bhīmāpanayaḥ
Terrible removal.
vaiśampāyana uvāca॥
Vaiśampāyana said;
yudhiṣṭhirasya nṛpater duryodhanapitus tathā। nāntaraṃ dadṛśū rājan puruṣāḥ praṇayaṃ prati ॥15-4-1॥
O king, men saw no distinction regarding affection between Yudhiṣṭhira, the king, and Duryodhana's father. (15-4-1)
yadā tu kauravo rājā putraṃ sasmāra bāliśam। tadā bhīmaṃ hṛdā rājannapadhyāti sa pārthivaḥ॥15-4-2॥
But whenever the Kaurava king remembered his childish son, then the king, O king, would dwell (in thought) on Bhima in his heart. (15-4-2)
tathaiva bhīmaseno'pi dhṛtarāṣṭraṃ janādhipam। nāmarṣayata rājendra sadaivātuṣṭavaddhṛdā ॥15-4-3॥
In the same way, Bhīmasena also never resented Dhṛtarāṣṭra, the lord of the people, O king, and always acted with a contented heart. (15-4-3)
aprakāśāny apriyāṇi cakārāsya vṛkodaraḥ। ājñāṁ pratyaharac cāpi kṛtakaiḥ puruṣaiḥ sadā॥15-4-4॥
Vṛkodara (Bhīma) secretly performed unpleasant acts for him; he also always revoked orders through hired men. (15-4-4)
atha bhīmaḥ suhṛn-madhye bāhu-śabdaṃ tathākarot। saṃśrave dhṛtarāṣṭrasya gāndhāryāś cāpy amārṣaṇaḥ॥15-4-5॥
Then Bhīma, in the midst of friends, made that arm sound; it was heard by Dhṛtarāṣṭra and also by the indignant Gāndhārī. (15-4-5)
smṛtvā duryodhanaṃ śatruṃ karṇaduḥśāsanāv api। provācātha susaṃrabdho bhīmaḥ sa paruṣaṃ vacaḥ ॥15-4-6॥
Remembering Duryodhana, the enemy, as well as Karṇa and Duḥśāsana, then the greatly enraged Bhīma spoke harsh words. (15-4-6)
andhasya nṛpateḥ putrā mayā parighabāhunā। nītā lokam amuṃ sarve nānāśastrāt tajīvitāḥ॥15-4-7॥
By me, armed with the iron mace, all the sons of the blind king, deprived of life by various weapons, were sent to that other world. (15-4-7)
imau tau parighaprakhyau bhujau mama durāsadau। yayorantaram āsādya dhārtarāṣṭrāḥ kṣayaṃ gatāḥ ॥15-4-8॥
These two arms of mine, like iron clubs and difficult to approach, are the very ones between which the sons of Dhritarashtra met their destruction. (15-4-8)
tāvimau candanenāktau vandanīyau ca me bhujau। yābhyāṁ duryodhano nītaḥ kṣayaṁ sasutabāndhavaḥ ॥15-4-9॥
These two, my arms, anointed with sandalwood and worthy of reverence, are the very ones by which Duryodhana, along with his sons and kinsmen, was brought to destruction. (15-4-9)
etāś ca anyāś ca vividhāḥ śalyabhūtā janādhipaḥ। vṛkodarasya tā vācaḥ śrutvā nirvedam āgamat॥15-4-10॥
Having heard both these and other various words of Vṛkodara, which had become like thorns, the king was overcome with despondency. (15-4-10)
sā ca buddhimatī devī kālaparyāyavedinī। gāndhārī sarvadharmajñā tānyalīkāni śuśruve ॥15-4-11॥
That wise lady, Gāndhārī, who knew the succession of times and was knower of all dharmas, heard those false things. (15-4-11)
tataḥ pañcadaśe varṣe samatīte narādhipaḥ। rājā nirvedam āpede bhīma-vāk-bāṇa-pīḍitaḥ ॥15-4-12॥
Then, after fifteen years had fully passed, the king, afflicted by the terrible arrow-like words, became filled with deep disgust. (15-4-12)
nānvabudhyata tadrājā kuntīputro yudhiṣṭhiraḥ। śvetāśvo vātha kuntī vā draupadī vā yaśasvinī ॥15-4-13॥
Neither the king, Yudhiṣṭhira, son of Kuntī, nor Śvetāśva, nor Kuntī, nor Draupadī, the illustrious one, understood that. (15-4-13)
mādrīputrau ca bhīmasya cittajñāvanvamōdatām। rājñastu cittaṃ rakṣantau nocatuḥ kiñcidapriyam ॥15-4-14॥
The sons of Mādrī, along with Bhīma, who understood the mind, rejoiced. But, protecting the king's feelings, they did not say anything unpleasant. (15-4-14)
tataḥ samānayāmāsa dhṛtarāṣṭraḥ suhṛjjanam। bāṣpasaṃdigdhamatyarthamidamāha vacho bhṛśam ॥15-4-15॥
Then Dhṛtarāṣṭra summoned his friends and attendants. Deeply choked with excessive tears, he spoke these words. (15-4-15)
