaḥ ॥13-16-68॥
[अक्षयः (akṣayaḥ) - imperishable; च (ca) - and; अव्ययः (avyayaḥ) - indestructible; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; भविता (bhavitā) - will be; दुःखवर्जितः (duḥkhavarjitaḥ) - devoid of sorrow; यशस्वी (yaśasvī) - glorious; तेजसा (tejasā) - with brilliance; युक्तः (yuktaḥ) - endowed; दिव्यज्ञानसमन्वितः (divyajñānasamanvitaḥ) - possessed of divine knowledge;]
(Imperishable and indestructible indeed will be, devoid of sorrow; glorious, endowed with brilliance, possessed of divine knowledge.)
He will be imperishable and indestructible, free from sorrow; glorious, endowed with brilliance, and possessed of divine knowledge. (13-16-68)
ऋषीणामभिगम्यश्च सूत्रकर्ता सुतस्तव। मत्प्रसादाद्द्विजश्रेष्ठ भविष्यति न संशयः ॥१३-१६-६९॥
ṛṣīṇām abhigamyas ca sūtrakartā sutas tava। matprasādād dvijaśreṣṭha bhaviṣyati na saṃśayaḥ॥13-16-69॥
[ऋषीणाम् (ṛṣīṇām) - of the seers; अभिगम्यः (abhigamyaḥ) - approachable; च (ca) - and; सूत्रकर्ता (sūtrakartā) - composer of aphorisms; सुतः (sutaḥ) - son; तव (tava) - your; मत्प्रसादात् (matprasādāt) - by my grace; द्विजश्रेष्ठ (dvijaśreṣṭha) - O best of twice-born; भविष्यति (bhaviṣyati) - will become; न (na) - not; संशयः (saṃśayaḥ) - doubt;]
(Of the seers approachable and composer of aphorisms your son by my grace O best of twice-born will become not doubt.)
By my grace, O best of the twice-born, your son will become approachable to the seers and a composer of aphorisms; there is no doubt about this. (13-16-69)
कं वा कामं ददाम्यद्य ब्रूहि यद्वत्स काङ्क्षसे। प्राञ्जलिः स उवाचेदं त्वयि भक्तिर्दृढास्तु मे ॥१३-१६-७०॥
kaṁ vā kāmaṁ dadāmyadya brūhi yadvatsa kāṅkṣase। prāñjaliḥ sa uvācedaṁ tvayi bhaktirdṛḍhāstu me ॥13-16-70॥
[कं (kaṁ) - which; वा (vā) - or; कामं (kāmaṁ) - desire; ददामि (dadāmi) - I give; अद्य (adya) - today; ब्रूहि (brūhi) - speak; यत् (yat) - which; वत्स (vatsa) - child; काङ्क्षसे (kāṅkṣase) - you desire; प्राञ्जलिः (prāñjaliḥ) - with folded hands; स (sa) - he; उवाच (uvāca) - said; इदं (idaṁ) - this; त्वयि (tvayi) - in you; भक्तिः (bhaktiḥ) - devotion; दृढा (dṛḍhā) - firm; अस्तु (astu) - let it be; मे (me) - to me;]
(Which or desire I give today, speak which, child, you desire. With folded hands, he said this: in you, devotion firm let it be to me.)
"Tell me, O child, which desire you wish for, I shall grant it today." With folded hands, he said: "Let firm devotion to you be mine." (13-16-70)
एवं दत्त्वा वरं देवो वन्द्यमानः सुरर्षिभिः। स्तूयमानश्च विबुधैस्तत्रैवान्तरधीयत ॥१३-१६-७१॥
evaṃ dattvā varaṃ devo vandyamānaḥ surarṣibhiḥ. stūyamānaś ca vibudhais tatraivāntaradhīyata ॥13-16-71॥
[एवं (evaṃ) - thus; in this way; दत्त्वा (dattvā) - having given; वरं (varaṃ) - boon; देवः (devaḥ) - the god; वन्द्यमानः (vandyamānaḥ) - being worshipped; सुरर्षिभिः (surarṣibhiḥ) - by the divine sages; स्तूयमानः (stūyamānaḥ) - being praised; च (ca) - and; विबुधैः (vibudhaiḥ) - by the wise (gods); तत्र (tatra) - there; एव (eva) - indeed; अन्तरधीयत (antaradhīyata) - disappeared;]
(Thus, having given the boon, the god, being worshipped by the divine sages and being praised also by the wise, there indeed disappeared.)
Thus, after granting the boon, the god, worshipped by the divine sages and praised by the wise, disappeared right there. (13-16-71)
अन्तर्हिते भगवति सानुगे यादवेश्वर। ऋषिराश्रममागम्य ममैतत्प्रोक्तवानिह ॥१३-१६-७२॥
antarhite bhagavati sānuge yādaveśvara। ṛṣirāśramam āgamya mama etat proktavān iha ॥13-16-72॥
[अन्तर्हिते (antarhite) - having disappeared; hidden; withdrawn; भगवति (bhagavati) - in the Lord; in the revered one; सानुगे (sānuge) - with his followers; accompanied by attendants; यादवेश्वर (yādaveśvara) - O Lord of the Yādavas; ऋषि (ṛṣi) - sage; आश्रमम् (āśramam) - hermitage; आगम्य (āgamya) - having come; मम (mama) - to me; my; एतत् (etat) - this; प्रोक्तवान् (proktavān) - has spoken; said; इह (iha) - here;]
(When the Lord, accompanied by his followers, had disappeared, O Lord of the Yādavas, the sage, having come to the hermitage, spoke this to me here.)
After the Lord, along with his attendants, had withdrawn, O Lord of the Yādavas, the sage came to the hermitage and told me this here. (13-16-72)
यानि च प्रथितान्यादौ तण्डिराख्यातवान्मम। नामानि मानवश्रेष्ठ तानि त्वं शृणु सिद्धये ॥१३-१६-७३॥
yāni ca prathitāny ādau taṇḍir ākhyātavān mama। nāmāni mānavaśreṣṭha tāni tvaṃ śṛṇu siddhaye ॥13-16-73॥
[यानि (yāni) - which; (neuter plural); च (ca) - and; प्रथितानि (prathitāni) - well-known; आदौ (ādau) - at first; in the beginning; तण्डिरा (taṇḍirā) - Taṇḍira; (proper name); आख्यातवान् (ākhyātavān) - has declared; मम (mama) - my; नामानि (nāmāni) - names; (neuter plural); मानवश्रेष्ठ (mānavaśreṣṭha) - O best of men; तानि (tāni) - those; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; शृणु (śṛṇu) - hear; सिद्धये (siddhaye) - for success;]
(Which and well-known at first Taṇḍira has declared my names, O best of men, those you hear for success.)
O best of men, listen to those names of mine which Taṇḍira first declared and which are well-known, for your success. (13-16-73)
दश नामसहस्राणि वेदेष्वाह पितामहः। शर्वस्य शास्त्रेषु तथा दश नामशतानि वै ॥१३-१६-७४॥
daśa nāmasahasrāṇi vedeṣvāha pitāmahaḥ। śarvasya śāstreṣu tathā daśa nāmaśatāni vai ॥13-16-74॥
[दश (daśa) - ten; नामसहस्राणि (nāmasahasrāṇi) - name-thousands; वेदेषु (vedeṣu) - in the Vedas; आह (āha) - said; पितामहः (pitāmahaḥ) - the Grandfather (Brahmā); शर्वस्य (śarvasya) - of Śarva (Śiva); शास्त्रेषु (śāstreṣu) - in the śāstras; तथा (tathā) - likewise; दश (daśa) - ten; नामशतानि (nāmaśatāni) - name-hundreds; वै (vai) - indeed;]
(Ten name-thousands in the Vedas said the Grandfather; of Śarva in the śāstras likewise ten name-hundreds indeed. (13-16-74))
The Grandfather (Brahmā) declared ten thousand names in the Vedas, and likewise, for Śarva (Śiva), ten hundred names in the śāstras indeed. (13-16-74)
गुह्यानीमानि नामानि तण्डिर्भगवतोऽच्युत। देवप्रसादाद्देवेश पुरा प्राह महात्मने ॥१३-१६-७५॥
guhyānīmāni nāmāni taṇḍirbhagavato'cyuta। devaprasādāddeveśa purā prāha mahātmane ॥13-16-75॥
[गुह्यानि (guhyāni) - secret; hidden; इमानि (imāni) - these; नामानि (nāmāni) - names; तण्डिः (taṇḍiḥ) - Taṇḍi (sage's name); भगवतः (bhagavataḥ) - of the Lord; अच्युत (acyuta) - Acyuta; देवप्रसादात् (devaprasādāt) - by the grace of the gods; देवेश (deveśa) - O Lord of the gods; पुरा (purā) - formerly; प्राह (prāha) - spoke; महात्मने (mahātmane) - to the great-souled one;]
