न मामर्हसि कल्याण पापेन परिशङ्कितुम्। मया हि देवानुत्सृज्य वृतस्त्वं निषधाधिप ॥०३-७५-१॥
na māmarhasi kalyāṇa pāpena pariśaṅkitum। mayā hi devānutsṛjya vṛtastvaṃ niṣadhādhipa ॥03-75-1॥
[न (na) - not; माम् (mām) - me; अर्हसि (arhasi) - you ought; कल्याण (kalyāṇa) - O auspicious one; पापेन (pāpena) - by sin; परिशङ्कितुम् (pariśaṅkitum) - to suspect; मया (mayā) - by me; हि (hi) - indeed; देवान् (devān) - the gods; उत्सृज्य (utsṛjya) - having abandoned; वृतः (vṛtaḥ) - chosen; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; निषधाधिप (niṣadhādhipa) - O lord of Niṣadha;]
(Not me you ought, O auspicious one, by sin to suspect. By me indeed, having abandoned the gods, chosen (was) you, O lord of Niṣadha.)
You should not, O auspicious one, suspect me of sin. I have indeed chosen you, O lord of Niṣadha, abandoning even the gods. (03-75-1)
तवाभिगमनार्थं तु सर्वतो ब्राह्मणा गताः। वाक्यानि मम गाथाभिर्गायमाना दिशो दश ॥०३-७५-२॥
tavābhigamanārthaṁ tu sarvato brāhmaṇā gatāḥ। vākyāni mama gāthābhir gāyamānā diśo daśa ॥03-75-2॥
[तवाभिगमनार्थं (tavābhigamanārtham) - for the purpose of your approach; तु (tu) - but; सर्वतः (sarvataḥ) - from all sides; ब्राह्मणा (brāhmaṇāḥ) - the brāhmaṇas; गताः (gatāḥ) - have gone; वाक्यानि (vākyāni) - sentences; मम (mama) - of me; गाथाभिः (gāthābhiḥ) - by songs; गायमाना (gāyamānā) - singing; दिशः (diśaḥ) - directions; दश (daśa) - ten;]
(For the purpose of your approach, but, from all sides the brāhmaṇas have gone; sentences of me, by songs singing, ten directions.)
But for the purpose of your approach, brāhmaṇas have gone from all sides, singing my verses in songs, into the ten directions. (03-75-2)
ततस्त्वां ब्राह्मणो विद्वान्पर्णादो नाम पार्थिव। अभ्यगच्छत्कोसलायामृतुपर्णनिवेशने ॥०३-७५-३॥
tatastvāṁ brāhmaṇo vidvān parṇādo nāma pārthiva। abhyagacchat kosalāyām ṛtuparṇa-niveśane ॥03-75-3॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; त्वाम् (tvām) - you (accusative); ब्राह्मणः (brāhmaṇaḥ) - a brāhmaṇa; विद्वान् (vidvān) - learned; पर्णादः (parṇādaḥ) - Parṇāda; नाम (nāma) - named; पार्थिव (pārthiva) - O king; अभ्यगच्छत् (abhyagacchat) - approached; कोसलायाम् (kosalāyām) - in Kosalā; ऋतुपर्णनिवेशने (ṛtupārṇa-niveśane) - in the abode of Ṛtupārṇa;]
(Then you, O king, a learned brāhmaṇa named Parṇāda approached in Kosalā, in the abode of Ṛtupārṇa.)
Then, O king, a learned brāhmaṇa named Parṇāda approached you in Kosalā, at the abode of Ṛtupārṇa. (03-75-3)
तेन वाक्ये हृते सम्यक्प्रतिवाक्ये तथाहृते। उपायोऽयं मया दृष्टो नैषधानयने तव ॥०३-७५-४॥
tena vākye hṛte samyakprativākye tathāhṛte। upāyo'yaṃ mayā dṛṣṭo naiṣadhānayane tava॥03-75-4॥
[तेन (tena) - by that; by him; वाक्ये (vākye) - in the sentence; in the statement; हृते (hṛte) - taken away; removed; सम्यक् (samyak) - completely; properly; प्रतिवाक्ये (prativākye) - in the reply; in the counter-statement; तथा (tathā) - likewise; in the same way; हृते (hṛte) - taken away; removed; उपायः (upāyaḥ) - means; method; अयम् (ayam) - this; मया (mayā) - by me; दृष्टः (dṛṣṭaḥ) - seen; found; नैषधानयने (naiṣadhānayane) - in the proceeding to Naiṣadha; in the Naiṣadha-mission; तव (tava) - your; for you;]
(By that sentence being removed, and by the reply likewise being removed completely, this method was seen by me in your Naiṣadha-mission.)
Since both the statement and the counter-statement were properly eliminated in this way, I have found this means for your Naiṣadha-mission. (03-75-4)
त्वामृते न हि लोकेऽन्य एकाह्ना पृथिवीपते। समर्थो योजनशतं गन्तुमश्वैर्नराधिप ॥०३-७५-५॥
tvāmṛte na hi loke'nya ekāhnā pṛthivīpate। samartho yojanaśataṃ gantumaśvairnarādhipa ॥03-75-5॥
[त्वाम् (tvām) - you; (accusative singular of 'tvam') ; ऋते (ṛte) - except; without; न (na) - not; हि (hi) - indeed; लोके (loke) - in the world; अन्यः (anyaḥ) - other; another; एकाह्ना (ekāhnā) - in one day; पृथिवीपते (pṛthivīpate) - O lord of the earth; (vocative of 'pṛthivīpati'); समर्थः (samarthaḥ) - capable; able; योजनशतम् (yojanaśatam) - a hundred yojanas; गन्तुम् (gantum) - to go; to travel; अश्वैः (aśvaiḥ) - with horses; नराधिप (narādhipa) - O lord of men; (vocative of 'narādhipa');]
(Except you, indeed, in the world, no other is capable, O lord of the earth, in one day, to go a hundred yojanas with horses, O lord of men.)
O lord of the earth, O lord of men, except for you, truly, no one else in the world is able to travel a hundred yojanas in a single day with horses. (03-75-5)
तथा चेमौ महीपाल भजेऽहं चरणौ तव। यथा नासत्कृतं किञ्चिन्मनसापि चराम्यहम् ॥०३-७५-६॥
tathā cemau mahīpāla bhaje'haṃ caraṇau tava। yathā nāsatkṛtaṃ kiñcin manasāpi carāmy aham॥03-75-6॥
[तथा (tathā) - in this way; thus; च (ca) - and; इमौ (imau) - these two; महीपाल (mahīpāla) - O king; भजेऽहं (bhaje'haṃ) - I revere; I worship; चरणौ (caraṇau) - the two feet; तव (tava) - your; यथा (yathā) - so that; in such a way that; न (na) - not; असत्कृतं (asatkṛtam) - improperly done; disrespectfully done; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - anything; something; मनसा अपि (manasā api) - even in mind; चरामि अहम् (carāmi aham) - I do; I act;]
(Thus and these two, O king, I worship your feet, so that not anything improperly done, even in mind, I do.)
O king, thus I worship these two feet of yours, so that I may not do anything improperly, even in my mind. (03-75-6)
अयं चरति लोकेऽस्मिन्भूतसाक्षी सदागतिः। एष मुञ्चतु मे प्राणान्यदि पापं चराम्यहम् ॥०३-७५-७॥
ayaṃ carati loke'smin bhūta-sākṣī sadā-gatiḥ। eṣa muñcatu me prāṇān yadi pāpaṃ carāmi aham॥03-75-7॥
[अयं (ayaṃ) - this; चरति (carati) - moves; लोकेऽस्मिन् (loke'smin) - in this world; भूतसाक्षी (bhūta-sākṣī) - witness of beings; सदागतिः (sadā-gatiḥ) - ever-moving; एष (eṣa) - this (one); मुञ्चतु (muñcatu) - may release; मे (me) - my; प्राणान् (prāṇān) - life-breaths; यदि (yadi) - if; पापम् (pāpam) - sin; चरामि (carāmi) - I commit; अहम् (aham) - I;]
(This moves in this world, witness of beings, ever-moving. This (one) may release my life-breaths if I commit sin, I.)
This being moves in this world as the witness of all creatures, ever moving. Let him take my life if I commit sin. (03-75-7)
तथा चरति तिग्मांशुः परेण भुवनं सदा। स विमुञ्चतु मे प्राणान्यदि पापं चराम्यहम् ॥०३-७५-८॥
tathā carati tigmāṃśuḥ pareṇa bhuvanaṃ sadā। sa vimuñcatu me prāṇān yadi pāpaṃ carāmy aham ॥03-75-8॥
[तथा (tathā) (tathā) - thus; चरति (carati) (carati) - moves; तिग्मांशुः (tigmāṃśuḥ) (tigmāṃśuḥ) - the sun; परेण (pareṇa) (pareṇa) - by the sky; भुवनं (bhuvanaṃ) (bhuvanaṃ) - the world; सदा (sadā) (sadā) - always; स (sa) (sa) - he; विमुञ्चतु (vimuñcatu) (vimuñcatu) - may release; मे (me) (me) - my; प्राणान् (prāṇān) (prāṇān) - life-breaths; यदि (yadi) (yadi) - if; पापं (pāpaṃ) (pāpaṃ) - evil; चरामि (carāmi) (carāmi) - I do; अहम् (aham) (aham) - I;]
(Thus moves the sun by the sky the world always. He may release my life-breaths if evil I do I.)
Just as the sun always moves through the sky over the world, let him take my life if I commit any evil. (03-75-8)
चन्द्रमाः सर्वभूतानामन्तश्चरति साक्षिवत्। स विमुञ्चतु मे प्राणान्यदि पापं चराम्यहम् ॥०३-७५-९॥
candramāḥ sarvabhūtānām antaś carati sākṣivat। sa vimuñcatu me prāṇān yadi pāpaṃ carāmy aham॥03-75-9॥
[चन्द्रमाः (candramāḥ) - the moon; सर्वभूतानाम् (sarvabhūtānām) - of all beings; अन्तः (antaḥ) - within; चरति (carati) - moves; साक्षिवत् (sākṣivat) - like a witness; स (sa) - he; विमुञ्चतु (vimuñcatu) - may release; मे (me) - my; प्राणान् (prāṇān) - vital breaths (life); यदि (yadi) - if; पापं (pāpaṃ) - evil; चरामि (carāmi) - I do; अहम् (aham) - I;]
(The moon of all beings within moves like a witness; he may release my vital breaths if evil I do I.)
The moon moves within all beings like a witness; may he release my life if I commit evil. (03-75-9)
एते देवास्त्रयः कृत्स्नं त्रैलोक्यं धारयन्ति वै। विब्रुवन्तु यथासत्यमेते वाद्य त्यजन्तु माम् ॥०३-७५-१०॥
ete devās trayaḥ kṛtsnaṁ trailokyaṁ dhārayanti vai। vibruvantu yathāsatyam ete vādi tyajantu mām ॥03-75-10॥
[एते (ete) - these; देवाः (devāḥ) - gods; त्रयः (trayaḥ) - three; कृत्स्नम् (kṛtsnam) - entire; त्रैलोक्यम् (trailokyam) - the three worlds; धारयन्ति (dhārayanti) - support; वै (vai) - indeed; विब्रुवन्तु (vibruvantu) - let them declare; यथासत्यम् (yathāsatyam) - as is true; एते (ete) - these; वादि (vādi) - if they are speakers (of truth); त्यजन्तु (tyajantu) - let them abandon; माम् (mām) - me;]
(These gods three entire three worlds support indeed. Let them declare as is true, these, if speakers (of truth), let them abandon me.)
These three gods indeed support the entire three worlds. Let them, if they are truthful, declare this as it is, or else let them abandon me. (03-75-10)
एवमुक्ते ततो वायुरन्तरिक्षादभाषत। नैषा कृतवती पापं नल सत्यं ब्रवीमि ते ॥०३-७५-११॥
evam-ukte tato vāyur-antarikṣād abhāṣata। naiṣā kṛtavatī pāpaṃ nala satyaṃ bravīmi te ॥03-75-11॥
[एवम्-उक्ते (evam-ukte) - when thus had been spoken; ततः (tataḥ) - then; वायुः (vāyuḥ) - Vāyu (the Wind deity); अन्तरिक्षात् (antarikṣāt) - from the sky; अभाषत (abhāṣata) - spoke; न (na) - not; एषा (eṣā) - this (woman); कृतवती (kṛtavatī) - has committed; पापम् (pāpam) - sin; नल (nala) - O Nala; सत्यं (satyaṃ) - truth; ब्रवीमि (bravīmi) - I speak; ते (te) - to you;]
(When it had thus been spoken, then Vāyu spoke from the sky: Not this (woman) has committed sin, O Nala; truth I speak to you.)
After these words were spoken, then Vāyu spoke from the sky: "This woman has not committed any sin, O Nala; I tell you the truth." (03-75-11)
राजञ्शीलनिधिः स्फीतो दमयन्त्या सुरक्षितः। साक्षिणो रक्षिणश्चास्या वयं त्रीन्परिवत्सरान् ॥०३-७५-१२॥
rājan śīlanidhiḥ sphīto damayantyā surakṣitaḥ। sākṣiṇo rakṣiṇaś cāsyā vayaṃ trīn parivatsarān॥03-75-12॥
[राजन् (rājan) - O king; शीलनिधिः (śīlanidhiḥ) - treasure of good conduct; स्फीतः (sphītaḥ) - abundant; दमयन्त्या (damayantyā) - by Damayanti; सुरक्षितः (surakṣitaḥ) - protected; साक्षिणः (sākṣiṇaḥ) - witnesses; रक्षिणः (rakṣiṇaḥ) - protectors; च (ca) - and; अस्याः (asyāḥ) - of her; वयम् (vayam) - we; त्रीन् (trīn) - three; परिवत्सरान् (parivatsarān) - years;]
(O king, the treasure of good conduct became abundant, protected by Damayanti. We are her witnesses and protectors for three years.)
O king, the treasure of virtue flourished, protected by Damayanti. We have been her witnesses and guardians for three years. (03-75-12)
उपायो विहितश्चायं त्वदर्थमतुलोऽनया। न ह्येकाह्ना शतं गन्ता त्वदृतेऽन्यः पुमानिह ॥०३-७५-१३॥
upāyo vihitaścāyaṃ tvadarthamatulo'nayā। na hyekāhnā śataṃ gantā tvadṛte'nyaḥ pumāniha॥03-75-13॥
[उपायः (उपायः) (upāyaḥ) - means; विहितः (विहितः) (vihitaḥ) - undertaken; च (च) (ca) - and; अयम् (अयम्) (ayam) - this; त्वदर्थम् (त्वदर्थम्) (tvadartham) - for your sake; अतुलः (अतुलः) (atulaḥ) - unsurpassed; अनया (अनया) (anayā) - by her; न (न) (na) - not; हि (हि) (hi) - indeed; एकाह्ना (एकाह्ना) (ekāhnā) - in one day; शतं (शतम्) (śatam) - hundred (yojanas); गन्ता (गन्ता) (gantā) - one who goes; त्वदृते (त्वदृते) (tvadṛte) - except you; अन्यः (अन्यः) (anyaḥ) - another; पुमान् (पुमान्) (pumān) - man; इह (इह) (iha) - here;]
(Means undertaken and this for your sake unsurpassed by her; not indeed in one day a hundred (yojanas) will go except you another man here.)
This means has been undertaken for your sake and is unsurpassed by her; for truly, no other man here except you can go a hundred yojanas in a single day. (03-75-13)
उपपन्ना त्वया भैमी त्वं च भैम्या महीपते। नात्र शङ्का त्वया कार्या सङ्गच्छ सह भार्यया ॥०३-७५-१४॥
upapannā tvayā bhaimī tvaṁ ca bhaimyā mahīpate. nātra śaṅkā tvayā kāryā saṅgaccha saha bhāryayā ॥03-75-14॥
[उपपन्ना (upapannā) - acquired; attained; obtained; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; भैमी (bhaimī) - the daughter of Bhīma (Damayantī); त्वं (tvaṁ) - you; च (ca) - and; भैम्या (bhaimyā) - with Bhaimī; with the daughter of Bhīma; महीपते (mahīpate) - O king; lord of the earth; न (na) - not; अत्र (atra) - here; शङ्का (śaṅkā) - doubt; hesitation; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; कार्या (kāryā) - should be made; should be done; सङ्गच्छ (saṅgaccha) - go; unite; approach; सह (saha) - with; भार्यया (bhāryayā) - with (your) wife;]
(Acquired by you is Bhaimī; you also with Bhaimī, O king. Not here doubt by you should be made; go with the wife.)
O king, Bhaimī has been obtained by you, and you are (reunited) with Bhaimī. You should have no doubt here; unite with your wife. (03-75-14)
तथा ब्रुवति वायौ तु पुष्पवृष्टिः पपात ह। देवदुन्दुभयो नेदुर्ववौ च पवनः शिवः ॥०३-७५-१५॥
tathā bruvati vāyau tu puṣpavṛṣṭiḥ papāta ha। devadundubhayo nedurvavau ca pavanaḥ śivaḥ ॥03-75-15॥
[तथा (tathā) - thus; then; ब्रुवति (bruvati) - (he) was speaking; वायौ (vāyau) - to Vāyu (the Wind-god); तु (tu) - but; पुष्पवृष्टिः (puṣpavṛṣṭiḥ) - shower of flowers; पपात (papāta) - fell; ह (ha) - indeed; देवदुन्दुभयो (devadundubhayaḥ) - divine drums; नेदुः (neduḥ) - resounded; ववौ (vavau) - blew; च (ca) - and; पवनः (pavanaḥ) - the wind; शिवः (śivaḥ) - auspicious;]
(Thus, as he was speaking to Vāyu, but a shower of flowers indeed fell. Divine drums resounded, and the wind, auspicious, blew.)

तदद्भुततमं दृष्ट्वा नलो राजाथ भारत। दमयन्त्यां विशङ्कां तां व्यपाकर्षदरिंदमः ॥०३-७५-१६॥
tad adbhutatamaṁ dṛṣṭvā nalo rājātha bhārata। damayantyāṁ viśaṅkāṁ tāṁ vyapākarṣadarindamaḥ ॥03-75-16॥
[तत् (tat) - that; अद्भुततमम् (adbhutatamam) - most wonderful; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; नलः (nalaḥ) - Nala; राजा (rājā) - the king; अथ (atha) - then; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata; दमयन्त्यां (damayantyām) - in Damayantī; विशङ्काम् (viśaṅkām) - doubt; ताम् (tām) - that; व्यपाकर्षत् (vyapākarṣat) - removed; अरिंदमः (ariṁdamaḥ) - the subduer of foes;]
(That most wonderful (thing) having seen, Nala the king then, O Bhārata, (in) Damayantī, doubt that removed, the subduer of foes.)
O Bhārata, then Nala the king, subduer of foes, having seen that most wonderful thing, removed that doubt in Damayantī. (03-75-16)
ततस्तद्वस्त्रमरजः प्रावृणोद्वसुधाधिपः। संस्मृत्य नागराजानं ततो लेभे वपुः स्वकम् ॥०३-७५-१७॥
tatas tad-vastram-arajaḥ prāvṛṇod vasudhādhipaḥ। saṁsmṛtya nāgarājānaṁ tato lebhe vapuḥ svakam॥03-75-17॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; तत् (tat) - that; वस्त्रम् (vastram) - cloth; अरजः (arajaḥ) - prince; प्रावृणोत् (prāvṛṇot) - covered; वसुधा-अधिपः (vasudhā-adhipaḥ) - the lord of the earth; संस्मृत्य (saṁsmṛtya) - having remembered; नागराजनम् (nāgarājanam) - the king of the nāgas; ततः (tataḥ) - then; लेभे (lebhe) - obtained; वपुः (vapuḥ) - body; स्वकम् (svakam) - his own;]
(Then that cloth, the prince, covered, the lord of the earth. Having remembered the king of the nāgas, then obtained his own body.)
Then the prince covered the lord of the earth with that cloth. Remembering the king of the nāgas, he then regained his own body. (03-75-17)
स्वरूपिणं तु भर्तारं दृष्ट्वा भीमसुता तदा। प्राक्रोशदुच्चैरालिङ्ग्य पुण्यश्लोकमनिन्दिता ॥०३-७५-१८॥
svarūpiṇaṁ tu bhartāraṁ dṛṣṭvā bhīmasutā tadā। prākrośad uccair āliṅgya puṇyaślokam aninditā॥03-75-18॥
[स्वरूपिणं (svarūpiṇam) - in original form; तु (tu) - but; भर्तारं (bhartāram) - husband; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; भीमसुता (bhīmasutā) - the daughter of Bhīma; तदा (tadā) - then; प्राक्रोशत् (prākrośat) - cried out; उच्चैः (uccaiḥ) - loudly; आलिङ्ग्य (āliṅgya) - embracing; पुण्यश्लोकम् (puṇyaślokam) - the illustrious one; अनिन्दिता (aninditā) - the blameless one;]
(But having seen the husband in original form, the daughter of Bhīma then cried out loudly, embracing the illustrious one, the blameless one.)

भैमीमपि नलो राजा भ्राजमानो यथा पुरा। सस्वजे स्वसुतौ चापि यथावत्प्रत्यनन्दत ॥०३-७५-१९॥
bhaimīm api nalo rājā bhrājamāno yathā purā। sasvaje svasutau cāpi yathāvatpratyanandat ॥03-75-19॥

ततः स्वोरसि विन्यस्य वक्त्रं तस्य शुभानना। परीता तेन दुःखेन निशश्वासायतेक्षणा ॥०३-७५-२०॥
tataḥ svorasi vinyasya vaktraṃ tasya śubhānanā। parītā tena duḥkhena niśaśvāsāyatekṣaṇā ॥03-75-20॥

तथैव मलदिग्धाङ्गी परिष्वज्य शुचिस्मिता। सुचिरं पुरुषव्याघ्रं तस्थौ साश्रुपरिप्लुता ॥०३-७५-२१॥
tathaiva maladigdhāṅgī pariṣvajya śucismitā। suciraṃ puruṣavyāghraṃ tasthau sāśrupariplutā ॥03-75-21॥

(In the same way, with body smeared with dirt, embracing (him), with a pure smile, for a long time, at the tiger among men, she stood, filled with tears.)
In the same way, with her body smeared with dirt, she embraced him, her face bearing a pure smile, and stood for a long time before the tiger among men, overwhelmed with tears. (03-75-21)
ततः सर्वं यथावृत्तं दमयन्त्या नलस्य च। भीमायाकथयत्प्रीत्या वैदर्भ्या जननी नृप ॥०३-७५-२२॥
tataḥ sarvaṃ yathāvṛttaṃ damayantyā nalasya ca। bhīmāyākathayatprītyā vaidarbhyaa jananī nṛpa ॥03-75-22॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; from that point; सर्वं (sarvaṃ) - everything; यथावृत्तं (yathāvṛttam) - as it had happened; दमयन्त्या (damayantyā) - by Damayantī; नलस्य (nalasya) - of Nala; च (ca) - and; भीमाय (bhīmāya) - to Bhīma; आकथयत् (ākathayat) - related; प्रीत्या (prītyā) - affectionately; वैदर्भ्या (vaidarbhya) - of the princess of Vidarbha (Damayantī); जननी (jananī) - the mother; नृप (nṛpa) - O king;]
(Then everything, as it had happened, by Damayantī and Nala, to Bhīma told affectionately, the mother of the Vidarbha princess, O king.)
Then, O king, the mother of the princess of Vidarbha affectionately related to Bhīma everything as it had happened concerning Damayantī and Nala. (03-75-22)
ततोऽब्रवीन्महाराजः कृतशौचमहं नलम्। दमयन्त्या सहोपेतं काल्यं द्रष्टा सुखोषितम् ॥०३-७५-२३॥
tato'bravīn mahārājaḥ kṛtaśaucam ahaṃ nalam| damayantyā sahopetam kālyaṃ draṣṭā sukhoṣitam ॥03-75-23॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - spoke; महाराजः (mahārājaḥ) - the great king; कृतशौचम् (kṛtaśaucam) - having performed purification; अहम् (aham) - I; नलम् (nalam) - Nala; दमयन्त्या (damayantyā) - with Damayantī; सह (saha) - together; उपेतम् (upetam) - approached; काल्यम् (kālyam) - in the morning; द्रष्टा (draṣṭā) - I will see; सुखोषितम् (sukhoṣitam) - having slept comfortably;]
(Then the great king, having performed purification, I (will) see Nala, approached together with Damayantī in the morning, having slept comfortably.)
Then the great king said, "Having purified myself, I will see Nala, who, together with Damayantī, has approached in the morning, having slept comfortably." (03-75-23)
ततस्तौ सहितौ रात्रिं कथयन्तौ पुरातनम्। वने विचरितं सर्वमूषतुर्मुदितौ नृप ॥०३-७५-२४॥
tatastau sahitau rātriṃ kathayantau purātanam। vane vicaritaṃ sarvamūṣaturmuditau nṛpa॥03-75-24॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; तौ (tau) - those two; सहितौ (sahitau) - together; रात्रिं (rātriṃ) - night; कथयन्तौ (kathayantau) - speaking; पुरातनम् (purātanam) - ancient (stories); वने (vane) - in the forest; विचरितं (vicaritam) - (what was) experienced; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; ऊषतु (ūṣatu) - they passed (spent the night); मुदितौ (muditau) - joyful; नृप (nṛpa) - O king;]
(Then those two, together, the night, speaking ancient (stories), in the forest, all (they had) experienced, joyfully, O king, they passed (the night).)
Then, O king, those two joyfully spent the night together in the forest, recounting all the ancient stories they had experienced. (03-75-24)
स चतुर्थे ततो वर्षे सङ्गम्य सह भार्यया। सर्वकामैः सुसिद्धार्थो लब्धवान्परमां मुदम् ॥०३-७५-२५॥
sa caturthe tato varṣe saṅgamya saha bhāryayā। sarvakāmaiḥ susiddhārtho labdhavān paramāṃ mudam ॥03-75-25॥
[स (sa) - he; चतुर्थे (caturthe) - in the fourth; ततः (tataḥ) - after that; वर्षे (varṣe) - in the year; सङ्गम्य (saṅgamya) - having united; सह (saha) - with; भार्यया (bhāryayā) - wife; सर्वकामैः (sarvakāmaiḥ) - by all desires; सुसिद्धार्थः (susiddhārthaḥ) - one whose desires are well-fulfilled; लब्धवान् (labdhavān) - obtained; परमां (paramāṃ) - supreme; मुदम् (mudam) - joy;]
(He in the fourth after that year, having united with wife, by all desires, one whose desires are well-fulfilled, obtained supreme joy.)
Then, in the fourth year, he, having united with his wife, being well-fulfilled in all desires, obtained supreme joy. (03-75-25)
दमयन्त्यपि भर्तारमवाप्याप्यायिता भृशम्। अर्धसञ्जातसस्येव तोयं प्राप्य वसुन्धरा ॥०३-७५-२६॥
damayanty api bhartāram avāpya āpyāyitā bhṛśam। ardha-saṃjāta-sasyā eva toyaṃ prāpya vasundharā॥03-75-26॥
[दमयन्त्यपि (damayanty api) - Damayantī also; भर्तारम् (bhartāram) - husband; अवाप्य (avāpya) - having obtained; आप्यायिता (āpyāyitā) - was nourished; भृशम् (bhṛśam) - greatly; अर्धसञ्जातसस्ये (ardha-saṃjāta-sasye) - in which half-grown crops; इव (iva) - like; तोयम् (toyam) - water; प्राप्य (prāpya) - having obtained; वसुन्धरा (vasundharā) - the earth;]
(Damayantī also, having obtained her husband, was greatly nourished; like the earth with half-grown crops, having obtained water.)
Damayantī too, having regained her husband, was greatly nourished, just as the earth with half-grown crops is, upon receiving water. (03-75-26)
सैवं समेत्य व्यपनीततन्द्री; शान्तज्वरा हर्षविवृद्धसत्त्वा। रराज भैमी समवाप्तकामा; शीतांशुना रात्रिरिवोदितेन ॥०३-७५-२७॥
saivaṃ sametya vyapanīta-tandrī; śānta-jvarā harṣa-vivṛddha-sattvā. rarāja bhaimī samavāpta-kāmā; śītāṃśunā rātrir ivoditena ॥03-75-27॥
[सा (sā) - she; एवं (evaṃ) - thus; समेत्य (sametya) - having approached; व्यपनीततन्द्री (vyapanīta-tandrī) - with fatigue removed; शान्तज्वरा (śānta-jvarā) - with fever calmed; हर्षविवृद्धसत्त्वा (harṣa-vivṛddha-sattvā) - with vitality increased by joy; रराज (rarāja) - shone; भैमी (bhaimī) - the daughter of Bhīma; समवाप्तकामा (samavāpta-kāmā) - with desires fulfilled; शीतांशुना (śītāṃśunā) - by the cool-rayed moon; रात्रिः (rātriḥ) - night; इव (iva) - like; उदितेन (uditena) - risen;]
(She thus, having approached, with fatigue removed, with fever calmed, with vitality increased by joy, shone, the daughter of Bhīma, with desires fulfilled, like night by the cool-rayed moon when risen.)
Thus, having drawn near, with her fatigue gone, fever calmed, and exhilarated by joy, the daughter of Bhīma shone, her desires fulfilled, just like the night shines when the moon with cool rays rises. (03-75-27)
