Core-Pancharatra: Draupadi weds Pandavas.
द्रुपद उवाच॥
Drupada said.
अश्रुत्वैवं वचनं ते महर्षे; मया पूर्वं यतितं कार्यमेतत्। न वै शक्यं विहितस्यापयातुं; तदेवेदमुपपन्नं विधानम् ॥१-१९०-१॥
O great sage, without having heard your words, I had already undertaken this action. What is ordained cannot be undone; therefore, this arrangement has come to pass.
दिष्टस्य ग्रन्थिरनिवर्तनीयः; स्वकर्मणा विहितं नेह किञ्चित्। कृतं निमित्तं हि वरैकहेतो; स्तदेवेदमुपपन्नं बहूनाम् ॥१-१९०-२॥
The knot of destiny cannot be undone; nothing here happens except what is ordained by one's own actions. Indeed, whatever is done for the sake of the highest cause is alone appropriate for many.
यथैव कृष्णोक्तवती पुरस्ता; न्नैकान्पतीन्मे भगवान्ददातु। स चाप्येवं वरमित्यब्रवीत्तां; देवो हि वेद परमं यदत्र ॥१-१९०-३॥
Just as Kṛṣṇa had spoken before, may the Lord not grant me only one husband. And he also said to her, "This boon is granted," for the god indeed knows the highest truth here.
यदि वायं विहितः शङ्करेण; धर्मोऽधर्मो वा नात्र ममापराधः। गृह्णन्त्विमे विधिवत्पाणिमस्या; यथोपजोषं विहितैषां हि कृष्णा ॥१-१९०-४॥
If this has been ordained by Śaṅkara, whether it is right or wrong, I am not at fault here. Let these men take Kṛṣṇā's hand according to the prescribed rules, as is proper and with the consent of those appointed.
वैशम्पायन उवाच॥
Vaiśampāyana said.
ततोऽब्रवीद्भगवान्धर्मराज; मद्य पुण्याहमुत पाण्डवेय। अद्य पौष्यं योगमुपैति चन्द्रमाः; पाणिं कृष्णायास्त्वं गृहाणाद्य पूर्वम् ॥१-१९०-५॥
Then Dharmarāja said: "Today is an auspicious day, O son of Pāṇḍu. Today the moon attains the Pauṣya conjunction; therefore, you should accept Kṛṣṇā's hand today before anyone else."
ततो राजा यज्ञसेनः सपुत्रो; जन्यार्थ युक्तं बहु तत्तदग्र्यम्। समानयामास सुतां च कृष्णा; माप्लाव्य रत्नैर्बहुभिर्विभूष्य ॥१-१९०-६॥
Then King Yajñasena, along with his son, gathered many excellent things suitable for the people, and adorned his daughter Kṛṣṇā with many jewels from Māplavya.
ततः सर्वे सुहृदस्तत्र तस्य; समाजग्मुः सचिवा मन्त्रिणश्च। द्रष्टुं विवाहं परमप्रतीता; द्विजाश्च पौराश्च यथाप्रधानाः ॥१-१९०-७॥
Then all his friends, ministers, and counselors gathered there; the twice-born and the citizens, each according to their rank, came with great faith to witness the marriage.
तत्तस्य वेश्मार्थिजनोपशोभितं; विकीर्णपद्मोत्पलभूषिताजिरम्। महार्हरत्नौघविचित्रमाबभौ; दिवं यथा निर्मलतारकाचितम् ॥१-१९०-८॥
That palace of his, adorned by petitioners and with a courtyard decorated with scattered lotuses and water-lilies, shone with the brilliance of many precious gems, just like the clear sky adorned with stars.
ततस्तु ते कौरवराजपुत्रा; विभूषिताः कुण्डलिनो युवानः। महार्हवस्त्रा वरचन्दनोक्षिताः; कृताभिषेकाः कृतमङ्गलक्रियाः ॥१-१९०-९॥
Then those sons of the Kaurava king, adorned and wearing earrings, young and dressed in costly garments, anointed with fine sandalwood paste, having completed their consecration and auspicious rites.
पुरोहितेनाग्निसमानवर्चसा; सहैव धौम्येन यथाविधि प्रभो। क्रमेण सर्वे विविशुश्च तत्सदो; महर्षभा गोष्ठमिवाभिनन्दिनः ॥१-१९०-१०॥
Accompanied by the priest, whose brilliance was equal to Agni, and by Dhaumya, all of them, following the prescribed rules, O lord, entered the assembly in order, rejoicing like great bulls entering a cowshed.
ततः समाधाय स वेदपारगो; जुहाव मन्त्रैर्ज्वलितं हुताशनम्। युधिष्ठिरं चाप्युपनीय मन्त्रवि; न्नियोजयामास सहैव कृष्णया ॥१-१९०-११॥
Then, the Veda-knower, after preparing the ritual, offered oblations with mantras into the blazing fire. He brought Yudhishthira and Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī) near and engaged them in the rite.
प्रदक्षिणं तौ प्रगृहीतपाणी; समानयामास स वेदपारगः। ततोऽभ्यनुज्ञाय तमाजिशोभिनं; पुरोहितो राजगृहाद्विनिर्ययौ ॥१-१९०-१२॥
He, the knower of the Vedas, caused those two with joined hands to perform circumambulation. Then, having permitted him who shone in the sacrificial hall, the priest departed from the king's house.
क्रमेण चानेन नराधिपात्मजा; वरस्त्रियास्ते जगृहुस्तदा करम्। अहन्यहन्युत्तमरूपधारिणो; महारथाः कौरववंशवर्धनाः ॥१-१९०-१३॥
In succession, by this, the sons of kings accepted the hands of those noble women. Day by day, the great chariot-warriors, who enhanced the Kaurava lineage and possessed excellent form, did so.
इदं च तत्राद्भुतरूपमुत्तमं; जगाद विप्रर्षिरतीतमानुषम्। महानुभावा किल सा सुमध्यमा; बभूव कन्यैव गते गतेऽहनि ॥१-१९०-१४॥
The Brāhmaṇa sage spoke there of this excellent and wonderful form, surpassing human. Indeed, that slender-waisted, great-souled maiden became a maiden as each day passed.
कृते विवाहे द्रुपदो धनं ददौ; महारथेभ्यो बहुरूपमुत्तमम्। शतं रथानां वरहेमभूषिणां; चतुर्युजां हेमखलीनमालिनाम् ॥१-१९०-१५॥
When the marriage was completed, Drupada gave excellent and various kinds of wealth to the great charioteers: a hundred chariots adorned with the finest gold, each drawn by four horses and decorated with golden bridle garlands.
शतं गजानामभिपद्मिनां तथा; शतं गिरीणामिव हेमशृङ्गिणाम्। तथैव दासीशतमग्र्ययौवनं; महार्हवेषाभरणाम्बरस्रजम् ॥१-१९०-१६॥
There were a hundred elephants adorned with lotuses, a hundred mountains with golden peaks, and likewise a hundred maidservants in the prime of youth, all adorned with costly attire, ornaments, garments, and garlands.
पृथक्पृथक्चैव दशायुतान्वितं; धनं ददौ सौमकिरग्निसाक्षिकम्। तथैव वस्त्राणि च भूषणानि; प्रभावयुक्तानि महाधनानि ॥१-१९०-१७॥
Saumaki gave, in the presence of fire as witness, wealth amounting to ten thousand separately and individually. Likewise, he gave garments and ornaments of great value and splendor.
कृते विवाहे च ततः स्म पाण्डवाः; प्रभूतरत्नामुपलभ्य तां श्रियम्। विजह्रुरिन्द्रप्रतिमा महाबलाः; पुरे तु पाञ्चालनृपस्य तस्य ह ॥१-१९०-१८॥
After the marriage was performed, the Pāṇḍavas, having gained that wealth full of jewels, enjoyed their prosperity like Indra, those mighty ones, in the city of the king of the Pāñcālas.
