Pancharatra: Defeated by Pradyumna, Shalva retreats with his aeroplane.
वासुदेव उवाच॥

Vāsudeva said.
एवमुक्तस्तु कौन्तेय सूतपुत्रस्तदा मृधे। प्रद्युम्नमब्रवीच्छ्लक्ष्णं मधुरं वाक्यमञ्जसा ॥३-२०-१॥
evam uktas tu kaunteya sūtaputras tadā mṛdhe। pradyumnam abravīt ślakṣṇam madhuraṃ vākyam añjasā ॥3-20-1॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्तः (uktaḥ) - spoken; तु (tu) - but; कौन्तेय (kaunteya) - O son of Kunti; सूतपुत्रः (sūtaputraḥ) - the son of the charioteer; तदा (tadā) - then; मृधे (mṛdhe) - in battle; प्रद्युम्नम् (pradyumnam) - to Pradyumna; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; श्लक्ष्णम् (ślakṣṇam) - gentle; मधुरम् (madhuram) - sweet; वाक्यम् (vākyam) - words; अञ्जसा (añjasā) - directly;]
(Thus spoken but, O son of Kunti, the son of the charioteer then in battle to Pradyumna said gentle sweet words directly.)
When thus addressed, O son of Kunti, the son of the charioteer then spoke gentle and sweet words directly to Pradyumna in the battle. (3-20-1)
न मे भयं रौक्मिणेय सङ्ग्रामे यच्छतो हयान्। युद्धज्ञश्चास्मि वृष्णीनां नात्र किञ्चिदतोऽन्यथा ॥३-२०-२॥
na me bhayaṃ raukmiṇeya saṅgrāme yacchato hayān। yuddhajñaś cāsmi vṛṣṇīnāṃ nātra kiñcid ato'nyathā ॥3-20-2॥
[न (na) - not; मे (me) - to me; भयम् (bhayam) - fear; रौक्मिणेय (raukmiṇeya) - O son of Rukmiṇī; सङ्ग्रामे (saṅgrāme) - in battle; यच्छतः (yacchataḥ) - restraining; हयान् (hayān) - horses; युद्धज्ञः (yuddhajñaḥ) - knower of battle; च (ca) - and; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; वृष्णीनाम् (vṛṣṇīnām) - of the Vṛṣṇis; न (na) - not; अत्र (atra) - here; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - anything; अतः (ataḥ) - from this; अन्यथा (anyathā) - otherwise;]
(Not to me fear, O son of Rukmiṇī, in battle restraining horses. Knower of battle and I am of the Vṛṣṇis. Not here anything from this otherwise.)
O son of Rukmiṇī, I have no fear in battle while restraining the horses. I am also skilled in warfare among the Vṛṣṇis. There is nothing otherwise here. (3-20-2)
आयुष्मन्नुपदेशस्तु सारथ्ये वर्ततां स्मृतः। सर्वार्थेषु रथी रक्ष्यस्त्वं चापि भृशपीडितः ॥३-२०-३॥
āyuṣmann-upadeśas tu sārathye vartatāṃ smṛtaḥ। sarvārtheṣu rathī rakṣyas tvaṃ cāpi bhṛśapīḍitaḥ ॥3-20-3॥
[आयुष्मन् (āyuṣman) - O long-lived one; उपदेशः (upadeśaḥ) - instruction; तु (tu) - but; सारथ्ये (sārathye) - in charioteering; वर्तताम् (vartatām) - should be observed; स्मृतः (smṛtaḥ) - is remembered; सर्वार्थेषु (sarvārtheṣu) - in all matters; रथी (rathī) - the charioteer; रक्ष्यः (rakṣyaḥ) - should be protected; त्वम् (tvam) - you; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; भृशपीडितः (bhṛśapīḍitaḥ) - greatly afflicted;]
(O long-lived one, instruction but in charioteering should be observed is remembered. In all matters, the charioteer should be protected, you also greatly afflicted.)
O long-lived one, it is remembered that instruction should be followed in charioteering. In all matters, the charioteer should be protected, even if you are greatly afflicted. (3-20-3)
त्वं हि शाल्वप्रयुक्तेन पत्रिणाभिहतो भृशम्। कश्मलाभिहतो वीर ततोऽहमपयातवान् ॥३-२०-४॥
tvaṁ hi śālvaprayuktena patriṇābhihato bhṛśam। kaśmalābhihato vīra tato'hamapayātavān ॥3-20-4॥
[त्वं (tvaṁ) - you; हि (hi) - indeed; शाल्वप्रयुक्तेन (śālvaprayuktena) - by Śālva-employed; पत्रिणा (patriṇā) - by the arrow; अभिहतः (abhihataḥ) - struck; भृशम् (bhṛśam) - severely; कश्मलाभिहतः (kaśmalābhihataḥ) - afflicted by faintness; वीर (vīra) - O hero; ततः (tataḥ) - then; अहम् (aham) - I; अपयातवान् (apayātavān) - departed;]
(You indeed, by Śālva-employed arrow struck severely, afflicted by faintness, O hero, then I departed.)
O hero, you were struck severely by the arrow launched by Śālva and afflicted by faintness; then I departed. (3-20-4)
स त्वं सात्वतमुख्याद्य लब्धसञ्ज्ञो यदृच्छया। पश्य मे हयसंयाने शिक्षां केशवनन्दन ॥३-२०-५॥
sa tvaṃ sātvata-mukhyādya labdha-saṃjño yadṛcchayā। paśya me haya-saṃyāne śikṣāṃ keśava-nandana ॥3-20-5॥
[स (sa) - he; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; सात्वतमुख्य (sātvata-mukhya) - chief of the Sātvatas; आद्य (ādya) - and others; लब्ध (labdha) - having obtained; सञ्ज्ञः (saṃjñaḥ) - consciousness; यदृच्छया (yadṛcchayā) - by chance; पश्य (paśya) - see; मे (me) - my; हय (haya) - horse; संयाने (saṃyāne) - in the chariot; शिक्षाम् (śikṣām) - instruction; केशवनन्दन (keśava-nandana) - O son of Keśava;]
(He, you, chief of the Sātvatas and others, having regained consciousness by chance, see my instruction in the horse-chariot, O son of Keśava.)
You, having regained consciousness by chance along with the chief of the Sātvatas and others, observe my instruction in chariot-driving, O son of Keśava. (3-20-5)
दारुकेणाहमुत्पन्नो यथावच्चैव शिक्षितः। वीतभीः प्रविशाम्येतां शाल्वस्य महतीं चमूम् ॥३-२०-६॥
dārukeṇāhamutpanno yathāvaccaiva śikṣitaḥ। vītabhīḥ praviśāmyetāṃ śālvasya mahatīṃ camūm ॥3-20-6॥
[दारुकेण (dārukeṇa) - by Dāruka; अहम् (aham) - I; उत्पन्नः (utpannaḥ) - born; यथावत् (yathāvat) - properly; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; शिक्षितः (śikṣitaḥ) - trained; वीतभीः (vītabhīḥ) - free from fear; प्रविशामि (praviśāmi) - I enter; एताम् (etām) - this; शाल्वस्य (śālvasya) - of Śālva; महतीम् (mahatīm) - great; चमूम् (camūm) - army;]
(By Dāruka I born, properly and indeed trained; free from fear I enter this of Śālva great army.)
I was born by Dāruka and properly trained; now, free from fear, I enter this great army of Śālva. (3-20-6)
एवमुक्त्वा ततो वीर हयान्सञ्चोद्य सङ्गरे। रश्मिभिश्च समुद्यम्य जवेनाभ्यपतत्तदा ॥३-२०-७॥
evam uktvā tato vīra hayān sañcodya saṅgare। raśmibhiś ca samudyamya javenābhyapatat tadā ॥3-20-7॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having spoken; ततः (tataḥ) - then; वीर (vīra) - hero; हयान् (hayān) - horses; सञ्चोद्य (sañcodya) - having urged on; सङ्गरे (saṅgare) - in battle; रश्मिभिः (raśmibhiḥ) - with reins; च (ca) - and; समुद्यम्य (samudyamya) - having taken up; जवेना (javenā) - with speed; अभ्यपतत् (abhyapatat) - he rushed towards; तदा (tadā) - then;]
(Thus having spoken, then the hero, having urged on the horses in battle, and having taken up the reins, with speed, he rushed towards then.)
Having spoken thus, then the hero urged on the horses in battle, took up the reins, and swiftly rushed forward at that time. (3-20-7)
मण्डलानि विचित्राणि यमकानीतराणि च। सव्यानि च विचित्राणि दक्षिणानि च सर्वशः ॥३-२०-८॥
maṇḍalāni vicitrāṇi yamakānītarāṇi ca। savyāni ca vicitrāṇi dakṣiṇāni ca sarvaśaḥ॥3-20-8॥
[मण्डलानि (maṇḍalāni) - circles; विचित्राणि (vicitrāṇi) - variegated; यमकानीतराणि (yamakānītarāṇi) - other pairs; च (ca) - and; सव्यानि (savyāni) - left-sided; च (ca) - and; विचित्राणि (vicitrāṇi) - variegated; दक्षिणानि (dakṣiṇāni) - right-sided; च (ca) - and; सर्वशः (sarvaśaḥ) - entirely;]
(Circles variegated other pairs and left-sided and variegated right-sided and entirely.)
There were circles of various kinds, other pairs, left-sided and right-sided forms, all entirely variegated. (3-20-8)
प्रतोदेनाहता राजन्रश्मिभिश्च समुद्यताः। उत्पतन्त इवाकाशं विबभुस्ते हयोत्तमाः ॥३-२०-९॥
pratodenāhatā rājan raśmibhiś ca samudyatāḥ। utpatanta iva ākāśaṃ vibabhus te hayottamāḥ॥3-20-9॥
[प्रतोदेन (pratodena) - by the whip; आहताः (āhatāḥ) - struck; राजन् (rājan) - O king; रश्मिभिः (raśmibhiḥ) - by the reins; च (ca) - and; समुद्यताः (samudyatāḥ) - raised up; उत्पतन्त (utpatanta) - leaping; इव (iva) - as if; आकाशम् (ākāśam) - to the sky; विबभुः (vibabhuḥ) - appeared; ते (te) - those; हयः (hayaḥ) - horses; उत्तमाः (uttamāḥ) - excellent;]
(Struck by the whip, O king, and raised up by the reins, leaping as if to the sky, those excellent horses appeared.)
O king, those excellent horses, struck by the whip and raised by the reins, seemed to leap into the sky. (3-20-9)
ते हस्तलाघवोपेतं विज्ञाय नृप दारुकिम्। दह्यमाना इव तदा पस्पृशुश्चरणैर्महीम् ॥३-२०-१०॥
te hastalāghavopetaṃ vijñāya nṛpa dārukim। dahyamānā iva tadā paspṛśuścaraṇairmahīm ॥3-20-10॥
[ते (te) - they; हस्तलाघवोपेतं (hastalāghavopetam) - endowed with swiftness of hand; विज्ञाय (vijñāya) - having recognized; नृप (nṛpa) - king; दारुकिम् (dārukim) - Dāruka; दह्यमाना (dahyamānā) - being burned; इव (iva) - as if; तदा (tadā) - then; पस्पृशुः (paspṛśuḥ) - touched; चरणैः (caraṇaiḥ) - with feet; महीम् (mahīm) - the earth;]
(They, having recognized Dāruka endowed with swiftness of hand, O king, as if being burned then, touched the earth with their feet.)
O king, they recognized Dāruka, who was endowed with swiftness of hand, and then, as if being burned, they touched the earth with their feet. (3-20-10)
सोऽपसव्यां चमूं तस्य शाल्वस्य भरतर्षभ। चकार नातियत्नेन तदद्भुतमिवाभवत् ॥३-२०-११॥
so'pasavyāṃ camūṃ tasya śālvasya bharatarṣabha। cakāra nātiyatnena tadadbhutamivābhavat ॥3-20-11॥
[सः (saḥ) - he; अपसव्यां (apasavyām) - to the left; counterclockwise; चमूं (camūm) - army; तस्य (tasya) - of him; his; शाल्वस्य (śālvasya) - of Śālva; भरतर्षभ (bharatarṣabha) - O bull among the Bharatas; चकार (cakāra) - did; made; न (na) - not; अतियत्नेन (atiyatnena) - with excessive effort; तत् (tat) - that; अद्भुतम् (adbhutam) - wonderful; marvelous; इव (iva) - as if; like; अभवत् (abhavat) - became; happened;]
(He to the left army of him of Śālva O bull among the Bharatas did not with excessive effort that wonderful as if became.)
O bull among the Bharatas, he moved to the left of Śālva's army and, without much effort, did that which seemed marvelous. (3-20-11)
अमृष्यमाणोऽपसव्यं प्रद्युम्नेन स सौभराट्। यन्तारमस्य सहसा त्रिभिर्बाणैः समर्पयत् ॥३-२०-१२॥
amṛṣyamāṇo'pasavyaṃ pradyumnena sa saubharāṭ। yantāramasya sahasā tribhirbāṇaiḥ samarpayat ॥3-20-12॥
[अमृष्यमाणः (amṛṣyamāṇaḥ) - not bearing; not tolerating; अपसव्यं (apasavyaṃ) - left side; counterclockwise; improper; प्रद्युम्नेन (pradyumnena) - by Pradyumna; सः (saḥ) - he; सौभराट् (saubharāṭ) - the king of the Saubhas; यन्तारम् (yantāram) - the charioteer; अस्य (asya) - his; सहसा (sahasā) - suddenly; at once; त्रिभिः (tribhiḥ) - with three; बाणैः (bāṇaiḥ) - with arrows; समर्पयत् (samarpayat) - struck down; delivered;]
(Not bearing the left-side (improper act) by Pradyumna, he, the king of the Saubhas, suddenly struck down his charioteer with three arrows.)
Unable to tolerate the improper act by Pradyumna, the king of the Saubhas suddenly struck down his charioteer with three arrows. (3-20-12)
दारुकस्य सुतस्तं तु बाणवेगमचिन्तयन्। भूय एव महाबाहो प्रययौ हयसंमतः ॥३-२०-१३॥
dārukasya sutas taṃ tu bāṇavegam acintayan। bhūya eva mahābāho prayayau hayasaṃmataḥ ॥3-20-13॥
[दारुकस्य (dārukasya) - of Dāruka; (genitive singular) सुतः (sutaḥ) - son; (nominative singular) तं (taṃ) - him; (accusative singular) तु (tu) - but; बाणवेगम् (bāṇavegam) - arrow-speed; (accusative singular) अचिन्तयन् (acintayan) - not considering; (present participle) भूयः (bhūyaḥ) - again; एव (eva) - indeed; महाबाहो (mahābāho) - O mighty-armed; (vocative singular) प्रययौ (prayayau) - went; (perfect 3rd person singular) हयसंमतः (hayasaṃmataḥ) - approved by horses; (nominative singular);]
(The son of Dāruka, him but arrow-speed not considering, again indeed O mighty-armed, went, approved by horses.)
O mighty-armed one, the son of Dāruka, not considering the speed of the arrows, once again went forth, being approved by the horses. (3-20-13)
ततो बाणान्बहुविधान्पुनरेव स सौभराट्। मुमोच तनये वीरे मम रुक्मिणिनन्दने ॥३-२०-१४॥
tato bāṇān bahuvidhān punar eva sa saubh-rāṭ। mumoca tanaye vīre mama rukmiṇi-nandane ॥3-20-14॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; बाणान् (bāṇān) - arrows (accusative plural); बहुविधान् (bahuvidhān) - of many kinds; पुनः (punar) - again; एव (eva) - indeed; सः (saḥ) - he; सौभराट् (saubh-rāṭ) - the king of Saubha; मुमोच (mumoca) - released; तनये (tanaye) - at the son (locative singular); वीरे (vīre) - at the hero (locative singular); मम (mama) - my; रुक्मिणिनन्दने (rukmiṇi-nandane) - Rukmini's son (locative singular);]
(Then arrows of many kinds again indeed he, the king of Saubha, released at the son, at the hero, my Rukmini's son.)
Then the king of Saubha again released many kinds of arrows at my heroic son, Rukmini's son. (3-20-14)
तानप्राप्ताञ्शितैर्बाणैश्चिच्छेद परवीरहा। रौक्मिणेयः स्मितं कृत्वा दर्शयन्हस्तलाघवम् ॥३-२०-१५॥
tānaprāptāñśitairbāṇaiściccheda paravīrahā। raukmiṇeyaḥ smitaṃ kṛtvā darśayan hastalāghavam ॥3-20-15॥
[तान् (tān) - them; प्राप्तान् (prāptān) - who had arrived; शितैः (śitaiḥ) - sharp; बाणैः (bāṇaiḥ) - with arrows; चिच्छेद (ciccheda) - he cut; परवीरहा (paravīrahā) - destroyer of enemy heroes; रौक्मिणेयः (raukmiṇeyaḥ) - son of Rukmiṇī; स्मितं (smitaṃ) - a smile; कृत्वा (kṛtvā) - having made; दर्शयन् (darśayan) - showing; हस्तलाघवम् (hastalāghavam) - dexterity of hand;]
(Them who had arrived, with sharp arrows he cut, destroyer of enemy heroes; the son of Rukmiṇī, having made a smile, showing dexterity of hand.)
The son of Rukmiṇī, destroyer of enemy heroes, cut down those who had arrived with sharp arrows, smiling and displaying his dexterity of hand. (3-20-15)
छिन्नान्दृष्ट्वा तु तान्बाणान्प्रद्युम्नेन स सौभराट्। आसुरीं दारुणीं मायामास्थाय व्यसृजच्छरान् ॥३-२०-१६॥
chinnān dṛṣṭvā tu tān bāṇān pradyumnena sa saubhārāṭ। āsurīṃ dāruṇīṃ māyām āsthāya vyasṛjac charān ॥3-20-16॥
[छिन्नान् (chinnān) - cut; severed; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; तु (tu) - but; तान् (tān) - those; बाणान् (bāṇān) - arrows; प्रद्युम्नेन (pradyumnena) - by Pradyumna; स (sa) - he; सौभराट् (saubhārāṭ) - the king of Saubha; आसुरीं (āsurīṃ) - demonic; दारुणीं (dāruṇīṃ) - terrible; मायाम् (māyām) - illusion; आस्थाय (āsthāya) - having resorted to; विसृजत् (viyasṛjat) - he released; शरान् (śarān) - arrows;]
(Having seen those arrows cut by Pradyumna, he, the king of Saubha, having resorted to terrible demonic illusion, released arrows.)
But when he saw those arrows cut down by Pradyumna, the king of Saubha, employing a dreadful demonic illusion, released more arrows. (3-20-16)
प्रयुज्यमानमाज्ञाय दैतेयास्त्रं महाबलः। ब्रह्मास्त्रेणान्तरा छित्त्वा मुमोचान्यान्पतत्रिणः ॥३-२०-१७॥
prayujyamānam ājñāya daiteyāstraṃ mahābalaḥ। brahmāstreṇāntarā chittvā mumocānyān patatriṇaḥ ॥3-20-17॥
[प्रयुज्यमानम् (prayujyamānam) - being applied; आज्ञाय (ājñāya) - having perceived; दैतेय-अस्त्रं (daiteya-astraṃ) - Daitya's weapon; महाबलः (mahābalaḥ) - the mighty one; ब्रह्मास्त्रेण (brahmāstreṇa) - with the Brahma-weapon; अन्तरा (antarā) - in between; छित्त्वा (chittvā) - having cut off; मुमोच (mumoca) - released; अन्यान् (anyān) - others; पतत्रिणः (patatriṇaḥ) - birds;]
(Being applied having perceived Daitya's weapon the mighty one with the Brahma-weapon in between having cut off released others birds.)
Having perceived that the Daitya's weapon was being applied, the mighty one, using the Brahma-weapon, cut it off in between and released the other birds. (3-20-17)
ते तदस्त्रं विधूयाशु विव्यधू रुधिराशनाः। शिरस्युरसि वक्त्रे च स मुमोह पपात च ॥३-२०-१८॥
te tadastraṃ vidhūyāśu vivyadhu rudhirāśanāḥ। śirasyurasi vaktre ca sa mumoha papāta ca ॥3-20-18॥
[ते (te) - they; तत् (tat) - that; अस्त्रं (astraṃ) - weapon; विधूय (vidhūya) - having shaken off; आशु (āśu) - quickly; विव्यधुः (vivyadhuḥ) - pierced; रुधिराशनाः (rudhirāśanāḥ) - blood-eaters; शिरसि (śirasi) - on the head; उरसि (urasi) - on the chest; वक्त्रे (vaktre) - on the face; च (ca) - and; सः (saḥ) - he; मुमोह (mumoha) - became unconscious; पपात (papāta) - fell; च (ca) - and;]
(They, having quickly shaken off that weapon, the blood-eaters pierced (him) on the head, chest, and face, and he became unconscious and fell.)
They, the blood-eaters, quickly shook off that weapon and pierced him on the head, chest, and face; he became unconscious and fell. (3-20-18)
तस्मिन्निपतिते क्षुद्रे शाल्वे बाणप्रपीडिते। रौक्मिणेयोऽपरं बाणं संदधे शत्रुनाशनम् ॥३-२०-१९॥
tasminnipatite kṣudre śālve bāṇaprapīḍite। raukmiṇeyo'paraṃ bāṇaṃ sandadhe śatrunāśanam ॥3-20-19॥
[तस्मिन् (tasmin) - in that; निपतिते (nipatite) - having fallen; क्षुद्रे (kṣudre) - mean; शाल्वे (śālve) - Śālva; बाणप्रपीडिते (bāṇaprapīḍite) - afflicted by arrows; रौक्मिणेयः (raukmiṇeyaḥ) - son of Rukmiṇī; अपरम् (aparam) - another; बाणम् (bāṇam) - arrow; संदधे (sandadhe) - fitted; शत्रुनाशनम् (śatrunāśanam) - destroyer of enemies;]
(In that (Śālva), having fallen, mean, afflicted by arrows, the son of Rukmiṇī fitted another arrow, destroyer of enemies.)
When that mean Śālva had fallen, afflicted by arrows, the son of Rukmiṇī fitted another arrow, a destroyer of enemies. (3-20-19)
तमर्चितं सर्वदाशार्हपूगै; राशीर्भिरर्कज्वलनप्रकाशम्। दृष्ट्वा शरं ज्यामभिनीयमानं; बभूव हाहाकृतमन्तरिक्षम् ॥३-२०-२०॥
tam arcitaṃ sarva-dāśārha-pūgaiḥ; rāśīrbhir arka-jvalana-prakāśam। dṛṣṭvā śaraṃ jyām abhinīyamānam; babhūva hāhā-kṛtam antarikṣam ॥3-20-20॥
[तम् (tam) - him; अर्चितम् (arcitam) - worshipped; सर्वदाशार्हपूगैः (sarva-dāśārha-pūgaiḥ) - by all groups of worthy donors; राशीर्भिः (rāśīrbhiḥ) - by heaps; अर्कज्वलनप्रकाशम् (arka-jvalana-prakāśam) - shining like the sun and fire; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; शरम् (śaram) - arrow; ज्याम् (jyām) - bowstring; अभिनीयमानम् (abhinīyamānam) - being drawn; बभूव (babhūva) - became; हाहाकृतम् (hāhā-kṛtam) - filled with cries of 'hāhā'; अन्तरिक्षम् (antarikṣam) - the sky;]
(Him worshipped by all groups of worthy donors, by heaps, shining like the sun and fire; having seen the arrow and the bowstring being drawn, the sky became filled with cries of 'hāhā'. (3-20-20))
When he, worshipped by all assemblies of worthy donors with heaps (of offerings), shone like the sun and fire, and when the arrow and bowstring were seen being drawn, the sky resounded with cries of 'hāhā'. (3-20-20)
ततो देवगणाः सर्वे सेन्द्राः सह धनेश्वराः। नारदं प्रेषयामासुः श्वसनं च महाबलम् ॥३-२०-२१॥
tato devagaṇāḥ sarve sendrāḥ saha dhaneśvarāḥ। nāradaṃ preṣayāmāsuḥ śvasanaṃ ca mahābalam ॥3-20-21॥

(Then the groups of gods, all, with Indra, together with the lords of wealth, sent Nārada and the greatly powerful Wind.)

tau raukmiṇeyam āgamya vaco'brūtāṃ divaukasām। naiṣa vadhyas tvayā vīra śālvarājaḥ kathaṃcana ॥3-20-22॥
[तौ (tau) - those two; रौक्मिणेयम् (raukmiṇeyam) - Rukmini's son; आगम्य (āgamya) - having approached; वचः (vacaḥ) - speech; अब्रूताम् (abrūtām) - spoke; दिवौकसाम् (divaukasām) - of the gods; न (na) - not; एषः (eṣaḥ) - this; वध्यः (vadhyaḥ) - to be slain; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; वीर (vīra) - hero; शाल्वराजः (śālvarājaḥ) - king of Shalva; कथञ्चन (kathaṃcana) - in any way;]
(Those two, having approached Rukmini's son, spoke the speech of the gods: "This king of Shalva is not to be slain by you, hero, in any way." (3-20-22))

(Withdraw again the arrow; this is not to be slain by you in battle. Indeed, of this arrow in battle, there is not a man to be slain anywhere. (3-20-23))
Withdraw your arrow again; this one is not to be killed by you in battle. Indeed, there is no man anywhere in battle who can be killed by this arrow. (3-20-23)
मृत्युरस्य महाबाहो रणे देवकिनन्दनः। कृष्णः सङ्कल्पितो धात्रा तन्न मिथ्या भवेदिति ॥३-२०-२४॥
mṛtyur asya mahābāho raṇe devakinandanaḥ। kṛṣṇaḥ saṅkalpito dhātrā tan na mithyā bhaved iti ॥3-20-24॥

(Death of him, O mighty-armed, in battle, O son of Devakī, Kṛṣṇa, determined by the Creator, that not false would be, thus.)
O mighty-armed son of Devakī, Kṛṣṇa's death in battle has been determined by the Creator; that will not prove false. (3-20-24)
ततः परमसंहृष्टः प्रद्युम्नः शरमुत्तमम्। सञ्जहार धनुःश्रेष्ठात्तूणे चैव न्यवेशयत् ॥३-२०-२५॥
tataḥ paramasaṁhṛṣṭaḥ pradyumnaḥ śaramuttamam। sañjahāra dhanuḥśreṣṭhāttūṇe caiva nyaveśayat ॥3-20-25॥

(Then, supremely gladdened, Pradyumna withdrew the excellent arrow from the best bow, and indeed placed it in the quiver.)

तत उत्थाय राजेन्द्र शाल्वः परमदुर्मनाः। व्यपायात्सबलस्तूर्णं प्रद्युम्नशरपीडितः ॥३-२०-२६॥
tata utthāya rājendra śālvaḥ paramadurmanāḥ। vyapāyātsabalastūrṇaṃ pradyumnaśarapīḍitaḥ ॥3-20-26॥

sa dvārakāṃ parityajya krūro vṛṣṇibhirarditaḥ। saubhamāsthāya rājendra divamācakrame tadā ॥3-20-27॥

(He, having abandoned Dvaraka, the cruel one, afflicted by the Vrishnis, having mounted Saubha, O king, to heaven ascended then.)
