Library: Vasuki keeps a special vigil on sister Jaratkaru to ensure Brahma’s words come true.
Sūta said:
Upon hearing the words of Elapatra, all the serpents, delighted in mind, praised saying 'Well done, well done', O best of the twice-born.
From that time onwards, Vasuki took care of the girl, Jaratkaru, his sister, and was filled with immense joy.
Then, it seemed as if not much time had passed. After that, all the gods and demons churned the ocean, the abode of Varuna.
In that place, Vāsuki, the serpent and the best among the strong, became an eye. After completing the task, they went to the grandfather.
The gods, along with Vāsuki, approached the grandfather and said, "O Lord, Vāsuki is greatly troubled by the curse."
O divine one, you should remove this mental anguish of his, which is born from the mother's curse, as you wish for the well-being of the relatives.
This king of the city is indeed always beneficial and pleasing to us. O lord of the gods, please grant your favor and pacify his mental distress.
Brahma spoke:
This message was indeed conveyed by me through the mind to the immortals; it was previously spoken by the serpent Elapatra.
Let the king of serpents speak at the right time. The sinners will perish, but the righteous will not.
Jaratkaru, a brahmin, was born and engaged in severe penance. In due time, his sister should be given to him.
When Ilapatra spoke, the serpent indeed conveyed the welfare of the serpents to the gods, and it was not otherwise.
Sūta said:
Upon hearing this, the king of serpents, in accordance with the grandfather's words, assigned many serpents, who were always engaged, to Jaratkaru.
When Jaratkaru desires to marry, the master should quickly come and tell my story; that will ensure our welfare.
