yad idaṃ śrāddha-dharmeṣu dīyate bharatarṣabha. chatraṃ copānahau caiva kenaitat sampravartitam ॥ kathaṃ caitat samutpannaṃ kimarthaṃ ca pradīyate ॥13-97-1॥

न केवलं श्राद्धधर्मे पुण्यकेष्वपि दीयते। एतद्विस्तरतो राजञ्श्रोतुमिच्छामि तत्त्वतः ॥१३-९७-२॥
na kevalaṃ śrāddhadharme puṇyakeṣv api dīyate. etad vistarato rājan śrotum icchāmi tattvataḥ ॥13-97-2॥

शृणु राजन्नवहितश्छत्रोपानहविस्तरम्। यथैतत्प्रथितं लोके येन चैतत्प्रवर्तितम् ॥१३-९७-३॥
śṛṇu rājan avahitaś chatropānahavistaram। yathaitat prathitaṃ loke yena caitat pravartitam ॥13-97-3॥

यथा चाक्षय्यतां प्राप्तं पुण्यतां च यथा गतम्। सर्वमेतदशेषेण प्रवक्ष्यामि जनाधिप ॥१३-९७-४॥
yathā cākṣayyatāṁ prāptaṁ puṇyatāṁ ca yathā gatam। sarvam etad aśeṣeṇa pravakṣyāmi janādhipa ॥13-97-4॥

(As (things) have obtained imperishability and as (they have) reached the state of merit, and as (it has) come to be, all this entirely I shall speak, O lord of people.)
O king, I shall now fully explain to you how things have attained imperishability and merit, and how all this has come to pass. (13-97-4)
इतिहासं पुरावृत्तमिमं शृणु नराधिप। जमदग्नेश्च संवादं सूर्यस्य च महात्मनः ॥१३-९७-५॥

पुरा स भगवान्साक्षाद्धनुषाक्रीडत प्रभो। सन्धाय सन्धाय शरांश्चिक्षेप किल भार्गवः ॥१३-९७-६॥

तान्क्षिप्तान्रेणुका सर्वांस्तस्येषून्दीप्ततेजसः। आनाय्य सा तदा तस्मै प्रादादसकृदच्युत ॥१३-९७-७॥
tāṅkṣiptānr̥eṇukā sarvāṁstasyēṣūndīptatējasaḥ. ānāyya sā tadā tasmai prādādasakr̥dacyuta ॥13-97-7॥

O Acyuta, Reṇukā, having gathered all of his blazing arrows that were thrown, then repeatedly gave them to him. (13-97-7)
अथ तेन स शब्देन ज्यातलस्य शरस्य च। प्रहृष्टः सम्प्रचिक्षेप सा च प्रत्याजहार तान् ॥१३-९७-८॥
atha tena sa śabdena jyātalasya śarasya ca। prahṛṣṭaḥ sampracikṣepa sā ca pratyājahāra tān ॥13-97-8॥
[अथ (atha) - then; तेन (tena) - by that; स (sa) - he; शब्देन (śabdena) - by the sound; ज्यातलस्य (jyātalasya) - of the bowstring; शरस्य (śarasya) - of the arrow; च (ca) - and; प्रहृष्टः (prahṛṣṭaḥ) - delighted; सम्प्रचिक्षेप (sampracikṣepa) - he discharged; सा (sā) - she; च (ca) - and; प्रत्याजहार (pratyājahāra) - withdrew; तान् (tān) - them;]
(Then by that, he, by the sound of the bowstring and the arrow, delighted, discharged (them); she also withdrew them.)

ततो मध्याह्नमारूढे ज्येष्ठामूले दिवाकरे। स सायकान्द्विजो विद्ध्वा रेणुकामिदमब्रवीत् ॥१३-९७-९॥
tato madhyāhnam ārūḍhe jyeṣṭhāmūle divākare। sa sāyakān dvijo viddhvā reṇukām idam abravīt॥ 13-97-9॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; मध्याह्नम् (madhyāhnam) - midday; आरूढे (ārūḍhe) - having ascended; ज्येष्ठामूले (jyeṣṭhāmūle) - (the) root of Jyeṣṭhā (nakṣatra), or summer solstice; दिवाकरे (divākare) - the sun; सः (saḥ) - he; सायकान् (sāyakān) - arrows; द्विजः (dvijaḥ) - twice-born (Brahmin); विद्ध्वा (viddhvā) - having pierced; रेणुकाम् (reṇukām) - Reṇukā; इदम् (idam) - this; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - spoke;]
(Then, at midday, the sun having ascended to the root of Jyeṣṭhā, he, the twice-born, having pierced Reṇukā with arrows, spoke this.)
Then, when the sun had reached midday at the root of Jyeṣṭhā, he, the Brahmin, having shot Reṇukā with arrows, said this. (13-97-9)
गच्छानय विशालाक्षि शरानेतान्धनुश्च्युतान्। यावदेतान्पुनः सुभ्रु क्षिपामीति जनाधिप ॥१३-९७-१०॥
gacchānaya viśālākṣi śarān etān dhanuścyutān। yāvad etān punaḥ subhru kṣipāmi iti janādhipa ॥13-97-10॥
[गच्छ (gaccha) - go; आनय (ānaya) - bring; विशालाक्षि (viśālākṣi) - O wide-eyed one; शरान् (śarān) - arrows (accusative plural); एतान् (etān) - these; धनुः-च्युतान् (dhanuḥ-cyutān) - fallen from the bow; यावत् (yāvat) - until; एतान् (etān) - these; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; सुभ्रु (subhru) - O beautiful-browed one; क्षिपामि (kṣipāmi) - I cast; इति (iti) - thus; जनाधिप (janādhipa) - the lord of men;]
(Go, bring, O wide-eyed one, these arrows fallen from the bow, until I cast these again, O beautiful-browed one, thus (said) the lord of men.)
The lord of men said: "Go, O wide-eyed one, and bring these arrows fallen from the bow; until then, O beautiful-browed one, I will cast these again." (13-97-10)
सा गच्छत्यन्तरा छायां वृक्षमाश्रित्य भामिनी। तस्थौ तस्या हि सन्तप्तं शिरः पादौ तथैव च ॥१३-९७-११॥
sā gacchaty antarā chāyāṃ vṛkṣam āśritya bhāminī । tasthau tasyā hi santaptaṃ śiraḥ pādau tathaiva ca ॥13-97-11॥
[सा (sā) (sā) - she; गच्छति (gacchati) (gacchati) - goes; अन्तरा (antarā) (antarā) - in between; छायाम् (chāyām) (chāyām) - shade; वृक्षम् (vṛkṣam) (vṛkṣam) - tree; आश्रित्य (āśritya) (āśritya) - having taken refuge; भामिनी (bhāminī) (bhāminī) - the beautiful lady; तस्थौ (tasthau) (tasthau) - stood; तस्या (tasyā) (tasyā) - her; हि (hi) (hi) - indeed; सन्तप्तम् (santaptam) (santaptam) - burnt; शिरः (śiraḥ) (śiraḥ) - head; पादौ (pādau) (pādau) - feet; तथैव (tathaiva) (tathaiva) - in the same way; च (ca) (ca) - and;]
(She goes in between (to) the shade, having taken refuge in the tree, the beautiful lady. She stood; indeed her head (and) feet were burnt in the same way also.)
She, the beautiful lady, went between the shade, having taken shelter under a tree. She stood there; indeed, her head and her feet were both equally scorched. (13-97-11)
स्थिता सा तु मुहूर्तं वै भर्तुः शापभयाच्छुभा। ययावानयितुं भूयः सायकानसितेक्षणा ॥ प्रत्याजगाम च शरांस्तानादाय यशस्विनी ॥१३-९७-१२॥
sthitā sā tu muhūrtaṁ vai bhartuḥ śāpabhayāc chubhā. yayāv ānayituṁ bhūyaḥ sāyakān asitekṣaṇā ॥ pratyājagāma ca śarāṁs tān ādāya yaśasvinī ॥13-97-12॥
[स्थिता (sthitā) - having remained; सा (sā) - she; तु (tu) - but; मुहूर्तं (muhūrtam) - a moment; वै (vai) - indeed; भर्तुः (bhartuḥ) - of the husband; शापभयात् (śāpabhayāt) - from fear of curse; शुभा (śubhā) - the auspicious one; ययौ (yayau) - she went; आनयितुं (ānayitum) - to bring; भूयः (bhūyaḥ) - again; सायकान् (sāyakān) - arrows; असितेक्षणा (asitekṣaṇā) - the dark-eyed one; प्रत्याजगाम (pratyājagāma) - returned; च (ca) - and; शरान् (śarān) - arrows; तान् (tān) - those; आदाय (ādāya) - having taken; यशस्विनी (yaśasvinī) - the illustrious one;]
(Having remained she but a moment indeed from the husband's fear of curse, the auspicious one went to bring again the arrows, the dark-eyed one. And returned having taken those arrows, the illustrious one.)
But she, out of fear of her husband's curse, remained for a moment; then the auspicious, dark-eyed lady went again to fetch the arrows. Having taken those arrows, the illustrious one returned. (13-97-12)
सा प्रस्विन्ना सुचार्वङ्गी पद्भ्यां दुःखं नियच्छती। उपाजगाम भर्तारं भयाद्भर्तुः प्रवेपती ॥१३-९७-१३॥
sā prasvinnā sucārv-aṅgī padbhyāṁ duḥkhaṁ niyacchatī| upājagāma bhartāraṁ bhayād bhartuḥ pravepatī ॥13-97-13॥
[सा (sā) - she; प्रस्विन्ना (prasvinnā) - covered in sweat; सुचार्वङ्गी (sucārv-aṅgī) - having beautiful limbs; पद्भ्यां (padbhyām) - with her feet; दुःखं (duḥkham) - pain; नियच्छती (niyacchatī) - enduring; उपाजगाम (upājagāma) - she approached; भर्तारं (bhartāram) - her husband; भयात् (bhayāt) - from fear; भर्तुः (bhartuḥ) - of the husband; प्रवेपती (pravepatī) - trembling;]
(She, covered in sweat, having beautiful limbs, with her feet enduring pain, she approached her husband, from fear of her husband, trembling.)
She, perspiring and of beautiful limbs, enduring pain in her feet, approached her husband, trembling from fear of him. (13-97-13)
स तामृषिस्ततः क्रुद्धो वाक्यमाह शुभाननाम्। रेणुके किं चिरेण त्वमागतेति पुनः पुनः ॥१३-९७-१४॥
sa tām ṛṣis tataḥ kruddho vākyam āha śubhān anām। reṇuke kiṃ cireṇa tvam āgata iti punaḥ punaḥ ॥13-97-14॥
[स (sa) (sa) - he; ताम् (tām) (tām) - to her; ऋषिः (ṛṣiḥ) (ṛṣiḥ) - the sage; ततः (tataḥ) (tataḥ) - then; क्रुद्धः (kruddhaḥ) (kruddhaḥ) - angry; वाक्यम् (vākyam) (vākyam) - words; आह (āha) (āha) - spoke; शुभाननाम् (śubhān anām) (śubhān anām) - of auspicious name (addressing one of auspicious name); रेणुके (reṇuke) (reṇuke) - O Reṇukā; किं (kiṃ) (kiṃ) - why; चिरेण (cireṇa) (cireṇa) - so long (after a long time); त्वम् (tvam) (tvam) - you; आगते (āgate) (āgate) - (have) come; इति (iti) (iti) - thus; पुनः पुनः (punaḥ punaḥ) (punaḥ punaḥ) - again and again;]
(He then, the sage, angry, spoke words to her of auspicious name: "O Reṇukā, why do you, after so long, have come?" thus, again and again.)
Thereupon, the sage, angered, spoke to her of auspicious name: "O Reṇukā, why have you come after so long?"—thus, again and again. (13-97-14)

शिरस्तावत्प्रदीप्तं मे पादौ चैव तपोधन। सूर्यतेजोनिरुद्धाहं वृक्षच्छायामुपाश्रिता ॥१३-९७-१५॥
śiras tāvat pradīptaṁ me pādau caiva tapodhana। sūrya-tejo-niruddhāhaṁ vṛkṣa-chāyām upāśritā ॥13-97-15॥
[शिरस् (śiras) - head; तावत् (tāvat) - thus far; प्रदीप्तं (pradīptaṁ) - burning; inflamed; मे (me) - my; पादौ (pādau) - feet; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - also; तपोधन (tapodhana) - O ascetic (possessor of tapas); सूर्यतेजोनिरुद्धा (sūrya-tejo-niruddhā) - checked by the sun's radiance; अहं (ahaṁ) - I; वृक्षच्छायाम् (vṛkṣa-chāyām) - tree's shade; उपाश्रिता (upāśritā) - taken refuge in;]
(Head thus far burning, my feet also, O ascetic; checked by the sun's radiance, I have taken refuge in the tree's shade.)
O ascetic, my head is burning, and my feet as well; being checked by the sun's radiance, I have taken refuge in the shade of a tree. (13-97-15)
एतस्मात्कारणाद्ब्रह्मंश्चिरमेतत्कृतं मया। एतज्ज्ञात्वा मम विभो मा क्रुधस्त्वं तपोधन ॥१३-९७-१६॥
etasmāt kāraṇād brahman ciram etat kṛtaṃ mayā। etaj jñātvā mama vibho mā krudhaḥ tvaṃ tapodhana ॥13-97-16॥
[एतस्मात् (etasmāt) (etasmāt) - from this; कारणात् (kāraṇāt) (kāraṇāt) - reason; ब्रह्मन् (brahman) (brahman) - O Brahman; चिरम् (ciram) (ciram) - for a long time; एतत् (etat) (etat) - this; कृतम् (kṛtam) (kṛtam) - done; मया (mayā) (mayā) - by me; एतत् (etat) (etat) - this; ज्ञात्वा (jñātvā) (jñātvā) - having known; मम (mama) (mama) - my; विभो (vibho) (vibho) - O Lord; मा (mā) (mā) - do not; क्रुधः (krudhaḥ) (krudhaḥ) - be angry; त्वम् (tvam) (tvam) - you; तपोधन (tapodhana) (tapodhana) - O one rich in austerity;]
(From this reason, O Brahman, for a long time, this was done by me. Having known this, O my Lord, do not be angry, you, O one rich in austerity.)
O Brahman, for this reason, I have done this for a long time. Having understood this, O Lord, do not be angry with me, O ascetic. (13-97-16)
जमदग्निरुवाच॥

अद्यैनं दीप्तकिरणं रेणुके तव दुःखदम्। शरैर्निपातयिष्यामि सूर्यमस्त्राग्नितेजसा ॥१३-९७-१७॥
adya enaṃ dīptakiraṇaṃ reṇuke tava duḥkhadam | śaraiḥ nipātayiṣyāmi sūryamastrāgnitejasā ॥13-97-17॥
[अद्य (adya) - today; एनम् (enam) - this (one); दीप्तकिरणम् (dīptakiraṇam) - having shining rays; रेणुके (reṇuke) - O Reṇukā; तव (tava) - of you; दुःखदम् (duḥkhadam) - giver of sorrow; शरैः (śaraiḥ) - with arrows; निपातयिष्यामि (nipātayiṣyāmi) - I will bring down; सूर्यम् (sūryam) - the Sun; अस्त्र (astra) - weapon; अग्नि (agni) - fire; तेजसा (tejasā) - by the brilliance;]
(Today this shining-rayed one, O Reṇukā, giver of your sorrow, with arrows I will bring down the Sun by the brilliance of weapon and fire.)
O Reṇukā, today I will bring down the Sun with arrows, whose brilliant rays are the cause of your sorrow, using the power of weapons and fire. (13-97-17)

sa visphārya dhanur divyaṃ gṛhītvā ca bahūñ śarān | atiṣṭhat sūryam abhito yato yāti tato-mukhaḥ ॥13-97-18॥
[स (sa) - he; विस्फार्य (visphārya) - having extended; धनुः (dhanuḥ) - bow; दिव्यं (divyaṃ) - divine; गृहीत्वा (gṛhītvā) - having taken; च (ca) - and; बहून् (bahūn) - many; शरान् (śarān) - arrows; अतिष्ठत् (atiṣṭhat) - he stood; सूर्यम् (sūryam) - the sun; अभितः (abhitaḥ) - towards; यतः (yataḥ) - where; याति (yāti) - moves; ततः (tataḥ) - in that direction; मुखः (mukhaḥ) - his face (turned);]
(He, having stretched the divine bow and having taken many arrows, stood facing towards the sun, where it moves, his face in that direction.)

अथ तं प्रहरिष्यन्तं सूर्योऽभ्येत्य वचोऽब्रवीत्। द्विजरूपेण कौन्तेय किं ते सूर्योऽपराध्यते ॥१३-९७-१९॥
atha taṃ prahariṣyantaṃ sūryo'bhyetya vaco'bravīt. dvijarūpeṇa kaunteya kiṃ te sūryo'parādhyate ॥13-97-19॥
[अथ (atha) - then; तं (taṃ) - him; प्रहरिष्यन्तं (prahariṣyantam) - about to strike; सूर्यः (sūryaḥ) - the Sun; अभ्येत्य (abhyetya) - approaching; वचः (vacaḥ) - words; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - spoke; द्विजरूपेण (dvijarūpeṇa) - in the form of a twice-born (brāhmaṇa); कौन्तेय (kaunteya) - O son of Kunti; किं (kiṃ) - why; ते (te) - by you; सूर्यः (sūryaḥ) - the Sun; अपराध्यते (aparādhyate) - has been wronged;]
(Then, approaching the one about to strike, the Sun spoke words: In the form of a twice-born, O son of Kunti, why is the Sun wronged by you? (13-97-19))
Then, as he was about to strike, the Sun approached and spoke: 'In the form of a brāhmaṇa, O son of Kunti, why has the Sun been wronged by you?' (13-97-19)
आदत्ते रश्मिभिः सूर्यो दिवि विद्वंस्ततस्ततः। रसं स तं वै वर्षासु प्रवर्षति दिवाकरः ॥१३-९७-२०॥
ādattē raśmibhiḥ sūryō divi vidvaṃstatastataḥ। rasaṃ sa taṃ vai varṣāsu pravaṛṣati divākaraḥ ॥13-97-20॥
[आदत्ते (ādattē) - takes; receives; रश्मिभिः (raśmibhiḥ) - with rays; सूर्यः (sūryaḥ) - the Sun; दिवि (divi) - in the sky; विद्वान् (vidvān) - knowing; wise; ततस्ततः (tatastataḥ) - here and there; from various places; रसं (rasaṃ) - essence; moisture; सः (saḥ) - he; तं (taṃ) - that; वै (vai) - indeed; वर्षासु (varṣāsu) - in the rains; during the rainy season; प्रवर्षति (pravarṣati) - pours forth; sends down; दिवाकरः (divākaraḥ) - the Sun (maker of the day);]
(Takes with rays the Sun in the sky, knowing, here and there, essence; he that indeed in the rains pours forth, the Sun.)
The Sun, knowing, takes in the essence from various places in the sky with his rays; he indeed pours out that essence during the rainy season (13-97-20).
ततोऽन्नं जायते विप्र मनुष्याणां सुखावहम्। अन्नं प्राणा इति यथा वेदेषु परिपठ्यते ॥१३-९७-२१॥
tato'naṃ jāyate vipra manuṣyāṇāṃ sukhāvaham। annaṃ prāṇā iti yathā vedeṣu paripaṭhyate ॥13-97-21॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - from that; अन्नम् (annam) - food; जायते (jāyate) - is produced; विप्र (vipra) - O wise one; मनुष्याणाम् (manuṣyāṇām) - of men; सुखावहम् (sukhāvaham) - bringing happiness; अन्नम् (annam) - food; प्राणाः (prāṇāḥ) - vital breaths; इति (iti) - thus; यथा (yathā) - as; वेदेषु (vedeṣu) - in the Vedas; परिपठ्यते (paripaṭhyate) - is extensively stated;]
(From that, food is produced, O wise one, for men bringing happiness. Food [and] vital breaths, thus as in the Vedas it is extensively stated.)
From that, O wise one, food arises for men, bringing happiness. Food and vital breaths—so it is extensively proclaimed in the Vedas. (13-97-21)
अथाभ्रेषु निगूढश्च रश्मिभिः परिवारितः। सप्त द्वीपानिमान्ब्रह्मन्वर्षेणाभिप्रवर्षति ॥१३-९७-२२॥
athābhreṣu nigūḍhaś ca raśmibhiḥ parivāritaḥ। sapta dvīpān imān brahman varṣeṇa abhipravarṣati॥13-97-22॥
[अथ (atha) - then; आभ्रेषु (ābhreṣu) - in the clouds; निगूढः (nigūḍhaḥ) - hidden; च (ca) - and; रश्मिभिः (raśmibhiḥ) - by rays; परिवारितः (parivāritaḥ) - surrounded; सप्त (sapta) - seven; द्वीपान् (dvīpān) - islands; इमान् (imān) - these; ब्रह्मन् (brahman) - O Brahman; वर्षेण (varṣeṇa) - by rain; अभिप्रवर्षति (abhipravarṣati) - over-showers;]
(Then, being hidden in the clouds and surrounded by rays, he overshowers these seven islands, O Brahman, with rain.)
Then, hidden in the clouds and surrounded by rays, he showers rain upon these seven islands, O Brahman. (13-97-22)
ततस्तदौषधीनां च वीरुधां पत्रपुष्पजम्। सर्वं वर्षाभिनिर्वृत्तमन्नं सम्भवति प्रभो ॥१३-९७-२३॥
tatas tad auṣadhīnāṃ ca vīrudhāṃ patra-puṣpa-jam। sarvaṃ varṣābhinirvṛttam annaṃ sambhavati prabho॥13-97-23॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; तत् (tat) - that; औषधीनाम् (auṣadhīnāṃ) - of herbs; च (ca) - and; वीरुधाम् (vīrudhām) - of creepers; पत्रपुष्पजम् (patra-puṣpa-jam) - born of leaves and flowers; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; वर्षाभिनिर्वृत्तम् (varṣābhinirvṛttam) - having arisen (completed) after the rains; अन्नम् (annam) - food; सम्भवति (sambhavati) - arises; प्रभो (prabho) - O lord;]
(Then, that of the herbs and also of the creepers, all food born of leaves and flowers, having arisen after the rains, arises, O lord.)
Then, O lord, all the food born from the leaves and flowers of herbs and creepers arises after the rains. (13-97-23)
जातकर्माणि सर्वाणि व्रतोपनयनानि च। गोदानानि विवाहाश्च तथा यज्ञसमृद्धयः ॥१३-९७-२४॥
jātakarmāṇi sarvāṇi vratopanayanāni ca। godānāni vivāhāś ca tathā yajñasamṛddhayaḥ ॥13-97-24॥
[जातकर्माणि (jātakarmāṇi) - birth rites; सर्वाणि (sarvāṇi) - all; व्रतोपनयनानि (vratopananayanāni) - initiation ceremonies and vows; च (ca) - and; गोदानानि (godānāni) - cow-givings (gifting of cows); विवाहाः (vivāhāḥ) - marriages; च (ca) - and; तथा (tathā) - also; यज्ञसमृद्धयः (yajñasamṛddhayaḥ) - prosperities of sacrifices;]
(Birth rites all, initiation ceremonies and vows and, cow-givings, marriages and, also prosperities of sacrifices.)
All birth rites, initiation rituals and vows, gifts of cows, marriages, and also the prosperities of sacrifices. (13-97-24)
सत्राणि दानानि तथा संयोगा वित्तसञ्चयाः। अन्नतः सम्प्रवर्तन्ते यथा त्वं वेत्थ भार्गव ॥१३-९७-२५॥
satrāṇi dānāni tathā saṃyogā vittasañcayāḥ। annataḥ sampravartante yathā tvaṃ vettha bhārgava ॥13-97-25॥
[सत्राणि (satrāṇi) - sacrificial sessions; दानानि (dānāni) - gifts; तथा (tathā) - likewise; संयोगाः (saṃyogāḥ) - coming together; वित्तसञ्चयाः (vittasañcayāḥ) - accumulations of wealth; अन्नतः (annataḥ) - from food; सम्प्रवर्तन्ते (sampravartante) - proceed; यथा (yathā) - as; त्वम् (tvaṃ) - you; वेत्थ (vettha) - know; भार्गव (bhārgava) - O Bhārgava;]
(Sacrificial sessions, gifts, likewise comings together, accumulations of wealth, from food proceed, as you know, O Bhārgava.)
O Bhārgava, as you know, sacrificial sessions, gifts, all gatherings, and accumulations of wealth arise from food. (13-97-25)
रमणीयानि यावन्ति यावदारम्भकाणि च। सर्वमन्नात्प्रभवति विदितं कीर्तयामि ते ॥१३-९७-२६॥
ramaṇīyāni yāvanti yāvadārambhakāṇi ca। sarvam annāt prabhavati viditaṃ kīrtayāmi te॥13-97-26॥
[रमणीयानि (ramaṇīyāni) - pleasant things; यावन्ति (yāvanti) - as many as; यावदारम्भकाणि (yāvadārambhakāṇi) - as many beginnings as; च (ca) - and; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; अन्नात् (annāt) - from food; प्रभवति (prabhavati) - arises; विदितम् (viditam) - having been known; कीर्तयामि (kīrtayāmi) - I declare; ते (te) - to you;]
(Pleasant things, as many as there are, and as many beginnings, all arise from food; having been known, I declare to you.)
All pleasant things and all beginnings proceed from food; having realized this, I declare it to you. (13-97-26)
सर्वं हि वेत्थ विप्र त्वं यदेतत्कीर्तितं मया। प्रसादये त्वा विप्रर्षे किं ते सूर्यो निपात्यते ॥१३-९७-२७॥
sarvaṃ hi vettha vipra tvaṃ yad etat kīrtitaṃ mayā। prasādaye tvā vipraṛṣe kiṃ te sūryo nipātyate॥13-97-27॥
[सर्वं (sarvaṃ) - all; everything; हि (hi) - indeed; वेत्थ (vettha) - you know; विप्र (vipra) - brāhmaṇa; sage; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; यत् (yad) - which; that; एतत् (etat) - this; कीर्तितं (kīrtitaṃ) - declared; recounted; मया (mayā) - by me; प्रसादये (prasādaye) - I entreated; I propitiate; त्वा (tvā) - you; विप्रर्षे (vipraṛṣe) - O best of brāhmaṇas; O brāhmaṇa-sage; किं (kiṃ) - why; what; ते (te) - from you; for you; सूर्यः (sūryaḥ) - the sun; निपात्यते (nipātyate) - is caused to fall; is felled;]
(All indeed you know, O brāhmaṇa, you, which this declared by me. I entreat you, O brāhmaṇa-sage, why for you is the sun caused to fall.)
You, O brāhmaṇa, truly know all that I have recounted. I respectfully ask you, O brāhmaṇa-sage, why is the sun brought down for your sake? (13-97-27)
