O scorcher of foes, at that time when the king, lord of Maṇipura, had resolved to fast unto death, overwhelmed by grief for his father along with his mother. (14-81-1)
Ulupi then thought of the reviving gem. And then that became the refuge of the serpents. (14-81-2)
But having seized him, O descendant of Kuru, the daughter of the lord of the serpent king then spoke words pleasing to the minds of the soldiers. (14-81-3)
Arise, do not grieve, son; this conqueror has not been killed by you. He is invincible by men, by the gods or even with Indra. (14-81-4)
But it is by me that this illusion named Mohini has today been created for the sake of your illustrious father, the lord of men. (14-81-5)
O son, this Kaurava, truly desirous to know about your army, the destroyer of enemy heroes, has come to you, O king, while you are fighting in battle. (14-81-6)
Therefore, my son, you have been urged by me to battle; do not suspect even the slightest sin in yourself, O lord. (14-81-7)
This sage, of great brilliance, is an eternal and imperishable man. Not even Indra, dear child, is able to conquer him in battle. (14-81-8)
But this divine jewel of mine, O lord of chiefs, which has been brought (here), always revives dead lordly serpents. (14-81-9)
But you, O lord, place this on his chest for your father. Revived again, son, then you will see Pāṇḍava. (14-81-10)
After being thus addressed, he, of immeasurable brilliance, placed the gem on the chest of Partha, out of affection for his father, for he was free from evil. (14-81-11)
O hero, when the jewel was placed there, the victorious lord, revived, arose as if from sleep, his red eyes cleansed. (14-81-12)
When Babhruvāhana saw his father, risen, of great soul, who had regained consciousness and was strong-minded and well, he bowed to him. (14-81-13)
When you had arisen, O tiger among men, and fortune returned, O lord, Indra showered divine, auspicious flowers. (14-81-14)
Unbeaten drums resounded and thunderous roars echoed; also, a very great sound of "Well done! Well done!" arose in the sky. (14-81-15)
But having arisen, the great-armed Dhananjaya, being embraced all around, embraced Babruvahana and kissed him on the head. (14-81-16)
Dhanañjaya (Arjuna) saw, not far away, his mother, emaciated by grief, standing together with Ulūpī, and then he inquired. (14-81-17)
What is all this that is seen, appearing as though with sorrow, astonishment, and joy? O destroyer of enemies on the battlefield, if you know, tell me. (14-81-18)
And why has your mother come to the battlefield? And this Ulūpī, the daughter of the lord of serpents, why has she come here? (14-81-19)
I know that this battle was done by you at my word. I desire to know the reason for the coming of the women. (14-81-20)
Then, being questioned, the lord of Maṇipura spoke to him at that time, having bowed his head in deference, and said, "Let the wise Ulūpī be questioned thus." (14-81-21)
