dhṛṣṭadyumna uvāca॥
Dhṛṣṭadyumna said.
duryodhanaḥ durviṣahaḥ durmukho duṣpradharṣaṇaḥ। viviṃśatir vikarṇaś ca saho duḥśāsanaḥ samaḥ ॥1-177-1॥
Duryodhana, who is invincible, ill-natured, and difficult to assault; Viviṃśati, Vikarṇa, and Duḥśāsana, all of them equal.
yuyutsur vātavegaś ca bhīmavegadharās tathā। ugrāyudho balākī ca kanakāyur virocanaḥ ॥1-177-2॥
Yuyutsu, swift as the wind, and Bhīmavegadhara, equally powerful; Ugrāyudha, Balākī, Kanakāyu, and Virocana, all fierce warriors, were present.
sukuṇḍalaś citrasenaḥ suvarcāḥ kanakadhvajaḥ। nandako bāhuśālī ca kuṇḍajo vikaṭas tathā ॥1-177-3॥
Sukuṇḍala, Citrasena, Suvarcā, Kanakadhvaja, Nandaka, the strong-armed one, and also Kuṇḍaja and Vikaṭa likewise.
ete cānye ca bahavo dhārtarāṣṭrā mahābalāḥ। karṇena sahitā vīrāstvadarthaṃ samupāgatāḥ॥ śatasaṅkhyā mahātmānaḥ prathitāḥ kṣatriyarṣabhāḥ॥1-177-4॥
These, along with many other powerful sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, together with Karṇa, have assembled as heroes for your sake. They are hundreds in number, great-souled, renowned, and the foremost among Kṣatriyas.
śakuniś ca balaś caiva vṛṣako 'tha bṛhadbalaḥ। ete gāndhārarājasya sutāḥ sarve samāgatāḥ॥1-177-5॥
Śakuni, Bala, Vṛṣaka, and Bṛhadbala—all these sons of the king of Gandhara have assembled here.
aśvatthāmā ca bhojaś ca sarvaśastrabhṛtāṃ varau। samavetau mahātmānau tvadarthe samalaṅkṛtau ॥1-177-6॥
Aśvatthāman and Bhoja, the foremost among all weapon-bearers, both great-souled and assembled, are well-adorned for your sake.
bṛhanto maṇimāṃścaiva daṇḍadhāraśca vīryavān। sahadevo jayatseno meghasandhiśca māgadhaḥ ॥1-177-7॥
The great warriors, Maṇimān, Daṇḍadhāra the powerful, Sahadeva, Jayatsena, Meghasandhi, and the king of Magadha are present.
virāṭaḥ saha putrābhyāṃ śaṅkhenaiva uttareṇa ca। vārdhakṣemiḥ suvarcāś ca senābinduś ca pārthivaḥ॥1-177-8॥
King Virāṭa, together with his two sons Śaṅkha and Uttara, as well as the kings Vārdhakṣemi, Suvarcā, and Senābindu.
abhibhūḥ saha putreṇa sudāmnā ca suvarcasā। sumitraḥ sukumāraśca vṛkaḥ satyadhṛtistathā ॥1-177-9॥
Abhibhū, together with his son Sudāmnā and Suvarcasā; Sumitra, Sukumāra, Vṛka, and Satyadhṛti were also there.
sūryadhvajo rocamāno nīlaś citrāyudhas tathā। aṃśumāṃś cekitānaś ca śreṇimāṃś ca mahābalaḥ ॥1-177-10॥
The sun-bannered, the shining one, Nīla, and the one with varied weapons; likewise, Aṃśumān, Cekitāna, and Śreṇimān, all of great strength.
samudrasenaputraśca candrasenaḥ pratāpavān। jalasandhaḥ pitāputrau sudaṇḍo daṇḍa eva ca ॥1-177-11॥
Samudrasena's son and the valiant Candrasena; Jalasandha, the father and son, Sudaṇḍa, and Daṇḍa as well.
pauṇḍrako vāsudevaś ca bhagadattaś ca vīryavān। kaliṅgas tāmraliptaś ca pattanādhipatis tathā ॥1-177-12॥
Pauṇḍraka, Vāsudeva, Bhagadatta, the powerful one, the king of Kaliṅga, the lord of Tāmralipta, and the city lord likewise (were present).
madrarājastathā śalyaḥ sahaputro mahārathaḥ। rukmāṅgadena vīreṇa tathā rukmarathena ca ॥1-177-13॥
The king of Madra, Śalya, together with his son, the great chariot-warrior, was accompanied by the heroic Rukmāṅgada and also by Rukmaratha.
kauravyaḥ somadattaś ca putrāś cāsya mahārathāḥ। samavetās trayaḥ śūrā bhūrir bhūriśravāḥ śalaḥ ॥1-177-14॥
The Kaurava, Somadatta, and his sons, all great chariot-warriors, together with the three valiant heroes—Bhūri, Bhūriśravā, and Śala—were assembled.
sudakṣiṇaś ca kāmbojo dṛḍhadhanvā ca kauravaḥ। bṛhadbalaḥ suṣeṇaś ca śibirauśīnaras tathā ॥1-177-15॥
Sudakṣiṇa, Kāmboja, Dṛḍhadhanvan, Kaurava, Bṛhadbala, Suṣeṇa, the two Śibiras, and Uśīnara were also present.
saṅkarṣaṇo vāsudevo raukmiṇeyaś ca vīryavān। sāmbaś ca cārudeṣṇaś ca sāraṇo 'tha gadaś tathā ॥1-177-16॥
Saṅkarṣaṇa (Balarāma), Vāsudeva (Kṛṣṇa), Pradyumna (son of Rukmiṇī), Sāmba, Cārudeṣṇa, Sāraṇa, and Gada—all powerful—were present.
akrūraḥ sātyakiścaiva uddhavaśca mahābalaḥ। kṛtavarmā ca hārdikyaḥ pṛthurvipṛthureva ca ॥1-177-17॥
Akrura, Satyaki, Uddhava, the mighty Kritavarma, the son of Hṛdika, Prithu, and Viprithu were also there.
viḍūrathaś ca kaṅkaś ca samīkaḥ sāramejayaḥ। vīro vātapatiś caiva jhillī piṇḍārakas tathā॥ uśīnaraś ca vikrānto vṛṣṇayas te prakīrtitāḥ॥1-177-18॥
Viḍūratha, Kaṅka, Samīka, Sāramejaya, the heroic Vātapati, Jhillī, Piṇḍāraka, Uśīnara, and the valiant Vṛṣṇis are all mentioned here.
bhagīratho bṛhatkṣatraḥ saindhavaś ca jayadrathaḥ। bṛhadratho bāhlikaś ca śrutāyuś ca mahārathaḥ॥1-177-19॥
Bhagīratha, Bṛhatkṣatra, Saindhava, Jayadratha, Bṛhadratha, Bāhlika, and Śrutāyu were all great chariot-warriors.
ulūkaḥ kaitavo rājā citrāṅgadaśubhāṅgadau। vatsarājaśca dhṛtimān kosalādhipatis tathā ॥1-177-20॥
Ulūka, Kaitava, the king, Citrāṅgada and Śubhāṅgada, Vatsarāja, and the steadfast lord of Kosala were also present.
ete cānye ca bahavo nānājanapadeśvarāḥ। tvadarthamāgatā bhadre kṣatriyāḥ prathitā bhuvi ॥1-177-21॥
O auspicious one, these and many other renowned kṣatriyas, lords of various regions, have come here for your sake.
ete vetsyanti vikrāntās tvad-arthaṃ lakṣyam uttamam। vidhyeta ya imaṃ lakṣyaṃ varayethāḥ śubhe'dya tam ॥1-177-22॥
These brave men will recognize the supreme target for your sake. O auspicious one, today you should choose as your husband the one who pierces this target.
