दमयन्ती तु तच्छ्रुत्वा वचो हंसस्य भारत। तदा प्रभृति नस्वस्था नलं प्रति बभूव सा ॥०३-५१-१॥
damayantī tu tac chrutvā vaco haṃsasya bhārata. tadā prabhṛti nasvasthā nalaṃ prati babhūva sā ॥03-51-1॥
[दमयन्ती (damayantī) - Damayanti (proper noun); तु (tu) - but; तच्छ्रुत्वा (tac chrutvā) - having heard that; वचः (vacaḥ) - words; हंसस्य (haṃsasya) - of the swan; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata; तदा (tadā) - then; प्रभृति (prabhṛti) - from (that time) on; नस्वस्था (nasvasthā) - not well; नलम् (nalam) - towards Nala (proper noun); प्रति (prati) - towards; बभूव (babhūva) - she became; सा (sā) - she;]
(Damayanti but having heard that the words of the swan O Bhārata then from (that time) not well towards Nala she became she.)
But Damayanti, O Bhārata, having heard those words of the swan, from that moment on, became unwell regarding Nala. (03-51-1)
ततश्चिन्तापरा दीना विवर्णवदना कृशा। बभूव दमयन्ती तु निःश्वासपरमा तदा ॥०३-५१-२॥
tataś cintāparā dīnā vivarṇavadanā kṛśā। babhūva damayantī tu niḥśvāsaparamā tadā ॥03-51-2॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; चिन्तापरा (cintāparā) - absorbed in anxiety; दीना (dīnā) - distressed; विवर्णवदना (vivarṇavadanā) - pale-faced; कृशा (kṛśā) - emaciated; बभूव (babhūva) - became; दमयन्ती (damayantī) - Damayantī; तु (tu) - but; निःश्वासपरमा (niḥśvāsaparamā) - greatly sighing; तदा (tadā) - then;]
(Then absorbed in anxiety, distressed, pale-faced, emaciated, Damayantī but greatly sighing became then.)
Then Damayantī, distressed, pale-faced, emaciated and deeply anxious, became entirely given to sighing at that time. (03-51-2)
ऊर्ध्वदृष्टिर्ध्यानपरा बभूवोन्मत्तदर्शना। न शय्यासनभोगेषु रतिं विन्दति कर्हिचित् ॥०३-५१-३॥
ūrdhvadr̥ṣṭirdhyānaparā babhūvonmattadarśanā। na śayyāsanabhogeṣu ratiṃ vindati karhicit ॥03-51-3॥
[ऊर्ध्वदृष्टिः (ūrdhvadr̥ṣṭiḥ) - upward-looking; ध्यानपरा (dhyānaparā) - absorbed in meditation; बभूव (babhūva) - became; उन्मत्तदर्शना (unmattadarśanā) - with a mad (delirious) appearance; न (na) - not; शय्या (śayyā) - bed; आसन (āsana) - seat; भोगेषु (bhogeṣu) - among enjoyments; रतिम् (ratim) - pleasure; विन्दति (vindati) - finds; कर्हिचित् (karhicit) - at any time;]
(Upward-looking, absorbed in meditation, she became with a mad appearance. Not in bed, seat, or enjoyments does she find pleasure at any time.)
She became absorbed in meditation, always looking upwards with a delirious appearance. She never finds pleasure in a bed, on a seat, or among any enjoyments. (03-51-3)
न नक्तं न दिवा शेते हा हेति वदती मुहुः। तामस्वस्थां तदाकारां सख्यस्ता जज्ञुरिङ्गितैः ॥०३-५१-४॥
na naktaṃ na divā śete hā heti vadatī muhuḥ. tām asvasthāṃ tad-ākārāṃ sakhyaḥ tā jajñur iṅgitaiḥ ॥03-51-4॥
[न (na) - not; नक्तं (naktaṃ) - at night; न (na) - not; दिवा (divā) - by day; शेते (śete) - she sleeps; हा (hā) - 'ha' (an exclamation of grief); हेति (heti) - 'heti' (an exclamation of distress); वदती (vadatī) - she keeps saying; मुहुः (muhuḥ) - again and again; ताम् (tām) - her; अस्वस्थाम् (asvasthām) - unwell; distressed; तदाकाराम् (tad-ākārām) - in that condition; of that appearance; सख्यः (sakhyaḥ) - (her) friends; ता (tā) - they; जज्ञुः (jajñuḥ) - knew; recognized; इङ्गितैः (iṅgitaiḥ) - by gestures;]
(Not at night, not by day, she sleeps; 'ha', 'heti', she keeps saying again and again. Her, unwell, in that condition, her friends they knew by gestures.)
She neither sleeps at night nor by day; she keeps uttering 'ha' and 'heti' again and again. Her friends recognized her distressed condition by her gestures. (03-51-4)
ततो विदर्भपतये दमयन्त्याः सखीगणः। न्यवेदयत नस्वस्थां दमयन्तीं नरेश्वर ॥०३-५१-५॥
tato vidarbhapateye damayantyāḥ sakhīgaṇaḥ। nyavedayata nasvasthāṁ damayantīṁ nareśvara ॥03-51-5॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; विदर्भपतये (vidarbhapateye) - to the lord of Vidarbha; दमयन्त्याः (damayantyāḥ) - of Damayantī; सखीगणः (sakhīgaṇaḥ) - group of female friends; न्यवेदयत (nyavedayata) - informed; न (na) - not; स्वस्थाम् (svasthām) - well; दमयन्तीम् (damayantīm) - Damayantī; नरेश्वर (nareśvara) - O king; ॥०३-५१-५॥ (॥03-51-5॥) -;]
(Then to the lord of Vidarbha, Damayantī's group of friends informed (him): not well Damayantī, O king.)
Then, O king, Damayantī's group of friends informed the lord of Vidarbha that Damayantī was not well. (03-51-5)
तच्छ्रुत्वा नृपतिर्भीमो दमयन्तीसखीगणात्। चिन्तयामास तत्कार्यं सुमहत्स्वां सुतां प्रति ॥०३-५१-६॥
tac chrutvā nṛpatir bhīmo damayantī-sakhīgaṇāt। cintayām āsa tat kāryaṃ sumahat svāṃ sutāṃ prati॥03-51-6॥
[तत् (tat) - that; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; नृपतिः (nṛpatiḥ) - king; भीमः (bhīmaḥ) - Bhīma; दमयन्ती (damayantī) - Damayantī; सखीगणात् (sakhīgaṇāt) - from the group of friends; चिन्तयाम् (cintayām) - began to think; आस (āsa) - he; तत् (tat) - that; कार्यम् (kāryam) - act; सुमहत् (sumahat) - very great; स्वाम् (svām) - his own; सुताम् (sutām) - daughter; प्रति (prati) - concerning;]
(Having heard that, King Bhīma from Damayantī's companions began to think that very great act concerning his own daughter.)
Having heard this from Damayantī’s group of friends, King Bhīma began to think of that great matter regarding his daughter. (03-51-6)
स समीक्ष्य महीपालः स्वां सुतां प्राप्तयौवनाम्। अपश्यदात्मनः कार्यं दमयन्त्याः स्वयंवरम् ॥०३-५१-७॥
sa samīkṣya mahīpālaḥ svāṃ sutāṃ prāptayauvanām। apaśyadātmanaḥ kāryaṃ damayantyāḥ svayaṃvaram ॥03-51-7॥
[स (sa) - he; समीक्ष्य (samīkṣya) - having considered; महीपालः (mahīpālaḥ) - the king; स्वां (svām) - his own; सुतां (sutām) - daughter; प्राप्तयौवनाम् (prāptayauvanām) - who had attained youth; अपश्यत् (apaśyat) - he saw; आत्मनः (ātmanaḥ) - for himself; कार्यं (kāryam) - duty; दमयन्त्याः (damayantyāḥ) - of Damayantī; स्वयंवरम् (svayaṃvaram) - marriage assembly;]
(He, having considered, the king, his own daughter who had attained youth, saw for himself the duty of Damayantī’s marriage assembly.)
Having considered, the king saw that his own daughter Damayantī had come of age, and realized his duty was to arrange the svayamvara (marriage assembly) for her. (03-51-7)
स संनिपातयामास महीपालान्विशां पते। अनुभूयतामयं वीराः स्वयंवर इति प्रभो ॥०३-५१-८॥
sa saṃnipātayāmāsa mahīpālān viśāṃ pate| anubhūyatām ayaṃ vīrāḥ svayaṃvara iti prabho ॥03-51-8॥
[स (sa) - he; संनिपातयामास (saṃnipātayāmāsa) - caused to assemble; महीपालान् (mahīpālān) - kings; विशां (viśām) - of the people; पते (pate) - O lord; अनुभूयताम् (anubhūyatām) - let it be experienced; अयम् (ayam) - this; वीराः (vīrāḥ) - heroes; स्वयंवर (svayaṃvara) - svayaṃvara (self-choice ceremony); इति (iti) - thus; प्रभो (prabho) - O lord;]
(He caused the kings to assemble, O lord of the people. Let this svayaṃvara be experienced, O heroes—thus, O lord.)
He gathered the kings together, O lord of the people. "Let the heroes experience this svayaṃvara"—so it was said, O lord. (03-51-8)
श्रुत्वा तु पार्थिवाः सर्वे दमयन्त्याः स्वयंवरम्। अभिजग्मुस्तदा भीमं राजानो भीमशासनात् ॥०३-५१-९॥
śrutvā tu pārthivāḥ sarve damayantyāḥ svayaṃvaram। abhijagmustadā bhīmaṃ rājāno bhīmaśāsanāt॥03-51-9॥
[श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; तु (tu) - but; पार्थिवाः (pārthivāḥ) - kings; सर्वे (sarve) - all; दमयन्त्याः (damayantyāḥ) - of Damayantī; स्वयंवरम् (svayaṃvaram) - self-choice (marriage ceremony); अभिजग्मुः (abhijagmuḥ) - approached; तदा (tadā) - then; भीमं (bhīmam) - Bhīma (the king); राजानः (rājānaḥ) - kings; भीमशासनात् (bhīmaśāsanāt) - from Bhīma's invitation/order;]
(Having heard but kings all Damayantī's self-choice, approached then Bhīma kings from Bhīma's invitation.)
But all the kings, having heard of Damayantī's self-choice (svayamvara), then came to Bhīma upon his invitation. (03-51-9)
हस्त्यश्वरथघोषेण नादयन्तो वसुन्धराम्। विचित्रमाल्याभरणैर्बलैर्दृश्यैः स्वलङ्कृतैः ॥०३-५१-१०॥
hasty-aśva-ratha-ghoṣeṇa nādayanto vasundharām। vicitra-mālya-ābharaṇaiḥ balaiḥ dṛśyaiḥ sva-laṅkṛtaiḥ ॥03-51-10॥
[हस्त्यश्वरथघोषेण (hastyaśvarathaghoṣeṇa) - by the sound of elephants, horses, and chariots; नादयन्तः (nādayantaḥ) - making resound; वसुन्धराम् (vasundharām) - earth; विचित्रमाल्याभरणैः (vicitramālyābharaṇaiḥ) - with various garlands and ornaments; बलैः (balaiḥ) - by armies; दृश्यैः (dṛśyaiḥ) - visible; स्वलङ्कृतैः (svalaṅkṛtaiḥ) - well-adorned;]
(By the sound of elephants, horses, and chariots, making the earth resound; with various garlands and ornaments, with visible, well-adorned armies.)
Making the earth resound with the noise of elephants, horses, and chariots, with their armies that were well-adorned and decorated with various garlands and ornaments, and were visible. (03-51-10)
एतस्मिन्नेव काले तु पुराणावृषिसत्तमौ। अटमानौ महात्मानाविन्द्रलोकमितो गतौ ॥०३-५१-११॥
etasmínneva kāle tu purāṇāv ṛṣisattamau| aṭamānau mahātmānāv indralokam ito gatau॥03-51-11॥
[एतस्मिन्नेव (etasmín eva) - in this very (time); काले (kāle) - time; तु (tu) - but; पुराणौ (purāṇau) - ancient (two); ऋषिसत्तमौ (ṛṣisattamau) - the best among sages (dual); अटमानौ (aṭamānau) - wandering (dual); महात्मानौ (mahātmānau) - great-souled (dual); इन्द्रलोकम् (indralokam) - Indra's world; इतो (ito) - from here; गतौ (gatau) - went (dual);]
(In this very time but the two ancient, best among sages, wandering, great-souled, to Indra's world, from here, went.)
But in this very time, the two ancient, great-souled sages, the best of seers, who were wandering, went from here to Indra's world. (03-51-11)
नारदः पर्वतश्चैव महात्मानौ महाव्रतौ। देवराजस्य भवनं विविशाते सुपूजितौ ॥०३-५१-१२॥
nāradaḥ parvataścaiva mahātmānau mahāvratau। devarājasya bhavanaṃ viviśāte supūjitau॥ 03-51-12॥
[नारदः (nāradaḥ) - Nārada; पर्वतः (parvataḥ) - Parvata; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; महात्मानौ (mahātmānau) - the great-souled (two); महाव्रतौ (mahāvratau) - the great vow-holders (two); देवराजस्य (devarājasya) - of the king of the gods; भवनम् (bhavanam) - the abode; विविशाते (viviśāte) - entered (the two); सुपूजितौ (supūjitau) - well-honored (the two);]
(Nārada, Parvata and indeed the two great-souled ones, the two great vow-holders, of the king of the gods the abode they two entered, well-honored (they two).)
Nārada and Parvata, both great-souled and of great vows, well-honored, entered the abode of the king of the gods. (03-51-12)
तावर्चित्वा सहस्राक्षस्ततः कुशलमव्ययम्। पप्रच्छानामयं चापि तयोः सर्वगतं विभुः ॥०३-५१-१३॥
tāvarcitvā sahasrākṣas tataḥ kuśalam avyayam। papracchānāmayaṃ cāpi tayoḥ sarvagataṃ vibhuḥ॥03-51-13॥
[तावर्चित्वा (tā arcitvā) - to them, having honored; सहस्राक्षः (sahasrākṣaḥ) - the thousand-eyed (Indra); ततः (tataḥ) - then; कुशलम् (kuśalam) - well-being; अव्ययम् (avyayam) - imperishable; पप्रच्छ (papraccha) - he inquired; अनामयम् (anāmayam) - freedom from trouble; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; तयोः (tayoḥ) - of the two; सर्वगतं (sarvagatam) - all-pervading; विभुः (vibhuḥ) - the mighty one;]
(To them, having honored, the thousand-eyed (Indra) then well-being imperishable he inquired, freedom from trouble also, of the two, all-pervading, the mighty one.)
After honoring them, the thousand-eyed Indra then inquired of both about their imperishable well-being and also about their complete freedom from trouble. (03-51-13)

आवयोः कुशलं देव सर्वत्रगतमीश्वर। लोके च मघवन्कृत्स्ने नृपाः कुशलिनो विभो ॥०३-५१-१४॥
āvayoḥ kuśalaṁ deva sarvatragata-mīśvara। loke ca maghavan-kṛtsne nṛpāḥ kuśalino vibho ॥03-51-14॥
[आवयोः (āvayoḥ) - of us two; कुशलं (kuśalam) - well-being; देव (deva) - O god; सर्वत्रगत (sarvatragata) - omnipresent; gone everywhere; मीश्वर (mīśvara) - O lord; लोके (loke) - in the world; च (ca) - and; मघवन् (maghavan) - O Maghavan (Indra); कृत्स्ने (kṛtsne) - in all (entirety); नृपाः (nṛpāḥ) - kings; कुशलिनः (kuśalinaḥ) - well (in well-being); विभो (vibho) - O mighty;]
(Of us two well-being, O god, omnipresent lord; in the world and O Maghavan, in the entirety, kings are well, O mighty.)
O god, omnipresent lord, both of us are well. And, O Maghavan, all the kings in the world are also well, O mighty one. (03-51-14)

नारदस्य वचः श्रुत्वा पप्रच्छ बलवृत्रहा। धर्मज्ञाः पृथिवीपालास्त्यक्तजीवितयोधिनः ॥०३-५१-१५॥
nāradasya vacaḥ śrutvā papraccha balavṛtrahā। dharmajñāḥ pṛthivīpālāstyaktajīvitayodhinaḥ॥03-51-15॥
[नारदस्य (nāradasya) - of Nārada; वचः (vacaḥ) - words; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; पप्रच्छ (papraccha) - asked; बलवृत्रहा (balavṛtrahā) - the slayer of Bala and Vṛtra; धर्मज्ञाः (dharmajñāḥ) - knowers of dharma; पृथिवीपालाः (pṛthivīpālāḥ) - kings of the earth; त्यक्तजीवितयोधिनः (tyaktajīvitayodhinaḥ) - warriors who have abandoned (concern for) life;]
(Having heard the words of Nārada, the slayer of Bala and Vṛtra asked: ‘O knowers of dharma, kings of the earth, warriors who have abandoned (concern for) life.’)
Having heard Nārada's words, the slayer of Bala and Vṛtra asked: ‘O righteous kings of the earth, warriors who fight without regard for their lives.’ (03-51-15)
शस्त्रेण निधनं काले ये गच्छन्त्यपराङ्मुखाः। अयं लोकोऽक्षयस्तेषां यथैव मम कामधुक् ॥०३-५१-१६॥
śastreṇa nidhanaṁ kāle ye gacchanty-aparāṅmukhāḥ। ayaṁ loko'kṣayas teṣāṁ yathaiva mama kāmadhuk॥03-51-16॥
[शस्त्रेण (śastreṇa) - by weapon; निधनं (nidhanaṁ) - death; काले (kāle) - in (due) time; ये (ye) - who; गच्छन्ति (gacchanti) - go; अपराङ्मुखाः (aparāṅmukhāḥ) - who have turned (their) backs; अयं (ayaṁ) - this; लोकः (lokaḥ) - world; अक्षयः (akṣayaḥ) - imperishable; तेषां (teṣāṁ) - for them; यथा (yathā) - just as; एव (eva) - certainly; मम (mama) - to me; कामधुक् (kāmadhuk) - wish-granting cow;]
(By weapon death in (due) time who go turning back; this world imperishable for them, just as certainly to me wish-granting cow.)
Those who are slain by weapons in battle as they turn their backs, for them this world becomes imperishable, just as is a wish-granting cow to me. (03-51-16)
क्व नु ते क्षत्रियाः शूरा न हि पश्यामि तानहम्। आगच्छतो महीपालानतिथीन्दयितान्मम ॥०३-५१-१७॥
kva nu te kṣatriyāḥ śūrā na hi paśyāmi tān aham। āgacchato mahīpālān atithīn dayitān mama ॥03-51-17॥
[क्व (kva) - where; नु (nu) - indeed; ते (te) - your; क्षत्रियाः (kṣatriyāḥ) - kṣatriyas; शूराः (śūrāḥ) - heroes; न (na) - not; हि (hi) - indeed; पश्यामि (paśyāmi) - I see; तान् (tān) - those; अहम् (aham) - I; आगच्छतः (āgacchataḥ) - coming; महीपालान् (mahīpālān) - kings; अतिथीन् (atithīn) - guests; दयितान् (dayitān) - beloved; मम (mama) - my;]
(Where indeed your kṣatriya heroes? Not indeed I see those I, coming kings, guests, beloved, my.)
Where now are your heroic kṣatriyas? I do not see those kings, guests, and beloved ones of mine coming. (03-51-17)
एवमुक्तस्तु शक्रेण नारदः प्रत्यभाषत। शृणु मे भगवन्येन न दृश्यन्ते महीक्षितः ॥०३-५१-१८॥
evam-uktas tu śakreṇa nāradaḥ pratyabhāṣata। śṛṇu me bhagavan yena na dṛśyante mahīkṣitaḥ ॥03-51-18॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्तः (uktaḥ) - addressed; spoken to; तु (tu) - but; however; शक्रेण (śakreṇa) - by Śakra (Indra); नारदः (nāradaḥ) - Nārada; प्रत्यभाषत (pratyabhāṣata) - replied; answered; शृणु (śṛṇu) - listen; मे (me) - to me; my; भगवन् (bhagavan) - O venerable one; O lord; येन (yena) - by which; by whom; न (na) - not; दृश्यन्ते (dṛśyante) - are seen; are visible; महीक्षितः (mahīkṣitaḥ) - the kings (lords of the earth);]
(Thus addressed but by Śakra, Nārada replied. Listen to me O venerable one, by which not are seen the kings.)
Thus, when addressed by Śakra, Nārada replied: "Listen to me, O revered one, why the kings are not to be seen." (03-51-18)
विदर्भराजदुहिता दमयन्तीति विश्रुता। रूपेण समतिक्रान्ता पृथिव्यां सर्वयोषितः ॥०३-५१-१९॥
vidarbharājaduhitā damayantīti viśrutā। rūpeṇa samatikrāntā pṛthivyāṃ sarvayoṣitaḥ ॥03-51-19॥
[विदर्भराजदुहिता (vidarbharājaduhitā) - the daughter of the king of Vidarbha; दमयन्ती (damayantī) - Damayanti; इति (iti) - thus; विश्रुता (viśrutā) - renowned; रूपेण (rūpeṇa) - by beauty; समतिक्रान्ता (samatikrāntā) - surpassed; पृथिव्यां (pṛthivyāṃ) - on earth; सर्वयोषितः (sarvayoṣitaḥ) - all women;]
(The daughter of the king of Vidarbha, Damayanti, thus renowned, by beauty surpassed on earth all women.)
Damayanti, the daughter of the king of Vidarbha, is renowned, having surpassed all women of the earth in beauty. (03-51-19)
तस्याः स्वयंवरः शक्र भविता नचिरादिव। तत्र गच्छन्ति राजानो राजपुत्राश्च सर्वशः ॥०३-५१-२०॥
tasyāḥ svayaṁvaraḥ śakra bhavitā nacirādiva। tatra gacchanti rājāno rājaputrāś ca sarvaśaḥ॥03-51-20॥
[तस्याः (tasyāḥ) - of her; स्वयंवरः (svayaṁvaraḥ) - self-choice (wedding); शक्र (śakra) - O Śakra; भविता (bhavitā) - will be; नचिरादिव (nacirādiva) - as if soon; तत्र (tatra) - there; गच्छन्ति (gacchanti) - will go; राजानः (rājānaḥ) - kings; राजपुत्राः (rājaputrāḥ) - princes; च (ca) - and; सर्वशः (sarvaśaḥ) - from all sides;]
(Of her self-choice (wedding), O Śakra, will be, as if soon. There will go kings, princes and from all sides.)
O Śakra, her self-choice ceremony will soon take place. Kings and princes from all sides will go there. (03-51-20)
तां रत्नभूतां लोकस्य प्रार्थयन्तो महीक्षितः। काङ्क्षन्ति स्म विशेषेण बलवृत्रनिषूदन ॥०३-५१-२१॥
tāṃ ratnabhūtāṃ lokasya prārthayanto mahīkṣitaḥ। kāṅkṣanti sma viśeṣeṇa balavṛtraniṣūdana ॥03-51-21॥
[तां (tāṃ) (tāṃ) - her; रत्नभूतां (ratnabhūtāṃ) (ratnabhūtāṃ) - who has become a jewel; लोकस्य (lokasya) (lokasya) - of the world; प्रार्थयन्तः (prārthayantaḥ) (prārthayantaḥ) - desiring; महीक्षितः (mahīkṣitaḥ) (mahīkṣitaḥ) - kings; काङ्क्षन्ति (kāṅkṣanti) (kāṅkṣanti) - were longing for; स्म (sma) (sma) - indeed; विशेषेण (viśeṣeṇa) (viśeṣeṇa) - especially; बलवृत्रनिषूदन (balavṛtraniṣūdana) (balavṛtraniṣūdana) - slayer of strong enemies;]

एतस्मिन्कथ्यमाने तु लोकपालाश्च साग्निकाः। आजग्मुर्देवराजस्य समीपममरोत्तमाः ॥०३-५१-२२॥
etasmin kathyamāne tu lokapālāś ca sāgnikāḥ। ājagmur devarājasya samīpam amarottamāḥ॥03-51-22॥

(But while this was being spoken, the guardians of the world with Agni, the best among immortals, came to the presence of the king of the gods.)
While this was being told, the guardians of the world together with Agni, the foremost immortals, arrived near the king of the gods. (03-51-22)
ततस्तच्छुश्रुवुः सर्वे नारदस्य वचो महत्। श्रुत्वा चैवाब्रुवन्हृष्टा गच्छामो वयमप्युत ॥०३-५१-२३॥
tatas tac chuśruvuḥ sarve nāradasya vaco mahat। śrutvā caivābruvanhṛṣṭā gacchāmo vayam apy uta॥03-51-23॥

(Then that they heard all, of Nārada the great speech; having heard and indeed they spoke joyful: let us go we also indeed.)
Then all of them heard Nārada's great words; and having heard, the joyful ones said: 'Let us also go indeed.' (03-51-23)
ततः सर्वे महाराज सगणाः सहवाहनाः। विदर्भानभितो जग्मुर्यत्र सर्वे महीक्षितः ॥०३-५१-२४॥
tataḥ sarve mahārāja sagaṇāḥ sahavāhanāḥ। vidarbhānabhito jagmuryatra sarve mahīkṣitaḥ॥03-51-24॥

(Then all, O great king, with their groups, with their vehicles, towards the Vidarbhas went, where all the kings (were).)
Then all of them, O great king, along with their entourages and vehicles, went towards the Vidarbhas, where all the kings had gathered. (03-51-24)
नलोऽपि राजा कौन्तेय श्रुत्वा राज्ञां समागमम्। अभ्यगच्छददीनात्मा दमयन्तीमनुव्रतः ॥०३-५१-२५॥
nalo'pi rājā kaunteya śrutvā rājñāṃ samāgamam। abhyagacchadadīn-ātmā damayantīm-anuvrataḥ ॥03-51-25॥

(Nala also, O son of Kunti, having heard the meeting of kings, approached, not dejected in mind, Damayantī, devoted to (her).)

अथ देवाः पथि नलं ददृशुर्भूतले स्थितम्। साक्षादिव स्थितं मूर्त्या मन्मथं रूपसम्पदा ॥०३-५१-२६॥
atha devāḥ pathi nalaṁ dadṛśur bhūtale sthitam। sākṣād iva sthitaṁ mūrtyā manmathaṁ rūpasampadā ॥03-51-26॥
[अथ (atha) - then; देवाः (devāḥ) - the gods; पथि (pathi) - on the path; नलम् (nalaṁ) - Nala; ददृशुः (dadṛśuḥ) - saw; भूतले (bhūtale) - on the earth; स्थितम् (sthitam) - standing; साक्षात् (sākṣāt) - directly; इव (iva) - as if; स्थितम् (sthitam) - standing; मूर्त्या (mūrtyā) - in form; मन्मथम् (manmatham) - Kāma (the god of love); रूपसम्पदा (rūpasampadā) - with beauty;]
(Then the gods on the path saw Nala standing on the earth, standing directly as if Kāma in form with beauty.)

तं दृष्ट्वा लोकपालास्ते भ्राजमानं यथा रविम्। तस्थुर्विगतसङ्कल्पा विस्मिता रूपसम्पदा ॥०३-५१-२७॥
taṃ dṛṣṭvā lokapālas te bhrājamānaṃ yathā ravim। tasthur vigatasaṅkalpā vismitā rūpasampadā ॥03-51-27॥

(Him having seen, the guardians of the worlds, they, shining like the sun, stood, with thoughts departed, astonished by his beauty.)

ततोऽन्तरिक्षे विष्टभ्य विमानानि दिवौकसः। अब्रुवन्नैषधं राजन्नवतीर्य नभस्तलात् ॥०३-५१-२८॥
tato'ntarikṣe viṣṭabhya vimānāni divaukasaḥ। abruvannaiṣadhaṃ rājannavatīrya nabhastalāt ॥03-51-28॥

भो भो नैषध राजेन्द्र नल सत्यव्रतो भवान्। अस्माकं कुरु साहाय्यं दूतो भव नरोत्तम ॥०३-५१-२९॥
