एतस्मिन्नेव काले तु भगिन्यौ ते तपोधन। अपश्यतां समायान्तमुच्चैःश्रवसमन्तिकात् ॥१-१५-१॥
etasmínneva kāle tu bhagin yau te tapodhana। apaśyatāṃ samāyāntam uccaiḥśravasam antikāt ॥1-15-1॥
[एतस्मिन्नेव (etasmínneva) - at that very time; काले (kāle) - time; तु (tu) - but; भगिन्यौ (bhagin yau) - the two sisters; ते (te) - they; तपोधन (tapodhana) - O sage; अपश्यतां (apaśyatāṃ) - saw; समायान्तम् (samāyāntam) - approaching; उच्चैःश्रवसम् (uccaiḥśravasam) - Uccaiḥśravas; अन्तिकात् (antikāt) - from a distance;]
(At that very time, O sage, the two sisters saw Uccaiḥśravas approaching from a distance.)

यं तं देवगणाः सर्वे हृष्टरूपा अपूजयन्। मथ्यमानेऽमृते जातमश्वरत्नमनुत्तमम् ॥१-१५-२॥
yaṁ taṁ devagaṇāḥ sarve hṛṣṭarūpā apūjayan। mathyamāne'mṛte jāta maśvaratnam anuttamam ॥1-15-2॥

(Whom that all the groups of gods, joyful in appearance, worshipped. When the nectar was being churned, the unsurpassed horse jewel was born.)

महौघबलमश्वानामुत्तमं जवतां वरम्। श्रीमन्तमजरं दिव्यं सर्वलक्षणलक्षितम् ॥१-१५-३॥
mahaughabalam aśvānām uttamaṃ javatāṃ varam। śrīmantaṃ ajaraṃ divyaṃ sarvalakṣaṇalakṣitam ॥1-15-3॥
[महौघबलम् (mahaughabalam) - great strength of a flood; अश्वानाम् (aśvānām) - of horses; उत्तमम् (uttamam) - best; जवताम् (javatām) - of the swift; वरम् (varam) - excellent; श्रीमन्तम् (śrīmantaṃ) - glorious; अजरम् (ajaram) - ageless; दिव्यम् (divyam) - divine; सर्वलक्षणलक्षितम् (sarvalakṣaṇalakṣitam) - marked with all auspicious signs;]
(The great strength of a flood, the best of horses, excellent among the swift, glorious, ageless, divine, marked with all auspicious signs.)

कथं तदमृतं देवैर्मथितं क्व च शंस मे। यत्र जज्ञे महावीर्यः सोऽश्वराजो महाद्युतिः ॥१-१५-४॥
kathaṁ tadamṛtaṁ devairmathitaṁ kva ca śaṁsa me| yatra jajñe mahāvīryaḥ so'śvarājo mahādyutiḥ ॥1-15-4॥
[कथं (kathaṁ) - how; तत् (tad) - that; अमृतं (amṛtaṁ) - nectar; देवैः (devaiḥ) - by the gods; मथितं (mathitaṁ) - churned; क्व (kva) - where; च (ca) - and; शंस (śaṁsa) - tell; मे (me) - me; यत्र (yatra) - where; जज्ञे (jajñe) - was born; महावीर्यः (mahāvīryaḥ) - greatly powerful; सः (saḥ) - he; अश्वराजः (aśvarājaḥ) - king of horses; महाद्युतिः (mahādyutiḥ) - of great splendor;]
(How was that nectar churned by the gods, and where, tell me, was born the greatly powerful king of horses of great splendor?)

ज्वलन्तमचलं मेरुं तेजोराशिमनुत्तमम्। आक्षिपन्तं प्रभां भानोः स्वशृङ्गैः काञ्चनोज्ज्वलैः ॥१-१५-५॥
jvalantam acalaṃ meruṃ tejorāśim anuttamam। ākṣipantaṃ prabhāṃ bhānoḥ svaśṛṅgaiḥ kāñcanojjvalaiḥ ॥1-15-5॥
[ज्वलन्तम् (jvalantam) - shining; अचलम् (acalam) - immovable; मेरुम् (merum) - Meru; तेजोराशिम् (tejorāśim) - mass of light; अनुत्तमम् (anuttamam) - unsurpassed; आक्षिपन्तम् (ākṣipantam) - casting; प्रभाम् (prabhām) - light; भानोः (bhānoḥ) - of the sun; स्वशृङ्गैः (svaśṛṅgaiḥ) - with its peaks; काञ्चनोज्ज्वलैः (kāñcanojjvalaiḥ) - golden shining;]
(Shining, immovable Meru, unsurpassed mass of light, casting the light of the sun with its golden shining peaks.)

व्यालैराचरितं घोरैर्दिव्यौषधिविदीपितम्। नाकमावृत्य तिष्ठन्तमुच्छ्रयेण महागिरिम् ॥१-१५-७॥
vyālair ācaritaṃ ghorair divyauṣadhividīpitam। nākam āvṛtya tiṣṭhantam ucchrayeṇa mahāgirim ॥1-15-7॥
[व्यालैः (vyālaiḥ) - by serpents; आचरितं (ācaritaṃ) - inhabited; घोरैः (ghoraiḥ) - terrible; दिव्य (divya) - divine; औषधि (auṣadhi) - herbs; विदीपितम् (vidīpitam) - illuminated; नाकम् (nākam) - heaven; आवृत्य (āvṛtya) - covering; तिष्ठन्तम् (tiṣṭhantam) - standing; उच्छ्रयेण (ucchrayeṇa) - by height; महागिरिम् (mahāgirim) - great mountain;]
(A great mountain, inhabited by terrible serpents, illuminated by divine herbs, standing covering heaven by its height.)

अगम्यं मनसाप्यन्यैर्नदीवृक्षसमन्वितम्। नानापतगसङ्घैश्च नादितं सुमनोहरैः ॥१-१५-८॥

[अगम्यम् (agamyaṃ) - inaccessible; मनसा (manasā) - by mind; अपि (api) - even; अन्यैः (anyaiḥ) - by others; नदी (nadī) - river; वृक्ष (vṛkṣa) - trees; समन्वितम् (samanvitam) - endowed with; नाना (nānā) - various; पतग (pataga) - birds; सङ्घैः (saṅghaiḥ) - by groups; च (ca) - and; नादितम् (nāditam) - resounded; सुमनोहरैः (sumanoharaiḥ) - charming;]
(Inaccessible even by mind, endowed with rivers and trees, resounded by groups of various charming birds.)
The place is so enchanting that it is beyond the reach of even the mind, filled with rivers and trees, and resonating with the sounds of various charming birds.
तस्य पृष्ठमुपारुह्य बहुरत्नाचितं शुभम्। अनन्तकल्पमुद्विद्धं सुराः सर्वे महौजसः ॥१-१५-९॥
tasya pṛṣṭham upāruhya bahuratnācitaṃ śubham। anantakalpam udviddhaṃ surāḥ sarve mahaujasaḥ ॥1-15-9॥
[तस्य (tasya) - his; पृष्ठम् (pṛṣṭham) - back; उपारुह्य (upāruhya) - having mounted; बहु-रत्न-आचितम् (bahu-ratna-ācitam) - adorned with many jewels; शुभम् (śubham) - auspicious; अनन्त-कल्पम् (ananta-kalpam) - endless imagination; उद्विद्धम् (udviddham) - elevated; सुराः (surāḥ) - gods; सर्वे (sarve) - all; महौजसः (mahaujasaḥ) - of great energy;]
(Having mounted his back, adorned with many jewels, auspicious, endless imagination, elevated, all the gods of great energy.)
All the gods of great energy mounted his back, which was adorned with many jewels and was auspicious, appearing as if it had endless imagination and was elevated.
ते मन्त्रयितुमारब्धास्तत्रासीना दिवौकसः। अमृतार्थे समागम्य तपोनियमसंस्थिताः ॥१-१५-१०॥
te mantrayitumārabdhāstatraāsīnā divaukasaḥ। amṛtārthe samāgamya taponiyamasaṃsthitāḥ ॥1-15-10॥
[ते (te) - they; मन्त्रयितुम् (mantrayitum) - to deliberate; आरब्धाः (ārabdhāḥ) - began; तत्र (tatra) - there; आसीनाः (āsīnāḥ) - seated; दिवौकसः (divaukasaḥ) - gods; अमृतार्थे (amṛtārthe) - for the sake of nectar; समागम्य (samāgamya) - having assembled; तपोनियमसंस्थिताः (taponiyamasaṃsthitāḥ) - engaged in austerities;]
(They began to deliberate, the gods seated there, having assembled for the sake of nectar, engaged in austerities.)
The gods, having gathered there for the purpose of obtaining nectar, began their deliberations while seated and engaged in austerities.
तत्र नारायणो देवो ब्रह्माणमिदमब्रवीत्। चिन्तयत्सु सुरेष्वेवं मन्त्रयत्सु च सर्वशः ॥१-१५-११॥
tatra nārāyaṇo devo brahmāṇamidamabravīt। cintayatsu sureṣvevaṃ mantrayatsu ca sarvaśaḥ ॥1-15-11॥
[तत्र (tatra) - there; नारायणः (nārāyaṇaḥ) - Narayana; देवः (devaḥ) - god; ब्रह्माणम् (brahmāṇam) - Brahma; इदम् (idam) - this; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; चिन्तयत्सु (cintayatsu) - while thinking; सुरेषु (sureṣu) - among the gods; एवम् (evam) - thus; मन्त्रयत्सु (mantrayatsu) - while deliberating; च (ca) - and; सर्वशः (sarvaśaḥ) - completely;]
(There, Narayana, the god, said this to Brahma. While thinking among the gods, thus deliberating completely.)
There, Lord Narayana addressed Brahma, saying this: While the gods were contemplating and deliberating in every way.
देवैरसुरसङ्घैश्च मथ्यतां कलशोदधिः। भविष्यत्यमृतं तत्र मथ्यमाने महोदधौ ॥१-१५-१२॥
devair asura-saṅghaiś ca mathyatāṃ kalaśodadhiḥ। bhaviṣyaty amṛtaṃ tatra mathyamāne mahodadhau ॥1-15-12॥
[देवैः (devaiḥ) - by the gods; असुरसङ्घैः (asura-saṅghaiḥ) - by the groups of demons; च (ca) - and; मथ्यताम् (mathyatām) - let it be churned; कलशोदधिः (kalaśodadhiḥ) - the ocean of pots; भविष्यति (bhaviṣyati) - will be; अमृतम् (amṛtam) - nectar; तत्र (tatra) - there; मथ्यमाने (mathyamāne) - while being churned; महोदधौ (mahodadhau) - in the great ocean;]
(By the gods and the groups of demons, let the ocean of pots be churned. Nectar will be there while the great ocean is being churned.)
The gods and the groups of demons should churn the ocean of pots. Nectar will emerge there when the great ocean is churned.
सर्वौषधीः समावाप्य सर्वरत्नानि चैव हि। मन्थध्वमुदधिं देवा वेत्स्यध्वममृतं ततः ॥१-१५-१३॥
sarvauṣadhīḥ samāvāpya sarvaratnāni caiva hi। manthadhvamudadhiṃ devā vetsyadhvamamṛtaṃ tataḥ ॥1-15-13॥
[सर्वौषधीः (sarvauṣadhīḥ) - all herbs; समावाप्य (samāvāpya) - having collected; सर्वरत्नानि (sarvaratnāni) - all jewels; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; हि (hi) - certainly; मन्थध्वम् (manthadhvam) - churn; उदधिम् (udadhiṃ) - the ocean; देवाः (devāḥ) - O gods; वेत्स्यध्वम् (vetsyadhvam) - you will obtain; अमृतम् (amṛtam) - nectar; ततः (tataḥ) - then;]
(Having collected all herbs and all jewels, indeed, certainly churn the ocean, O gods, you will obtain nectar then.)
