भद्रे द्रक्ष्यसि गान्धारि पुत्रान्भ्रातॄन्सखींस्तथा। वधूश्च पतिभिः सार्धं निशि सुप्तोत्थिता इव ॥१५-३९-१॥
bhadre drakṣyasi gāndhāri putrān bhrātṝn sakhīṃs tathā | vadhūś ca patibhiḥ sārdhaṃ niśi suptotthitā iva ॥15-39-1॥
[भद्रे (bhadre) - O kindly lady; द्रक्ष्यसि (drakṣyasi) - you will see; गान्धारि (gāndhāri) - O Gāndhāri; पुत्रान् (putrān) - sons; भ्रातॄन् (bhrātṝn) - brothers; सखीन् तथा (sakhīṃs tathā) - friends likewise; वधूः च (vadhūś ca) - the brides also; पतिभिः सार्धं (patibhiḥ sārdham) - together with their husbands; निशि (niśi) - at night; सुप्तोत्थिता इव (suptotthitā iva) - as if risen from sleep;]
(O kindly lady, you will see, O Gāndhāri, sons, brothers, friends likewise, and the brides also together with their husbands, at night, as if risen from sleep.)
O gentle lady, O Gāndhāri, you will see your sons, brothers, friends, and the brides with their husbands, as if they have arisen from sleep in the night. (15-39-1)
कर्णं द्रक्ष्यति कुन्ती च सौभद्रं चापि यादवी। द्रौपदी पञ्च पुत्रांश्च पितॄन्भ्रातॄंस्तथैव च ॥१५-३९-२॥
karṇaṃ drakṣyati kuntī ca saubhadraṃ cāpi yādavī। draupadī pañca putrāṃś ca pitṝn bhrātṝṃs tathaiva ca॥15-39-2॥
[कर्णं (karṇaṃ) - Karṇa; द्रक्ष्यति (drakṣyati) - will see; कुन्ती (kuntī) - Kuntī; च (ca) - and; सौभद्रं (saubhadraṃ) - Abhimanyu; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; यादवी (yādavī) - Yādavī (Subhadrā); द्रौपदी (draupadī) - Draupadī; पञ्च (pañca) - five; पुत्रान् (putrān) - sons; च (ca) - and; पितॄन् (pitṝn) - fathers; भ्रातॄन् (bhrātṝn) - brothers; तथैव (tathaiva) - just so; च (ca) - and;]

Kuntī will see Karṇa, and Yādavī also will see Abhimanyu; Draupadī will likewise see her five sons, fathers, and brothers. (15-39-2)
पूर्वमेवैष हृदये व्यवसायोऽभवन्मम। यथास्मि चोदितो राज्ञा भवत्या पृथयैव च ॥१५-३९-३॥
pūrvamevaiṣa hṛdaye vyavāsāyo'bhavanmama। yathāsmi codito rājñā bhavatyā pṛthayeva ca ॥15-39-3॥

Earlier, this resolve had arisen in my heart; as I am prompted by the king, by you, and by Pṛthā indeed. (15-39-3)
न ते शोच्या महात्मानः सर्व एव नरर्षभाः। क्षत्रधर्मपराः सन्तस्तथा हि निधनं गताः ॥१५-३९-४॥
na te śocyā mahātmānaḥ sarva eva nararṣabhāḥ। kṣatradharmaparāḥ santas tathā hi nidhanaṃ gatāḥ ॥15-39-4॥
[न (na) - not; ते (te) - they; शोच्या (śocyā) - to be grieved for; महात्मानः (mahātmānaḥ) - great-souled ones; सर्व (sarva) - all; एव (eva) - indeed; नरर्षभाः (nararṣabhāḥ) - the best of men; क्षत्रधर्मपराः (kṣatradharmaparāḥ) - devoted to kṣatriya-dharma; सन्तः (santaḥ) - being; तथा (tathā) - thus; हि (hi) - indeed; निधानं (nidhanaṃ) - death; गताः (gatāḥ) - have reached;]
(Not they to be grieved for, great-souled ones, all indeed, the best of men; devoted to kṣatriya-dharma, being thus indeed, death have reached.)
Those great-souled ones, the best among men, all indeed devoted to the kṣatriya-dharma, are not to be lamented, for they have thus attained death. (15-39-4)
भवितव्यमवश्यं तत्सुरकार्यमनिन्दिते। अवतेरुस्ततः सर्वे देवभागैर्महीतलम् ॥१५-३९-५॥
bhavitavyam avaśyaṃ tat surakāryam anindite। avaterus tataḥ sarve devabhāgair mahītalam ॥15-39-5॥
[भवितव्यम् (bhavitavyam) - that which must come to pass; अवश्यं (avaśyam) - certainly; तत् (tat) - that; सुरकार्यम् (surakāryam) - deed of the gods; अनिन्दिते (anindite) - O blameless one; अवतेरुः (avateruḥ) - they descended; ततः (tataḥ) - from there; सर्वे (sarve) - all; देवभागैः (devabhāgaiḥ) - with portions of the gods; महीतलम् (mahītalam) - the surface of the earth;]
(That which must come to pass, certainly, that deed of the gods, O blameless one; from there all, with portions of the gods, descended (to) the surface of the earth.)
O blameless one, that deed of the gods which was destined to happen—certainly, all (beings), endowed with portions of the gods, then descended to the surface of the earth. (15-39-5)
गन्धर्वाप्सरसश्चैव पिशाचा गुह्यराक्षसाः। तथा पुण्यजनाश्चैव सिद्धा देवर्षयोऽपि च ॥१५-३९-६॥
gandharvāpsarasaś caiva piśācā guhya-rākṣasāḥ। tathā puṇya-janāś caiva siddhā devarṣayo'pi ca॥15-39-6॥

(Gandharvas and Apsarases and indeed Piśācas, secret Rākṣasas, likewise meritorious beings and indeed perfected ones, divine rishis also and.)
Gandharvas, Apsarases, Piśācas, secret Rākṣasas, meritorious beings, Siddhas, and divine rishis were also there. (15-39-6)
देवाश्च दानवाश्चैव तथा ब्रह्मर्षयोऽमलाः। त एते निधनं प्राप्ताः कुरुक्षेत्रे रणाजिरे ॥१५-३९-७॥
devāś ca dānavāś caiva tathā brahmarṣayo'malāḥ. ta ete nidhanaṃ prāptāḥ kurukṣetre raṇājire ॥15-39-7॥
[देवाः (devāḥ) - gods; च (ca) - and; दानवाः (dānavāḥ) - demons; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; तथा (tathā) - also; ब्रह्मर्षयः (brahmarṣayaḥ) - brahma sages; अमलाः (amalāḥ) - pure; ते (te) - they; एते (ete) - these; निधनम् (nidhanaṃ) - death; प्राप्ताः (prāptāḥ) - attained; कुरुक्षेत्रे (kurukṣetre) - in Kurukṣetra; रणाजिरे (raṇājire) - battlefield;]
(Gods and demons indeed also pure brahma-sages— these they attained death in Kurukṣetra battlefield.)
Gods, demons, and also the pure brahma-sages— all these attained their end on the battlefield of Kurukṣetra. (15-39-7)
गन्धर्वराजो यो धीमान्धृतराष्ट्र इति श्रुतः। स एव मानुषे लोके धृतराष्ट्रः पतिस्तव ॥१५-३९-८॥
gandharvarājo yo dhīmāndhṛtarāṣṭra iti śrutaḥ. sa eva mānuṣe loke dhṛtarāṣṭraḥ patistava ॥15-39-8॥
[गन्धर्वराजः (gandharvarājaḥ) - king of the Gandharvas; यः (yaḥ) - who; धীমान् (dhīmān) - wise; धृतराष्ट्र (dhṛtarāṣṭra) - Dhritarashtra; इति (iti) - thus; श्रुतः (śrutaḥ) - heard; सः (saḥ) - he; एव (eva) - indeed; मानुषे (mānuṣe) - among men; लोके (loke) - in the world; धृतराष्ट्रः (dhṛtarāṣṭraḥ) - Dhritarashtra; पतिः (patiḥ) - husband; तव (tava) - your;]
(The king of the Gandharvas who wise Dhritarashtra thus (is) heard; he indeed among men in the world (is) Dhritarashtra, your husband.)
He who is known as the wise king of the Gandharvas, Dhritarashtra by name, is indeed, in the world of men, your husband Dhritarashtra. (15-39-8)
पाण्डुं मरुद्गणं विद्धि विशिष्टतममच्युतम्। धर्मस्यांशोऽभवत्क्षत्ता राजा चायं युधिष्ठिरः ॥१५-३९-९॥
pāṇḍuṃ marudgaṇaṃ viddhi viśiṣṭatamamacyutam। dharmasyāṃśo'bhavatkṣattā rājā cāyaṃ yudhiṣṭhiraḥ ॥15-39-9॥

(Pāṇḍu host of Maruts know most excellent Acyuta. Of Dharma portion became charioteer king and this Yudhiṣṭhira.)
Know that Pāṇḍu was the most excellent among the Marut hosts, and that Acyuta is a portion of Dharma who became the royal advisor and king—this is Yudhiṣṭhira. (15-39-9)
कलिं दुर्योधनं विद्धि शकुनिं द्वापरं तथा। दुःशासनादीन्विद्धि त्वं राक्षसाञ्शुभदर्शने ॥१५-३९-१०॥
kaliṃ duryodhanaṃ viddhi śakuniṃ dvāparaṃ tathā। duḥśāsanādīn viddhi tvaṃ rākṣasāñ śubhadarśane ॥15-39-10॥
[कलिं (kaliṃ) - Kali (the spirit of the age of strife); दुर्योधनं (duryodhanaṃ) - Duryodhana; विद्धि (viddhi) - know; शकुनिं (śakuniṃ) - Śakuni; द्वापरं (dvāparaṃ) - Dvāpara (the spirit of the Dvāpara age); तथा (tathā) - so; दुःशासनादीन् (duḥśāsanādīn) - Duḥśāsana and others; विद्धि (viddhi) - know; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; राक्षसान् (rākṣasān) - rākṣasas (demons); शुभदर्शने (śubhadarśane) - O auspicious-looking one;]
(Know Kali as Duryodhana, know Śakuni as Dvāpara so; know Duḥśāsana and others as rākṣasas, O auspicious-looking one.)
Know Duryodhana as Kali, Śakuni as the spirit of Dvāpara, and know Duḥśāsana and the others as rākṣasas (demons), O beautiful one. (15-39-10)
मरुद्गणाद्भीमसेनं बलवन्तमरिंदमम्। विद्धि च त्वं नरमृषिमिमं पार्थं धनञ्जयम् ॥ नारायणं हृषीकेशमश्विनौ यमजावुभौ ॥१५-३९-११॥
marud-gaṇād bhīmasenaṁ balavantam ariṁ-damam। viddhi ca tvaṁ nara-mṛṣim imaṁ pārthaṁ dhanañjayam॥ nārāyaṇaṁ hṛṣīkeśam aśvinau yamajau ubhau॥15-39-11॥

Bhīmasena, the powerful subduer of enemies, arose from the host of the Maruts; know that this son of Pṛthā, Dhanañjaya, is the sage among men. Nārāyaṇa is Hṛṣīkeśa, and the two Aśvins are both sons of Yama. (15-39-11)
द्विधा कृत्वात्मनो देहमादित्यं तपतां वरम्। लोकांश्च तापयानं वै विद्धि कर्णं च शोभने ॥ यश्च वैरार्थमुद्भूतः सङ्घर्षजननस्तथा ॥१५-३९-१२॥
dvidhā kṛtvātmano deham ādityaṁ tapatāṁ varam। lokāṁś ca tāpayānaṁ vai viddhi karṇaṁ ca śobhane॥ yaś ca vairārtham udbhūtaḥ saṅgharṣajananas tathā॥15-39-12॥
[द्विधा (dvidhā) - in two parts; कृत्वा (kṛtvā) - having made; आत्मनः (ātmanaḥ) - of himself; देहम् (deham) - body; आदित्यम् (ādityam) - the Sun; तपताम् (tapatām) - of those who heat (shine, burn); वरम् (varam) - best; लोकान् (lokān) - worlds; च (ca) - and; तापयानम् (tāpayānam) - causing to heat; वै (vai) - indeed; विद्धि (viddhi) - know; कर्णम् (karṇam) - Karṇa (proper noun); च (ca) - and; शोभने (śobhane) - O beautiful lady; यः (yaḥ) - who; च (ca) - and; वैरार्थम् (vairārtham) - for the purpose of enmity; उद्भूतः (udbhūtaḥ) - arisen; सङ्घर्षजननः (saṅgharṣajananaḥ) - producer of conflict; तथा (tathā) - also;]
(Having made his own body in two, the Sun, best of those who burn, and also Karṇa who indeed causes worlds to be heated, know, O beautiful lady. And who also for the purpose of enmity has arisen and is also producer of conflict.)
Having split his own body in two, the Sun—the best among those who burn—and Karṇa, who truly causes the worlds to be heated, know this, O beautiful one. He who also arose for the sake of enmity and is a source of conflict. (15-39-12)
यश्च पाण्डवदायादो हतः षड्भिर्महारथैः। स सोम इह सौभद्रो योगादेवाभवद्द्विधा ॥१५-३९-१३॥
yaś ca pāṇḍavadāyādo hataḥ ṣaḍbhir mahārathaiḥ। sa soma iha saubhadro yogād evābhavad dviḍhā ॥15-39-13॥
[यः (yaḥ) - who; च (ca) - and; पाण्डवदायादः (pāṇḍavadāyādaḥ) - the heir of the Pāṇḍavas; हतः (hataḥ) - slain; षड्भिः (ṣaḍbhiḥ) - by six; महारथैः (mahārathaiḥ) - great chariot-warriors; सः (saḥ) - he; सोमः (somaḥ) - Soma; इह (iha) - here; सौभद्रः (saubhadraḥ) - the son of Subhadrā (Abhimanyu); योगात् (yogāt) - by (mystic) union; एव (eva) - indeed; अभवत् (abhavat) - became; द्विधा (dviḍhā) - twofold;]
(Who and the heir of the Pāṇḍavas slain by six great chariot-warriors, he, Soma, here, the son of Subhadrā, by union indeed became twofold.)
He who was the heir of the Pāṇḍavas slain by six great chariot-warriors—that Soma here, the son of Subhadrā, through union indeed became twofold. (15-39-13)
द्रौपद्या सह सम्भूतं धृष्टद्युम्नं च पावकात्। अग्नेर्भागं शुभं विद्धि राक्षसं तु शिखण्डिनम् ॥१५-३९-१४॥
draupadyā saha sambhūtaṃ dhṛṣṭadyumnaṃ ca pāvakāt। agner bhāgaṃ śubhaṃ viddhi rākṣasaṃ tu śikhaṇḍinam ॥15-39-14॥

(From Draupadī together with (was) born Dhṛṣṭadyumna and from fire. Of Agni's portion auspicious know; demon but Śikhaṇḍin.)
Know that Dhṛṣṭadyumna, born with Draupadī from the fire, is the auspicious portion of Agni; but Śikhaṇḍin is a demon. (15-39-14)
द्रोणं बृहस्पतेर्भागं विद्धि द्रौणिं च रुद्रजम्। भीष्मं च विद्धि गाङ्गेयं वसुं मानुषतां गतम् ॥१५-३९-१५॥
droṇaṃ bṛhaspater bhāgaṃ viddhi drauṇiṃ ca rudrajam। bhīṣmaṃ ca viddhi gāṅgeyaṃ vasuṃ mānuṣatāṃ gatam॥15-39-15॥
[द्रोणम् (droṇam) - Droṇa; बृहस्पतेः (bṛhaspateḥ) - of Bṛhaspati; भागम् (bhāgam) - portion; विद्धि (viddhi) - know; द्रौणिम् (drauṇim) - Drauṇi; च (ca) - and; रुद्रजम् (rudrajam) - born of Rudra; भीष्मम् (bhīṣmam) - Bhīṣma; च (ca) - and; विद्धि (viddhi) - know; गाङ्गेयम् (gāṅgeyam) - son of Gaṅgā; वसुं (vasum) - Vasu; मानुषताम् (mānuṣatām) - human state; गतम् (gatam) - gone (who has attained);]
(Know Droṇa as a portion of Bṛhaspati; and Drauṇi as born of Rudra; and know Bhīṣma, son of Gaṅgā, as Vasu who has attained a human state (gone to humanity).)
Know Droṇa to be a portion of Bṛhaspati, Drauṇi to be born of Rudra, and Bhīṣma, son of Gaṅgā, to be the Vasu who has come into a human form. (15-39-15)
एवमेते महाप्राज्ञे देवा मानुष्यमेत्य हि। ततः पुनर्गताः स्वर्गं कृते कर्मणि शोभने ॥१५-३९-१६॥
evam ete mahāprājñe devā mānuṣyam etya hi। tataḥ punar gatāḥ svargaṃ kṛte karmaṇi śobhane ॥15-39-16॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; एते (ete) - these; महाप्राज्ञे (mahāprājñe) - O highly intelligent one; देवाः (devāḥ) - the gods; मानुष्यम् (mānuṣyam) - human condition; एत्य (etya) - having attained; हि (hi) - indeed; ततः (tataḥ) - then; पुनः (punar) - again; गताः (gatāḥ) - went; स्वर्गम् (svargam) - to heaven; कृते (kṛte) - having performed; कर्मणि (karmaṇi) - in deed; शोभने (śobhane) - auspicious; ॥१५-३९-१६॥ (15-39-16) - ;]
(Thus these, O highly intelligent one, gods having attained human condition indeed, then again, went to heaven, having performed auspicious deed.)
Thus, O highly intelligent one, these gods, having assumed a human condition, indeed returned to heaven after performing auspicious deeds. (15-39-16)
यच्च वो हृदि सर्वेषां दुःखमेनच्चिरं स्थितम्। तदद्य व्यपनेष्यामि परलोककृताद्भयात् ॥१५-३९-१७॥
yac ca vo hṛdi sarveṣāṃ duḥkham ena c ciraṃ sthitam। tad adya vyapaneṣyāmi paraloka-kṛtād bhayāt ॥15-39-17॥
[यत् (yat) - which; च (ca) - and; वः (vaḥ) - your; हृदि (hṛdi) - in (the) heart; सर्वेषाम् (sarveṣām) - of all; दुःखम् (duḥkham) - sorrow; एनत् (enat) - this; चिरम् (ciram) - long; स्थितम् (sthitam) - remained; तत् (tat) - that; अद्य (adya) - today; व्यपनेष्यामि (vyapaneṣyāmi) - I will dispel; परलोककृतात् (paraloka-kṛtāt) - caused by the next world; भयात् (bhayāt) - from fear;]
(Which and your in (the) heart of all sorrow this long remained, that today I will dispel from fear caused by the next world.)
That sorrow, which has long remained in the hearts of you all, I will remove today out of fear caused by the next world. (15-39-17)
सर्वे भवन्तो गच्छन्तु नदीं भागीरथीं प्रति। तत्र द्रक्ष्यथ तान्सर्वान्ये हतास्मिन्रणाजिरे ॥१५-३९-१८॥
sarve bhavanto gacchantu nadīṃ bhāgīrathīṃ prati. tatra drakṣyatha tān sarvān ye hatā asmin raṇājire ॥15-39-18॥

(All you let go to the river Bhagirathi. There you will see all those who are slain in this battlefield.)
All of you go to the river Bhagirathi; there you will see all those who have been slain in this battlefield. (15-39-18)

इति व्यासस्य वचनं श्रुत्वा सर्वो जनस्तदा। महता सिंहनादेन गङ्गामभिमुखो ययौ ॥१५-३९-१९॥
iti vyāsasya vacanaṃ śrutvā sarvo janastadā। mahatā siṃhanādena gaṅgām abhimukho yayau ॥15-39-19॥
[इति (iti) - thus; व्यासस्य (vyāsasya) - of Vyāsa; वचनं (vacanam) - speech; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; सर्वः (sarvaḥ) - all; जनः (janaḥ) - people; तदा (tadā) - then; महतान (mahatā) - with great; सिंहनादेन (siṃhanādena) - with lion’s roar; गङ्गाम् (gaṅgām) - to Gaṅgā; अभिमुखः (abhimukhaḥ) - facing toward; ययौ (yayau) - went;]
(Thus, Vyāsa’s speech having heard, all people then with great lion’s roar to Gaṅgā facing toward went.)
Thus, having heard Vyāsa’s words, then all the people, with a great lion’s roar, proceeded facing towards the Gaṅgā. (15-39-19)
धृतराष्ट्रश्च सामात्यः प्रययौ सह पाण्डवैः। सहितो मुनिशार्दूलैर्गन्धर्वैश्च समागतैः ॥१५-३९-२०॥
dhṛtarāṣṭraś ca sāmātyaḥ prayayau saha pāṇḍavaiḥ। sahito muniśārdūlair gandharvaiś ca samāgataiḥ ॥15-39-20॥
[धृतराष्ट्रः (dhṛtarāṣṭraḥ) - Dhṛtarāṣṭra; (name of a king); च (ca) - and; सामात्यः (sāmātyaḥ) - with ministers; प्रययौ (prayayau) - departed; सह (saha) - with; पाण्डवैः (pāṇḍavaiḥ) - with the Pāṇḍavas; सहितः (sahitaḥ) - joined, accompanied; मुनि-शार्दूलैः (muni-śārdūlaiḥ) - with tiger among sages (eminent sages); गन्धर्वैः (gandharvaiḥ) - with Gandharvas; च (ca) - and; समागतैः (samāgataiḥ) - who had assembled;]
(Dhṛtarāṣṭra and (his) ministers departed with the Pāṇḍavas, accompanied by eminent sages, and Gandharvas who had assembled.)
Dhṛtarāṣṭra, together with his ministers, set out along with the Pāṇḍavas, joined by eminent sages and the assembled Gandharvas. (15-39-20)
ततो गङ्गां समासाद्य क्रमेण स जनार्णवः। निवासमकरोत्सर्वो यथाप्रीति यथासुखम् ॥१५-३९-२१॥
tato gaṅgāṃ samāsādya krameṇa sa janārṇavaḥ। nivāsamakarotsarvo yathāprīti yathāsukham ॥15-39-21॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; गङ्गाम् (gaṅgām) - Gaṅgā (river); समासाद्य (samāsādya) - having approached; क्रमेण (krameṇa) - in order; gradually; सः (saḥ) - he; जनार्णवः (janārṇavaḥ) - multitude of people; निवासम् (nivāsam) - dwelling; residence; अकरोत् (akarot) - he (they) made; सर्वः (sarvaḥ) - all; everyone; यथा-प्रियि (yathā-prīti) - according to pleasure; यथा-सुखम् (yathā-sukham) - according to comfort;]
(Then, having approached the Gaṅgā, gradually, he, the multitude of people, made the dwelling, all, according to pleasure, according to comfort.)
Then, having gradually reached the Gaṅgā, all the people made their dwellings as they pleased and as was comfortable. (15-39-21)
राजा च पाण्डवैः सार्धमिष्टे देशे सहानुगः। निवासमकरोद्धीमान्सस्त्रीवृद्धपुरःसरः ॥१५-३९-२२॥
rājā ca pāṇḍavaiḥ sārdham iṣṭe deśe sahānugaḥ। nivāsam akarod dhīmān sa-strī-vṛddha-puraḥsaraḥ॥15-39-22॥
[राजा (rājā) - king; च (ca) - and; पाण्डवैः (pāṇḍavaiḥ) - with the Pāṇḍavas; सार्धम् (sārdham) - together with; इष्टे (iṣṭe) - chosen; देशे (deśe) - place; सहानुगः (sahānugaḥ) - with attendants; निवासम् (nivāsam) - residence; अकरोत् (akarot) - he made; धीमान् (dhīmān) - wise; सस्त्रीवृद्धपुरःसरः (sa-strī-vṛddha-puraḥsaraḥ) - with women and the elderly leading;]
(The king and with the Pāṇḍavas, together with (his) attendants, in the chosen place, wise, with women and the elderly at the front, made (their) residence.)
The wise king, along with the Pāṇḍavas and his attendants, made his residence in the chosen place, with women and the elderly at the forefront. (15-39-22)
जगाम तदहश्चापि तेषां वर्षशतं यथा। निशां प्रतीक्षमाणानां दिदृक्षूणां मृतान्नृपान् ॥१५-३९-२३॥
jagāma tadahaścāpi teṣāṃ varṣaśataṃ yathā। niśāṃ pratīkṣamāṇānāṃ didṛkṣūṇāṃ mṛtānnṛpān॥15-39-23॥
[जगाम (jagāma) - (he/she/it) passed; (from √gam, to go; 3rd person singular, perfect active); तदहः (tadahaḥ) - that day; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; तेषाम् (teṣām) - of them; वर्षशतम् (varṣaśatam) - hundred years; यथा (yathā) - as if; निशाम् (niśām) - the night; प्रतीक्षमाणानाम् (pratīkṣamāṇānām) - for those waiting; दिदृक्षूणाम् (didṛkṣūṇām) - desiring to see; मृतान् (mṛtān) - the dead; नृपान् (nṛpān) - kings;]
(That day also passed for them as a hundred years, to those waiting through the night, desiring to see the dead kings.)
To those who waited through the night, longing to see the dead kings, that day also passed just like a hundred years. (15-39-23)
अथ पुण्यं गिरिवरमस्तमभ्यगमद्रविः। ततः कृताभिषेकास्ते नैशं कर्म समाचरन् ॥१५-३९-२४॥
atha puṇyaṃ girivaram astam abhyagamad raviḥ. tataḥ kṛtābhiṣekās te naiśaṃ karma samācaran ॥15-39-24॥
[अथ (atha) (atha) - then; पुण्यम् (puṇyam) (puṇyam) - auspicious; गिरिवरम् (girivaram) (girivaram) - the excellent mountain; अस्तम् (astam) (astam) - to the setting (west); अभ्यगमत् (abhyagamat) (abhyagamat) - approached; रविः (raviḥ) (raviḥ) - the sun; ततः (tataḥ) (tataḥ) - thereafter; कृताभिषेकाः (kṛtābhiṣekāḥ) (kṛtābhiṣekāḥ) - those who had performed the bathing; ते (te) (te) - they; नैशम् (naiśam) (naiśam) - nightly; कर्म (karma) (karma) - rite; समाचरन् (samācaran) (samācaran) - performed;]
(Then the sun approached the auspicious excellent mountain for setting. Thereafter, those who had performed the bathing, they performed the nightly rite.)
Then the sun approached the holy and excellent mountain as it was setting. Thereafter, those who had completed the bathing performed the nightly ritual. (15-39-24)
