evamuktastu rājendra keśihā duḥkhamūrcchitaḥ। tatheti vyājahāroccairhlādayanniva taṃ janam॥14-67-1॥
[एवमुक्तः (evam-uktaḥ) - thus addressed; तु (tu) - but; राजेन्द्र (rājendra) - O king (Indra among kings); केशिहा (keśihā) - slayer of Keśi; दुःखमूर्छितः (duḥkha-mūrcchitaḥ) - fainted with sorrow; तथा (tathā) - so; इति (iti) - thus; व्याजहार (vyājahāra) - spoke; उच्चैः (uccaiḥ) - aloud; ह्लादयन् (hlādayan) - delighting; इव (iva) - as if; तं (tam) - that; जनम् (janam) - people;]
(Thus addressed, but O king, the slayer of Keśi, fainted with sorrow, so spoke aloud, delighting as if that people.)
But thus addressed, O king, the slayer of Keśi, who was faint with sorrow, said “So be it” aloud, as if delighting that assembly. (14-67-1)
वाक्येन तेन हि तदा तं जनं पुरुषर्षभः। ह्लादयामास स विभुर्घर्मार्तं सलिलैरिव ॥१४-६७-२॥
vākyena tena hi tadā taṃ janaṃ puruṣarṣabhaḥ। hlādayāmāsa sa vibhurgharmārtaṃ salilairiva ॥14-67-2॥

With that statement, the foremost of men indeed then gladdened that person; just as one afflicted by heat is refreshed by waters. (14-67-2)
ततः स प्राविशत्तूर्णं जन्मवेश्म पितुस्तव। अर्चितं पुरुषव्याघ्र सितैर्माल्यैर्यथाविधि ॥१४-६७-३॥
tataḥ sa prāviśattūrṇaṃ janmaveśma pitustava। arcitaṃ puruṣavyāghra sitairmālyairyathāvidhi ॥14-67-3॥

(Then he quickly entered your father's birth-house, tiger among men, worshipped with white garlands according to rule.)
Then he quickly entered your father's birth-house, O tiger among men, which had been worshipped with white garlands according to the prescribed method. (14-67-3)
अपां कुम्भैः सुपूर्णैश्च विन्यस्तैः सर्वतोदिशम्। घृतेन तिन्दुकालातैः सर्षपैश्च महाभुज ॥१४-६७-४॥
apāṃ kumbhaiḥ supūrṇaiś ca vinyastaiḥ sarvatodiśam। ghṛtena tindukālātaiḥ sarṣapaiś ca mahābhuja ॥14-67-4॥

(O mighty-armed one, by jars of waters well-filled and placed on all sides, with ghee, with tinduka leaf and shoot, and with mustard seeds.)

शस्त्रैश्च विमलैर्न्यस्तैः पावकैश्च समन्ततः। वृद्धाभिश्चाभिरामाभिः परिचारार्थमच्युतः ॥१४-६७-५॥
śastraiś ca vimalair nyastaiḥ pāvakaiś ca samantataḥ। vṛddhābhiś cābhirāmābhiḥ paricārārtham acyutaḥ ॥14-67-5॥

(And by weapons spotless laid down, and by fires all around, and by aged and charming women for the purpose of service, Acyuta (Kṛṣṇa) (was attended).)
Acyuta (Krishna) was attended by spotless weapons laid down, sacred fires all around, and elderly and charming women devoted to his service. (14-67-5)
दक्षैश्च परितो वीर भिषग्भिः कुशलैस्तथा। ददर्श च स तेजस्वी रक्षोघ्नान्यपि सर्वशः ॥ द्रव्याणि स्थापितानि स्म विधिवत्कुशलैर्जनैः ॥१४-६७-६॥
dakṣaiś ca parito vīra bhiṣagbhiḥ kuśalaiḥ tathā। dadarśa ca sa tejasvī rakṣoghnāni api sarvaśaḥ॥ dravyāṇi sthāpitāni sma vidhivat kuśalaiḥ janaiḥ॥14-67-6॥
[दक्षैः (dakṣaiḥ) - by skillful (persons); च (ca) - and; परितः (paritaḥ) - on all sides; वीर (vīra) - O hero; भिषग्भिः (bhiṣagbhiḥ) - by physicians; कुशलैः (kuśalaiḥ) - by experts; तथा (tathā) - thus; ददर्श (dadarśa) - he saw; च (ca) - and; स (sa) - he; तेजस्वी (tejasvī) - the brilliant one; रक्षोघ्नानि (rakṣoghnāni) - demon-destroying (means); अपि (api) - also; सर्वशः (sarvaśaḥ) - in every way; द्रव्याणि (dravyāṇi) - substances; स्थापितानि (sthāpitāni) - arranged; स्म (sma) - indeed; विधिवत् (vidhivat) - properly; कुशलैः (kuśalaiḥ) - by the skillful; जनैः (janaiḥ) - by people;]
(And, O hero, on all sides by skillful persons and also by expert physicians thus—the brilliant one saw demon-destroying (means) also in every way, and substances indeed arranged properly by the skillful people.)
O hero, on all sides, he saw, by skillful and expert physicians, means for destroying demons in every way, and substances duly arranged by skillful people. (14-67-6)
तथायुक्तं च तद्दृष्ट्वा जन्मवेश्म पितुस्तव। हृष्टोऽभवद्धृषीकेशः साधु साध्विति चाब्रवीत् ॥१४-६७-७॥
tathā-yuktaṃ ca tad-dṛṣṭvā janma-veśma pituḥ tava। hṛṣṭaḥ abhavat dhṛṣīkeśaḥ sādhu sādhu iti ca abravīt ॥14-67-7॥
[तथा (tathā) - thus; युक्तं (yuktaṃ) - fitting; appropriate; च (ca) - and; तत् (tat) - that; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; जन्मवेश्म (janma-veśma) - birth house; birthplace; पितुः (pituḥ) - of (your) father; तव (tava) - your; हृष्टः (hṛṣṭaḥ) - gladdened; delighted; अभवत् (abhavat) - became; धृषीकेशः (dhṛṣīkeśaḥ) - Dhṛṣīkeśa; (a name of Kṛṣṇa/Viṣṇu); साधु साधु (sādhu sādhu) - excellent! excellent!; इति (iti) - thus; so; च (ca) - and; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - (he) said;]
(Thus, having seen that fitting (act) and the birth house of your father, Dhṛṣīkeśa became delighted and said, "Excellent! Excellent!" thus.)
Having thus seen that appropriate thing and the birthplace of your father, Dhṛṣīkeśa became delighted and said, "Excellent! Excellent!" (14-67-7)
तथा ब्रुवति वार्ष्णेये प्रहृष्टवदने तदा। द्रौपदी त्वरिता गत्वा वैराटीं वाक्यमब्रवीत् ॥१४-६७-८॥
tathā bruvati vārṣṇeye prahṛṣṭavadane tadā. draupadī tvaritā gatvā vairāṭīṃ vākyam abravīt ॥14-67-8॥
[तथा (tathā) - thus; ब्रुवति (bruvati) - speaking (when was speaking); वार्ष्णेये (vārṣṇeye) - to Vārṣṇeya (Krishna/son of Vṛṣṇi); प्रहृष्टवदने (prahṛṣṭavadane) - with delighted face; तदा (tadā) - then; द्रौपदी (draupadī) - Draupadī; त्वरिता (tvaritā) - hurried; गत्वा (gatvā) - having gone; वैराटीं (vairāṭīṃ) - to the queen of Virāṭa (Sudeshnā); वाक्यम् (vākyam) - words; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - spoke;]
(Thus, when Vārṣṇeya was speaking with delighted face then Draupadī, hurried, having gone to the queen of Virāṭa, spoke words.)
Thus, while Vārṣṇeya (Krishna) was speaking with a delighted face, Draupadī quickly went to the queen of Virāṭa and spoke words to her. (14-67-8)
अयमायाति ते भद्रे श्वशुरो मधुसूदनः। पुराणर्षिरचिन्त्यात्मा समीपमपराजितः ॥१४-६७-९॥
ayam āyāti te bhadre śvaśuro madhusūdanaḥ. purāṇarṣir acintyātmā samīpam aparājitaḥ ॥14-67-9॥
[अयम् (ayam) - this; आयाति (āyāti) - comes; ते (te) - to you; भद्रे (bhadre) - O auspicious one; श्वशुरः (śvaśuraḥ) - father-in-law; मधुसूदनः (madhusūdanaḥ) - Madhusūdana; पुराणऋषिः (purāṇarṣiḥ) - ancient seer; अचिन्त्यात्मा (acintyātmā) - whose nature is inconceivable; समीपम् (samīpam) - near; अपराजितः (aparājitaḥ) - unconquered one;]
(This comes to you, O auspicious one, your father-in-law, Madhusūdana, the ancient seer, whose nature is inconceivable, near, the unconquered one.)
O auspicious one, Madhusūdana, your father-in-law—an ancient seer, whose nature is inconceivable and who is unconquered—has come near you. (14-67-9)
सापि बाष्पकलां वाचं निगृह्याश्रूणि चैव ह। सुसंवीताभवद्देवी देववत्कृष्णमीक्षती ॥१४-६७-१०॥
sāpi bāṣpakalāṁ vācaṁ nigṛhyāśrūṇi caiva ha। susaṁvītābhavaddevī devavatkṛṣṇamīkṣatī ॥14-67-10॥
[सापि (sā api) - she also; बाष्पकलां (bāṣpakalām) - (with) tearful (fragment of) voice; वाचं (vācam) - speech; निगृह्य (nigṛhya) - having restrained; अश्रूणि (aśrūṇi) - tears; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; ह (ha) - certainly; सुसंवीता (susaṁvītā) - well-veiled/dressed; अभवत् (abhavat) - became; देवी (devī) - the Lady; देववत् (devavat) - like a goddess; कृष्णम् (kṛṣṇam) - Kṛṣṇa; ईक्षती (īkṣatī) - seeing;]
(She also, having restrained her tearful voice and her tears indeed, became well-veiled, the Lady, gazing at Kṛṣṇa like a goddess.)
She too, holding back her tearful voice and her tears, became gracefully veiled, and gazed at Kṛṣṇa like a goddess. (14-67-10)
सा तथा दूयमानेन हृदयेन तपस्विनी। दृष्ट्वा गोविन्दमायान्तं कृपणं पर्यदेवयत् ॥१४-६७-११॥
sā tathā dūyamānena hṛdayena tapasvinī। dṛṣṭvā govindam āyāntam kṛpaṇam paryadevayat ॥14-67-11॥
[सा (sā) (sā) - she (that woman); तथा (tathā) (tathā) - thus; in that manner; दूयमानेन (dūyamānena) (dūyamānena) - tormented; suffering; हृदयेन (hṛdayena) (hṛdayena) - in (her) heart; तपस्विनी (tapasvinī) (tapasvinī) - ascetic woman; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; गोविन्दम् (govindam) (govindam) - Govinda (Kr̥ṣṇa); आयान्तम् (āyāntam) (āyāntam) - coming; कृपणम् (kṛpaṇam) (kṛpaṇam) - miserable; pitiable; परीदेवयत् (paryadevayat) (paryadevayat) - lamented; grieved;]
(She thus, with a tormented heart, the ascetic woman, having seen Govinda coming miserably, lamented.)
In this manner, the ascetic woman, her heart suffering, saw the pitiable Govinda coming and lamented. (14-67-11)
पुण्डरीकाक्ष पश्यस्व बालाविह विनाकृतौ। अभिमन्युं च मां चैव हतौ तुल्यं जनार्दन ॥१४-६७-१२॥
puṇḍarīkākṣa paśyasva bālāviha vinākṛtau। abhimanyuṃ ca māṃ caiva hatau tulyaṃ janārdana॥14-67-12॥

वार्ष्णेय मधुहन्वीर शिरसा त्वां प्रसादये। द्रोणपुत्रास्त्रनिर्दग्धं जीवयैनं ममात्मजम् ॥१४-६७-१३॥
vārṣṇeya madhu-han-vīra śirasā tvāṃ prasādaye। droṇa-putra-astra-nirdagdhaṃ jīvaya enaṃ mama ātmajam ॥14-67-13॥

यदि स्म धर्मराज्ञा वा भीमसेनेन वा पुनः। त्वया वा पुण्डरीकाक्ष वाक्यमुक्तमिदं भवेत् ॥१४-६७-१४॥
yadi sma dharmarājñā vā bhīmasenena vā punaḥ। tvayā vā puṇḍarīkākṣa vākyam uktam idaṃ bhavet॥14-67-14॥

अजानतीमिषीकेयं जनित्रीं हन्त्विति प्रभो। अहमेव विनष्टा स्यां नेदमेवङ्गतं भवेत् ॥१४-६७-१५॥
ajānatīm iṣīkā iyaṁ janitrīṁ hantv iti prabho। aham eva vinaṣṭā syāṁ na idam evaṁ gataṁ bhavet॥14-67-15॥
[अजानतीम् (ajānatīm) - not knowing; इषीका (iṣīkā) - (with an) arrow; इयं (iyaṁ) - this; जनित्रीम् (janitrīm) - mother; हन्तु (hantu) - may slay; इति (iti) - thus; प्रभो (prabho) - O lord; अहम् (aham) - I; एव (eva) - indeed; विनष्टा (vinaṣṭā) - destroyed; स्याम् (syām) - may become; न (na) - not; इदम् (idam) - this; एवम् (evaṁ) - thus; गतं (gataṁ) - gone; भवेत् (bhavet) - may be;]
(Not knowing, with an arrow, this mother may slay, thus, O lord. I indeed destroyed may become, not this thus gone may be (should not happen thus).)
O lord, do not let this mother, not knowing, be slain by an arrow. Rather, let me alone be destroyed; let not this misfortune come to her. (14-67-15)
गर्भस्थस्यास्य बालस्य ब्रह्मास्त्रेण निपातनम्। कृत्वा नृशंसं दुर्बुद्धिर्द्रौणिः किं फलमश्नुते ॥१४-६७-१६॥
garbhasthasyāsya bālasya brahmāstreṇa nipātanam। kṛtvā nṛśaṁsaṁ durbuddhirdrauṇiḥ kiṁ phalamaśnute ॥14-67-16॥
[गर्भस्थस्य (garbhasthasya) - of the one (who is) in the womb; अस्य (asya) - this one's; बालस्य (bālasya) - of the boy; ब्रह्मास्त्रेण (brahmāstreṇa) - with (by means of) the Brahma-weapon; निपातनम् (nipātanam) - the casting down; कृत्वा (kṛtvā) - having done; नृशंसं (nṛśaṁsaṁ) - cruel; दुर्बुद्धिः (durbuddhiḥ) - one of wicked intellect; द्रौणिः (drauṇiḥ) - the son of Droṇa; किं (kiṁ) - what; फलम् (phalam) - fruit; अश्नुते (aśnute) - does (he) obtain;]
(Having cast down the boy in the womb of this one with the Brahma-weapon—having done this cruel (deed), what fruit does the son of Droṇa, of wicked intellect, obtain?)
Having killed this boy still in the womb with the Brahma-weapon—having committed such cruelty—what fruit does the wicked-minded son of Droṇa gain? (14-67-16)
सा त्वा प्रसाद्य शिरसा याचे शत्रुनिबर्हण। प्राणांस्त्यक्ष्यामि गोविन्द नायं सञ्जीवते यदि ॥१४-६७-१७॥
sā tvā prasādya śirasā yāce śatrunibarhaṇa। prāṇāṁstyakṣyāmi govinda nāyaṁ sañjīvate yadi ॥14-67-17॥
[सा (sā) - she; त्वा (tvā) - you; प्रसाद्य (prasādya) - having propitiated; शिरसा (śirasā) - with head (bowed); याचे (yāce) - I beseech; शत्रुनिबर्हण (śatrunibarhaṇa) - destroyer of enemies; प्राणान् (prāṇān) - lives; त्यक्ष्यामि (tyakṣyāmi) - I shall abandon; गोविन्द (govinda) - Govinda; न (na) - not; अयम् (ayam) - he; सञ्जीवते (sañjīvate) - revives; यदि (yadi) - if;]
(She, having propitiated you with (her) head, beseeches, O destroyer of enemies. I shall abandon (my) lives, Govinda, if he does not revive.)
She bows her head and entreats you, O Govinda, destroyer of enemies. If he does not come back to life, I shall give up my own life. (14-67-17)
अस्मिन्हि बहवः साधो ये ममासन्मनोरथाः। ते द्रोणपुत्रेण हताः किं नु जीवामि केशव ॥१४-६७-१८॥
asmin hi bahavaḥ sādho ye mamāsan manorathāḥ। te droṇaputreṇa hatāḥ kiṃ nu jīvāmi keśava ॥14-67-18॥
[अस्मिन्हि (asmin hi) - in this indeed; बहवः (bahavaḥ) - many; साधो (sādho) - O noble one; ये (ye) - which; मम (mama) - my; आसन् (āsan) - were; मनोरथाः (manorathāḥ) - desires of the mind; ते (te) - they; द्रोणपुत्रेण (droṇaputreṇa) - by the son of Droṇa; हताः (hatāḥ) - have been destroyed; किं (kiṃ) - why; नु (nu) - indeed; जीवामि (jīvāmi) - do I live; केशव (keśava) - O Keśava;]
(In this indeed, O noble one, many desires of my mind which existed, they by the son of Droṇa have been destroyed. Why indeed do I live, O Keśava?)
O Keśava, in this situation, O noble one, many of my desires have been destroyed by the son of Droṇa. Why indeed do I live?
आसीन्मम मतिः कृष्ण पूर्णोत्सङ्गा जनार्दन। अभिवादयिष्ये दिष्ट्येति तदिदं वितथीकृतम् ॥१४-६७-१९॥
āsīn mama matiḥ kṛṣṇa pūrṇotsaṅgā janārdana। abhivādayiṣye diṣṭy eti tad idaṃ vitathīkṛtam ॥14-67-19॥
[आसीत् (āsīt) - was; मम (mama) - my; मतिः (matiḥ) - thought; कृष्ण (kṛṣṇa) - Kṛṣṇa; पूर्णोत्सङ्गा (pūrṇotsaṅgā) - filled with embrace; जनार्दन (janārdana) - Janārdana; अभिवादयिष्ये (abhivādayiṣye) - I shall salute; दिष्ट्या (diṣṭyā) - fortunately; इति (iti) - thus; तत् (tat) - that; इदं (idaṃ) - this; वितथीकृतम् (vitathīkṛtam) - made untrue;]
(Was my thought, O Kṛṣṇa Janārdana, filled with embrace: 'I shall salute (you), fortunately'—thus, that, this, has been made untrue.)
O Kṛṣṇa Janārdana, my thought was always filled with the hope, 'Fortunately, I shall salute You with an embrace'; but that hope has now been made false. (14-67-19)
चपलाक्षस्य दायादे मृतेऽस्मिन्पुरुषर्षभ। विफला मे कृताः कृष्ण हृदि सर्वे मनोरथाः ॥१४-६७-२०॥
capalākṣasya dāyāde mṛte'sminpuruṣarṣabha। viphālā me kṛtāḥ kṛṣṇa hṛdi sarve manorathāḥ ॥14-67-20॥

(Of Capalākṣa in the heir, this one having died, O bull among men, fruitless my made, O Kṛṣṇa, in the heart all desires.)
O Kṛṣṇa, since this heir of Capalākṣa is dead, O best of men, all my desires cherished in my heart have become fruitless. (14-67-20)
चपलाक्षः किलातीव प्रियस्ते मधुसूदन। सुतं पश्यस्व तस्येमं ब्रह्मास्त्रेण निपातितम् ॥१४-६७-२१॥
capalākṣaḥ kilātīva priyaḥ te madhusūdana। sutaṃ paśyasva tasya imaṃ brahmāstreṇa nipātitam ॥14-67-21॥

कृतघ्नोऽयं नृशंसोऽयं यथास्य जनकस्तथा। यः पाण्डवीं श्रियं त्यक्त्वा गतोऽद्य यमसादनम् ॥१४-६७-२२॥
kṛtaghno'yaṃ nṛśaṃso'yaṃ yathāsya janakastathā | yaḥ pāṇḍavīṃ śriyaṃ tyaktvā gato'dya yamasādanam ॥14-67-22॥
[कृतघ्नः (kṛtaghnaḥ) - ungrateful one; अयम् (ayam) - this (person); नृशंसः (nṛśaṃsaḥ) - cruel one; अयम् (ayam) - this (person); यथा (yathā) - just as; अस्य (asya) - his; जनकः (janakaḥ) - father; तथा (tathā) - so; यः (yaḥ) - who; पाण्डवीं (pāṇḍavīm) - of the Pāṇḍavas; श्रियम् (śriyam) - prosperity; त्यक्त्वा (tyaktvā) - having abandoned; गतः (gataḥ) - has gone; अद्य (adya) - today; यमसादनम् (yamasādanam) - to the abode of Yama (death);]
(Ungrateful one, this (person); cruel one, this (person); just as his father, so (is he); who, having abandoned the prosperity of the Pāṇḍavas, has gone today to the abode of Yama.)
This man is ungrateful, this man is cruel; just like his father, so is he: he who, forsaking the Pāṇḍavas' prosperity, has today gone to the abode of Yama. (14-67-22)
मया चैतत्प्रतिज्ञातं रणमूर्धनि केशव। अभिमन्यौ हते वीर त्वामेष्याम्यचिरादिति ॥१४-६७-२३॥
mayā caitatpratijñātaṃ raṇamūrdhani keśava. abhimanyau hate vīra tvāmeṣyāmyacirāditi ॥14-67-23॥

(By me, and this has been vowed, on the battlefield, Keśava. With Abhimanyu being slain, O hero, to you I will come soon, thus.)
O Keśava, I have also vowed this on the battlefield: 'O hero, when Abhimanyu is slain, I will come to you soon.' (14-67-23)
तच्च नाकरवं कृष्ण नृशंसा जीवितप्रिया। इदानीमागतां तत्र किं नु वक्ष्यति फाल्गुनिः ॥१४-६७-२४॥
tac ca nākaravaṁ kṛṣṇa nṛśaṁsā jīvitapriyā। idānīm āgatāṁ tatra kiṁ nu vakṣyati phālguṇiḥ॥14-67-24॥

(That and not I did, Kṛṣṇa, cruel, fond of life. Now arrived there, what indeed will Phālguṇi say?)
But that I did not do, Kṛṣṇa — being cruel and attached to life. Now that I have come there, what indeed will Phālguṇi (Arjuna) say? (14-67-24)
