Pancharatra: After returning from Rajasuya, Krishna goes after Shalva and finds his battleship parked in the middle of an ocean.
वासुदेव उवाच॥

आनर्तनगरं मुक्तं ततोऽहमगमं तदा। महाक्रतौ राजसूये निवृत्ते नृपते तव ॥३-२१-१॥
ānartanagaraṃ muktaṃ tato'hamagamaṃ tadā। mahākratau rājasūye nivṛtte nṛpate tava ॥3-21-1॥

After the city of Anarta was released, I then went from there; when your great Rājasūya sacrifice had been completed, O king. (3-21-1)
अपश्यं द्वारकां चाहं महाराज हतत्विषम्। निःस्वाध्यायवषट्कारां निर्भूषणवरस्त्रियम् ॥३-२१-२॥
apaśyaṃ dvārakāṃ cāhaṃ mahārāja hatatviṣam। niḥsvādhyāyavaṣaṭkārāṃ nirbhūṣaṇavarastriyam ॥3-21-2॥

O great king, I saw Dvārakā, bereft of its former splendor, lacking the recitation of sacred texts and sacrificial exclamations, and without its ornaments and noble women. (3-21-2)
अनभिज्ञेयरूपाणि द्वारकोपवनानि च। दृष्ट्वा शङ्कोपपन्नोऽहमपृच्छं हृदिकात्मजम् ॥३-२१-३॥
anabhijñeyarūpāṇi dvārakopavanāni ca। dṛṣṭvā śaṅkopapanno'ham apṛcchaṃ hṛdikātmajam ॥3-21-3॥

(Not-recognizable forms, Dvārakā gardens and, having seen, doubt arisen, I asked son of Hṛdika.)
Having seen the unfamiliar forms of the gardens of Dvārakā, I became doubtful and asked the son of Hṛdika. (3-21-3)
अस्वस्थनरनारीकमिदं वृष्णिपुरं भृषम्। किमिदं नरशार्दूल श्रोतुमिच्छामहे वयम् ॥३-२१-४॥
asvasthanaranārikam idaṁ vṛṣṇipuraṁ bhṛśam। kim idaṁ naraśārdūla śrotum icchāmahe vayam ॥3-21-4॥
[अस्वस्थ (asvastha) - unwell; नर (nara) - man; नारी (nārī) - woman; कम् (kam) - with; इदं (idaṁ) - this; वृष्णिपुरम् (vṛṣṇipuram) - city of the Vṛṣṇis; भृषम् (bhṛśam) - greatly; किम् (kim) - what; इदं (idaṁ) - this; नरशार्दूल (naraśārdūla) - tiger among men; श्रोतुम् (śrotum) - to hear; इच्छामहे (icchāmahe) - we wish; वयम् (vayam) - we;]
(Unwell man woman with this city of the Vṛṣṇis greatly; what is this, tiger among men, to hear we wish we.)
This city of the Vṛṣṇis is greatly filled with unwell men and women; what is this, O tiger among men? We wish to hear (about it). (3-21-4)
एवमुक्तस्तु स मया विस्तरेणेदमब्रवीत्। रोधं मोक्षं च शाल्वेन हार्दिक्यो राजसत्तम ॥३-२१-५॥
evam-uktas tu sa mayā vistareṇedam abravīt। rodhaṃ mokṣaṃ ca śālvena hārdikyo rājasattama ॥3-21-5॥

(Thus spoken but he by me in detail this said; obstruction release and by Śālva the son of Hṛdika, best of kings;)
Thus, when I had spoken in detail, he, the son of Hṛdika, best of kings, told this about the obstruction and release by Śālva. (3-21-5)
ततोऽहं कौरवश्रेष्ठ श्रुत्वा सर्वमशेषतः। विनाशे शाल्वराजस्य तदैवाकरवं मतिम् ॥३-२१-६॥
tato'haṃ kauravaśreṣṭha śrutvā sarvamaśeṣataḥ। vināśe śālvarājasya tadaivākaravaṃ matim ॥3-21-6॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; अहम् (aham) - I; कौरवश्रेष्ठ (kauravaśreṣṭha) - O best of the Kauravas; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; अशेषतः (aśeṣataḥ) - completely; विनाशे (vināśe) - in the destruction; शाल्वराजस्य (śālvarājasya) - of the king of Śālva; तदा (tadā) - then; एव (eva) - indeed; अकरवम् (akaravam) - I made; मतिम् (matim) - decision;]
(Then I, O best of the Kauravas, having heard all completely, in the destruction of the king of Śālva, then indeed made (my) decision.)
Then, O best of the Kauravas, after hearing everything in full about the destruction of the king of Śālva, I immediately made up my mind. (3-21-6)
ततोऽहं भरतश्रेष्ठ समाश्वास्य पुरे जनम्। राजानमाहुकं चैव तथैवानकदुन्दुभिम् ॥ सर्ववृष्णिप्रवीरांश्च हर्षयन्नब्रुवं तदा ॥३-२१-७॥
tato'haṃ bharataśreṣṭha samāśvāsya pure janam। rājānamāhukaṃ caiva tathaivānakadundubhim ॥ sarvavṛṣṇipravīrāṃśca harṣayann abruvaṃ tadā ॥3-21-7॥

(Then I, O best of the Bharatas, having consoled the people in the city, the king Āhuka and likewise Anakadundubhi, and all the foremost of the Vṛṣṇis, gladdening (them), I spoke then.)
Then, O best of the Bharatas, after consoling the people in the city, the king Āhuka, and also Anakadundubhi, I spoke to all the foremost of the Vṛṣṇis, cheering them. (3-21-7)
अप्रमादः सदा कार्यो नगरे यादवर्षभाः। शाल्वराजविनाशाय प्रयातं मां निबोधत ॥३-२१-८॥
apramādaḥ sadā kāryo nagare yādavaṛṣabhāḥ। śālvarājavināśāya prayātaṃ māṃ nibodhata ॥3-21-8॥
[अप्रमादः (apramādaḥ) - non-negligence; सदा (sadā) - always; कार्यः (kāryaḥ) - should be done; नगरे (nagare) - in the city; यादवर्षभाः (yādavaṛṣabhāḥ) - bulls among the Yādavas; शाल्वराजविनाशाय (śālvarājavināśāya) - for the destruction of the king of Śālva; प्रयातम् (prayātam) - departed; माम् (mām) - me; निबोधत (nibodhata) - know;]
(Non-negligence always should be done in the city, bulls among the Yādavas; for the destruction of the king of Śālva, departed me, know.)
O foremost of the Yādavas, always maintain vigilance in the city; know that I have departed for the destruction of the king of Śālva. (3-21-8)
नाहत्वा तं निवर्तिष्ये पुरीं द्वारवतीं प्रति। सशाल्वं सौभनगरं हत्वा द्रष्टास्मि वः पुनः ॥ त्रिसामा हन्यतामेषा दुन्दुभिः शत्रुभीषणी ॥३-२१-९॥
nāhatvā taṃ nivartiṣye purīṃ dvāravatīṃ prati। saśālavaṃ saubhanagaraṃ hatvā draṣṭāsmi vaḥ punaḥ ॥ trisāmā hanyatāmeṣā dundubhiḥ śatrubhīṣaṇī ॥3-21-9॥
[न (na) - not; अहत्वा (ahatvā) - without killing; तं (taṃ) - him; निवर्तिष्ये (nivartiṣye) - I shall return; पुरीं (purīṃ) - city; द्वारवतीं (dvāravatīṃ) - Dvāravatī; प्रति (prati) - towards; सशाल्वं (saśālvam) - with Śālva; सौभनगरं (saubhanagaram) - Saubha city; हत्वा (hatvā) - having killed; द्रष्टास्मि (draṣṭāsmi) - I shall see; वः (vaḥ) - you (all); पुनः (punaḥ) - again; त्रिसामा (trisāmā) - Trisāmā; हन्यताम् (hanyatām) - let be struck; एषा (eṣā) - this; दुन्दुभिः (dundubhiḥ) - drum; शत्रुभीषणी (śatrubhīṣaṇī) - terrifying to enemies;]
(Not without killing him I shall return towards the city Dvāravatī. Having killed Śālva with the Saubha city, I shall see you again. Trisāmā, let this drum terrifying to enemies be struck. (3-21-9))
I will not return to the city of Dvāravatī without killing him. After slaying Śālva along with the Saubha city, I shall see you all again. Trisāmā, let this drum that terrifies enemies be sounded. (3-21-9)
ते मयाश्वासिता वीरा यथावद्भरतर्षभ। सर्वे मामब्रुवन्हृष्टाः प्रयाहि जहि शात्रवान् ॥३-२१-१०॥
te mayāśvāsitā vīrā yathāvad bharatarṣabha। sarve mām abruvan hṛṣṭāḥ prayāhi jahi śātravān ॥3-21-10॥
[ते (te) - they; मया (mayā) - by me; आश्वासिता (āśvāsitā) - encouraged; वीरा (vīrā) - heroes; यथावत् (yathāvat) - properly; भरतर्षभ (bharatarṣabha) - bull among the Bharatas; सर्वे (sarve) - all; माम् (mām) - to me; अब्रुवन् (abruvan) - said; हृष्टाः (hṛṣṭāḥ) - joyful; प्रयाहि (prayāhi) - go forth; जहि (jahi) - slay; शात्रवान् (śātravān) - enemies;]
(They, encouraged by me, heroes, properly, bull among the Bharatas, all, to me, said, joyful: Go forth, slay the enemies.)
O bull among the Bharatas, those heroes, having been properly encouraged by me, all joyfully said to me: "Go forth, slay the enemies." (3-21-10)
तैः प्रहृष्टात्मभिर्वीरैराशीर्भिरभिनन्दितः। वाचयित्वा द्विजश्रेष्ठान्प्रणम्य शिरसाहुकम् ॥३-२१-११॥
taiḥ prahṛṣṭātmabhir vīrair āśīrbhir abhinanditaḥ। vācayitvā dvijaśreṣṭhān praṇamya śirasā ahukam ॥3-21-11॥
[तैः (taiḥ) - by them; प्रहृष्टात्मभिः (prahṛṣṭātmabhiḥ) - with delighted minds; वीरैः (vīraiḥ) - by heroes; आशीर्भिः (āśīrbhiḥ) - with blessings; अभिनन्दितः (abhinanditaḥ) - honored; वाचयित्वा (vācayitvā) - having caused to be recited; द्विजश्रेष्ठान् (dvijaśreṣṭhān) - the best of twice-born; प्रणम्य (praṇamya) - having bowed; शिरसा (śirasā) - with the head; अहुकम् (ahukam) - Ahuka;]
(By them, with delighted minds, by heroes, with blessings, honored; having caused the best of twice-born to recite, having bowed with the head to Ahuka.)
He was honored with blessings by those heroic men whose minds were delighted; after having the best of the twice-born recite, he bowed his head to Ahuka. (3-21-11)
सैन्यसुग्रीवयुक्तेन रथेनानादयन्दिशः। प्रध्माप्य शङ्खप्रवरं पाञ्चजन्यमहं नृप ॥३-२१-१२॥
sainyasugrīvayuktena rathenānādayandiśaḥ। pradhmāpya śaṅkhapravaraṃ pāñcajanyamahaṃ nṛpa ॥3-21-12॥
[सैन्य (sainya) - army; सुग्रीव (sugrīva) - Sugrīva; युक्तेन (yuktena) - joined with; रथेन (rathena) - by the chariot; अनादयन् (anādayan) - causing to resound; दिशः (diśaḥ) - the directions; प्रध्माप्य (pradhmāpya) - having blown; शङ्खप्रवरं (śaṅkhapravaram) - the excellent conch; पाञ्चजन्यं (pāñcajanyam) - Pāñcajanya; अहम् (aham) - I; नृप (nṛpa) - O king;]
(With the army and Sugrīva joined, by the chariot, causing the directions to resound, having blown the excellent conch Pāñcajanya, I, O king.)
O king, I, with Sugrīva and the army mounted on the chariot, blew the excellent conch Pāñcajanya, making all directions resound. (3-21-12)
प्रयातोऽस्मि नरव्याघ्र बलेन महता वृतः। कॢप्तेन चतुरङ्गेण बलेन जितकाशिना ॥३-२१-१३॥
prayāto'smi naravyāghra balena mahatā vṛtaḥ। kḷptena caturaṅgeṇa balena jitakāśinā ॥3-21-13॥
[प्रयातः (prayātaḥ) - departed; gone forth; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; नरव्याघ्र (naravyāghra) - tiger among men; बलेन (balena) - with army; with force; महतā (mahatā) - great; mighty; वृतः (vṛtaḥ) - surrounded; accompanied; कॢप्तेन (kḷptena) - well-arranged; prepared; चतुरङ्गेण (caturaṅgeṇa) - with fourfold army; बलेन (balena) - with army; with force; जितकाशिना (jitakāśinā) - by the conqueror of Kāśī;]
(Departed I am, O tiger among men, with army great surrounded; with well-arranged fourfold army, with army, by the conqueror of Kāśī.)
O tiger among men, I have set out, surrounded by a great army, with a well-arranged fourfold force, accompanied by the conqueror of Kāśī. (3-21-13)
समतीत्य बहून्देशान्गिरींश्च बहुपादपान्। सरांसि सरितश्चैव मार्त्तिकावतमासदम् ॥३-२१-१४॥
samatītya bahūn deśān girīṁś ca bahu-pādapān। sarāṁsi saritaś caiva mārtikāvatam āsadam ॥3-21-14॥
[समतीत्य (samatītya) - having crossed over; बहून् (bahūn) - many; देशान् (deśān) - regions; गिरीन् (girīn) - mountains; च (ca) - and; बहुपादपान् (bahu-pādapān) - many trees; सरांसि (sarāṁsi) - lakes; सरितः (saritaḥ) - rivers; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; मार्त्तिकावतम् (mārtikāvatam) - Mārtikāvata (name of a place); आसदम् (āsadam) - reached;]
(Having crossed over many regions, mountains and many trees, lakes and rivers indeed, (he) reached Mārtikāvata.)
After traversing many regions, mountains, and forests with many trees, as well as lakes and rivers, he finally reached Mārtikāvata. (3-21-14)
तत्राश्रौषं नरव्याघ्र शाल्वं नगरमन्तिकात्। प्रयातं सौभमास्थाय तमहं पृष्ठतोऽन्वयाम् ॥३-२१-१५॥
tatrāśrauṣaṃ naravyāghra śālvaṃ nagaram-antikāt। prayātaṃ saubham-āsthāya tam-ahaṃ pṛṣṭhato'nvayām ॥3-21-15॥
[तत्र (tatra) - there; अश्रौषम् (aśrauṣam) - I heard; नरव्याघ्र (naravyāghra) - O tiger among men; शाल्वम् (śālvam) - Śālva; नगरमन्तिकात् (nagaram-antikāt) - from near the city; प्रयातम् (prayātam) - departed; सौभम् (saubham) - the Saubha (airship); आस्थाय (āsthāya) - having mounted; तम् (tam) - him; अहम् (aham) - I; पृष्ठतः (pṛṣṭhataḥ) - from behind; अन्वयाम् (anvayām) - followed;]
(There I heard, O tiger among men, that Śālva, having departed from near the city, having mounted the Saubha, him I from behind followed.)
There, O tiger among men, I heard that Śālva, having mounted the Saubha, departed from near the city; I followed him from behind. (3-21-15)
ततः सागरमासाद्य कुक्षौ तस्य महोर्मिणः। समुद्रनाभ्यां शाल्वोऽभूत्सौभमास्थाय शत्रुहन् ॥३-२१-१६॥
tataḥ sāgaram āsādya kukṣau tasya maho-rmiṇaḥ। samudra-nābhyāṃ śālvaḥ abhūt saubham āsthāya śatru-han ॥3-21-16॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; सागरम् (sāgaram) - ocean; आसाद्य (āsādya) - having reached; कुक्षौ (kukṣau) - in the belly; तस्य (tasya) - of it; महोर्मिणः (maho-rmiṇaḥ) - of the great-waved; समुद्रनाभ्यां (samudra-nābhyām) - at the navel of the ocean; शाल्वः (śālvaḥ) - Śālva; अभूत् (abhūt) - became; सौभम् (saubham) - Saubha (his aerial city); आस्थाय (āsthāya) - having mounted; शत्रुहन् (śatru-han) - destroyer of enemies;]
(Then, having reached the ocean, in the belly of it, of the great-waved, at the navel of the ocean, Śālva became (appeared), having mounted Saubha, destroyer of enemies.)
Then, having reached the ocean, in the midst of its great waves, at the navel of the sea, Śālva appeared, having mounted his Saubha (aerial city), as the destroyer of enemies. (3-21-16)
स समालोक्य दूरान्मां स्मयन्निव युधिष्ठिर। आह्वयामास दुष्टात्मा युद्धायैव मुहुर्मुहुः ॥३-२१-१७॥
sa samālokya dūrānmāṃ smayanniva yudhiṣṭhira। āhvayāmāsa duṣṭātmā yuddhāyaiva muhurmuhuḥ ॥3-21-17॥
[स (sa) - he; समालोक्य (samālokya) - having looked at; दूरान् (dūrān) - from afar; माम् (mām) - me; स्मयन् (smayan) - smiling; इव (iva) - as if; युधिष्ठिर (yudhiṣṭhira) - O Yudhiṣṭhira; आह्वयामास (āhvayāmāsa) - he challenged; दुष्टात्मा (duṣṭātmā) - wicked-souled; युद्धाय (yuddhāya) - for battle; एव (eva) - indeed; मुहुःमुहुः (muhurmuhuḥ) - again and again;]
(He, having looked at me from afar, as if smiling, O Yudhiṣṭhira, the wicked-souled (one) challenged (me) for battle indeed again and again.)
O Yudhiṣṭhira, he looked at me from a distance, as if smiling, and that wicked-souled man repeatedly challenged me to battle. (3-21-17)
तस्य शार्ङ्गविनिर्मुक्तैर्बहुभिर्मर्मभेदिभिः। पुरं नासाद्यत शरैस्ततो मां रोष आविशत् ॥३-२१-१८॥
tasya śārṅgavinirmuktair bahubhir marmabhedibhiḥ। puraṃ nāsādyata śaraistato māṃ roṣa āviśat ॥3-21-18॥
[तस्य (tasya) - of him; शार्ङ्गविनिर्मुक्तैः (śārṅga-vinirmuktaiḥ) - by those released from Śārṅga (the bow); बहुभिः (bahubhiḥ) - by many; मर्मभेदिभिः (marmabhedibhiḥ) - piercing the vital points; पुरं (puraṃ) - the city; न (na) - not; असाद्यत (asādyata) - was reached; शरैः (śaraiḥ) - by arrows; ततः (tataḥ) - then; माम् (mām) - me; रोषः (roṣaḥ) - anger; आविशत् (āviśat) - entered;]
(Of him, by those released from Śārṅga, by many, piercing the vital points, the city was not reached by arrows; then, me, anger entered.)
When the city was not reached by the many arrows, piercing the vital points, released from Śārṅga, then anger entered me. (3-21-18)
स चापि पापप्रकृतिर्दैतेयापसदो नृप। मय्यवर्षत दुर्धर्षः शरधाराः सहस्रशः ॥३-२१-१९॥
sa cāpi pāpaprakṛtir daiteyāpasado nṛpa। mayy avarṣata durdharṣaḥ śaradhārāḥ sahasraśaḥ ॥3-21-19॥
[स (sa) - he; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; पापप्रकृतिः (pāpaprakṛtiḥ) - of evil nature; दैतेयापसदः (daiteyāpasadaḥ) - lowest among Daityas; नृप (nṛpa) - O king; मयि (mayi) - on me; अवर्षत् (avarṣat) - rained; दुर्धर्षः (durdharṣaḥ) - difficult to assail; शरधाराः (śaradhārāḥ) - streams of arrows; सहस्रशः (sahasraśaḥ) - by thousands;]
(He and also of evil nature, lowest among Daityas, O king, on me rained, difficult to assail, streams of arrows by thousands.)
O king, that lowest among the Daityas, of evil nature and difficult to assail, rained thousands of streams of arrows upon me. (3-21-19)
सैनिकान्मम सूतं च हयांश्च समवाकिरत्। अचिन्तयन्तस्तु शरान्वयं युध्याम भारत ॥३-२१-२०॥
sainikān mama sūtaṃ ca hayāṃś ca samavākirat। acintayant as tu śarān vayaṃ yudhyāma bhārata ॥3-21-20॥
[सैनिकान् (sainikān) - soldiers; मम (mama) - my; सूतम् (sūtam) - charioteer; च (ca) - and; हयान् (hayān) - horses; च (ca) - and; समवाकिरत् (samavākirat) - covered; अचिन्तयन्तः (acintayantaḥ) - not considering; तु (tu) - but; शरान् (śarān) - arrows; वयम् (vayam) - we; युध्याम (yudhyāma) - fight; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata;]

O Bhārata, the soldiers covered my charioteer and horses with arrows, but we, not considering (the attack), continued to fight. (3-21-20)
ततः शतसहस्राणि शराणां नतपर्वणाम्। चिक्षिपुः समरे वीरा मयि शाल्वपदानुगाः ॥३-२१-२१॥
tataḥ śatasahasrāṇi śarāṇāṃ nataparvaṇām। cikṣipuḥ samare vīrā mayi śālvapadānugāḥ ॥3-21-21॥

न हया न रथो वीर न यन्ता मम दारुकः। अदृश्यन्त शरैश्छन्नास्तथाहं सैनिकाश्च मे ॥३-२१-२३॥
na hayā na ratho vīra na yantā mama dārukaḥ। adṛśyanta śaraiś channās tathāhaṃ sainikāś ca me ॥3-21-23॥

(Not horses, not chariot, hero, not charioteer my Dāruka; were not seen, by arrows covered, so I, soldiers and my.)
Neither my horses, nor my chariot, nor my charioteer Dāruka, nor I, nor my soldiers could be seen, all being covered by arrows. (3-21-23)
ततोऽहमपि कौरव्य शराणामयुतान्बहून्। अभिमन्त्रितानां धनुषा दिव्येन विधिनाक्षिपम् ॥३-२१-२४॥
tato'ham api kauravya śarāṇām ayutān bahūn। abhimantritānāṃ dhanuṣā divyena vidhinākṣipam ॥3-21-24॥

(Then I also, O Kauravya, with the bow, by the divine method, discharged many tens of thousands of arrows that were consecrated by mantra.)
Then I too, O descendant of Kuru, using the divine bow and proper method, released many tens of thousands of arrows empowered by mantra. (3-21-24)
न तत्र विषयस्त्वासीन्मम सैन्यस्य भारत। खे विषक्तं हि तत्सौभं क्रोशमात्र इवाभवत् ॥३-२१-२५॥
na tatra viṣayastvāsīnmama sainyasya bhārata। khe viṣaktaṃ hi tatsaubhaṃ krośamātra ivābhavat ॥3-21-25॥

(Not there domain was of my army, O Bhārata. In the sky, suspended indeed that Saubha became like the distance of a krośa.)
O Bhārata, there was no domain of my army there. That Saubha, indeed, suspended in the sky, became as if at the distance of a krośa. (3-21-25)
ततस्ते प्रेक्षकाः सर्वे रङ्गवाट इव स्थिताः। हर्षयामासुरुच्चैर्मां सिंहनादतलस्वनैः ॥३-२१-२६॥
tataste prekṣakāḥ sarve raṅgavāṭa iva sthitāḥ। harṣayāmāsur uccair māṃ siṃhanādatalasvanaiḥ ॥3-21-26॥

मत्कार्मुकविनिर्मुक्ता दानवानां महारणे। अङ्गेषु रुधिराक्तास्ते विविशुः शलभा इव ॥३-२१-२७॥
matkārmukavinirmuktā dānavānāṃ mahāraṇe। aṅgeṣu rudhirāktāste viviśuḥ śalabhā iva ॥3-21-27॥

(Then, having the radiance of cow's milk, jasmine, moon, lotus-stalk, and silver, the water-born Pāñcajanya indeed with breath I filled.)

(Having seen them fallen there, Śālva, the lord of Saubha, then with great magical warfare engaged me in battle.)

(Them I indeed by illusion quickly having received I destroyed. In that killed illusion with mountain peaks he fought.)

(Then became darkness as if, dawn as if and became; bad day, good day and indeed, cold, heat and O Bhārata.)
Then, O Bhārata, it became as if night and as if dawn; it was both a bad day and a good day, both cold and hot. (3-21-34)
एवं मायां विकुर्वाणो योधयामास मां रिपुः। विज्ञाय तदहं सर्वं माययैव व्यनाशयम् ॥ यथाकालं तु युद्धेन व्यधमं सर्वतः शरैः ॥३-२१-३५॥
evaṃ māyāṃ vikurvāṇo yodhayāmāsa māṃ ripuḥ। vijñāya tadahaṃ sarvaṃ māyayāiva vyanāśayam ॥ yathākālaṃ tu yuddhena vyadhamaṃ sarvataḥ śaraiḥ ॥3-21-35॥

(Thus, transforming illusion, the enemy fought me; having known that, I indeed destroyed all by illusion. At the proper time, but, by battle, I struck down from all sides with arrows.)
Thus, the enemy, employing illusion, fought with me; realizing this, I destroyed all his illusions. Then, at the right time, I struck him down from all sides with arrows in battle. (3-21-35)
ततो व्योम महाराज शतसूर्यमिवाभवत्। शतचन्द्रं च कौन्तेय सहस्रायुततारकम् ॥३-२१-३६॥
tato vyoma mahārāja śatasūryamivābhavat। śatacandraṃ ca kaunteya sahasrāyutatārakam ॥3-21-36॥

(Then the sky, O great king, became like a hundred suns; and, O son of Kunti, (it became) with a hundred moons and thousands and tens of thousands of stars.)
Then, O great king, the sky became as if with a hundred suns; and, O son of Kunti, it was filled with a hundred moons and thousands upon thousands of stars. (3-21-36)
ततो नाज्ञायत तदा दिवारात्रं तथा दिशः। ततोऽहं मोहमापन्नः प्रज्ञास्त्रं समयोजयम् ॥ ततस्तदस्त्रमस्त्रेण विधूतं शरतूलवत् ॥३-२१-३७॥
tato nājñāyata tadā divārātraṃ tathā diśaḥ। tato'haṃ mohamāpannaḥ prajñāstraṃ samayojayam॥ tatastadastramastreṇa vidhūtaṃ śaratūlavat॥3-21-37॥

(Then, not was perceived then day, night, also directions. Then I, afflicted by delusion, applied the wisdom-weapon. Then that weapon, by (my) weapon, was dispelled like autumn-cotton. (3-21-37))
Then, neither day nor night nor the directions were perceived. Then, afflicted by delusion, I applied the weapon of wisdom. Then that weapon was dispelled by my weapon like autumn-cotton. (3-21-37)
तथा तदभवद्युद्धं तुमुलं लोमहर्षणम्। लब्धालोकश्च राजेन्द्र पुनः शत्रुमयोधयम् ॥३-२१-३८॥
tathā tadabhavadyuddhaṃ tumulaṃ lomaharṣaṇam। labdhālokaśca rājendra punaḥ śatrumayodhayam ॥3-21-38॥
[तथा (tathā) - thus; तत् (tat) - that; अभवत् (abhavat) - became; युद्धम् (yuddham) - battle; तुमुलम् (tumulam) - tumultuous; लोमहर्षणम् (lomaharṣaṇam) - hair-raising; लब्ध (labdha) - obtained; आलोकः (ālokaḥ) - sight; च (ca) - and; राजेन्द्र (rājendra) - O king; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; शत्रुम् (śatrum) - enemy; अयोधयत् (ayodhayat) - fought;]
(Thus that battle became tumultuous, hair-raising. Having obtained sight, and O king, again he fought the enemy.)
