युधिष्ठिर सभा दिव्या वरुणस्य सितप्रभा। प्रमाणेन यथा याम्या शुभप्राकारतोरणा ॥२-९-१॥
yudhiṣṭhira sabhā divyā varuṇasya sitaprabhaā। pramāṇena yathā yāmyā śubhaprākāratoraṇā ॥2-9-1॥

अन्तःसलिलमास्थाय विहिता विश्वकर्मणा। दिव्यरत्नमयैर्वृक्षैः फलपुष्पप्रदैर्युता ॥२-९-२॥
antaḥ-salilam-āsthāya vihitā viśvakarmaṇā। divya-ratnamayair-vṛkṣaiḥ phala-puṣpa-pradair-yutā ॥2-9-2॥
[अन्तः (antaḥ) - within; inside; सलिलम् (salilam) - water; आस्थाय (āsthāya) - having resorted to; having taken to; विहिता (vihitā) - constructed; established; विश्वकर्मणा (viśvakarmaṇā) - by Viśvakarman; by the divine architect; दिव्य (divya) - divine; रत्नमयैः (ratnamayaiḥ) - made of jewels; वृक्षैः (vṛkṣaiḥ) - with trees; फल (phala) - fruit; पुष्प (puṣpa) - flower; प्रदैः (pradair) - bestowing; giving; युता (yutā) - endowed; furnished;]
(Having resorted to the water within, constructed by Viśvakarman, endowed with divine jewel-made trees, furnished with fruit and flower bestowing (trees).)
Having entered the waters within, (there was a structure) constructed by Viśvakarman, adorned with divine jewel trees, and filled with trees that bore fruit and flowers. (2-9-2)
नीलपीतासितश्यामैः सितैर्लोहितकैरपि। अवतानैस्तथा गुल्मैः पुष्पमञ्जरिधारिभिः ॥२-९-३॥
nīlapītāsitaśyāmaiḥ sitairlohitakairapi। avatānaistathā gulmaiḥ puṣpamañjaridhāribhiḥ ॥2-9-3॥
[नील (nīla) - dark-blue; पीत (pīta) - yellow; सित (sita) - white; श्यामैः (śyāmaiḥ) - dark; सितैः (sitaiḥ) - with white; लोहितकैः (lohitakaiḥ) - with red; अपि (api) - also; अवतानैः (avatānaiḥ) - with drooping; तथा (tathā) - also; गुल्मैः (gulmaiḥ) - with bushes; पुष्पमञ्जरिधारिभिः (puṣpamañjaridhāribhiḥ) - bearing clusters of flowers;]
(With dark-blue, yellow, white, and dark ones, also with white and red ones, also with drooping, with bushes, bearing clusters of flowers.)
There were bushes of various kinds—dark-blue, yellow, white, dark, white, and red—some drooping, all bearing clusters of flowers. (2-9-3)
तथा शकुनयस्तस्यां नानारूपा मृदुस्वराः। अनिर्देश्या वपुष्मन्तः शतशोऽथ सहस्रशः ॥२-९-४॥
tathā śakunayas tasyāṃ nānā-rūpā mṛdu-svarāḥ। anirdeśyā vapuṣmantaḥ śataśo'tha sahasraśaḥ ॥2-9-4॥
[तथा (tathā) - thus; in that manner; शकुनयः (śakunayaḥ) - birds; तस्याम् (tasyām) - in that (place); नानारूपाः (nānārūpāḥ) - of various forms; मृदुस्वराः (mṛdusvarāḥ) - soft-voiced; अनिर्देश्याः (anirdeśyāḥ) - indescribable; वपुष्मन्तः (vapuṣmantaḥ) - possessing forms; शतशः (śataśaḥ) - by hundreds; अथ (atha) - and; then; सहस्रशः (sahasraśaḥ) - by thousands;]
(Thus, birds in that (place), of various forms, soft-voiced, indescribable, possessing forms, by hundreds and by thousands.)
In that place, there were birds of many kinds and forms, with soft voices, indescribable in appearance, numbering in the hundreds and thousands. (2-9-4)
सा सभा सुखसंस्पर्शा न शीता न च घर्मदा। वेश्मासनवती रम्या सिता वरुणपालिता ॥२-९-५॥
sā sabhā sukhasaṃsparśā na śītā na ca gharmadā। veśmāsanavatī ramyā sitā varuṇapālitā ॥2-9-5॥

(That assembly hall, having contact with comfort, is neither cold nor hot; having mansions and seats, beautiful, bright, protected by Varuṇa.)
That assembly hall, pleasant to the touch, is neither cold nor hot; it is adorned with mansions and seats, delightful, bright, and protected by Varuṇa. (2-9-5)
यस्यामास्ते स वरुणो वारुण्या सह भारत। दिव्यरत्नाम्बरधरो भूषणैरुपशोभितः ॥२-९-६॥
yasyām āste sa varuṇo vāruṇyā saha bhārata। divya-ratnāmbaradharo bhūṣaṇair upaśobhitaḥ ॥2-9-6॥

स्रग्विणो भूषिताश्चापि दिव्यमाल्यानुकर्षिणः। आदित्यास्तत्र वरुणं जलेश्वरमुपासते ॥२-९-७॥
sragviṇo bhūṣitāś cāpi divyamālyānukarṣiṇaḥ। ādityās tatra varuṇaṃ jaleśvaram upāsate ॥2-9-7॥

वासुकिस्तक्षकश्चैव नागश्चैरावतस्तथा। कृष्णश्च लोहितश्चैव पद्मश्चित्रश्च वीर्यवान् ॥२-९-८॥
vāsukis takṣakaś caiva nāgaś cairāvatas tathā। kṛṣṇaś ca lohitaś caiva padmaś citraś ca vīryavān ॥2-9-8॥

कम्बलाश्वतरौ नागौ धृतराष्ट्रबलाहकौ। मणिमान्कुण्डलधरः कर्कोटकधनञ्जयौ ॥२-९-९॥

sragviṇo maulinaḥ sarve tathā divyaparicchadāḥ। sarve labdhavarāḥ śūrāḥ sarve vigatamṛtyavaḥ ॥2-9-16॥
[स्रग्विणः (sragviṇaḥ) - wearing garlands; मौलिनः (maulinaḥ) - with crowns on their heads; सर्वे (sarve) - all; तथा (tathā) - likewise; दिव्यपरिच्छदाः (divyaparicchadāḥ) - having divine ornaments; सर्वे (sarve) - all; लब्धवराः (labdhavarāḥ) - having obtained boons; शूराः (śūrāḥ) - valiant; सर्वे (sarve) - all; विगतमृत्यवः (vigatamṛtyavaḥ) - free from death;]
(Wearing garlands, with crowns on their heads, all likewise having divine ornaments, all having obtained boons, valiant, all free from death.)

ते तस्यां वरुणं देवं धर्मपाशस्थिताः सदा। उपासते महात्मानं सर्वे सुचरितव्रताः ॥२-९-१७॥
te tasyāṃ varuṇaṃ devaṃ dharmapāśasthitāḥ sadā। upāsate mahātmānaṃ sarve sucaritavratāḥ ॥2-9-17॥
[ते (te) - they; तस्यां (tasyām) - in that (place/her); वरुणं (varuṇam) - Varuṇa (the deity); देवं (devam) - god; धर्मपाशस्थिताः (dharmapāśasthitāḥ) - bound by the noose of dharma; सदा (sadā) - always; उपासते (upāsate) - worship; महात्मानं (mahātmānam) - the great-souled one; सर्वे (sarve) - all; सुचरितव्रताः (sucarita-vratāḥ) - of good conduct and vows;]
(They, in that (place), always worship Varuṇa, the god, bound by the noose of dharma, all (being) of good conduct and vows, the great-souled one.)
There, all those of good conduct and vows always worship the great-souled god Varuṇa, who is bound by the noose of dharma. (2-9-17)
तथा समुद्राश्चत्वारो नदी भागीरथी च या। कालिन्दी विदिशा वेण्णा नर्मदा वेगवाहिनी ॥२-९-१८॥
tathā samudrāś catvāro nadī bhāgīrathī ca yā। kālindī vidiśā veṇṇā narmadā vegavāhinī ॥2-9-18॥
[तथा (tathā) - thus; समुद्राः (samudrāḥ) - oceans; चत्वारः (catvāraḥ) - four; नदी (nadī) - river; भागीरथी (bhāgīrathī) - Bhagirathi (Ganga); च (ca) - and; या (yā) - which; कालिन्दी (kālindī) - Kalindi (Yamuna); विदिशा (vidiśā) - Vidiśā; वेण्णा (veṇṇā) - Veṇṇā; नर्मदा (narmadā) - Narmadā; वेगवाहिनी (vegavāhinī) - swift-flowing;]

कूपाश्च सप्रस्रवणा देहवन्तो युधिष्ठिर। पल्वलानि तडागानि देहवन्त्यथ भारत ॥२-९-२१॥
kūpāś ca saprasravaṇā dehavanto yudhiṣṭhira। palvalāni taḍāgāni dehavanty atha bhārata ॥2-9-21॥
[कूपाः (kūpāḥ) - wells; च (ca) - and; सप्रस्रवणाः (saprasravaṇāḥ) - with springs; देहवन्तः (dehavantaḥ) - having bodies (inhabited); युधिष्ठिर (yudhiṣṭhira) - Yudhiṣṭhira; पल्वलानि (palvalāni) - marshes; तडागानि (taḍāgāni) - ponds; देहवन्ति (dehavanti) - having bodies (inhabited); अथ (atha) - then; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata;]

O Yudhiṣṭhira, there are wells with springs and inhabited places; there are also marshes and ponds that are inhabited, O Bhārata. (2-9-21)
दिशस्तथा मही चैव तथा सर्वे महीधराः। उपासते महात्मानं सर्वे जलचरास्तथा ॥२-९-२२॥
diśas tathā mahī caiva tathā sarve mahīdharāḥ। upāsate mahātmānaṃ sarve jalacarās tathā ॥2-9-22॥

(Directions likewise, earth indeed, also all mountains; worship the great-souled one, all aquatic beings likewise.)
In the same way, the directions, the earth, all the mountains, and all aquatic beings worship the great-souled one. (2-9-22)
गीतवादित्रवन्तश्च गन्धर्वाप्सरसां गणाः। स्तुवन्तो वरुणं तस्यां सर्व एव समासते ॥२-९-२३॥
gītavāditravantaś ca gandharvāpsarasāṃ gaṇāḥ। stuvanto varuṇaṃ tasyāṃ sarva eva samāsate ॥2-9-23॥

महीधरा रत्नवन्तो रसा येषु प्रतिष्ठिताः। सर्वे विग्रहवन्तस्ते तमीश्वरमुपासते ॥२-९-२४॥
mahī-dharā ratnavanto rasā yeṣu pratiṣṭhitāḥ। sarve vigrahavantaste tam īśvaram upāsate ॥2-9-24॥
[महीधरा (mahī-dharā) - earth-bearers; (mountains;) रत्नवन्तः (ratnavantaḥ) - possessing jewels; रसा (rasāḥ) - essences; (juices;) येषु (yeṣu) - in whom; प्रतिष्ठिताः (pratiṣṭhitāḥ) - are established; सर्वे (sarve) - all; विग्रहवन्तः (vigrahavantaḥ) - having forms; ते (te) - they; तम् (tam) - him; ईश्वरम् (īśvaram) - the Lord; उपासते (upāsate) - worship;]
(Earth-bearers possessing jewels, essences are established in whom; all those having forms worship him, the Lord.)
All the mountains that possess jewels and in whom the essences are established, all those with forms worship that Lord. (2-9-24)
एषा मया सम्पतता वारुणी भरतर्षभ। दृष्टपूर्वा सभा रम्या कुबेरस्य सभां शृणु ॥२-९-२५॥
eṣā mayā sampatatā vāruṇī bharatarṣabha। dṛṣṭapūrvā sabhā ramyā kuberasya sabhāṃ śṛṇu ॥2-9-25॥
