अग्नीनां विविधो वंशः कीर्तितस्ते मयानघ। शृणु जन्म तु कौरव्य कार्त्तिकेयस्य धीमतः ॥०३-२१३-१॥
agnīnām vividhō vamśaḥ kīrtitaste mayānagha। śṛṇu janma tu kauravya kārttikeyasya dhīmataḥ ॥03-213-1॥
[अग्नीनां (agnīnām) - of the fires; विविधः (vividhō) - varied; वंशः (vamśaḥ) - lineage; कीर्तितः (kīrtitaḥ) - has been described; ते (te) - to you; मया (mayā) - by me; अनघ (anagha) - O sinless one; शृणु (śṛṇu) - hear; जन्म (janma) - birth; तु (tu) - but; कौरव्य (kauravya) - O descendant of Kuru; कार्त्तिकेयस्य (kārttikeyasya) - of Kārttikeya; धीमतः (dhīmataḥ) - of the wise (one);]
(Of the fires, the varied lineage has been described to you by me, O sinless one. Hear the birth, but, O descendant of Kuru, of Kārttikeya the wise.)
O sinless one, I have described to you the varied lineages of the fires. Now, O descendant of Kuru, listen to the birth of the wise Kārttikeya. (03-213-1)
अद्भुतस्याद्भुतं पुत्रं प्रवक्ष्याम्यमितौजसम्। जातं सप्तर्षिभार्याभिर्ब्रह्मण्यं कीर्तिवर्धनम् ॥०३-२१३-२॥
adbhutasya adbhutaṃ putraṃ pravakṣyāmyamitaujasam। jātaṃ saptarṣibhāryābhirbrahmaṇyaṃ kīrtivardhanam॥03-213-2॥
[अद्भुतस्य (adbhutasya) - of the wonderful; अद्भुतं (adbhutam) - wonderful; पुत्रं (putram) - son; प्रवक्ष्यामि (pravakṣyāmi) - I shall declare; अमितौजसम् (amitaujasam) - of boundless energy; जातं (jātam) - born; सप्तर्षिभार्याभिः (saptarṣibhāryābhiḥ) - by the wives of the seven ṛṣis; ब्रह्मण्यं (brahmaṇyam) - devoted to Brahman; कीर्तिवर्धनम् (kīrtivardhanam) - increaser of fame;]
(Of the wonderful, the wonderful son of boundless energy I shall declare, born by the wives of the seven ṛṣis, devoted to Brahman, increaser of fame.)
I shall describe the wonderful son of the wondrous one, who possesses boundless energy, was born from the wives of the seven ṛṣis, is devoted to Brahman, and increases fame. (03-213-2)
देवासुराः पुरा यत्ता विनिघ्नन्तः परस्परम्। तत्राजयन्सदा देवान्दानवा घोररूपिणः ॥०३-२१३-३॥
devāsurāḥ purā yattā viniġhnantaḥ parasparam। tatrājayansadā devāndānavā ghorarūpiṇaḥ ॥03-213-3॥
[देवासुराः (devāsurāḥ) - the gods and asuras; (devāḥ: gods; asurāḥ: asuras; plural;) ; पुरा (purā) - formerly; in the past; यत्ता (yattāḥ) - engaged; prepared; विनिघ्नन्तः (viniġhnantaḥ) - striking down; destroying; परस्परम् (parasparam) - one another; तत्र (tatra) - there; अजयन् (ajayan) - they conquered; सदा (sadā) - always; देवान् (devān) - the gods; दानवाः (dānavāḥ) - the danavas; (a class of asuras/demons); घोररूपिणः (ghorarūpiṇaḥ) - of terrible form; (ghora: terrible; rūpiṇaḥ: formed;);]
(The gods and asuras, formerly engaged, striking down one another. There, the danavas of terrible form always conquered the gods.)
In former times the gods and asuras were engaged in mutual conflict. There, the danavas of terrible form always defeated the gods. (03-213-3)
वध्यमानं बलं दृष्ट्वा बहुशस्तैः पुरंदरः। स्वसैन्यनायकार्थाय चिन्तामाप भृशं तदा ॥०३-२१३-४॥
vadhyamānaṃ balaṃ dṛṣṭvā bahuśastaiḥ puraṃdaraḥ। svasainyanāyakārthāya cintām āpa bhṛśaṃ tadā ॥03-213-4॥
[वध्यमानं (vadhyamānam) - being slain; बलं (balam) - army; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; बहुशस्तैः (bahuśastaiḥ) - by many weapons; पुरंदरः (puraṃdaraḥ) - Purandara; स्वसैन्यनायकार्थाय (svasainyanāyakārthāya) - for the sake of his army's leader; चिन्ताम् (cintām) - worry; आप (āpa) - experienced; भृशं (bhṛśam) - intensely; तदा (tadā) - then;]
(Having seen his army being slain by many weapons, Purandara then intensely experienced worry for the sake of his army's leader.)
Purandara, seeing his army being slain with many weapons, then became greatly anxious for the sake of his army's leader. (03-213-4)
देवसेनां दानवैर्यो भग्नां दृष्ट्वा महाबलः। पालयेद्वीर्यमाश्रित्य स ज्ञेयः पुरुषो मया ॥०३-२१३-५॥
devasenāṁ dānavairyo bhagnāṁ dṛṣṭvā mahābalaḥ। pālayedvīryamāśritya sa jñeyaḥ puruṣo mayā॥03-213-5॥
[देवसेनाम् (devasenām) - army of the devas; दानवैः (dānavaiḥ) - by the dānavas; यः (yaḥ) - who; भग्नाम् (bhagnām) - defeated; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; महाबलः (mahābalaḥ) - mighty one; पालयेत् (pālayet) - would protect; वीर्यम् (vīryam) - strength; आश्रित्य (āśritya) - having resorted to; सः (saḥ) - he; ज्ञेयः (jñeyaḥ) - should be known; पुरुषः (puruṣaḥ) - man; मया (mayā) - by me;]
(Having seen the army of the devas defeated by the dānavas, the mighty one, having resorted to strength, would protect; he should be known by me (as a) man.)
He who, having seen the army of the devas defeated by the dānavas, would, relying on strength, protect (it) — that one should be known by me as a true man. (03-213-5)
स शैलं मानसं गत्वा ध्यायन्नर्थमिमं भृशम्। शुश्रावार्तस्वरं घोरमथ मुक्तं स्त्रिया तदा ॥०३-२१३-६॥
sa śailaṃ mānasaṃ gatvā dhyāyann artham imaṃ bhṛśam। śuśrāv ārta-svaraṃ ghoram atha muktaṃ striyā tadā ॥03-213-6॥
[स (sa) (sa) - he; शैलम् (śailam) (śailam) - the mountain; मानसम् (mānasam) (mānasam) - Mānasa (proper noun, name of a mountain, or associated with mind); गत्वा (gatvā) (gatvā) - having gone; ध्यायन् (dhyāyan) (dhyāyan) - meditating; अर्थम् (artham) (artham) - the meaning; इमम् (imam) (imam) - this; भृशम् (bhṛśam) (bhṛśam) - intently; शुश्राव (śuśrāva) (śuśrāva) - heard; आर्तस्वरम् (ārta-svaram) (ārta-svaram) - distressed voice; घोरम् (ghoram) (ghoram) - terrible; अथ (atha) (atha) - then; मुक्तम् (muktam) (muktam) - uttered; स्त्रिया (striyā) (striyā) - by a woman; तदा (tadā) (tadā) - at that time;]
(He, having gone to the Mānasa mountain, meditating intently on this meaning, then heard a terrible distressed voice uttered by a woman at that time.)

अभिधावतु मा कश्चित्पुरुषस्त्रातु चैव ह। पतिं च मे प्रदिशतु स्वयं वा पतिरस्तु मे ॥०३-२१३-७॥
abhidhāvatu mā kaścitpuruṣastrātu caiva ha. patiṁ ca me pradiśatu svayaṁ vā patirastu me ॥03-213-7॥
[अभिधावतु (abhidhāvatu) - let (him) run towards; मा (mā) - to me; कश्चित् (kaścit) - anyone; पुरुषः (puruṣaḥ) - man; त्रातु (trātu) - let (him) save; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; ह (ha) - verily; पतिं (patiṁ) - husband; च (ca) - and; मे (me) - to me; प्रदिशतु (pradiśatu) - let (him) indicate/give/show; स्वयम् (svayam) - himself; वा (vā) - or; पतिः (patiḥ) - husband; अस्तु (astu) - may be; मे (me) - mine;]
(Let anyone run towards me, let a man save (me) indeed. And let a husband be indicated to me, or let there be a husband for me himself.)
Let someone come to me, let some man indeed save me. And let someone give me a husband, or let a husband himself be mine. (03-213-7)
पुरंदरस्तु तामाह मा भैर्नास्ति भयं तव। एवमुक्त्वा ततोऽपश्यत्केशिनं स्थितमग्रतः ॥०३-२१३-८॥
Puraṁdaras tu tām āha mā bhair nāsti bhayaṁ tava. evam uktvā tato 'paśyat keśinaṁ sthitam agrataḥ ॥03-213-8॥
[पुरंदरः (puraṁdaraḥ) - Indra; breaker of forts; तु (tu) - but; ताम् (tām) - her; आह (āha) - said; मा (mā) - do not; भैः (bhaiḥ) - fear; नास्ति (nāsti) - there is not; भयम् (bhayam) - fear; तव (tava) - your; एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having said; ततः (tataḥ) - then; अपश्यत् (apaśyat) - saw; केशिनम् (keśinam) - Keśin (proper name); स्थितम् (sthitam) - standing; अग्रतः (agrataḥ) - in front;]
(But Indra said to her, "Do not fear; there is not fear for you." Thus having said, then he saw Keśin standing in front.)
But Indra said to her, "Do not be afraid; there is no danger for you." Having thus spoken, he then saw Keśin standing before him. (03-213-8)
किरीटिनं गदापाणिं धातुमन्तमिवाचलम्। हस्ते गृहीत्वा तां कन्यामथैनं वासवोऽब्रवीत् ॥०३-२१३-९॥
kirīṭinaṃ gadāpāṇiṃ dhātumantam-iva-acalam। haste gṛhītvā tāṃ kanyām atha enaṃ vāsavo 'bravīt॥03-213-9॥
[किरीटिनं (kirīṭinam) - wearing a crown; गदापाणिं (gadāpāṇim) - holding a mace; धातुमन्तम् (dhātumantam) - possessed of minerals; इव (iva) - like; अचलम् (acalam) - mountain; हस्ते (haste) - in (his) hand; गृहीत्वा (gṛhītvā) - having taken; तां (tām) - that; कन्याम् (kanyām) - maiden; अथ (atha) - then; एनम् (enam) - him; वासवः (vāsavaḥ) - Vāsava (Indra); अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said;]
(Wearing a crown, holding a mace, like a mountain possessing minerals, having taken that maiden in (his) hand, then Vāsava spoke to him.)
Wearing a crown and holding a mace, firm like a mountain rich in minerals, Vāsava (Indra), having taken that maiden by the hand, then spoke to him. (03-213-9)
अनार्यकर्मन्कस्मात्त्वमिमां कन्यां जिहीर्षसि। वज्रिणं मां विजानीहि विरमास्याः प्रबाधनात् ॥०३-२१३-१०॥
anāryakarman kasmāt tvam imāṃ kanyāṃ jihīrṣasi। vajriṇaṃ māṃ vijānīhi virama asyāḥ prabādhanāt॥03-213-10॥
[अनार्यकर्मन् (anāryakarman) - one of ignoble deeds; कस्मात् (kasmāt) - why; त्वम् (tvam) - you; इमां (imām) - this; कन्यां (kanyām) - maiden; जिहीर्षसि (jihīrṣasi) - desire to take (away); वज्रिणम् (vajriṇam) - the wielder of the thunderbolt; माम् (mām) - me; विजानीहि (vijānīhi) - know; विरम (virama) - desist; अस्याः (asyāḥ) - from this (girl); प्रबाधनात् (prabādhanāt) - from harassment;]
(O one of ignoble deeds, why do you desire to take this maiden? Know me as the wielder of the thunderbolt; desist from harassing her.)
O you of unworthy deeds, why do you wish to take away this maiden? Know me to be the wielder of the thunderbolt. Cease harassing her. (03-213-10)

विसृजस्व त्वमेवैनां शक्रैषा प्रार्थिता मया। क्षमं ते जीवतो गन्तुं स्वपुरं पाकशासन ॥०३-२१३-११॥
visṛjasva tvam eva enāṃ śakra eṣā prārthitā mayā। kṣamaṃ te jīvato gantuṃ svapuraṃ pākaśāsana ॥03-213-11॥
[विसृजस्व (visṛjasva) - release; (let go); त्वम् (tvam) - you; (subject pronoun); एव (eva) - indeed; (only); एनाम् (enām) - her; (this one-feminine accusative); शक्र (śakra) - Śakra; (Indra, proper noun); एषा (eṣā) - this (feminine); (she); प्रार्थिता (prārthitā) - requested; (has been asked); मया (mayā) - by me; (instrumental singular); क्षमम् (kṣamam) - fit; (possible); ते (te) - for you; (dative singular); जीवतः (jīvataḥ) - living; (while alive); गन्तुम् (gantum) - to go; (to proceed); स्वपुरम् (svapuram) - own city; (your home city); पाकशासन (pākaśāsana) - Pākaśāsana; (O Indra, slayer of Pāka, epithet of Indra);]
(Release you indeed her, Śakra; this (one) has been requested by me. It is fit for you, living, to go to your own city, O Pākaśāsana.)
You yourself should release her, O Śakra; she has been requested by me. It is appropriate for you, while alive, to go to your own city, O Pākaśāsana. (03-213-11)

एवमुक्त्वा गदां केशी चिक्षेपेन्द्रवधाय वै। तामापतन्तीं चिच्छेद मध्ये वज्रेण वासवः ॥०३-२१३-१२॥
evam uktvā gadāṃ keśī cikṣependra-vadhāya vai। tām āpatantīṃ ciccheda madhye vajreṇa vāsavaḥ ॥03-213-12॥

(Thus having spoken, the mace Keśī hurled for the slaying of Indra indeed; that rushing (mace), Vāsava cut in the middle with the thunderbolt.)

अथास्य शैलशिखरं केशी क्रुद्धो व्यवासृजत्। तदापतन्तं सम्प्रेक्ष्य शैलशृङ्गं शतक्रतुः ॥ बिभेद राजन्वज्रेण भुवि तन्निपपात ह ॥०३-२१३-१३॥
athāsya śailaśikharaṃ keśī kruddho vyavāsṛjat. tadāpatantaṃ samprekṣya śailaśṛṅgaṃ śatakratuḥ ॥ bibheda rājanvajreṇa bhuvi tannipapāta ha ॥03-213-13॥
[अथ (atha) - then; अस्य (asya) - his; शैलशिखरं (śailaśikharam) - mountain peak; केशी (keśī) - Keśī (name); क्रुद्धः (kruddhaḥ) - angry; व्यवासृजत् (vyavāsṛjat) - hurled; तत् (tat) - that; आपतन्तं (āpatantam) - falling; सम्प्रेक्ष्य (samprekṣya) - having seen; शैलशृङ्गं (śailaśṛṅgam) - mountain summit; शतक्रतुः (śatakratuḥ) - the thousand-eyed (Indra); बिभेद (bibheda) - split; राजन् (rājan) - O king; वज्रेण (vajreṇa) - with the thunderbolt; भुवि (bhuvi) - on the ground; तत् (tat) - it; निपपात (nipapāta) - fell down; ह (ha) - indeed;]
(Then his mountain peak, Keśī, angry, hurled; that falling, having seen the mountain summit, the thousand-eyed (Indra) split, O king, with the thunderbolt, on the ground, it fell indeed. (03-213-13))
Then, O king, Keśī, in anger, hurled his mountain peak; as that mountain summit came falling, Indra, the thousand-eyed, saw it and split it with his thunderbolt, so that it fell down to the ground. (03-213-13)
पतता तु तदा केशी तेन शृङ्गेण ताडितः। हित्वा कन्यां महाभागां प्राद्रवद्भृशपीडितः ॥०३-२१३-१४॥
patatā tu tadā keśī tena śṛṅgeṇa tāḍitaḥ। hitvā kanyāṃ mahābhāgāṃ prādravadbhṛśapīḍitaḥ ॥03-213-14॥

अपयातेऽसुरे तस्मिंस्तां कन्यां वासवोऽब्रवीत्। कासि कस्यासि किं चेह कुरुषे त्वं शुभानने ॥०३-२१३-१५॥
apayāte'sure tasmiṁstāṁ kanyāṁ vāsavo'bravīt। kāsi kasyāsi kiṁ ceha kuruṣe tvaṁ śubhānane ॥03-213-15॥
[अपयाते (apayāte) - having departed; असुरे (asure) - the asura; तस्मिन् (tasmin) - at that time; ताम् (tām) - her; कन्याम् (kanyām) - the maiden; वासवः (vāsavaḥ) - Indra; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; कासि (kāsi) - who are you; कस्यासि (kasyāsi) - whose are you; किम् (kim) - what; च (ca) - and; इह (iha) - here; कुरुषे (kuruṣe) - do you do; त्वम् (tvam) - you; शुभानने (śubhānane) - O beautiful-faced one;]
(Having departed, the asura, at that time, to her, the maiden, Indra said: "Who are you? Whose are you? What and here do you, you O beautiful-faced one?" (03-213-15))

अहं प्रजापतेः कन्या देवसेनेति विश्रुता। भगिनी दैत्यसेना मे सा पूर्वं केशिना हृता ॥०३-२१३-१६॥
ahaṃ prajāpateḥ kanyā devaseneti viśrutā। bhaginī daityasenā me sā pūrvaṃ keśinā hṛtā ॥03-213-16॥

सहैवावां भगिन्यौ तु सखीभिः सह मानसम्। आगच्छावेह रत्यर्थमनुज्ञाप्य प्रजापतिम् ॥०३-२१३-१७॥
sahaivaāvāṃ bhaginyau tu sakhībhiḥ saha mānasam। āgacchāva iha raty-artham anujñāpya prajāpatim॥03-213-17॥
[सह एव आवां (saha eva āvām) - together indeed we two; भगिन्यौ (bhaginyau) - sisters; तु (tu) - but; सखीभिः सह (sakhībhiḥ saha) - with friends together; मानसम् (mānasam) - (to) Mānasā (lake); आगच्छाव (āgacchāva) - let us go; इह (iha) - here; रत्यर्थम् (raty-artham) - for enjoyment; अनुज्ञाप्य (anujñāpya) - having asked permission; प्रजापतिम् (prajāpatim) - Prajāpati (the lord of creatures);]
(Together indeed, we two sisters, but with friends together, (to) Mānasā (lake), let us go here for enjoyment, having asked permission from Prajāpati.)
Let us two sisters, together with our friends, go to Lake Mānasā here for enjoyment, after seeking permission from Prajāpati. (03-213-17)
नित्यं चावां प्रार्थयते हर्तुं केशी महासुरः। इच्छत्येनं दैत्यसेना न त्वहं पाकशासन ॥०३-२१३-१८॥
nityaṃ cāvāṃ prārthayate hartuṃ keśī mahāsuraḥ। icchatyenaṃ daityasenā na tvahaṃ pākaśāsana ॥03-213-18॥

सा हृता तेन भगवन्मुक्ताहं त्वद्बलेन तु। त्वया देवेन्द्र निर्दिष्टं पतिमिच्छामि दुर्जयम् ॥०३-२१३-१९॥
sā hṛtā tena bhagavan muktāhaṃ tvad-balena tu। tvayā devendra nirdiṣṭaṃ patim icchāmi durjayam ॥03-213-19॥

(She, being carried away by him, O venerable one, released I by your power indeed. By you, O lord of the gods, that appointed (one) husband I desire— the invincible.)
O venerable one, I, who was carried away by him, am now released by your power. O Indra, I wish for the husband appointed by you— the invincible one. (03-213-19)

You are my maternal cousin, my mother Dākṣāyaṇī. I wish you to declare your own strength yourself to me. (03-213-20)

He, the conqueror of gods, demons, yakṣas, kiṃnaras, serpents, and rākṣasas, endowed with great energy and great strength, is seen among the wicked. (03-213-23)
यस्तु सर्वाणि भूतानि त्वया सह विजेष्यति। स हि मे भविता भर्ता ब्रह्मण्यः कीर्तिवर्धनः ॥०३-२१३-२४॥
yastu sarvāṇi bhūtāni tvayā saha vijeṣyati। sa hi me bhavitā bhartā brahmaṇyaḥ kīrtivardhanaḥ॥03-213-24॥
[यः (yaḥ) - who; तु (tu) - but; सर्वाणि (sarvāṇi) - all; भूतानि (bhūtāni) - beings; त्वया (tvayā) - with you; सह (saha) - together; विजेष्यति (vijeṣyati) - will conquer; सः (saḥ) - he; हि (hi) - indeed; मे (me) - my; भविता (bhavitā) - will be; भर्ता (bhartā) - husband; ब्रह्मण्यः (brahmaṇyaḥ) - reverent to Brahman; कीर्तिवर्धनः (kīrtivardhanaḥ) - one who increases fame;]
(But who, all beings, with you, together, will conquer; he indeed my will be husband, reverent to Brahman, increaser of fame.)
But he who will conquer all beings together with you, he indeed will be my husband, one devoted to Brahman, and an increaser of fame. (03-213-24)

indras tasyā vacaḥ śrutvā duḥkhito'cintayad bhṛśam। asyā devyāḥ patir nāsti yādṛśaṃ samprabhāṣate ॥03-213-25॥
[इन्द्रः (indraḥ) - Indra; (the deity); तस्याः (tasyāḥ) - her; (of her); वचः (vacaḥ) - words; speech; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; दुःखितः (duḥkhitaḥ) - distressed; afflicted; अचिन्तयत् (acintayat) - he thought; he pondered; भृशम् (bhṛśam) - intensely; greatly; अस्या (asyā) - of her; (this woman’s); देव्याः (devyāḥ) - of the goddess; (of the noble lady); पतिः (patiḥ) - husband; नास्ति (nāsti) - is not; does not exist; यादृशम् (yādṛśam) - in the way; as; according to which; सम्प्रभाषते (samprabhāṣate) - she speaks; she talks;]
(Indra having heard her words, distressed, pondered greatly. Of this lady the husband does not exist, in the way she speaks.)
Indra, having heard her words, became deeply afflicted and thought intensely: "This lady seems to have no husband, judging by the way she speaks." (03-213-25)
अथापश्यत्स उदये भास्करं भास्करद्युतिः। सोमं चैव महाभागं विशमानं दिवाकरम् ॥०३-२१३-२६॥
athāpaśyat sa udaye bhāskaraṃ bhāskaradyutiḥ। somaṃ caiva mahābhāgaṃ viśamānaṃ divākaraṃ॥03-213-26॥
[अथ (atha) - then; अपश्यत् (apaśyat) - (he) saw; सः (saḥ) - he; उदये (udaye) - at the rising; भास्करम् (bhāskaram) - the sun; भास्करद्युतिः (bhāskaradyutiḥ) - having the brilliance of the sun; सोमम् (somam) - the moon; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; महाभागम् (mahābhāgam) - most fortunate; विशमानम् (viśamānam) - disappearing; दिवाकरम् (divākaram) - the sun;]
(Then he saw, at the rising, the sun, having the brilliance of the sun, the moon also indeed, the most fortunate, disappearing, the sun.)
Then he saw at sunrise the brilliant sun, and the most fortunate moon as it was fading away, the sun. (03-213-26)
अमावास्यां सम्प्रवृत्तं मुहूर्तं रौद्रमेव च। देवासुरं च सङ्ग्रामं सोऽपश्यदुदये गिरौ ॥०३-२१३-२७॥
amāvāsyāṁ sampravṛttaṁ muhūrtaṁ raudrameva ca। devāsuraṁ ca saṅgrāmaṁ so'paśyadudaye girau ॥03-213-27॥

(On the new moon day, a commenced moment, a fierce one indeed, and the battle of gods and asuras, he saw at the rising on the mountain.)
On the new moon day, he saw at sunrise on the mountain the fierce battle between the gods and asuras. (03-213-27)
लोहितैश्च घनैर्युक्तां पूर्वां सन्ध्यां शतक्रतुः। अपश्यल्लोहितोदं च भगवान्वरुणालयम् ॥०३-२१३-२८॥
lohitaiz ca ghnair yuktāṃ pūrvāṃ sandhyāṃ śatakratuḥ। apaśyad lohitodaṃ ca bhagavān varuṇālayam॥03-213-28॥
[लोहितैः (lohitaḥ) - with red; च (ca) - and; घनैः (ghnaiḥ) - with clouds; युक्तां (yuktāṃ) - joined; पूर्वां (pūrvāṃ) - eastern; सन्ध्यां (sandhyām) - twilight; शतक्रतुः (śatakratuḥ) - Śatakratu (epithet of Indra); अपश्यत् (apaśyat) - saw; लोहितोदं (lohitudam) - red water; च (ca) - and; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the blessed; वरुणालयम् (varuṇālayam) - abode of Varuṇa;]

भृगुभिश्चाङ्गिरोभिश्च हुतं मन्त्रैः पृथग्विधैः। हव्यं गृहीत्वा वह्निं च प्रविशन्तं दिवाकरम् ॥०३-२१३-२९॥
bhṛgubhiś cāṅgirobhiś ca hutaṃ mantraiḥ pṛthag-vidhaiḥ। havyaṃ gṛhītvā vahniṃ ca praviśantaṃ divākaram॥03-213-29॥

(By the Bhṛgus and the Aṅgiras, offered by mantras of various kinds—having taken the offering and the fire, entering the Sun.)
The Bhṛgus and the Aṅgiras, having performed the offerings with various mantras, take the oblations and fire and enter into the Sun. (03-213-29)
पर्व चैव चतुर्विंशं तदा सूर्यमुपस्थितम्। तथा धर्मगतं रौद्रं सोमं सूर्यगतं च तम् ॥०३-२१३-३०॥
parva caiva caturviṃśaṃ tadā sūryamupasthitam। tathā dharmagataṃ raudraṃ somaṃ sūryagataṃ ca tam ॥03-213-30॥
[पर्व (parva) - junction; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; चतुर्विंशं (caturviṃśam) - twenty-fourth; तदा (tadā) - then; सूर्यमुपस्थितम् (sūryam upasthitam) - the sun (time) had arrived; तथा (tathā) - so; धर्मगतं (dharmagataṃ) - in the manner of righteousness; रौद्रं (raudram) - in the manner of Rudra; सोमं (somaṃ) - (in the manner of) Soma; सूर्यगतं (sūryagataṃ) - in the manner of the Sun; च (ca) - and; तम् (tam) - him;]
(Junction and indeed the twenty-fourth then the sun had arrived. So righteousness manner, Rudra manner, Soma manner, and Sun manner him.)
And at the twenty-fourth junction, then the sun had arrived. Also, in the manner of dharma, in the manner of Rudra, Soma, and in the manner of the Sun, him. (03-213-30)
समालोक्यैकतामेव शशिनो भास्करस्य च। समवायं तु तं रौद्रं दृष्ट्वा शक्रो व्यचिन्तयत् ॥०३-२१३-३१॥
samālokyaikatāmeva śaśino bhāskarasya ca। samavāyaṃ tu taṃ raudraṃ dṛṣṭvā śakro vyacintayat ॥03-213-31॥
[समालोक्य (samālokya) - having observed; एकताम् (ekatām) - unity; एव (eva) - indeed; शशिनः (śaśinaḥ) - of the Moon; भास्करस्य (bhāskarasya) - of the Sun; च (ca) - and; समवायम् (samavāyam) - combination; तु (tu) - but; तम् (tam) - that; रौद्रं (raudram) - terrible; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; शक्रः (śakraḥ) - Śakra (Indra); व्यचिन्तयत् (vyacintayat) - pondered;]
(Having observed indeed the unity of the Moon and of the Sun, but having seen that terrible combination, Śakra pondered.)
Śakra (Indra), having seen the dreadful combination—the unity of the Moon and Sun—reflected upon it. (03-213-31)
एष रौद्रश्च सङ्घातो महान्युक्तश्च तेजसा। सोमस्य वह्निसूर्याभ्यामद्भुतोऽयं समागमः ॥ जनयेद्यं सुतं सोमः सोऽस्या देव्याः पतिर्भवेत् ॥०३-२१३-३२॥
eṣa raudraś ca saṅghāto mahān yuktaś ca tejasā. somasya vahnisūryābhyām adbhuto'yaṃ samāgamaḥ ॥ janayed yaṃ sutaṃ somaḥ so'syā devyāḥ patir bhavet ॥03-213-32॥

(This fierce and great union, endowed with brilliance, of Soma and by Agni and Sūrya, this wonderful union; whomsoever son Soma would generate, he should become the husband of this goddess.)
This fierce and great union, endowed with brilliance, the wonderful coming together of Soma and Agni and Sūrya—whichever son Soma begets, he shall become the husband of this goddess. (03-213-32)
अग्निश्चैतैर्गुणैर्युक्तः सर्वैरग्निश्च देवता। एष चेज्जनयेद्गर्भं सोऽस्या देव्याः पतिर्भवेत् ॥०३-२१३-३३॥

(Agni and by these qualities endowed, by all Agni also divinity; he if generates offspring, he of her, of the goddess, husband would be.)
Agni, endowed with all these qualities, is indeed a divinity; if he generates offspring, he would become the husband of this goddess. (03-213-33)
एवं सञ्चिन्त्य भगवान्ब्रह्मलोकं तदा गतः। गृहीत्वा देवसेनां तामवन्दत्स पितामहम् ॥ उवाच चास्या देव्यास्त्वं साधु शूरं पतिं दिश ॥०३-२१३-३४॥
evaṃ sañcintya bhagavān brahmalokaṃ tadā gataḥ। gṛhītvā devasenāṃ tām avandat sa pitāmaham ॥ uvāca cāsyā devyās tvaṃ sādhu śūraṃ patiṃ diśa ॥03-213-34॥

(Thus, having reflected, the blessed one then went to Brahma's world. Having taken Devasena, he reverenced the Grandfather. And he said to her, "You give a worthy, valiant husband to this goddess." (03-213-34))
Having reflected in this way, the blessed one went to Brahma's world at that time. Taking Devasena with him, he reverently saluted the Grandfather (Brahma). And he said, "To this goddess, you should provide a worthy and valiant husband." (03-213-34)

yathaitac cintitaṃ kāryaṃ tvayā dānavasūdana। tathā sa bhavitā garbho balavān uruvikramaḥ ॥03-213-35॥
[यथा (yathā) - just as; in the manner that; एतत् (etat) - this; चिन्तितम् (cintitam) - having been considered; thought; कार्यं (kāryam) - task; action; deed; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; दानवसूदन (dānavasūdana) - O slayer of Dānavas; तथा (tathā) - so; in the same way; सः (saḥ) - he; भविता (bhavitā) - will be; will become; गर्भः (garbhaḥ) - embryo; offspring; बलवान् (balavān) - strong; उरुविक्रमः (uruvikramaḥ) - of mighty prowess;]
(Just as this action has been considered by you, O slayer of Dānavas, so he will become the offspring, strong and of mighty prowess.)
O slayer of Dānavas, just as you have conceived this plan, so the offspring will be mighty, strong, and of vast power. (03-213-35)
स भविष्यति सेनानीस्त्वया सह शतक्रतो। अस्या देव्याः पतिश्चैव स भविष्यति वीर्यवान् ॥०३-२१३-३६॥
sa bhaviṣyati senānīs tvayā saha śatakrato। asyā devyāḥ patiś caiva sa bhaviṣyati vīryavān ॥03-213-36॥
[स (sa) - he; भविष्यति (bhaviṣyati) - will become; सेनानीः (senānīḥ) - commander; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; सह (saha) - with; शतक्रतो (śatakrato) - O Śatakratu (epithet of Indra); अस्या (asyā) - of this; देव्याः (devyāḥ) - goddess; पतिः (patiḥ) - husband; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; स (sa) - he; भविष्यति (bhaviṣyati) - will be; वीर्यवान् (vīryavān) - powerful;]
(He will become commander with you, O Śatakratu; of this goddess he will indeed be (her) husband, he will be powerful.)

etat-śrutvā namas-tasmai kṛtvā asau saha kanyayā। tatra abhyagacchat devendraḥ yatra devaṛṣayaḥ abhavan॥ vasiṣṭha-pramukhā mukhyā viprendraḥ sumahā-vratāḥ॥03-213-37॥

(Having heard this, having paid obeisance to him, he, together with the maiden, there Indra approached where the divine sages were, headed by Vasiṣṭha, chief, best of Brāhmaṇas, of very great vows.)
Hearing this, he offered obeisance to him; then, together with the maiden, Indra went there where the divine sages were present—Vasiṣṭha and other foremost Brāhmaṇas, great in their vows. (03-213-37)
भागार्थं तपसोपात्तं तेषां सोमं तथाध्वरे। पिपासवो ययुर्देवाः शतक्रतुपुरोगमाः ॥०३-२१३-३८॥
bhāgārthaṃ tapasopāttaṃ teṣāṃ somaṃ tathādhvare। pipāsavo yayur devāḥ śatakratupurogamāḥ ॥03-213-38॥

(For the sake of share, by austerity acquired, of them, Soma, also, in the sacrifice, thirsty ones, went, the gods, headed by Shatakratu.)
The gods, headed by Shatakratu (Indra), who were thirsty, went to the Soma acquired by their austerity in the sacrifice for their share. (03-213-38)
इष्टिं कृत्वा यथान्यायं सुसमिद्धे हुताशने। जुहुवुस्ते महात्मानो हव्यं सर्वदिवौकसाम् ॥०३-२१३-३९॥
iṣṭiṁ kṛtvā yathā-nyāyaṁ susamiddhe hutāśane। juhuvus te mahātmāno havyaṁ sarva-divaukasām ॥03-213-39॥
[इष्टिं (iṣṭim) - sacrifice; कृत्वा (kṛtvā) - having performed; यथान्यायं (yathā-nyāyam) - according to rule; सुसमिद्धे (susamiddhe) - well-kindled; हुताशने (hutāśane) - in the fire; जुहुवुस् (juhuvus) - they offered; ते (te) - they; महात्मानः (mahātmānaḥ) - great-souled ones; हव्यम् (havyam) - oblations; सर्वदिवौकसाम् (sarva-divaukasām) - for all the dwellers of heaven;]
(Having performed the sacrifice according to rule, in the well-kindled fire they, the great-souled ones, offered the oblations for all the dwellers of heaven.)
The great-souled ones, having performed the sacrifice as prescribed, offered oblations in the well-kindled fire for all the dwellers of heaven. (03-213-39)
समाहूतो हुतवहः सोऽद्भुतः सूर्यमण्डलात्। विनिःसृत्याययौ वह्निर्वाग्यतो विधिवत्प्रभुः ॥ आगम्याहवनीयं वै तैर्द्विजैर्मन्त्रतो हुतम् ॥०३-२१३-४०॥
samāhūto hutavahaḥ so'dbhutaḥ sūryamaṇḍalāt। viniḥsṛtyāyayau vahnirvāgyato vidhivatprabhuḥ ॥ āgamyāhavanīyaṃ vai tairdvijairmantrato hutam ॥03-213-40॥
[समाहूतः (samāhūtaḥ) - called together; summoned; हुतवहः (hutavahaḥ) - fire; carrier of oblations; सः (saḥ) - he; अद्भुतः (adbhutaḥ) - wonderful; astonishing; सूर्यमण्डलात् (sūryamaṇḍalāt) - from the solar orb; from the solar disc; विनिःसृत्य (viniḥsṛtya) - having come forth; having emerged; आययौ (āyayau) - came; वह्निः (vahniḥ) - fire; वाग्यतः (vāgyataḥ) - invoked by speech; विधिवत् (vidhivat) - according to rule; duly; प्रभुः (prabhuḥ) - the lord; master; आगम्य (āgamya) - having approached; having arrived; आहवनीयम् (āhavanīyam) - ahavaniya (sacrificial fire); वै (vai) - indeed; truly; तैः (taiḥ) - by them; द्विजैः (dvijaiḥ) - by the twice-born; by the Brahmans; मन्त्रतः (mantrataḥ) - with mantras; हुतम् (hutam) - offering; oblation;]
(Summoned fire, he wonderful from the solar orb, having emerged came fire, invoked by speech, duly, the lord. Having arrived at the ahavaniya (sacrificial fire), indeed, by them, by the twice-born, with mantras, the oblation.)
Summoned, the wonderful Fire emerged from the solar disc; the lordly Fire, invoked by speech and duly, came forth. Having arrived at the ahavaniya altar, he was offered oblations with mantras by those Brahmins. (03-213-40)
स तत्र विविधं हव्यं प्रतिगृह्य हुताशनः। ऋषिभ्यो भरतश्रेष्ठ प्रायच्छत दिवौकसाम् ॥०३-२१३-४१॥
sa tatra vividhaṃ havyaṃ pratigṛhya hutāśanaḥ। ṛṣibhyo bharataśreṣṭha prāyacchata divaukasām ॥03-213-41॥
[स (sa) - he; तत्र (tatra) - there; विविधं (vividhām) - various; हव्यं (havyaṃ) - oblations; प्रतिगृह्य (pratigṛhya) - having accepted; हुताशनः (hutāśanaḥ) - Agni (the fire); ऋषिभ्यः (ṛṣibhyaḥ) - to the sages; भरतश्रेष्ठ (bharataśreṣṭha) - O best of the Bharatas; प्रायच्छत् (prāyacchat) - offered; दिवौकसाम् (divaukasām) - of the dwellers in heaven (gods);]
(He there various oblations having accepted Agni to the sages O best of the Bharatas offered of the dwellers in heaven.)
Having received the various oblations there, Agni (the fire), O best of the Bharatas, offered them to the gods on behalf of the sages. (03-213-41)
निष्क्रामंश्चाप्यपश्यत्स पत्नीस्तेषां महात्मनाम्। स्वेष्वाश्रमेषूपविष्टाः स्नायन्तीश्च यथासुखम् ॥०३-२१३-४२॥
niṣkrāmaṃścāpyapaśyatsa patnīsteṣāṃ mahātmanām। sveṣvāśrameṣūpaviṣṭāḥ snāyantīśca yathāsukham ॥03-213-42॥
[निष्क्रामन् (niṣkrāman) - going forth; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; अपश्यत् (apaśyat) - he saw; सः (saḥ) - he; पत्नीः (patnīḥ) - wives; तेषाम् (teṣām) - of them; महात्मनाम् (mahātmanām) - of the great-souled; स्वेषु (sveṣu) - in their own; आश्रमेषु (āśrameṣu) - hermitages; उपविष्टाः (upaviṣṭāḥ) - sitting; स्नायन्तीः (snāyantīḥ) - bathing; च (ca) - and; यथा (yathā) - as; सुखम् (sukham) - comfort;]
(He, going forth, and also saw the wives of those great-souled men, sitting in their own hermitages and bathing as (per) comfort.)
Going out, he also saw the wives of those great-souled men, seated in their own hermitages and bathing at their ease. (03-213-42)
रुक्मवेदिनिभास्तास्तु चन्द्रलेखा इवामलाः। हुताशनार्चिप्रतिमाः सर्वास्तारा इवाद्भुताः ॥०३-२१३-४३॥
rukmavedinibhāstāstu candralekhā ivāmalāḥ। hutāśanārcipratimāḥ sarvāstāra ivādbhutāḥ ॥03-213-43॥
[रुक्मवेदिनिभाः (rukmavedinibhāḥ) - having the appearance of a golden altar; ताः (tāḥ) - they; तु (tu) - but; चन्द्रलेखाः (candralekhāḥ) - moon beams; इव (iva) - like; अमलाः (amalāḥ) - spotless; हुताशनार्चिप्रतिमाः (hutāśanārcipratimāḥ) - resembling the flames of the sacred fire; सर्वाः (sarvāḥ) - all; ताराः (tārāḥ) - stars; इव (iva) - like; अद्भुताः (adbhutāḥ) - wonderful;]
(They indeed, having the appearance of a golden altar, spotless like moonbeams, resembling the flames of the sacred fire, all like stars, wonderful.)
They shone with the radiance of a golden altar, immaculate like moonbeams, resembling the flames of the sacred fire, and were all as wonderful as stars. (03-213-43)
स तद्गतेन मनसा बभूव क्षुभितेन्द्रियः। पत्नीर्दृष्ट्वा द्विजेन्द्राणां वह्निः कामवशं ययौ ॥०३-२१३-४४॥
sa tad-gatena manasā babhūva kṣubhitendriyaḥ। patnīḥ dṛṣṭvā dvijendrāṇāṃ vahniḥ kāmavaśaṃ yayau॥03-213-44॥
[स (sa) - he; तद्गतेन (tad-gatena) - having gone to that; मनसा (manasā) - with mind; बभूव (babhūva) - became; क्षुभितेन्द्रियः (kṣubhitendriyaḥ) - with agitated senses; पत्नीः (patnīḥ) - wives; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; द्विजेन्द्राणां (dvijendrāṇām) - of the best of twice-born; वह्निः (vahniḥ) - Agni (the Fire god); कामवशं (kāmavaśam) - under the sway of desire; ययौ (yayau) - went;]
(He, with his mind gone to that, became one with agitated senses. Having seen the wives of the best of the twice-born, Agni went under the sway of desire.)
With his mind absorbed there, he became agitated in his senses. Seeing the wives of the foremost twice-born, Agni fell under the sway of desire. (03-213-44)
स भूयश्चिन्तयामास न न्याय्यं क्षुभितोऽस्मि यत्। साध्वीः पत्नीर्द्विजेन्द्राणामकामाः कामयाम्यहम् ॥०३-२१३-४५॥
sa bhūyaś cintayāmāsa na nyāyyaṁ kṣubhito'smi yat. sādhvīḥ patnīr dvijendrāṇām akāmāḥ kāmayāmy aham ॥03-213-45॥
[स (sa) - he; भूयः (bhūyaḥ) - again; चिन्तयामास (cintayāmāsa) - thought; न (na) - not; न्याय्यम् (nyāyyaṁ) - rightful; क्षुभितः (kṣubhitaḥ) - disturbed; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; यत् (yat) - because; साध्वीः (sādhvīḥ) - virtuous; पत्नीः (patnīḥ) - wives; द्विजेन्द्राणाम् (dvijendrāṇām) - of the best of twice-born (Brahmins); अकामाः (akāmāḥ) - not desiring; कामयामि (kāmayāmi) - I desire; अहम् (aham) - I;]
(He again thought: not rightful, I am disturbed because virtuous wives of the best of twice-born, not desiring, I desire, I.)
He thought again, "It is not right; I am disturbed because I desire the virtuous wives of the best of the twice-born, though they do not desire me." (03-213-45)
नैताः शक्या मया द्रष्टुं स्प्रष्टुं वाप्यनिमित्ततः। गार्हपत्यं समाविश्य तस्मात्पश्याम्यभीक्ष्णशः ॥०३-२१३-४६॥
naitāḥ śakyā mayā draṣṭuṃ spraṣṭuṃ vāpyanimittataḥ। gārhapatyaṃ samāviśya tasmāt paśyāmyabhīkṣṇaśaḥ ॥03-213-46॥

(Not these possible by me to see, to touch or even without cause. After entering the gārhapatya sacred fire, therefore I see repeatedly.)
These are not possible for me to see or to touch even without cause. Therefore, after entering the gārhapatya sacred fire, I see (them) again and again. (03-213-46)
संस्पृशन्निव सर्वास्ताः शिखाभिः काञ्चनप्रभाः। पश्यमानश्च मुमुदे गार्हपत्यं समाश्रितः ॥०३-२१३-४७॥
saṁspṛśann iva sarvāḥ tāḥ śikhābhiḥ kāñcanaprabhāḥ। paśyamānaś ca mumude gārhapatyaṁ samāśritaḥ॥03-213-47॥
[संस्पृशन् (saṁspṛśan) - touching; (as if); इव (iva) - as if; सर्वाः (sarvāḥ) - all (of them, f.); ताः (tāḥ) - those (f.); शिखाभिः (śikhābhiḥ) - with flames; काञ्चनप्रभाः (kāñcanaprabhāḥ) - having golden light; पश्यमानः (paśyamānaḥ) - (he) seeing; च (ca) - and; मुमुदे (mumude) - rejoiced; गार्हपत्यं (gārhapatyaṁ) - the gārhapatya (sacrificial fire); समाश्रितः (samāśritaḥ) - approaching, having sought refuge in;]
(Touching as if all those with flames having golden light, and seeing, (he) rejoiced, having sought refuge in the gārhapatya (sacrificial fire).)
As if touching all those (sacrificial fires) with flames of golden radiance, and seeing (them), he rejoiced, having approached the gārhapatya fire. (03-213-47)
निरुष्य तत्र सुचिरमेवं वह्निर्वशं गतः। मनस्तासु विनिक्षिप्य कामयानो वराङ्गनाः ॥०३-२१३-४८॥
niruṣya tatra suciram evaṃ vahnir vaśaṃ gataḥ। manas tāsu vinikṣipya kāmayānaḥ varāṅganāḥ ॥03-213-48॥
[निरुष्य (niruṣya) - having heard; (from ni-√śru, listen); तत्र (tatra) - there; सुचिरम् (suciram) - for a long time; एवम् (evam) - thus; वह्निः (vahniḥ) - the fire; वशं (vaśam) - control; power; गतः (gataḥ) - went; attained; मनः (manaḥ) - mind; तासु (tāsu) - in those (women); विनिक्षिप्य (vinikṣipya) - having placed; having fixed; कामयानः (kāmayānaḥ) - desiring; longing; वराङ्गनाः (varāṅganāḥ) - those beautiful women;]
(Having heard thus there for a long time, the fire went under control. Having placed (his) mind in those beautiful women, desiring.)
After listening there for a long time, the fire came under control. Desiring, he fixed his mind on those beautiful women. (03-213-48)
कामसन्तप्तहृदयो देहत्यागे सुनिश्चितः। अलाभे ब्राह्मणस्त्रीणामग्निर्वनमुपागतः ॥०३-२१३-४९॥
kāmasantaptahṛdayo dehatyāge suniścitaḥ. alābhe brāhmaṇastrīṇām agnir vanam upāgataḥ ॥03-213-49॥
[कामसन्तप्तहृदयः (kāmasantaptahṛdayaḥ) - with a heart tormented by desire; देहत्यागे (dehatyāge) - in abandonment of the body; सुनिश्चितः (suniścitaḥ) - firmly resolved; अलाभे (alābhe) - in the lack; ब्राह्मणस्त्रीणाम् (brāhmaṇastrīṇām) - of Brāhmaṇa women; अग्निः (agniḥ) - Agni; वनम् (vanam) - forest; उपागतः (upāgataḥ) - has gone;]
(With a heart tormented by desire, firmly resolved upon abandoning the body, in the lack of Brāhmaṇa women, Agni has gone to the forest.)
Tormented by desire and firmly determined to give up his body, Agni, finding no Brāhmaṇa women, went into the forest. (03-213-49)
स्वाहा तं दक्षदुहिता प्रथमं कामयत्तदा। सा तस्य छिद्रमन्वैच्छच्चिरात्प्रभृति भामिनी ॥ अप्रमत्तस्य देवस्य न चापश्यदनिन्दिता ॥०३-२१३-५०॥
svāhā taṁ dakṣaduhitā prathamaṁ kāmayattadā। sā tasya chidramanvaicchaccirātprabhṛti bhāminī॥ apramattasya devasya na cāpaśyadaninditā॥03-213-50॥
[स्वाहा (svāhā) - Svāhā (proper noun); तं (taṁ) - him; दक्षदुहिता (dakṣaduhitā) - Dakṣa's daughter; प्रथमं (prathamaṁ) - at first; कामयत् (kāmayat) - desired; तदा (tadā) - then; सा (sā) - she; तस्य (tasya) - his; छिद्रम् (chidram) - weakness; अन्वैच्छत् (anvaicchat) - sought; चिरात्-प्रभृति (cirāt-prabhṛti) - since a long time; भामिनी (bhāminī) - the shining (woman); अप्रमत्तस्य (apramattasya) - of the vigilant; देवस्य (devasya) - of the god; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; अपश्यत् (apaśyat) - saw; अनिन्दिता (aninditā) - the blameless (woman);]
(Svāhā then desired him, Dakṣa's daughter, at first. That shining (woman) sought his weakness since a long time. Of the vigilant god, the blameless (woman) did not see (any). (03-213-50))

(She, having truly known him who, like fire, but approached the forest, truly afflicted by desire, the radiant lady began to think.)
The radiant lady, knowing him to be truly afflicted by desire and having gone into the forest like fire, began to ponder upon him. (03-213-51)
अहं सप्तर्षिपत्नीनां कृत्वा रूपाणि पावकम्। कामयिष्यामि कामार्तं तासां रूपेण मोहितम् ॥ एवं कृते प्रीतिरस्य कामावाप्तिश्च मे भवेत् ॥०३-२१३-५२॥
ahaṃ saptarṣipatnīnām kṛtvā rūpāṇi pāvakam। kāmayiṣyāmi kāmārtaṃ tāsāṃ rūpeṇa mohitam॥ evaṃ kṛte prītirasya kāmāvāptiśca me bhavet॥03-213-52॥

(I, having assumed the forms of the wives of the seven sages, Agni, will desire the one afflicted by desire, deluded by their form. Thus, when this is done, affection of him and attainment of desire for me may be.)
I will assume the forms of the wives of the seven sages, and as Agni, I will desire the one troubled by desire and deluded by their beauty. In this way, when this is done, his affection and my attainment of the desired aim may occur. (03-213-52)
