Library:Lord Narayana instructs Brahma to churn the milk ocean by Gods and Demons.
सूत उवाच॥
Sūta said:
एतस्मिन्नेव काले तु भगिन्यौ ते तपोधन। अपश्यतां समायान्तमुच्चैःश्रवसमन्तिकात् ॥१-१५-१॥
At that very moment, O sage, the two sisters noticed Uccaiḥśravas coming closer.
यं तं देवगणाः सर्वे हृष्टरूपा अपूजयन्। मथ्यमानेऽमृते जातमश्वरत्नमनुत्तमम् ॥१-१५-२॥
All the gods, joyful in appearance, worshipped him. When the nectar was churned, the unsurpassed horse jewel emerged.
महौघबलमश्वानामुत्तमं जवतां वरम्। श्रीमन्तमजरं दिव्यं सर्वलक्षणलक्षितम् ॥१-१५-३॥
The horses, possessing the great strength of a flood, are the best among the swift, glorious, ageless, divine, and marked with all auspicious signs.
शौनक उवाच॥
Śaunaka spoke:
कथं तदमृतं देवैर्मथितं क्व च शंस मे। यत्र जज्ञे महावीर्यः सोऽश्वराजो महाद्युतिः ॥१-१५-४॥
How did the gods churn that nectar, and where was the greatly powerful and splendid king of horses born? Tell me.
सूत उवाच॥
Sūta said:
ज्वलन्तमचलं मेरुं तेजोराशिमनुत्तमम्। आक्षिपन्तं प्रभां भानोः स्वशृङ्गैः काञ्चनोज्ज्वलैः ॥१-१५-५॥
The immovable Mount Meru, shining and unsurpassed in its brilliance, casts the light of the sun with its golden, radiant peaks.
काञ्चनाभरणं चित्रं देवगन्धर्वसेवितम्। अप्रमेयमनाधृष्यमधर्मबहुलैर्जनैः ॥१-१५-६॥
A wonderful golden ornament served by gods and celestial musicians, immeasurable and invincible by people abundant in unrighteousness.
व्यालैराचरितं घोरैर्दिव्यौषधिविदीपितम्। नाकमावृत्य तिष्ठन्तमुच्छ्रयेण महागिरिम् ॥१-१५-७॥
A great mountain, inhabited by terrible serpents and illuminated by divine herbs, stood tall, covering the heavens with its height.
अगम्यं मनसाप्यन्यैर्नदीवृक्षसमन्वितम्। नानापतगसङ्घैश्च नादितं सुमनोहरैः ॥१-१५-८॥
The place is so enchanting that it is beyond the reach of even the mind, filled with rivers and trees, and resonating with the sounds of various charming birds.
तस्य पृष्ठमुपारुह्य बहुरत्नाचितं शुभम्। अनन्तकल्पमुद्विद्धं सुराः सर्वे महौजसः ॥१-१५-९॥
All the gods of great energy mounted his back, which was adorned with many jewels and was auspicious, appearing as if it had endless imagination and was elevated.
ते मन्त्रयितुमारब्धास्तत्रासीना दिवौकसः। अमृतार्थे समागम्य तपोनियमसंस्थिताः ॥१-१५-१०॥
The gods, having gathered there for the purpose of obtaining nectar, began their deliberations while seated and engaged in austerities.
तत्र नारायणो देवो ब्रह्माणमिदमब्रवीत्। चिन्तयत्सु सुरेष्वेवं मन्त्रयत्सु च सर्वशः ॥१-१५-११॥
There, Lord Narayana addressed Brahma, saying this: While the gods were contemplating and deliberating in every way.
देवैरसुरसङ्घैश्च मथ्यतां कलशोदधिः। भविष्यत्यमृतं तत्र मथ्यमाने महोदधौ ॥१-१५-१२॥
The gods and the groups of demons should churn the ocean of pots. Nectar will emerge there when the great ocean is churned.
सर्वौषधीः समावाप्य सर्वरत्नानि चैव हि। मन्थध्वमुदधिं देवा वेत्स्यध्वममृतं ततः ॥१-१५-१३॥
O gods, by collecting all herbs and jewels, churn the ocean and you will obtain the nectar.

ॐ असतो मा सद्गमय। तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय। मृत्योर्माऽमृतं गमय। ॐ शान्ति: शान्ति: शान्ति: ॥ - बृहदारण्यकोपनिषद् 1.3.28
