tasya kaṇṭhamanuprāpto brāhmaṇaḥ saha bhāryayā। dahandīpta ivāṅgārastamuvācāntarikṣagaḥ ॥1-25-1॥
[तस्य (tasya) - his; कण्ठम् (kaṇṭham) - throat; अनुप्राप्तः (anuprāptaḥ) - reached; ब्राह्मणः (brāhmaṇaḥ) - Brahmin; सह (saha) - with; भार्यया (bhāryayā) - wife; दहन् (dahan) - burning; दीप्तः (dīptaḥ) - blazing; इव (iva) - like; अङ्गारः (aṅgāraḥ) - coal; तम् (tam) - him; उवाच (uvāca) - said; अन्तरिक्षगः (antarikṣagaḥ) - sky-goer;]
(The Brahmin, along with his wife, reached his throat, burning like a blazing coal, the sky-goer said to him.)
The Brahmin, accompanied by his wife, reached his throat, and the sky-goer, blazing like a burning coal, spoke to him.
द्विजोत्तम विनिर्गच्छ तूर्णमास्यादपावृतात्। न हि मे ब्राह्मणो वध्यः पापेष्वपि रतः सदा ॥१-२५-२॥
dvijottama vinirgaccha tūrṇamāsyādapāvṛtāt। na hi me brāhmaṇo vadhyaḥ pāpeṣvapi rataḥ sadā ॥1-25-2॥
[द्विजोत्तम (dvijottama) - O best of the twice-born; विनिर्गच्छ (vinirgaccha) - come out; तूर्णम् (tūrṇam) - quickly; आस्यात् (āsyāt) - from the mouth; अपावृतात् (apāvṛtāt) - uncovered; न (na) - not; हि (hi) - indeed; मे (me) - my; ब्राह्मणः (brāhmaṇaḥ) - Brahmin; वध्यः (vadhyaḥ) - to be killed; पापेषु (pāpeṣu) - in sins; अपि (api) - even; रतः (rataḥ) - engaged; सदा (sadā) - always;]
(O best of the twice-born, come out quickly from the uncovered mouth. Indeed, my Brahmin is not to be killed, even if always engaged in sins.)
O noble Brahmin, quickly emerge from the open mouth. My Brahmin should not be harmed, even if he is always indulged in sinful acts.
ब्रुवाणमेवं गरुडं ब्राह्मणः समभाषत। निषादी मम भार्येयं निर्गच्छतु मया सह ॥१-२५-३॥
bruvāṇamevaṃ garuḍaṃ brāhmaṇaḥ samabhāṣata। niṣādī mama bhāryeyaṃ nirgacchatu mayā saha ॥1-25-3॥
[ब्रुवाणम् (bruvāṇam) - speaking; एवं (evaṃ) - thus; गरुडम् (garuḍam) - Garuda; ब्राह्मणः (brāhmaṇaḥ) - the Brahmin; समभाषत (samabhāṣata) - addressed; निषादी (niṣādī) - the Nishadi; मम (mama) - my; भार्या (bhāryā) - wife; इयम् (iyam) - this; निर्गच्छतु (nirgacchatu) - should leave; मया (mayā) - with me; सह (saha) - together;]
(Speaking thus, the Brahmin addressed Garuda: "The Nishadi, my wife, should leave with me.")
The Brahmin spoke to Garuda, saying that his wife, the Nishadi, should accompany him.

एतामपि निषादीं त्वं परिगृह्याशु निष्पत। तूर्णं सम्भावयात्मानमजीर्णं मम तेजसा ॥१-२५-४॥
etām api niṣādīṃ tvaṃ parigṛhyāśu niṣpata. tūrṇaṃ sambhāvayātmānam ajīrṇaṃ mama tejasā ॥1-25-4॥
[एताम् (etām) - this; अपि (api) - also; निषादीम् (niṣādīm) - Nishadi; त्वम् (tvam) - you; परिगृह्य (parigṛhya) - having taken; आशु (āśu) - quickly; निष्पत (niṣpata) - depart; तूर्णम् (tūrṇam) - swiftly; सम्भावय (sambhāvaya) - consider; आत्मानम् (ātmānam) - yourself; अजीर्णम् (ajīrṇam) - undigested; मम (mama) - my; तेजसा (tejasā) - by power;]
(Take this Nishadi also and depart quickly. Swiftly consider yourself undigested by my power.)
Take this Nishadi and leave quickly. Swiftly, consider yourself as not yet consumed by my power.

ततः स विप्रो निष्क्रान्तो निषादीसहितस्तदा। वर्धयित्वा च गरुडमिष्टं देशं जगाम ह ॥१-२५-५॥
tataḥ sa vipro niṣkrānto niṣādīsahitastadā। vardhayitvā ca garuḍamiṣṭaṃ deśaṃ jagāma ha ॥1-25-5॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; सः (saḥ) - he; विप्रः (vipraḥ) - the sage; निष्क्रान्तः (niṣkrāntaḥ) - departed; निषादीसहितः (niṣādīsahitaḥ) - with the Niṣādī; तदा (tadā) - then; वर्धयित्वा (vardhayitvā) - having grown; च (ca) - and; गरुडम् (garuḍam) - Garuda; इष्टम् (iṣṭam) - desired; देशम् (deśam) - place; जगाम (jagāma) - went; ह (ha) - indeed;]
(Then he, the sage, departed with the Niṣādī. Having grown Garuda, he indeed went to the desired place.)
Then the sage left with the Niṣādī. After nurturing Garuda, he went to the place he desired.
सहभार्ये विनिष्क्रान्ते तस्मिन्विप्रे स पक्षिराट्। वितत्य पक्षावाकाशमुत्पपात मनोजवः ॥१-२५-६॥
sahabhārye viniṣkrānte tasminvipre sa pakṣirāṭ। vitatya pakṣāvākāśamutpapāta manojavaḥ ॥1-25-6॥
[सहभार्ये (sahabhārye) - with wife; विनिष्क्रान्ते (viniṣkrānte) - having departed; तस्मिन्विप्रे (tasminvipre) - that sage; स (sa) - he; पक्षिराट् (pakṣirāṭ) - king of birds; वितत्य (vitatya) - spreading; पक्षौ (pakṣau) - wings; आकाशम् (ākāśam) - sky; उत्पपात (utpapāta) - flew; मनोजवः (manojavaḥ) - swift as mind;]
(With wife having departed, that sage, he, the king of birds, spreading wings, flew sky swift as mind.)
When the sage, along with his wife, had departed, the king of birds spread his wings and flew into the sky with the speed of thought.
ततोऽपश्यत्स पितरं पृष्टश्चाख्यातवान्पितुः। अहं हि सर्पैः प्रहितः सोममाहर्तुमुद्यतः ॥ मातुर्दास्यविमोक्षार्थमाहरिष्ये तमद्य वै ॥१-२५-७॥
tato'paśyat sa pitaraṃ pṛṣṭaścākhyātavān pituḥ। ahaṃ hi sarpaiḥ prahitaḥ somam āhartum udyataḥ ॥ mātur dāsyavimokṣārtham āhariṣye tam adya vai ॥1-25-7॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; अपश्यत् (apaśyat) - saw; सः (saḥ) - he; पितरं (pitaraṃ) - father; पृष्टः (pṛṣṭaḥ) - asked; च (ca) - and; आख्यातवान् (ākhyātavān) - told; पितुः (pituḥ) - to father; अहम् (aham) - I; हि (hi) - indeed; सर्पैः (sarpaiḥ) - by serpents; प्रहितः (prahitaḥ) - sent; सोमम् (somam) - Soma; आहर्तुम् (āhartum) - to bring; उद्यतः (udyataḥ) - prepared; मातुः (mātuḥ) - of mother; दास्य (dāsya) - servitude; विमोक्षार्थम् (vimokṣārtham) - for liberation; आहरिष्ये (āhariṣye) - I will bring; तम् (tam) - that; अद्य (adya) - today; वै (vai) - indeed;]
(Then he saw his father and, when asked, told his father: "Indeed, I have been sent by the serpents to bring Soma. For the liberation of my mother's servitude, I will bring it today indeed.")
Then he saw his father and, upon being asked, he explained to his father: "I have indeed been sent by the serpents to fetch Soma. I am determined to bring it today for the liberation of my mother's servitude."
मात्रा चास्मि समादिष्टो निषादान्भक्षयेति वै। न च मे तृप्तिरभवद्भक्षयित्वा सहस्रशः ॥१-२५-८॥
mātrā cāsmi samādiṣṭo niṣādānbhakṣayeti vai| na ca me tṛptirabhavadbhakṣayitvā sahasraśaḥ ॥1-25-8॥
[मात्रा (mātrā) - by mother; च (ca) - and; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; समादिष्टः (samādiṣṭaḥ) - instructed; निषादान् (niṣādān) - Nishadas; भक्षय (bhakṣaya) - to eat; इति (iti) - thus; वै (vai) - indeed; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; मे (me) - my; तृप्तिः (tṛptiḥ) - satisfaction; अभवत् (abhavat) - became; भक्षयित्वा (bhakṣayitvā) - having eaten; सहस्रशः (sahasraśaḥ) - thousands;]
(By mother and I am instructed to eat Nishadas thus indeed. Not and my satisfaction became having eaten thousands.)
My mother instructed me to eat the Nishadas, but even after eating thousands, I did not find satisfaction.
तस्माद्भोक्तव्यमपरं भगवन्प्रदिशस्व मे। यद्भुक्त्वामृतमाहर्तुं समर्थः स्यामहं प्रभो ॥१-२५-९॥
tasmādbhoktavyamaparaṃ bhagavanpradiśasva me| yadbhuktvāmṛtamāhartuṃ samarthaḥ syāmahaṃ prabho ॥1-25-9॥
[तस्मात् (tasmāt) - therefore; भोक्तव्यम् (bhoktavyam) - to be eaten; अपरम् (aparam) - another; भगवन् (bhagavan) - O Lord; प्रदिशस्व (pradiśasva) - please give; मे (me) - to me; यत् (yat) - which; भुक्त्वा (bhuktvā) - having eaten; अमृतम् (amṛtam) - nectar; आहर्तुम् (āhartum) - to obtain; समर्थः (samarthaḥ) - capable; स्याम् (syām) - I may become; अहम् (aham) - I; प्रभो (prabho) - O master;]
(Therefore, O Lord, please give me another to be eaten, which having eaten, I may become capable of obtaining nectar, O master.)
Therefore, O Lord, please provide me with another offering to consume, so that by consuming it, I may become capable of obtaining the nectar, O master.
कश्यप उवाच॥

आसीद्विभावसुर्नाम महर्षिः कोपनो भृशम्। भ्राता तस्यानुजश्चासीत्सुप्रतीको महातपाः ॥१-२५-१०॥
āsīd vibhāvasur nāma maharṣiḥ kopano bhṛśam। bhrātā tasyānujaś cāsīt supratīko mahātapāḥ ॥1-25-10॥
[आसीत् (āsīt) - was; विभावसुः (vibhāvasuḥ) - Vibhavasu; नाम (nāma) - named; महर्षिः (maharṣiḥ) - great sage; कोपनः (kopanaḥ) - irritable; भृशम् (bhṛśam) - very; भ्राता (bhrātā) - brother; तस्य (tasya) - his; अनुजः (anujaḥ) - younger; च (ca) - and; आसीत् (āsīt) - was; सुप्रतीकः (supratīkaḥ) - Supratika; महातपाः (mahātapāḥ) - greatly austere;]
(There was a great sage named Vibhavasu, who was very irritable. His younger brother was Supratika, who was greatly austere.)
There was a great sage named Vibhavasu, known for his irritability. His younger brother, Supratika, was known for his great austerity.
स नेच्छति धनं भ्रात्रा सहैकस्थं महामुनिः। विभागं कीर्तयत्येव सुप्रतीकोऽथ नित्यशः ॥१-२५-११॥
sa neccati dhanaṁ bhrātrā sahaikasthaṁ mahāmuniḥ। vibhāgaṁ kīrtayatyeva supratīko'tha nityaśaḥ ॥1-25-11॥
[स (sa) - he; न (na) - not; इच्छति (icchati) - desires; धनं (dhanaṁ) - wealth; भ्रात्रा (bhrātrā) - with brother; सह (saha) - together; एकस्थं (eka-sthaṁ) - in one place; महामुनिः (mahāmuniḥ) - great sage; विभागं (vibhāgaṁ) - division; कीर्तयति (kīrtayati) - proclaims; एव (eva) - indeed; सुप्रतीकः (supratīkaḥ) - Supratika; अथ (atha) - then; नित्यशः (nityaśaḥ) - always;]
(He does not desire wealth together with his brother in one place, the great sage. Supratika indeed proclaims division then always.)
The great sage does not wish to keep the wealth together with his brother in one place. Supratika always speaks of division.
अथाब्रवीच्च तं भ्राता सुप्रतीकं विभावसुः। विभागं बहवो मोहात्कर्तुमिच्छन्ति नित्यदा ॥ ततो विभक्ता अन्योन्यं नाद्रियन्तेऽर्थमोहिताः ॥१-२५-१२॥
athābravīcca taṃ bhrātā supratīkaṃ vibhāvasuḥ| vibhāgaṃ bahavo mohātkartumicchanti nityadā ॥ tato vibhaktā anyonyaṃ nādriyante'rthamohitāḥ ॥1-25-12॥
[अथ (atha) - then; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; च (ca) - and; तं (taṃ) - him; भ्राता (bhrātā) - brother; सुप्रतीकं (supratīkaṃ) - Supratika; विभावसुः (vibhāvasuḥ) - Vibhavasu; विभागं (vibhāgaṃ) - division; बहवः (bahavaḥ) - many; मोहात् (mohāt) - out of delusion; कर्तुम् (kartum) - to do; इच्छन्ति (icchanti) - wish; नित्यदा (nityadā) - always; ततः (tataḥ) - then; विभक्ताः (vibhaktāḥ) - divided; अन्योन्यम् (anyonyaṃ) - each other; न (na) - not; अद्रियन्ते (adriyante) - respect; अर्थ (artha) - meaning; मोहिताः (mohitāḥ) - deluded;]
(Then Vibhavasu, the brother, said to Supratika: "Many always wish to make divisions out of delusion. Then, being divided, they do not respect each other, being deluded by meaning.")
Then Vibhavasu, the brother, said to Supratika: "Many people, out of delusion, always wish to create divisions. Consequently, once divided, they fail to respect each other, being misled by their own interpretations."
ततः स्वार्थपरान्मूढान्पृथग्भूतान्स्वकैर्धनैः। विदित्वा भेदयन्त्येतानमित्रा मित्ररूपिणः ॥१-२५-१३॥
tataḥ svārthaparānmūḍhānpṛthagbhūtānsvakairdhanaiḥ| viditvā bhedayantyetānamitrā mitrarūpiṇaḥ ॥1-25-13॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; स्वार्थपरान् (svārthaparān) - selfish; मूढान् (mūḍhān) - foolish; पृथग्भूतान् (pṛthagbhūtān) - divided; स्वकैः (svakaiḥ) - by their own; धनैः (dhanaiḥ) - wealth; विदित्वा (viditvā) - knowing; भेदयन्ति (bhedayanti) - they divide; एतान् (etān) - these; अमित्राः (amitrāḥ) - enemies; मित्ररूपिणः (mitrarūpiṇaḥ) - in the guise of friends;]
(Then, knowing the selfish, foolish, divided ones by their own wealth, these enemies in the guise of friends divide them.)
Then, enemies disguised as friends, knowing the selfish and foolish who are divided by their own wealth, manipulate and divide them.
विदित्वा चापरे भिन्नानन्तरेषु पतन्त्यथ। भिन्नानामतुलो नाशः क्षिप्रमेव प्रवर्तते ॥१-२५-१४॥
viditvā cāpare bhinnānantareṣu patantyatha। bhinnānāmatulo nāśaḥ kṣiprameva pravartate ॥1-25-14॥
[विदित्वा (viditvā) - having known; च (ca) - and; अपरे (apare) - others; भिन्नानन्तरेषु (bhinnānantareṣu) - in different intervals; पतन्ति (patanti) - fall; अथ (atha) - then; भिन्नानाम् (bhinnānām) - of the broken ones; अतुलः (atulaḥ) - incomparable; नाशः (nāśaḥ) - destruction; क्षिप्रम् (kṣipram) - quickly; एव (eva) - indeed; प्रवर्तते (pravartate) - occurs;]
(Having known, others fall in different intervals then. The incomparable destruction of the broken ones occurs quickly indeed.)
Having realized, others fall at different intervals, and the destruction of the broken ones is unmatched and occurs very swiftly.
तस्माच्चैव विभागार्थं न प्रशंसन्ति पण्डिताः। गुरुशास्त्रे निबद्धानामन्योन्यमभिशङ्किनाम् ॥१-२५-१५॥
tasmāccaiva vibhāgārthaṃ na praśaṃsanti paṇḍitāḥ। guruśāstre nibaddhānāmanyonyamabhiśaṅkinām ॥1-25-15॥
[तस्मात् (tasmāt) - therefore; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; विभागार्थम् (vibhāgārtham) - for division; न (na) - not; प्रशंसन्ति (praśaṃsanti) - praise; पण्डिताः (paṇḍitāḥ) - the wise; गुरुशास्त्रे (guruśāstre) - in the authoritative texts; निबद्धानाम् (nibaddhānām) - of those bound; अन्योन्यम् (anyonyam) - each other; अभिशङ्किनाम् (abhiśaṅkinām) - of those who suspect;]
(Therefore, indeed, the wise do not praise division in the authoritative texts of those bound, each other suspecting.)

नियन्तुं न हि शक्यस्त्वं भेदतो धनमिच्छसि। यस्मात्तस्मात्सुप्रतीक हस्तित्वं समवाप्स्यसि ॥१-२५-१६॥
niyantuṃ na hi śakyastvaṃ bhedato dhanamicchasi। yasmāttasmātsupratīka hastitvaṃ samavāpsyasi ॥1-25-16॥
[नियन्तुं (niyantuṃ) - to control; न (na) - not; हि (hi) - indeed; शक्यः (śakyaḥ) - possible; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; भेदतः (bhedataḥ) - by division; धनम् (dhanam) - wealth; इच्छसि (icchasi) - you desire; यस्मात् (yasmāt) - therefore; तस्मात् (tasmāt) - hence; सुप्रतीकः (supratīkaḥ) - well-formed; हस्तित्वं (hastitvaṃ) - elephant-like state; समवाप्स्यसि (samavāpsyasi) - you will attain;]
(To control is not indeed possible for you by division; therefore, hence, you desire wealth, you will attain a well-formed elephant-like state.)

śaptastvevaṃ supratīko vibhāvasumathābravīt। tvamapyantarjalacaraḥ kacchapaḥ sambhaviṣyasi ॥1-25-17॥
[शप्तः (śaptaḥ) - cursed; त्वम् (tvam) - you; एवम् (evam) - thus; सुप्रतीकः (supratīkaḥ) - Supratika; विभावसुः (vibhāvasuḥ) - Vibhavasu; अथ (atha) - then; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; त्वम् (tvam) - you; अपि (api) - also; अन्तर्जलचरः (antarjalacaraḥ) - aquatic creature; कच्छपः (kacchapaḥ) - turtle; सम्भविष्यसि (sambhaviṣyasi) - will become;]
(Cursed thus, Supratika said to Vibhavasu, "You will also become an aquatic creature, a turtle.")
Supratika, having been cursed, then said to Vibhavasu, "You too will become a turtle living in water."
एवमन्योन्यशापात्तौ सुप्रतीकविभावसू। गजकच्छपतां प्राप्तावर्थार्थं मूढचेतसौ ॥१-२५-१८॥
evam anyonyaśāpāttau supratīkavibhāvasū। gajakacchapatāṃ prāptāv arthārthaṃ mūḍhacetasaū ॥1-25-18॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; अन्योन्य (anyonya) - each other; शापात् (śāpāt) - from curse; तौ (tau) - they both; सुप्रतीक (supratīka) - Supratika; विभावसू (vibhāvasū) - Vibhavasu; गज (gaja) - elephant; कच्छपतां (kacchapatāṃ) - tortoise state; प्राप्तौ (prāptau) - attained; अर्थार्थं (arthārthaṃ) - for wealth; मूढचेतसौ (mūḍhacetasaū) - deluded minds;]
(Thus, from each other's curse, they both, Supratika and Vibhavasu, attained the state of an elephant and a tortoise, for wealth, with deluded minds.)
Due to cursing each other, Supratika and Vibhavasu were transformed into an elephant and a tortoise, driven by their deluded desire for wealth.
रोषदोषानुषङ्गेण तिर्यग्योनिगतावपि। परस्परद्वेषरतौ प्रमाणबलदर्पितौ ॥१-२५-१९॥
roṣadoṣānuṣaṅgeṇa tiryagyonigatāvapi| parasparadveṣaratau pramāṇabaladarpitau ॥1-25-19॥
[रोष (roṣa) - anger; दोष (doṣa) - fault; अनुषङ्गेण (anuṣaṅgeṇa) - by association; तिर्यक् (tiryak) - animal; योनि (yoni) - womb; गतौ (gatau) - gone; अपि (api) - even; परस्पर (paraspara) - mutual; द्वेष (dveṣa) - hatred; रतौ (ratau) - engaged; प्रमाण (pramāṇa) - measure; बल (bala) - strength; दर्पितौ (darpitau) - proud;]
(Even by the association of anger and fault, gone into the animal womb, engaged in mutual hatred, proud of measure and strength.)
Due to the association of anger and faults, even those who have gone into the animal womb are engaged in mutual hatred, being proud of their measure and strength.
सरस्यस्मिन्महाकायौ पूर्ववैरानुसारिणौ। तयोरेकतरः श्रीमान्समुपैति महागजः ॥१-२५-२०॥
sarasyasminmahākāyau pūrvavairānusāriṇau। tayorekataraḥ śrīmānsamupaiti mahāgajaḥ ॥1-25-20॥
[सरसि (sarasi) - in the lake; अस्मिन् (asmin) - in this; महाकायौ (mahākāyau) - two great-bodied ones; पूर्व (pūrva) - former; वैर (vaira) - enmity; अनुसारिणौ (anusāriṇau) - following; तयोः (tayoḥ) - of the two; एकतरः (ekataraḥ) - one; श्रीमान् (śrīmān) - glorious; समुपैति (samupaiti) - approaches; महागजः (mahāgajaḥ) - great elephant;]
(In this lake, two great-bodied ones, following former enmity, one of the two, the glorious one, approaches, the great elephant.)
In this lake, two mighty beings, driven by past enmity, one of them, the illustrious one, approaches, the great elephant.
तस्य बृंहितशब्देन कूर्मोऽप्यन्तर्जलेशयः। उत्थितोऽसौ महाकायः कृत्स्नं सङ्क्षोभयन्सरः ॥१-२५-२१॥
tasya bṛṃhitaśabdena kūrmo'pyantarjaleśayaḥ। utthito'sau mahākāyaḥ kṛtsnaṃ saṅkṣobhayan saraḥ ॥1-25-21॥

(By his roaring sound, the tortoise, also lying in the water, arose; that huge-bodied one, agitating the entire lake.)
The tortoise, disturbed by the roaring sound, emerged from the water. It was massive and caused the entire lake to tremble.
तं दृष्ट्वावेष्टितकरः पतत्येष गजो जलम्। दन्तहस्ताग्रलाङ्गूलपादवेगेन वीर्यवान् ॥१-२५-२२॥
taṃ dṛṣṭvāveṣṭitakaraḥ patatyeṣa gajo jalam। dantahastāgralāṅgūlapādavegena vīryavān ॥1-25-22॥
[तं (taṃ) - him; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; आवेष्टितकरः (āveṣṭitakaraḥ) - with coiled trunk; पतति (patati) - falls; एषः (eṣaḥ) - this; गजः (gajaḥ) - elephant; जलम् (jalam) - water; दन्त (danta) - tusk; हस्त (hasta) - hand; अग्र (agra) - tip; लाङ्गूल (lāṅgūla) - tail; पाद (pāda) - foot; वेगेन (vegena) - with speed; वीर्यवान् (vīryavān) - powerful;]
(Having seen him, this elephant with a coiled trunk falls into the water with the speed of its tusk, hand, tip, tail, and foot, being powerful.)
Upon seeing him, the powerful elephant, with its trunk coiled, swiftly falls into the water, propelled by the force of its tusks, trunk, tail, and feet.
तं विक्षोभयमाणं तु सरो बहुझषाकुलम्। कूर्मोऽप्यभ्युद्यतशिरा युद्धायाभ्येति वीर्यवान् ॥१-२५-२३॥
taṁ vikṣobhayamāṇaṁ tu saro bahujaṣākulam। kūrmo'pyabhyudyataśirā yuddhāyābhyeti vīryavān ॥1-25-23॥

षडुच्छ्रितो योजनानि गजस्तद्द्विगुणायतः। कूर्मस्त्रियोजनोत्सेधो दशयोजनमण्डलः ॥१-२५-२४॥
ṣaḍucchrito yojanāni gajastaddviguṇāyataḥ। kūrmastiryojanotsedho daśayojanamaṇḍalaḥ ॥1-25-24॥
[षट् (ṣaṭ) - six; उच्छ्रितः (ucchritaḥ) - elevated; योजनानि (yojanāni) - leagues; गजः (gajaḥ) - elephant; तत् (tat) - that; द्विगुण (dviguṇa) - double; आयतः (āyataḥ) - extended; कूर्मः (kūrmaḥ) - tortoise; त्रि (tri) - three; योजन (yojana) - leagues; उत्सेधः (utsedhaḥ) - height; दश (daśa) - ten; योजन (yojana) - leagues; मण्डलः (maṇḍalaḥ) - circle;]
(The elephant is elevated six leagues, and its length is double that. The tortoise has a height of three leagues and a circle of ten leagues.)

तावेतौ युद्धसंमत्तौ परस्परजयैषिणौ। उपयुज्याशु कर्मेदं साधयेप्सितमात्मनः ॥१-२५-२५॥
tāvetau yuddhasaṁmattau parasparajayaiṣiṇau। upayujyāśu karmedaṁ sādhayepsitamātmanaḥ ॥1-25-25॥
[तौ (tau) - those two; एतौ (etau) - these two; युद्ध (yuddha) - battle; संमत्तौ (saṁmattau) - engaged in; परस्पर (paraspara) - each other; जय (jaya) - victory; ऐषिणौ (aiṣiṇau) - desiring; उपयुज्य (upayujya) - using; आशु (āśu) - quickly; कर्म (karma) - action; इदं (idaṁ) - this; साधय (sādhaya) - accomplish; इप्सितम् (ipsitam) - desired; आत्मनः (ātmanaḥ) - of oneself;]
(Those two, engaged in battle, desiring victory over each other, using this action quickly, accomplish the desired of oneself.)
Those two, eager for victory over each other, are engaged in battle. By quickly using this action, they accomplish their own desired goals.

(He, having heard those words of his father, with terrible speed, the sky-goer, threw one elephant with a nail and one tortoise.)
Upon hearing his father's words, he, with immense speed, soared through the sky and hurled an elephant with one nail and a tortoise with another.
समुत्पपात चाकाशं तत उच्चैर्विहङ्गमः। सोऽलम्बतीर्थमासाद्य देववृक्षानुपागमत् ॥१-२५-२७॥
samutpapāta cākāśaṃ tata uccairvihaṅgamaḥ। so' lambatīrtham āsādya devavṛkṣānupāgamat ॥1-25-27॥
[समुत्पपात (samutpapāta) - rose; च (ca) - and; आकाशं (ākāśaṃ) - sky; तत (tata) - then; उच्चैः (uccaiḥ) - high; विहङ्गमः (vihaṅgamaḥ) - bird; सः (saḥ) - he; अलम्बतीर्थम् (alambatīrtham) - Alambatirtha; आसाद्य (āsādya) - reaching; देववृक्षान् (devavṛkṣān) - sacred trees; उपागमत् (upāgamat) - approached;]
(The bird rose to the sky and then, reaching Alambatirtha, approached the sacred trees.)
The bird soared into the sky and then, upon reaching Alambatirtha, came near the sacred trees.
ते भीताः समकम्पन्त तस्य पक्षानिलाहताः। न नो भञ्ज्यादिति तदा दिव्याः कनकशाखिनः ॥१-२५-२८॥
te bhītāḥ samakampanta tasya pakṣānilāhatāḥ। na no bhañjyāditi tadā divyāḥ kanakaśākhinaḥ ॥1-25-28॥

(They, frightened, trembled, struck by the wind of his wings. "May he not break us," thus then the divine golden branches.)

(Having seen those moving limbs and desires' fruit sprouts, the celestial being approached others with incomparable forms.)
The celestial being, upon observing those moving limbs and the sprouts of desires' fruits, approached others who had incomparable forms.
काञ्चनै राजतैश्चैव फलैर्वैडूर्यशाखिनः। सागराम्बुपरिक्षिप्तान्भ्राजमानान्महाद्रुमान् ॥१-२५-३०॥
kāñcanai rājataiścaiva phalairvaiḍūryaśākhinaḥ। sāgarāmbuparikṣiptānbhrājamānānmahādrumān ॥1-25-30॥
[काञ्चनै (kāñcanai) - with gold; राजतैः (rājataiḥ) - with silver; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; फलैः (phalaiḥ) - with fruits; वैडूर्य (vaiḍūrya) - cat's eye gems; शाखिनः (śākhinaḥ) - branches; सागर (sāgara) - ocean; अम्बु (ambu) - water; परिक्षिप्तान् (parikṣiptān) - surrounded; भ्राजमानान् (bhrājamānān) - shining; महाद्रुमान् (mahādrumān) - great trees;]
(Great trees with branches of cat's eye gems, fruits, gold, and silver, surrounded by ocean water, shining.)

तमुवाच खगश्रेष्ठं तत्र रोहिणपादपः। अतिप्रवृद्धः सुमहानापतन्तं मनोजवम् ॥१-२५-३१॥
tamuvāca khagaśreṣṭhaṃ tatra rohiṇapādapaḥ। atipravṛddhaḥ sumahānāpatantaṃ manojavam ॥1-25-31॥
[तम् (tam) - him; उवाच (uvāca) - said; खगश्रेष्ठम् (khagaśreṣṭham) - bird-chief; तत्र (tatra) - there; रोहिणपादपः (rohiṇapādapaḥ) - Rohini tree; अतिप्रवृद्धः (atipravṛddhaḥ) - very grown; सुमहान् (sumahān) - very great; आपतन्तम् (āpatantam) - approaching; मनोजवम् (manojavam) - swift as the mind;]
(The Rohini tree, very grown and very great, said to the bird-chief approaching swiftly as the mind, there.)
The great Rohini tree, towering and immense, addressed the chief of birds who was approaching with the speed of thought, at that place.
यैषा मम महाशाखा शतयोजनमायता। एतामास्थाय शाखां त्वं खादेमौ गजकच्छपौ ॥१-२५-३२॥
yaiṣā mama mahāśākhā śatayojanamāyatā। etāmāsthāya śākhāṃ tvaṃ khādemau gajakacchapau ॥1-25-32॥
[यैषा (yaiṣā) - this; मम (mama) - my; महाशाखा (mahāśākhā) - great branch; शतयोजनमायता (śatayojanamāyatā) - hundred yojanas long; एताम् (etām) - this; आस्थाय (āsthāya) - having resorted; शाखाम् (śākhām) - branch; त्वम् (tvam) - you; खाद (khāda) - eat; इमौ (imau) - these two; गजकच्छपौ (gajakacchapau) - elephant and tortoise;]
(This great branch of mine is a hundred yojanas long. Resorting to this branch, you eat these two, the elephant and the tortoise.)

tato drumaṃ patagasahasrasevitaṃ; mahīdharapratimavapuḥ prakampayan। khagottamo drutamabhipatya vegavā; nbabhañja tāmaviralapatrasaṃvṛtām ॥1-25-33॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; द्रुमम् (drumam) - tree; पतगसहस्रसेवितम् (patagasahasrasevitam) - attended by thousands of birds; महीधरप्रतिमवपुः (mahīdharapratimavapuḥ) - with a form like a mountain; प्रकम्पयन् (prakampayan) - shaking; खगोत्तमः (khagottamaḥ) - the best of birds; द्रुतम् (drutam) - swiftly; अभिपत्य (abhipatya) - approaching; वेगवान् (vegavān) - with speed; बभञ्ज (babhañja) - broke; ताम् (tām) - that; अविरलपत्रसंवृताम् (aviralapatrasaṃvṛtām) - covered with sparse leaves;]
(Then, the tree attended by thousands of birds, with a form like a mountain, shaking, the best of birds swiftly approaching with speed, broke that covered with sparse leaves.)
Then, the best of birds, resembling a mountain and attended by thousands of birds, swiftly approached and shook the tree, breaking its sparsely leafed branches.
