मां चेदिच्छसि जीवन्तीं मातः सत्यं ब्रवीमि ते। नरवीरस्य वै तस्य नलस्यानयने यत ॥०३-६७-१॥
māṃ cedicchasi jīvantīṃ mātaḥ satyaṃ bravīmi te. naravīrasya vai tasya nalasyānayane yata ॥03-67-1॥
[मां (mām) - me; चेत् (cet) - if; इच्छसि (icchasi) - you wish; जीवन्तीं (jīvantīm) - living; मातः (mātaḥ) - O mother; सत्यं (satyaṃ) - truth; ब्रवीमि (bravīmi) - I speak; ते (te) - to you; नरवीरस्य (naravīrasya) - of the heroic man; वै (vai) - indeed; तस्य (tasya) - of him; नलस्य (nalasya) - of Nala; अनयने (anayane) - in bringing (him); यत (yata) - which;]
(Me if you wish living, O mother, truth I speak to you. Of the heroic man indeed, of him, of Nala, in bringing which.)
O mother, if you wish me to live, I speak the truth to you: it is in bringing here that heroic man Nala. (03-67-1)
बृहदश्व उवाच॥

Brihadashva said.
दमयन्त्या तथोक्ता तु सा देवी भृशदुःखिता। बाष्पेण पिहिता राजन्नोत्तरं किञ्चिदब्रवीत् ॥०३-६७-२॥
damayantyā tathoktā tu sā devī bhṛśaduḥkhitā। bāṣpeṇa pihitā rājannottaraṃ kiñcidabravīt ॥03-67-2॥
[दमयन्त्या (damayantyā) - by Damayantī; तथा (tathā) - thus; उक्ता (uktā) - addressed; तु (tu) - but; सा (sā) - she; देवी (devī) - the lady; भृशदुःखिता (bhṛśaduḥkhitā) - greatly afflicted with sorrow; बाष्पेण (bāṣpeṇa) - with tears; पिहिता (pihitā) - obstructed; राजन् (rājan) - O king; उत्तरं (uttaraṃ) - reply; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - something; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said;]
(By Damayantī thus addressed but she the lady greatly afflicted with sorrow, with tears obstructed, O king, a reply something spoke.)
O king, thus addressed by Damayantī, the sorrowful lady, her voice choked with tears, gave some reply. (03-67-2)
तदवस्थां तु तां दृष्ट्वा सर्वमन्तःपुरं तदा। हाहाभूतमतीवासीद्भृशं च प्ररुरोद ह ॥०३-६७-३॥
tadavasthāṁ tu tāṁ dṛṣṭvā sarvam antaḥpuraṁ tadā। hāhābhūtam atīvāsīd bhṛśaṁ ca praruroda ha ॥03-67-3॥
[तदवस्थां (tad-avasthām) - that condition; तु (tu) - but; तां (tām) - her; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; सर्वमन्तःपुरं (sarvam antaḥ-puram) - all the inner apartments (harem); तदा (tadā) - then; हाहाभूतम् (hāhābhūtam) - being overwhelmed by wailing; अतीव (atīva) - exceedingly; आसीत् (āsīt) - became; भृशम् (bhṛśam) - greatly; च (ca) - and; प्ररुरोद (praruroda) - wept loudly; ह (ha) - indeed;]
(But having seen her in that condition, then all the inner apartments (harem) became overwhelmed by wailing exceedingly, and greatly wept indeed.)
But when they saw her in that state, the entire inner palace was filled with great wailing, and everyone wept intensely. (03-67-3)
ततो भीमं महाराज भार्या वचनमब्रवीत्। दमयन्ती तव सुता भर्तारमनुशोचति ॥०३-६७-४॥
tato bhīmaṃ mahārāja bhāryā vacanam abravīt। damayantī tava sutā bhartāram anuśocati॥03-67-4॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; भीमं (bhīmam) - to Bhīma; महाराज (mahārāja) - O great king; भार्या (bhāryā) - the wife; वचनम् (vacanam) - speech; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; दमयन्ती (damayantī) - Damayantī; तव (tava) - your; सुता (sutā) - daughter; भर्तारम् (bhartāram) - husband; अनुशोचति (anuśocati) - grieves;]
(Then to Bhīma, O great king, the wife said speech. Damayantī, your daughter, for her husband grieves.)
Then Bhīma's wife said to the great king: "Damayantī, your daughter, grieves for her husband." (03-67-4)
अपकृष्य च लज्जां मां स्वयमुक्तवती नृप। प्रयतन्तु तव प्रेष्याः पुण्यश्लोकस्य दर्शने ॥०३-६७-५॥
apakṛṣya ca lajjām māṃ svayamuktavatī nṛpa। prayatantu tava preṣyāḥ puṇyaślokasya darśane ॥03-67-5॥
[अपकृष्य (apakṛṣya) - having removed; च (ca) - and; लज्जाम् (lajjām) - modesty; माम् (mām) - me; स्वयम् (svayam) - herself; उक्तवती (uktavatī) - said; नृप (nṛpa) - O king; प्रयतन्तु (prayatantu) - let strive; तव (tava) - your; प्रेष्याः (preṣyāḥ) - servants; पुण्यश्लोकस्य (puṇyaślokasya) - of the virtuous (celebrated) one; दर्शने (darśane) - for seeing;]
(Having removed my modesty, she herself said, O king: Let your servants strive for the sight of the virtuous one.)
O king, having cast off her modesty, she herself said: "Let your servants endeavor to obtain a sight of the virtuous one." (03-67-5)
तया प्रचोदितो राजा ब्राह्मणान्वशवर्तिनः। प्रास्थापयद्दिशः सर्वा यतध्वं नलदर्शने ॥०३-६७-६॥
tayā pracodito rājā brāhmaṇān vaśavartinaḥ। prāsthāpayad diśaḥ sarvā yatadhvaṃ naladarśane ॥03-67-6॥
[तया (tayā) - by her; प्रचोदितः (pracoditaḥ) - inspired; राजा (rājā) - the king; ब्राह्मणान् (brāhmaṇān) - the brāhmaṇas; वशवर्तिनः (vaśavartinaḥ) - obedient; प्रास्थापयत् (prāsthāpayat) - sent forth; दिशः (diśaḥ) - directions; सर्वाः (sarvāḥ) - all; यतध्वम् (yatadhvam) - strive (you all); नलदर्शने (naladarśane) - for the sight of Nala; ॥०३-६७-६॥ (॥03-67-6॥) -;]
(By her inspired, the king the brāhmaṇas obedient sent forth in all directions, strive (you all) for the sight of Nala.)
Prompted by her, the king sent the obedient brāhmaṇas in all directions, saying, "Strive to find Nala." (03-67-6)
ततो विदर्भाधिपतेर्नियोगाद्ब्राह्मणर्षभाः। दमयन्तीमथो दृष्ट्वा प्रस्थिताः स्मेत्यथाब्रुवन् ॥०३-६७-७॥
tato vidarbhādhipater niyogād brāhmaṇaṛṣabhāḥ। damayantīm atho dṛṣṭvā prasthitāḥ sma ity athābruvan ॥03-67-7॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; विदर्भाधिपतेः (vidarbhādhipateḥ) - of the king of Vidarbha; नियोगात् (niyogāt) - by the command; ब्राह्मणर्षभाः (brāhmaṇaṛṣabhāḥ) - the foremost Brāhmaṇas; दमयन्तीम् (damayantīm) - Damayantī; अथ (atha) - then; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; प्रस्थिताः (prasthitāḥ) - departed; स्म (sma) - indeed; इति (iti) - thus; अथ (atha) - then; अब्रुवन् (abravan) - said;]
(Then by the command of the king of Vidarbha, the foremost Brāhmaṇas, having seen Damayantī, departed indeed, thus then they said.)
Then, by the command of the king of Vidarbha, the foremost Brāhmaṇas, after seeing Damayantī, set out, and then they said thus. (03-67-7)
अथ तानब्रवीद्भैमी सर्वराष्ट्रेष्विदं वचः। ब्रुवध्वं जनसंसत्सु तत्र तत्र पुनः पुनः ॥०३-६७-८॥
atha tān abravīd bhaimī sarvarāṣṭreṣu idaṃ vacaḥ. bruvadhvaṃ jana-saṃsatsu tatra tatra punaḥ punaḥ ॥03-67-8॥
[अथ (atha) - then; तान् (tān) - to them; अब्रवीद् (abravīd) - spoke; भैमी (bhaimī) - the daughter of Bhīma; सर्वराष्ट्रेषु (sarvarāṣṭreṣu) - in all kingdoms; इदं (idaṃ) - this; वचः (vacaḥ) - word; ब्रुवध्वं (bruvadhvaṃ) - say; जनसंसत्सु (jana-saṃsatsu) - in assemblies of people; तत्र तत्र (tatra tatra) - here and there; पुनः पुनः (punaḥ punaḥ) - again and again;]
(Then to them spoke the daughter of Bhīma, in all kingdoms this word: Speak in assemblies of people here and there, again and again.)
Then the daughter of Bhīma spoke to them: 'In all kingdoms, say these words in the gatherings of people, here and there, repeatedly.' (03-67-8)
क्व नु त्वं कितव छित्त्वा वस्त्रार्धं प्रस्थितो मम। उत्सृज्य विपिने सुप्तामनुरक्तां प्रियां प्रिय ॥०३-६७-९॥
kva nu tvaṃ kitava chittvā vastrārdhaṃ prasthito mama। utsṛjya vipine suptām-anuraktāṃ priyāṃ priya ॥03-67-9॥
[क्व (kva) - where; नु (nu) - indeed; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; कितव (kitava) - deceitful one; छित्त्वा (chittvā) - having cut; वस्त्रार्धं (vastrārdham) - half the garment; प्रस्थितः (prasthitaḥ) - departed; मम (mama) - my; उत्सृज्य (utsṛjya) - having abandoned; विपिने (vipine) - in the forest; सुप्ताम् (suptām) - sleeping (feminine accusative); अनुरक्ताम् (anuraktām) - devoted; प्रियां (priyām) - beloved; प्रिय (priya) - dear;]
(Where indeed you, deceitful one, having cut half the garment, departed my (one), having abandoned in the forest the sleeping, devoted, beloved, dear.)
Where indeed are you, deceitful one, having cut off half the garment and departed from me, leaving in the forest your beloved who was sleeping and devoted, dear? (03-67-9)
सा वै यथा समादिष्टा तत्रास्ते त्वत्प्रतीक्षिणी। दह्यमाना भृशं बाला वस्त्रार्धेनाभिसंवृता ॥०३-६७-१०॥
sā vai yathā samādiṣṭā tatrāste tvat-pratīkṣiṇī। dahyamānā bhṛśaṃ bālā vastrārdhenābhisaṃvṛtā ॥03-67-10॥
[सा (sā) - she; वै (vai) - indeed; यथा (yathā) - as; समादिष्टा (samādiṣṭā) - having been commanded (or instructed); तत्र (tatra) - there; आस्ते (āste) - remains; is seated; त्वत्प्रतीक्षिणी (tvat-pratīkṣiṇī) - longing (waiting) for you; दह्यमाना (dahyamānā) - being tormented; burning; भृशम् (bhṛśam) - intensely; very much; बाला (bālā) - young woman; girl; वस्त्रार्धेन (vastrārdhena) - with half a garment; अभिसंवृता (abhisaṃvṛtā) - covered; enveloped;]
(she indeed as having been instructed there remains longing for you being tormented intensely young woman with half a garment covered)
She, indeed, as she was instructed, remains there longing for you, the young girl tormented intensely, covered only with half a garment. (03-67-10)
तस्या रुदन्त्याः सततं तेन शोकेन पार्थिव। प्रसादं कुरु वै वीर प्रतिवाक्यं ददस्व च ॥०३-६७-११॥
tasyā rudantyāḥ satataṃ tena śokena pārthiva। prasādaṃ kuru vai vīra prativākyaṃ dadasva ca ॥03-67-11॥
[तस्या (tasyāḥ) - of her; रुदन्त्याः (rudantyāḥ) - weeping; सततं (satataṃ) - always; तेन (tena) - by that; शोकेन (śokena) - grief; पार्थिव (pārthiva) - O king; प्रसादं (prasādam) - favor; कुरु (kuru) - do; वै (vai) - indeed; वीर (vīra) - O hero; प्रतिवाक्यं (prativākyaṃ) - reply; ददस्व (dadasva) - give; च (ca) - and;]
(Of her weeping always, by that grief, O king, favor do indeed, O hero, a reply give and.)
Because of her constant weeping and that grief, O king, grant your favor and give a reply, O hero. (03-67-11)
एतदन्यच्च वक्तव्यं कृपां कुर्याद्यथा मयि। वायुना धूयमानो हि वनं दहति पावकः ॥०३-६७-१२॥
etad anyac ca vaktavyaṃ kṛpāṃ kuryād yathā mayi। vāyunā dhūyamāno hi vanaṃ dahati pāvakaḥ ॥03-67-12॥
[एतत् (etat) - this; अन्यत् (anyat) - other; च (ca) - and; वक्तव्यम् (vaktavyam) - to be spoken; कृपाम् (kṛpām) - compassion; कुर्यात् (kuryāt) - should do; यथा (yathā) - as; मयि (mayi) - for me; वायुना (vāyunā) - by wind; धूयमानः (dhūyamānaḥ) - being stirred; हि (hi) - indeed; वनम् (vanaṃ) - forest; दहति (dahati) - burns; पावकः (pāvakaḥ) - fire;]
(This and other (things) also should be told, compassion should be shown as for me. Indeed, fire stirred by wind burns the forest.)
This too and other matters should be spoken; show compassion as for me. Indeed, fire stirred by wind burns a forest. (03-67-12)
भर्तव्या रक्षणीया च पत्नी हि पतिना सदा। तन्नष्टमुभयं कस्माद्धर्मज्ञस्य सतस्तव ॥०३-६७-१३॥
bhartavyā rakṣaṇīyā ca patnī hi patinā sadā। tan naṣṭam ubhayaṃ kasmād dharmajñasya satas tava॥03-67-13॥
[भर्तव्या (bhartavyā) - to be supported; रक्षणीया (rakṣaṇīyā) - to be protected; च (ca) - and; पत्नी (patnī) - wife; हि (hi) - indeed; पतिना (patinā) - by the husband; सदा (sadā) - always; तत् (tat) - that; नष्टम् (naṣṭam) - lost; उभयं (ubhayaṃ) - both; कस्मात् (kasmāt) - why; धर्मज्ञस्य (dharmajñasya) - of the knower of dharma; सतः (sataḥ) - of the good; तव (tava) - your;]
(To be supported, to be protected, and wife indeed by the husband always. That lost, both, why, of the knower of dharma, of the good, your.)
A wife must always be supported and protected by her husband; how then could both be lost by you, who are righteous and virtuous? (03-67-13)
ख्यातः प्राज्ञः कुलीनश्च सानुक्रोशश्च त्वं सदा। संवृत्तो निरनुक्रोशः शङ्के मद्भाग्यसङ्क्षयात् ॥०३-६७-१४॥
khyātaḥ prājñaḥ kulīnaś ca sānukrośaś ca tvaṃ sadā। saṃvṛtto niranukrośaḥ śaṅke mad-bhāgya-saṅkṣayāt ॥03-67-14॥
[ख्यातः (khyātaḥ) - famous; प्राज्ञः (prājñaḥ) - wise; कुलीनः (kulīnaḥ) - noble-born; च (ca) - and; सानुक्रोशः (sānukrośaḥ) - compassionate; च (ca) - and; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; सदा (sadā) - always; संवृत्तः (saṃvṛttaḥ) - have become; निरनुक्रोशः (niranukrośaḥ) - pitiless; शङ्के (śaṅke) - I suspect; मद्भाग्यसङ्क्षयात् (mad-bhāgya-saṅkṣayāt) - because of the decline of my fortune;]
(Famous, wise, noble-born and compassionate and you always have become pitiless. I suspect because of the decline of my fortune.)
You, who are always famous, wise, noble-born, and compassionate, have now become pitiless. I suspect this is because my good fortune has waned. (03-67-14)
स कुरुष्व महेष्वास दयां मयि नरर्षभ। आनृशंस्यं परो धर्मस्त्वत्त एव हि मे श्रुतम् ॥०३-६७-१५॥
sa kuruṣva maheṣvāsa dayāṃ mayi nararṣabha। ānṛśaṃsyaṃ paro dharmas tvatta eva hi me śrutam ॥03-67-15॥
[स (sa) - he; or that; or thus; (here: you;) ; कुरुष्व (kuruṣva) - do; or perform; or make; ; महेष्वास (maheṣvāsa) - O great archer; ; दयाम् (dayām) - compassion; ; मयि (mayi) - towards me; ; नरर्षभ (nararṣabha) - O bull among men; ; आनृशंस्यम् (ānṛśaṃsyam) - non-cruelty; or kindness; ; परः (paraḥ) - supreme; ; धर्मः (dharmaḥ) - dharma; or righteousness; ; त्वत्तः (tvattaḥ) - from you; ; एव (eva) - indeed; ; हि (hi) - for; assuredly; ; मे (me) - by me; or to me; ; श्रुतम् (śrutam) - has been heard; ;]
(So do, O great archer, compassion towards me, O bull among men. Non-cruelty is supreme dharma—from you indeed for by me has been heard.)
Therefore, O mighty archer, show compassion to me, O best of men. I have indeed heard from you that non-cruelty is the highest dharma. (03-67-15)
एवं ब्रुवाणान्यदि वः प्रतिब्रूयाद्धि कश्चन। स नरः सर्वथा ज्ञेयः कश्चासौ क्व च वर्तते ॥०३-६७-१६॥
evaṃ bruvāṇān yadi vaḥ pratibrūyād hi kaścana। sa naraḥ sarvathā jñeyaḥ kaśca asau kva ca vartate ॥03-67-16॥
[एवं (evaṃ) (evaṃ) - thus; ब्रुवाणान् (bruvāṇān) (bruvāṇān) - speaking; यदि (yadi) (yadi) - if; वः (vaḥ) (vaḥ) - to you (all); प्रतिब्रूयात् (pratibrūyāt) (pratibrūyāt) - should reply; हि (hi) (hi) - indeed; कश्चन (kaścana) (kaścana) - anyone; स (sa) (sa) - he; नरः (naraḥ) (naraḥ) - man; सर्वथा (sarvathā) (sarvathā) - in every way; ज्ञेयः (jñeyaḥ) (jñeyaḥ) - should be known; कः (kaḥ) (kaḥ) - who; च (ca) (ca) - and; असौ (asau) (asau) - that; क्व (kva) (kva) - where; च (ca) (ca) - and; वर्तते (vartate) (vartate) - resides;]
(Thus speaking if to you indeed anyone should reply, he man in every way should be known — who that (is), where and resides.)
If, while speaking thus, anyone replies to you, that man should be thoroughly found out — who he is and where he lives. (03-67-16)
यच्च वो वचनं श्रुत्वा ब्रूयात्प्रतिवचो नरः। तदादाय वचः क्षिप्रं ममावेद्यं द्विजोत्तमाः ॥०३-६७-१७॥
yacca vo vacanaṁ śrutvā brūyāt prativaco naraḥ. tad ādāya vacaḥ kṣipraṁ mama avedyaṁ dvijottamāḥ ॥03-67-17॥
[यत् (yat) - which; च (ca) - and; वः (vaḥ) - your; वचनम् (vacanam) - speech; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; ब्रूयात् (brūyāt) - might say; प्रतिवचः (prativacaḥ) - reply; नरः (naraḥ) - man; तत् (tat) - that; आदाय (ādāya) - taking; वचः (vacaḥ) - speech; क्षिप्रम् (kṣipram) - quickly; मम (mama) - to me; अवेद्यम् (avedyam) - informing; द्विजोत्तमाः (dvijottamāḥ) - O best of twice-born;]
(Which and your speech having heard, might say a reply man, that taking speech quickly to me informing, O best of twice-born.)
O best of the twice-born, whatever reply any man says after hearing your words, take that reply and quickly inform me. (03-67-17)
यथा च वो न जानीयाच्चरतो भीमशासनात्। पुनरागमनं चैव तथा कार्यमतन्द्रितैः ॥०३-६७-१८॥
yathā ca vo na jānīyāc carato bhīmaśāsanāt। punarāgamanaṃ caiva tathā kāryam atandritaiḥ॥03-67-18॥
[यथा (yathā) - as; in what manner; in such a way; च (ca) - and; वः (vo) - to you; your; न (na) - not; जानीयात् (jānīyāt) - should know; may perceive; चरतः (carataḥ) - while moving; acting; wandering; भीमशासनात् (bhīmaśāsanāt) - from Bhīma's command; by the order of Bhīma; पुनरागमनं (punarāgamanaṃ) - return; coming back; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; surely; तथा (tathā) - in that way; accordingly; कार्यं (kāryam) - should be done; must be done; अतन्द्रितैः (atandritaiḥ) - by the untiring; with diligence;]
(And as your return (punarāgamanaṃ) from the order of Bhīma (bhīmaśāsanāt) while moving (carataḥ) should not be known (na jānīyāt), so too (tathā ca), this should be done (kāryam) diligently (atandritaiḥ).)
Just as your return, while following Bhīma's command, should not be known, so too this must be accomplished with diligence. (03-67-18)
यदि वासौ समृद्धः स्याद्यदि वाप्यधनो भवेत्। यदि वाप्यर्थकामः स्याज्ज्ञेयमस्य चिकीर्षितम् ॥०३-६७-१९॥
yadi vāsau samṛddhaḥ syād yadi vāpy adhanō bhavet। yadi vāpy arthakāmaḥ syāj jñeyam asya cikīrṣitam ॥03-67-19॥
[यदि (yadi) - if; वा (vā) - or; असौ (asau) - he; समृद्धः (samṛddhaḥ) - prosperous; स्यात् (syāt) - might be; यदि (yadi) - if; वा (vā) - or; अपि (api) - even; अधनः (adhanaḥ) - without wealth; भवेत् (bhavet) - might be; यदि (yadi) - if; वा (vā) - or; अपि (api) - even; अर्थकामः (arthakāmaḥ) - desiring wealth; स्यात् (syāt) - might be; ज्ञेयम् (jñeyam) - it should be known; अस्य (asya) - his; चिकीर्षितम् (cikīrṣitam) - wish/intended action;]
(If or he prosperous might be, if or even without wealth might be. If or even wealth-desiring might be; it should be known his intended action.)
Whether he is prosperous or impoverished, or even desires wealth—it should be known what he wishes to do. (03-67-19)
एवमुक्तास्त्वगच्छंस्ते ब्राह्मणाः सर्वतोदिशम्। नलं मृगयितुं राजंस्तथा व्यसनिनं तदा ॥०३-६७-२०॥
evamuktās tv agacchaṃs te brāhmaṇāḥ sarvatodiśam। nalaṃ mṛgayituṃ rājaṃs tathā vyasaninaṃ tadā ॥03-67-20॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्ता: (uktāḥ) - having been addressed; त्व (tv) - indeed; अगच्छन् (agacchan) - departed; ते (te) - they; ब्राह्मणाः (brāhmaṇāḥ) - Brāhmaṇas; सर्वतः (sarvataḥ) - from all sides; दिशम् (diśam) - direction; नलम् (nalaṃ) - Nala; मृगयितुम् (mṛgayitum) - to search; राजम् (rājam) - king; तथा (tathā) - also; व्यसनिनम् (vyasaninam) - afflicted; तदा (tadā) - then; () -;]
(Thus, having been addressed indeed, they Brāhmaṇas departed from all sides, to search for Nala, the king, also afflicted, then.)
Thus addressed, the Brāhmaṇas then departed in all directions to search for the king Nala, who was afflicted. (03-67-20)
ते पुराणि सराष्ट्राणि ग्रामान्घोषांस्तथाश्रमान्। अन्वेषन्तो नलं राजन्नाधिजग्मुर्द्विजातयः ॥०३-६७-२१॥
te purāṇi sarāṣṭrāṇi grāmāṅ ghoṣāṃs tathāśramān। anveṣanto nalaṃ rājann ādhijagmur dvijātayaḥ ॥03-67-21॥
[ते (te) - they; पुराणि (purāṇi) - ancient; सराष्ट्राणि (sarāṣṭrāṇi) - with districts; ग्रामान् (grāmān) - villages; घोषान् (ghoṣān) - hamlets; तथा (tathā) - and also; आश्रमान् (āśramān) - hermitages; अन्वेषन्तः (anveṣantaḥ) - searching; नलम् (nalam) - Nala; राजन् (rājan) - O King; आधिजग्मुः (ādhijagmuḥ) - proceeded towards; द्विजातयः (dvijātayaḥ) - the twice-born;]
(they ancient with districts villages hamlets and also hermitages searching Nala O King proceeded towards the twice-born.)
O King, the twice-born, searching for Nala, went through ancient districts, villages, hamlets, and also hermitages. (03-67-21)
तच्च वाक्यं तथा सर्वे तत्र तत्र विशां पते। श्रावयां चक्रिरे विप्रा दमयन्त्या यथेरितम् ॥०३-६७-२२॥
tac ca vākyaṃ tathā sarve tatra tatra viśāṃ pate। śrāvayāṃ cakrire viprā damayantyā yatheritām ॥03-67-22॥
[तत् (tat) - that; च (ca) - and; वाक्यम् (vākyaṃ) - speech; तथा (tathā) - so; सर्वे (sarve) - all; तत्र तत्र (tatra tatra) - here and there; विशां पते (viśāṃ pate) - O lord of people; श्रावयाम् (śrāvayām) - cause to be heard; चक्रिरे (cakrire) - they did; विप्राः (viprāḥ) - brahmans; दमयन्त्या (damayantyā) - by Damayantī; यथा (yathā) - as; इरितम् (iritam) - spoken;]
(That and speech so all here and there O lord of people; cause to be heard did the brahmans by Damayantī as spoken.)
O lord of people, all the brahmans everywhere caused that message, as spoken by Damayantī, to be proclaimed. (03-67-22)
