जन्मनैव महाभागो ब्राह्मणो नाम जायते। नमस्यः सर्वभूतानामतिथिः प्रसृताग्रभुक् ॥१३-३५-१॥
janmanaiva mahābhāgo brāhmaṇo nāma jāyate। namasyaḥ sarvabhūtānāmatithiḥ prasṛtāgrabhuk ॥13-35-1॥
[जन्मना (janmanā) - by birth; एव (eva) - indeed; महाभागः (mahābhāgaḥ) - greatly fortunate one; ब्राह्मणः (brāhmaṇaḥ) - brāhmaṇa; नाम (nāma) - by name; जायते (jāyate) - is born; नमस्यः (namasyaḥ) - worthy of reverence; सर्वभूतानाम् (sarvabhūtānām) - of all beings; अतिथिः (atithiḥ) - guest; प्रसृताग्रभुक् (prasṛtāgrabhuk) - eater of what is offered first;]
(By birth indeed, the greatly fortunate one called brāhmaṇa is born; worthy of reverence, the guest of all beings, eater of what is offered first.)
A brāhmaṇa, greatly fortunate, is by birth called such; he is worthy of reverence, the guest of all beings, and the one who partakes of what is first offered. (13-35-1)
सर्वान्नः सुहृदस्तात ब्राह्मणाः सुमनोमुखाः। गीर्भिर्मङ्गलयुक्ताभिरनुध्यायन्ति पूजिताः ॥१३-३५-२॥
sarvānnaḥ suhṛdastāta brāhmaṇāḥ sumanomukhāḥ। gīrbhirmaṅgalayuktābhiranudhyāyanti pūjitāḥ ॥13-35-2॥
[सर्वान्नः (sarvānnaḥ) - all-food; सुहृदः (suhṛdaḥ) - well-wishers; तात (tāta) - dear one; ब्राह्मणाः (brāhmaṇāḥ) - brāhmaṇas; सुमनोमुखाः (sumanomukhāḥ) - with pleasant faces; गीर्भिः (gīrbhiḥ) - with words; मङ्गलयुक्ताभिः (maṅgalayuktābhiḥ) - endowed with auspiciousness; अनुध्यायन्ति (anudhyāyanti) - meditate upon; पूजिताः (pūjitāḥ) - being honored;]
(All-food well-wishers dear one brāhmaṇas with pleasant faces with words endowed with auspiciousness meditate upon being honored.)
Dear one, the brāhmaṇas, who are well-wishers to all and partake of all food, with pleasant faces and auspicious words, being honored, meditate upon you. (13-35-2)
सर्वान्नो द्विषतस्तात ब्राह्मणा जातमन्यवः। गीर्भिर्दारुणयुक्ताभिरभिहन्युरपूजिताः ॥१३-३५-३॥
sarvānno dviṣatastāta brāhmaṇā jātamanyavaḥ। gīrbhir dāruṇayuktābhir abhihanyur apūjitāḥ ॥13-35-3॥

(All us enemies, dear one, brāhmaṇas whose anger has arisen, with words joined with harshness, might strike if not honored.)
Dear one, all our enemies, the brāhmaṇas whose anger has arisen, if not honored, might attack us with harsh words. (13-35-3)
अत्र गाथा ब्रह्मगीताः कीर्तयन्ति पुराविदः। सृष्ट्वा द्विजातीन्धाता हि यथापूर्वं समादधत् ॥१३-३५-४॥
atra gāthā brahmagītāḥ kīrtayanti purāvidaḥ। sṛṣṭvā dvijātīndhātā hi yathāpūrvaṃ samādadhat ॥13-35-4॥

Here, the knowers of old recite verses called the songs of Brahman; having created the twice-born, the creator indeed established them as before. (13-35-4)
न वोऽन्यदिह कर्तव्यं किञ्चिदूर्ध्वं यथाविधि। गुप्ता गोपायत ब्रह्म श्रेयो वस्तेन शोभनम् ॥१३-३५-५॥
na vo'nyadiha kartavyaṃ kiñcidūrdhvaṃ yathāvidhi। guptā gopāyata brahma śreyo vastena śobhanam ॥13-35-5॥
[न (na) - not; वः (vaḥ) - your; अन्यत् (anyat) - other; इह (iha) - here; कर्तव्यम् (kartavyam) - to be done; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - anything; ऊर्ध्वम् (ūrdhvam) - further; यथा (yathā) - as; विधि (vidhi) - rule; गुप्ता (guptā) - protected; गोपायत (gopāyata) - protect; ब्रह्म (brahma) - Veda; श्रेयः (śreyaḥ) - highest good; वस्तेन (vastena) - by means of wealth; शोभनम् (śobhanam) - excellent;]
(Not your other here to be done anything further as rule. Protected protect Veda highest good by means of wealth excellent.)
You have nothing else to do here beyond what is prescribed by rule. Protect the Veda, and by means of wealth, protect the highest good, which is excellent. (13-35-5)
स्वमेव कुर्वतां कर्म श्रीर्वो ब्राह्मी भविष्यति। प्रमाणं सर्वभूतानां प्रग्रहं च गमिष्यथ ॥१३-३५-६॥
svam eva kurvatāṃ karma śrīr vo brāhmī bhaviṣyati। pramāṇaṃ sarvabhūtānāṃ pragrahaṃ ca gamiṣyatha ॥13-35-6॥
[स्वम् (svam) - own; एव (eva) - indeed; कुर्वताम् (kurvatām) - of those doing; कर्म (karma) - action; श्रीः (śrīḥ) - prosperity; वः (vaḥ) - your; ब्राह्मी (brāhmī) - brahmanic; भविष्यति (bhaviṣyati) - will be; प्रमाणम् (pramāṇam) - standard; सर्वभूतानाम् (sarvabhūtānām) - of all beings; प्रग्रहम् (pragraham) - acceptance; च (ca) - and; गमिष्यथ (gamiṣyatha) - you will go;]
(Your own indeed, of those doing action, prosperity brahmanic will be; standard of all beings, acceptance and you will go.)
For those who perform their own actions, brahmanic prosperity will be yours; you will become the standard for all beings and attain acceptance. (13-35-6)
न शौद्रं कर्म कर्तव्यं ब्राह्मणेन विपश्चिता। शौद्रं हि कुर्वतः कर्म धर्मः समुपरुध्यते ॥१३-३५-७॥
na śaudraṃ karma kartavyaṃ brāhmaṇena vipaścitā। śaudraṃ hi kurvataḥ karma dharmaḥ samuparudhyate ॥13-35-7॥
[न (na) - not; शौद्रं (śaudram) - of a śūdra; pertaining to a śūdra; कर्म (karma) - action; work; कर्तव्यं (kartavyam) - to be done; to be performed; ब्राह्मणेन (brāhmaṇena) - by a brāhmaṇa; विपश्चिता (vipaścitā) - by the wise; by the learned; शौद्रं (śaudram) - of a śūdra; pertaining to a śūdra; हि (hi) - indeed; surely; कुर्वतः (kurvataḥ) - of one doing; of one performing; कर्म (karma) - action; work; धर्मः (dharmaḥ) - dharma; righteousness; समुपरुध्यते (samuparudhyate) - is obstructed; is hindered;]
(Not the action of a śūdra is to be done by a brāhmaṇa who is wise. Indeed, for one performing the action of a śūdra, dharma is obstructed. (13-35-7))
A wise brāhmaṇa should not perform the work of a śūdra. For one who does the work of a śūdra, righteousness is indeed hindered. (13-35-7)
श्रीश्च बुद्धिश्च तेजश्च विभूतिश्च प्रतापिनी। स्वाध्यायेनैव माहात्म्यं विमलं प्रतिपत्स्यथ ॥१३-३५-८॥
śrīś ca buddhiś ca tejaś ca vibhūtiś ca pratāpinī। svādhyāyenaiva māhātmyaṃ vimalaṃ pratipatsyatha ॥13-35-8॥
[श्रीः (śrīḥ) - prosperity; च (ca) - and; बुद्धिः (buddhiḥ) - intellect; च (ca) - and; तेजः (tejaḥ) - splendor; च (ca) - and; विभूतिः (vibhūtiḥ) - power; च (ca) - and; प्रतापिनी (pratāpinī) - radiant; स्वाध्यायेन (svādhyāyena) - by self-study; एव (eva) - indeed; माहात्म्यम् (māhātmyam) - greatness; विमलम् (vimalam) - pure; प्रतिपत्स्यथ (pratipatsyatha) - you will attain;]
(Prosperity and intellect and splendor and power and radiance; by self-study indeed greatness pure you will attain.)
You will attain pure greatness—prosperity, intellect, splendor, power, and radiance—indeed, by self-study. (13-35-8)
हुत्वा चाहवनीयस्थं महाभाग्ये प्रतिष्ठिताः। अग्रभोज्याः प्रसूतीनां श्रिया ब्राह्म्यानुकल्पिताः ॥१३-३५-९॥
hutvā cāhavanīyasthaṃ mahābhāgye pratiṣṭhitāḥ। agrabhojyāḥ prasūtīnāṃ śriyā brāhmyānukalpitāḥ ॥13-35-9॥
[हुत्वा (hutvā) - having offered; (from √hu, to offer oblation); च (ca) - and; अहवनीयस्थं (ahavanīyastham) - placed on the Ahavanīya (sacrificial fire); महाभाग्ये (mahābhāgye) - in great fortune; प्रतिष्ठिताः (pratiṣṭhitāḥ) - established; अग्रभोज्याः (agrabhojyāḥ) - the foremost portions to be eaten; प्रसूतीनां (prasūtīnām) - of the offspring; श्रिया (śriyā) - by prosperity; ब्राह्म्यानुकल्पिताः (brāhmyānukalpitāḥ) - arranged according to Brahmanical order;]
(Having offered and placed on the Ahavanīya fire, established in great fortune; the foremost portions to be eaten, of the offspring, by prosperity, arranged according to Brahmanical order.)
Having offered and placed on the Ahavanīya fire, established in great fortune, the foremost portions to be eaten of the offspring, endowed with prosperity, are arranged according to the Brahmanical order. (13-35-9)
श्रद्धया परया युक्ता ह्यनभिद्रोहलब्धया। दमस्वाध्यायनिरताः सर्वान्कामानवाप्स्यथ ॥१३-३५-१०॥
śraddhayā parayā yuktā hy anabhidrohalabdhayā। damasvādhyāyaniratāḥ sarvān kāmān avāpsyatha ॥13-35-10॥
[श्रद्धया (śraddhayā) - with faith; परया (parayā) - supreme; युक्ताः (yuktāḥ) - engaged; हि (hi) - indeed; अनभिद्रोहलब्धया (anabhidrohalabdhayā) - by that which is obtained without hostility; दम (dama) - self-restraint; स्वाध्याय (svādhyāya) - self-study; निरताः (niratāḥ) - devoted; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; कामान् (kāmān) - desires; अवाप्स्यथ (avāpsyatha) - you will attain;]
(With supreme faith engaged indeed by that which is obtained without hostility, devoted to self-restraint and self-study, all desires you will attain.)
Endowed with supreme faith and engaged in what is obtained without hostility, devoted to self-restraint and self-study, you will attain all desires. (13-35-10)
यच्चैव मानुषे लोके यच्च देवेषु किञ्चन। सर्वं तत्तपसा साध्यं ज्ञानेन विनयेन च ॥१३-३५-११॥
yac caiva mānuṣe loke yac ca deveṣu kiñcana। sarvaṃ tat tapasā sādhyam jñānena vinayena ca ॥13-35-11॥
[यत् (yat) - which; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; मानुषे (mānuṣe) - in human; लोके (loke) - world; यत् (yat) - which; च (ca) - and; देवेषु (deveṣu) - among gods; किञ्चन (kiñcana) - anything; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; तत् (tat) - that; तपसा (tapasā) - by austerity; साध्यम् (sādhyam) - to be accomplished; ज्ञानेन (jñānena) - by knowledge; विनयेन (vinayena) - by humility; च (ca) - and;]
(Which indeed in the human world, and which among the gods, anything; all that by austerity is to be accomplished, by knowledge and by humility and.)
Whatever exists in the human world and whatever among the gods, all of that can be accomplished by austerity, by knowledge, and by humility. (13-35-11)
इत्येता ब्रह्मगीतास्ते समाख्याता मयानघ। विप्रानुकम्पार्थमिदं तेन प्रोक्तं हि धीमता ॥१३-३५-१२॥
ity etā brahmagītās te samākhyātā mayānagha। viprānukampārtham idaṃ tena proktaṃ hi dhīmatā ॥13-35-12॥
[इति (iti) - thus; एता (etā) - these; ब्रह्मगीताः (brahmagītāḥ) - songs of Brahman; ते (te) - to you; समाख्याता (samākhyātā) - fully declared; मया (mayā) - by me; अनघ (anagha) - O sinless one; विप्र (vipra) - Brāhmaṇa; अनुकम्पार्थम् (anukampārtham) - for the sake of compassion; इदं (idaṃ) - this; तेन (tena) - by him; प्रोक्तम् (proktam) - spoken; हि (hi) - indeed; धीमता (dhīmatā) - by the wise;]
(Thus these songs of Brahman have been fully declared to you by me, O sinless one; for the sake of compassion for the Brāhmaṇa, this was indeed spoken by the wise.)
Thus, O sinless one, these Brahma Gītās have been fully explained to you by me; this was spoken by the wise for the sake of compassion for the Brāhmaṇa. (13-35-12)
भूयस्तेषां बलं मन्ये यथा राज्ञस्तपस्विनः। दुरासदाश्च चण्डाश्च रभसाः क्षिप्रकारिणः ॥१३-३५-१३॥
bhūyasteṣāṃ balaṃ manye yathā rājñastapasvinaḥ। durāsadāś ca caṇḍāś ca rabhasāḥ kṣiprakāriṇaḥ ॥13-35-13॥
[भूयः (bhūyaḥ) - more; again; तेषां (teṣām) - of them; बलं (balaṃ) - strength; मन्ये (manye) - I think; यथा (yathā) - as; like; राज्ञः (rājñaḥ) - of the king; तपस्विनः (tapasvinaḥ) - ascetic; of the ascetic; दुरासदाः (durāsadāḥ) - difficult to approach; च (ca) - and; चण्डाः (caṇḍāḥ) - fierce; च (ca) - and; रभसाः (rabhasāḥ) - impetuous; क्षिप्रकारिणः (kṣiprakāriṇaḥ) - quick-acting;]
(More of them strength I think as of the king ascetic; difficult to approach and fierce and impetuous quick-acting;)
I think their strength is even greater, like that of the king ascetic; they are difficult to approach, fierce, impetuous, and quick to act. (13-35-13)
सन्त्येषां सिंहसत्त्वाश्च व्याघ्रसत्त्वास्तथापरे। वराहमृगसत्त्वाश्च गजसत्त्वास्तथापरे ॥१३-३५-१४॥
santyeṣāṃ siṃhasattvāś ca vyāghrasattvās tathāpare। varāhamṛgasattvāś ca gajasattvās tathāpare ॥13-35-14॥
[सन्ति (santi) - are; exist; एषाम् (eṣām) - of these; सिंहसत्त्वाः (siṃhasattvāḥ) - lion-natured beings; च (ca) - and; व्याघ्रसत्त्वाः (vyāghrasattvāḥ) - tiger-natured beings; तथा (tathā) - likewise; अपरे (apare) - others; वराहमृगसत्त्वाः (varāhamṛgasattvāḥ) - boar-deer-natured beings; च (ca) - and; गजसत्त्वाः (gajasattvāḥ) - elephant-natured beings; तथा (tathā) - likewise; अपरे (apare) - others;]
(There are of these lion-natured beings and tiger-natured beings likewise others; boar-deer-natured beings and elephant-natured beings likewise others.)
Among these, there are beings with the nature of lions, and others with the nature of tigers; likewise, there are others with the nature of boars and deer, and others with the nature of elephants. (13-35-14)
कर्पासमृदवः केचित्तथान्ये मकरस्पृशः। विभाष्यघातिनः केचित्तथा चक्षुर्हणोऽपरे ॥१३-३५-१५॥
karpāsamṛdavaḥ kecittathānye makaraspṛśaḥ। vibhāṣyaghātinaḥ kecittathā cakṣurhaṇo'pare ॥13-35-15॥
[कर्पासमृदवः (karpāsa-mṛdavaḥ) - cotton-soft; (karpāsa: cotton; mṛdavaḥ: soft;); केचित् (kecit) - some; (ke: some; cit: certain;); तथा (tathā) - likewise; अन्ये (anye) - others; मकरस्पृशः (makara-spṛśaḥ) - crocodile-touching; (makara: crocodile; spṛśaḥ: touching;); विभाष्यघातिनः (vibhāṣya-ghātinaḥ) - killing by speech; (vibhāṣya: by speaking; ghātinaḥ: killers;); केचित् (kecit) - some; (ke: some; cit: certain;); तथा (tathā) - likewise; चक्षुर्हणः (cakṣur-haṇaḥ) - eye-destroyers; (cakṣus: eye; haṇaḥ: destroyers;); अपरे (apare) - others;]
(Cotton-soft some, likewise others crocodile-touching; killing by speech some, likewise eye-destroyers others. (13-35-15))
Some are as soft as cotton, others touch like crocodiles; some kill with words, others are destroyers of sight. (13-35-15)
सन्ति चाशीविषनिभाः सन्ति मन्दास्तथापरे। विविधानीह वृत्तानि ब्राह्मणानां युधिष्ठिर ॥१३-३५-१६॥
santi ca āśīviṣanibhāḥ santi mandās tathāpare। vividhāni iha vṛttāni brāhmaṇānām yudhiṣṭhira ॥13-35-16॥
[सन्ति (santi) - are; exist; च (ca) - and; आशीविषनिभाः (āśīviṣanibhāḥ) - like venomous snakes; सन्ति (santi) - are; exist; मन्दाः (mandāḥ) - dull; slow; तथा (tathā) - also; likewise; अपरे (apare) - others; विविधानि (vividhāni) - various; इह (iha) - here; in this world; वृत्तानि (vṛttāni) - conducts; behaviors; ब्राह्मणानाम् (brāhmaṇānām) - of the brāhmaṇas; युधिष्ठिर (yudhiṣṭhira) - O Yudhiṣṭhira;]
(There are and like venomous snakes, there are dull ones also others; various here conducts of the brāhmaṇas, O Yudhiṣṭhira; ॥13-35-16॥)
O Yudhiṣṭhira, among the brāhmaṇas here, there are some whose conduct is like venomous snakes, there are others who are dull, and there are various other types of conduct as well. (13-35-16)
मेकला द्रमिडाः काशाः पौण्ड्राः कोल्लगिरास्तथा। शौण्डिका दरदा दर्वाश्चौराः शबरबर्बराः ॥१३-३५-१७॥
mekalā dramiḍāḥ kāśāḥ pauṇḍrāḥ kollagirās tathā। śauṇḍikā daradā darvāś caurāḥ śabarabarbarāḥ ॥13-35-17॥
[मेकला (mekalā) - people of Mekala region; द्रमिडाः (dramiḍāḥ) - Dravidians; काशाः (kāśāḥ) - people of Kāśa; पौण्ड्राः (pauṇḍrāḥ) - people of Pauṇḍra; कोल्लगिराः (kollagirāḥ) - people of Kollagiri; तथा (tathā) - also; शौण्डिका (śauṇḍikā) - Śauṇḍikas; दरदा (daradā) - Daradas; दर्वाः (darvāḥ) - Darvas; चौराः (caurāḥ) - thieves; शबरबर्बराः (śabarabarbarāḥ) - Śabaras and Barbaras;]

The Mekalas, Dravidians, Kāśas, Pauṇḍras, Kollagiris, as well as the Śauṇḍikas, Daradas, Darvas, thieves, Śabaras, and Barbaras. (13-35-17)
किराता यवनाश्चैव तास्ताः क्षत्रियजातयः। वृषलत्वमनुप्राप्ता ब्राह्मणानामदर्शनात् ॥१३-३५-१८॥
kirātā yavanāścaiva tāstāḥ kṣatriyajātayaḥ। vṛṣalatvamanuprāptā brāhmaṇānāmadarśanāt ॥13-35-18॥
[किराताः (kirātāḥ) - Kirātas; (a forest-dwelling tribe); यवनाः (yavanāḥ) - Yavanas; (foreigners/Greeks); च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; ताः (tāḥ) - those; ताः (tāḥ) - those; क्षत्रियजातयः (kṣatriyajātayaḥ) - Kṣatriya lineages; वृषलत्वम् (vṛṣalatvam) - status of vṛṣala; (outcaste/low-born); अनुप्राप्ताः (anuprāptāḥ) - have attained; ब्राह्मणानाम् (brāhmaṇānām) - of the Brāhmaṇas; अदर्शनात् (adarśanāt) - due to absence;]
(Kirātas, Yavanas and indeed those Kṣatriya lineages—those have attained the status of vṛṣala due to the absence of the Brāhmaṇas.)
The Kirātas, Yavanas, and all those Kṣatriya lineages have become outcastes because of the absence of Brāhmaṇas. (13-35-18)
ब्राह्मणानां परिभवादसुराः सलिलेशयाः। ब्राह्मणानां प्रसादाच्च देवाः स्वर्गनिवासिनः ॥१३-३५-१९॥
brāhmaṇānāṃ paribhavādasurāḥ salileśayāḥ। brāhmaṇānāṃ prasādācca devāḥ svarganivāsinaḥ ॥13-35-19॥
[ब्राह्मणानाम् (brāhmaṇānām) - of the Brāhmaṇas; परिभवात् (paribhavāt) - from disrespect; असुराः (asurāḥ) - the Asuras; सलिलेशयाः (salileśayāḥ) - dwellers in water; ब्राह्मणानाम् (brāhmaṇānām) - of the Brāhmaṇas; प्रसादात् (prasādāt) - from favor; च (ca) - and; देवाः (devāḥ) - the Devas; स्वर्गनिवासिनः (svarganivāsinaḥ) - inhabitants of heaven;]
(Of the Brāhmaṇas from disrespect the Asuras (became) dwellers in water; of the Brāhmaṇas from favor and the Devas (became) inhabitants of heaven; (13-35-19))
Because of disrespect towards the Brāhmaṇas, the Asuras became dwellers in water; and by the favor of the Brāhmaṇas, the Devas became inhabitants of heaven. (13-35-19)
अशक्यं स्प्रष्टुमाकाशमचाल्यो हिमवान्गिरिः। अवार्या सेतुना गङ्गा दुर्जया ब्राह्मणा भुवि ॥१३-३५-२०॥
aśakyaṃ spraṣṭum ākāśam acālyo himavān giriḥ। avāryā setunā gaṅgā durjayā brāhmaṇā bhuvi ॥13-35-20॥

(Not possible to touch the sky; the Himalaya mountain is immovable; the Ganga is not to be obstructed by a bridge; Brahmanas are hard to conquer on earth.)
It is impossible to touch the sky; the Himalaya mountain cannot be moved; the Ganga cannot be obstructed by a bridge; and Brahmanas are invincible on earth. (13-35-20)
न ब्राह्मणविरोधेन शक्या शास्तुं वसुन्धरा। ब्राह्मणा हि महात्मानो देवानामपि देवताः ॥१३-३५-२१॥
na brāhmaṇavirodhena śakyā śāstuṃ vasundharā। brāhmaṇā hi mahātmāno devānām api devatāḥ ॥13-35-21॥

(Not by opposition to a brāhmaṇa is it possible to rule the earth; brāhmaṇas indeed are great-souled, even deities of the gods.)
The earth cannot be ruled by opposing a brāhmaṇa; for brāhmaṇas are truly great-souled, and are even regarded as the deities of the gods. (13-35-21)
तान्पूजयस्व सततं दानेन परिचर्यया। यदीच्छसि महीं भोक्तुमिमां सागरमेखलाम् ॥१३-३५-२२॥
tānpūjayasva satataṃ dānena paricaryayā। yadīcchasi mahīṃ bhoktumimāṃ sāgaramekhalām ॥13-35-22॥

(Them honour always with gift, with service; if you desire earth to enjoy, this girdled by ocean.)
Always honour them with gifts and service, if you wish to enjoy this earth girdled by the ocean. (13-35-22)
प्रतिग्रहेण तेजो हि विप्राणां शाम्यतेऽनघ। प्रतिग्रहं ये नेच्छेयुस्तेऽपि रक्ष्यास्त्वयानघ ॥१३-३५-२३॥
pratigraheṇa tejo hi viprāṇāṃ śāmyate'nagha। pratigrahaṃ ye neccheyuste'pi rakṣyāstvayānagha ॥13-35-23॥

(By acceptance of gifts, the splendor indeed of the Brāhmaṇas is diminished, O sinless one. Acceptance of gifts who would not desire, they also are to be protected by you, O sinless one. (13-35-23))
O sinless one, by accepting gifts, the splendor of Brāhmaṇas is indeed diminished. Those who do not desire to accept gifts are also to be protected by you, O sinless one. (13-35-23)
