स त्वा कुरुकुलश्रेष्ठ किञ्चिदर्थमभीप्सति। श्राद्धमिच्छति दातुं स गाङ्गेयस्य महात्मनः ॥१५-१७-४॥

द्रोणस्य सोमदत्तस्य बाह्लीकस्य च धीमतः। पुत्राणां चैव सर्वेषां ये चास्य सुहृदो हताः ॥ यदि चाभ्यनुजानीषे सैन्धवापसदस्य च ॥१५-१७-५॥
droṇasya somadattasya bāhlīkasya ca dhīmataḥ। putrāṇāṃ caiva sarveṣāṃ ye cāsya suhṛdo hatāḥ॥ yadi cābhyanujānīṣe saindhavāpasadasya ca॥15-17-5॥

एतच्छ्रुत्वा तु वचनं विदुरस्य युधिष्ठिरः। हृष्टः सम्पूजयामास गुडाकेशश्च पाण्डवः ॥१५-१७-६॥
etac chrutvā tu vacanaṁ vidurasya yudhiṣṭhiraḥ। hṛṣṭaḥ sampūjayāmāsa guḍākeśaś ca pāṇḍavaḥ ॥15-17-6॥

Having heard these words of Vidura, Yudhishthira, gladdened, honored him, and so did Guḍākeśa, the Pāṇḍava. (15-17-6)
न तु भीमो दृढक्रोधस्तद्वचो जगृहे तदा। विदुरस्य महातेजा दुर्योधनकृतं स्मरन् ॥१५-१७-७॥
na tu bhīmo dṛḍhakrodhastadvaco jagṛhe tadā। vidurasya mahātejā duryodhanakṛtaṃ smaran ॥15-17-7॥

But Bhima, firm in anger, did not accept those words at that time, remembering the act done by Duryodhana towards the greatly energetic Vidura. (15-17-7)
अभिप्रायं विदित्वा तु भीमसेनस्य फल्गुनः। किरीटी किञ्चिदानम्य भीमं वचनमब्रवीत् ॥१५-१७-८॥
abhiprāyaṃ viditvā tu bhīmasenasya phalgunaḥ। kirīṭī kiñcidānamya bhīmaṃ vacanamabravīt ॥15-17-8॥

भीम राजा पिता वृद्धो वनवासाय दीक्षितः। दातुमिच्छति सर्वेषां सुहृदामौर्ध्वदेहिकम् ॥१५-१७-९॥
bhīma rājā pitā vṛddho vanavāsāya dīkṣitaḥ। dātum icchati sarveṣāṃ suhṛdām aurdhvadehikam ॥15-17-9॥
[भीम (bhīma) - fearsome; terrible; राजा (rājā) - king; पिता (pitā) - father; वृद्धः (vṛddhaḥ) - aged; old; वनवासाय (vanavāsāya) - for dwelling in the forest; दीक्षितः (dīkṣitaḥ) - consecrated; initiated; दातुम् (dātum) - to give; इच्छति (icchati) - desires; wishes; सर्वेषाम् (sarveṣām) - of all; सुहृदाम् (suhṛdām) - of friends; और्ध्वदेहिकम् (aurdhvadehikam) - post-funeral rite;]
(Fearsome king, father, aged, for dwelling in the forest, consecrated, desires to give to all friends the post-funeral rite.)
The formidable king, the aged father, having undertaken initiation for dwelling in the forest, wishes to bestow the post-funeral offerings for all his friends. (15-17-9)
भवता निर्जितं वित्तं दातुमिच्छति कौरवः। भीष्मादीनां महाबाहो तदनुज्ञातुमर्हसि ॥१५-१७-१०॥
bhavatā nirjitaṃ vittaṃ dātum icchati kauravaḥ। bhīṣmādīnāṃ mahābāho tad anujñātum arhasi ॥15-17-10॥
[भवता (bhavatā) - by you; निर्जितं (nirjitam) - won; वित्तं (vittam) - wealth; दातुम् (dātum) - to give; इच्छति (icchati) - desires; कौरवः (kauravaḥ) - the Kaurava; भीष्मादीनाम् (bhīṣmādīnām) - of Bhishma and others; महाबाहो (mahābāho) - O mighty-armed; तत् (tad) - that; अनुज्ञातुम् (anujñātum) - to permit; अर्हसि (arhasi) - you should;]
(By you won wealth to give desires the Kaurava. Of Bhishma and others, O mighty-armed, that to permit you should. (15-17-10))
The Kaurava desires to give the wealth won by you. O mighty-armed, you should permit that on behalf of Bhishma and the others. (15-17-10)
दिष्ट्या त्वद्य महाबाहो धृतराष्ट्रः प्रयाचति। याचितो यः पुरास्माभिः पश्य कालस्य पर्ययम् ॥१५-१७-११॥
diṣṭyā tvadya mahābāho dhṛtarāṣṭraḥ prayācati। yācito yaḥ purāsmābhiḥ paśya kālasya paryayam ॥15-17-11॥

(By fortune today, O mighty-armed one, Dhṛtarāṣṭra asks (requests); he who was formerly asked by us; see the turn of time.)
By good fortune today, O mighty-armed one, Dhṛtarāṣṭra is asking (for something); he who was previously implored by us—see the change that time brings. (15-17-11)
योऽसौ पृथिव्याः कृत्स्नाया भर्ता भूत्वा नराधिपः। परैर्विनिहतापत्यो वनं गन्तुमभीप्सति ॥१५-१७-१२॥
yo'sau pṛthivyāḥ kṛtsnāyā bhartā bhūtvā narādhipaḥ। parair vinihatāpatyo vanaṃ gantum abhīpsati ॥15-17-12॥
[यः (yaḥ) - who; असौ (asau) - that; पृथिव्याः (pṛthivyāḥ) - of the earth; कृत्स्नायाः (kṛtsnāyāḥ) - entire; भर्ता (bhartā) - protector; भूत्वा (bhūtvā) - having become; नराधिपः (narādhipaḥ) - king; परैः (paraiḥ) - by others; विनिहतापत्यः (vinihatāpatyaḥ) - with offspring destroyed; वनम् (vanam) - to the forest; गन्तुम् (gantum) - to go; अभीप्सति (abhīpsati) - desires;]
(Who that protector of the entire earth, having become a king, with his offspring destroyed by others, desires to go to the forest.)
That king, who was the protector of the whole earth, his sons slain by others, now desires to go to the forest. (15-17-12)
मा तेऽन्यत्पुरुषव्याघ्र दानाद्भवतु दर्शनम्। अयशस्यमतोऽन्यत्स्यादधर्म्यं च महाभुज ॥१५-१७-१३॥
mā te'anyatpuruṣavyāghra dānādbhavatu darśanam। ayaśasyamato'nyatsyādadharmyaṃ ca mahābhuja ॥15-17-13॥
[मा (mā) - do not; ते (te) - for you; अन्यत् (anyat) - other; पुरुषव्याघ्र (puruṣavyāghra) - tiger among men; दानात् (dānāt) - from giving; भवतु (bhavatu) - let it be; दर्शनम् (darśanam) - sight; अयशस्य (ayaśasya) - of disgrace; अतः (ataḥ) - from this; अन्यत् (anyat) - other; स्यात् (syāt) - may be; अधर्म्यम् (adharmyam) - unrighteous; च (ca) - and; महाभुज (mahābhuja) - O mighty-armed;]
(Do not for you, O tiger among men, let there be any sight other than giving; from this, otherwise, may there be disgrace and what is unrighteous, and O mighty-armed.)
O tiger among men, let there not be for you any sight except giving; otherwise, there may arise disgrace and unrighteousness, O mighty-armed. (15-17-13)
राजानमुपतिष्ठस्व ज्येष्ठं भ्रातरमीश्वरम्। अर्हस्त्वमसि दातुं वै नादातुं भरतर्षभ ॥ एवं ब्रुवाणं कौन्तेयं धर्मराजोऽभ्यपूजयत् ॥१५-१७-१४॥
rājānam upatiṣṭhasva jyeṣṭhaṃ bhrātaram īśvaram। arhastvam asi dātuṃ vai nādātuṃ bharatarṣabha॥ evaṃ bruvāṇaṃ kaunteyaṃ dharmarājo'bhyapūjayat॥15-17-14॥

(Approach the king, the eldest brother and lord; you are indeed worthy to give, not to refuse, bull among the Bharatas. Thus speaking to Kaunteya, the Dharma-king honored (him). (15-17-14))
“Approach the king, your eldest brother and master; you are indeed worthy to bestow, not to refuse, O bull among the Bharatas.” Thus, as he was saying this to Kaunteya, the righteous king honored him. (15-17-14)
भीमसेनस्तु सक्रोधः प्रोवाचेदं वचस्तदा। वयं भीष्मस्य कुर्मेह प्रेतकार्याणि फल्गुन ॥१५-१७-१५॥
bhīmasenastu sakrodhaḥ provācedaṁ vacastadā। vayaṁ bhīṣmasya kurmeha pretakāryāṇi phalguna ॥15-17-15॥

अन्येषां चैव सुहृदां कुन्ती कर्णाय दास्यति। श्राद्धानि पुरुषव्याघ्र मादात्कौरवको नृपः ॥१५-१७-१७॥
anyeṣāṃ caiva suhṛdāṃ kuntī karṇāya dāsyati। śrāddhāni puruṣavyāghra mādātkauravako nṛpaḥ ॥15-17-17॥

(Of the others and indeed of friends, Kuntī for Karṇa will give śrāddha offerings; O tiger among men, from me the Kaurava king will take (them). (15-17-17))
Kuntī will perform the śrāddha ceremonies for Karṇa as well as for the other friends, and the Kaurava king will take the offerings from me, O tiger among men. (15-17-17)
इति मे वर्तते बुद्धिर्मा वो नन्दन्तु शत्रवः। कष्टात्कष्टतरं यान्तु सर्वे दुर्योधनादयः ॥ यैरियं पृथिवी सर्वा घातिता कुलपांसनैः ॥१५-१७-१८॥
iti me vartate buddhiḥ mā vo nandantu śatravaḥ। kaṣṭāt kaṣṭataraṃ yāntu sarve duryodhanādayaḥ॥ yair iyaṃ pṛthivī sarvā ghātitā kulapāṃsanaiḥ॥15-17-18॥

(Thus my thought arises: may your enemies not rejoice. From hardship to greater hardship may all, Duryodhana and the others, go—by whom this entire earth was destroyed, by the disgraces of the family.)
Thus is my thought: let not your enemies rejoice. May Duryodhana and all his party, who destroyed this entire earth like disgraces of their family, go from hardship to even greater hardship. (15-17-18)
कुतस्त्वमद्य विस्मृत्य वैरं द्वादशवार्षिकम्। अज्ञातवासगमनं द्रौपदीशोकवर्धनम् ॥ क्व तदा धृतराष्ट्रस्य स्नेहोऽस्मास्वभवत्तदा ॥१५-१७-१९॥
kutastvamadya vismṛtya vairaṃ dvādaśavārṣikam। ajñātavāsa-gamanaṃ draupadī-śoka-vardhanam ॥ kva tadā dhṛtarāṣṭrasya sneho'smāsvabhavattadā ॥15-17-19॥
