Pancharatra: Guests bring many gifts.
Vaiśampāyana said.
Yudhishthira, having approached and saluted his grandfather and teacher, then spoke these words, O king: Bhishma, Drona, Kripa, Ashvatthama, and Duryodhana with his twenty companions. (2-32-1)
In this sacrifice, may you all show me favor in every way. Whatever wealth of mine is here, I offer it as your own. May you all please me as you wish, without restraint. (2-32-2)
Having thus spoken, the initiated eldest of the Pāṇḍavas engaged all of them in their respective offices immediately thereafter. (2-32-3)
He appointed Duḥśāsana over the distribution of food and enjoyment, and for the possessions of the Brāhmaṇas, he declared Aśvatthāman. (2-32-4)
But, to honor the kings, the wise one appointed Sañjaya; for discerning what was done and not done, Bhīṣma and Droṇa. (2-32-5)
The king appointed Kṛpa to supervise the gold, pure gold, jewels, and the giving of gifts. Likewise, he appointed other valiant men to those respective duties. (2-32-6)
Bahlika, Dhritarashtra, Somadatta, and Jayadratha, having been brought together by Nakula, rejoiced there like masters. (2-32-7)
Vidura, the charioteer and accountant, who knew all dharmas, was present. Duryodhana accepted all the honors in every way. (2-32-8)
All people gathered together, wishing to enjoy the highest reward, eager to see the assembly as well as Dharmarāja and the Pāṇḍava. (2-32-9)
No one there brought an honor worthy of a thousand-fold. With many jewels, they honored Dharmarāja there. (2-32-10)
How could my Kaurava achieve success through gifts of jewels? Thinking only of sacrifice, the kings, in competition, gave away wealth. (2-32-11)
There were mansions with the finest aerial cars, spacious and fortified, with the aerial cars of the lord of worlds, and together with the dwellings of Brāhmaṇas. (2-32-12)
The place was adorned with residences made to resemble palaces, divine and variegated, decorated with jewels, endowed with supreme prosperity. (2-32-13)
O king, the assembly hall of the great-souled son of Kunti was resplendent, filled with assembled kings and abundant splendor and prosperity. (2-32-14)
Yudhiṣṭhira, endowed with prosperity and competing with the god Varuṇa, performed sacrifices with six fire-lords and generous gifts. He completely satisfied all people by fulfilling all their desires. (2-32-15)
That assembly, abundant with food and many edibles, surrounded by people as if they had feasted, and active in the offering of gems, came together. (2-32-16)
By food-offerings, clarified butter, oblations, and offerings, accompanied by mantra instruction, the gods were indeed satisfied by the great sages in that sacrifice. (2-32-17)
Just as the gods, so too the Brāhmaṇas were satisfied by gifts, food, and great wealth; in that sacrifice, all classes were also satisfied and filled with joy. (2-32-18)
