O best of the Bharatas, are your enemies, elders, citizens, servants, or even your own people wholly satisfied with your character? (15-33-5)
O king, do you faithfully perform sacrifices for ancestors and gods? And, O Bharata, do you honor guests with food and drink? (15-33-6)

Are the Brāhmaṇas in your domain indeed devoted to their own duties? And are the Kṣatriyas, the groups of Vaiśyas, and the Śūdras also householders?

O great king, does this lineage of royal sages, having gained you as the lord of the earth, not decline in fame as is appropriate? (15-33-9)
Vaiśampāyana said;
Thus, as he was speaking in this manner, the one skilled in justice replied to him—skilled in enquiry and adept in speech. (15-33-10)
"O King, I hope the austerity for you, performed with mild exertion, is increasing. Also, I hope my mother here, attentive and free from fatigue, finds fruitful her stay in the forest, O King." (15-33-11)
And this eldest mother of mine, worn out by the wind and the hardships of travel, engaged in severe austerity—does the lady not grieve? (15-33-12)
Is the evil-doer always plotting against us whose sons of great valor, devoted to kṣatriya duty, have been slain? (15-33-13)
O King, where is this Vidura? We do not see him. Is Sañjaya well, and is he surely engaged in austerity? (15-33-14)
Having thus been addressed, Dhritarashtra replied to the lord of the people: "Vidura's son is well and has undertaken severe austerity." (15-33-15)
A person who subsists on air alone, without food, emaciated and covered with veins, is sometimes seen by brahmins somewhere in this empty forest. (15-33-16)
Thus, while he was speaking in this manner, the matted-haired ascetic, with a mouth stained by betel, thin, unclothed (clad in the directions), his body smeared with filth and covered in forest dust, (was seen). (15-33-17)
When seen from a distance, the charioteer there informed the king; turning back suddenly after seeing people heading towards the hermitage. (15-33-18)
Yudhiṣṭhira, the king, alone indeed, followed him as he was entering the terrible forest, sometimes visible and sometimes invisible, here and there. (15-33-19)
Calling out “O! O! Vidura, I am the king, your beloved, Yudhishthira”—speaking thus, the king hurriedly approached him with effort. (15-33-20)
Then Vidura, the best among the wise, stood alone in a secluded forest, taking shelter under a certain tree. (15-33-21)
The king, greatly diminished and recognizable only by his appearance, was recognized as the great-minded one; the great-minded Yudhiṣṭhira. (15-33-22)
Having said, "I am Yudhiṣṭhira," he stood at the front. The king, in Vidura’s hearing, replied with a gesture. (15-33-23)
Then, becoming unblinking, he looked intently at the king; Vidura, after fixing his gaze upon him, attentively watched with focused eyes. (15-33-24)
The wise Vidura entered, having joined each limb to its limbed counterpart, the life-breaths into the life-breaths, and the senses into the senses. (15-33-25)
Vidura, empowered by the strength of yoga, entered the king's body; he appeared to be shining with the splendor of Dharmarāja, as if ablaze. (15-33-26)
The king then saw the body of Vidura, with fixed eyes, resting by a tree, with life departed. (15-33-27)
Then Dharmarāja, the greatly powerful Pāṇḍava, considered himself to be strong and possessing many qualities, and remembered that. (15-33-28)
O lord of men, he who possessed all ancient knowledge of self, of great splendor, described the duty of yoga as it was spoken by Vyāsa. (15-33-29)
But King Dharma-rāja, wishing to perform the funeral rites for him there, then became desirous to burn (the body); then indeed, speech (a voice) spoke. (15-33-30)
O King, O King! This body here called Vidura must be burned; this is your duty, this is the eternal law. (15-33-31)
O king, descendants bearing his name will arise in the worlds. Since he has attained the path of ascetics, he is indeed not to be mourned, O scorcher of foes. (15-33-32)
Thus addressed, Dharmarāja (Yudhiṣṭhira) returned again from there and reported all that to the king, the descendant of Vicitravīrya. (15-33-33)
Then the radiant king, all the people, and Bhīmasena and the rest were greatly astonished. (15-33-34)
Having heard that, the king, filled with joy, addressed the dharma-born one: "Please accept this water, root, and fruit of mine." (15-33-35)
O king, whatever food a man has, that food is considered as for his guest. Thus addressed, the son of Dharma said "so be it" to the king, and together with his younger brother, ate the fruit and roots given by the king. (15-33-36)
Then they all, having arranged their resting place at the roots of trees and living on fruits, roots, and water, spent that night. (15-33-37)
