Bṛhadaśva said.
तेभ्यः प्रतिज्ञाय नलः करिष्य इति भारत। अथैनान्परिपप्रच्छ कृताञ्जलिरवस्थितः ॥०३-५२-१॥
tebhyaḥ pratijñāya nalaḥ kariṣya iti bhārata. atha enān paripapraccha kṛtāñjalir avasthitaḥ ॥03-52-1॥
[तेभ्यः (tebhyaḥ) - to them; प्रतिज्ञाय (pratijñāya) - having promised; नलः (nalaḥ) - Nala; करिष्य (kariṣya) - I will do; इति (iti) - thus; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata; अथ (atha) - then; एनान् (enān) - them; परिपप्रच्छ (paripapraccha) - he thoroughly asked; कृताञ्जलिः (kṛtāñjaliḥ) - with folded hands; अवस्थितः (avasthitaḥ) - having stood;]
(To them having promised, Nala (said) 'I will do,' thus, O Bhārata. Then, them he thoroughly asked, with folded hands having stood.)
Having promised to them, Nala said 'I will do,' O Bhārata. Then, standing with folded hands, he earnestly questioned them. (03-52-1)
के वै भवन्तः कश्चासौ यस्याहं दूत ईप्सितः। किं च तत्र मया कार्यं कथयध्वं यथातथम् ॥०३-५२-२॥
ke vai bhavantaḥ kaścāsau yasyāhaṁ dūta īpsitaḥ। kiṁ ca tatra mayā kāryaṁ kathayadhvaṁ yathātatham ॥03-52-2॥
[के (ke) - who (plural); वै (vai) - indeed; भवन्तः (bhavantaḥ) - you (honorific plural); कश्च (kaś ca) - and who; असौ (asau) - that (person); यस்ய (yasya) - of whom; अहं (ahaṁ) - I; दूत (dūta) - messenger; ईप्सितः (īpsitaḥ) - desired; किं (kiṁ) - what; च (ca) - and; तत्र (tatra) - there; मया (mayā) - by me; कार्यं (kāryaṁ) - task; कथयध्वं (kathayadhvaṁ) - tell (you all); यथातथम् (yathātatham) - as it is;]
(Who indeed (are) you? And who is that one, of whom I (am) desired (as) messenger? What also there by me (is the) task? Tell (me) as it is.)
Who indeed are you all? And who is that person for whom I am desired as a messenger? And what task is there for me? Tell me just as it is. (03-52-2)
एवमुक्ते नैषधेन मघवान्प्रत्यभाषत। अमरान्वै निबोधास्मान्दमयन्त्यर्थमागतान् ॥०३-५२-३॥
evam-ukte naiṣadhena maghavān pratyabhāṣata। amarān vai nibodha asmān damayanty-artham āgatān॥03-52-3॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्ते (ukte) - having been spoken; नैषधेन (naiṣadhena) - by Naisadha (Nala); मघवान् (maghavān) - Maghavan (Indra); प्रत्यभाषत (pratyabhāṣata) - spoke in return; अमरान् (amarān) - immortals (gods); वै (vai) - indeed; निबोध (nibodha) - know; अस्मान् (asmān) - us; दमयन्त्यर्थम् (damayanty-artham) - for Damayantī's sake; आगतान् (āgatān) - who have come;]
(Thus, when it was spoken by Naisadha, Maghavan spoke in return: "Know the immortals indeed, us, who have come for Damayantī's sake." (03-52-3))
After this was spoken by Naisadha, Maghavan replied, "Know us to be the immortals who have indeed come here for Damayantī's sake." (03-52-3)
अहमिन्द्रोऽयमग्निश्च तथैवायमपाम्पतिः। शरीरान्तकरो नॄणां यमोऽयमपि पार्थिव ॥०३-५२-४॥
aham indro 'yam agniś ca tathaiva ayam apāṃ-patiḥ। śarīrāntakaro nṝṇāṃ yamo 'yam api pārthiva ॥03-52-4॥
[अहम् (aham) - I;—; इन्द्रः (indraḥ) - Indra (the chief of gods);—; अयम् (ayam) - this;—; अग्निः (agniḥ) - Agni (the fire god);—; च (ca) - and;—; तथैव (tathaiva) - likewise;—; अयम् (ayam) - this;—; अपाम् (apām) - of waters;—; पतिः (patiḥ) - the lord;—; शरीर-अन्तकरः (śarīra-anta-karaḥ) - destroyer of the end of the body;—; नॄणाम् (nṝṇām) - of men;—; यमः (yamaḥ) - Yama (god of death);—; अयम् (ayam) - this;—; अपि (api) - also;—; पार्थिव (pārthiva) - O king;—;]
(I Indra this, and Agni likewise, this lord of waters. Destroyer of the end of the body of men, Yama, this, also, O king.)
O king, I am Indra; this is Agni, likewise this is the lord of waters. This is Yama, the destroyer of the bodies of men, as well.
स वै त्वमागतानस्मान्दमयन्त्यै निवेदय। लोकपालाः सहेन्द्रास्त्वां समायान्ति दिदृक्षवः ॥०३-५२-५॥
sa vai tvam āgatān asmān damayantyai nivedaya। lokapālāḥ sahendras tvāṃ samāyānti didṛkṣavaḥ॥03-52-5॥
[स (sa) - he; the same; वै (vai) - indeed; त्वम् (tvam) - you; आगतान् (āgatān) - arrived; अस्मान् (asmān) - us; दमयन्त्यै (damayantyai) - to Damayantī; निवेदय (nivedaya) - announce; लोकपालाः (lokapālāḥ) - the guardians of the world; सहेन्द्राः (sahendrāḥ) - together with Indra; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; समायान्ति (samāyānti) - are coming together; दिदृक्षवः (didṛkṣavaḥ) - desirous to behold;]
(He indeed, you announce us who have arrived to Damayantī. The guardians of the world along with Indra are coming to you, wishing to see.)
So, you must announce us, who have arrived, to Damayantī. The guardians of the world with Indra are coming to you, desiring to see you. (03-52-5)
प्राप्तुमिच्छन्ति देवास्त्वां शक्रोऽग्निर्वरुणो यमः। तेषामन्यतमं देवं पतित्वे वरयस्व ह ॥०३-५२-६॥
prāptum icchanti devās tvāṁ śakro'gnir varuṇo yamaḥ। teṣām anyatamaṁ devaṁ patitve varayasva ha॥03-52-6॥
[प्राप्तुम् (prāptum) (prāptum) - to obtain; इच्छन्ति (icchanti) (icchanti) - desire; देवाः (devāḥ) (devāḥ) - the gods; त्वाम् (tvām) (tvām) - you; शक्रः (śakraḥ) (śakraḥ) - Indra; अग्निः (agniḥ) (agniḥ) - Agni; वरुणः (varuṇaḥ) (varuṇaḥ) - Varuṇa; यमः (yamaḥ) (yamaḥ) - Yama; तेषाम् (teṣām) (teṣām) - of them; अन्यतमम् (anyatamam) (anyatamam) - any one; देवम् (devam) (devam) - god; पतित्वे (patitve) (patitve) - for husbandhood; वरयस्व (varayasva) (varayasva) - choose; ह (ha) (ha) - indeed;]
(To obtain, desire the gods you—Śakra, Agni, Varuṇa, Yama; of them, any one god as husband, choose, indeed.)
Śakra, Agni, Varuṇa, and Yama—the gods desire to obtain you. Of them, indeed, choose any one god as your husband. (03-52-6)
एवमुक्तः स शक्रेण नलः प्राञ्जलिरब्रवीत्। एकार्थसमवेतं मां न प्रेषयितुमर्हथ ॥०३-५२-७॥
evam-uktaḥ sa śakreṇa nalaḥ prāñjalir abravīt। ekārtha-samavetaṃ māṃ na preṣayitum arhatha ॥03-52-7॥

(Thus addressed, he by Śakra Nala, with joined palms, said: "United in a single purpose me, not to send, you ought." (03-52-7))
Thus addressed by Śakra, Nala, with joined palms, said: "Since we are united in one purpose, you ought not to send me." (03-52-7)

The gods said.
करिष्य इति संश्रुत्य पूर्वमस्मासु नैषध। न करिष्यसि कस्मात्त्वं व्रज नैषध माचिरम् ॥०३-५२-८॥
kariṣya iti saṃśrutya pūrvamasmāsu naiṣadha। na kariṣyasi kasmāttvaṃ vraja naiṣadha māciram॥03-52-8॥
[करिष्य (kariṣya) - you will do; — इति (iti) - thus; — संश्रुत्य (saṃśrutya) - having promised; — पूर्वम् (pūrvam) - before; — अस्मासु (asmāsu) - to us; — नैषध (naiṣadha) - O son of Nala; — न (na) - not; — करिष्यसि (kariṣyasi) - you will do; — कस्मात् (kasmāt) - why; — त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; — व्रज (vraja) - go; — नैषध (naiṣadha) - O son of Nala; — मा (mā) - do not; — अचिरम् (aciram) - delay; —;]
(You will do thus—having promised before to us, O Naiṣadha; not you will do—why, you go, O Naiṣadha, do not delay.)
You had previously promised us that you would act, O Naiṣadha; why will you not do it? Go at once, O Naiṣadha, do not delay. (03-52-8)

एवमुक्तः स देवैस्तैर्नैषधः पुनरब्रवीत्। सुरक्षितानि वेश्मानि प्रवेष्टुं कथमुत्सहे ॥०३-५२-९॥
evam-uktaḥ sa devais taira naiṣadhaḥ punar abravīt। surakṣitāni veśmāni praveṣṭuṃ katham utsahe ॥03-52-9॥
[एवमुक्तः (evam-uktaḥ) - thus addressed; स (sa) - he; दैवैस्तैः (devais taiḥ) - by those gods; नैषधः (naiṣadhaḥ) - the king of Niṣadha; पुनरब्रवीत् (punar abravīt) - again said; सुरक्षितानि (surakṣitāni) - well-protected; वेश्मानि (veśmāni) - mansions; प्रवेष्टुं (praveṣṭuṃ) - to enter; कथम् (katham) - how; उत्सहे (utsahe) - am (I) able;]
(Thus addressed, he by those gods, the king of Niṣadha again said: "Well-protected mansions to enter, how am I able?" (03-52-9))
Thus addressed by those gods, the king of Niṣadha again said: "How am I able to enter the well-protected mansions?" (03-52-9)
प्रवेक्ष्यसीति तं शक्रः पुनरेवाभ्यभाषत। जगाम स तथेत्युक्त्वा दमयन्त्या निवेशनम् ॥०३-५२-१०॥
pravekṣyasīti taṃ śakraḥ punarevābhyabhāṣata। jagāma sa tathetyuktvā damayantyā niveśanam ॥03-52-10॥
[प्रवेक्ष्यसीति (pravekṣyasīti) - 'will you enter,' thus; (iti – thus; pravekṣyasi – you will enter;) तं (taṃ) - him; (accusative singular of 'tat') ; शक्रः (śakraḥ) - Śakra; (epithet of Indra); पुनः (punaḥ) - again; एव (eva) - indeed; अभ्यभाषत (abhyabhāṣata) - addressed; spoke to; जगाम (jagāma) - he went; स (sa) - he; तथेत्युक्त्वा (tathetyuktvā) - having said 'so be it'; (tathā – so, iti – thus, uktvā – having said;) दमयन्त्या (damayantyā) - to Damayantī; (instrumental or genitive singular) निवेशनम् (niveśanam) - dwelling; house;]
('Will you enter?'—thus, Śakra again indeed addressed him. He went, having said 'so be it', to Damayantī's dwelling.)
Śakra again addressed him, saying, 'Will you enter?' Having replied, 'So be it,' he went to Damayantī's residence. (03-52-10)
ददर्श तत्र वैदर्भीं सखीगणसमावृताम्। देदीप्यमानां वपुषा श्रिया च वरवर्णिनीम् ॥०३-५२-११॥
dadarśa tatra vaidarbhīṃ sakhīgaṇasamāvṛtām। dedīpyamānāṃ vapuṣā śriyā ca varavarṇinīm॥03-52-11॥
[ददर्श (dadarśa) - he saw; तत्र (tatra) - there; वैदर्भीं (vaidarbhīm) - the princess of Vidarbha; सखीगणसमावृताम् (sakhīgaṇasamāvṛtām) - surrounded by a group of female friends; देदीप्यमानां (dedīpyamānām) - shining; वपुषा (vapuṣā) - by form (with her bodily beauty); श्रिया (śriyā) - by splendor; च (ca) - and; वरवर्णिनीम् (varavarṇinīm) - of excellent complexion (the beautiful one);]
(He saw there the princess of Vidarbha, surrounded by a group of female friends, shining with form, with splendor, and of excellent complexion.)
He saw there the princess of Vidarbha, surrounded by her female companions, radiant in appearance and splendor, a woman of exquisite beauty. (03-52-11)
अतीव सुकुमाराङ्गीं तनुमध्यां सुलोचनाम्। आक्षिपन्तीमिव च भाः शशिनः स्वेन तेजसा ॥०३-५२-१२॥
atīva sukumārāṅgīṃ tanumadhyāṃ sulocanām। ākṣipantīm iva ca bhāḥ śaśinaḥ svena tejasā॥03-52-12॥
[अतीव (atīva) - exceedingly; सुकुमाराङ्गीं (sukumārāṅgīm) - with very delicate limbs; तनुमध्यां (tanumadhyām) - with a slender waist; सुलोचनाम् (sulocanām) - with beautiful eyes; आक्षिपन्तीम् (ākṣipantīm) - as if outshining; इव (iva) - like; च (ca) - and; भाः (bhāḥ) - the brightness; शशिनः (śaśinaḥ) - of the moon; स्वेन (svena) - with her own; तेजसा (tejasā) - splendor;]
(Exceedingly with very delicate limbs, with a slender waist, with beautiful eyes; as if outshining like (the) brightness of the moon with her own splendor.)
With exceedingly delicate limbs, a slender waist, and beautiful eyes, she seemed to outshine even the brightness of the moon with her own splendor. (03-52-12)
तस्य दृष्ट्वैव ववृधे कामस्तां चारुहासिनीम्। सत्यं चिकीर्षमाणस्तु धारयामास हृच्छयम् ॥०३-५२-१३॥
tasya dṛṣṭvaiva vavṛdhe kāmas tāṃ cāruhāsinīm। satyaṃ cikīrṣamāṇas tu dhārayāmāsa hṛcchayam ॥03-52-13॥
[तस्य (tasya) - of him; दृष्ट्वैव (dṛṣṭvaiva) - having just seen; ववृधे (vavṛdhe) - was increased; कामः (kāmaḥ) - desire; तां (tāṃ) - her; चारुहासिनीम् (cāruhāsinīm) - the charming-smiling one; सत्यं (satyaṃ) - truth; चिकीर्षमाणः (cikīrṣamāṇaḥ) - wishing to do (intend to perform); तु (tu) - but; धारयामास (dhārayāmāsa) - he bore (controlled); हृच्छयम् (hṛcchayam) - heart's desire;]
(Of him having just seen, was increased desire for her, the charming-smiling one; wanting to do (the) truth, but, he bore the heart's desire.)
Just seeing her, his desire for the charming-smiling one increased; but wishing to uphold the truth, he restrained the longing in his heart. (03-52-13)
ततस्ता नैषधं दृष्ट्वा सम्भ्रान्ताः परमाङ्गनाः। आसनेभ्यः समुत्पेतुस्तेजसा तस्य धर्षिताः ॥०३-५२-१४॥
tatastā naiṣadhaṁ dṛṣṭvā sambhrāntāḥ paramāṅganāḥ। āsanebhyaḥ samutpetustejasā tasya dharṣitāḥ ॥03-52-14॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; ता (tā) - those (feminine); नैषधम् (naiṣadam) - Naiṣadha (Nala); दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; सम्भ्रान्ताः (sambhrāntāḥ) - agitated; परमाङ्गनाः (paramāṅganāḥ) - the foremost women; आसनेभ्यः (āsanebhyaḥ) - from (their) seats; समुत्पेतुः (samutpetuḥ) - arose (they); तेजसा (tejasā) - by brilliance; तस्य (tasya) - of him; धर्षिताः (dharṣitāḥ) - overpowered;]
(Then those (foremost) women, having seen Naiṣadha (Nala), agitated, from their seats arose; by his brilliance, of him, overpowered.)
Then, having seen Nala, the Naiṣadha, those preeminent women, disturbed and overpowered by his brilliance, rose from their seats. (03-52-14)
प्रशशंसुश्च सुप्रीता नलं ता विस्मयान्विताः। न चैनमभ्यभाषन्त मनोभिस्त्वभ्यचिन्तयन् ॥०३-५२-१५॥
praśaśaṁsuś ca suprītā nalaṁ tā vismayānvitāḥ। na ca enam abhyabhāṣanta manobhis tv abhyacintayan ॥03-52-15॥
[प्रशशंसुः (praśaśaṁsuḥ) - they praised; च (ca) - and; सुप्रीताः (suprītāḥ) - very pleased; नलम् (nalaṁ) - Nala; ता (tā) - they; विस्मय-अन्विताः (vismaya-anvitāḥ) - filled with astonishment; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; एनम् (enam) - him; अभ्यभाषन्त (abhyabhāṣanta) - they addressed; मनोभिः (manobhiḥ) - with (their) minds; त्व् (tv) - but; अभ्यचिन्तयन् (abhyacintayan) - they considered;]
(They praised and, very pleased, Nala; they, filled with astonishment, not and him addressed; with minds but they considered.)
The women, greatly pleased and filled with astonishment, praised Nala. However, they did not address him, but contemplated him in their minds. (03-52-15)
अहो रूपमहो कान्तिरहो धैर्यं महात्मनः। कोऽयं देवो नु यक्षो नु गन्धर्वो नु भविष्यति ॥०३-५२-१६॥
aho rūpamahо kāntirahо dhairyaṃ mahātmanaḥ। ko'yaṃ devo nu yakṣo nu gandharvo nu bhaviṣyati ॥03-52-16॥
[अहो (aho) - indeed; रूपमहो (rūpam aho) - beauty indeed; कान्तिरहो (kāntir aho) - splendor indeed; धैर्यं (dhairyaṃ) - courage; महात्मनः (mahātmanaḥ) - of the great-souled one; कः (kaḥ) - who; अयम् (ayam) - this (person); देवः (devaḥ) - god; नु (nu) - indeed; यक्षः (yakṣaḥ) - yakṣa; नु (nu) - indeed; गन्धर्वः (gandharvaḥ) - gandharva; नु (nu) - indeed; भविष्यति (bhaviṣyati) - will be;]
(Indeed, what beauty, indeed, what splendor, indeed, what courage of the great-souled one! Who is this—god indeed? yakṣa indeed? gandharva indeed—will be?)
How beautiful, how radiant, how courageous is this great-souled one! Who is he? Will he be a god, a yakṣa, or a gandharva? (03-52-16)
न त्वेनं शक्नुवन्ति स्म व्याहर्तुमपि किञ्चन। तेजसा धर्षिताः सर्वा लज्जावत्यो वराङ्गनाः ॥०३-५२-१७॥
na tv enaṃ śaknuvanti sma vyāhartum api kiñcana। tejasā dharṣitāḥ sarvā lajjāvatyo varāṅganāḥ॥03-52-17॥
[न (na) - not; तु (tu) - but; एनम् (enaṃ) - him; शक्नुवन्ति (śaknuvanti) - are able; स्म (sma) - indeed (past tense marker); व्याहर्तुम् (vyāhartum) - to speak; अपि (api) - even; किञ्चन (kiñcana) - anything; तेजसा (tejasā) - by (his) splendor; धर्षिताः (dharṣitāḥ) - overpowered; सर्वाः (sarvāḥ) - all; लज्जावत्यः (lajjāvatyaḥ) - modest; वराङ्गनाः (varāṅganāḥ) - noble women;]
(But not indeed were they able to speak anything to him; by (his) splendor all the noble modest women were overpowered.)
But none of the noble, modest women could say anything to him; all were overpowered by his splendor. (03-52-17)
अथैनं स्मयमानेव स्मितपूर्वाभिभाषिणी। दमयन्ती नलं वीरमभ्यभाषत विस्मिता ॥०३-५२-१८॥
athainaṁ smayamāneva smitapūrvābhibhāṣiṇī। damayantī nalaṁ vīram abhyabhāṣata vismitā॥03-52-18॥
[अथ (atha) - then; एनम् (enam) - him; स्मयमाना (smayamānā) - smiling (feminine); इव (iva) - as if; स्मितपूर्व (smita-pūrva) - with (a) gentle smile (at first); अभिभाषिणी (abhibhāṣiṇī) - speaking (she who speaks); दमयन्ती (damayantī) - Damayantī; नलम् (nalam) - Nala; वीरम् (vīram) - the hero; अभ्यभाषत (abhyabhāṣata) - addressed (spoke to); विस्मिता (vismitā) - astonished (amazed);]
(Then her, as if smiling, with a gentle smile at first, speaking, Damayantī to Nala, the hero, addressed (him), astonished.)
Then Damayantī, appearing as if she were smiling, with a gentle smile and astonished, spoke to the heroic Nala. (03-52-18)
कस्त्वं सर्वानवद्याङ्ग मम हृच्छयवर्धन। प्राप्तोऽस्यमरवद्वीर ज्ञातुमिच्छामि तेऽनघ ॥०३-५२-१९॥
kastvaṃ sarvānavadyāṅga mama hṛcchayavardhana। prāpto'syamaravadvīra jñātumicchāmi te'nagha ॥03-52-19॥
[कः (kaḥ) - who; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; सर्व-अनवद्य-अङ्ग (sarva-anavadya-aṅga) - all flawless-limbed; मम (mama) - my; हृत्-श्रय-वर्धन (hṛt-śraya-vardhana) - heart-desire-increaser; प्राप्तः (prāptaḥ) - arrived; असि (asi) - are; अमरवत्-वीर (amaravat-vīra) - like a god-hero; ज्ञातुम् (jñātum) - to know; इच्छामि (icchāmi) - I wish; ते (te) - your; अनघ (anagha) - sinless;]
(Who are you, O all flawless-limbed one, increaser of my heart's desire? Arrived here, like a god-hero you are. To know you, sinless one, I wish.)
Who are you, O flawless-limbed one, who increases the longing in my heart? You have arrived here like a hero among the gods. I wish to know you, sinless one. (03-52-19)
कथमागमनं चेह कथं चासि न लक्षितः। सुरक्षितं हि मे वेश्म राजा चैवोग्रशासनः ॥०३-५२-२०॥
katham āgamanaṃ ca iha kathaṃ ca asi na lakṣitaḥ। surakṣitaṃ hi me veśma rājā ca eva ugraśāsanaḥ॥03-52-20॥
[कथम् (katham) - how; आगमनम् (āgamanaṃ) - arrival; च (ca) - and; इह (iha) - here; कथं (kathaṃ) - how; च (ca) - and; असि (asi) - you are; न (na) - not; लक्षितः (lakṣitaḥ) - noticed; सुरक्षितं (surakṣitaṃ) - well-protected; हि (hi) - indeed; मे (me) - my; वेश्म (veśma) - house; राजा (rājā) - king; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; उग्रशासनः (ugraśāsanaḥ) - of strict command;]
(How (was) the arrival and here, how and you are not noticed? Well-protected indeed (is) my house and the king is indeed of strict command.)

एवमुक्तस्तु वैदर्भ्या नलस्तां प्रत्युवाच ह। नलं मां विद्धि कल्याणि देवदूतमिहागतम् ॥०३-५२-२१॥
evam-uktas tu vaidarbhyā nalas tāṁ pratyuvāca ha। nalaṁ māṁ viddhi kalyāṇi devadūtam ihāgatam॥03-52-21॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्तः (uktaḥ) - spoken to; तु (tu) - but; वैदर्भ्या (vaidarbhyā) - by the daughter of Vidarbha; नलः (nalaḥ) - Nala; ताम् (tām) - to her; प्रत्युवाच (pratyuvāca) - replied; ह (ha) - indeed; नलम् (nalaṁ) - Nala; माम् (mām) - me; विद्धि (viddhi) - know; कल्याणि (kalyāṇi) - O auspicious lady; देव-दूतम् (deva-dūtam) - divine messenger; इह (iha) - here; आगतम् (āgatam) - arrived;]
(Thus, being spoken to by the Daughter of Vidarbha, Nala replied to her indeed. Nala, know me, O auspicious lady, as a divine messenger arrived here.)

देवास्त्वां प्राप्तुमिच्छन्ति शक्रोऽग्निर्वरुणो यमः। तेषामन्यतमं देवं पतिं वरय शोभने ॥०३-५२-२२॥
devās tvāṃ prāptum icchanti śakro'gnir varuṇo yamaḥ। teṣām anyatamaṃ devaṃ patiṃ varaya śobhane॥03-52-22॥

(Gods you to obtain desire; Śakra, Agni, Varuṇa, Yama; of them any one god husband choose, O beautiful one.)
The gods—Śakra, Agni, Varuṇa, and Yama—desire to obtain you; O beautiful one, choose any one of these gods as your husband. (03-52-22)
तेषामेव प्रभावेन प्रविष्टोऽहमलक्षितः। प्रविशन्तं हि मां कश्चिन्नापश्यन्नाप्यवारयत् ॥०३-५२-२३॥
teṣāmeva prabhāvena praviṣṭo'hamalakṣitaḥ। praviśantaṃ hi māṃ kaścinnāpaśyannāpyavārayat॥03-52-23॥

(By their indeed power, I entered unnoticed. Indeed, anyone did not see me entering nor also restrained (me).)

एतदर्थमहं भद्रे प्रेषितः सुरसत्तमैः। एतच्छ्रुत्वा शुभे बुद्धिं प्रकुरुष्व यथेच्छसि ॥०३-५२-२४॥
etadartham ahaṃ bhadre preṣitaḥ surasattamaiḥ. etac chrutvā śubhe buddhiṃ prakuruṣva yathecchasi ॥03-52-24॥
