तीर्थानां दर्शनं श्रेयः स्नानं च भरतर्षभ। श्रवणं च महाप्राज्ञ श्रोतुमिच्छामि तत्त्वतः ॥१३-२६-१॥
tīrthānāṃ darśanaṃ śreyaḥ snānaṃ ca bharatarṣabha। śravaṇaṃ ca mahāprājña śrotumicchāmi tattvataḥ ॥13-26-1॥
[तीर्थानां (tīrthānām) - of sacred fords; दर्शनं (darśanam) - seeing; श्रेयः (śreyaḥ) - better; स्नानं (snānam) - bathing; च (ca) - and; भरतर्षभ (bharatarṣabha) - O bull among the Bharatas; श्रवणं (śravaṇam) - hearing; च (ca) - and; महाप्राज्ञ (mahāprājña) - O greatly wise one; श्रोतुम् (śrotum) - to hear; इच्छामि (icchāmi) - I desire; तत्त्वतः (tattvataḥ) - in reality;]
(Of sacred fords seeing is better than bathing, and O bull among the Bharatas, hearing and O greatly wise one, I desire to hear in reality.)
O bull among the Bharatas, seeing sacred fords is better than bathing; and O greatly wise one, I wish to hear in reality about hearing. (13-26-1)
पृथिव्यां यानि तीर्थानि पुण्यानि भरतर्षभ। वक्तुमर्हसि मे तानि श्रोतास्मि नियतः प्रभो ॥१३-२६-२॥
pṛthivyāṃ yāni tīrthāni puṇyāni bharatarṣabha। vaktum arhasi me tāni śrotāsmi niyataḥ prabho ॥13-26-2॥
[पृथिव्यां (pṛthivyām) - on the earth; यानि (yāni) - which; तीर्थानि (tīrthāni) - holy places; पुण्यानि (puṇyāni) - meritorious; भरतर्षभ (bharatarṣabha) - O best of the Bharatas; वक्तुम् (vaktum) - to speak; अर्हसि (arhasi) - you are worthy; मे (me) - to me; तानि (tāni) - those; श्रोतास्मि (śrotāsmi) - I am to hear; नियतः (niyataḥ) - with discipline; प्रभो (prabho) - O lord;]
(On the earth which holy places meritorious O best of the Bharatas to speak you are worthy to me those I am to hear with discipline O lord.)
O best of the Bharatas, O lord, you are worthy to tell me of those meritorious holy places on earth; I am ready to listen with discipline. (13-26-2)

इममङ्गिरसा प्रोक्तं तीर्थवंशं महाद्युते। श्रोतुमर्हसि भद्रं ते प्राप्स्यसे धर्ममुत्तमम् ॥१३-२६-३॥
imamaṅgirasā proktaṃ tīrthavaṃśaṃ mahādyute। śrotumarhasi bhadraṃ te prāpsyase dharmamuttamam ॥13-26-3॥
[इमम् (imam) - this (object); अङ्गिरसा (aṅgirasā) - by Aṅgiras; प्रोक्तं (proktaṃ) - spoken; said; तीर्थवंशं (tīrthavaṃśaṃ) - lineage of sacred places; महाद्युते (mahādyute) - O greatly radiant one; श्रोतुम् (śrotum) - to hear; अर्हसि (arhasi) - you are worthy; भद्रं (bhadraṃ) - good; auspicious; ते (te) - to you; प्राप्स्यसे (prāpsyase) - you will obtain; धर्मम् (dharmam) - dharma; righteousness; उत्तमम् (uttamam) - supreme; highest;]
(This lineage of sacred places, spoken by Aṅgiras, O greatly radiant one, you are worthy to hear; good will be to you; you will obtain the supreme dharma.)
O greatly radiant one, you are worthy to hear this lineage of sacred places spoken by Aṅgiras; auspiciousness to you, you will attain the highest dharma. (13-26-3)
तपोवनगतं विप्रमभिगम्य महामुनिम्। पप्रच्छाङ्गिरसं वीर गौतमः संशितव्रतः ॥१३-२६-४॥
tapovanagataṃ vipramabhigamya mahāmunim। papracchāṅgirasaṃ vīra gautamaḥ saṃśitavrataḥ ॥13-26-4॥
[तपोवनगतं (tapovanagataṃ) - having gone to the forest of austerities; विप्रम् (vipram) - the brāhmaṇa; अभिगम्य (abhigamya) - having approached; महामुनिम् (mahāmunim) - the great sage; पप्रच्छ (papraccha) - asked; आङ्गिरसं (āṅgirasaṃ) - the descendant of Aṅgiras; वीर (vīra) - the hero; गौतमः (gautamaḥ) - Gautama; संशितव्रतः (saṃśitavrataḥ) - firm in vows;]
(Having gone to the forest of austerities, having approached the brāhmaṇa, the great sage, the hero Gautama, firm in vows, asked the descendant of Aṅgiras.)
Gautama, the heroic sage firm in his vows, went to the forest of austerities, approached the brāhmaṇa, the great sage, and asked the descendant of Aṅgiras. (13-26-4)
अस्ति मे भगवन्कश्चित्तीर्थेभ्यो धर्मसंशयः। तत्सर्वं श्रोतुमिच्छामि तन्मे शंस महामुने ॥१३-२६-५॥
asti me bhagavan kaścit tīrthebhyaḥ dharma-saṁśayaḥ। tat sarvaṁ śrotum icchāmi tan me śaṁsa mahā-mune ॥13-26-5॥
[अस्ति (asti) - there is; मे (me) - to me; भगवन् (bhagavan) - O revered one; कश्चित् (kaścit) - some; तीर्थेभ्यः (tīrthebhyaḥ) - regarding the sacred places; धर्म (dharma) - dharma; संशयः (saṁśayaḥ) - doubt; तत् (tat) - that; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; श्रोतुम् (śrotum) - to hear; इच्छामि (icchāmi) - I wish; तत् (tan) - that; मे (me) - to me; शंस (śaṁsa) - tell; महामुने (mahā-mune) - O great sage;]
(There is to me, O revered one, some doubt regarding the sacred places and dharma; that all to hear I wish; that to me tell, O great sage.)
O revered one, I have some doubt regarding dharma and the sacred places. I wish to hear all about that; please tell me everything, O great sage. (13-26-5)
उपस्पृश्य फलं किं स्यात्तेषु तीर्थेषु वै मुने। प्रेत्यभावे महाप्राज्ञ तद्यथास्ति तथा वद ॥१३-२६-६॥
upaspṛśya phalaṃ kiṃ syāt teṣu tīrtheṣu vai mune. pretyabhāve mahāprājña tadyathāsti tathā vada ॥13-26-6॥
[उपस्पृश्य (upaspṛśya) - having touched; (with water, etc.); फलं (phalaṃ) - fruit; result; किं (kiṃ) - what; स्यात् (syāt) - would be; might be; तेषु (teṣu) - in those; तीर्थेषु (tīrtheṣu) - in holy places; in sacred fords; वै (vai) - indeed; truly; मुने (mune) - O sage; प्रेत्यभावे (pretyabhāve) - in the state after death; in the afterlife; महाप्राज्ञ (mahāprājña) - O greatly wise one; तद् (tad) - that; यथा (yathā) - as; in what manner; अस्ति (asti) - is; exists; तथा (tathā) - so; thus; वद (vada) - speak; tell;]
(Having touched, what fruit would there be in those holy places, indeed, O sage? In the state after death, O greatly wise one, that as it is, so speak.)
O sage, having touched (the water), what result is obtained in those holy places? O greatly wise one, in the afterlife, tell me exactly as it is. (13-26-6)
अङ्गिरा उवाच॥

सप्ताहं चन्द्रभागां वै वितस्तामूर्मिमालिनीम्। विगाह्य वै निराहारो निर्ममो मुनिवद्भवेत् ॥१३-२६-७॥
saptāhaṃ candrabhāgāṃ vai vitastāmūrmimālinīm। vigāhya vai nirāhāro nirmamo munivadbhavet ॥13-26-7॥
[सप्ताहम् (saptāham) - seven days; चन्द्रभागाम् (candrabhāgām) - the river Candrabhāgā; वै (vai) - indeed; वितस्ताम् (vitastām) - the river Vitastā; ऊर्मि-मालिनीम् (ūrmimālinīm) - adorned with waves; विगाह्य (vigāhya) - having entered; वै (vai) - indeed; निराहारः (nirāhāraḥ) - without food; निर्ममः (nirmamaḥ) - without possessiveness; मुनिवत् (munivat) - like a sage; भवेत् (bhavet) - should become;]
(For seven days, indeed, the Candrabhāgā and the Vitastā, adorned with waves, having entered, indeed, without food, without possessiveness, like a sage, one should become.)
For seven days, one should enter the Candrabhāgā and Vitastā rivers, adorned with waves, and, without food and without possessiveness, become like a sage. (13-26-7)
काश्मीरमण्डले नद्यो याः पतन्ति महानदम्। ता नदीः सिन्धुमासाद्य शीलवान्स्वर्गमाप्नुयात् ॥१३-२६-८॥
kāśmīramaṇḍale nadyo yāḥ patanti mahānadam। tā nadīḥ sindhum āsādya śīlavān svargam āpnuyāt ॥13-26-8॥
[काश्मीरमण्डले (kāśmīramaṇḍale) - in the region of Kashmir; नद्यः (nadyaḥ) - rivers; याः (yāḥ) - which; पतन्ति (patanti) - fall; महानदम् (mahānadam) - the great river; ता (tā) - those; नदीः (nadīḥ) - rivers; सिन्धुम् (sindhum) - Sindhu (Indus); आसाद्य (āsādya) - having reached; शीलवान् (śīlavān) - virtuous person; स्वर्गम् (svargam) - heaven; आप्नुयात् (āpnuyāt) - may attain;]
(In the region of Kashmir, the rivers which fall into the great river, those rivers having reached the Sindhu, a virtuous person may attain heaven.)
In the region of Kashmir, the rivers that flow into the great river and then reach the Sindhu, a virtuous person who bathes in them may attain heaven. (13-26-8)
पुष्करं च प्रभासं च नैमिषं सागरोदकम्। देविकामिन्द्रमार्गं च स्वर्णबिन्दुं विगाह्य च ॥ विबोध्यते विमानस्थः सोऽप्सरोभिरभिष्टुतः ॥१३-२६-९॥
puṣkaraṃ ca prabhāsaṃ ca naimiṣaṃ sāgarodakam। devikām indramārgaṃ ca svarṇabinduṃ vigāhya ca ॥ vibodhyate vimānasthaḥ so'psarobhir abhiṣṭutaḥ ॥13-26-9॥
[पुष्करं (puṣkaraṃ) - Puṣkara; (a sacred place); च (ca) - and; प्रभासं (prabhāsaṃ) - Prabhāsa; (a sacred place); च (ca) - and; नैमिषं (naimiṣaṃ) - Naimiṣa; (a sacred place); सागर-उदकम् (sāgara-udakam) - ocean-water; देविकाम् (devikām) - Devikā; (a sacred river); इन्द्रमार्गं (indramārgaṃ) - Indra's path; च (ca) - and; स्वर्णबिन्दुं (svarṇabinduṃ) - Swarna-bindu; (a sacred place); विगाह्य (vigāhya) - having entered; च (ca) - and; विबोध्यते (vibodhyate) - is awakened; विमानस्थः (vimānasthaḥ) - being situated in an aerial car; सः (saḥ) - he; अप्सरोभिः (apsarobhiḥ) - by Apsarases; अभिष्टुतः (abhiṣṭutaḥ) - praised;]
(Puṣkara and Prabhāsa and Naimiṣa, ocean-water, Devikā, Indra's path and Swarna-bindu, having entered and, is awakened, being situated in an aerial car, he, by Apsarases, praised.)
He, having entered Puṣkara, Prabhāsa, Naimiṣa, the ocean-water, Devikā, Indra's path, and Swarna-bindu, is awakened in an aerial car and praised by the Apsarases. (13-26-9)
हिरण्यबिन्दुं विक्षोभ्य प्रयतश्चाभिवाद्य तम्। कुशेशयं च देवत्वं पूयते तस्य किल्बिषम् ॥१३-२६-१०॥
hiraṇyabinduṃ vikṣobhya prayataścābhivādya tam। kuśeśayaṃ ca devatvaṃ pūyate tasya kilbiṣam ॥13-26-10॥
[हिरण्यबिन्दुं (hiraṇyabinduṃ) - golden drop; (i.e., water offered in ritual); विक्षोभ्य (vikṣobhya) - having agitated; प्रयतः (prayataḥ) - purified; च (ca) - and; अभिवाद्य (abhivādya) - having saluted; तम् (tam) - him; कुशेशयम् (kuśeśayam) - Kuśa seat; च (ca) - and; देवत्वं (devatvam) - divinity; पूयते (pūyate) - is purified; तस्य (tasya) - his; किल्बिषम् (kilbiṣam) - sin;]
(Having agitated the golden drop, purified and having saluted him, and the Kuśa seat and divinity, his sin is purified.)
After agitating the golden drop (water), the purified person, having saluted him and the Kuśa seat, attains divinity, and his sin is purified. (13-26-10)
इन्द्रतोयां समासाद्य गन्धमादनसंनिधौ। करतोयां कुरङ्गेषु त्रिरात्रोपोषितो नरः ॥ अश्वमेधमवाप्नोति विगाह्य नियतः शुचिः ॥१३-२६-११॥
indratoyāṃ samāsādya gandhamādanasannidhau। karatoyāṃ kuraṅgeṣu trirātrupoṣito naraḥ ॥ aśvamedhamavāpnoti vigāhya niyataḥ śuciḥ ॥13-26-11॥
[इन्द्रतोयां (indratoyām) - in the Indratoyā (river); समासाद्य (samāsādya) - having reached; गन्धमादनसंनिधौ (gandhamādanasannidhau) - in the vicinity of Gandhamādana; करतोयां (karatoyām) - in the Karatoyā (river); कुरङ्गेषु (kuraṅgeṣu) - among the Kuranga (deer); त्रिरात्रोपोषितः (trirātrupoṣitaḥ) - having fasted for three nights; नरः (naraḥ) - man; अश्वमेधम् (aśvamedham) - the Aśvamedha (horse sacrifice); अवाप्नोति (avāpnoti) - obtains; विगाह्य (vigāhya) - having entered; नियतः (niyataḥ) - self-controlled; शुचिः (śuciḥ) - pure;]
(Having reached the Indratoyā in the vicinity of Gandhamādana, in the Karatoyā among the Kuranga, a man who has fasted for three nights, having entered, self-controlled and pure, obtains the Aśvamedha.)
If a man, self-controlled and pure, having fasted for three nights, enters the Indratoyā near Gandhamādana or the Karatoyā among the Kuranga, he attains the merit of the Aśvamedha sacrifice. (13-26-11)
गङ्गाद्वारे कुशावर्ते बिल्वके नेमिपर्वते। तथा कनखले स्नात्वा धूतपाप्मा दिवं व्रजेत् ॥१३-२६-१२॥
gaṅgādvāre kuśāvarte bilvake nemiparvate। tathā kanakhale snātvā dhūtapāpmā divaṃ vrajet ॥13-26-12॥
[गङ्गाद्वारे (gaṅgādvāre) - at the gate of the Gaṅgā; कुशावर्ते (kuśāvarte) - at Kuśāvarta; बिल्वके (bilvake) - at Bilvaka; नेमिपर्वते (nemiparvate) - at Nemi mountain; तथा (tathā) - likewise; कनखले (kanakhale) - at Kanakhala; स्नात्वा (snātvā) - having bathed; धूतपाप्मा (dhūtapāpmā) - one whose sins are washed away; दिवं (divaṃ) - to heaven; व्रजेत् (vrajet) - should go;]
(At the gate of the Gaṅgā, at Kuśāvarta, at Bilvaka, at Nemi mountain, likewise at Kanakhala, having bathed, one whose sins are washed away should go to heaven.)
One who bathes at the gate of the Gaṅgā, Kuśāvarta, Bilvaka, Nemi mountain, and likewise at Kanakhala, with sins washed away, attains heaven. (13-26-12)
अपां ह्रद उपस्पृश्य वाजपेयफलं लभेत्। ब्रह्मचारी जितक्रोधः सत्यसन्धस्त्वहिंसकः ॥१३-२६-१३॥
apāṃ hrada upaspṛśya vājapeyaphalaṃ labhet। brahmacārī jitakrodhaḥ satyasandhastvahiṃsakaḥ ॥13-26-13॥
[अपां (apāṃ) - of waters; ह्रद (hrada) - lake; उपस्पृश्य (upaspṛśya) - having touched; वाजपेयफलं (vājapeyaphalaṃ) - fruit of the Vājapeya (sacrifice); लभेत् (labhet) - may obtain; ब्रह्मचारी (brahmacārī) - celibate student; जितक्रोधः (jitakrodhaḥ) - one who has conquered anger; सत्यसन्धः (satyasandhaḥ) - truthful; त्व (tva) - and; अहिंसकः (ahiṃsakaḥ) - non-violent;]
(Having touched the lake of waters, one may obtain the fruit of the Vājapeya; a celibate student, who has conquered anger, is truthful and non-violent.)
After touching the lake of waters, one may attain the fruit of the Vājapeya sacrifice; a celibate student who has conquered anger, is truthful, and non-violent. (13-26-13)
यत्र भागीरथी गङ्गा भजते दिशमुत्तराम्। महेश्वरस्य निष्ठाने यो नरस्त्वभिषिच्यते ॥ एकमासं निराहारः स्वयं पश्यति देवताः ॥१३-२६-१४॥
yatra bhāgīrathī gaṅgā bhajate diśam uttarām। maheśvarasya niṣṭhāne yo naraḥ tv abhiṣicyate ॥ ekamāsaṃ nirāhāraḥ svayaṃ paśyati devatāḥ ॥13-26-14॥
[यत्र (yatra) - where; भागीरथी (bhāgīrathī) - Bhagirathi (Ganga); गङ्गा (gaṅgā) - Ganga; भजते (bhajate) - approaches; दिशम् (diśam) - direction; उत्तराम् (uttarām) - northern; महेश्वरस्य (maheśvarasya) - of Maheśvara (Śiva); निष्ठाने (niṣṭhāne) - in the seat; यः (yaḥ) - who; नरः (naraḥ) - man; त्व (tv) - indeed; अभिषिच्यते (abhiṣicyate) - is anointed; एकमासम् (ekamāsaṃ) - one month; निराहारः (nirāhāraḥ) - without food; स्वयम् (svayam) - himself; पश्यति (paśyati) - sees; देवताः (devatāḥ) - the deities;]
(Where Bhagirathi Ganga approaches the northern direction, in the seat of Maheśvara, the man who is indeed anointed, for one month, without food, himself sees the deities.)
Where the Bhagirathi Ganga turns northward, in the seat of Maheśvara, the man who is anointed there and remains without food for one month, himself sees the deities. (13-26-14)
सप्तगङ्गे त्रिगङ्गे च इन्द्रमार्गे च तर्पयन्। सुधां वै लभते भोक्तुं यो नरो जायते पुनः ॥१३-२६-१५॥
saptagaṅge trigaṅge ca indramārge ca tarpayan। sudhāṃ vai labhate bhoktuṃ yo naro jāyate punaḥ ॥13-26-15॥
[सप्तगङ्गे (saptagaṅge) - in the seven Gaṅgās; त्रिगङ्गे (trigaṅge) - in the three Gaṅgās; च (ca) - and; इन्द्रमार्गे (indramārge) - in the path of Indra; च (ca) - and; तर्पयन् (tarpayan) - offering oblations; सुधां (sudhāṃ) - nectar; वै (vai) - indeed; लभते (labhate) - obtains; भोक्तुं (bhoktuṃ) - to enjoy; यः (yaḥ) - who; नरः (naraḥ) - man; जायते (jāyate) - is born; पुनः (punaḥ) - again;]
(In the seven Gaṅgās, in the three Gaṅgās, and in the path of Indra, offering oblations, nectar indeed obtains to enjoy, who man is born again.)
Whoever, being born again, offers oblations in the seven Gaṅgās, the three Gaṅgās, and the path of Indra, indeed obtains to enjoy nectar. (13-26-15)
महाश्रम उपस्पृश्य योऽग्निहोत्रपरः शुचिः। एकमासं निराहारः सिद्धिं मासेन स व्रजेत् ॥१३-२६-१६॥
mahāśrama upaspṛśya yo'gnihotraparaḥ śuciḥ। ekamāsaṃ nirāhāraḥ siddhiṃ māsena sa vrajet ॥13-26-16॥
[महाश्रम (mahāśrama) - great-austerity; उपस्पृश्य (upaspṛśya) - having touched (purified oneself); यः (yaḥ) - who; अग्निहोत्रपरः (agnihotraparaḥ) - devoted-to-agnihotra; शुचिः (śuciḥ) - pure; एकमासं (ekamāsaṃ) - one-month; निराहारः (nirāhāraḥ) - without-food; सिद्धिं (siddhiṃ) - perfection; मासेन (māsena) - in-a-month; स (sa) - he; व्रजेत् (vrajet) - should-attain;]
(Great-austerity having touched (purified oneself) who devoted-to-agnihotra pure one-month without-food perfection in-a-month he should-attain.)
He who, after performing great austerity and purifying himself, is devoted to Agnihotra and is pure, if he remains without food for one month, should attain perfection within a month. (13-26-16)
महाह्रद उपस्पृश्य भृगुतुङ्गे त्वलोलुपः। त्रिरात्रोपोषितो भूत्वा मुच्यते ब्रह्महत्यया ॥१३-२६-१७॥
mahāhrada upaspṛśya bhṛgutunge tvalolupaḥ। trirātroṣito bhūtvā mucyate brahmahatyayā ॥13-26-17॥
[महाह्रद (mahāhrada) - great lake; उपस्पृश्य (upaspṛśya) - having bathed; भृगुतुङ्गे (bhṛgutunge) - at Bhṛgutunga; त्वलोलुपः (tvalolupaḥ) - not greedy for sensual pleasures; त्रिरात्रोपोषितः (trirātroṣitaḥ) - having fasted for three nights; भूत्वा (bhūtvā) - having become; मुच्यते (mucyate) - is released; ब्रह्महत्यया (brahmahatyayā) - from the killing of a Brāhmaṇa;]
(Having bathed in the great lake at Bhṛgutunga, not greedy for sensual pleasures, having fasted for three nights, having become, is released from the killing of a Brāhmaṇa.)
One who bathes in the great lake at Bhṛgutunga, who is not greedy for sensual pleasures, and who has fasted for three nights, is freed from the sin of killing a Brāhmaṇa. (13-26-17)
कन्याकूप उपस्पृश्य बलाकायां कृतोदकः। देवेषु कीर्तिं लभते यशसा च विराजते ॥१३-२६-१८॥
kanyākūpa upaspṛśya balākāyāṃ kṛtodakaḥ। deveṣu kīrtiṃ labhate yaśasā ca virājate ॥13-26-18॥
[कन्याकूप (kanyākūpa) - Kanyākūpa; (name of a sacred well); उपस्पृश्य (upaspṛśya) - having touched; having bathed; (by approaching and touching water); बलाकायाम् (balākāyām) - in Balākā; (name of a place); कृतोदकः (kṛtodakaḥ) - having performed water-rite; having offered water; (oblations); देवेषु (deveṣu) - among the gods; in the gods; कीर्तिम् (kīrtim) - fame; glory; लभते (labhate) - obtains; gains; यशसा (yaśasā) - by fame; by glory; च (ca) - and; विराजते (virājate) - shines; becomes illustrious;]
(Having touched Kanyākūpa, having performed water-rite in Balākā, one obtains fame among the gods and shines by glory.)
After touching the sacred well of Kanyākūpa and performing the water oblation at Balākā, one attains fame among the gods and shines with glory. (13-26-18)
देशकाल उपस्पृश्य तथा सुन्दरिकाह्रदे। अश्विभ्यां रूपवर्चस्यं प्रेत्य वै लभते नरः ॥१३-२६-१९॥
deśakāla upaspṛśya tathā sundarikāhrade। aśvibhyāṃ rūpavarcasyam pretya vai labhate naraḥ ॥13-26-19॥
[देशकाल (deśakāla) - place and time; उपस्पृश्य (upaspṛśya) - having touched; तथा (tathā) - thus; सुन्दरिकाह्रदे (sundarikā-hrade) - in the Sundarikā lake; अश्विभ्यां (aśvibhyām) - by the two Aśvins; रूपवर्चस्यं (rūpavarcasyam) - beauty and radiance; प्रेत्य (pretya) - having departed (after death); वै (vai) - indeed; लभते (labhate) - obtains; नरः (naraḥ) - man;]
(Having touched (bathed at) the place and time thus in the Sundarikā lake, by the two Aśvins, beauty and radiance, having departed (after death), indeed, obtains, man.)
When a man bathes at the proper place and time in the Sundarikā lake, he is granted beauty and radiance by the two Aśvins, and indeed attains these after death. (13-26-19)
महागङ्गामुपस्पृश्य कृत्तिकाङ्गारके तथा। पक्षमेकं निराहारः स्वर्गमाप्नोति निर्मलः ॥१३-२६-२०॥
mahāgaṅgām-upaspṛśya kṛttikāṅgārake tathā। pakṣam-ekaṃ nirāhāraḥ svargam-āpnoti nirmalaḥ ॥13-26-20॥
[महागङ्गाम् (mahāgaṅgām) - great Ganga (river); उपस्पृश्य (upaspṛśya) - having touched; approached; कृत्तिकाङ्गारके (kṛttikāṅgārake) - in Kṛttikā (lunar mansion) and Aṅgāraka (Mars); तथा (tathā) - likewise; in that way; पक्षम् (pakṣam) - fortnight; half-month; एकम् (ekam) - one; निराहारः (nirāhāraḥ) - without food; fasting; स्वर्गम् (svargam) - heaven; आप्नोति (āpnoti) - attains; reaches; निर्मलः (nirmalaḥ) - pure; spotless;]
(Having touched the great Ganga, likewise in Kṛttikā and Aṅgāraka, one who is without food for one fortnight attains pure heaven.)
One who, after touching the great Ganga, likewise during Kṛttikā and Aṅgāraka, fasts for one fortnight, attains pure heaven. (13-26-20)
वैमानिक उपस्पृश्य किङ्किणीकाश्रमे तथा। निवासेऽप्सरसां दिव्ये कामचारी महीयते ॥१३-२६-२१॥
vaimānika upaspṛśya kiṅkiṇīkāśrame tathā। nivāse'psarasāṃ divye kāmacārī mahīyate ॥13-26-21॥
[वैमानिक (vaimānika) - relating to aerial beings; उपस्पृश्य (upaspṛśya) - having touched; किङ्किणीकाश्रमे (kiṅkiṇīkāśrame) - in the hermitage of Kiṅkiṇikā; तथा (tathā) - likewise; निवासे (nivāse) - in the abode; अप्सरसाम् (apsarasām) - of the apsarases; दिव्ये (divye) - divine; कामचारी (kāmacārī) - moving at will; महीयते (mahīyate) - is honored;]
(Relating to aerial beings, having touched the hermitage of Kiṅkiṇikā likewise, in the abode of the apsarases, divine, moving at will, is honored.)
The one associated with aerial beings, having touched the hermitage of Kiṅkiṇikā and likewise in the divine abode of the apsarases, who moves at will, is honored. (13-26-21)
कालिकाश्रममासाद्य विपाशायां कृतोदकः। ब्रह्मचारी जितक्रोधस्त्रिरात्रान्मुच्यते भवात् ॥१३-२६-२२॥
kālikāśramam āsādya vipāśāyāṃ kṛtodakaḥ। brahmacārī jitakrodhas trirātrān mucyate bhavāt ॥13-26-22॥
[कालिकाश्रमम् (kālikāśramam) - Kālikā hermitage; आसाद्य (āsādya) - having reached; विपाशायाम् (vipāśāyām) - in the Vipāśā (river); कृतोदकः (kṛtodakaḥ) - having performed ablutions; ब्रह्मचारी (brahmacārī) - celibate student; जितक्रोधः (jitakrodhaḥ) - one who has conquered anger; त्रिरात्रान् (trirātrān) - for three nights; मुच्यते (mucyate) - is released; भवात् (bhavāt) - from worldly existence;]
(Having reached the Kālikā hermitage, having performed ablutions in the Vipāśā, the celibate student who has conquered anger is released from worldly existence for three nights.)
When a celibate student who has conquered anger reaches the Kālikā hermitage and performs ablutions in the Vipāśā river, he is freed from worldly existence for three nights. (13-26-22)
आश्रमे कृत्तिकानां तु स्नात्वा यस्तर्पयेत्पितॄन्। तोषयित्वा महादेवं निर्मलः स्वर्गमाप्नुयात् ॥१३-२६-२३॥
āśrame kṛttikānāṃ tu snātvā yas tarpayet pitṝn। toṣayitvā mahādevaṃ nirmalaḥ svargam āpnuyāt ॥13-26-23॥
[आश्रमे (āśrame) - in the hermitage; कृत्तिकानाम् (kṛttikānām) - of the Kṛttikās (Pleiades); तु (tu) - but; स्नात्वा (snātvā) - having bathed; यः (yaḥ) - who; तर्पयेत् (tarpayet) - should satisfy (with oblations); पितॄन् (pitṝn) - the ancestors; तोषयित्वा (toṣayitvā) - having pleased; महादेवं (mahādevaṃ) - Mahādeva (Śiva); निर्मलः (nirmalaḥ) - pure; स्वर्गम् (svargam) - heaven; आप्नुयात् (āpnuyāt) - may attain;]
(In the hermitage, of the Kṛttikās, but, having bathed, who should satisfy the ancestors, having pleased Mahādeva, pure, heaven may attain.)
Whoever, having bathed at the hermitage of the Kṛttikās, satisfies the ancestors and pleases Mahādeva, being pure, may attain heaven. (13-26-23)
महापुर उपस्पृश्य त्रिरात्रोपोषितो नरः। त्रसानां स्थावराणां च द्विपदानां भयं त्यजेत् ॥१३-२६-२४॥
mahāpura upaspṛśya trirātropoṣito naraḥ। trasānāṃ sthāvarāṇāṃ ca dvipadānāṃ bhayaṃ tyajet ॥13-26-24॥
[महापुर (mahāpura) - great river; उपस्पृश्य (upaspṛśya) - having touched; त्रिरात्रोपोषितः (trirātrapoṣitaḥ) - having fasted for three nights; नरः (naraḥ) - man; त्रसानाम् (trasānām) - of moving beings; स्थावराणाम् (sthāvarāṇām) - of stationary beings; च (ca) - and; द्विपदानाम् (dvipadānām) - of bipeds; भयम् (bhayam) - fear; त्यजेत् (tyajet) - should abandon;]
(Having touched the great river, a man who has fasted for three nights should abandon the fear of moving beings, stationary beings, and bipeds.)
After touching the great river and fasting for three nights, a man should give up fear of all moving creatures, stationary beings, and bipeds. (13-26-24)
देवदारुवने स्नात्वा धूतपाप्मा कृतोदकः। देवलोकमवाप्नोति सप्तरात्रोषितः शुचिः ॥१३-२६-२५॥
devadāruvane snātvā dhūtapāpmā kṛtodakaḥ। devalokam avāpnoti saptarātroṣitaḥ śuciḥ ॥13-26-25॥
[देवदारुवने (devadāruvane) - in the forest of deodar trees; स्नात्वा (snātvā) - having bathed; धूतपाप्मा (dhūtapāpmā) - one whose sins are washed away; कृतोदकः (kṛtodakaḥ) - having offered water; देवलोकम् (devalokam) - the world of the gods; अवाप्नोति (avāpnoti) - attains; सप्तरात्रोषितः (saptarātroṣitaḥ) - having stayed for seven nights; शुचिः (śuciḥ) - pure;]
(In the forest of deodar trees, having bathed, one whose sins are washed away, having offered water, attains the world of the gods, having stayed for seven nights, pure.)
One who, after bathing in the deodar forest, has washed away his sins, offered water, and remained pure for seven nights, attains the world of the gods. (13-26-25)
कौशन्ते च कुशस्तम्बे द्रोणशर्मपदे तथा। आपःप्रपतने स्नातः सेव्यते सोऽप्सरोगणैः ॥१३-२६-२६॥
kauśante ca kuśastambe droṇaśarmapade tathā। āpaḥprapatane snātaḥ sevyate so'psarogaṇaiḥ ॥13-26-26॥
[कौशन्ते (kauśante) - in Kauśanta; (a sacred place); च (ca) - and; कुशस्तम्बे (kuśastambe) - in Kuśastamba; (a sacred place); द्रोणशर्मपदे (droṇaśarmapade) - in Droṇaśarma's place; (a sacred place); तथा (tathā) - also; आपःप्रपतने (āpaḥprapatane) - at the water-fall; (āpaḥ - water; prapatana - falling); स्नातः (snātaḥ) - having bathed; सेव्यते (sevyate) - is served; सः (saḥ) - he; अप्सरोगणैः (apsarogaṇaiḥ) - by groups of apsarases; (apsaras - celestial nymph; gaṇa - group; instrumental plural);]
(In Kauśanta and in Kuśastamba, in Droṇaśarma's place also, at the water-fall, having bathed, he is served by groups of apsarases.)
He who bathes at Kauśanta, Kuśastamba, Droṇaśarma's place, and at the water-fall is served by groups of apsarases. (13-26-26)
चित्रकूटे जनस्थाने तथा मन्दाकिनीजले। विगाह्य वै निराहारो राजलक्ष्मीं निगच्छति ॥१३-२६-२७॥
citrakūṭe janasthāne tathā mandākinījale। vigāhya vai nirāhāro rājalakṣmīṃ nigacchati ॥13-26-27॥
[चित्रकूटे (citrakūṭe) - in Citrakūṭa; जनस्थाने (janasthāne) - in Janasthāna; तथा (tathā) - also; मन्दाकिनीजले (mandākinījale) - in the water of Mandākinī; विगाह्य (vigāhya) - having entered; वै (vai) - indeed; निराहारो (nirāhāraḥ) - without food; राजलक्ष्मीं (rājalakṣmīm) - royal fortune; निगच्छति (nigacchati) - he attains;]
(In Citrakūṭa, in Janasthāna, also in the water of Mandākinī, having entered indeed, without food, royal fortune he attains.)
Dwelling in Citrakūṭa, Janasthāna, and also in the waters of the Mandākinī, having entered them indeed and remaining without food, he attains royal fortune. (13-26-27)
श्यामायास्त्वाश्रमं गत्वा उष्य चैवाभिषिच्य च। त्रींस्त्रिरात्रान्स सन्धाय गन्धर्वनगरे वसेत् ॥१३-२६-२८॥
śyāmāyās tv āśramaṃ gatvā uṣya caiva abhiṣicya ca। trīṃs trirātrān sa sandhāya gandharvanagare vaset ॥13-26-28॥

(Having gone to Śyāmā's hermitage, having stayed and indeed having anointed, having completed three sets of three nights, he should dwell in the city of the Gandharvas. (13-26-28))
But after going to Śyāmā's hermitage, staying there and performing the anointing, and after completing three periods of three nights, he should reside in the city of the Gandharvas. (13-26-28)
रमण्यां च उपस्पृश्य तथा वै गन्धतारिके। एकमासं निराहारस्त्वन्तर्धानफलं लभेत् ॥१३-२६-२९॥
ramaṇyāṃ ca upaspṛśya tathā vai gandhatārike। ekamāsaṃ nirāhāras tv antardhāna-phalaṃ labhet ॥13-26-29॥
[रमण्यां (ramaṇyām) - in a beautiful place; च (ca) - and; उपस्पृश्य (upaspṛśya) - having touched; तथा (tathā) - thus; वै (vai) - indeed; गन्धतारिके (gandhatārike) - O Gandhatarika; एकमासं (ekamāsaṃ) - for one month; निराहारः (nirāhāraḥ) - without food; त्व् (tv) - but; अन्तर्धानफलं (antardhāna-phalaṃ) - the fruit of disappearance; लभेत् (labhet) - one obtains;]
(In a beautiful place and having touched thus indeed, O Gandhatarika, for one month, without food, but the fruit of disappearance one obtains.)
O Gandhatarika, by touching in a beautiful place in this way, if one remains without food for one month, one attains the fruit of disappearance. (13-26-29)
कौशिकीद्वारमासाद्य वायुभक्षस्त्वलोलुपः। एकविंशतिरात्रेण स्वर्गमारोहते नरः ॥१३-२६-३०॥
kauśikīdvāram āsādya vāyubhakṣas tvalolupaḥ। ekaviṃśatirātreṇa svargam ārohate naraḥ ॥13-26-30॥
[कौशिकीद्वारम् (kauśikīdvāram) - the gate of Kauśikī (the river); आसाद्य (āsādya) - having reached; वायुभक्षः (vāyubhakṣaḥ) - one who eats air; त्व (tva) - and; अलोलुपः (alolupaḥ) - not greedy; एकविंशतिरात्रेण (ekaviṃśatirātreṇa) - in twenty-one nights; स्वर्गम् (svargam) - heaven; आरोहते (ārohate) - ascends; नरः (naraḥ) - man;]
(Having reached the gate of Kauśikī, one who eats air and is not greedy, in twenty-one nights, a man ascends to heaven.)
If a man reaches the gate of the Kauśikī river, subsists on air and is free from greed, he ascends to heaven in twenty-one nights. (13-26-30)
मतङ्गवाप्यां यः स्नायादेकरात्रेण सिध्यति। विगाहति ह्यनालम्बमन्धकं वै सनातनम् ॥१३-२६-३१॥
mataṅgavāpyāṃ yaḥ snāyed ekarātreṇa sidhyati। vigāhati hy anālambam andhakaṃ vai sanātanam ॥13-26-31॥
[मतङ्गवाप्यां (mataṅgavāpyām) - in the tank of Matanga; यः (yaḥ) - who; स्नायात् (snāyāt) - may bathe; एकरात्रेण (ekarātreṇa) - in one night; सिध्यति (sidhyati) - attains success; विगाहति (vigāhati) - enters; हि (hi) - indeed; अनालम्बम् (anālambam) - supportless; अन्धकं (andhakam) - darkness; वै (vai) - truly; सनातनम् (sanātanam) - eternal;]
(In the tank of Matanga, who may bathe in one night attains success. He indeed enters the supportless eternal darkness truly.)
Whoever bathes in the Matanga tank for one night attains success; indeed, he truly enters the supportless, eternal darkness. (13-26-31)
नैमिषे स्वर्गतीर्थे च उपस्पृश्य जितेन्द्रियः। फलं पुरुषमेधस्य लभेन्मासं कृतोदकः ॥१३-२६-३२॥
naimiṣe svargatīrthe ca upaspṛśya jitendriyaḥ। phalaṃ puruṣamedhasya labhenmāsaṃ kṛtodakaḥ ॥13-26-32॥
[नैमिषे (naimiṣe) - in Naimisha; स्वर्गतीर्थे (svargatīrthe) - at the holy place leading to heaven; च (ca) - and; उपस्पृश्य (upaspṛśya) - having touched (water); जितेन्द्रियः (jitendriyaḥ) - one who has conquered the senses; फलं (phalaṃ) - fruit; पुरुषमेधस्य (puruṣamedhasya) - of the Puruṣamedha sacrifice; लभेत् (labhet) - may obtain; मासं (māsaṃ) - for a month; कृतोदकः (kṛtodakaḥ) - one who has performed the water-rite;]
(In Naimisha, at the holy place leading to heaven, and having touched (water), one who has conquered the senses, the fruit of the Puruṣamedha sacrifice may obtain for a month, one who has performed the water-rite.)
In Naimisha, at the holy place leading to heaven, one who has conquered the senses and has performed the water-rite, after touching water, may obtain for a month the fruit of the Puruṣamedha sacrifice. (13-26-32)
गङ्गाह्रद उपस्पृश्य तथा चैवोत्पलावने। अश्वमेधमवाप्नोति तत्र मासं कृतोदकः ॥१३-२६-३३॥
gaṅgā-hrada upaspṛśya tathā caiva-utpalāvane। aśvamedham-avāpnoti tatra māsaṃ kṛtodakaḥ ॥13-26-33॥
[गङ्गा (gaṅgā) - Gaṅgā river; ह्रद (hrada) - lake; उपस्पृश्य (upaspṛśya) - having touched; तथा (tathā) - likewise; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; उत्पलावने (utpalāvane) - in the lotus-pond; अश्वमेधम् (aśvamedham) - Aśvamedha sacrifice; अवाप्नोति (avāpnoti) - attains; तत्र (tatra) - there; मासम् (māsaṃ) - month; कृतोदकः (kṛtodakaḥ) - one who has offered water;]
(Having touched the Gaṅgā lake and likewise indeed in the lotus-pond, one who has offered water there for a month attains the Aśvamedha sacrifice.)
By bathing in the Gaṅgā lake and similarly in the lotus-pond, one who offers water there for a month attains the merit of the Aśvamedha sacrifice. (13-26-33)
गङ्गायमुनयोस्तीर्थे तथा कालञ्जरे गिरौ। षष्टिह्रद उपस्पृश्य दानं नान्यद्विशिष्यते ॥१३-२६-३४॥
gaṅgā-yamunayos tīrthe tathā kālañjare girau। ṣaṣṭi-hrada upaspṛśya dānaṃ nānyad viśiṣyate ॥13-26-34॥
[गङ्गा (gaṅgā) - Gaṅgā river; यमुनयोः (yamunayoh) - of Yamunā (river); तीर्थे (tīrthe) - at the sacred ford; तथा (tathā) - also; कालञ्जरे (kālañjare) - on Kālañjara (mountain); गिरौ (girau) - on the mountain; षष्टिह्रद (ṣaṣṭi-hrada) - at the sixty lakes; उपस्पृश्य (upaspṛśya) - having touched (bathed); दानं (dānaṃ) - gift; न (na) - not; अन्यत् (anyad) - other; विशिष्यते (viśiṣyate) - excels;]
(At the sacred ford of Gaṅgā and Yamunā, also on Kālañjara mountain, having touched (bathed) at the sixty lakes, no other gift excels.)
No other gift surpasses one given after bathing at the sacred ford of Gaṅgā and Yamunā, or on Kālañjara mountain, or at the sixty lakes. (13-26-34)
दश तीर्थसहस्राणि तिस्रः कोट्यस्तथापराः। समागच्छन्ति माघ्यां तु प्रयागे भरतर्षभ ॥१३-२६-३५॥
daśa tīrthasahasrāṇi tisraḥ koṭyastathāparāḥ। samāgacchanti māghyāṃ tu prayāge bharatarṣabha ॥13-26-35॥
[दश (daśa) - ten; तीर्थसहस्राणि (tīrthasahasrāṇi) - holy place-thousands; तिस्रः (tisraḥ) - three (feminine); कोट्यः (koṭyaḥ) - crores; तथा (tathā) - likewise; पराः (parāḥ) - others; समागच्छन्ति (samāgacchanti) - come together; माघ्यां (māghyāṃ) - in Māgha (month); तु (tu) - but; प्रयागे (prayāge) - at Prayāga; भरतर्षभ (bharatarṣabha) - bull among the Bharatas;]
(Ten thousands of holy places, three crores likewise others, come together in Māgha but at Prayāga, bull among the Bharatas.)
O best of the Bharatas, at Prayāga during the month of Māgha, ten thousand holy places and three crore others likewise all assemble together. (13-26-35)
माघमासं प्रयागे तु नियतः संशितव्रतः। स्नात्वा तु भरतश्रेष्ठ निर्मलः स्वर्गमाप्नुयात् ॥१३-२६-३६॥
māghamāsaṃ prayāge tu niyataḥ saṃśitavrataḥ। snātvā tu bharataśreṣṭha nirmalaḥ svargamāpnuyāt ॥13-26-36॥
[माघमासं (māghamāsaṃ) - month of Māgha; प्रयागे (prayāge) - at Prayāga; तु (tu) - but; नियतः (niyataḥ) - self-controlled; संशितव्रतः (saṃśitavrataḥ) - firm in vow; स्नात्वा (snātvā) - having bathed; तु (tu) - but; भरतश्रेष्ठ (bharataśreṣṭha) - O best of the Bharatas; निर्मलः (nirmalaḥ) - pure; स्वर्गम् (svargam) - heaven; आप्नुयात् (āpnuyāt) - may attain;]
(Month of Māgha at Prayāga but self-controlled firm-in-vow having bathed but O best of the Bharatas pure heaven may attain.)
O best of the Bharatas, one who is pure, self-controlled, and firm in vow, having bathed at Prayāga in the month of Māgha, may attain heaven. (13-26-36)
मरुद्गण उपस्पृश्य पितॄणामाश्रमे शुचिः। वैवस्वतस्य तीर्थे च तीर्थभूतो भवेन्नरः ॥१३-२६-३७॥
marudgaṇa upaspṛśya pitṝṇām āśrame śuciḥ। vaivasvatasya tīrthe ca tīrthabhūto bhaven naraḥ ॥13-26-37॥
[मरुद्गण (marudgaṇa) - Maruts-group; उपस्पृश्य (upaspṛśya) - having touched; पितॄणाम् (pitṝṇām) - of the ancestors; आश्रमे (āśrame) - in the hermitage; शुचिः (śuciḥ) - pure; वैवस्वतस्य (vaivasvatasya) - of Vaivasvata; तीर्थे (tīrthe) - in the holy place; च (ca) - and; तीर्थभूतः (tīrthabhūtaḥ) - become holy; भवेत् (bhavet) - becomes; नरः (naraḥ) - man;]
(Having touched the Maruts-group, pure in the hermitage of the ancestors, and in the holy place of Vaivasvata, a man becomes holy. (13-26-37))

तथा ब्रह्मशिरो गत्वा भागीरथ्यां कृतोदकः। एकमासं निराहारः सोमलोकमवाप्नुयात् ॥१३-२६-३८॥
tathā brahmaśiro gatvā bhāgīrathyāṃ kṛtodakaḥ। ekamāsaṃ nirāhāraḥ somalokam avāpnuyāt ॥13-26-38॥
[तथा (tathā) - thus; in this way; ब्रह्मशिरः (brahmaśiraḥ) - Brahmaśiras; the sacred place called Brahmaśiras; गत्वा (gatvā) - having gone; after going; भागीरथ्याम् (bhāgīrathyām) - in the Bhāgīrathī (Ganges river); कृतोदकः (kṛtodakaḥ) - having performed water-rites; one who has offered water; एकमासम् (ekamāsam) - one month; निराहारः (nirāhāraḥ) - without food; fasting; सोमलोकम् (somalokam) - the world of Soma; Soma's realm; अवाप्नुयात् (avāpnuyāt) - may attain; might reach;]
(Thus, having gone to Brahmaśiras, having performed water-rites in the Bhāgīrathī, for one month, fasting, he may attain the world of Soma. (13-26-38))
Thus, by going to Brahmaśiras and performing water-rites in the Bhāgīrathī, if one fasts for a month, he may attain the realm of Soma. (13-26-38)
कपोतके नरः स्नात्वा अष्टावक्रे कृतोदकः। द्वादशाहं निराहारो नरमेधफलं लभेत् ॥१३-२६-३९॥
kapotake naraḥ snātvā aṣṭāvakre kṛtodakaḥ। dvādaśāhaṃ nirāhāro naramedhaphalaṃ labhet ॥13-26-39॥

(In Kapotaka, a man, having bathed, in Aṣṭāvakra, having offered water, for twelve days, without food, the fruit of the human sacrifice, may obtain.)
If a man bathes at Kapotaka, offers water at Aṣṭāvakra, and remains without food for twelve days, he may obtain the fruit of a human sacrifice. (13-26-39)
मुञ्जपृष्ठं गयां चैव निरृतिं देवपर्वतम्। तृतीयां क्रौञ्चपादीं च ब्रह्महत्या विशुध्यति ॥१३-२६-४०॥
muñjapṛṣṭhaṃ gayāṃ caiva nirṛtiṃ devaparvatam। tṛtīyāṃ krauñcapādīṃ ca brahmahatyā viśudhyati ॥13-26-40॥
[मुञ्जपृष्ठं (muñjapṛṣṭham) - the place named Muñjapṛṣṭha; गयां (gayām) - Gayā (sacred city); च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; निरृतिं (nirṛtim) - Nirṛti (a sacred place); देवपर्वतम् (devaparvatam) - Devaparvata (sacred mountain); तृतीयां (tṛtīyām) - the third; क्रौञ्चपादीं (krauñcapādīm) - Krauñcapādī (a sacred place); च (ca) - and; ब्रह्महत्या (brahmahatyā) - the sin of killing a Brāhmaṇa; विशुध्यति (viśudhyati) - is purified;]
(Muñjapṛṣṭha, Gayā, and indeed Nirṛti, Devaparvata, the third, Krauñcapādī and, the sin of killing a Brāhmaṇa is purified.)
By visiting Muñjapṛṣṭha, Gayā, Nirṛti, Devaparvata, and the third, Krauñcapādī, one is purified of the sin of killing a Brāhmaṇa. (13-26-40)
कलश्यां वाप्युपस्पृश्य वेद्यां च बहुशोजलाम्। अग्नेः पुरे नरः स्नात्वा विशालायां कृतोदकः ॥ देवह्रद उपस्पृश्य ब्रह्मभूतो विराजते ॥१३-२६-४१॥
kalaśyāṃ vāpyupaspṛśya vedyāṃ ca bahuśojalām। agneḥ pure naraḥ snātvā viśālāyāṃ kṛtodakaḥ ॥ devahrada upaspṛśya brahmabhūto virājate ॥13-26-41॥
[कलश्याम् (kalaśyām) - in the water-pot; वा (vā) - or; अपि (api) - also; उपस्पृश्य (upaspṛśya) - having touched (for purification); वेद्याम् (vedyām) - on the altar; च (ca) - and; बहुशः (bahuśaḥ) - many times; जलाम् (jalām) - water; अग्नेः (agneḥ) - of Agni; पुरे (pure) - in the city; नरः (naraḥ) - man; स्नात्वा (snātvā) - having bathed; विशालायाम् (viśālāyām) - in Viśālā; कृतोदकः (kṛtodakaḥ) - having offered water; देवह्रद (devahrada) - sacred pond; उपस्पृश्य (upaspṛśya) - having touched (for purification); ब्रह्मभूतः (brahmabhūtaḥ) - having become Brahman; विराजते (virājate) - shines;]
(Having touched (for purification) the water in the water-pot or on the altar many times, and having bathed in the city of Agni, the man, having offered water in Viśālā, having touched the sacred pond, having become Brahman, shines.)
After purifying himself with water from the water-pot or repeatedly on the altar, and bathing in the city of Agni, a man who has offered water in Viśālā and touched the sacred pond shines forth, having attained the state of Brahman. (13-26-41)
पुरापवर्तनं नन्दां महानन्दां च सेव्य वै। नन्दने सेव्यते दान्तस्त्वप्सरोभिरहिंसकः ॥१३-२६-४२॥
purāpavartanaṃ nandāṃ mahānandāṃ ca sevya vai। nandane sevyate dāntastvap-sarobhirahiṃsakaḥ ॥13-26-42॥
[पुरा (purā) - formerly; in ancient times; अपवर्तनं (apavartanaṃ) - removal; turning away; नन्दां (nandāṃ) - Nandā (name of a river); महानन्दां (mahānandāṃ) - Mahānandā (name of a river); च (ca) - and; सेव्य (sevya) - to be served; to be resorted to; वै (vai) - indeed; truly; नन्दने (nandane) - in Nandana (garden or place); सेव्यते (sevyate) - is served; is resorted to; दान्तः (dāntaḥ) - self-controlled; subdued; त्व (tva) - but; however; अप्सरोभिः (apsarobhiḥ) - by apsarases (celestial nymphs); अहिंसकः (ahiṃsakaḥ) - non-violent; harmless;]
(Formerly, the removal (purification), Nandā, Mahānandā and indeed to be served. In Nandana, the self-controlled, however, is served by apsarases, being non-violent. (13-26-42))
In ancient times, the rivers Nandā and Mahānandā were to be resorted to for purification. In the Nandana garden, the self-controlled and non-violent person is served by apsarases. (13-26-42)
उर्वशीकृत्तिकायोगे गत्वा यः सुसमाहितः। लौहित्ये विधिवत्स्नात्वा पुण्डरीकफलं लभेत् ॥१३-२६-४३॥
urvaśīkṛttikāyoge gatvā yaḥ susamāhitaḥ। lauhitye vidhivatsnātvā puṇḍarīkaphalaṃ labhet ॥13-26-43॥
[उर्वशीकृत्तिकायोगे (urvaśīkṛttikāyoge) - at the conjunction of Urvaśī and Kṛttikā; गत्वा (gatvā) - having gone; यः (yaḥ) - who; सुसमाहितः (susamāhitaḥ) - well concentrated; लौहित्ये (lauhitye) - in the Lauhitya (river); विधिवत् (vidhivat) - according to the procedure; स्नात्वा (snātvā) - having bathed; पुण्डरीकफलं (puṇḍarīkaphalaṃ) - the fruit of Puṇḍarīka (merit); लभेत् (labhet) - obtains;]
(At the conjunction of Urvaśī and Kṛttikā, having gone, who is well concentrated, in the Lauhitya, having bathed according to the procedure, obtains the fruit of Puṇḍarīka.)
Whoever, at the conjunction of Urvaśī and Kṛttikā, goes with full concentration and bathes in the Lauhitya river according to the prescribed procedure, attains the merit known as the fruit of Puṇḍarīka. (13-26-43)
रामह्रद उपस्पृश्य विशालायां कृतोदकः। द्वादशाहं निराहारः कल्मषाद्विप्रमुच्यते ॥१३-२६-४४॥
rāma-hrada upaspṛśya viśālāyāṃ kṛtodakaḥ। dvādaśāhaṃ nirāhāraḥ kalmaṣād vipramucyate ॥13-26-44॥
[रामह्रद (rāma-hrada) - Rama-lake; उपस्पृश्य (upaspṛśya) - having touched; विशालायां (viśālāyām) - in Viśālā; कृतोदकः (kṛtodakaḥ) - having performed water-rites; द्वादशाहं (dvādaśāham) - twelve days; निराहारः (nirāhāraḥ) - without food; कल्मषात् (kalmaṣāt) - from sin; विप्रमुच्यते (vipramucyate) - is completely freed;]
(Having touched the Rama-lake, having performed water-rites in Viśālā, (one) who is without food for twelve days is completely freed from sin.)
By touching the Rama-lake and performing water-rites in Viśālā, one who fasts for twelve days is completely freed from sin. (13-26-44)
महाह्रद उपस्पृश्य शुद्धेन मनसा नरः। एकमासं निराहारो जमदग्निगतिं लभेत् ॥१३-२६-४५॥
mahāhrada upaspṛśya śuddhena manasā naraḥ। ekamāsaṃ nirāhāro jamadagnigatiṃ labhet ॥13-26-45॥
[महाह्रद (mahāhrada) - great lake; उपस्पृश्य (upaspṛśya) - having touched; having bathed; शुद्धेन (śuddhena) - by pure; मनसा (manasā) - mind; नरः (naraḥ) - man; एकमासं (ekamāsaṃ) - one month; निराहारः (nirāhāraḥ) - without food; जमदग्निगतिम् (jamadagnigatim) - the state of Jamadagni; लभेत् (labhet) - may obtain;]
(A man, having bathed in the great lake with a pure mind, without food for one month, may obtain the state of Jamadagni.)
If a man bathes in the great lake with a pure mind and remains without food for one month, he attains the state of Jamadagni. (13-26-45)
विन्ध्ये सन्ताप्य चात्मानं सत्यसन्धस्त्वहिंसकः। षण्मासं पदमास्थाय मासेनैकेन शुध्यति ॥१३-२६-४६॥
vindhye santāpya cātmānaṃ satyasaṃdhas tvahiṃsakaḥ। ṣaṇmāsaṃ padam āsthāya māsenai kena śudhyati ॥13-26-46॥
[विन्ध्ये (vindhye) - in the Vindhya; सन्ताप्य (santāpya) - having tormented; च (ca) - and; आत्मानं (ātmānam) - oneself; सत्यसन्धः (satyasaṃdhaḥ) - truthful; त्वहिंसकः (tvahiṃsakaḥ) - and non-violent; षण्मासं (ṣaṇmāsaṃ) - six months; पदम् (padam) - place; आस्थाय (āsthāya) - having resorted to; मासेन (māsena) - in a month; एकेन (ekena) - by one; शुध्यति (śudhyati) - becomes purified;]
(In the Vindhya, having tormented oneself, and being truthful and non-violent, having resorted to the place for six months, in one month becomes purified.)
By tormenting himself in the Vindhya mountains, remaining truthful and non-violent, and staying at that place for six months, one becomes purified in a single month. (13-26-46)
नर्मदायामुपस्पृश्य तथा सूर्पारकोदके। एकपक्षं निराहारो राजपुत्रो विधीयते ॥१३-२६-४७॥
narmadāyām upaspṛśya tathā sūrpārakodake। ekapakṣaṃ nirāhāro rājaputro vidhīyate ॥13-26-47॥
[नर्मदायाम् (narmadāyām) - in the Narmadā (river); उपस्पृश्य (upaspṛśya) - having touched; having bathed; having purified oneself; तथा (tathā) - likewise; in the same way; सूर्पारक-उदके (sūrpāraka-udake) - in the water of Sūrpāraka (place); एकपक्षम् (ekapakṣam) - one fortnight; निराहारः (nirāhāraḥ) - without food; fasting; राजपुत्रः (rājaputraḥ) - the prince; विधीयते (vidhīyate) - is prescribed; is enjoined;]
(In the Narmadā (river), having purified oneself, likewise in the water of Sūrpāraka, for one fortnight, without food, the prince is prescribed.)
After purifying himself in the Narmadā river and likewise in the waters of Sūrpāraka, the prince is prescribed to fast without food for a fortnight. (13-26-47)
जम्बूमार्गे त्रिभिर्मासैः संयतः सुसमाहितः। अहोरात्रेण चैकेन सिद्धिं समधिगच्छति ॥१३-२६-४८॥
jambūmārge tribhirmāsaiḥ saṁyataḥ susamāhitaḥ। ahorātreṇa caikena siddhiṁ samadhigacchati ॥13-26-48॥
[जम्बूमार्गे (jambūmārge) - on the Jambu path; त्रिभिः (tribhiḥ) - by three; मासैः (māsaiḥ) - months; संयतः (saṁyataḥ) - restrained; सुसमाहितः (susamāhitaḥ) - well-concentrated; अहोरात्रेण (ahorātreṇa) - by a day and night; च (ca) - and; एकेन (ekena) - by one; सिद्धिं (siddhiṁ) - perfection; समधिगच्छति (samadhigacchati) - completely attains;]
(On the Jambu path, by three months, restrained, well-concentrated, by one day and night and, perfection completely attains.)
One who is restrained and well-concentrated on the Jambu path attains perfection in three months, or in just one day and night. (13-26-48)
कोकामुखे विगाह्यापो गत्वा चण्डालिकाश्रमम्। शाकभक्षश्चीरवासाः कुमारीर्विन्दते दश ॥१३-२६-४९॥
kokāmukhe vigāhyāpo gatvā caṇḍālikāśramam। śākabhakṣaścīravāsāḥ kumārīrvindate daśa ॥13-26-49॥
[कोकामुखे (kokāmukhe) - in the mouth of a well; विगाह्य (vigāhya) - having entered; अपः (apah) - water; गत्वा (gatvā) - having gone; चण्डालिका-आश्रमम् (caṇḍālikā-āśramam) - the hermitage of a caṇḍālikā (outcaste woman); शाकभक्षः (śākabhakṣaḥ) - eater of vegetables; चीरवासाः (cīravāsāḥ) - clad in bark garments; कुमारीर् (kumārīḥ) - maidens; विन्दते (vindate) - obtains; दश (daśa) - ten;]
(In the mouth of a well, having entered water, having gone to the hermitage of a caṇḍālikā, eater of vegetables, clad in bark garments, obtains ten maidens.)
One who enters water at the mouth of a well, goes to the hermitage of a caṇḍālikā, eats only vegetables, and wears bark garments, obtains ten maidens. (13-26-49)
वैवस्वतस्य सदनं न स गच्छेत्कदाचन। यस्य कन्याह्रदे वासो देवलोकं स गच्छति ॥१३-२६-५०॥
vaivasvatasya sadanaṃ na sa gacchet kadācana। yasya kanyā-hrade vāsaḥ devalokaṃ sa gacchati ॥13-26-50॥
[वैवस्वतस्य (vaivasvatasya) - of Vaivasvata (Yama); सदनं (sadanaṃ) - abode; न (na) - not; सः (saḥ) - he; गच्छेत् (gacchet) - should go; कदाचन (kadācana) - ever; यस्य (yasya) - whose; कन्या (kanyā) - maiden; ह्रदे (hrade) - in the lake; वासः (vāsaḥ) - residence; देवलोकं (devalokaṃ) - the world of the gods; सः (saḥ) - he; गच्छति (gacchati) - goes;]
(He should never go to the abode of Vaivasvata; he whose residence is in the maiden's lake goes to the world of the gods. (13-26-50))
One should never go to the abode of Vaivasvata; whoever resides in the maiden's lake attains the world of the gods. (13-26-50)
प्रभासे त्वेकरात्रेण अमावास्यां समाहितः। सिध्यतेऽत्र महाबाहो यो नरो जायते पुनः ॥१३-२६-५१॥
prabhāse tvekarātreṇa amāvāsyāṃ samāhitaḥ। sidhyate'tra mahābāho yo naro jāyate punaḥ ॥13-26-51॥
[प्रभासे (prabhāse) - in Prabhāsa; तु (tu) - but; एकरात्रेण (ekarātreṇa) - by one night; अमावास्यां (amāvāsyāṃ) - on new moon; समाहितः (samāhitaḥ) - concentrated; सिध्यते (sidhyate) - is accomplished; अत्र (atra) - here; महाबाहो (mahābāho) - O mighty-armed; यः (yaḥ) - who; नरः (naraḥ) - man; जायते (jāyate) - is born; पुनः (punaḥ) - again;]
(In Prabhāsa but by one night on new moon concentrated is accomplished here O mighty-armed who man is born again.)
O mighty-armed one, here in Prabhāsa, whoever is born again and remains concentrated for one night on the new moon, his purpose is accomplished. (13-26-51)
उज्जानक उपस्पृश्य आर्ष्टिषेणस्य चाश्रमे। पिङ्गायाश्चाश्रमे स्नात्वा सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते ॥१३-२६-५२॥
ujjānaka upaspṛśya ārṣṭiṣeṇasya cāśrame. piṅgāyāścāśrame snātvā sarvapāpaiḥ pramucyate ॥13-26-52॥
[उज्जानक (ujjānaka) - Ujjānaka; (name of a place); उपस्पृश्य (upaspṛśya) - having touched; having bathed; (from upa + spṛś, to touch); आर्ष्टिषेणस्य (ārṣṭiṣeṇasya) - of Ārṣṭiṣeṇa; (proper name, genitive); च (ca) - and; आश्रम (āśrama) - hermitage; पिङ्गायाः (piṅgāyāḥ) - of Piṅgā; (proper name, genitive); च (ca) - and; आश्रम (āśrama) - hermitage; स्नात्वा (snātvā) - having bathed; सर्वपापैः (sarvapāpaiḥ) - from all sins; (instrumental plural); प्रमुच्यते (pramucyate) - is released; is freed;]
(Having touched (bathed at) Ujjānaka, and at the hermitage of Ārṣṭiṣeṇa, and having bathed at the hermitage of Piṅgā, one is released from all sins.)
By bathing at Ujjānaka, at the hermitage of Ārṣṭiṣeṇa, and at the hermitage of Piṅgā, one is freed from all sins. (13-26-52)
कुल्यायां समुपस्पृश्य जप्त्वा चैवाघमर्षणम्। अश्वमेधमवाप्नोति त्रिरात्रोपोषितः शुचिः ॥१३-२६-५३॥
kulyāyāṃ samupaspṛśya japtvā caiva aghamarṣaṇam। aśvamedham avāpnoti trirātroposhitaḥ śuciḥ ॥13-26-53॥
[कुल्यायाम् (kulyāyām) - in the water-channel; समुपस्पृश्य (samupaspṛśya) - having thoroughly touched; जप्त्वा (japtvā) - having muttered; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; अघमर्षणम् (aghamarṣaṇam) - Aghamarṣaṇa hymn; अश्वमेधम् (aśvamedham) - Aśvamedha (horse-sacrifice); अवाप्नोति (avāpnoti) - obtains; त्रिरात्रोपोषितः (trirātroposhitaḥ) - having fasted for three nights; शुचिः (śuciḥ) - pure;]
(In the water-channel, having thoroughly touched (the water), having muttered indeed the Aghamarṣaṇa hymn, one obtains the Aśvamedha (horse-sacrifice), having fasted for three nights, being pure.)
Having thoroughly touched the water in the channel and recited the Aghamarṣaṇa hymn, a pure person who has fasted for three nights attains the merit of the Aśvamedha sacrifice. (13-26-53)
पिण्डारक उपस्पृश्य एकरात्रोषितो नरः। अग्निष्टोममवाप्नोति प्रभातां शर्वरीं शुचिः ॥१३-२६-५४॥
piṇḍāraka upaspṛśya ekarātroṣito naraḥ। agniṣṭomam avāpnoti prabhātāṃ śarvarīṃ śuciḥ ॥13-26-54॥
[पिण्डारक (piṇḍāraka) - Piṇḍāraka (name of a sacred place); उपस्पृश्य (upaspṛśya) - having touched (ritually); एकरात्रोषितः (ekarātroṣitaḥ) - having stayed for one night; नरः (naraḥ) - man; अग्निष्टोमम् (agniṣṭomam) - Agniṣṭoma (a Vedic sacrifice); अवाप्नोति (avāpnoti) - obtains; प्रभाताम् (prabhātām) - dawn; शर्वरीम् (śarvarīm) - night; शुचिः (śuciḥ) - pure;]
(A man, having ritually touched Piṇḍāraka and having stayed for one night, obtains the Agniṣṭoma (sacrifice), pure at the dawn of the night.)
If a man, after ritually touching Piṇḍāraka and spending one night there, remains pure until the dawn, he attains the merit of performing the Agniṣṭoma sacrifice. (13-26-54)
तथा ब्रह्मसरो गत्वा धर्मारण्योपशोभितम्। पुण्डरीकमवाप्नोति प्रभातां शर्वरीं शुचिः ॥१३-२६-५५॥
tathā brahmasaro gatvā dharmāraṇyopaśobhitam। puṇḍarīkam avāpnoti prabhātāṃ śarvarīṃ śuciḥ ॥13-26-55॥
[तथा (tathā) - thus; in that manner; ब्रह्मसरो (brahmasaraḥ) - Brahma-lake; (the sacred lake named after Brahma); गत्वा (gatvā) - having gone; after going; धर्मारण्य (dharmāraṇya) - Dharma-forest; (the forest of Dharma); उपशोभितम् (upaśobhitam) - adorned; beautified; पुण्डरीकम् (puṇḍarīkam) - lotus; (here, a lotus flower or pond); अवाप्नोति (avāpnoti) - obtains; attains; प्रभाताम् (prabhātām) - dawn; morning; शर्वरीम् (śarvarīm) - night; शुचिः (śuciḥ) - pure; (one who is pure);]
(Thus, having gone to the Brahma-lake adorned by the Dharma-forest, the pure one attains the lotus, the dawn, and the night.)
Thus, after reaching the Brahma-lake beautified by the Dharma-forest, the pure person attains the lotus and experiences the night turning into dawn. (13-26-55)
मैनाके पर्वते स्नात्वा तथा सन्ध्यामुपास्य च। कामं जित्वा च वै मासं सर्वमेधफलं लभेत् ॥१३-२६-५६॥
maināke parvate snātvā tathā sandhyām-upāsya ca। kāmaṃ jitvā ca vai māsaṃ sarvamedhaphalaṃ labhet ॥13-26-56॥
[मैनाके (maināke) - on Mainaka; पर्वते (parvate) - mountain; स्नात्वा (snātvā) - having bathed; तथा (tathā) - thus; सन्ध्याम् (sandhyām) - twilight; उपास्य (upāsya) - having worshipped; च (ca) - and; कामं (kāmaṃ) - desire; जित्वा (jitvā) - having conquered; च (ca) - and; वै (vai) - indeed; मासं (māsaṃ) - month; सर्वमेधफलं (sarvamedhaphalaṃ) - fruit of the Sarvamedha sacrifice; लभेत् (labhet) - one obtains;]
(On Mainaka mountain, having bathed, thus having worshipped the twilight and having conquered desire, indeed, for a month, one obtains the fruit of the Sarvamedha sacrifice.)
By bathing on Mainaka mountain, worshipping at twilight, and conquering desire for a month, one attains the fruit of the Sarvamedha sacrifice. (13-26-56)
विख्यातो हिमवान्पुण्यः शङ्करश्वशुरो गिरिः। आकरः सर्वरत्नानां सिद्धचारणसेवितः ॥१३-२६-५७॥
vikhyāto himavān puṇyaḥ śaṅkaraśvaśuro giriḥ। ākaraḥ sarvaratnānāṃ siddhacāraṇasevitaḥ ॥13-26-57॥

The well-known holy mountain Himavat, Śaṅkara's father-in-law, is a mine of all jewels and is attended by Siddhas and Cāraṇas. (13-26-57)
शरीरमुत्सृजेत्तत्र विधिपूर्वमनाशके। अध्रुवं जीवितं ज्ञात्वा यो वै वेदान्तगो द्विजः ॥१३-२६-५८॥
śarīram utsṛjet tatra vidhi-pūrvam anāśake। adhruvaṃ jīvitaṃ jñātvā yo vai vedāntago dvijaḥ॥13-26-58॥

(Body should abandon there according to prescribed rites when incurable; unstable life having known who indeed knower of Vedānta twice-born.)
The twice-born who is a knower of Vedānta, knowing that life is unstable, should abandon the body there according to prescribed rites when it is incurable. (13-26-58)
अभ्यर्च्य देवतास्तत्र नमस्कृत्य मुनींस्तथा। ततः सिद्धो दिवं गच्छेद्ब्रह्मलोकं सनातनम् ॥१३-२६-५९॥
abhyarcya devatās tatra namaskṛtya munīn tathā। tataḥ siddho divaṃ gacched brahmalokaṃ sanātanam ॥13-26-59॥
[अभ्यर्च्य (abhyarcya) - having worshipped; देवताः (devatāḥ) - deities; तत्र (tatra) - there; नमस्कृत्य (namaskṛtya) - having bowed; मुनीन् (munīn) - sages; तथा (tathā) - also; ततः (tataḥ) - then; सिद्धः (siddhaḥ) - the perfected one; दिवम् (divam) - heaven; गच्छेत् (gacchet) - should go; ब्रह्मलोकम् (brahmalokam) - the world of Brahma; सनातनम् (sanātanam) - eternal;]
(Having worshipped the deities there, having bowed to the sages also, then the perfected one should go to heaven, the eternal world of Brahma.)
After worshipping the deities there and bowing to the sages as well, the perfected person then ascends to heaven, to the eternal world of Brahma. (13-26-59)
कामं क्रोधं च लोभं च यो जित्वा तीर्थमावसेत्। न तेन किञ्चिन्न प्राप्तं तीर्थाभिगमनाद्भवेत् ॥१३-२६-६०॥
kāmaṃ krodhaṃ ca lobhaṃ ca yo jitvā tīrtham āvaset। na tena kiñcin na prāptaṃ tīrthābhigamanād bhavet ॥13-26-60॥
[कामं (kāmaṃ) - desire; क्रोधं (krodhaṃ) - anger; च (ca) - and; लोभं (lobhaṃ) - greed; च (ca) - and; यः (yaḥ) - who; जित्वा (jitvā) - having conquered; तीर्थम् (tīrtham) - sacred place; आवसेत् (āvaset) - should dwell; न (na) - not; तेन (tena) - by him; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - anything; न (na) - not; प्राप्तं (prāptaṃ) - attained; तीर्थाभिगमनात् (tīrthābhigamanāt) - from going to a sacred place; भवेत् (bhavet) - would be;]
(Desire, anger and greed, and who having conquered, sacred place should dwell; not by him anything not attained from going to a sacred place would be.)
He who, having conquered desire, anger, and greed, dwells at a sacred place—there is nothing that he does not attain by going to a sacred place. (13-26-60)
यान्यगम्यानि तीर्थानि दुर्गाणि विषमाणि च। मनसा तानि गम्यानि सर्वतीर्थसमासतः ॥१३-२६-६१॥
yānyagam-yāni tīrthāni durgāṇi viṣamāṇi ca। manasā tāni gamyāni sarvatīrthasamāsataḥ ॥13-26-61॥
[यानि (yāni) - which; (neuter plural); अगम्यानि (agam-yāni) - not-to-be-approached; inaccessible; तीर्थानि (tīrthāni) - sacred places; दुर्गाणि (durgāṇi) - fortresses; difficult places; विषमाणि (viṣamāṇi) - uneven; difficult; च (ca) - and; मनसा (manasā) - by the mind; तानि (tāni) - those; गम्यानि (gamyāni) - to be reached; attainable; सर्वतीर्थसमासतः (sarvatīrthasamāsataḥ) - in summary of all sacred places; collectively of all tīrthas;]
(Which inaccessible sacred places, fortresses, uneven (places) and (others), by the mind those are attainable, collectively of all sacred places.)
All those sacred places, fortresses, and difficult spots that are inaccessible can be reached by the mind, as a summary of all sacred places. (13-26-61)
इदं मेध्यमिदं धन्यमिदं स्वर्ग्यमिदं सुखम्। इदं रहस्यं देवानामाप्लाव्यानां च पावनम् ॥१३-२६-६२॥
idaṃ medhyam idaṃ dhanyam idaṃ svargyam idaṃ sukham। idaṃ rahasyaṃ devānām āplāvyānāṃ ca pāvanam ॥13-26-62॥

maharṣīṇām idaṃ japyaṃ pāvanānāṃ tathottamam। japaṃ ca abhyutthitaḥ śaśvat nirmalaḥ svargam āpnuyāt ॥13-26-65॥
[महर्षीणाम् (maharṣīṇām) - of great seers; इदं (idaṃ) - this; जप्यम् (japyaṃ) - recitation; पावनानाम् (pāvanānām) - of the purifiers; तथ (tatha) - also; उत्तमम् (uttamam) - the highest; जपन् (japan) - reciting; च (ca) - and; अभ्युत्थितः (abhyutthitaḥ) - having arisen; शश्वत् (śaśvat) - always; निर्मलः (nirmalaḥ) - pure; स्वर्गम् (svargam) - heaven; आप्नुयात् (āpnuyāt) - may attain;]
(Of great seers this recitation, of the purifiers also the highest. Reciting and having arisen always pure, heaven may attain. (13-26-65))
This is the recitation of the great seers, the highest among the purifiers. Whoever, having arisen, always recites this with purity, may attain heaven. (13-26-65)
इदं यश्चापि शृणुयाद्रहस्यं त्वङ्गिरोमतम्। उत्तमे च कुले जन्म लभेज्जातिं च संस्मरेत् ॥१३-२६-६६॥
idaṃ yaścāpi śṛṇuyād rahasyaṃ tvaṅgiromatam। uttame ca kule janma labhejjātiṃ ca saṃsmaret ॥13-26-66॥
[इदं (idaṃ) - this; यः (yaḥ) - who; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; शृणुयात् (śṛṇuyāt) - may hear; रहस्यं (rahasyaṃ) - secret; त्वङ्गिरोमतम् (tvaṅgiromatam) - your opinion; उत्तमे (uttame) - in the best; च (ca) - and; कुले (kule) - family; जन्म (janma) - birth; लभेत् (labhet) - may obtain; जातिं (jātiṃ) - caste; च (ca) - and; संस्मरेत् (saṃsmaret) - may remember;]
(This who and also may hear secret your opinion in the best and family birth may obtain caste and may remember.)
Whoever also hears this secret, your opinion, may obtain birth in the best family and may remember their caste. (13-26-66)
