श्रुतं प्रियमिदं कृष्ण यत्त्वमर्हसि भाषितुम्। तन्मेऽमृतरसप्रख्यं मनो ह्लादयते विभो ॥१४-८९-१॥
śrutaṃ priyam idaṃ kṛṣṇa yat tvam arhasi bhāṣitum। tan me 'mṛtarasa-prakhyaṃ mano hlādayate vibho॥14-89-1॥
[श्रुतम् (śrutam) - heard; प्रियम् (priyam) - dear; इदं (idaṃ) - this; कृष्ण (kṛṣṇa) - Kṛṣṇa; यत् (yat) - which; त्वम् (tvam) - you; अर्हसि (arhasi) - are worthy (to); भाषितुम् (bhāṣitum) - to speak; तत् (tat) - that; मे (me) - to me; अमृतरसप्रख्यम् (amṛtarasa-prakhyam) - like nectar in essence; मनः (manaḥ) - mind; ह्लादयते (hlādayate) - delights; विभो (vibho) - O mighty one;]
(Heard dear this, O Kṛṣṇa, which you are worthy to speak; that to me resembling nectar-essence delights (my) mind, O mighty one.)
O Kṛṣṇa, this beloved thing which you are worthy to speak, having heard it, that which resembles the essence of nectar, delights my mind, O mighty one. (14-89-1)
बहूनि किल युद्धानि विजयस्य नराधिपैः। पुनरासन्हृषीकेश तत्र तत्रेति मे श्रुतम् ॥१४-८९-२॥
bahūni kila yuddhāni vijayasya narādhipaiḥ. punar āsan hṛṣīkeśa tatra tatra iti me śrutam ॥14-89-2॥
[बहूनि (bahūni) - many; किल (kila) - indeed; युद्धानि (yuddhāni) - battles; विजयस्य (vijayasya) - of victory; नराधिपैः (narādhipaiḥ) - by kings; पुनर् (punar) - again; आसन् (āsan) - there were; हृषीकेश (hṛṣīkeśa) - O Hṛṣīkeśa; तत्र (tatra) - here; तत्र (tatra) - there; इति (iti) - thus; मे (me) - by me; श्रुतम् (śrutam) - heard;]
(Many indeed battles of victory by kings again there were, O Hṛṣīkeśa, here there thus by me heard.)
O Hṛṣīkeśa, I have heard that indeed many battles for victory by kings were fought again and again here and there. (14-89-2)
मन्निमित्तं हि स सदा पार्थः सुखविवर्जितः। अतीव विजयो धीमानिति मे दूयते मनः ॥१४-८९-३॥
mannimittaṃ hi sa sadā pārthaḥ sukhavivarjitaḥ। atīva vijayo dhīmāniti me dūyate manaḥ ॥14-89-3॥
[मन्निमित्तं (mannimittaṃ) - on account of me; हि (hi) - indeed; स (sa) - he; सदा (sadā) - always; पार्थः (pārthaḥ) - Pārtha (Arjuna); सुखविवर्जितः (sukhavivarjitaḥ) - deprived of happiness; अतीव (atīva) - exceedingly; विजयः (vijayaḥ) - Vijaya (Arjuna, by epithet), also 'victorious'; धीमान् (dhīmān) - wise; इति (iti) - thus; मे (me) - my; दूयते (dūyate) - is pained; मनः (manaḥ) - mind;]
(On account of me indeed he always, Pārtha, deprived of happiness; exceedingly Vijaya, wise, thus my is pained mind.)
Because of me, indeed, that always Pārtha (Arjuna), deprived of happiness, exceedingly victorious and wise as he is—thus my mind is pained. (14-89-3)
सञ्चिन्तयामि वार्ष्णेय सदा कुन्तीसुतं रहः। किं नु तस्य शरीरेऽस्ति सर्वलक्षणपूजिते ॥ अनिष्टं लक्षणं कृष्ण येन दुःखान्युपाश्नुते ॥१४-८९-४॥
sañcintayāmi vārṣṇeya sadā kuntīsutaṃ rahaḥ। kiṃ nu tasya śarīre'sti sarvalakṣaṇapūjite ॥ aniṣṭaṃ lakṣaṇaṃ kṛṣṇa yena duḥkhānyupāśnute ॥14-89-4॥
[सञ्चिन्तयामि (sañcintayāmi) - I keep thinking; वार्ष्णेय (vārṣṇeya) - O descendant of Vṛṣṇi; सदा (sadā) - always; कुन्तीसुतं (kuntīsutaṃ) - son of Kuntī; रहः (rahaḥ) - in private; किं (kiṃ) - what; नु (nu) - indeed; तस्य (tasya) - in his; शरीरे (śarīre) - body; अस्ति (asti) - is; सर्वलक्षणपूजिते (sarvalakṣaṇapūjite) - adorned with all auspicious marks; अनिष्टं (aniṣṭaṃ) - inauspicious; लक्षणं (lakṣaṇam) - mark; कृष्ण (kṛṣṇa) - Kṛṣṇa; येन (yena) - by which; दुःखानि (duḥkhāni) - sufferings; उपाश्नुते (upāśnute) - he experiences;]
(I keep thinking, O Vārṣṇeya, always in private about the son of Kuntī: What indeed is in his body, adorned with all auspicious marks, (that is) an inauspicious mark, Kṛṣṇa, by which he experiences sufferings? (14-89-4))
O Vārṣṇeya, I am always pondering in private about the son of Kuntī: Is there, in his body adorned with all auspicious marks, any inauspicious sign, Kṛṣṇa, by which he is experiencing miseries? (14-89-4)
अतीव दुःखभागी स सततं कुन्तिनन्दनः। न च पश्यामि बीभत्सोर्निन्द्यं गात्रेषु किञ्चन ॥ श्रोतव्यं चेन्मयैतद्वै तन्मे व्याख्यातुमर्हसि ॥१४-८९-५॥
atīva duḥkhabhāgī sa satataṃ kuntinandanaḥ। na ca paśyāmi bībhatsornindyaṃ gātreṣu kiñcana ॥ śrotavyaṃ cenmayaitadvai tanme vyākhyātumarhasi ॥14-89-5॥
[अतीव (atīva) - excessively; greatly; दुःखभागी (duḥkhabhāgī) - one who shares in suffering; afflicted by sorrow; स (sa) - he; सततं (satatam) - always; continuously; कुन्तिनन्दनः (kuntinandanaḥ) - son of Kunti; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; also; पश्यामि (paśyāmi) - I see; बीभत्सोः (bībhatsor) - of Bībhatsu (Arjuna); निन्द्यं (nindyaṃ) - blameworthy; censurable; गात्रेषु (gātreṣu) - in the limbs; in the body; किञ्चन (kiñcana) - anything; श्रोतव्यं (śrotavyam) - to be heard; to be listened to; चेत् (cet) - if; मया (mayā) - by me; एतद्वै (etadvai) - indeed this; तन्मे (tanme) - that to me; व्याख्यातुम् (vyākhyātum) - to explain; अर्हसि (arhasi) - you ought; you should;]
(Excessively suffering he always, the son of Kunti. And I do not see anything blameworthy in the body of Bībhatsu. If indeed this is to be heard by me, that you should explain to me.)
He, the son of Kunti, is ever exceedingly afflicted with sorrow; and I do not see anything blameworthy in the body of Bībhatsu. If this is something I should hear, then please explain it to me. (14-89-5)
इत्युक्तः स हृषीकेशो ध्यात्वा सुमहदन्तरम्। राजानं भोजराजन्यवर्धनो विष्णुरब्रवीत् ॥१४-८९-६॥
ityuktaḥ sa hṛṣīkeśo dhyātvā sumahadantaram। rājānaṃ bhojarājanyavardhano viṣṇurabravīt ॥14-89-6॥
[इत्युक्तः (ityuktaḥ) - thus addressed; स (sa) - he; हृषीकेशः (hṛṣīkeśaḥ) - Hṛṣīkeśa (Krishna; literally, 'lord of the senses'); ध्यात्वा (dhyātvā) - having meditated upon; सुमहदन्तरम् (sumahadantaram) - very great difference; राजानम् (rājānam) - the king; भोजराजन्यवर्धनः (bhojarājanyavardhanaḥ) - one who increases the glory of the Bhoja kings; विष्णुः (viṣṇuḥ) - Viṣṇu (Krishna); अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - spoke;]
(Thus addressed, he, Hṛṣīkeśa, having meditated upon the very great difference, to the king, the increaser of the Bhoja dynasty, Viṣṇu spoke.)
Thus, when addressed, Hṛṣīkeśa (Krishna), after reflecting upon the very great difference, spoke to the king, the glory of the Bhoja line, (he) Viṣṇu. (14-89-6)
न ह्यस्य नृपते किञ्चिदनिष्टमुपलक्षये। ऋते पुरुषसिंहस्य पिण्डिकेऽस्यातिकायतः ॥१४-८९-७॥
na hy asya nṛpate kiñcid aniṣṭam upalakṣaye. ṛte puruṣasiṃhasya piṇḍike'syātikāyataḥ ॥14-89-7॥
[न (na) - not; हि (hi) - indeed; अस्य (asya) - of this; नृपते (nṛpate) - O king; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - anything; अनिष्टम् (aniṣṭam) - unfavorable; उपलक्षये (upalakṣaye) - I observe; ऋते (ṛte) - except; पुरुषसिंहस्य (puruṣasiṃhasya) - of the lion among men; पिण्डिके (piṇḍike) - on the shin; अस्य (asya) - his; अतिकायतः (atikāyataḥ) - excessive swelling;]
(Not indeed of this, O king, anything unfavorable I observe except on the lion among men's shin, of his, excessive swelling.)
O king, I observe nothing at all unfavorable in him, except for an excessive swelling on the shin of this lion among men. (14-89-7)
ताभ्यां स पुरुषव्याघ्रो नित्यमध्वसु युज्यते। न ह्यन्यदनुपश्यामि येनासौ दुःखभाग्जयः ॥१४-८९-८॥
tābhyāṁ sa puruṣavyāghro nityam adhvasu yujyate। na hy anyad anupaśyāmi yenāsau duḥkhabhāgjayaḥ ॥14-89-8॥
[ताभ्यां (tābhyām) - by these two; स (sa) - he; पुरुषव्याघ्रः (puruṣavyāghraḥ) - tiger among men; नित्यं (nityam) - always; अध्वसु (adhvasu) - in travels; युज्यते (yujyate) - is engaged; न (na) - not; हि (hi) - indeed; अन्यत् (anyat) - other; अनुपश्यामि (anupaśyāmi) - I see; येन (yena) - by which; असौ (asau) - he; दुःखभाग् (duḥkhabhāj) - partaker of suffering; जयः (jayaḥ) - conqueror;]
(By these two, he, the tiger among men, is always engaged in journeys. Indeed, I do not see any other by which this conqueror becomes a partaker of suffering.)
It is by these two that he, the tiger among men, is constantly engaged on journeys; for I see nothing else by which this victorious one partakes of suffering. (14-89-8)
इत्युक्तः स कुरुश्रेष्ठस्तथ्यं कृष्णेन धीमता। प्रोवाच वृष्णिशार्दूलमेवमेतदिति प्रभो ॥१४-८९-९॥
ityuktaḥ sa kuruśreṣṭhas tathyaṃ kṛṣṇena dhīmatā। provāca vṛṣṇiśārdūlam evam etad iti prabho ॥14-89-9॥
[इति (iti) - thus; उक्तः (uktaḥ) - having been addressed; सः (saḥ) - he; कुरुश्रेष्ठः (kuruśreṣṭhaḥ) - O best of the Kurus; तथ्यम् (tathyam) - true; कृष्णेन (kṛṣṇena) - by Kṛṣṇa; धीमता (dhīmatā) - wise; प्रोवाच (provāca) - said; वृष्णिशार्दूलम् (vṛṣṇiśārdūlam) - O tiger among the Vṛṣṇis; एवम् (evam) - thus; एतत् (etat) - this; इति (iti) - so; प्रभो (prabho) - O lord; ॥१४-८९-९॥ (॥14-89-9॥) -;]
(Thus addressed, he, the best of the Kurus, by wise Kṛṣṇa, (said), "It is true, O tiger among the Vṛṣṇis, thus this is so, O lord.")
Thus, when addressed by the wise Kṛṣṇa, the best of the Kurus said, "O tiger among the Vṛṣṇis, it is true; it is indeed so, O lord." (14-89-9)
कृष्णा तु द्रौपदी कृष्णं तिर्यक्सासूयमैक्षत। प्रतिजग्राह तस्यास्तं प्रणयं चापि केशिहा ॥ सख्युः सखा हृषीकेशः साक्षादिव धनञ्जयः ॥१४-८९-१०॥
kṛṣṇā tu draupadī kṛṣṇaṃ tiryak-sāsūyam aikṣata। pratijagrāha tasyās taṃ praṇayaṃ cāpi keśihā॥ sakhyuḥ sakhā hṛṣīkeśaḥ sākṣād iva dhanañjayaḥ॥14-89-10॥
[कृष्णा (kṛṣṇā) (kṛṣṇā) - dark-complexioned; तु (tu) (tu) - but; द्रौपदी (draupadī) (draupadī) - Draupadī; कृष्णं (kṛṣṇam) (kṛṣṇam) - Kṛṣṇa (proper name, vocative/object); तिर्यक् (tiryak) (tiryak) - sideways; सासूयम् (sāsūyam) (sāsūyam) - with jealousy; ऐक्षत (aikṣata) (aikṣata) - looked at; प्रतिजग्राह (pratijagrāha) (pratijagrāha) - accepted; तस्याः (tasyāḥ) (tasyāḥ) - her; तम् (tam) (tam) - that; प्रणयम् (praṇayam) (praṇayam) - affection; च (ca) (ca) - and; अपि (api) (api) - also; केशिहा (keśihā) (keśihā) - slayer of Keśi; सख्युः (sakhyuḥ) (sakhyuḥ) - of the friend; सखा (sakhā) (sakhā) - friend; हृषीकेशः (hṛṣīkeśaḥ) (hṛṣīkeśaḥ) - Hṛṣīkeśa (epithet of Kṛṣṇa); साक्षात् (sākṣāt) (sākṣāt) - directly; इव (iva) (iva) - as if; धनञ्जयः (dhanañjayaḥ) (dhanañjayaḥ) - Dhanañjaya (Arjuna; proper name);]
(But dark-complexioned Draupadī looked sideways with jealousy at Kṛṣṇa. Keśihā accepted also that affection of hers. Hṛṣīkeśa, the friend of the friend, as if directly Dhanañjaya.)
But Draupadī, the dark one, looked sidelong at Kṛṣṇa with some jealousy. Kṛṣṇa, the slayer of Keśi, also accepted her affection. Hṛṣīkeśa, the friend of the friend, was just like Dhanañjaya himself. (14-89-10)
तत्र भीमादयस्ते तु कुरवो यादवास्तथा। रेमुः श्रुत्वा विचित्रार्था धनञ्जयकथा विभो ॥१४-८९-११॥
tatra bhīmādayas te tu kuravo yādavās tathā | remuḥ śrutvā vicitrārthā dhanañjayakathā vibho ॥14-89-11॥
[तत्र (tatra) - there; भीमादयः (bhīmādayaḥ) - Bhima and others; ते (te) - they; तु (tu) - but; कुरवः (kuravaḥ) - the Kurus; यादवाः (yādavāḥ) - the Yadavas; तथा (tathā) - also; रेमुः (remuḥ) - delighted; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; विचित्रार्था (vicitrārthāḥ) - varied in meaning; धनञ्जयकथा (dhanañjaya-kathā) - Arjuna stories; विभो (vibho) - O lord;]
(There Bhima and others, they but the Kurus, the Yadavas also, delighted having heard the stories of Arjuna, varied in meaning, O lord.)
There, O lord, Bhima and others—the Kurus as well as the Yadavas—were delighted after hearing the many-varied tales of Arjuna. (14-89-11)
तथा कथयतामेव तेषामर्जुनसङ्कथाः। उपायाद्वचनान्मर्त्यो विजयस्य महात्मनः ॥१४-८९-१२॥
tathā kathayatāmeva teṣāmarjunasaṅkathāḥ। upāyādvacanānmartyo vijayasya mahātmanaḥ ॥14-89-12॥
[तथा (tathā) - thus; कथयताम् (kathayatām) - of those telling; एव (eva) - indeed; तेषाम् (teṣām) - of them; अर्जुनसङ्कथाः (arjunasaṅkathāḥ) - Arjuna-related stories; उपायात् (upāyāt) - from means; वचनात् (vacanāt) - from speech; मर्त्यः (martyaḥ) - a mortal; विजयस्य (vijayasya) - of Vijayā (Arjuna); महात्मनः (mahātmanaḥ) - of the great-souled;]
(Thus, indeed, of those telling, of them, Arjuna-related stories; from means, from speech, a mortal, of Vijayā (Arjuna), of the great-souled.)
Thus, indeed, of those who recount stories of Arjuna, a mortal attains the methods and words of the great-souled Vijaya (Arjuna). (14-89-12)
सोऽभिगम्य कुरुश्रेष्ठं नमस्कृत्य च बुद्धिमान्। उपायातं नरव्याघ्रमर्जुनं प्रत्यवेदयत् ॥१४-८९-१३॥
so'bhigamya kuruśreṣṭhaṃ namaskṛtya ca buddhimān. upāyātaṃ naravyāghram arjunaṃ pratyavedayat ॥14-89-13॥
[सः (saḥ) - he; अभिगम्य (abhigamya) - approaching; कुरुश्रेष्ठम् (kuruśreṣṭham) - to the best of the Kurus; नमस्कृत्य (namaskṛtya) - having bowed; च (ca) - and; बुद्धिमान् (buddhimān) - the intelligent (one); उपायातम् (upāyātam) - arrived; नरव्याघ्रम् (naravyāghram) - the tiger among men; अर्जुनम् (arjunam) - Arjuna; प्रत्यवेदयत् (pratyavedayat) - informed;]
(He, approaching the best of the Kurus, having bowed and (being) intelligent, (about the) arrived tiger among men, Arjuna, informed.)
He, approaching the best of the Kurus, bowed to him, and the intelligent one informed him that Arjuna, the tiger among men, had arrived. (14-89-13)
तच्छ्रुत्वा नृपतिस्तस्य हर्षबाष्पाकुलेक्षणः। प्रियाख्याननिमित्तं वै ददौ बहु धनं तदा ॥१४-८९-१४॥
tacchrutvā nṛpatis tasya harṣabāṣpākulekṣaṇaḥ। priyākhyānanimittaṃ vai dadau bahu dhanaṃ tadā ॥14-89-14॥
[तत् (tad) (tad) - that; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) (śrutvā) - having heard; नृपतिः (nṛpatiḥ) (nṛpatiḥ) - the king; तस्य (tasya) (tasya) - his; हर्षबाष्पाकुलेक्षणः (harṣabāṣpākulekṣaṇaḥ) (harṣabāṣpākulekṣaṇaḥ) - whose eyes were filled with tears of joy; प्रियाख्याननिमित्तं (priyākhyānanimittam) (priyākhyānanimittam) - on account of the pleasant tale; वै (vai) (vai) - indeed; ददौ (dadau) (dadau) - he gave; बहु (bahu) (bahu) - much; धनं (dhanam) (dhanam) - wealth; तदा (tadā) (tadā) - then;]
(That having heard, the king, whose eyes were filled with tears of joy, on account of the pleasant tale, indeed, gave much wealth then.)
Hearing that, the king, his eyes brimming with joyful tears because of the delightful story, indeed gave much wealth at that time. (14-89-14)
ततो द्वितीये दिवसे महाञ्शब्दो व्यवर्धत। आयाति पुरुषव्याघ्रे पाण्डवानां धुरन्धरे ॥१४-८९-१५॥
tato dvitīye divase mahāñśabdo vyavardhata। āyāti puruṣavyāghre pāṇḍavānāṃ dhurandhare ॥14-89-15॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; द्वितीये (dvitīye) - on the second; दिवसे (divase) - day; महान् (mahān) - great; शब्दः (śabdaḥ) - sound; व्यवर्धत (vyavardhata) - arose; आयाति (āyāti) - is coming; पुरुषव्याघ्रे (puruṣavyāghre) - best among men; पाण्डवानाम् (pāṇḍavānām) - of the Pāṇḍavas; धुरन्धरे (dhurandhare) - champion;]
(Then on the second day a great sound arose. The champion of the Pāṇḍavas, best among men, is coming.)

ततो रेणुः समुद्भूतो विबभौ तस्य वाजिनः। अभितो वर्तमानस्य यथोच्चैःश्रवसस्तथा ॥१४-८९-१६॥
tato reṇuḥ samudbhūto vibabhau tasya vājinaḥ। abhito vartamānasya yathoccaiḥśravasas tathā ॥14-89-16॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; रेणुः (reṇuḥ) - dust; समुद्भूतः (samudbhūtaḥ) - arisen; विबभौ (vibabhau) - shone; तस्य (tasya) - of his; वाजिनः (vājinaḥ) - horse; अभितः (abhitaḥ) - all around; वर्तमानस्य (vartamānasya) - moving; यथा (yathā) - as; उच्चैःश्रवसः (uccaiḥśravasaḥ) - Uccaiḥśravas (divine horse); तथा (tathā) - so;]
(Then dust arisen shone of his horse all around moving as Uccaiḥśravas so.)
Then, dust raised by his horse shone all around as Uccaiḥśravas moves. (14-89-16)
तत्र हर्षकला वाचो नराणां शुश्रुवेऽर्जुनः। दिष्ट्यासि पार्थ कुशली धन्यो राजा युधिष्ठिरः ॥१४-८९-१७॥
tatra harṣakalā vāco narāṇāṃ śuśruve'rjunaḥ। diṣṭyāsi pārtha kuśalī dhanyo rājā yudhiṣṭhiraḥ ॥14-89-17॥
[तत्र (tatra) - there; हर्षकला (harṣakalā) - joyful sounds; वाचः (vācaḥ) - voices; नराणाम् (narāṇām) - of men; शुश्रुवे (śuśruve) - was heard; अर्जुनः (arjunaḥ) - Arjuna; दिष्ट्या (diṣṭyā) - by fortune; असि (asi) - (you) are; पार्थ (pārtha) - O son of Pṛthā; कुशली (kuśalī) - safe; धन्यः (dhanyaḥ) - fortunate; राजा (rājā) - king; युधिष्ठिरः (yudhiṣṭhiraḥ) - Yudhiṣṭhira;]
(There joyful sounds voices of men were heard (by) Arjuna. By fortune, you are safe, O Pārtha, fortunate king Yudhiṣṭhira.)
There, Arjuna heard the joyful voices of men saying, "By fortune you are well, O Pārtha, and King Yudhiṣṭhira is blessed." (14-89-17)
कोऽन्यो हि पृथिवीं कृत्स्नामवजित्य सपार्थिवाम्। चारयित्वा हयश्रेष्ठमुपायायादृतेऽर्जुनम् ॥१४-८९-१८॥
ko'nyo hi pṛthivīṃ kṛtsnām avajitya sapārthivām। cārayitvā hayaśreṣṭham upāyāyād ṛte'rjunam॥14-89-18॥
[कः अन्यः (kaḥ anyaḥ) - who other; हि (hi) - indeed; पृथिवीं (pṛthivīm) - earth (accusative singular); कृत्स्नाम् (kṛtsnām) - entire; अवजित्य (avajitya) - having conquered; सपार्थिवाम् (sa-pārthivām) - with rulers; चारयित्वा (cārayitvā) - having caused to roam; हयश्रेष्ठम् (haya-śreṣṭham) - the best horse; उपायायात् (upāyāyāt) - would return; ऋते अर्जुनम् (ṛte arjunam) - except Arjuna; ॥१४-८९-१८॥ (॥14-89-18॥) - ;]
(Who other indeed, the entire earth having conquered along with (its) rulers, having caused the best horse to roam, would return, except Arjuna.)
Who else besides Arjuna, having conquered the entire earth with its kings and caused the best horse to journey, would return? (14-89-18)
ये व्यतीता महात्मानो राजानः सगरादयः। तेषामपीदृशं कर्म न किञ्चिदनुशुश्रुम ॥१४-८९-१९॥
ye vyatītā mahātmāno rājānaḥ sagarādayaḥ। teṣām apī-dṛśaṃ karma na kiñcid anuśuśrum ॥14-89-19॥
[ये (ye) - who; (those who); व्यतीता (vyatītā) - passed (away); departed; महात्मानः (mahātmānaḥ) - great souls; राजानः (rājānaḥ) - kings; सगरादयः (sagarādayaḥ) - Sagara and others; तेषाम् (teṣām) - of them; अपि (api) - also; ईदृशम् (īdṛśam) - such (this kind of); कर्म (karma) - action; न (na) - not; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - at all; anything; अनुशुश्रुम (anuśuśrum) - we have heard;]
(Who have passed, the great-souled kings, Sagara and others; of them, also, such action, not at all have we heard.)
Of those great-souled kings of the past, like Sagara and others, we have not heard of any such action at all. (14-89-19)
नैतदन्ये करिष्यन्ति भविष्याः पृथिवीक्षितः। यत्त्वं कुरुकुलश्रेष्ठ दुष्करं कृतवानिह ॥१४-८९-२०॥
naitadanye kariṣyanti bhaviṣyāḥ pṛthivīkṣitaḥ। yattvaṃ kurukulaśreṣṭha duṣkaraṃ kṛtavāniha॥14-89-20॥
[न (na) - not; एतत् (etat) - this; अन्ये (anye) - others; करिष्यन्ति (kariṣyanti) - will do; भविष्याः (bhaviṣyāḥ) - those to come; पृथिवीक्षितः (pṛthivīkṣitaḥ) - kings of the earth; यत् (yat) - which; त्वम् (tvam) - you; कुरुकुलश्रेष्ठ (kurukulaśreṣṭha) - best of the Kuru race; दुष्करम् (duṣkaram) - difficult to accomplish; कृतवान् (kṛtavān) - have done; इह (iha) - here;]
(Not this others will do, those to come, kings of the earth. Which you, best of the Kuru race, difficult to accomplish, have done here. (14-89-20))
None of the kings of the earth in the future will do this which you, best of the Kuru race, have done here, an act so difficult to accomplish. (14-89-20)
इत्येवं वदतां तेषां नॄणां श्रुतिसुखा गिरः। शृण्वन्विवेश धर्मात्मा फल्गुनो यज्ञसंस्तरम् ॥१४-८९-२१॥
ityevaṃ vadatāṃ teṣāṃ nṝṇāṃ śrutisukhā giraḥ। śṛṇvan viveśa dharmātmā phalguno yajñasaṃstaram ॥14-89-21॥
[इति एवम् (iti evam) - thus; in this way; वदताम् (vadatām) - of those speaking; तेषाम् (teṣām) - of them; नॄणाम् (nṝṇām) - of men; of people; श्रुतिसुखा (śrutisukhā) - pleasant to hear; गिरः (giraḥ) - words; शृण्वन् (śṛṇvan) - hearing; विवेश (viveśa) - entered; धर्मात्मा (dharmātmā) - righteous soul; फल्गुनः (phalgunaḥ) - Phalguna (another name of Arjuna); यज्ञसंस्तरम् (yajñasaṃstaram) - sacrificial altar;]
(Thus, the words of those men, pleasant to hear—hearing them, the righteous soul, Phalguna, entered the sacrificial altar.)
Hearing the pleasant words of those people, Phalguna—the righteous one—entered the sacrificial altar. (14-89-21)
ततो राजा सहामात्यः कृष्णश्च यदुनन्दनः। धृतराष्ट्रं पुरस्कृत्य ते तं प्रत्युद्ययुस्तदा ॥१४-८९-२२॥
tato rājā sahāmātyaḥ kṛṣṇaś ca yadunandanaḥ। dhṛtarāṣṭraṃ puraskṛtya te taṃ pratyudyayus tadā ॥14-89-22॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - thereafter; राजा (rājā) - the king; सहमात्यः (sahāmātyaḥ) - together with ministers; कृष्णः (kṛṣṇaḥ) - Kṛṣṇa; च (ca) - and; यदुनन्दनः (yadunandanaḥ) - descendant of the Yadu (Kṛṣṇa); धृतराष्ट्रं (dhṛtarāṣṭraṃ) - Dhṛtarāṣṭra (the king); पुरस्कृत्य (puraskṛtya) - placing before; ते (te) - they; तं (taṃ) - him; प्रत्युद्ययुः (pratyudyayuḥ) - went forth to meet; तदा (tadā) - then;]
(Thereafter the king, together with ministers, and Kṛṣṇa, the descendant of the Yadu, having placed Dhṛtarāṣṭra in front, they then went forth to meet him.)
Then, the king with his ministers and Kr̥ṣṇa, the Yadu's descendant, with Dhṛtarāṣṭra before them, went out to receive him. (14-89-22)
सोऽभिवाद्य पितुः पादौ धर्मराजस्य धीमतः। भीमादींश्चापि सम्पूज्य पर्यष्वजत केशवम् ॥१४-८९-२३॥
so'bhivādya pituḥ pādau dharmarājasya dhīmataḥ। bhīmādīṃś cāpi sampūjya paryaṣvajata keśavam ॥14-89-23॥
[सः (saḥ) - he; अभिवाद्य (abhivādya) - having respectfully saluted; पितुः (pituḥ) - of the father; पादौ (pādau) - feet (dual); धर्मराजस्य (dharmarājasya) - of Dharmarāja; धीमतः (dhīmataḥ) - wise; भीमादीन् (bhīmādīn) - Bhīma and others; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; सम्पूज्य (sampūjya) - having duly honored; पर्यष्वजत (paryaṣvajata) - embraced; केशवम् (keśavam) - Keśava;]
(He, having respectfully saluted the feet of his wise father Dharmarāja, and having duly honored Bhīma and others also, embraced Keśava.)

तैः समेत्यार्चितस्तान्स प्रत्यर्च्य च यथाविधि। विशश्रामाथ धर्मात्मा तीरं लब्ध्वेव पारगः ॥१४-८९-२४॥
taiḥ sametyārcitastāns pratyarcya ca yathāvidhi. viśaśrāmātha dharmātmā tīraṃ labdhveva pāragaḥ ॥14-89-24॥
[तैः (taiḥ) - by them; समेत्य (sametya) - having approached; आर्चितः (ārcitaḥ) - having been honored; तान् (tān) - them; सः (saḥ) - he; प्रत्यर्च्य (pratyarcya) - having reciprocally honored; च (ca) - and; यथा-विधि (yathā-vidhi) - according to rule; विशश्राम (viśaśrāma) - he rested; अथ (atha) - then; धर्मात्मा (dharmātmā) - righteous soul; तीरम् (tīram) - the bank; लब्ध्वा (labdhvā) - having attained; इव (iva) - as if; पारगः (pāragaḥ) - one who has crossed over;]
(By them having approached, having been honored, them, he, having reciprocally honored and according to rule, then the righteous soul rested, as one who has reached the bank having crossed over.)
Having approached and been honored by them, he, in turn, duly honored them; then the righteous soul rested, like a man who, having crossed over, has reached the bank. (14-89-24)
एतस्मिन्नेव काले तु स राजा बभ्रुवाहनः। मातृभ्यां सहितो धीमान्कुरूनभ्याजगाम ह ॥१४-८९-२५॥
etasminneva kāle tu sa rājā babhruvāhanaḥ. mātṛbhyāṃ sahito dhīmān kurūn abhyājagāma ha ॥14-89-25॥
[एतस्मिन्नेव (etasmin eva) - in this very (time or moment); काले (kāle) - at time; तु (tu) - but; स (sa) - he; राजा (rājā) - king; बभ्रुवाहनः (babhruvāhanaḥ) - Babhruvāhana (proper noun); मातृभ्यां (mātṛbhyām) - with both mothers; सहितः (sahitaḥ) - together; accompanied; धीमान् (dhīmān) - wise; कुरून् (kurūn) - the Kurus; अभ्याजगाम (abhyājagāma) - approached; came towards; ह (ha) - indeed;]
(In this very time but he king Babhruvāhana with both mothers together wise the Kurus approached indeed.)
But at that very time, the wise King Babhruvāhana, accompanied by both his mothers, came towards the Kurus. (14-89-25)
स समेत्य कुरून्सर्वान्सर्वैस्तैरभिनन्दितः। प्रविवेश पितामह्याः कुन्त्या भवनमुत्तमम् ॥१४-८९-२६॥
sa sametya kurūn sarvān sarvaiḥ taiḥ abhinanditaḥ। praviveśa pitāmahyāḥ kuntyāḥ bhavanam uttamam ॥14-89-26॥
[स (sa) - he; समेत्य (sametya) - having met; कुरून् (kurūn) - the Kurus; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; सर्वैः (sarvaiḥ) - by all; तैः (taiḥ) - by them; अभिनन्दितः (abhinanditaḥ) - being welcomed; प्रविवेश (praviveśa) - he entered; पितामह्याः (pitāmahyāḥ) - of the paternal grandmother; कुन्त्याः (kuntyāḥ) - of Kuntī; भवनम् (bhavanam) - house; उत्तमम् (uttamam) - excellent;]
(He, having met all the Kurus, being welcomed by all of them, entered the excellent house of his paternal grandmother Kuntī.)
Having met all the Kurus and being welcomed by all, he entered the excellent house of his grandmother Kuntī. (14-89-26)
