भृगोर्महर्षेः पुत्रोऽभूच्च्यवनो नाम भार्गवः। समीपे सरसः सोऽस्य तपस्तेपे महाद्युतिः ॥०३-१२२-१॥
bhṛgormaharṣeḥ putro'bhūccyavano nāma bhārgavaḥ। samīpe sarasaḥ so'sya tapastepe mahādyutiḥ॥03-122-1॥
[भृगोः (bhṛgoḥ) - of Bhṛgu; महर्षेः (maharṣeḥ) - of the great seer; पुत्रः (putraḥ) - son; अभूत् (abhūt) - became; च्यवनः (cyavanaḥ) - Cyavana; नाम (nāma) - by name; भार्गवः (bhārgavaḥ) - descendant of Bhṛgu; समीपे (samīpe) - in the vicinity; सरसः (sarasaḥ) - of the lake; सः (saḥ) - he; अस्य (asya) - there; तपः (tapaḥ) - austerity; तेपे (tepe) - practiced; महाद्युतिः (mahādyutiḥ) - the greatly radiant one;]
(Of Bhṛgu, of the great seer, his son became Cyavana by name, descendant of Bhṛgu. In the vicinity of the lake, he, there, asceticism practiced, the greatly radiant one.)
Cyavana, the son of the great sage Bhṛgu, known as a descendant of Bhṛgu, practiced asceticism near the lake; he was greatly radiant. (03-122-1)
स्थाणुभूतो महातेजा वीरस्थानेन पाण्डव। अतिष्ठत्सुबहून्कालानेकदेशे विशां पते ॥०३-१२२-२॥
sthāṇubhūto mahātejā vīrasthānena pāṇḍava। atiṣṭhatsu bahūn kālān ekadeśe viśāṃ pate ॥03-122-2॥
[स्थाणुभूतो (sthāṇubhūtaḥ) - having become immovable like a pillar; महातेजा (mahātejā) - of great brilliance; वीरस्थानेन (vīrasthānena) - with the position of a hero; पाण्डव (pāṇḍava) - O Pāṇḍava; अतिष्ठत् (atiṣṭhat) - stood; सुबहून् (subahūn) - many; कालान् (kālān) - times; एकदेशे (ekadeśe) - in one place; विशां पते (viśāṃ pate) - O lord of men;]
(Having become immovable like a pillar, of great brilliance, with the position of a hero, O Pāṇḍava, (he) stood for many times in one place, O lord of men.)
O Pāṇḍava, O lord of men, having become immovable like a pillar and greatly radiant, he stood for a long time in one place in the posture of a hero. (03-122-2)
स वल्मीकोऽभवदृषिर्लताभिरभिसंवृतः। कालेन महता राजन्समाकीर्णः पिपीलिकैः ॥०३-१२२-३॥
sa valmīko'bhavad ṛṣir latābhir abhisaṁvṛtaḥ. kālena mahatā rājan samākīrṇaḥ pipīlikaiḥ ॥03-122-3॥
[स (sa) - he; वल्मीकोऽभवत् (valmīkaḥ abhavat) - an anthill (valmīkaḥ) became; ऋषिः (ṛṣiḥ) - the sage; लताभिः (latābhiḥ) - by creepers; अभिसंवृतः (abhisaṁvṛtaḥ) - enveloped; कालेन (kālena) - by time; महता (mahatā) - great; राजन् (rājan) - O king; समाकीर्णः (samākīrṇaḥ) - covered; पिपीलिकैः (pipīlikaiḥ) - with ants;]
(He became an anthill, the sage, enveloped by creepers; by great time, O king, covered with ants.)
The sage became an anthill, enveloped by creepers, and after a long time, O king, he was covered with ants. (03-122-3)
तथा स संवृतो धीमान्मृत्पिण्ड इव सर्वशः। तप्यति स्म तपो राजन्वल्मीकेन समावृतः ॥०३-१२२-४॥
tathā sa saṁvṛto dhīmān mṛtpiṇḍa iva sarvaśaḥ। tapyati sma tapo rājan valmīkena samāvṛtaḥ॥03-122-4॥
[तथा (tathā) - thus; स (sa) - he; संवृतः (saṁvṛtaḥ) - enveloped; धीमान् (dhīmān) - wise; मृत्पिण्ड (mṛtpiṇḍa) - clod of earth; इव (iva) - like; सर्वशः (sarvaśaḥ) - completely; तप्यति (tapyati) - practices austerity; स्म (sma) - indeed; तपः (tapaḥ) - penance; राजन् (rājan) - O king; वल्मीकेन (valmīkena) - by an ant-hill; समावृतः (samāvṛtaḥ) - completely covered;]
(Thus he, enveloped, wise, like a clod of earth completely, practiced indeed penance, O king, completely covered by an ant-hill.)
Thus, O king, that wise man, completely enveloped like a lump of clay, practiced penance, entirely covered by an ant-hill. (03-122-4)
अथ दीर्घस्य कालस्य शर्यातिर्नाम पार्थिवः। आजगाम सरो रम्यं विहर्तुमिदमुत्तमम् ॥०३-१२२-५॥
atha dīrghasya kālasya śaryātirnāma pārthivaḥ। ājagāma saro ramyaṃ vihartumidamuttamam ॥03-122-5॥
[अथ (atha) - then; दीर्घस्य (dīrghasya) - of long; कालस्य (kālasya) - time; शर्यातिः (śaryātiḥ) - Śaryāti; नाम (nāma) - by name; पार्थिवः (pārthivaḥ) - king; आजगाम (ājagāma) - came; सरो (saro) - lake; रम्यम् (ramyam) - pleasant; विहर्तुम् (vihartum) - to sport; इदम् (idam) - this; उत्तमम् (uttamam) - excellent;]
(Then of long time Śaryāti by name king came (to) lake pleasant to sport this excellent.)
Then, after a long time, King Śaryāti by name came to this excellent and pleasant lake to sport. (03-122-5)
तस्य स्त्रीणां सहस्राणि चत्वार्यासन्परिग्रहः। एकैव च सुता शुभ्रा सुकन्या नाम भारत ॥०३-१२२-६॥
tasya strīṇāṃ sahasrāṇi catvāri āsan parigrahaḥ. ekaiva ca sutā śubhrā sukan'yā nāma bhārata ॥03-122-6॥

(Of him, of women, thousands four were wives. Only one and daughter auspicious Sukanya by name, O Bhārata.)
He had four thousand wives, O Bhārata, but only one daughter, the auspicious Sukanya, by name. (03-122-6)
सा सखीभिः परिवृता सर्वाभरणभूषिता। चङ्क्रम्यमाणा वल्मीकं भार्गवस्य समासदत् ॥०३-१२२-७॥
sā sakhībhiḥ parivṛtā sarvābharaṇabhūṣitā। caṅkramyamāṇā valmīkaṃ bhārgavasya samāsadat ॥03-122-7॥
[सा (sā) - she; सखीभिः (sakhībhiḥ) - with (her) friends; परिवृता (parivṛtā) - surrounded; सर्वाभरणभूषिता (sarvābharaṇabhūṣitā) - adorned with all ornaments; चङ्क्रम्यमाणा (caṅkramyamāṇā) - walking around; वल्मीकं (valmīkam) - the anthill; भार्गवस्य (bhārgavasya) - of Bhārgava; समासदत् (samāsadat) - approached;]
(She, surrounded by (her) friends, adorned with all ornaments, walking around, approached the anthill of Bhārgava.)

सा चैव सुदती तत्र पश्यमाना मनोरमान्। वनस्पतीन्विचिन्वन्ती विजहार सखीवृता ॥०३-१२२-८॥
sā caiva sudatī tatra paśyamānā manoramān। vanaspatīn vicinvantī vijahāra sakhīvṛtā ॥03-122-8॥
[सा (sā) - she; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; सुदती (sudatī) - having beautiful teeth; तत्र (tatra) - there; पश्यमाना (paśyamānā) - seeing; मनोरमान् (manoramān) - pleasing; वनस्पतीन् (vanaspatīn) - trees; विचिन्वन्ती (vicinvantī) - searching; विजहार (vijahāra) - wandered; सखीवृता (sakhīvṛtā) - attended by friends;]
(She and indeed, having beautiful teeth, there, seeing pleasing trees, searching, wandered, attended by friends.)
She, indeed the beautiful-toothed lady, there, seeing delightful trees and searching them, wandered attended by her friends. (03-122-8)
रूपेण वयसा चैव मदनेन मदेन च। बभञ्ज वनवृक्षाणां शाखाः परमपुष्पिताः ॥०३-१२२-९॥
rūpeṇa vayasā caiva madanena madena ca। babhañja vanavṛkṣāṇāṃ śākhāḥ paramapuṣpitāḥ ॥03-122-9॥
[रूपेण (rūpeṇa) - by beauty; वयसा (vayasā) - by youth; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; मदनेन (madanena) - by passion; मदेन (madena) - by intoxication; च (ca) - and; बभञ्ज (babhānja) - they broke; वनवृक्षाणां (vanavṛkṣāṇāṃ) - of forest trees; शाखाः (śākhāḥ) - branches; परमपुष्पिताः (paramapuṣpitāḥ) - exceedingly blossomed;]
(By beauty, by youth, and indeed by passion, and by intoxication, they broke the branches of the forest trees, exceedingly blossomed.)
With beauty, youth, passion, and intoxication, they broke the branches of the forest trees in full bloom. (03-122-9)
तां सखीरहितामेकामेकवस्त्रामलङ्कृताम्। ददर्श भार्गवो धीमांश्चरन्तीमिव विद्युतम् ॥०३-१२२-१०॥
tāṁ sakhī-rahitām ekām eka-vastrām alaṅkṛtām। dadarśa bhārgavo dhīmāṁś carantīm iva vidyutam ॥03-122-10॥
[तां (tām) - her; सखी-रहिताम् (sakhī-rahitām) - bereft of companions; एकाम् (ekām) - alone; एक-वस्त्राम् (eka-vastrām) - in a single garment; अलङ्कृताम् (alaṅkṛtām) - adorned; ददर्श (dadarśa) - he saw; भार्गवः (bhārgavaḥ) - the descendant of Bhṛgu; धीमाञ् (dhīmān) - wise; चरन्तीम् (carantīm) - wandering; इव (iva) - like; विद्युतम् (vidyutam) - lightning;]
(Her, bereft of companions, alone, in a single garment, adorned, the wise Bhārgava saw wandering, like lightning.)
The wise Bhārgava saw her—adorned, alone, bereft of companions, dressed in a single garment—wandering like lightning. (03-122-10)
तां पश्यमानो विजने स रेमे परमद्युतिः। क्षामकण्ठश्च ब्रह्मर्षिस्तपोबलसमन्वितः ॥ तामाबभाषे कल्याणीं सा चास्य न शृणोति वै ॥०३-१२२-११॥
tāṁ paśyamāno vijane sa reme paramadyutiḥ। kṣāmakaṇṭhaś ca brahmarṣis tapobalasamanvitaḥ॥ tām ābabhāṣe kalyāṇīṁ sā cāsya na śṛṇoti vai॥03-122-11॥
[तां (tāṁ) - her; पश्यमानः (paśyamānaḥ) - seeing; विजने (vijane) - in solitude; सः (saḥ) - he; रेमे (reme) - took delight; परमद्युतिः (paramadyutiḥ) - of supreme radiance; क्षामकण्ठः (kṣāmakaṇṭhaḥ) - with thin/lean neck; च (ca) - and; ब्रह्मर्षिः (brahmarṣiḥ) - the brahma-rṣi (sage); तपःबलसमन्वितः (tapo-bala-samanvitaḥ) - endowed with the power of austerity; ताम् (tām) - to her; अबभाषे (ābabhāṣe) - addressed (spoke); कल्याणीम् (kalyāṇīm) - auspicious (lady); सा (sā) - she; च (ca) - and; अस्य (asya) - his; न (na) - not; शृणोति (śṛṇoti) - hears; वै (vai) - indeed;]
(Seeing her in solitude, he of supreme radiance took delight; the brahma-rṣi with thin neck, endowed with the power of austerity. He addressed that auspicious one, but she indeed does not hear him.)
Seeing her alone, the brahma-rṣi of supreme radiance and lean neck, endowed with ascetic power, delighted in her. He addressed the auspicious lady, but she did not listen to him. (03-122-11)
ततः सुकन्या वल्मीके दृष्ट्वा भार्गवचक्षुषी। कौतूहलात्कण्टकेन बुद्धिमोहबलात्कृता ॥०३-१२२-१२॥
tataḥ sukanyā valmīke dṛṣṭvā bhārgavacakṣuṣī. kautūhalāt-kaṇṭakena buddhi-moha-balāt-kṛtā ॥03-122-12॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; सुकन्या (sukanyā) - Sukanya; वल्मीके (valmīke) - in the ant-hill; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; भार्गवचक्षुषी (bhārgava-cakṣuṣī) - with the eyes of the Bhārgava (sage); कौतूहलात् (kautūhalāt) - out of curiosity; कण्टकेन (kaṇṭakena) - with a thorn; बुद्धिमोहबलात् (buddhi-moha-balāt) - due to the power of mind-delusion; कृता (kṛtā) - made (to act);]
(Then Sukanya, having seen in the ant-hill with Bhārgava's eyes, out of curiosity, with a thorn, was made (to act) due to the power of mind-delusion.)
Then Sukanya, gazing into the ant-hill through the eyes of Bhārgava, driven by curiosity and the force of mental delusion, acted with a thorn. (03-122-12)
किं नु खल्विदमित्युक्त्वा निर्बिभेदास्य लोचने। अक्रुध्यत्स तया विद्धे नेत्रे परममन्युमान् ॥ ततः शर्यातिसैन्यस्य शकृन्मूत्रं समावृणोत् ॥०३-१२२-१३॥
kiṁ nu khalvidam ity uktvā nirbibhedāsya locane। akrudhyat sa tayā viddhe netre paramam anyumān॥ tataḥ śaryātisainyasya śakṛnmūtraṁ samāvṛṇot॥03-122-13॥
[किं (kiṁ) - what; नु (nu) - indeed; खल्विदम् (khalvidam) - truly this; इति (iti) - thus; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having said; निर्बिभेद (nirbibheda) - pierced; अस्य (asya) - his; लोचने (locane) - eyes; अक्रुध्यत् (akrudhyat) - did not become angry; स (sa) - he; तया (tayā) - by her; विद्धे (viddhe) - having been pierced; नेत्रे (netre) - eye; परमम् (paramam) - supreme; अन्युमान् (anyumān) - wrathful; ततः (tataḥ) - then; शर्यातिसैन्यस्य (śaryātisainyasya) - of Śaryāti’s army; शकृन्मूत्रम् (śakṛnmūtram) - excrement and urine; समावृणोत् (samāvṛṇot) - covered;]
(What indeed truly this, thus having said, pierced his eyes. He did not become angry; by her, having been pierced in the eye, supremely wrathful. Then of Śaryāti’s army, excrement and urine covered.)
Having said, "What truly is this?", he pierced his eyes. Even when pierced in the eye by her, he did not become angry, though possessing supreme wrath. Then, excrement and urine covered the army of Śaryāti. (03-122-13)
ततो रुद्धे शकृन्मूत्रे सैन्यमानाहदुःखितम्। तथागतमभिप्रेक्ष्य पर्यपृच्छत्स पार्थिवः ॥०३-१२२-१४॥
tato ruddhe śakṛnmūtre sainyam ānāha-duḥkhitam. tathāgatam abhiprekṣya paryapṛcchatsa pārthivaḥ ॥03-122-14॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - thereupon; रुद्धे (ruddhe) - obstructed; शकृत्-मूत्रे (śakṛt-mūtre) - in feces and urine; सैन्यम् (sainyam) - army; आनाह-दुःखितम् (ānāha-duḥkhitam) - distressed by flatulence; तथा-आगतम् (tathā-āgatam) - thus come; अभिप्रेक्ष्य (abhiprekṣya) - having noticed; पर्यपृच्छत् (paryapṛcchat) - he inquired; सः (saḥ) - he; पार्थिवः (pārthivaḥ) - the king;]
(Thereupon, with feces and urine obstructed, the army distressed by flatulence, seeing (them) thus come, the king inquired.)
Thereupon, when the army was suffering from retention of feces and urine and afflicted with flatulence, seeing them arrive in such a state, the king inquired about it. (03-122-14)
तपोनित्यस्य वृद्धस्य रोषणस्य विशेषतः। केनापकृतमद्येह भार्गवस्य महात्मनः ॥ ज्ञातं वा यदि वाज्ञातं तदृतं ब्रूत माचिरम् ॥०३-१२२-१५॥
taponityasya vṛddhasya roṣaṇasya viśeṣataḥ। kenāpakṛtam adya iha bhārgavasya mahātmanaḥ ॥ jñātaṃ vā yadi vā ajñātam tat ṛtam brūta māciram ॥03-122-15॥
[तपोनित्यस्य (taponityasya) - ever-engaged-in-austerity's; वृद्धस्य (vṛddhasya) - old man's; रोषणस्य (roṣaṇasya) - of the wrathful; विशेषतः (viśeṣataḥ) - especially; केनापि (kenāpi) - by someone; अकृतम् (akṛtam) - was done; अद्य (adya) - today; इह (iha) - here; भार्गवस्य (bhārgavasya) - of Bhārgava (Paraśurāma); महात्मनः (mahātmanaḥ) - of the great-souled; ज्ञातं (jñātam) - known; वा (vā) - or; यदि (yadi) - if; वा (vā) - or; अज्ञातं (ajñātam) - unknown; तत् (tat) - that; ऋतम् (ṛtam) - truth; ब्रूत (brūta) - tell; माचिरम् (māciram) - without delay;]
(Of the ever-engaged-in-austerity, old, wrathful one especially, by someone was done today here to Bhārgava, the great-souled; known or if unknown, that truth tell without delay.)

तमूचुः सैनिकाः सर्वे न विद्मोऽपकृतं वयम्। सर्वोपायैर्यथाकामं भवांस्तदधिगच्छतु ॥०३-१२२-१६॥
tam ūcuḥ sainikāḥ sarve na vidmo'pakṛtaṃ vayam। sarvopāyair yathākāmaṃ bhavāṃs tad adhigacchatu॥03-122-16॥
[तम् (tam) - to him; ऊचुः (ūcuḥ) - they spoke; सैनिकाः (sainikāḥ) - soldiers; सर्वे (sarve) - all; न (na) - not; विद्मः (vidmaḥ) - we know; अपकृतम् ('apakṛtam) - mischief; wrongdoing; वयम् (vayam) - we; सर्वोपायैः (sarvopāyaiḥ) - by all means; यथाकामम् (yathākāmam) - as you wish; भवान् (bhavān) - your honor; you; तत् (tat) - that; अधिगच्छतु (adhigacchatu) - may attain;]
(To him they spoke, all the soldiers: "We do not know wrong done by us. By all means, as you wish, may your honor attain that.")
All the soldiers said to him, "We do not know of any wrongdoing by us. By all means, as you wish, may you achieve that." (03-122-16)
ततः स पृथिवीपालः साम्ना चोग्रेण च स्वयम्। पर्यपृच्छत्सुहृद्वर्गं प्रत्यजानन्न चैव ते ॥०३-१२२-१७॥
tataḥ sa pṛthivī-pālaḥ sāmnā ca ugreṇa ca svayam। paryapṛcchat suhṛd-vargam pratyajānan ca eva te ॥03-122-17॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - from then; thereafter; स (sa) - he; पृथिवीपालः (pṛthivī-pālaḥ) - king (protector of earth); साम्ना (sāmnā) - with conciliation; with gentleness; च (ca) - and; उग्रेण (ugreṇa) - with sternness; with severity; च (ca) - and; स्वयम् (svayam) - himself; पर्यपृच्छत् (paryapṛcchat) - he inquired; he asked thoroughly; सुहृद्वर्गं (suhṛd-vargam) - the group of friends; circle of friends; प्रत्यजानन् (pratyajānan) - recognizing; identifying; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; certainly; ते (te) - they (his friends);]
(Thereafter he, the king, with conciliation and with sternness himself, asked the group of friends, recognizing and indeed they.)
Then he, the king, himself approached his group of friends both gently and sternly, inquiring of them, although recognizing them as well. (03-122-17)
आनाहार्तं ततो दृष्ट्वा तत्सैन्यमसुखार्दितम्। पितरं दुःखितं चापि सुकन्येदमथाब्रवीत् ॥०३-१२२-१८॥
ānāhārtaṃ tato dṛṣṭvā tat-sainyam asukhārditam। pitaraṃ duḥkhitaṃ cāpi sukanyā idam athābravīt॥03-122-18॥
[आनाहार्तम् (ānāhārtam) - afflicted by lack of food; ततः (tataḥ) - then; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; तत् (tat) - that; सैन्यम् (sainyam) - army; असुखार्दितम् (asukhārditam) - distressed by misery; पितरम् (pitaram) - (her) father; दुःखितम् (duḥkhitam) - sorrowful; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; सुकन्या (sukanyā) - Sukanyā; इदम् (idam) - this; अथ (atha) - then; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said;]
(Afflicted by lack of food, then having seen that army distressed by misery and her father also sorrowful, Sukanyā then said this.)
Then, seeing that army afflicted by lack of food and misery, and her father also sorrowful, Sukanyā spoke these words. (03-122-18)
मयाटन्त्येह वल्मीके दृष्टं सत्त्वमभिज्वलत्। खद्योतवदभिज्ञातं तन्मया विद्धमन्तिकात् ॥०३-१२२-१९॥
mayāṭantya iha valmīke dṛṣṭaṃ sattvam abhijvalat। khadyotavad abhijñātaṃ tan mayā viddham antikāt॥03-122-19॥
[मया (mayā) - by me; अटन्त्य् (aṭantya) - moving about; इह (iha) - here; वल्मीके (valmīke) - in the anthill; दृष्टं (dṛṣṭam) - seen; सत्त्वम् (sattvam) - a being; अभिज्वलत् (abhijvalat) - shining forth; खद्योतवत् (khadyotavat) - like a firefly; अभिज्ञातम् (abhijñātam) - recognized; तत् (tat) - that; मया (mayā) - by me; विद्धम् (viddham) - struck; अन्तिकात् (antikāt) - from nearby;]
(By me, moving about here in the anthill, a being shining forth was seen; like a firefly, recognized, that by me was struck from nearby.)
While I was moving here in the anthill, I saw a being shining brightly; recognizing it as a firefly, I struck it nearby. (03-122-19)
एतच्छ्रुत्वा तु शर्यातिर्वल्मीकं तूर्णमाद्रवत्। तत्रापश्यत्तपोवृद्धं वयोवृद्धं च भार्गवम् ॥०३-१२२-२०॥
etacchrutvā tu śaryātir valmīkaṃ tūrṇam ādravat. tatrāpaśyat tapovṛddhaṃ vayovṛddhaṃ ca bhārgavam ॥03-122-20॥

(He asked for the army, with joined palms, the king of the earth. From ignorance, by the child, which to you was done, that to forgive you ought.)

ततोऽब्रवीन्महीपालं च्यवनो भार्गवस्तदा। रूपौदार्यसमायुक्तां लोभमोहबलात्कृताम् ॥०३-१२२-२२॥
tato'bravīn mahīpālaṃ cyavano bhārgavas tadā। rūpaudāryasamāyuktāṃ lobhamohabalātkṛtām ॥03-122-22॥

(Then Cyavana, the Bhārgava, at that time spoke to the king: (about one) endowed with beauty and generosity, overpowered by the force of greed and delusion.)

तामेव प्रतिगृह्याहं राजन्दुहितरं तव। क्षमिष्यामि महीपाल सत्यमेतद्ब्रवीमि ते ॥०३-१२२-२३॥
tāmeva pratigṛhyāhaṃ rājanduḥitaraṃ tava। kṣamiṣyāmi mahīpāla satyametadbravīmi te॥03-122-23॥

(Her indeed, having accepted, I, O King, your daughter, I will pardon, O lord of the earth; truly this I speak to you.)
O King, having accepted her—your daughter—I will forgive; O lord of the earth, this I truly say to you. (03-122-23)
ऋषेर्वचनमाज्ञाय शर्यातिरविचारयन्। ददौ दुहितरं तस्मै च्यवनाय महात्मने ॥०३-१२२-२४॥
ṛṣer vacanam ājñāya śaryātiḥ avicārayan। dadau duhitaraṃ tasmai cyavanāya mahātmane॥03-122-24॥

प्रतिगृह्य च तां कन्यां च्यवनः प्रससाद ह। प्राप्तप्रसादो राजा स ससैन्यः पुनराव्रजत् ॥०३-१२२-२५॥
pratigṛhya ca tāṁ kanyāṁ cyavanaḥ prasasāda ha। prāptaprasādo rājā sa sasenyaḥ punarāvrajat ॥03-122-25॥
[प्रतिगृह्य (pratigṛhya) - having accepted; च (ca) - and; तां (tāṁ) - her; कन्यां (kanyāṁ) - maiden; च्यवनः (cyavanaḥ) - Cyavana; प्रससाद (prasasāda) - became pleased; ह (ha) - indeed; प्राप्तप्रसादः (prāptaprasādaḥ) - having obtained the favor; राजा (rājā) - king; स (sa) - he; ससैन्यः (sasenyaḥ) - with army; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; आव्रजत् (āvrajat) - returned;]
(Having accepted her, the maiden, Cyavana indeed became pleased. Having obtained the favor, the king, with his army, again returned.)
Cyavana, having accepted the maiden, was indeed pleased. The king, having gained his favor, returned again with his army. (03-122-25)
सुकन्यापि पतिं लब्ध्वा तपस्विनमनिन्दिता। नित्यं पर्यचरत्प्रीत्या तपसा नियमेन च ॥०३-१२२-२६॥
sukanyāpi patiṁ labdhvā tapasvinamaninditā। nityaṁ paryacaradprītyā tapasā niyamena ca ॥03-122-26॥
[सुकन्या (sukanyā) - Sukanya; अपि (api) - also; पतिम् (patiṁ) - husband; लब्ध्वा (labdhvā) - having obtained; तपस्विनम् (tapasvinam) - ascetic; अनिन्दिता (aninditā) - blameless (one); नित्यं (nityaṁ) - always; पर्यचरत् (paryacarad) - attended (served); प्रीत्या (prītyā) - with affection; तपसा (tapasā) - with austerity; नियमेन (niyamena) - with discipline; च (ca) - and;]
(Sukanya also, having obtained her husband, the ascetic, blameless one, always attended (him) with affection, with austerity, and with discipline.)
Sukanya too, having gained her ascetic and blameless husband, always served him with love, with austerity, and with self-discipline. (03-122-26)
अग्नीनामतिथीनां च शुश्रूषुरनसूयिका। समाराधयत क्षिप्रं च्यवनं सा शुभानना ॥०३-१२२-२७॥
agnīnām-atithīnām ca śuśrūṣur-anasūyikā। samārādhayata kṣipraṃ cyavanaṃ sā śubhānanā ॥03-122-27॥
[अग्नीनाम् (agnīnām) - of the fires; अतिथीनाम् (atithīnām) - of guests; च (ca) - and; शुश्रूषु (śuśrūṣu) - one intent on service; अनसूयिका (anasūyikā) - not envious; समाराधयत् (samārādhayat) - she greatly worshipped; क्षिप्रं (kṣipram) - quickly; च्यवनम् (cyavanam) - Cyavana; सा (sā) - she; शुभानना (śubhānanā) - with auspicious face;]
(Of the fires, of guests, and intent on service, not envious, she quickly and greatly worshipped Cyavana, she with auspicious face.)
She, who was intent on service, not envious, and with an auspicious face, quickly and devotedly served Cyavana as well as the sacred fires and guests. (03-122-27)
