एवं स्तुतस्तदा कद्र्वा भगवान्हरिवाहनः। नीलजीमूतसङ्घातैर्व्योम सर्वं समावृणोत् ॥१-२२-१॥
evaṃ stutastadā kadrvā bhagavānharivāhanaḥ। nīlajīmūtasaṅghātairvyoma sarvaṃ samāvṛṇot ॥1-22-1॥
[एवं (evaṃ) - thus; स्तुतः (stutaḥ) - praised; तदा (tadā) - then; कद्र्वा (kadrvā) - Kadru; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the divine; हरिवाहनः (harivāhanaḥ) - Hari's vehicle; नीलजीमूतसङ्घातैः (nīlajīmūtasaṅghātaiḥ) - with masses of dark clouds; व्योम (vyoma) - the sky; सर्वं (sarvaṃ) - all; समावृणोत् (samāvṛṇot) - covered;]
(Thus praised, then Kadru, the divine Hari's vehicle, covered all the sky with masses of dark clouds.)
Upon being praised in this manner, Kadru, the divine vehicle of Hari, enveloped the entire sky with clusters of dark clouds.
ते मेघा मुमुचुस्तोयं प्रभूतं विद्युदुज्ज्वलाः। परस्परमिवात्यर्थं गर्जन्तः सततं दिवि ॥१-२२-२॥
te meghā mumucustoyaṃ prabhūtaṃ vidyudujjvalāḥ। parasparamivātyarthaṃ garjantaḥ satataṃ divi ॥1-22-2॥
[ते (te) - they; मेघाः (meghāḥ) - clouds; मुमुचुः (mumucuḥ) - released; तोयम् (toyam) - water; प्रभूतम् (prabhūtam) - abundant; विद्युत्-उज्ज्वलाः (vidyud-ujjvalāḥ) - lightning-bright; परस्परम् (parasparam) - each other; इव (iva) - as if; अत्यर्थम् (atyartham) - excessively; गर्जन्तः (garjantaḥ) - roaring; सततम् (satatam) - continuously; दिवि (divi) - in the sky;]
(They, the clouds, released abundant water, bright with lightning, as if excessively roaring at each other continuously in the sky.)
The clouds released a great amount of water, shining with lightning, as if they were continuously roaring at each other in the sky.
सङ्घातितमिवाकाशं जलदैः सुमहाद्भुतैः। सृजद्भिरतुलं तोयमजस्रं सुमहारवैः ॥१-२२-३॥
saṅghātitamivākāśaṃ jaladaiḥ sumahādbhutaiḥ। sṛjadbhiratulaṃ toyamajasraṃ sumahāravaiḥ ॥1-22-3॥
[सङ्घातितम् (saṅghātitam) - gathered; इव (iva) - as if; आकाशम् (ākāśam) - sky; जलदैः (jaladaiḥ) - by clouds; सुमहाद्भुतैः (sumahādbhutaiḥ) - very wonderful; सृजद्भिः (sṛjadbhiḥ) - creating; अतुलम् (atulaṃ) - incomparable; तोयम् (toyam) - water; अजस्रम् (ajasram) - continuously; सुमहारवैः (sumahāravaiḥ) - with great sound;]
(The sky, as if gathered by very wonderful clouds, creating incomparable water continuously with great sound.)
The sky appeared as if it was gathered by very wonderful clouds, continuously creating incomparable water with a great sound.
सम्प्रनृत्तमिवाकाशं धारोर्मिभिरनेकशः। मेघस्तनितनिर्घोषमम्बरं समपद्यत ॥१-२२-४॥
sampranṛttamivākāśaṃ dhārormibhiranekaśaḥ| meghastanitanirghoṣamambaraṃ samapadyata ॥1-22-4॥
[सम्प्रनृत्तम् (sampranṛttam) - danced; इव (iva) - as if; आकाशम् (ākāśam) - sky; धारोर्मिभिः (dhārormibhiḥ) - with streams; अनेकशः (anekaśaḥ) - numerous; मेघ (megha) - cloud; स्तनित (stanita) - thunder; निर्घोषम् (nirghoṣam) - roaring; अम्बरम् (ambaram) - sky; समपद्यत (samapadyata) - became;]
(The sky, as if danced with numerous streams, became roaring with the thunder of clouds.)
The sky appeared to dance with numerous streams, echoing with the thunderous roar of clouds.
नागानामुत्तमो हर्शस्तदा वर्षति वासवे। आपूर्यत मही चापि सलिलेन समन्ततः ॥१-२२-५॥
nāgānāmuttamo harṣastadā varṣati vāsave। āpūryata mahī cāpi salilena samantataḥ ॥1-22-5॥
[नागानाम् (nāgānām) - of serpents; उत्तमः (uttamaḥ) - best; हर्षः (harṣaḥ) - joy; तदा (tadā) - then; वर्षति (varṣati) - rains; वासवे (vāsave) - Indra; आपूर्यत (āpūryata) - was filled; मही (mahī) - earth; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; सलिलेन (salilena) - with water; समन्ततः (samantataḥ) - all around;]
(The best joy of the serpents then rains from Indra. The earth was also filled with water all around.)
The greatest joy of the serpents was when Indra caused rain to fall. The earth was completely filled with water everywhere.
