[एतत् (etat) - this; ते (te) - to you; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; आख्यातम् (ākhyātam) - told; अमृतम् (amṛtam) - nectar; मथितम् (mathitam) - churned; यथा (yathā) - as; यत्र (yatra) - where; सः (saḥ) - that; अश्वः (aśvaḥ) - horse; समुत्पन्नः (samutpannaḥ) - arisen; श्रीमान् (śrīmān) - glorious; अतुलविक्रमः (atulavikramaḥ) - of incomparable valor;]
(This all has been told to you, how the nectar was churned, where that horse of incomparable valor and glory arose.)

(Having heard this, Kadru then said to Vinata: "O dear, know without delay what color Uccaiḥśravā is.")

[कृष्णवालम् (kṛṣṇavālam) - black horse; अहम् (aham) - I; मन््ये (manye) - think; हयम् (hayam) - horse; एनम् (enam) - this; शुचिस्मिते (śucismite) - O fair-smiling one; एहि (ehi) - come; सार्धम् (sārdham) - together; मया (mayā) - with me; दीव्य (dīvya) - play; दासीभावाय (dāsībhāvāya) - to servitude; भामिनि (bhāmini) - O beautiful lady;]

एवं ते समयं कृत्वा दासीभावाय वै मिथः। जग्मतुः स्वगृहानेव श्वो द्रक्ष्याव इति स्म ह ॥१-१८-५॥
evaṃ te samayaṃ kṛtvā dāsībhāvāya vai mithaḥ। jagmatuḥ svagṛhāneva śvo drakṣyāva iti sma ha ॥1-18-5॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; ते (te) - they; समयम् (samayam) - agreement; कृत्वा (kṛtvā) - having made; दासीभावाय (dāsībhāvāya) - for servitude; वै (vai) - indeed; मिथः (mithaḥ) - mutually; जग्मतुः (jagmatuḥ) - went; स्वगृहानेव (svagṛhāneva) - to their own homes; श्वः (śvaḥ) - tomorrow; द्रक्ष्याव (drakṣyāva) - we shall see; इति (iti) - thus; स्म (sma) - indeed; ह (ha) - indeed;]
(Thus, having made an agreement for servitude indeed mutually, they went to their own homes, saying, "We shall see tomorrow indeed.")

tataḥ putrasahasraṃ tu kadrūrjihmaṃ cikīrṣatī. ājñāpayāmāsa tadā vālā bhūtvāñjanaprabhāḥ ॥1-18-6॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; पुत्रसहस्रं (putrasahasraṃ) - thousand sons; तु (tu) - but; कद्रूः (kadrūḥ) - Kadru; जिह्मं (jihmaṃ) - crooked; चिकीर्षती (cikīrṣatī) - wishing to do; आज्ञापयामास (ājñāpayāmāsa) - ordered; तदा (tadā) - then; वाला (vālā) - hair; भूत्वा (bhūtvā) - having become; अञ्जनप्रभाः (añjanaprabhāḥ) - black-colored;]
(Then Kadru, wishing to do something crooked, ordered her thousand sons, "Become black-colored hairs.")
