It is heard, O king, that Purandara (Indra), satisfied here by Nṛga, the sacrificer, and by Soma, became content and attained exhilaration. (03-121-1)
इह देवैः सहेन्द्रैर्हि प्रजापतिभिरेव च। इष्टं बहुविधैर्यज्ञैर्महद्भिर्भूरिदक्षिणैः ॥०३-१२१-२॥
iha devaiḥ sahendrair hi prajapatibhir eva ca। iṣṭaṃ bahuvidhair yajñaiḥ mahadbhiḥ bhūridakṣiṇaiḥ॥03-121-2॥

तस्य सप्तसु यज्ञेषु सर्वमासीद्धिरण्मयम्। वानस्पत्यं च भौमं च यद्द्रव्यं नियतं मखे ॥०३-१२१-४॥
tasya saptasu yajñeṣu sarvam āsīd dhiraṇmayam. vānaspatyaṃ ca bhaumaṃ ca yad dravyaṃ niyataṃ makhe ॥03-121-4॥

(Of him in the seven sacrifices all was made of gold. Belonging to plants and earthly, and whatever substance assigned in the sacrifice.)

तेष्वेव चास्य यज्ञेषु प्रयोगाः सप्त विश्रुताः। सप्तैकैकस्य यूपस्य चषालाश्चोपरि स्थिताः ॥०३-१२१-५॥

सिकता वा यथा लोके यथा वा दिवि तारकाः। यथा वा वर्षतो धारा असङ्ख्येयाश्च केनचित् ॥०३-१२१-८॥
sikatā vā yathā loke yathā vā divi tārakāḥ। yathā vā varṣato dhārā asaṅkhyeyāś ca kenacit ॥03-121-8॥
[सिकता (sikatā) - grains of sand; वा (vā) - or; यथा (yathā) - as; लोके (loke) - in the world; यथा (yathā) - as; वा (vā) - or; दिवि (divi) - in the sky; तारकाः (tārakāḥ) - stars; यथा (yathā) - as; वा (vā) - or; वर्षतो (varṣataḥ) - of raining; धारा (dhārā) - streams (of rain); असङ्ख्येयाः (asaṅkhyeyāḥ) - innumerable; च (ca) - and; केनचित् (kenacit) - by anyone;]
(Grains of sand or as in the world, as or in the sky the stars, as or of raining streams innumerable and by anyone.)
Like the grains of sand in the world, or like the stars in the sky, or the innumerable streams of rain—none can count them. (03-121-8)
तथैव तदसङ्ख्येयं धनं यत्प्रददौ गयः। सदस्येभ्यो महाराज तेषु यज्ञेषु सप्तसु ॥०३-१२१-९॥
tathaiva tadasaṅkhyeyaṃ dhanaṃ yatpradadau gayaḥ। sadasyebhyo mahārāja teṣu yajñeṣu saptasu ॥03-121-9॥
[तथा एव (tathā eva) - in the same way; indeed; तत् असङ्ख्येयं धनं (tat asaṅkhyeyaṃ dhanaṃ) - that countless wealth; यत् प्रददौ गयः (yat pradadau gayaḥ) - which Gaya gave; सदस्येभ्यः (sadasyebhyaḥ) - to the members (of the sacrificial assembly); महाराज (mahārāja) - O great king; तेषु यज्ञेषु सप्तसु (teṣu yajñeṣu saptasu) - in those seven sacrifices;]
(In the same way, that countless wealth which Gaya gave to the members (of the sacrificial assembly), O great king, in those seven sacrifices.)

भवेत्सङ्ख्येयमेतद्वै यदेतत्परिकीर्तितम्। न सा शक्या तु सङ्ख्यातुं दक्षिणा दक्षिणावतः ॥०३-१२१-१०॥
bhavetsaṅkhyeyametadvai yadetatparikīrtitam। na sā śakyā tu saṅkhyātuṁ dakṣiṇā dakṣiṇāvataḥ॥03-121-10॥
[भवेत् (bhavet) - there would be; सङ्ख्येयम् (saṅkhyeyam) - countable; एतत् (etat) - this; वै (vai) - indeed; यत् (yat) - which; एतत् (etat) - this; परिकीर्तितम् (parikīrtitam) - described; न (na) - not; सा (sā) - that; शक्या (śakyā) - possible; तु (tu) - but; सङ्ख्यातुम् (saṅkhyātum) - to enumerate; दक्षिणा (dakṣiṇā) - gift; दक्षिणावतः (dakṣiṇāvataḥ) - of the one possessing gifts;]
(There would be countable this indeed, which this described. Not that possible but to enumerate gift of the one possessing gifts.)
That which has been described here could be countable indeed; but the gift of the one who possesses gifts cannot be enumerated. (03-121-10)
हिरण्मयीभिर्गोभिश्च कृताभिर्विश्वकर्मणा। ब्राह्मणांस्तर्पयामास नानादिग्भ्यः समागतान् ॥०३-१२१-११॥
hiraṇmayībhir gobhiś ca kṛtābhir viśvakarmaṇā। brāhmaṇāṁs tarpayām āsa nānā-digbhyaḥ samāgatān ॥03-121-11॥
[हिरण्मयीभिः (hiraṇmayībhiḥ) - by golden; गोभिः (gobhiḥ) - by cows; च (ca) - and; कृताभिः (kṛtābhiḥ) - made (created); विश्वकर्मणा (viśvakarmaṇā) - by Viśvakarman; ब्राह्मणान् (brāhmaṇān) - the Brāhmaṇas; तर्पयाम् (tarpayām) - I/he/she caused to be satisfied; आस (āsa) - he did; नानादिग्भ्यः (nānā-digbhyaḥ) - from various directions; समागतान् (samāgatān) - assembled;]
(He caused the Brāhmaṇas assembled from various directions to be satisfied with golden cows and those made (created) by Viśvakarman.)

अल्पावशेषा पृथिवी चैत्यैरासीन्महात्मनः। गयस्य यजमानस्य तत्र तत्र विशां पते ॥०३-१२१-१२॥

(Having little remaining, the earth was by sanctuaries of the great-souled one, of Gaya, the sacrificer, here and there, O lord of men.)
O lord of men, here and there, the earth was left with little remaining due to the sanctuaries of the great-souled Gaya, the sacrificer. (03-121-12)
स लोकान्प्राप्तवानैन्द्रान्कर्मणा तेन भारत। सलोकतां तस्य गच्छेत्पयोष्ण्यां य उपस्पृशेत् ॥०३-१२१-१३॥
sa lokān prāptavān aindrān karmaṇā tena bhārata. salokatāṃ tasya gacchet payoṣṇyāṃ ya upaspṛśet ॥03-121-13॥
[स (sa) - he; लोकान् (lokān) - worlds (accusative plural); प्राप्तवान् (prāptavān) - obtained; ऐन्द्रान् (aindrān) - of Indra (king of gods); कर्मणा (karmaṇā) - by deed; तेन (tena) - by that; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata; सलोकतां (salokatām) - same world-existence; तस्य (tasya) - of him; गच्छेत् (gacchet) - (one) may attain; पयोष्ण्यां (payoṣṇyām) - in the (river) Payoshni; यः (yaḥ) - who; उपस्पृशेत् (upaspṛśet) - may touch (bathe);]
(He worlds obtained Indra's by deed by that, O Bhārata. Same world-existence of him may attain in Payoshni who may touch (bathe). (03-121-13))
He obtained the worlds of Indra by that deed, O Bhārata. Whoever bathes in the Payoshni attains the same world as him. (03-121-13)
तस्मात्त्वमत्र राजेन्द्र भ्रातृभिः सहितोऽनघ। उपस्पृश्य महीपाल धूतपाप्मा भविष्यसि ॥०३-१२१-१४॥
tasmāttvamatra rājendra bhrātṛbhiḥ sahito' nagha। upaspṛśya mahīpāla dhūtapāpmā bhaviṣyasi ॥03-121-14॥
[तस्मात् (tasmāt) - therefore; त्वम् (tvam) - you; अत्र (atra) - here; राजेन्द्र (rājendra) - O king; भ्रातृभिः (bhrātṛbhiḥ) - with (your) brothers; सहितः (sahitaḥ) - together; अनघ (anagha) - sinless one; उपस्पृश्य (upaspṛśya) - having touched (with water); महीपाल (mahīpāla) - O protector of the earth; धूतपाप्मा (dhūtapāpmā) - with sin dispelled; भविष्यसि (bhaviṣyasi) - you will become;]
(Therefore, you here, O king, together with (your) brothers, O sinless one, having touched (with water), O protector of the earth, with sin dispelled, you will become.)
Therefore, here, O king, together with your brothers, O sinless one, after performing the water-touching rite, you, O ruler of the earth, will become freed from sin. (03-121-14)

स पयोष्ण्यां नरश्रेष्ठः स्नात्वा वै भ्रातृभिः सह। वैडूर्यपर्वतं चैव नर्मदां च महानदीम् ॥ समाजगाम तेजस्वी भ्रातृभिः सहितोऽनघः ॥०३-१२१-१५॥
sa payoṣṇyāṁ naraśreṣṭhaḥ snātvā vai bhrātṛbhiḥ saha। vaiḍūryaparvataṁ caiva narmadāṁ ca mahānadīm॥ samājagāma tejasvī bhrātṛbhiḥ sahito'naghaḥ॥03-121-15॥
[स (sa) - he; पयोष्ण्यां (payoṣṇyām) - in Payoṣṇī (river); नरश्रेष्ठः (naraśreṣṭhaḥ) - best among men; स्नात्वा (snātvā) - having bathed; वै (vai) - indeed; भ्रातृभिः (bhrātṛbhiḥ) - with (his) brothers; सह (saha) - together; वैडूर्यपर्वतं (vaiḍūryaparvataṁ) - Vaiḍūrya mountain; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; नर्मदां (narmadām) - the Narmadā (river); च (ca) - and; महानदीम् (mahānadīm) - the great river; समाजगाम (samājagāma) - he reached; तेजस्वी (tejasvī) - radiant; भ्रातृभिः (bhrātṛbhiḥ) - with (his) brothers; सहितः (sahitaḥ) - accompanied; अनघः (anaghaḥ) - sinless;]
(He, in Payoṣṇī, best among men, having bathed, indeed, with brothers, together, Vaiḍūrya mountain, and indeed, the Narmadā and the great river, reached, radiant, with brothers, accompanied, sinless.)
He, the best among men, having bathed in the river Payoṣṇī together with his brothers, indeed reached the Vaiḍūrya mountain and the great river Narmadā, radiant and sinless, accompanied by his brothers. (03-121-15)
ततोऽस्य सर्वाण्याचख्यौ लोमशो भगवानृषिः। तीर्थानि रमणीयानि तत्र तत्र विशां पते ॥०३-१२१-१६॥
tato'sya sarvāṇyācakhyau lomaśo bhagavān ṛṣiḥ। tīrthāni ramaṇīyāni tatra tatra viśāṃ pate ॥03-121-16॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; अस्य (asya) - to him; सर्वाणि (sarvāṇi) - all; आचख्यौ (ācakhyau) - narrated; लोमशः (lomaśaḥ) - Lomaśa; भगवान् (bhagavān) - venerable; ऋषिः (ṛṣiḥ) - sage; तीर्थानि (tīrthāni) - the sacred fords; रमणीयानि (ramaṇīyāni) - beautiful; तत्र तत्र (tatra tatra) - here and there; विशां पते (viśāṃ pate) - O lord of men;]
(Then to him all narrated Lomaśa, the venerable sage, the sacred fords, beautiful, here and there, O lord of men.)
Then the venerable sage Lomaśa narrated to him all the beautiful sacred fords here and there, O lord of men. (03-121-16)
यथायोगं यथाप्रीति प्रययौ भ्रातृभिः सह। ददमानोऽसकृद्वित्तं ब्राह्मणेभ्यः सहस्रशः ॥०३-१२१-१७॥
yathāyogaṃ yathāprīti prayayau bhrātṛbhiḥ saha। dadamāno'sakṛdvittaṃ brāhmaṇebhyaḥ sahasraśaḥ ॥03-121-17॥
[यथायोगं (yathāyogam) - according to fitness; यथाप्रीति (yathāprīti) - according to affection; प्रययौ (prayayau) - he departed; भ्रातृभिः (bhrātṛbhiḥ) - with brothers; सह (saha) - together; ददमानः (dadamānaḥ) - giving; असकृत् (asakṛt) - repeatedly; वित्तं (vittam) - wealth; ब्राह्मणेभ्यः (brāhmaṇebhyaḥ) - to Brāhmaṇas; सहस्रशः (sahasraśaḥ) - by thousands;]
(According to fitness, according to affection, he departed together with his brothers, giving wealth to Brāhmaṇas repeatedly in thousands.)
He departed along with his brothers, distributing wealth to Brāhmaṇas in thousands, according to appropriateness and affection. (03-121-17)

[देवानाम् (devānām) - of the gods; एति (eti) - he attains; कौन्तेय (kaunteya) - O son of Kunti; तथा (tathā) - also; राज्ञाम् (rājñām) - of kings; सलोकताम् (salokatām) - joint dwelling; being in the same world; वैडूर्यपर्वतम् (vaiḍūryaparvatam) - the Vaiḍūrya mountain; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; नर्मदाम् (narmadām) - the Narmadā (river); अवतीर्य (avatīrya) - having descended; च (ca) - and;]
(Of the gods he attains, O Kaunteya, also of kings joint dwelling; Vaiḍūrya mountain having seen, the Narmadā having descended and.)
O Kaunteya, having descended to the Narmadā and after seeing the Vaiḍūrya mountain, he attains the joint dwelling with the gods as well as with kings. (03-121-18)
सन्धिरेष नरश्रेष्ठ त्रेताया द्वापरस्य च। एतमासाद्य कौन्तेय सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते ॥०३-१२१-१९॥
sandhireṣa naraśreṣṭha tretāyā dvāparasya ca। etam āsādya kaunteya sarvapāpaiḥ pramucyate॥03-121-19॥
[सन्धि (sandhi) - junction; period; conjunction; एष (eṣa) - this; नरश्रेष्ठ (naraśreṣṭha) - best of men; त्रेताया (tretāyāḥ) - of Tretā (yuga); द्वापरस्य (dvāparasya) - of Dvāpara (yuga); च (ca) - and; एतम् (etam) - this; आसाद्य (āsādya) - having reached; having approached; कौन्तेय (kaunteya) - son of Kuntī; Arjuna; सर्वपापैः (sarvapāpaiḥ) - from all sins; प्रमुच्यते (pramucyate) - is released; is freed;]
(This junction, O best of men, of Tretā and Dvāpara, having reached this, O Kaunteya, from all sins is released.)
O best of men, this is the junction of the Tretā and Dvāpara ages. Whoever, O Kaunteya, arrives at this time is freed from all sins. (03-121-19)
एष शर्यातियज्ञस्य देशस्तात प्रकाशते। साक्षाद्यत्रापिबत्सोममश्विभ्यां सह कौशिकः ॥०३-१२१-२०॥
eṣa śaryāti-yajñasya deśas-tāta prakāśate. sākṣād yatrā’pibat somam aśvibhyāṁ saha kauśikaḥ ॥03-121-20॥

(This of Śaryāti’s sacrifice place, dear one, becomes manifest. Directly where drank Soma with the two Aśvins together Kauśika.)
Dear one, this is the very site of Śaryāti’s sacrifice that becomes visible—the spot where Kauśika himself directly drank Soma together with the two Aśvins. (03-121-20)
चुकोप भार्गवश्चापि महेन्द्रस्य महातपाः। संस्तम्भयामास च तं वासवं च्यवनः प्रभुः ॥ सुकन्यां चापि भार्यां स राजपुत्रीमिवाप्तवान् ॥०३-१२१-२१॥
cukopa bhārgavaś cāpi mahendrasya mahātapāḥ। saṁstambhayāmāsa ca taṁ vāsavaṁ cyavanaḥ prabhuḥ॥ sukanyāṁ cāpi bhāryāṁ sa rājaputrīm ivāptavān॥03-121-21॥
[चुकोप (cukopa) - became angry; भार्गवः (bhārgavaḥ) - the descendant of Bhṛgu; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; महेन्द्रस्य (mahendrasya) - of Mahendra (Indra); महातपाः (mahātapāḥ) - the great ascetic; संस्तम्भयामास (saṁstambhayāmāsa) - caused to be restrained; च (ca) - and; तं (taṁ) - him; वासवं (vāsavam) - Vāsava (Indra); च्यवनः (cyavanaḥ) - Cyavana; प्रभुः (prabhuḥ) - the powerful; सुकन्यां (sukanyāṁ) - Sukanyā; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; भार्यां (bhāryāṁ) - wife; स (sa) - he; राजपुत्रीम् (rājaputrīm) - princess; इव (iva) - like; आप्तवान् (āptavān) - obtained;]
(Became angry, the descendant of Bhṛgu, and also at Mahendra, the great ascetic. Caused to be restrained also him, Vāsava, Cyavana the powerful. Sukanyā also as wife, he, the princess, like, obtained.)
The great ascetic, the descendant of Bhṛgu, became angry with Mahendra. Cyavana, the powerful one, restrained Vāsava himself. He also obtained Sukanyā, the princess, as his wife, just as if she were a royal maiden. (03-121-21)

kathaṃ viṣṭambhitastena bhagavānpākaśāsanaḥ। kimarthaṃ bhārgavaścāpi kopaṃ cakre mahātapāḥ ॥03-121-22॥

नासत्यौ च कथं ब्रह्मन्कृतवान्सोमपीथिनौ। एतत्सर्वं यथावृत्तमाख्यातु भगवान्मम ॥०३-१२१-२३॥
nāsatyau ca kathaṃ brahman kṛtavān somapīthinau। etat sarvaṃ yathāvṛttam ākhyātu bhagavān mama ॥03-121-23॥
[नासत्यौ (nāsatyau) - the two Nāsaṭyas; (the Aśvins;) च (ca) - and; कथम् (katham) - how; ब्रह्मन् (brahman) - O Brāhmaṇa; कृतवान् (kṛtavān) - did (make); सोमपीथिनौ (somapīthinau) - fit to drink Soma; एतत् (etat) - this; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; यथावृत्तम् (yathāvṛttam) - as it occurred; आख्यातु (ākhyātu) - may he tell; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the revered one; मम (mama) - to me;]

O Brāhmaṇa, how did (he) make the two Nāsaṭyas fit to drink Soma? May the revered one relate all this to me as it happened. (03-121-23)
