कथयिष्ये सभां दिव्यां युधिष्ठिर निबोध ताम्। वैवस्वतस्य यामर्थे विश्वकर्मा चकार ह ॥२-८-१॥
kathayiṣye sabhāṃ divyāṃ yudhiṣṭhira nibodha tām। vaivasvatasya yām arthe viśvakarmā cakāra ha ॥2-8-1॥
[कथयिष्ये (kathayiṣye) - I shall narrate; सभां (sabhām) - assembly; दिव्यां (divyām) - divine; युधिष्ठिर (yudhiṣṭhira) - Yudhiṣṭhira; निबोध (nibodha) - understand; ताम् (tām) - that; वैवस्वतस्य (vaivasvatasya) - of Vaivasvata; याम् (yām) - which; अर्थे (arthe) - for the purpose; विश्वकर्मा (viśvakarmā) - Viśvakarmā; चकार (cakāra) - made; ह (ha) - indeed;]
(I shall narrate the divine assembly, O Yudhiṣṭhira, understand that which Viśvakarmā indeed made for the purpose of Vaivasvata.)
O Yudhiṣṭhira, listen as I describe the divine assembly hall which Viśvakarmā created for Vaivasvata. (2-8-1)
तैजसी सा सभा राजन्बभूव शतयोजना। विस्तारायामसम्पन्ना भूयसी चापि पाण्डव ॥२-८-२॥
taijasī sā sabhā rājan babhūva śatayojanā। vistāra-āyāma-sampannā bhūyasī cāpi pāṇḍava ॥2-8-2॥
[तैजसी (taijasī) - radiant; सा (sā) - that; सभा (sabhā) - assembly; राजन् (rājan) - O king; बभूव (babhūva) - became; शतयोजना (śatayojanā) - hundred yojanas (in dimension); विस्तार (vistāra) - breadth; आयाम (āyāma) - length; सम्पन्ना (sampannā) - endowed with; भूयसी (bhūyasī) - very great; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; पाण्डव (pāṇḍava) - O Pāṇḍava;]
(Radiant that assembly, O king, became of a hundred yojanas; endowed with breadth and length, very great also, O Pāṇḍava.)
O Pāṇḍava, that radiant assembly became one hundred yojanas in dimension, endowed with great breadth and length, and was very magnificent, O king. (2-8-2)
अर्कप्रकाशा भ्राजिष्णुः सर्वतः कामचारिणी। नैवातिशीता नात्युष्णा मनसश्च प्रहर्षिणी ॥२-८-३॥
arkaprakāśā bhrājiṣṇuḥ sarvataḥ kāmacāriṇī। naivātiśītā nātyuṣṇā manasaśca praharṣiṇī ॥2-8-3॥
[अर्कप्रकाशा (arkaprakāśā) - having the radiance of the sun; भ्राजिष्णुः (bhrājiṣṇuḥ) - shining; सर्वतः (sarvataḥ) - on all sides; कामचारिणी (kāmacāriṇī) - moving as she wishes; न (na) - not; एव (eva) - indeed; अति (ati) - excessively; शीता (śītā) - cold; न (na) - not; अत्युष्णा (ātyuṣṇā) - excessively hot; मनसः (manasaḥ) - of the mind; च (ca) - and; प्रहर्षिणी (praharṣiṇī) - delighting;]
(Having the radiance of the sun, shining, on all sides moving as she wishes; not indeed excessively cold, not excessively hot, and delighting the mind.)
She shines with the radiance of the sun, resplendent on all sides, moving as she pleases; she is neither too cold nor too hot, and delights the mind. (2-8-3)
न शोको न जरा तस्यां क्षुत्पिपासे न चाप्रियम्। न च दैन्यं क्लमो वापि प्रतिकूलं न चाप्युत ॥२-८-४॥
na śoko na jarā tasyāṃ kṣutpipāse na cāpriyam। na ca dainyaṃ klamo vāpi pratikūlaṃ na cāpyuta ॥2-8-4॥
[न (na) - not; शोकः (śokaḥ) - sorrow; न (na) - not; जरा (jarā) - old age; तस्याम् (tasyām) - in that (state); क्षुत् (kṣut) - hunger; पिपासे (pipāse) - thirst; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; अप्रियं (apriyam) - unpleasant; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; दैन्यं (dainyaṃ) - misery; क्लमः (klamaḥ) - fatigue; वा (vā) - or; अपि (api) - even; प्रतिकूलं (pratikūlam) - adverse; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; अप्युत (apyuta) - even a little; ॥२-८-४॥ (॥2-8-4॥) -;]
(Not sorrow, not old age, in that (state) hunger or thirst, nor anything unpleasant; nor misery, nor fatigue, or even anything adverse, nor even a little.)
In that state, there is no sorrow, no old age, no hunger or thirst, nor anything unpleasant; there is no misery, fatigue, or anything adverse, not even the slightest. (2-8-4)
सर्वे कामाः स्थितास्तस्यां ये दिव्या ये च मानुषाः। रसवच्च प्रभूतं च भक्ष्यभोज्यमरिंदम ॥२-८-५॥
sarve kāmāḥ sthitās tasyāṃ ye divyā ye ca mānuṣāḥ। rasavac ca prabhūtaṃ ca bhakṣyabhojyam ariṃdama ॥2-8-5॥
[सर्वे (sarve) - all; कामाः (kāmāḥ) - desires; स्थिताः (sthitāḥ) - are present; तस्याम् (tasyām) - in that (place); ये (ye) - which; दिव्याः (divyāḥ) - divine; ये (ye) - which; च (ca) - and; मानुषाः (mānuṣāḥ) - human; रसवत् (rasavat) - with taste; च (ca) - and; प्रभूतम् (prabhūtam) - abundant; च (ca) - and; भक्ष्यभोज्यम् (bhakṣyabhojyam) - edible and eatable; अरिंदम (ariṃdama) - O subduer of enemies;]
(All desires, which are divine and which are human, are present in that (place); and, O subduer of enemies, edible and eatable things, with taste and in abundance.)

पुण्यगन्धाः स्रजस्तत्र नित्यपुष्पफलद्रुमाः। रसवन्ति च तोयानि शीतान्युष्णानि चैव ह ॥२-८-६॥
puṇyagandhāḥ srajastatra nityapuṣpaphaladrumāḥ। rasavanti ca toyāni śītānyuṣṇāni caiva ha ॥2-8-6॥

तस्यां राजर्षयः पुण्यास्तथा ब्रह्मर्षयोऽमलाः। यमं वैवस्वतं तात प्रहृष्टाः पर्युपासते ॥२-८-७॥
tasyāṃ rājarṣayaḥ puṇyās tathā brahmarṣayo'malāḥ। yamaṃ vaivasvataṃ tāta prahṛṣṭāḥ paryupāsate ॥2-8-7॥

ययातिर्नहुषः पूरुर्मान्धाता सोमको नृगः। त्रसदस्युश्च तुरयः कृतवीर्यः श्रुतश्रवाः ॥२-८-८॥
yayātirnahuṣaḥ pūrurmāndhātā somako nṛgaḥ| trasadasyuśca turayaḥ kṛtavīryaḥ śrutaśravāḥ ॥2-8-8॥

अरिप्रणुत्सुसिंहश्च कृतवेगः कृतिर्निमिः। प्रतर्दनः शिबिर्मत्स्यः पृथ्वक्षोऽथ बृहद्रथः ॥२-८-९॥
aripraṇutsusiṃhaś ca kṛtavegaḥ kṛtir nimiḥ| pratardanaḥ śibir matsyaḥ pṛthvakṣo 'tha bṛhadrathaḥ ॥2-8-9॥

(That assembly hall, O Pārtha, indeed not crowded, beautiful, accessible at will, having been constructed by Viśvakarman after performing austerity for a long time.)

Hundreds and hundreds of thousands of the righteous worship that lord of the people, the great-souled one, those wise and beautiful ones. (2-8-37)
ईदृशी सा सभा राजन्पितृराज्ञो महात्मनः। वरुणस्यापि वक्ष्यामि सभां पुष्करमालिनीम् ॥२-८-३८॥
īdṛśī sā sabhā rājan pitṛrājño mahātmanaḥ। varuṇasyāpi vakṣyāmi sabhāṃ puṣkaramālinīm ॥2-8-38॥
[ईदृशी (īdṛśī) - such as this; सा (sā) - that; सभा (sabhā) - assembly; राजन् (rājan) - O king; पितृराज्ञः (pitṛrājñaḥ) - of Yama (the king of ancestors); महात्मनः (mahātmanaḥ) - the great-souled; वरुणस्य (varuṇasya) - of Varuṇa; अपि (api) - also; वक्ष्यामि (vakṣyāmi) - I shall describe; सभाम् (sabhām) - assembly; पुष्करमालिनीम् (puṣkaramālinīm) - adorned with lotus garlands;]
(Such as this is that assembly, O king, of the great-souled Yama; I shall also describe the assembly of Varuṇa adorned with lotus garlands.)
