Mahabharata - Ashvamedhika Parva (महाभारत - अश्वमेधिकपर्वम्)
14.089
Yudhishthira said.
O Kṛṣṇa, this beloved thing which you are worthy to speak, having heard it, that which resembles the essence of nectar, delights my mind, O mighty one. (14-89-1)
O Hṛṣīkeśa, I have heard that indeed many battles for victory by kings were fought again and again here and there. (14-89-2)
Because of me, indeed, that always Pārtha (Arjuna), deprived of happiness, exceedingly victorious and wise as he is—thus my mind is pained. (14-89-3)
O Vārṣṇeya, I am always pondering in private about the son of Kuntī: Is there, in his body adorned with all auspicious marks, any inauspicious sign, Kṛṣṇa, by which he is experiencing miseries? (14-89-4)
He, the son of Kunti, is ever exceedingly afflicted with sorrow; and I do not see anything blameworthy in the body of Bībhatsu. If this is something I should hear, then please explain it to me. (14-89-5)
Thus, when addressed, Hṛṣīkeśa (Krishna), after reflecting upon the very great difference, spoke to the king, the glory of the Bhoja line, (he) Viṣṇu. (14-89-6)
O king, I observe nothing at all unfavorable in him, except for an excessive swelling on the shin of this lion among men. (14-89-7)
It is by these two that he, the tiger among men, is constantly engaged on journeys; for I see nothing else by which this victorious one partakes of suffering. (14-89-8)
Thus, when addressed by the wise Kṛṣṇa, the best of the Kurus said, "O tiger among the Vṛṣṇis, it is true; it is indeed so, O lord." (14-89-9)
But Draupadī, the dark one, looked sidelong at Kṛṣṇa with some jealousy. Kṛṣṇa, the slayer of Keśi, also accepted her affection. Hṛṣīkeśa, the friend of the friend, was just like Dhanañjaya himself. (14-89-10)
There, O lord, Bhima and others—the Kurus as well as the Yadavas—were delighted after hearing the many-varied tales of Arjuna. (14-89-11)
Thus, indeed, of those who recount stories of Arjuna, a mortal attains the methods and words of the great-souled Vijaya (Arjuna). (14-89-12)
He, approaching the best of the Kurus, bowed to him, and the intelligent one informed him that Arjuna, the tiger among men, had arrived. (14-89-13)
Hearing that, the king, his eyes brimming with joyful tears because of the delightful story, indeed gave much wealth at that time. (14-89-14)
Then on the second day, a great sound arose. The best among men, the champion of the Pāṇḍavas, is coming. (14-89-15)
Then, dust raised by his horse shone all around as Uccaiḥśravas moves. (14-89-16)
There, Arjuna heard the joyful voices of men saying, "By fortune you are well, O Pārtha, and King Yudhiṣṭhira is blessed." (14-89-17)
Who else besides Arjuna, having conquered the entire earth with its kings and caused the best horse to journey, would return? (14-89-18)
Of those great-souled kings of the past, like Sagara and others, we have not heard of any such action at all. (14-89-19)
None of the kings of the earth in the future will do this which you, best of the Kuru race, have done here, an act so difficult to accomplish. (14-89-20)
Hearing the pleasant words of those people, Phalguna—the righteous one—entered the sacrificial altar. (14-89-21)
Then, the king with his ministers and Kr̥ṣṇa, the Yadu's descendant, with Dhṛtarāṣṭra before them, went out to receive him. (14-89-22)
He respectfully saluted the feet of his wise father Dharmarāja, duly honored Bhīma and the others, and embraced Keśava. (14-89-23)
Having approached and been honored by them, he, in turn, duly honored them; then the righteous soul rested, like a man who, having crossed over, has reached the bank. (14-89-24)
But at that very time, the wise King Babhruvāhana, accompanied by both his mothers, came towards the Kurus. (14-89-25)
Having met all the Kurus and being welcomed by all, he entered the excellent house of his grandmother Kuntī. (14-89-26)
